Lifestyles of the rich and famous - at 35,000 feet.......2007-07-21

In this first installment of a two episode program, an overview of sorts is given about the history of and fascination with aviation shared by many wealthy and notable personalities. Some of these included are John Travolta, Sydney Pollack, and Carly Simon.

Looking next at the various uses for the different aircraft shown, whether it is business or pleasure, they are all exquisite in their own way and with all the modern amenities built in, versatility and functionality are the operative words here. As far as luxury and comfort are concerned, many of these jets are only one or two steps removed from being flying motor homes in many cases.

When it comes to creating those fantastic interiors, the program introduces Kim Adams Emery and Cheryl Strack (affectionately known as `the two girls from Texas' by clients) who are the top executives of Aviation Concepts out of Dallas, Texas. This is a boutique design company specializing in the interior design of dream jets. Thus begins a video journey over a one year period as they work to retrofit the interior of a Boeing 767 jumbo jet for an anonymous customer.

Finishing up this first half looks at rich people who find it impractical to purchase their own aircraft so they engage in `fractional ownership'. This entails a company selling you a portion of a dream jet and the plan is similar to owning a time share condo. Individuals or corporations can buy an eighth, a sixteenth, or a quarter share of a jet and use it for a predetermined number of hours per year and pay a monthly service charge. Not too shabby by any means.

To begin the second installment, there is some nice footage shown of Hugh Hefner's Playboy DC-9, Elvis Presley's former aircraft named the `Lisa Marie', and CEO Jack Roush's executive jet and his Boeing 727.

Continuing from the first segment, viewers get to see the end result of transforming the inside of the Boeing 767 by `the two girls from Texas' and it is spectacular. The beauty, craftsmanship, and elegance are really stunning.

Closing out this second half introduces Terri Jones Thayer who is a famous model and world record holding pilot. She is the creator of a future fly-in community development in Central Florida having the longest private runway in the country and where every home will eventually have a private aircraft hangar on the property.

When all is said and done, `Dream Jets' is a fine documentary that ends up being just plain fun to watch from start to finish. The visuals are great and the content is both interesting and appealing.
