Sometimes everything comes together in a movie and it becomes something so much greater than the sum of its parts that it can only be described as a miracle. That's the case with Tender Mercies, a quietly luminous character piece about an alcoholic, washed-up country singer named Mac Sledge (Robert Duvall in an Oscar-winning performance) who hits bottom in a motel room one night and then slowly finds his way back into the land of the living with the help of the widow (Tess Harper) and her young son. It's a low-key, contemplative film that feels like a rural American family comedy in the vein of the great Japanese director, Yasujiro Ozu. Tender Mercies was directed by Australian Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Breaker Morant), written by Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird), who won an Oscar for his screenplay, and has an unbeatable cast. This is one of Duvall's most intimate and deeply personal performances, matched only by his debut 14 years later as actor-writer-director in The Apostle. --Jim Emerson
Customer Reviews:
A Drama With Realism, Heart & Dignity.......2007-09-05
This is a movie with a lot of "dignity." It has such realistic people, it kept me fascinated because it seemed so different from most films I've watched.
There aren't a lot of dramatic things that happen in the story yet, as a whole, it's a wonderful tale that stays with you. It's a lot more than just seeing an Oscar-winning performance by Robert Duvall as Texan and former C&W singer and writer, "Mac Sledge." It's simply good storytelling I can't say I am a fan of Duvall's country singing, but that is the only thing I didn't like. Well, maybe "Dixie" (Betty Buckley), who played a bitter ex-wife of Duvall's in here. She was not pleasant, but others were really nice, likable people. Yet, this is not some sappy movie just because most of the people are good folks.
As in film noirs in which the viewer has a sense of dread, knowing something bad is around the corner, I felt the same thing in this film, even though it didn't necessarily happen. I mean with the main characters: Mac, Rosa Lee and Sonny. There was underlying tension, probably because of Sledge's alcoholic and violent past, that made me fear that any minute he was going to ruin the nice setup he had with a good woman and nice stepson.
Duvall, as usual, makes his role a fascinating and unpredictable one. With many of the people he has played over the years, you never am sure what his characters are going to do next. Tess Harper, as Mac's new wife, and Alan Hubbard, as her son, are two of the most realistic characters I've ever seen on film. It helped they were from the area so their accents were real.
This is a just straight drama, with a solid screenplay by Horton Foote and direction by Bruce Beresford ("Driving Miss Daisy"). In addition, actors Buckley (who can sing, too), Wilford Brimley and Ellen Barkin all give memorable supporting performances. It was an interesting tale of something I have rarely seen on film in the past 50 years: a good Christian woman lifting up a man to her level. She never had to do it verbally, never nagged or preached to the man, just set example of how to act and be a loving, supportive spouse. There is a lesson for people here with how well "Rosa Lee" handled situations. Nice.....very nice.
Tender Mercies.......2007-08-01
Didn't care much for the plot. I think Duvall was sort of mis-cast in that kind of movie but obviously I am far from being an authority on the subject
Deep in the heart of Texas. . ........2007-07-25
Robert Duvall just breaks your heart in this wonderful, low-keyed film about a recovering alcoholic who was once a country-western star. The gentleness of Horton Foote's story, set in Texas in the aftermath of Vietnam, makes it seem like it came from some other Hollywood than the one that turns out the noisy, special-effects belabored product that fills today's movie screens. The opening scenes of the film, which set the film's tone and pace, are elliptical and spare, and while much of the story concerns writing and performing music, the soundtrack is typically quiet - like the night-time crickets we hear as the film starts. When Duvall finally fronts a local band to sing one of his songs at a bar, you hang onto the words like they come from the heart - which they do.
Make no mistake, I loved this film when I first saw it in 1983, and it brought tears to my eyes when I saw it again in 2007. It's all the family values you hear in country and western songs about simple people and rural roots, yet it's no rose-colored portrayal of lives lived without mistakes made, disappointments, or trials by fire. The film is made up of small moments that carry the weight of all that the heart bears, and they stay with you, like Duvall standing at a window and softly singing "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove." Director Bruce Beresford brings a sensibility to Horton Foote's story that makes these characters spring to life (including brief appearances by Ellen Barkin and Wilford Brimley) while placing them in a Texas prairie that is both welcoming and lonesome. I'd trade everything currently showing at the local multiplex for another film like this.
Great movie @ a great price.......2007-05-30
Have been looking for this movie for years and finally found it on DVD. It is a good story line with a great performance from Duvall. A good family movie.
Gentle, dignified love story.......2007-05-29
I appreciate the gentle, dignified writing style of Horton Foote. I first experienced his unique style of writing in his Oscar-winning screenplay for To Kill a Mockingbird. In that film, he confronted racial injustice, and in the end challenged our answer to the question, "What is justice?" without clunking us over the head. Robert Duvall made his big screen debut in Mockingbird.
In Tender Mercies, Foote and Duvall team up again, and both men win Oscars. This time Foote takes us on the journey of a famous country singer/songwriter, Mac Sledge (Duvall), down on his luck due to years of alcohol abuse. Broke, and with a motel room to pay for when a friend skips out, Mac experiences the tender mercies of the kindly innkeeper, Rosa Lee (Tess Harper in her big screen debut). Again, Foote doesn't clunk us over the head with overt displays of affection, but this is a love story nonetheless, and a good one.

Customer Reviews:
Great flying and Christmas movie.......2007-08-26
This is a true story of how a pilot ferrying a single engine cropduster across the ocean, was saved by the help of a pilot in a passing airliner. Finding the location of the lost pilot is a lesson in science. It's a heartwarming family movie.
Great TV Flick (Mercy Mission).......2007-08-21
I have been awaiting this to come out on dvd for a while now. It stars Robert Loggia and Scott Bakula. Bakula is flying a single engine plane to another destination in the blackness of night over the ocean. He then encounters some problems with his plane and Loggia, who is Captain of a jet liner, offers his help. Won't say how it ends. This is an excellent tv movie that is full of suspense and tension. I highly recommend it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. My 5-star rating is based on the quality of it being a tv movie. You don't find many like this one. Not sure if I have seen "Nowhere To Land" so I won't rate that one.
By The Way: These are not Widescreen, they are Full Screen TV movies.
Finally...Mercy Mission on DVD.......2007-08-12
I really enjoy the movie "Mercy Mission" and I'm so glad to see it's finally being released to DVD.

No Brains is more like it. Richard Gere stars in this slick action thriller as your basic tough-but-dedicated cop who goes to New Orleans to avenge the death of his partner. On the way, he becomes involved with an illiterate Cajun beauty (Kim Basinger in the kind of role that unkind critics would call her typecast in before Ready to Wear and, of course, L.A. Confidential) who's the property of a ruthless killer. It's paint-by-numbers nonsense with lines (such as "we come from a society where it is very pleasurable to be a man") that play as high camp--unfortunately, that's not intended. Gere and Basinger's relationship--they'd try again, equally unconvincingly, with Final Analysis--is patently silly. They spend the first half of the movie exchanging hilariously sultry meaningful glances, until they're on the lam together, where the burning question is which actor's hair will be more stylishly mussed. --David Kronke
Customer Reviews:
Down in the bayou.......2005-03-24
Richard Gere is the tough Chicago cop who goes to the Big Easy to track down the killer of his partner. This killer is a much feared hood in New Orleans named Losado. While down there Gere runs into Kim Basinger, a "slave" of Losado's, and he becomes determined to free her as well as kill Losado. This is all very typical thriller fare, although it can be pretty suspenseful at times--especially in the bayous and, of course, the big ending where Gere gets his man in a nail-biting shoot out and fire. But after you've seen this, ask yourself the next day how much you can remember. Note: There's a scene in the picture that's stolen directly from Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps": Gere and Basinger are handcuffed together as they make their escape through the swamps.
"I keeled yore freend...Eh-dee.".......2005-03-07
In the very small "Chicago cop livestock crawl swamp swimming crawfish headsucking revenge" genre this is by far the best of all time! haw haw
Richard Gere plays Chicago undercover dick Eddie Jillette who, along with his partner, were unwittingly being hired by Kim Basinger's rich New Orleans boyfriend to kill this really bad meanie Losado, played by the ultra-unlikable Jeroen Krabbe, who we find later has "owned" Kim since she was like 12 years old. Unfortunately, Losado gets wise to the deal and follows Kim to Chicago where death and mayhem ensue, particularly to Jillete's partner who was "guh-tted like a peeg."
Well, Gere goes down to New Orleans looking for clues to his partner's killer with predictable results. In the process, William Atherton the brother of dead murdered and killed boyfriend shows off his wimpy backhand, and then gets threatened and carwrecked by Jillette, probably because he was such a jerk in Die Hard. Anyway, because he's a Yankee and a lot smarter than us Southerners (yuk yuk) he only needs about 10 minutes to find Kim (Mee-chelle) in a club on the wrong side of the river in Algiers, a town highly reminiscent of Hell if you've ever been down there too. Now here's the good part.....Kim Basinger on the dance floor grooving to some kind of hybrid Cajun island funk, and I mean she is throwing down! Hair, boobs, lips...your basic winner of the Nordic Combined. And then she goes in the ladies room and DOUSES HERSELF WITH WATER TO COOL DOWN! Hey, somebody DOUSE ME TOO! OK, have you hit the "Add to Cart" button yet?
The rest of the movie is pretty silly but as romantic thrillers go, Gere and Basinger set the bar pretty high. They have terrific chemistry and that alone will keep you interested until the final showdown between Jillette and Losado to decide who gets title to the beautimous Mee-chelle.
The DVD has both Widescreen and Standard with 2 channel Dolby. No other extras but the transfer is actually pretty good. A Top 10 datenight movie. 4 Po-boys
Grade F+.......2004-07-12
A cop's partner is killed, and poor Richard feels he has to go and take care of the bad guy that did it. Richard's wife has left him and he now is divorced, so Kim, who is a white slave of the bad guy, ads more reason for Richard to go after the bad guy. Besides, Kim was there when Richard's partner was done in.
THE GOOD
Not much, Kim Bassinger is pretty to look at, and that is about it.
THE BAD
Richard and Kim along with rest of the cast, seem to be going thru the motions of acting. Richard has the same blank stare that he has in most of his moves. Living close to New Orleans, they did not take advantage of the local landscape. This movie could have been filmed anywhere. They do not know how to eat Crawfish in the movie, a southern treat. The Final fight scene is poorly shot.
C.P.O.V
The F word is used alot, along with other foul language. Kim's breast are shown thru her wet shirt as she poors water down blouse to cool off. The killings are pretty bloodless, compared to today's standards. Not a lot of killings in this movie anyway.-EJW
This is a 5 star!.......2003-12-11
this is such an incredible movie. We get to see to Oscar winning performances here. Both great bodies strut their stuff and intensify the moments in the movie with the dramatic impersinations of the charactors. Don't miss it!
Gere, Bassinger Have That Chemistry That Heats Up The Screen.......2003-04-05
A film that went unoticed in the 80's is a tight well acted thriller starring the incomparable Richard Gere as tough brash Chicago Cop who's on a revenge misson to the bayous of New Orleans to find his partner's killer and gets involved with a mobster's illerate mistress. Standard Script with a few good action sequences thrown in along with Gere's exceptional talent to hold the viewer's attention throughtout the entire film. Even though the viewer has been through familar territory with this type of script it is still a great movie. Memorable scene was when Gere & Bassinger are treding through the swamps handcuffed together Mouthing off to one another. First of two film this duo has done together the other film was released 6 years later in another steamy thriller "Final Analysis"

Little of Mercy .......2007-05-14
Is it a thriller or a drama or an action movie? Well the truth is that it is not one thing but a bit of a mixed salad. However if you looking for action with a big bang then read no further. If you looking for a thriller which incorporates ingredients of deep and dark psyche of the human mind then this is for you. Ellen Barkin plays a cop investigating a serial killer who is preoccupied with sadomasochism, sex and ultimately murder. Ellen has her own demons to conquer from realising her sexuality to performing her duties as a cop on the heels of a serial killer. Can be a bit long for some, but if you into psych thrillers then you won't mind the length. The end has a major twist to it. Highly recommended for those wanting a deeper and darker psych thriller.
Cool movie but paints a very poor image of BDSM.......2007-04-14
I enjoyed this movie but was rather irritated with the way it painted all kinky folk as emotionally damaged and sexually abused. That's a very negative stereotype and I hate seeing it perpetuated. Other than that, I liked it. The plot twists and turns nicely and there are some very hot scenes in it. There's some interesting eye candy in the cinematography that I enjoyed also (primarily in the dream scenes). If you're thinking of buying this movie because you're interested in BDSM a better choice might be Secretary, but if you're looking for a fun thriller with a twist this is your ticket. :)
One of the best lesbian movies.......2006-11-20
I totally enjoyed this movie. I saw it when I was 15 years old and I never forgot the plot, however, I did forget the name. Few years later, my friend told me she had a 'great' movie at home. So we watched it and boom!!!, here it was Mercy! I immediatly bought it and keep loving it.
child abuse,lesbianism,anger........2006-05-30
Today,is may 29th,06. Rented movie. Excellent writing, great acting. Had to write a review, people don't think when they write a review. Ellen barkin is trying to figure out who the killer is. she asks petas character what she is hiding. The only thing she is hiding, is her own child hood abuse. That is the bases for the killings. the killer was abused her self as a child. But we think the killer is the crazy cross dressing psyciatrist.[spelling]The writer does an excellent job of useing his patients in the story. Bernadine sees her aunt and another women together naked as a child. It contributes to her cuiosity as an adult. The message is clear, sex abuse really hurts people when they become adults. Human beings always review they're child hood, good or bad,as adults. Also we did not think a women could do the horrible murders. The sex is very erotic,Barkin getting f__ked while getting her hair pulled. Very sexual scene with peta almost seduceing Barkin. Peta has very nice body, wanted to kiss her myself down to her pretty feet. other reviews are not good. This is a very good movie. Also Zerha leverman is beautiful, great body.
Obstacles and mystery.......2006-05-10
The detective story in Mercy is solid. The bondage/Lesbian elements serve as obstacles for Ellen Barkin's detective character. Instead of sacrificing mystery and suspense to dowse the plot with sexual indulgence, the movie sustains its validity as a good suspense thriller. Character development is interesting, as is the search for a solution to the bizarre crimes that seem to continue without clues. A solution to additional misconduct is also addressed - a satisfying bonus to the film's complex storyline.

Of all the Star Trek original series DVDs, Volume 14 will surely remain one of the most popular, for it offers the first-ever appearance of Klingons (in "Errand of Mercy") and the episode many fans consider the finest of all "classic Trek" adventures.
In "Errand of Mercy," war between the Klingons and the Federation is imminent, and it's up to Captain Kirk (William Shatner) to persuade the peaceful, agrarian planet Organia to sign on with the good guys before the Klingons overwhelm the place. Organia is in a strategically valuable position for whichever warring side claims it first, but the Organians don't seem to care. Kirk and First Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) make an awfully good pitch for Federation protection, but Organian leaders reject the offer as a tacit invitation to violence, taking little heed of a Klingon invasion and earning the enmity of both Kirk and Klingon Commander Kor (John Colicos). Essentially a Cold War satire disguised as a Federation-Klingon showdown, "Errand of Mercy" is the brainchild of producer-writer Gene L. Coon, who makes a wonderfully convincing case for the absurdity of each side's claim to moral superiority. Highlights include the Butch-and-Sundance banter between Kirk and Spock as they form a two-man Resistance movement. The episode is directed by John Newland, best known as the host of the supernatural television series, One Step Beyond.
"The City on the Edge of Forever" begins with a medical accident that leaves Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) a paranoid madman. Leaping through a time portal to Earth's Great Depression of the 1930s, McCoy causes disastrous changes to history, forcing Kirk and Spock to follow him and undo whatever disruptive action he took centuries before. There, Kirk meets a kindly social worker, Edith Keeler (Joan Collins), with whom he falls in love before realizing her fate is the key to a restored future. A shattering drama, "City" brings out the best in the cast and production teams, looking like a feature film that found its way onto television. The background on this show is equally compelling and sometimes hysterically funny, beginning with a highly fanciful script by Harlan Ellison (including a scene with cast members riding a carousel that passes in and out the side of a mountain) that was either rewritten by series creator Gene Roddenberry or producer Gene L. Coon, depending on who's telling the story. Ironically, Ellison's original version won a Writer's Guild award while the revision captured a Hugo, but the real prize is the episode itself. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
A Keeper! Best Episodes From the First Season!.......2006-10-01
If you are picking which volumes to keep from the first season, this has got to be one of them. We get two of the best episodes from the season here and although the believablility factor is stretched quite a bit on "City...", "Errand of Mercy" is an excellent episode too. In the former, we get a Hugo Award winner and in the latter, we get to meet the Klingons for the first time! Both are great reasons to pick up this volume which represent the best of what Star Trek had to offer from its first season. In "Errand ...", superior beings teach representatives from the Klingon Empire and the Federation an important lesson about coexisting and about settling differences non-violently, something we could all still learn from today too. Overall, the plot is very good as well as the acting.
"City..." has become over the years one of the all-time favourite episodes of all Trek fans and I like it too but I have some trouble accepting some of the dramatic licence that this story expects us to take. For example, when Bones makes his unfortunate leap into the past and changes history, I can't understand why the Enterprise as well as the landing party didn't cease to exist as well. In any case, if you can ignore this one point, the rest of the episode is a real gem.

The enterprise discovers an ancient portal through time. A surge of energy from the portal hits the enterprise injurying Sulu. The shock wave causes Sulu to go into cardiac arrest. Dr. McCoy is about too hypo Sulu with with cordrazine when another wave hits the enterprise leading too an accidently injection. The cordrazine cause Dr McCoy to have excessive paranoia. McCoy thinks Enterprise members are a ship "of murderers and assassins" and assaults transporter personnel, beams down to the planet, and travels back into time. Spock and Jim beam down and discover the Personal Guardian of the time portal and because the guardian can only play the time scenes at one speed, they are prior in time too McCoy's arrival.
Spock and Jim must repair the history damaged by McCoy and return the enterprise back into existence. Jim and Spock arrive in New York City, in the late 1930s during the depression era. They escape a confrontation with a police officer and manage to arrive at the 21st mission and meet a woman name Edith Keeler.
War is evil. War impoverishes countries. The US maintained a policy of isolationism. America did not share Europe's fascination with death. Could America have remained free without participating in WWII? Spock's computer prediction was wrong. America would have remained free without entering the war. The economic loan defaults would take 10 years to stabilize and another 10 for the companies too rebuild. There would be no US war debt. The free market forces of capitalism would create new wealth.
Life, liberty, and private property inevitable rights would set the groundwork for US prosperity. America would prosper and Nazism like Communism would collapse under the weight of its ideology disconnects. Germany had expended all its resources and did not have the resources fight America. The US had the able to protect itself, if attacked; thus avoiding an offensive war. Spock's computer algorithm was simple, the first country too possess a nuclear weapon would an idol of unprecedented super power. The computer predicted that passive movements would result in losing the arms race, the destruction of Europe, and the Rise of a new Rome. History seems to favor Spock; however, his algorithm was designed to make his version of history preferred.
Spock builds a 21st computer by assembling vacuum tubes in a series creating a mnemonic memory device. The crude computer reveals that Social Worker Edith Keeler was killed in a hit and run car homicide. At that moment the computer burns up. Spock redesigns and stabilizes, the computer and learns that history has suddenly changed. Edit Keeler does not die because McCoy intervenes and saves her. Edit Keeler leads a growing pacifist movement and becomes the President of the United States. German would win the arms race, destroy Europe, and control the world. The change in world events over the next six years would destroy the Federation space programs causing the Enterprise too cease to exist. Edit Keelers became the focus point in time changing history. McCoy was the random element.
McCoy appears and lies sick in the street. McCoy is taken to the Mission, but Jim and Kirk are unaware of his arrival. Keeler is impressed with McCoy and nurse him to health. McCoy falls in love with Keeler.
Kirk romantic intentions for Keeler have been increasing. Keeler stumbles on the stairway but Kirk saves her from falling down the stairs. Spock chastises Kirk believing he may have interfered with time allowing his "fascination for death scenero" manifest.
Jim and Spock prevent McCoy from saving Keeler; events unfold as predicted and Keeler dies in the car accident.
The personal Guardian knew that Kirk and Spock would fix history. We know this because they did not cease to exist. Therefore, the guardian was unwilling to provide an advice or assistance. The past could not be changed by visitors, so the visit to the past was harmless.
I would have saved Joan Collins from the car.......2005-07-21
Let the Nazis have the world, it's a small price to pay to bag Joan Collins.
Great Drama!.......2005-03-05
"The City on the Edge of Forever" is great drama presented during Star Trek's phenomenal run in the sixties. The story was genuine and unique for the time and addressed the issue of time travel quite intelligently..Based on an original story by Harlan Ellison, this wonderful episode starred the beautiful Joan Collins in a sensitive and touching role as Edith Keeler..a social worker who's death has an impact upon history.
The chemistry between William Shatner and Joan Collins works well in this episode and Shatner's acting is very subdued but very effective..He conveys his emotions quite effectively in his closeups! I can understand why this particular episode is considered one of the best in the series! Every time I used to run across it as a rerun I would find myself stopping what I was doing to watch it! Now I have it on DVD and still enjoy watching it! One of my favorite scenes is the close up on Joan Collin's face when Spock was trying to explain what he was trying to buid with all the the tubes and antennas chirping in their bungalow..Her expression is priceless! I loved Joan Collins in this role..I wish she would have done more in this vein..
The Guardian of Forever was a unique design and worked very effectively for the show..It must have been quite a feat putting together all of these props for this show..
I would say I am a true Trekkie in that I have read practically every autobiography written by the cast and all the supporting books on the show..I can say honestly that I have seen all 79 episodes at one time or another in my life but now that they are available on DVD I plan on rewatching them and adding my favorites to my collection!
Also DeForest Kelley was superb in this show! DeForest was a brilliant actor who has made such an indelible impression as "Bones" McCoy..In this episode his frenzied state of mind is portrayed convincingly and his scene with Joan Collins is one of the best in the series in my opinion. This show had it all..great writing..great directing..great acting!!
Two Essential Episodes.......2004-12-04
Kirk & Spock go on an ERRAND OF MERCY to save the planet Organia from Klingon conquest, but find the simple Organians are far from defenseless - or exactly what they seem. This episode introduced the Klingons, who are portrayed through sharp characterization and skillful acting rather than with the smoke and make-up that would be used on later Trek incarnations.
After history is catastrophically altered by a deranged McCoy, Kirk & Spock must go to THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER (1930's New York) to set things right, but find their mission intertwined with the fate of a woman (Joan Collins) with whom Kirk has fallen in love. Widely acclaimed as the best Trek of all time, and probably Shatner's finest performance.

DVD Problem.......2007-02-11
The concert was good. As some have pointed out, the continuity is disrupted by unfortunate edits. One big problem; the DVD will not produce 5.1 surround. It has the setup menu and declares that it is DD 5.1 on the case but when it goes to play it reverts to standard stereo. Same result on multiple players. So don't expect great sound if you have a high-end sound system.
Very inspirational, personal.......2007-01-07
Am a big MercyMe fan, saw this concert broadcast on a local Christian television station before purchasing the DVD. Don't have much to add to the positive reviews written here, just wanted to add my two cents that I thought the opening and closing numbers surprised me, the closing song in particular had me for some reason moved to tears, as the band paid tribute to one of the best Modern Rock bands in the past 30 years, and did it in a way that totally glorified the song as a worship song. No spoilers here, watch the DVD and maybe you'll catch a glimpse into what I mean. Found the concert footage and inter splicings of extra footage to be very intimate and personal. Loved it!
worth every penny and then some.......2006-09-03
i am going to keep this short. just read the reviews about this dvd. everything these reviewers wrote is true. however, with all do respect, the review written by DAN THE MUSIC MAN has me baffled. i can't help but to disagree with his review. i felt that the breaks in the concert were tastefully done. i have seen alot of concerts where the breaks in the concert were very annoying and edited really bad. a good example of this is on a dvd entitled JAMIE CULLUM LIVE AT THE BLENHEIM PALACE. an amazingly talented guy but i found myself fast forwarding through the extras to get to the next song.however, another must have dvd. now, back to mercyme. one of the best bands i have ever experienced. worth every penny.
Very disappointed.......2005-07-11
I'm a big MM fan and even had the pleasure of sitting front row a couple of years ago when they toured with MWS. It was a fantastic show. I'd been waiting for a live dvd and when I saw this one available, I wasted no time ordering it. Big, big disappointment. Lifeless. It seemed like the band was simply doing a 'sound check' and wanting to get through their songlist. They were very methodical. There was no passion in the singing, no emotion, no spirituality. The studio versions are overflowing with emotion and passion. But not this live dvd.
And every few songs the concert is edited out and a bit of other footage is edited in for a couple of minutes. Then back to the concert. Totally took the momentum of the concert out. I hope the next one is better. It wouldn't take much to be better than this one. Will I still purchase MM cd's? You bet. Will I still pay to see them perform live? Without a doubt. I'm just disappointed that they couldn't deliver something with a little bit of soul.
ONE WORD WOW.......2005-03-26
my friend and i sat in his apartment getting ready to go play foosball watching this DVD. it was the most inspiring concert ive ever seen. i think the concert that was put on this DVD has to be better than the third day concerts ive been to and ever the michael w smith concert. i would strongly recommend getting this if you like mercy me. the way bart millard and the gang did i can only imagine and word of God speak just made me melt. it was just powerful. you gotta get this. it will touch you in a whole new way.

One of the best of the invasion era........2007-09-10
This ppv continued the invasion storyline. Plus the Austin & Angle rivalry got spiced up a bit adding RVD into the mix. It made perfect sense being the fact that, RVD got the biggest "pop" out of the entire alliance. Even bigger than Stone Cold at times. Only one filler match. Everything else was pretty much bang on.
WCW Tag Team Tittles
Hardyz w/Lita vs. Hurricane w/Molly & Lance Storm w/Ivory
These two teams bought their best. Rarely do they ever disappoint. This match had just about everything. Highy flying and fast spaced wrestling. Interference on both sides even from the women. It was just a very fun and entertaining match. Excellent opener. 5/5
Kane vs. Test
I think 00-02 was possibly Test's best run. This was when I actually liked to see him in the ring. A great big man match that never really slowed down. The ending worked out pretty good. To include a beating takes place after the match. 4/5
First Ever Lingerie Match
Torrie vs. Stacy Keibler
Do I really have to comment on this? They are hot and thats all I got to say about that. 2.5/5
IC Title Ladder Match
Christian vs. Edge
These two seemed like they were born for this. They blended perfrctly together. It had brawling, lots of weapon use, I mean there is just way too many spots to talk about. An excellent match. 5/5
WWF Tag Team Titles
Dudleyz vs. Tajiri & Big Show
I didn't think this match would be very good. But it didn't slow down the ppv at all. The crowd was into it, and it just delivered. Pretty good match. 4/5
Undertaker vs. Booker T
This match is the blueprint to all of their future matches. It wasn't really a brawl at all. There was a bit of wrestling with Taker working on Booker's arm. It really did look painful too. A good ending also, even though its been done before this match. And many times later. 4.5/5
WCW Title
Rock vs. Chris Jericho
I can't say anything bad about this match. Great entertaining with great build up. It was pure excellence from my view. Lots of cool spots. These two worked their a55es off. Stephanie even took a beatdown in this. This lived up to the hype. 5/5
WWF Title Triple Threat
Stone Cold vs. RVD vs. Kurt Angle
The build up was done great. This match as well lived up to the hype. One of the best triple threat matches for the wwf title ever. This had everything also. Brawling, high flying, weapons, interference. It was just pulled off perfect. I can't think of one bad thing about this match either. 5/5
This DVD is worth owning. It could easily be the best of the invasion angle. With only one match that shouldn't be here at all. This would be a great buy.
Solid PPV of the Invasion era, with only a few disappointments.......2007-08-14
Deep into the Invasion era, and past the initial shock and thought of WCW/ECW superstars invading the WWF, I felt there was a slag in the road, as the Unforgiven 2001 PPV was something of a disaster. But the next month held an even greater venue I soon found out.
WCW Tag Team Championship
The Hardy Boys (C) vs Lance Storm and The Hurricane
Storm and Hurricane was an odd pairing in my opinion, though they worked very well together, and this was a high impact match that had classic Hardy Boys written all over it. Very few slow points. (9/10)
Kane vs Test
Two monsters pitted against each other, you expect power wrestling and the occasional brawling. But when Test's only defining move is a big boot (which any random fit person could do) you can't expect much from him. This match wasn't as much bad as it was just boring. Test is not a great entertainer, and Kane had little to work with. (4/10)
Lingerie Match
Torrie Wilson vs Stacey Kiebler
I don't even need to comment on these sort of matches, do I? (0/10)
WWF Intercontinental Championship
Edge vs Christian (C)
For a ladder match, and for two amazing competitors like Edge and Christian, this one was surprisingly a dud. There were some entertaining high points, but most of the match was empty punches and kicks, generic wrestling moves (like catapulting someone into the ropes) and overselling the effects of ladder combat. There wasn't a minute in the match past the 10 minute mark that didn't see the two of them on their feet and in action without dropping and flopping around exhaustedly. Not their best. (6/10)
WWF Tag Team Championship
The Dudley Boyz (C) vs Tajiri and The Big Show
For me, this was one of those post-ECW moments where The Dudley Boyz prove they are one of the best tag teams in history. This match was on, and the charisma and heel heat the Dudleys generated was awesome to behold, and the team of the monster Big Show and the athlete Tajiri was potent. (8/10)
Undertaker vs Booker T
Little to look forward to here. I agree with another reviewer in saying this was just a filler match. Nothing surprised me or entertained me, it was generic wrestling at its best. (5/10)
WCW Championship
The Rock (C) vs Chris Jericho
It's these sort of matches that made the WWF the best major wrestling promotion of its time. The Rock is not a great wrestler athletically, but he is highly flexible, can do some moves, and has an electrifying charisma in and out of the ring which more than makes up for his flaws, even among his detractors. This sort of energy is painfully missing in the WWE these days with the likes of John Cena taking his place as the fan favorite. Both Jericho and The Rock were fan favorites in this one, and their bout was full of energy from the competitors and the audience. There wasn't a silent or slow moment in the entire match. (10/10)
WWF Championship
Stone Cold Steve Austin (C) vs Kurt Angle vs Rob Van Dam
With the disappointment of the previous event's main event, I wasn't expecting much better from this one. The three fused highly well with their conflicting styles, and while it wasn't as good as the WCW Championship match, it turned out a classic WWF Attitude era main event, and would be one of the last. (9/10)
All in all, this was one of the better WWF PPVs I've seen, and puts most all the current WWE PPVs to shame.
No mercy 2001 is a 4 star ppv.......2006-07-20

1. The hardy Boyz vs. The hurrican and lance storm for the wcw tag team titles- This was a nice chocie as an opener. Both teams really put alot of effort in to this match. I would say that it was a nice fast paced hardy boyz trype of match and one that was given enough time to enjoy. WInners and stil wcw tag team champs the hardy boyz. Match Rating 7/10.
2. TEst vs. Kane- This was an okay match. I would sy that this was an aboveaverage big man match. I think that kane carried this match and i never thought test did much. Lots of near falls and lots of hard hitting action in this match. Big boot wins it for test. WInner Test MAtch Rating 7/10.
3. Torrie vs. Stacy in a lingera match- This was a horriable match. this was not a good wrestling match at all and the only two resons these women were brought in was because for looks. Saying htat i will rate this match in a half based on looks. WInenr torrie wilison. Match Rating 5/10.
4. Edge vs. Christian for the wwe itc title in a ladder match- This was tied for the match of the night. It mioght have been match of the night it was hard to decide. ANyway this was nice to see. They had had alot of ladder matches thsi year but this one took the cake. For one reason is because these two have been in so many ladder matches together they put on an awsome show with alot of high fling spots. WInner and new wwe itc champ edge. Match Rating 9/10.
5. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Big Show & Tajiri for the wwf tag team titles- This was an averag tag team match. I really could not get into this much as much as i should have. The reaosn being is that i think that the big show and tajiri did not mix well as a tag team. IT was okaty but not that good. Winners and still wwe tag team champs the dudley boyz. Match Rating 6/10.
6. Undertaker vs. Booker T- This was another up and down match. They had another one of these in 2004 at judgement dya and i wouldsay that this one was a little bit better. WHen u look at this match on paper it looks alot btter than it is. There styles mixed ok but i oculd not get into it as much as i wanted. WInner Undertaker. MAtch Rating 6.5/10.
7. The Rock vs. Chris Jericho for the wcw title- This was a god match. There series basically staeyd the same rating wise but i really liked this on.e One reason is ther match was set up beaytiful with a great storyline and great wrestling. Also lots of near falls int his match made this awsome. The othere great part about this match was we got to see them give y2J the respect he finally deserved. it was so nice for him to get a little bit of a push. Winner and new wcw champ Y2J. match Rating 8.5/10.
8. Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle vs. Rob Van Dam for the wwe title in a triple threat match- This was another great match. They added rvd to the mix which was a great chocie. This match flowwed so good to the feud of austin and angle to the addittion of rvd it worked perfect. Great time gievn about 20 minutes. This was non stop action and even thought the no dq did not come into play that much it was still great and a nice ending invovling shane and vince. WInner and still wwe champ. Match Rating 9/10.
Well that raps up another. I would give no mercy 2001 a grade of 58/80 which is a 72% which means this is an awsome ppv. I would very much recomend this to anyone and get it right away. If u can tell me if my review was helpful or not i would appreicate that. Thanks for your time.

Rating: 10/10
WWF Tag Team Championships
The Dudley Boyz vs. The Big Show & Tajiri
For some reason, i didn't like this match cause it sucks.Big Show & Tajiri gave a hell of a fight but the Dudleys pick up the victory
Rating: 5.5/10
Undertaker vs. Booker T
One man from WWF and one man from WCW.An average match with some action and an amateur like wrestling match. But it is still brilliant.Undertaker wins with a Last Ride.
Rating: 6/10
WCW Championship
The Rock vs. Chris Jericho
Are you ready for the main event..well let's start it in the WCW Championship. These two men gave a hell of a fight and The Rock is
entertaining peoples.Jericho finally defeated The Rock with a chair shot.DAMN you Jericho!
Rating: 8.5/10
WWF Championship Triple Threat No DQ Match
Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle vs. Rob Van Dam
One men from WWF, one man from WCW and one man from ECW, this match is great! They all do their signature moves and Vince kick's ass of Shane O' Mac.Austin wins with a sick stunner on RVD.
Rating: 9.5/10
Yet the best match of the night wasn't the main event, the ladder match is the best match of the night.Better than to remove the WWF Tag Team Championship match coz it sucks.2nd best PPV of 2001 after WrestleMania followed by No Way Out.
Buy this DVD worth of money
Finally Y2J has come to No Mercy to layeth the Smackdown on the great one!.......2005-08-17
This dvd is great. The matches were fantastic especially the wcw title match between Y2J and the Rock. The first match was the Hardy's vs Lance Storm and The Hurricane for the wcw tag tam titles. It was a great match to start the ppv with the Hardy's winning. The second match was Kane vs Test. This was a battle between two big studs with Test cheating to win.The third match was Torrie Wilson vs Stacy Keibler in a lingerie match.Torrie won which was good enough! The fourth match was Edge vs Christian in a ladder match for the IC title.Edge and Christian tore down the house with Edge winning after hitting Christian with a chair on the top of the ladder. The fifth match was The Dudley's vs The Big Show and Tagiri for the wwf tag team titles. The Dudleys won after Rhyno came out and gored the Big Show. The sixth match was The UnderTaker vs BookerT.The Undertaker won fair and square with the last ride. The seventh match was Y2J vs The Rock for the wcw title. The Rock was winning pretty much until Stephanie trying to cost Y2J actually cost The Rock causing the Rock to lose the wcw title. The eigth match was Stone Cold vs Kurt Angle vs Rvd for the wwf title.Austin won when he pinned RVD.

The quintessential awful WWE Pay per view.......2007-08-21
With a generic cover of JBL smiling and the No Mercy sign in a dollar bill, I should have seen disaster coming. But like an idiot, I plunged into it anyway. And I will make up for my regret by telling everyone just how awful it was.
Eddie Guerrero vs Luther Reigns
I swear, the match was secondary to the commentary. The match was as dull as they come, with little more than cheap punches, kicks, and stomps, and the occasional headlock, but all you ever heard was from Michael Cole and Tazz "OMG look at Luther Reigns!" "He used to be a mercenary" "He survived getting his throat cut" "He's a hardass OMG". It was a horrible match, ending with a fake hit with a police baton in memory of Ray Traylor, the Big Boss Man who died recently. (0/10)
Spike Dudley vs Nunzio
Not only are these two cruiserweights, but they're both ECW originals. The bookers in this time must not have known what to do with them, because they were reduced to mere brawlers with a few flying moves. This one was hopelessly boring with a predictable ending. (1/10)
Billy Kidman vs Paul London
Considering that these two are high flyers, I expected a cruiserweight high-flying bout of epic proportions in very un-WWE style. Alas, I've been spoiled by ECW, ROH, even old WWF. What I got instead was two high flyers acting like brawlers. Except for the occasional high impact ATTEMPT and the Shooting Star Press, this was little more than a brawl, more suited for a Hardcore Holly vs John Cena match.
The storyline behind this one was awful as well. After a legitimate botch of the Shooting Star Press, Billy Kidman injures Chavo Guerrero Jr., and what does the WWE do? They turn Kidman into the heel because he's afraid of hurting people with the SSP again. Inexplicably, he turns against Paul London, and is villainized because of his concern for others' well-being. An angle that ranks down there with Katie Vick. (0/10)
WWE Tag Team Championship
Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio vs Kenzi Suzuki and Rene Dupree (C)
With RVD and Rey Mysterio in the match, I'd've thought this would be a good one. Instead, in typical WWE style, their wings were cut, and Kenzo Suzuki showed just how limited his wrestling skills are. Either that, or the WWE decided to bill him as a brawler. The match was a dud when there shouldn't have been one. I'm shocked Smackdown bookers could fumble this one so badly. (3/10)
The Big Show vs Kurt Angle
This match had two parts, before Angle counted himself out and after Theodore Long restarted the match as a result. Before, The Big Show was dominating Angle like Mark Henry dominates John Q. Rassler on an average episode of Smackdown. Afterwards, Angle started fighting back, but why bother? The match was over as soon as Angle was counted out---boring, dull, listless. It's as if the bookers went on coffee break and just told Angle "don't even bother fighting" (0/10)
WWE United States Championship
John Cena vs Booker T (C)
Any match with Cena in it is almost guaranteed for failure. Still, Booker T tried, and for that I give him credit. Cena gave little for Booker to work with. It was as if the bookers told them, "Let Cena win, but make him look like he worked hard for it" and Cena ignored that order. (0/10)
Charlie Haas, Rico, and Miss Jackie vs The Dudley Boys and Dawn Marie
This one was not a wrestling match by any degree. The Dudleys hardly did anything, while most of the match was Bubba freaking out by being kissed by Rico, and D-Von being afraid to headbutt Rico's crotch---with Rico waving him in. Aside from this, Rico is an amazing athlete, with martial arts skills he wields in the ring, and Charlie Haas got to pull off some awesome wrestling moves before the match was pitifully over. (6/10)
WWE Championship
John Bradshaw Layfield (C) vs The Undertaker
JBL is hardly a great wrestler, and The Undertaker looks amazing only when pitted against even semi-decent wrestlers. This match had virtually no actual wrestling moves save for two chokeslams and a Tombstone Piledriver. The rest was punches, kicks, stomps, and a top-rope shoulder block by Bradshaw. This was an overly long, not very exciting match that had the decency to move much of the action out of the ring for our entertainment. Considering that The Undertaker was dominating JBL for 90% of the matchup, it was a lousy main event, with an even lousier ending that just spared JBL from further bouts with the Undertaker, and started a new storyline with The Undertaker and Heidenreich. (2/10)
The perfect example of how pitifully far the WWE has fallen since WCW died, this pay per view had everything the dumb mark (wrestling term) would want---punches, kicks, headlocks, stomps, and shoulderblocks galore!
One Of The Best SmackDown PPV's Of The Year.......2007-05-11
Eddie Guerrero vs. Luther Reigns - This was Luther's best match in his short WWE career as this was a good opener to get the crowd going. It's slow at times but overall, enjoyable & the ending with Eddie "lyin', cheatin', and stealin'" is just classic Guerrero.
Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio - The DVD I rented had a scratch on this part & kept skipping so I can't comment.
Paul London vs. Billy Kidman - I must be dreaming because there are two crusierweight matches on the same card! They actually had a good storyline going into this match along with Kidman having a personality for the first time since his fued with Hulk Hogan (which I'm sure most of us would like to forget). These two mesh well together & is actually one of the best matches of the night & the aftermath with the shooting star presses were something to see.
WWE Tag Team Champions Kenzo Suzuki & Rene Dupri vs. RVD & Rey Mysterio - Just like this PPV gave Reigns the best match of his career, this PPV also gave Kenzo Suzuki the best match of his career. It was very fast paced which works well in the favor of RVD & Mysterio. Watchable & solid.
Big Show vs. Kurt Angle - This was one of the best Big Show matches he's had in his career as he's going for revenge after he was "raped of his dignity" (tribute to Andre The Giant). It was a great performance out of both since Angle sold his "fear" of Show while Show looked ruthless.
United States Champion Booker T vs. John Cena - This was the last match of their series and this was another solid encounter as Booker T was one of the guys who brought out the best in John Cena. Back & forth action here and was another enjoyable performance for the night.
Dudleyz & Dawn Marie vs. Rico, Charlie Hass, Miss Jackie - This was based off a storyline where Dawn Marie was implying that she was having an affair with Charlie Hass...who was engaged to Miss Jackie. The match itself was suppost to be a filler but turned out to be very enjoyable as Rico's gimmick made the match comedic at times such as begging for D-Von to give him the "Whazzup!" headbutt to his crotch. Good solid match up.
Last Ride Match: WWE Champion JBL vs. Undertaker - This was a brutal brawl including chair shots & steel steps between the two that heavily makesup for their lackluster SummerSlam encounter. One of JBL's best encounters and a good way to end the show.
The DVD extras that I can remember were a post match Cena interviews with Luther Reigns & John Cena along with a pre-match interview with Booker T. Overall, this was one of the best SmackDown PPV's of the year (the other being No Way Out earlier that year) and is a solid PPV from top to bottom that I recommend.
Great PPV but dont pay to much for it.......2007-01-25
Wal-Mart just put this out in a special end-cap. the cost.. $3.88!!!! So dont pay more than that for it!
No Mercy 2004.......2006-06-13
This was a great paperview and its definitly worth the money. Heres my ratings for each match out of 10.
Eddie Guerrero vs. Luther Reigns
Rating- 7.5/10. This was a good match, slow at times but still enjoyable. Good choice for an opener.
Cruiserweight Championship
Spike Dudley vs. Nunzio
Rating- 8/10. I loved this cruiserweight match. It was fast paced and never slowed down with good counters. Exciting match.
Billy Kidman vs. Paul London
Rating- 9/10. This was an awesome match. WWE should really have more cruiserweight matches like this and all of their paperviews should deliver.
WWE Tag Team Championships
Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree vs. Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio
Rating- 9/10. This was a great tag team match. Rey and RVD work so great together as tag partners and it makes this a great match.
Big Show vs. Kurt Angle
Rating- 8/10. I actually liked this match. Big Show's ruthlessness added to this match and it was a great big man/small man match.
United States Championship
Booker T vs. John Cena
Rating- 8.5/10. This was a great match and these two work real well together. I didnt like the FU outta nowhere though cuz there was no build up to the end of the match whatsoever.
Dudleyz and Dawn Marie vs. Charlie Haas, Rico, and Miss Jackie
Rating- 8/10. This was a very enjoyable match. Nothing spectacular but a good match before the main event.
Last Ride Match for the WWE Title
Undertaker vs. JBL
Rating- 9.5/10. This match was brutal and i loved it. This really wasn't a wrestling match it was more of a brawl with several highlights.
Overall, i would give no mercy 04' a 9/10. It was a great paperview with no bad matches. Buy It!

Thumbs Up!.......2007-05-01
Superfantastic! Well worth owning 'cause you'll watch it at least a few times!
And yes the Hendrix anecdote is priceless........2006-01-13
Rather like the subject herself this is more a curio than a particularly rounded enterprise. It also starts rather slowly, although this is the non flashy style chosen for the documentary and as it progresses we see the wisdom of playing this all rather dead pan. By the time we have discovered that the now mid 50 year old Cynthia is more interesting than we first thought and that maybe the plaster cocks are imbued with some significance we have Camille Paglia making good sense and a New York gallery preparing an exhibition. Everyone is likable, the old rock people talking about their castings 30 years before, the young bloods giving it a go now and the ladies of the past giving us a glimpse of the world of the groupie all that long time ago. But likable despite everything is Cynthia herself as she struggles with her landlady, her distant mother and her pots of plaster. 'And what will you be wearing?' asks a prospective candidate, with a leer and it is clear that dressing sexy had never even occurred to her. And yes the Hendrix anecdote is priceless.
Portrait of a "hands on" artist..........2004-08-31
A profile of down-to-earth artist Cynthia "Plaster Caster" that should er, hold, the, er, attention of anyone fascinated by "The Sixties" or rock 'n' roll subculture in general. For the uninitiated, the "Plaster Casters" were a group of female "artists" (some may still argue, "groupies") who earned a universal backstage pass of sorts throughout the 60's and 70's by immortalizing the southernmost regions of many a rock legends' anatomy in plaster-based life-size sculpture. This would obviously guarantee many an amusing war story from (surviving) participants, and indeed, the most entertaining parts of the film are derived from such. One warning: The (somewhat deceptive) psychedelic cover art gives the impression that you might be in for a 60's time capsule, chock-a-block with vintage clips and music of the era; but the documentary is shot ultra low-budget direct to video, all "present day" footage with only an occasional still photo from the bygone days for context, and no "period" music to speak of. The overall "feel" is that of any one of the myriad of "reality" TV shows currently cluttering the commercial airwaves (of course, the subject matter here would be strictly "premium cable"!) The "extras" actually redeemed the investment for this reviewer-particularly the additional backstage tales that Cynthia tells regarding Led Zeppelin (somewhat harrowing, actually) and her explanation of why Kiss was "off" her list from the get-go. An interesting companion piece to "The Mayor Of The Sunset Strip" (see my review on this site) as an examination of the "almost famous" who take thier succor from the aura of rock stardom.
A Rock-Solid Documentary That's a Blast.......2004-01-22
I saw Cynthia Plaster Caster's "babies" on display at Threadwaxing Space in 2000, read about her in a 2001 issue of BB Gun, and was thus very eager to see this. I got my chance at a recent film festival, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This documentary is as unique as its subject, who comes across as quirky, warm and eternally youthful, and whose craft provides us with a bizarre but indispensible bit of rock n roll memorabilia.
You'll love "Plaster Caster" if you're a fan of: British rock of the 1960s and '70s; the GTO era of LA; the "indie" music scene of the 1980s and '90s; dive bars inhabited by shaggy-haired rock n rollers; and the DIY aesthetic.
I'm definitely buying this on DVD.
I liked it.......2004-01-17
This was a fun DVD. Not War & Peace but a good, fun view at the life of Cynthia. She is talented and sweet and very driven about her "art". It is art and it is her unique art that is true to the spirit she has. I like her, or what I get to see of her in this DVD. I say anyone who buys it will be happy with it.

Totally worth your time..........2004-07-29
I've been a fan of Mercy Me since "I Can Only Imagine" came out. Although I'm new to the scene, I know one thing.
This DVD changed te way I looked at the band and there music. You get a feel for who they are and why they are so passionate about what they do.
I admit, I cried while watching the making of their Award-Winning Hit. But there's more to it than that. You laugh with them as they go over childhood memories.
I especially liked the Behind the Scenes View of the Dove Awards.
You owe it to yourself and your WHOLE family to watch this amazing take on life in this Godly Band.
Go Bless
