In a far-flung future, Earth has finally united in peace, banned its criminal element to the outer reaches, and spread goodwill outward into the galaxy. After centuries of peace and successful first contacts, the United Earth Alliance is ill suited to encounter a more hostile species. The pride of the UEA fleet, the USS Armstrong is a science and exploration vessel with only defensive armament. Captain Royce McGregor (Royce Essig), their jolly leader and his wife Angela (Staci Jones), the ship's doctor, are looking forward to retirement when they receive a distress call from Gorin (Mitchell Bentley) of the pirate ship Scimitar. McGregor's world is turned upside down in the blink of an eye and he is seen as the perfect choice for a secret mission. He and his crew are recruited by Dark Operations, the ultra-secret military division of the UEA charged with the task of protecting the citizens of utopian Earth.

Refreshingly Original!.......2007-09-14

In the days of 'more CGI is better,' the special effects have often become the story. Dark Operations has special effects, yes. But the STORY is the thing, so they say. The characters are painfully human, with human faults and frailties, AND human strengths, and they must persevere in a future they are not prepared for. This drama is destined for success!

This film has a great original story line. I can't believe how much the film crew accomplished with a small budget. I also hear this is becoming a series. I highly recommend this series to any who enjoy great movies and stories.

I've never quite seen a movie like Johnny's Odyssey. At first you won't know what to make of it... later, after the dementia sets in, you'll begin to understand the genius of it. It's a subtle genius, but it's there.

This is a VERY VERY strange movie. It's pretty gross, with lots of murders and what I'm fairly certain is real vomit.

But it's also really, really funny. Some of the laughs are intentional, but a lot of them are unintentional. This isn't one of those "It's so bad it's good" movies as much as it is a "This is intentionally so bad it's good" movie. It seems as if some of the choices made were intentionally made because it would make the film cheesier.

This film is not intended for anyone with a weak stomach, or anyone who is easily offended. Maybe this film isn't for anyone. But EVERYONE should watch it at least once.

If you didn't see his name onscreen you'd never peg this early American Independent feature for a Radley Metzger film. This tale of a brooding Greek sailor (Athan Karras) who jumps a shipmate then jumps ship to New York to satisfy a personal vendetta looks more like the loose, street-shot cinema of Morris Engel (The Little Fugitive, Lovers and Lollipops) than the erotic romps Metzger became famous for. The sailor's plans seems to become temporarily derailed when he meets a nice Greek-American girl (Jeanne Jerrems), whose mix of politeness and forwardness disarms the tradition-bound Karras and he becomes torn between his mission and the possibilities of a relationship in the New World. Metzger and his collaborator William Kyriakis play with the contrasts between dour, humorless Karras, whose Old World values are spinning in the "permissive" social landscape of modern America, and the modern Jerrems. Some of the performances are inexpressive or clumsy and the story at times seems slight, but the location shooting and easy pace create a vivid world of the Greek-American community in New York City that gives life to the drama. --Sean Axmaker
