So here's a portrait of yoga in the 21st Century: this ancient discipline, created thousands of years ago to enhance the meditative experience (the asanas or poses commonly used in hatha yoga were in fact designed to enable meditators to sit quietly, calmly and comfortably for hours on end), is now "a total body blast," with users urged to "get hard core" and "feel the groove," all so "your torso will look buff." At least that's how Ellen Barrett, the relentlessly sunny instructor featured in Crunch Yoga's Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend, sees it. But while that approach may sound pretty frightening to traditionalists, this can't in fairness be viewed as a typical yoga video; nor does Barrett, who commingles power yoga moves and what she describes as "core-conditioning power pilates," make any claims that it is. Many of the poses--including Warrior II, extended right angle, cobra, locust, and others--will certainly be familiar to yogis. But instead of holding these poses for several breaths, as is common, Barrett takes a more aerobic approach, "pulsing" in and out of positions as if this were a calisthenics class; while that doesn't do much to promote stretching, it does generate a lot of heat and calorie burning. Same goes for the pilates portions, which involve a lot of leg lifts, abdominal work, and other mat-based exercises. One might wish that the instruction were more detailed when it comes to proper breathing, alignment, and so on; it's also a bit paradoxical that while the "Crunch philosophy" states that their fitness programs are designed for "people from all walks of life regardless of shape, size, or ability," the only folks we see onscreen are uniformly attractive, bare-midriffed young women in amazing shape. But hey, whatever. Call it what you will, this is a fast-moving, reasonably challenging program that will likely find favor with many. --Sam Graham

great for beginners!!.......2007-09-17
This video is great for beginners/intermediates. You get a great core workout and introduces you to some basic moves. The direction and cues she gives are simple and you can follow her without getting lost or frustrated. If you are looking for something extremely challenging, I would pass on this one. I truly enjoy this workout and do it 3-4 times per week and I have no yoga or pilates experience prior to this.
Good DVD.......2007-09-11
This was fun and pretty easy to follow. Went by fast (which is GOOD!).
Great start for me.......2007-09-08
I love this workout it is challenging and I am looking forward to her other workout
My new favorite workout.......2007-09-02
No other exercise program (either classes at the Gym or DVDs) has defined my muscles faster and easier than this. It is so concise and easy to do, its easy to get into a routine of doing this DVD 3-4 times per week (plus, its short) and I noticed a difference after about 3 weeks. There is little yoga and little stretching, so I do a yoga routine on alternate days. I highly recommend this for beginners, those who have gotten out of shape, or anyone who wants to tone up fast. My favorite exercise DVD by FAR, and I have had many.
Good workout!.......2007-08-07
Much faster than I thought it was going to be. I'm pretty out of shape, so it's harder for me than it might be for an intermediate or advanced person. But it goes really fast, and I feel like I really worked out!

"Remember what Joseph Pilates said," instructor Ana Caban says. "'You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.'" Pilates has become very popular and for good reason. By working the core muscles (the abdominal and back muscles in the center of your body) you improve strength and posture and develop a lean, long line.
Certified Pilates instructor Ana Caban is a splendid teacher. First she demonstrates alignment and technique for 10 minutes, explaining the cue words you will hear and how to do the basics, emphasizing how to use the core muscles to strengthen the abdominals and back throughout the workout. Then she introduces a challenging 20-minute series of Pilates moves, instructing clearly, demonstrating beautifully, and continuing to advise you about technique, breathing, and form.
Even though this is a beginning Pilates workout, Pilates is never easy, so these moves will feel extremely difficult if you're new to this kind of exercise. For example, you learn to hold your abs tight whatever move you're doing, and you move only the muscles you're working at the moment, using your stabilizing muscles to hold the rest of the body still (much harder than it sounds!). Another participant demonstrates modifications throughout in case Caban's moves are too difficult or your muscles fatigue. If you've been wanting to explore Pilates and you're willing to put in the effort and concentration, this video gets our top rating. --Joan Price
Description
Pilates is a full-body conditioning exercise program that uses a series of machines and exercises. It works the entire body, both the right and left sides, in unison. It focuses primarily on what Joseph Pilates called the "powerhouse," the group of muscles that begins two inches above and below your navel, then wraps completely around your front and back--kind of like a corset. It also includes your buttocks.
The DVD features the Pilates Beginning Mat Workout, plus a bonus workout and interview with instructor Ana Caban.
Customer Reviews:
Good workout, horrible production quality.......2007-08-15
The video has a good workout with alternatives for beginners and slightly more advanced users for each exercise, but the intentional unsteady cam and cuts to strange angles with awful lighting/color effects makes it a less than stellar total package.
Please don't buy this DVD.......2007-08-09
I have never been so disappointed with a product. I wish they has something like negative stars for rating. Believe me all the 5 star reviews here are misleading especially if you are a beginner. There are many problems with this Pilates DVD and most importantly the instructor is too busy trying to impress you with her good looks that she forgets to orient you to the most important fundamentals before you start the exercise. I did two sessions and I had terrible muscle pulls in my abdomen (I am in my mid-20s and exercise regularly). At that time however, I thought something was wrong with me and I did not know how to do Pilates. I gave up trying to do it.
Then after a year,I tried the Pilates for dummies and used Alan Herdman's Pilates directory...and it made a huge difference. I did not have any muscle pulls. Only then I understood what a good breathing technique and learning to engage your abdominal muscles properly means. It was only then that I realized how terrible this DVD was. I watched it last night just to see what I thought about it after a year...and I was aghast. I realized that the instructor herself did not understand the fundamentals/or did not bother to communicate it properly. People like me were actually buying this product to learn from it. I have never written a review before in my life but I thought this time I should warn people about this product before they buy it. Apart from this the production of the DVD is terrible. Please don't buy this DVD.There are much better Pilates beginner's stuff out there, this is not even comparable to any of those.
Good for beginners.......2007-08-07
I like how energetic she is and how she had the other person show the easier variation for each exercise. I especially like the bonus 12 minute energy workout - great of you don't have much time but just want to get moving.
Excellent for Beginners.......2007-07-13
I found this workout to be an excellent introduction to pilates. The instructor moves through each exercise at a good pace, explaining the proper technique for each pose as well as a modified version of each pose.
great video but needs more detail.......2007-07-12
the video is great and the intructor is entertaining. However, I wish they was a section on the dvd that explained the exercises very slowly and in more detail. I have a book that I use to supplement the video and I have been very happy with the combination.

Great for getting Flexable.......2007-07-16
I really enjoy this workout a lot. I am very stiff and my range of movement is not great so I feel this will really help me. It is not something that gets your heart going fast or makes you sweat. It does some muscle toning, especially your stomach. But it is not something I would do as a complete weight loss tool but rather as a supplement. I think it is a great way to warm up for the heart-pumping workouts. The only problem I have is I find I am waiting a while for the next workout to begin as Winsor explains each workout. That's good to have an introduction but after you get to know the moves there's no need for it and you're just waiting. The kit also included a DVD that goes over each move in great detail so there really isn't a need to do it again.
Over all, I really love it and do it everyday! I really notice a difference and think I will only get better.
Good intro to pilates.......2007-02-25
This DVD set is a good introduction to pilates. The basic workout is 20 minutes, and the advanced is around an hour. I used this dvd combo, in addition to cardio and toned up very well in a few months.
Sometimes I did find Mari Windsor a little annoying and cheesy, but the substance of the video is worthwhile. Also, I don't recommend this for intermediate or advanced pilates - users of this skill level may not find even the advanced dvd challenging.
While I did like this set, I might recommend Ana Cabon's basic mat workout as a better buy for the price.
Perfect suppliment to your mat class........2007-02-15
I love this set so much I am buying a few more of her DVD's. I started a little over a month ago at a studio once a week for a group mat class and use the 20-min and 57-min DVD at home on the remaining alternating days during the rest of the week. Although, Mari does a good job at demonstrating the exercises, since I am new I want to be extra sure I am using the proper form and will remain in a class for the additional coaching. I find Winsor Pilates compliments my class perfectly. I have dropped 10 pounds since starting and can really feel the difference.
Good for beginners. Too slow for intermediate or advance........2006-09-23
I would rate this 4-5 stars FOR BEGINNERS, but 2 stars for more advanced users. What's commendable about this video is that she really takes time to EXPLAIN HOW TO PROPERLY DO EACH MOVE, and she gives good advice to how to modify the move for people who are not as strong or have bad backs. It really makes a beginner not feel lost in terms of how to coordinate the new motions. However, for anyone who is beyond the absolute beginner level, this tape is VERY BORING FOR MORE ADVANCED USERS because more than half workout time is spent listening to her talk about how to do each move, rather than just doing the moves; even after the 1-hour workout I felt like I only did 15minutes of exercise, so it was a waste of my time. (For intermediate level users I would recommend other videos, such as Ana Caban's video which goes through more moves at a not-rushed paced but without the dead time in between each move.)
Awesome workout collection!.......2006-06-26
Maren Winsor has me hooked on pilates!
I absolutely love these DVDs. I started off with the basics to learn the moves, and quickly progressed to the 20 minute, coupled with other excersises. Once I started doing the accelerated body sculpting, I haven't done anything else!
I am a pretty petite person, but with trouble spots. After one month, I lost 6 pounds and saw some awesome definition in my buns, arms and stomach. My stomach is so flat and lean, I have never seen such great definition. All from one video! Best yet, my husband has noticed my new body.
This is an awesome workout that I don't get tired of, it has a combination of many pilates mat excersises that really challenge your "core". Since then, I have tried other pilates videos, and by far, this one is my favorite.

Denise Austin's Mat Workout presents two 20-minute workouts emphasizing flexibility, core strength, balance, and relaxation. Workout 1 is Pilates-based, focusing on the core muscles of the abdominals and back. Pilates-based workouts are heavily founded on technique and awareness, so Austin takes time to explain and demonstrate neutral pelvis, shoulder stability, breathing technique, and the muscles you'll be working. Then she takes you through a challenging Pilates-based workout focusing on trunk stability, which translates to a killer ab workout, offering modifications for beginners.
Workout 2 includes both Pilates-based exercises and yoga postures, starting with the Sun Salutation and progressing to a variety of yoga poses that emphasize balance and flexibility and Pilates-based exercises that focus on core stability and strength.
This is a softer Denise--quiet voice, subdued pace, tranquil feeling--a nice change from the frenetic pace and unrelenting chatter of many of Austin's videos. You'll be surprised by how demanding this workout is, because of the core stability and balance challenges. --Joan Price
Customer Reviews:
great overall, supportive workout.......2007-06-14
I have three Pilates exercise DVDs, but I return to this one over and over. It is a wonderful, all-over workout completed in 20 minutes. It is also very relaxing with soothing music and background scenes. Denise projects a very supportive attitude, which is nice any time, but especially when learning something new. There are two workouts on the disc/tape. One is strictly Pilates and the other is a mix of yoga and Pilates. Both strech and tone the whole body. You should watch the entire sequence through before doing the exercises because sometimes she forgets to signal that you need to switch sides and you need to know the basics of what she is doing before doing it. I have Denise Austin's Hit The Spot Pilates workout also, but, although it too is a great workout, I find the music and tone to be too drving and I have to do three 10 minute workouts on that DVD to approximate the overall benefits of this workout.
Great Workout!!.......2007-05-14
I love this workout. I love the background and Denise is awesome as usual! I like that it has two short--but effective workouts, to fit into my busy schedule!!
Simple Yoga!!!.......2007-02-14
Its an alright video. I prefer her yoga plus pilates and weights video that gives you more of a full body work out. But it is easy for beginners.
One of the best Pilates DVD.......2007-01-13
The first Pilates workout that I did was the "Method" which was ok but long. Next, I tried Denise's "Mat Workout Based on the Work of J.H. Pilates" Loved it. It was a great challenge and within a few weeks, I could tell a difference in the way I moved and my cloths were loser. Then the group I was working out with wanted something different, we tried "Pilates for Dummies" and "Winsor Pilates" but we all keep coming back to, Denise's "Mat Workout Based on the Work of J.H. Pilates". Denise's workout is hard for beginners, but if you take it slow, you can soon begin to do the complete workout. I love the bonus workouts, Yoga Pilates, Hip and Buns. The Hip and Buns is just 10 minutes long and every effective.
relaxing & enjoyable!.......2006-12-20
Denise can always be a bit over the top, but she's very laid back in this video. This is a great intro to Pilates for the beginner & a great relaxing workout for the more advanced. If you are a beginner, you'll need to work in to some of the moves... but you'll find they come quicker than you thought. I've been using this video since I first started exercising after having my last of 4 children. I'm much more advanced now & still enjoy these routines in the evenings sometimes to work out the stress of the day... or when I'm sick or just feeling lazy. You really do feel taller and leaner when you finish these exercises.

Customer Reviews:
Just what I was looking for.......2007-07-08
I was very happy with my purchase because it was just the right level of work out for me. I like how it is broken up into segments since I usually get interrupted by a crying newborn and I can easily do the workout in parts.
The Best! I actually look forward to it........2007-06-03
I've never stuck with workout videos for more than a couple of weeks, but this one is great. I look forward to doing it. The dance steps aren't anything fancy, but that just makes you be able to concentrate on what you're doing rather than trying to keep up with complicated moves. When this video is over, I feel so great. And in just 2 months of using it, I've seen an improvement in my energy and flexibility. I wish I'd gotten her pregnancy video. The little bit of the video that your supposed to be able to do with your baby isn't really that great. My 4 mo old gets bored. But- over all, definitely a winner.
I liked it.......2007-03-21
I liked this workout video because it does a good job of easing the body back into exercise. Leisa is a fun and good instructor and I didn't get tired of working out to this even after working out to it 3 times a week for 4 weeks. It is too easy once your body is back into shape, but it was fabulous at the begining.
very very good, just what i needed.......2006-07-07
i loved Fitmama Prenatal, and this Postnatal dvd is just what i needed, something easy and fun and not over the top...leisa hart was sooooooo good in the prenatal dvd, and she is just as good in this, i love her delivery and execution of her moves, a very good dvd to have after the baby, get started now moms, it is sooo worth it, a great dvd!
LOVE IT!.......2006-05-26
i loved the fitmama prenatal dvd that my doctor recommended i try, and i love the postnatal...the moves are short, fun and effectively getting me back into shape..i don't much time, so i can split up this dvd and do what i can in the morning or during nap time, it has great streching and great toning, a little bit of everything, all that i need for now...a great dvd!

Great buy! .......2007-07-24
I highly recommend these DVDs for anyone who wants to get into pilates and yoga. Kristen McGee does a great job of explaining what she's doing during the exercise and breaking down the positions at the end. One suggestion: if you are a beginner, it would probably be a good idea to watch the position break down before doing the workout so you don't injure yourself.
I have taken yoga and pilates classes at my gym and some of the instructors were really bad (i.e. didn't clearly explain what they were doing, hardly ever came around to make sure you were in the correct position, went too fast...). At least with the DVDs you can go at your own pace (rewind, ffwd, pause), actually see the instructor (instead of having a bunch of people in your way), and most off all learn how to do the exercise properly to get the full effect!
I feel simply amazing, many thanks to Kristen McGee!
Go take a class.......2007-04-18
Ok,ok the video is clear and they have special sections on each disc that breaks down the poses. I tried this and it's ok, but really I felt I should have taken an introduction to yoga class first. Which eventually I did.
Great Workout DVD!.......2007-03-28
I love these dvds. The two "beginning ones"- Yoga and Pilates are great everyday workouts or something to throw into routine to mix it up every now and then. Each DVD has modified workouts for beginner, intermediate and advanced which I find very helpful. Kristen Mcgee also breaks down the excercises into easy to follow directions. Power Yoga and Pilates Mix are definately more difficult but beginners can pop them in when they desire a challenge. These DVD's are very good and I would highly reccommend them.
MTV Fitness Four Pack(Pilates Mix/Pilates/Yoga/Power Yoga).......2007-02-28
The MTV Fitness Pack is a great variety for your next exercise program. These videos can help you really focus on specific areas of your body. I swear by pilates when it comes time to fit into my summer clothes. By doing one or all of these videos the pounds just melt away in no time. These videos are easy to follow and you can be done in no time.
Great Work Out!.......2007-01-16
I gave these DVD's to my daughter for Christmas. She says that they are more than she expected. The DVD's have beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of exercise. And they are very easy to follow.

Great dvd!.......2007-05-13
I'm new to Pilates. This one has been rated advanced, but it is still easy to follow. I can't do the moves nearly as gracefully or for as long in all of them, but it strengthens my core like nothing else has. I love the way all the moves flow from one to another continuously.
Rael Pilates System 27 - Excellent .......2007-03-29
I love pilates and have struggled to find a suitable DVD which I can use to exercise at home. This DVD is, without a doubt, the best pilates DVD available. Rael is an outstanding instructor and is very knowledgeable. It is well presented. The people on the DVD do the movements beautifully and set a great example. The exercises flow from one into the other. The session is well structured and not disjointed (like other DVDs). It is challenging and I always feel good after using this DVD. I use this DVD everyday - I highly recommend it.
Magnificent workout!!.......2007-03-21
Great workout for intermediate/advanced trainees. Rael is an astounding instructor. The workout is complete and has an overall adequate pace and vitality. The warm-up and cool down parts are well balanced. The presentation of the title menu is excellent as well. Couldn't have asked more from it!! I am extremely happy with this DVD.
Rael Pilates: System 27.......2007-01-25
I'm a big fan of Rael. This is a good instructional video. It's not one to really work out to on a regular basis as the pace is slow for more advanced practioner. Rael gives a lot of good cues and insight into the movment. The instructor/models are amazing. Beautiful, graceful bodies. Nothing too difficult, good modifications.
The Best Pilates workout for toning & stetching.......2007-01-07
This disc comes with a 5 min interview with Rael, comes in 5.1 sound, the music is not annoying & the director & producers have won golden globes, emmys, etc. for other tv shows. The workout is 25 min long.
Rael Isacowitz has been doing Pilates for 25 years, is one of the few who can perform the entire repertoire & teaches other pilates teachers. He's one of the only people who can do the entire workout & has a masters in dance which shows in how he moves & speaks. He is very graceful when he moves, has a lot of charisma when he speaks & doesn't miss anything when showing how to do the movements. He sees the body as a dancer & is amazing in knowing how the body responds to small differences in movements such as which way the palm should face.
The set is simple orange with Rael guiding & speaking with an in shape female in gym halter top & pants doing the movements on a pilates table. Rael tells you how to move, what to watch out for all while keeping perfect pace of always telling you when to inhale & exhale in charming manner that's never annoying. He also demonstrates the more advanced way of doing each movement w/perfect precision & grace, even the roll ups. The pace is relaxed to emphasis body awareness.
Some of the movements are: breathing, pelvic curl/yoga bridge pose, lying spinal twist (knees tucked), chest lift (crunch), hundreds, roll up (laying to sitting), leg circles, rolling like a ball, single leg stretch, criss cross legs ab workout, double leg stretch, shoulder bridge, spine stretch (sitting), saw (touching each foot opposite hand), sitting spinal twist, corkscrew, side leg lifts (lying down), adductor squeeze, oblique arch, swan (yoga cobra/upward dog), single leg kick, double leg kick, cat/cow stretch, leg pull front, hip flexor stretch, back support (toning), single leg teaser, seal puppy & child's pose relaxation.
Only a few of the moves I felt were easy, but the more advanced way was plenty challenge enough for me.
If you want to learn pilates from a real master & get true body awareness to avoid spams & muscle injury, get this dvd.
You can see trailers for his system 17 & 27 at collagevideo com & get more info at raelilates com

Customer Reviews:
I love this DVD.......2007-07-12
I have always had an interest in but found exercise hard to stick with due to time constraints, etc. so I would go from running everyday to not running for months, etc. After the birth of my first child, I was looking for a convenient form of exercise that I could do at home and that would help me to tone my stomach muscles. I practiced with Louise Solomon's Yogalates for awhile; she does a great job of introducing proper form for yoga positions, but after a year or so of continuous practice, I was very bored with her tapes....then I found this one. At first, I found it a little confusing, but within a couple tries, I was able to do the whole tape, and it was fun, relaxing, and just challenging enough. I loved this DVD. I CERTAINLY got my money's worth, since I probably used it close to 200 times.....and I was very sad when I felt like I was no longer getting enough exercise from this tape, since it is a smooth and relaxing workout. I agree with a previous reviewer who said that if you stick with this DVD, you will probably find it motivating enough to continue to Level 3.....And though the 3rd one is significantly more challenging but also a great buy, it is exciting to be able to think of yourself as an "advanced practitioner." If you have some familiarity with yoga and are looking for something a little more "workout-like" I don't think you'll regret purchasing this. I still plan to use this one if I am unable to do the 3rd one due to an injury, etc. It really is a fun DVD!!!!
Good but Mellow.......2007-06-22
I like this workout very much, very relaxing. It tends to lean on the yoga side with a sprinkling of Pilates. I do enjoy doing this workout between "Reach" workouts which is more intense.
more yoga than pilates.......2007-01-12
This is a great DVD if you want more yoga exercises than Pilates. It was relaxing and flowed very well from one exercise to the next.
Bad DVD.......2006-04-25
I ordered this DVD direct from Jonathan Urla's website in December 2005 as part of a 3 DVD box set which covers levels 1, 2 and 3.
My level 2 DVD did not work properly - voice and picture didn't match and I began to hear a doubling on the sound track as if the player were reading from two different voice recordings at the same time. Then the picture started jumping and skipping until I found myself at the end of the program in no time at all. Needless to say the DVD was useless to me.
I contacted the company and was told there was a problem with the master copy and that I would be sent a new copy when they were remastered.
I waited and waited for that new copy and finally contacted the company again after about 3 months had passed. It seems they had the remastered copies but forgot about their promise to send me a clean copy.
Well, the 'clean copy' finally arrived in March but it too had problems with the sound track and I found it impossible to follow the program due to the sound issues. So I contacted the company again.
I was asked to send back the bad copies they had sent me (they didn't offer to pay for postage) and told that they would try again. But once again the same problem.
I was told this time that they would view the copy they sent me before sending it out and they asked again that I return the bad copy. I returned the bad copy several weeks ago and still haven't received a replacement.
Now I've tried to contact the company by email and phone and suddenly nobody returns my calls or emails.
I don't know what is going on but I feel abandoned. I've not been offered any money for the postage on returning the bad copy, no refund has been issued and I still don't have a working copy of the level 2 DVD.
They program may be a good one but the DVD has a big flaw and the company just doesn't care enough to take care of their customers once they got the money.
I feel mistreated and I will not be doing business with them again.
*****UPDATE*****
Exactly one day after I posted my first review I heard back from Jonathan Urla about my DVD problems.
He offered to refund my money for the DVD I returned. I was disappointed that we couldn't work out a way for me to get a DVD that worked properly in my player but since I had originally received the DVD on December 6th and had been trying for over 4 months to get a working copy I was ready to get my money back.
I received a reply email dated April 27th saying, "Your refund is forthcoming."
It is now July 18th and I'm still awaiting my refund. I sent an inquiry by email about a month ago to ask how my refund was to come to me and when I should expect it but I never heard back.
This may be a wonderful program if you can get it to play properly on your DVD player but I have to say I'm very disappointed in the customer service that I've received from Mr. Urla's company.
excellent workout.......2006-02-22
I was both a little skeptical and intrigued about yogilates when I first heard about it. I'm advanced in pilates and intermediate in yoga so I thought a combined workout might be interesting. I did the whole workout (54 min, 3 separate sections) and time just flew. It was both challenging and easy to follow. I agree with one of the reviews that this DVD is more focused on yoga than pilates, but I still enjoyed it. Jonathan Urla carefully explains all the poses and reminds you about the correct alignment. I really liked the small screen that showed the pose from the side as well. I'm going to try level 3 next. The instructor is excellent and I'm thinking about attending his class in NY.

A workout that balances both the body and the mind can be found in Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies. Fundamental postures are explained and demonstrated slowly with an emphasis on breathing and motion. Sara Ivanhoe teaches 12 basic poses that are termed the "daily dozen" and offers challenges and modifications to each of these moves. Ivanhoe presents these concepts in an approachable and calming manner that adds to the overall relaxed feeling that this session exudes. Newcomers to the practice of yoga will learn jargon, essential postures, and focusing techniques. Experienced participants may find some information redundant, but Ivanhoe offers such thorough explanations about each posture that you can't help but expand your existing knowledge of yoga. As the mountain pose, standing forward bend, and downward facing dog are explained (not to mention the nine other poses within the "daily dozen"), proper body alignment becomes the focus. Meticulous attention is given to the connection between breathing and body movement with several reminders to keep the spine in "neutral alignment." This session ranks great for safety and content and makes yoga accessible to anyone who "always wanted to, but never did." This is a substantial program that can introduce the basics and build your understanding of yoga. --Olivia Voigts
Pilates Workout for Dummies is a 60-minute DVD, ideal for both the first-time and intermediate Pilates exerciser. In the Basic Workout, well-toned instructor Michelle Dozois clearly and patiently presents 18 classic Pilates mat exercises, first demonstrating and explaining, then doing 6 to 10 repetitions. She explains what the Powerhouse is and how to use it, and covers the basics you'll need if you've never done this before (or need to be reminded), offering alignment tips, breathing, and extremely clear instructions for executing each movement. Dozois suggests modifications for making the exercises easier (or, occasionally, more challenging), and includes cautions against common mistakes and reminder tips for doing each exercise effectively. This is a fine first workout for Pilates novices. The Intermediate Workout consists of some of the Basic exercises and several new ones, all done at a faster pace and with more challenging instructions. This is a workout you can progress with! --Joan Price
Customer Reviews:
Yoga and Pilates! A critical review........2007-06-14
Yoga and Pilates for Dummies is fantastic. I'm a middle-aged man who discovered this by accident. An acquaintance had the single version of Pilates For Dummies lying around. I borrowed it and began to work out with it 5 days immediately after. With no initial change in dieting, I drop from a 34 waist to a 33 in a couple of weeks.
I did some research and began to change my diet. Now, after 3 years, I am only doing it twice a week, one dvd for Pilates and 3 days later the Yoga, dvd. I've gained the confidence since I rediscover my stomach muscles to take up weight training. I can say without hesitation that I am in the best shape of my life.
If one takes the time to do the exercises on a regular basis, you will wake up one morning and discover a distinctive change in your body, like I did.
Highly recommended.
Yoga & Pilates Workouts for Dummies.......2007-05-21
This product is exactly what I was hoping for. This is definitely a beginners level and since I have no previous experience with yoga exercises this is just what I needed. Very pleased.
Great practice!.......2006-07-17
I just purchased this set so I have not gotten to the pilates workouts yet, but I was interested in it mostly for the yoga practices. The yoga instructor is quite good and the practice leaves me limber and relaxed. I found it was simple to follow, but a great stretch.
