The Girls Next Door: Season Two offers 16 more episodes of Holly, Bridget, and Kendra's pranks and party planning as Hef's main girls at the Playboy Mansion. Just like with Season One, watching Season Two is like eating junk food, so sensational and silly are the three ladies commenting on their glamorous day-to-day activities. Though the novelty of the show has worn off, more appearances by Hugh Hefner and a gained understanding of the trio's dynamics--equally friendly and competitive--helps the show transcend utter banality. In fact, the show feels more like Dynasty, now an intricate combination of reality television and soap opera. More shown aggravations amongst the ladies, and more glimpses of Hef's love for this unfolding drama in his own home, make the show a fine example of American sensationalism. Two episodes are dedicated to Hef's 80th birthday extravangaza, making it the most significant story in the second season. Wonderful footage of previous Hefner birthdays and previous playmates frolicking nearly nude adds heft to Playboy's historical significance. It's astonishing to think that this icon has enjoyed such a lifestyle for half a decade, and truly amazing to see Hefner now, on television, touring Europe in "I See London, I See France," dancing in nightclubs, or hosting a slumber party in "Sleepwear Optional." The girls, too, have seemingly settled into their careers when prepping to host their own exercise shows in "Mutiny On the Booty," during which Kendra, the biggest ditz of the three, shines with her martial arts demonstrations. As tempting as it is to choose favorites among the ladies in Season Two, one begins to realize that it's their metaphorical ménage-a-trois that keeps the show sexy, and that's what it's all about. BEST SHOW EVER!!!!.......2007-06-14
If you love the HEF and love watching 3 blondes actually prove to the world that they are not just dumb bimbos, then this dvd is for you. Holly, Bridget and Kendra all have different personalities that will make you feel like their best friend. It's hysterical to watch and of course it's playboy so there's other "feelings" there to. But being a female I watch this because I feel that no matter where you live, every female still has the same drama in their life as you. Except I don't live in a mansion or have a boyfriend that is over 80. But you do feel close to them in the end. I love watching this show and so should you.
Love it !.......2007-06-09
NOT hardcore...lots of fun and *candid* (sort of) shots of the girls
getting dressed, undressed and goofing around. I watch it while I
ride my stationary bike instead of depressing news programs. The second season has a Play All feature so you don't have to keep going back to the
main menu. Three discs in all, with a paragraph for each episode in case you want to get right to the naught bits.
Not-so-guilty pleasure........2007-05-17
I absolutely love the Playboy empire and this show is just another great aspect of it! All the girls are so lovable and Hef's great personality is also featured on the show a lot.
Being a reality show on E - of course a lot of it is staged, but it doesn't come across that way. The girls all seem to be so genuine and all their daily activities aren't overblown to make them seem like divas or gold diggers or anything. It sounds almost silly to say, but Playboy and this show are just about as all American and genuine as it gets!
I think this show is great for men and women. A bunch of beautiful women, a glimpse into Hef's life, funny situations... what more could you ask for!
The bonus features are always so funny as well.
awesome, funny, and a great way to spent half a hour .......2007-04-29
when i first saw the adds for this show i thought it was going to be very stupid but it ended up being one of the funniest shows on t.v even if you dont like reality tv that much like me i think you would get a kick out of this show.
Hef and the girls are back for 16 more, well made, funny and addictive episodes........2007-04-23
How can I give 5 stars to something that hasn't even been released yet? It's simple, really. I loved the Season 1 individual episodes and DVD extras, and also thoroughly enjoyed every one of the 16 UNCENSORED Season 2 episodes (about 23 min. each) that I just finished watching (shown by Canada's StarTv channel). According to the press releases for the Season 2 DVD's, they're going to again be uncensored, in full-screen, and include more of the same jam-packed extras as before. So, as long as they don't screw anything up, it's going to be a sure-fire success.
The extras include: 48 deleted scenes totalling about 67 minutes in length, 7 extra minutes of the Halloween party episode, a special combined and extended version of the first two (Season 2) episodes (48 minutes long-includes some different scenes added to it), bloopers(as hidden Easter Eggs-see end of my review, for how to view them), commentary by the three girls on all of the 16 episodes and more.
I'd give the Season #2 episodes 4 stars (same grade as the Season 1 episodes), even if there were NO Dvd extras, only because many of the episodes are similar to the Season 1 episodes. There's the Halloween party again and some of the trips the girls and Hef take remind me too much of the Season 1 trips (even though they do travel to many different places). That's not to say that they didn't offer anything new, but at times I wish something totally unexpected happened that required a new direction in the series. I imagine Holly's eventual pregnancy will do the trick for future season episodes. However, I still was eagerly looking forward to each new episode and wasn't bored at all. It's all still very well edited, superior, quality stuff. Bravo!
If you enjoyed Season 1, then get ready for 16 more of the same funny and addictive episodes that you've come to expect from this series, filled with just enough nudity and cursing (sweet, sweet Kendra), so that you're still satisfied, yet, not totally bored with it all. Now that we know the girls so well, no time is wasted with the sometimes dull character development stuff that naturally happens in first seasons. These girls stay virtually the same for the entire series, except for Bridget, who is now the more interesting of the three and most likely will be the one appearing on more television shows (Extra!,etc.) than the others. She's bright, well-spoken and has a killer sweet smile that almost never quits.
Yes, Kendra is still the true star of this series and still has her signature hilarious laugh and killer body, but she still seems just as immature (which is good for the series) at 21, as she was at 19, and still lacks the patience to concentrate for greater than five minutes at a time. I don't think she's as hilarious as she was in Season 1, but that could be just because I've gotten used to her. I still love her laugh, and also the way almost every time she passes by a mirror or is getting dressed, she can't resist shaking her booty and marvelling at it in the mirror. Priceless stuff.
Holly's smart, stubborn and very creative, but seems more interested in having a baby than anything else. If Holly left the show I wouldn't really care. She's just taking away screen time from the other two more interesting girls in my opinion. Although, I still like her enough, and she does offer good contrast for the other two girls. So, if she left, the chemistry of the show would probably suffer.
Hef's in the episodes more often this time around, so they do seem more complete, more natural and smoother overall. However, in one episode, Hef does seem too fascinated with one of Kendra's childhood videos that he watches for the first time with her family (including the grandfather), so that he comes across as seeming very creepy. Kinder, or better editing, would have helped out there. Yuck...just the thought of that scene still creeps me out.
I haven't seen any of the Season 3 episodes yet, but I'll gladly watch those as well, when I get the chance. In the meantime, go watch Season 2 on Dvd, you'll be glad you did!

Arguably the junkiest and most entertaining reality TV series to date, The Girls Next Door's sensationalism capitalizes on the public's desire to understand what really goes on inside the Playboy Mansion. Starring Hugh Hefner's three main girlfriends as themselves (Kendra Wilkinson, Bridget Marquardt, and "first girl" Holly Madison), the three women, over the course of 15 episodes, describe their daily lives, their feelings for Hef, and the life choices that have helped them to make their dreams come true. Glimpses into Hef's personal affairs, and even his living quarters, like his cluttered but regal office and his gigantic bed, surely satisfy our need to gawk at celebrity. But as episodes delve deeper into this family's unique lifestyle, showing the competitive stress induced by Hugh's ex Barbi Benton's arrival in "Fight Night," or in the mad rush for lingerie preceding the infamous annual summer party, in "Midsummer Night's Dream," the viewer realizes that looking like a Playboy model is a full-time job. Episodes like "Just Shoot Me" fascinate by showing how Playboy photo shoots unfold, while "Grape Expectations," about Bridget's road trip to her hometown, Lodi, give the girls a down-to-earth patina. In fact, the show saliently demystifies pornography by making the industry's stars into real characters. This three-disc set features commentary, the unaired pilot, "Hef's World," and deleted scenes. If one craves to see the ultimate bimbos seamlessly revealing the sweet and sexy, The Girls Next Door is a no-brainer. --Trinie Dalton

Funny, escapist show.......2007-07-18
This show is one of my absolute favorites. It is funny, addicting, and honestly, just all around good fun. The girls have quirky personalities that are relatable and fun. The show details some of the Mansion's parties and generally, just what it the Mansion is all about. Any reality television fan would enjoy this show.
it's like meeting an old friend.......2007-05-30
it's really funny spuntenous and glamours even though it shows the simple everyday life of the classic girls next door.
Girls Gone Mild.......2007-05-27
I expected a little more from this, but very tastefully done even for the Heff.
The Girls Next Door Rock!.......2007-05-21
I love these girls! They are so much fun and I love to watch the shows! A must have!
Great Show for Men and Women.......2007-05-15
One of the best fly-on-the-wall shows at the moment. Taking a peek, inside one of the most talked about mansions of all time, is a real eye opener. It is also interesting to see the relationship between Hef and the girls, which isn't anything like people expect. Worth a watch. Makes me laugh everytime I watch it. The girl's have a big following, of men and women alike, for a good reason. In fact I bought these for my girlfriend who is a massive fan.

Customer Reviews:
awesome workout!.......2007-09-17
i first did Bridget's workout when I saw it on my HDTV menu under previews. I was sweating like crazy and the next day my legs were killing me! I did it 2 times a day until HDTV took the preview away, then i had to come to amazon and buy it! I really love Bridget's workout, it targets your "buns and gut" and in 15 minutes you really dont have time to get bored and it truly is a great workout. I love Hollys workout as well..it targets your buns and abs and also adds in a good arm workout (which you'll need weights for). I have watched Kendra's 15 minute exercize but have yet to do it, pretty much just because I dont have enough cordination..and space, for all the kicks and turns and dancing she does! Most days I will do Hollys exercize first and then follow it with Bridgets second, or I will do Bridgets 2 times in a row, depending on how my calfs are feeling from the day before! I love this DVD because even if you are as busy as I am, we all have 15 minutes to spare and that quick 15 minutes will leave you feeling great!
Great workout.......2007-09-11
This was a good workout, especially Holly and Bridgette's section. Bridgette's boot camp was my favorite because I like that style of workout and I just think she's the nicest most appreciative of the three girls. Holly's was a good light workout, for days when you can't get motivated, she admits she hates to exercise too...Kendra's dance segment was a little strange, but the kickboxing was okay. My husband and daughter almost died laughing when she started dancing though!
Great workout DVD!.......2007-09-06
I love The Girls Next Door and the workout DVD is great! The workouts are short 15 minute segments so even if you have little time during the day to workout if you squeeze one of these in you'll get an effective workout. Holly's workout is probably my favorite because she talks to you a lot while doing the workout and you kind of forget you're working out. They are really fun workouts too! I definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who is looking for a good & fun workout, or is just a fan of the girls.
best workout video i have (thus far).......2007-08-02
i love this workout video! it's great at toning, you need minimal equipment, and the instructors talk to you the whole time. Sure, they're a little plastic looking, and having slightly annoying voices, but that doesn't really matter. I feel the results the next day, even when stretching. probably not the best video for the advanced exerciser, but great if you're an immediate to beginner.
I LOVE IT SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!.......2007-07-22
This workout video is amazing!!! It works sooo well. It is so much fun and you feel a real connection with Holly, Bridget and Kendra.
Product Description
Two men enter a fast food place. The owner asks them about a mysterious matter. After some considerations, one of the two guys accepts to tell the story. Here starts a long flashback: the two men are in a terrace, next to a lake, and one is telling the other a story. A woman sits at a table nearby. Later the same woman is kidnapped. When the blindfold is removed, a woman welcomes her. After a relaxing massage, she is accompanied by 6 women, into a stage, in front of masked men, and women of all kinds. A speaker explains that the woman will be pleased, by all means. The 6 women first, and later some men make love to her, while the audience progressively move into a orgy. This is the end of the flashback. The owner of the fast food place asks what happened after that time, but the men refuse to tell...

Old time Erotica.......2007-07-09
Good old time erotica. If you were too young to remember this it is interesting to watch. Film quality is average. Editing is below average but the Mitchell brothers were likely stoned when they made it.
If you always wanted to see the Ivory Snow girl get it on........go for it.
Classic Porn.......2007-05-10
Despite some weaknesses (poor lighting and sound at times, makeup of the club's audience) this rates as one of the great porn flicks, entirely because of the beautiful Marilyn Chambers and her fantastic performance. Her arousal and orgasms are totally realistic, she is incredible. I believe she was 19 at the time.
Classic (synopsis).......2007-01-22
Marilyn Chambers undeniably changed the face of the adult film industry and here she stars in the classic ground-breaking ingenue role (her first!). A young woman is captured, ministered to and then licked into calm complacence by robed female attendants during a high-class, theatrical orgy staged for a black-tie audience. Brought to the screen by the innovative talents of the Mitchell Brothers, the viewer is taken on a cinematic journey into the sublime...

While it suffered a nearly unanimous beating from critics, The Girl Next Door attracted more than a few loyal defenders during its brief box-office lifespan. It pales when compared to its teen-comedy role model (the 1983 classic Risky Business), but you've got to admit that any movie about a teenager whose new next-door neighbor is a 19-year-old former porn star has bona fide cult-movie potential. To its credit, this rather schizoid blend of sleaze and comedy boasts an engaging pair of costars in Emile Hirsch (as the smitten, voyeuristic virgin) and 24's Elisha Cuthbert (as his sexy new house-sitting neighbor). And there are some good laughs in a script that takes unexpected turns when we learn that Cuthbert's character is trying to leave her porn-star past behind, to the chagrin of her pimp-like producer (Timothy Olyphant, in a scene-stealing role). Faring somewhat better than he did with the Rob Schneider non-comedy The Animal, director Luke Greenfield clearly recalls the turbulence that goes hand-in-hand with being young, horny, and confused. There's honesty and even (dare we say it?) maturity to be found in this raging-hormone fantasy, even if it's partially buried in a convoluted plot that's appalling or appealing, depending on your tolerance for good-natured prurience. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Eighteen-year-old Matthew Kidman (Emile Hirsch) is a straight-laced overachiever who has never really lived life - until he falls for his hot new neighbor (Elisha Cuthbert). When Matthew discovers his perfect "girl next door" is a former porn star, his sheltered existence spins out of control. It's "Risky Business" meets "American Pie" (Premiere Radio Networks) in this "titillating, laugh-out-loud funny comedy!" (US Weekly)
Customer Reviews:
Great flick.......2007-07-25
This movie is full of surprises. There is really never a dull moment, little bit of T and A in this. You might want to curl up to your significant other and have a laugh, sure worth the 90 minutes..
Darker than I expected.......2007-06-15
When I picked up this movie, I was thinking it was going to a smutty comedy along the lines of American Pie / Risky Business / Porky's. It turned out to be a bit darker than I expected, with some not so funny parts and some downright grim realities coupled in with it.
Matt is a stereotypical "nice guy" who has an ordinary high school career, not very popular, not very exciting, and a bit on the dull side. One day, a beautiful girl moves in next door and he is smitten. Much to his surprise, he discovers Danielle is a 19 year old former adult film star. That is, she's every horny teenage boy's dream come true. She's running away from the life, and doesn't want anything to do with it anymore. But she's being stalked by ghosts from the past, her manager is looking to make his investment back and he'll stop at nothing to get her back into his movies. Soon he and his friends propose making their own movie to pay him off once and for all, and even offer some of the other popular boys to be in it. They get many offers, and suddenly things are looking up for Matt.
What a movie like this says about our culture cannot possibly be summed up in a review like this. There are so many layers to this. The porn industry, while it seems exciting and glamourous on the outside, is really a horrifying place where women are mislead, abused, and intimidated into preforming. Danielle wants nothing else but to escape, and she's being stalked by the monsters who have lured her in. Matt sees her on one hand as his ultimate object of desire, and ends up falling for her. (Fiction!) Matt seems to be a nice guy, but he seems to hold this porn star girlfriend closer to him for the fact that she's a former porn star and not just "the girl next door".
Perhaps the most telling of events is when they are going to film the porn movie in the library of their school. When they talk the popular boys into doing it, they jump at the chance thinking that it will enhance their status. And the one who seems the biggest and strongest of them all can't preform. Stuck in the situation, Matt at first volonteers to be the one, but he can't do it. He loves Danielle too much to degrade her again. So his friend volonteers (the biggest laugh of the movie, when he appears on camera with the fencing mask on). And I had the best thought of the entire movie when he did that. I just thought "Wow, what a good friend". Perhaps that was the most noble thing of them all.
A Pleasant Surprise.......2007-05-30
I first rented this so that I would just kill some time. I was expecting a silly movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had to buy it. The acting is excellent and the ages of the actors is very close to the ages of the characters. This is a teenage movie for adults. It has its crazy moments, but in the end it's a love story.
I'm glad that it didn't do well at the box office. If it did, a sequel would been made.
Awesome Flick for fans of John Hughes and 80's Growing Up movies!.......2007-05-24
So one night when the wife was away i decided to bring some easy on the eyes, hollywood pap, home with me from the video store where i worked. I picked the girl next door based purely on the picture on the cover. I didn't want something too involving. I had seen the trailer some time before and it seemed to be an 'American Pie' kind of movie....
Well, i was wrong. I sat in amazement the whole length of the movie, dumbfounded that it was so good. SO GOOD!. It takes alot of it's influence from another of my favorites, Risky Business. It's not a remake and it's not a sequel. it's more of an homage. It's far better than if it were a remake. It really is just a joy to watch. I told my wife about it when she got back, and she kind of rolled her eyes and said 'yeah, okay, lets watch it'. An hour and a half later of staring, jaw dropped, at the screen, she turned to me and said just one word: "GENIUS!"
Really, it's up there with Risky Business and Ferris Buellers Day Off. It's a movie about growing up that we can all relate to. This is the kind of movie that changes a persons perspective on life. Amazing cast. Amazing SoundTrack! All over, great film!
The politically correct girl next door........2007-04-23
This movie never gets off the ground, due to "political correctness", i did see it's potential wasted in almost every scene.every scene had the chance to become outragesly funny but never takes off. theres almost no nudity, none by the female lead at all, all punchline and no joke with this movie. typical politically correct movie for these days.

Nice concept, shaky execution--that about sums up the mixed blessings of British actor Peter Howitt's intelligent but forgivably flawed debut as a writer-director. It's got more emotional depth than most frothy romantic comedies, and its central idea--the parallel tracking of two possible destinies for a young London professional played by Gwyneth Paltrow--is full of involving possibilities. It's essentially a what-if scenario with Helen (Paltrow) at the center of two slightly but significantly different romantic trajectories, one involving her two-timing boyfriend (John Lynch) and the other with an amiable chap (John Hannah) who represents a happier outcome. That's the film's basic problem, however: The two scenarios are so romantically imbalanced (one guy's a total cad, the other charmingly sincere) that Helen inadvertently comes off looking foolish and needlessly confused. Still, this remains a pleasant experiment, and Howitt's dialogue is witty enough to keep things entertaining. It's also a treat for Paltrow fans; not only does the svelte actress handle a British accent without embarrassing herself, but she gets to play two subtle variations of the same character, sporting different wardrobes and hairstyles in a role that plays into her glamorous off-screen persona. --Jeff Shannon

I love this movie.......2007-08-31
I will not tell you about this movie, except that you should own it. Did you ever think, what if I, or what if this had happened? That is what this movie is about, total fate, and destiny.
Intrigueing Idea .......2007-08-25
Do you find yourself saying "What if?" a lot? Then this is the movie for you! Worry Warts and People Pleasers gather here.
Sliding Doors captivates a lot of interesting ideas and explores the complexties of our choices and their outcome. Who of us hasn't wondered if we did this or that differently how it would affect the outcome of an event.
When this movie came out there was a People magazine frenzy because Paltrow cut her long blonde locks in a 'do' similar to her then fiance Brad Pitt.
Not sure if the movie got as much attention as the haircut. However I recommend this movie, because the story is complex and interesting.
It couldn't hurt to check it out, see what you think, you may be surprised.
Must watch for schitzophrenia.......2007-08-16
Very good movie to really drive home what pigs men are! If you need to see a schitzo in action, watch this! It could have detailed more of the pondscum actions that men can't help but do. But you get the idea from this one! Great girls night movie ~ Katy
Deep.......2007-08-04
This is one of the movies that makes you think that they are indeed no coincidences in life and that everything happens for a reason. It also shows us that no matter which road we choose to take, in the end, we will end up exactly where or who we are supposed to be with.
I first saw it when a friend recommended it to me several years ago and it stuck with me. Finally, 5 years later, I saw the DVD on-sale and bought it to watch it again. After finishing it, I thought about life again and all it's infinite possibilities of the what if's.
I know it's a movie, but there are some parallel truth even to our universe. This movie is comedic, yet profound. Like Robert Frost's "The Road Less Traveled" - I chose the latter, and it has made all the difference.
Do you ever wonder, what if?.......2007-07-23
This was a great movie showing two alternate stories on the same subject. I think this was very cleverly done. This is a very good movie.

If you are a new or original fan of the Doors, this spectacular DVD should give you enough incentive to jump on the DVD bandwagon without reservation. It's quite simply the finest single audio-visual source of Doors music and history, presented with the full participation of the band's surviving members (Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger, John Densmore) and featuring a variety of bonus features that will send any Doors-phile into a state of rock & roll euphoria. We're not kidding, folks--this is a must-have disc for anyone who's ever been mesmerized by Jim Morrison and the late-1960s, early-'70s rock phenomenon known as the Doors.
The primary content consists of three acclaimed films, all running about an hour long and directed by Manzarek, that give the viewer a deeper appreciation of what the Doors were all about. Not only was the band filmed in a variety of live concert settings (especially at the legendary Hollywood Bowl show, included here), but they were also precociously aware of the value of film, creating music "videos" long before MTV and taking their cue from Manzarek's mid-'60s stint as a UCLA film student. Also included are clips from several TV appearances (including a PBS interview in which Morrison predicts the future of recording technology with astounding accuracy), revealing backstage footage, and, of course, some of the most hypnotic concert performances ever filmed.
Two of Manzarek's student films (Evergreen and Induction) indicate that the keyboardist could easily have become a successful director, but fate blessed him (and us) with a future in one of America's all-time greatest rock bands. What The Doors Collection conveys more than anything is that these four young men formed a unique cohesion of talent, that they all loved and admired Jim Morrison (and still do), and that they continue to share that love--along with some conflicting recollections and amiably contrasting opinions--on a commentary track that's wise, fun-loving, and refreshingly free of drippy nostalgia. Indeed, when Manzarek uses the word "atrocious" to describe Oliver Stone's 1991 film about Morrison and the band, he's merely defending the fact that Morrison was himself a sweet, lovable young man who had a dark side--no one's denying that--but who also fronted a band that continues to unite listeners and viewers in the positive spirit of creativity and freedom of expression. --Jeff Shannon

Las puertas se abren en 3 DVDS.......2007-09-17
Esta coleccion de DVD ( que en realidad es uno) contiene sus 3 más producidos videos. The Soft Parade, Dance on Fire y Live at the Hollywood Bowl.

MEMORIES.......2007-03-22
I have this DVD and consider one of the best I own.
I am soooooo glad I have it now. I am of the age that actually got to
enjoy the Doors in the 60"s. It actually brings tears to my eyes along with much joy.
It brings back so many wonderful memories of their music
in those days all over the radio. Jim Morrison was such a big talent.
This DVD with the other band members gives you the real look of the doors, especially Jim Morrison.
The man was such a great talent. It shows that he had a sense of humor,
he was a poet, a song writer, an author, and a very kind man.
I wanted some real footage and concert material, not make believe as
the movie was. The movie was such an insult to Jim Morrison's memory.
I recommend any genuine Doors Fan to own this DVD, you will be glad you do.
Not what I expected, but still pretty dang good.......2007-03-18
I wanted to see more live Doors than this DVD has, but theres a lot of MTV/VH1 style music videos on here. Studio songs with video dubbed on. Bummed me out. But still there is plenty of great live video of the Doors on here I have never seen, and I've been a Doors freak since about 1969. May as well get this and enjoy it since theres not really anything else out there in terms of live documentary concert footage.

Thanks in large part to its meticulous re-creation of the late-1960s and early-'70s rock scene and the uncannily authentic performance by Val Kilmer as legendary Doors frontman Jim Morrison, Oliver Stone's hypnotic film biography is standing the test of time. Capturing the carefree mood of the Age of Aquarius, the film charts the meteoric rise of the Doors on the California club circuit (including a memorable scene showing the creation of the hit "Light My Fire"), and chronicles the band's exploits with hallucinogenics and Morrison's battles against charges of public indecency on stage. Kilmer's performance is hauntingly perfect, and performances by Meg Ryan, Kathleen Quinlan, and Kyle MacLachlan are similarly impressive. The movie doesn't fully probe the depths of Morrison's character, but as a portrait of excess it is vividly true to the spirit of the self-destructive poet known to his fans as "The Lizard King." --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
The only good thing about this movie is the soundtrack.......2007-08-25
I have watched other Oliver Stone movies before and liked them. I don't know what he or anyone else was thinking when they made this movie. It was a mess. Maybe I need to be drunk or stoned to appreciate it.
This movie was very poorly written. I agree with an earlier reviewer that it makes Jim Morrison look like a drunken jerk. It was either way too long or way too slow. Either way, it did not hold my interest. Meg Ryan was a doll in other movies of hers. But in here? She just could not live up to the material. She was definitely a poor casting choice in this movie.
If you like The Doors, I am sure that there are better choices out there than this garbage.
Movie was kinda fun and interesting, but..........2007-08-09
...its still just a movie. and i dont feel this portrays Jim Morrison accuratly enuff or deep enuff. But it shows the side that most people percieve i think, and it isnt a bad movie, just should be watched in fun...if you really wanna know this band, get their albums, read jims poetry and maybe find a good biography book of him.
This movie has been critised on here for being more about Jim than about the rest of the band as a whole, but thats becouse again, its portraying the casual listeners perception of the band...they only like Jim Morrison, cuz he looks sexy and the music was cool....and those other guys just happened to be in the band....and the movie is conscious of this and theres scenes where people try to exploit Jim and tell him to lose the other guys. And even a photographer tells Jim that its all about him, that everyone just loves him, that hes the doors.
So its not like the movie is decieved and lieing to us, its just showing the more so the MYTH that was Morrison...not the man, who is far more interesting to me than the whats shown in this film.
This movie didnt ruin or spoil my outlook on the band or Jim Morrison.
Ive grown up hearing and respecting the doors and know what very well done music theyve produced besides radio hits, so my appreciation isnt clouded by this little film.
I think its fun to watch. I dont know if i will ever watch it again, but it just makes me wanna delve into who Jim really was and into The Doors music even more, cuz i know they were far more than this mere movie, which still pays ok tribute to the band and the singer.
This movie still doesnt quench a thirst or curb my appetite for learning more about the Doors and Morrison, its more like a little appetiser, if anything.
I wouldnt watch this movie as if it were a documentary...it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. It doesnt possiably sum up what the Doors were as a band, or who Jim was , as a man.
Again...it has fun portraying the MYTH.... not the man, or should i say, men. Cuz all the guys in the band made this movie possiable. Jim alone, wouldnt of amounted to anything i dont think, without the other gifted musicians he was privied to have met.
I like how ya get to see Jim first starting out, and meeting his future girlfriend Pam and his future band mates.... its nothing all that deep, how it unfolds, but its kinda interesting.
Its more so a movie for casual listeners of the Doors, or for fans that just wanna take a pretend look out how it might of been in the life of Jim and the other Doors members, just to see the story come to life in some way.
Val Kilmer does a decent job playing Jim i think, but he only nails that mythic "rock God" thing...i wish the movie showed more of his comtemplative thoughtfull side, but it scratches the surface i think. But for a hollywood movie, what do you expect...they still did a good job keeping it entertaining for mass appeal and creating a cool little tribute to the man and band.
Again, this is not the best example of learning or appreciating The Doors, let alone their singer...but its kinda fun and interesting.
What the hell is this?.......2007-05-01
I'm a huge Doors fan(there my favorite band), but this thing is horrible. They make Morrision look like a drunk jerk with a beer bottle in one hand and a microphone in the other. I know sometimes he was like that, but that wasen't all of him. He had a great sense of humor and he was a really smart guy(his IQ was 149 in high school). I've heard the other Doors members talk about this movie and they hate it. This is not the true story. This is the way Oliver Stone saw it. This movie just got me mad.
Good movie but not a balanced story.......2007-04-22
It kind of reminded me of "Sid and Nancy" (Jim and Pam?), where a lot of liberties were taken to keep the story interesting, and mixed characters up, and the truth is in the music.
Ray Manzarek said in an interview that the Miami incident cost his father a promotion, even though Doors money continues to roll in to a father he considered "dead". Jim's background before he became famous to me is more interesting, what led up to the Lizard King that started as a chubby Navy brat. You can also go on You Tube and see some of the projects like "Hwy" he worked on (should be on video, as should "Feast of Friends").
"No One Here Gets Out Alive" was where a lot of the story comes from but a lot is left out.
As a movie, the music propels it, Morrison's poetry, and Val Kilmer really gets deep into it, definitely one of his most memorable roles, if not THE most. Irony that he was a Navy pilot in "Top Gun" and was the rebel son of a Navy Admiral in this?
The members of The Doors all wrote books all worth checking out.
Val Kilmer at his best.......2007-03-28
Great movie and performances from all. Not sure why he didn't get a nomination.. must have to any collection
