In the company of a woman (Laura San Giacomo) abused by that same baron, Quigley gets his strength and his shooting skills back while healing in the midst of aboriginal people as well as some stunning Australian settings. A classic yet, nontypical western favorite........2007-08-30

This is a story of Quigley going to Australia to what he thinks is a job opportunity shooting dingos off a ranchers land, because he's possibly the best marksman in the world. Upon arriving to the ranch, he realizes he's actually been employed to kill the native aborigional people. In a not so polite way, his right hand refuses the job, is beaten by henchmen, and left in the outback to die with some hot but very crazy gal. He is then saved by the very native people he was hired to erradicate, and decides to make his way back to the ranch to stop the rancher and his goons from killing innocent people further. But the real gem of the movie lies in the way this simple story is told, the sound of his rifle, and the great dialogue comming from Tom Sellecks perfect performance.
I've watched this movie about 10 times. I know what's going to happen every minute of it. But somehow, I can't seem to grow tired of it. I love the look, the dialogue, the hero, the villains, that damn rifle/cannon he packs around, and Tom Selleck Blasting bad guys away from the next county with said rifle.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, you could be missing out on one of the greatest, yet nontypical westerns of all time in my opinion. I recommend watching this movie with a stereo that has a decent subwoofer, that way the crack and boom of the Sharps rifle he fires off throughout can be appreciated fully.

Very Different.......2007-08-15

If you like westerns but are tired of the same old story lines you should check this out. It's very funny and adults will enjoy it but it would be fine for kids to view too. Enjoy!

Not the correct region for DVD players.......2007-07-03

DVD arrived promptly and in good order, however, due to Australia being in the Oceania region our DVD players cannot play US type DVDs. Amazon did warn me that this was a possibility - however, no option was given by Amazon to choose a DVD for this region - Oceania. I am stuck with a DVD I cannot watch

Two of My Favorite Stars.......2007-05-07

Classic Western in a new setting. The stoic cowboy and the damsel in distress Down Under. It is always a good evening when watching the interactions of the cowboy and the 'crazy lady'.

From the beginning when he rescues her and she 'latches onto him' as her protector, right to the end when she.... Well... that would be telling.

It has all the right mixtures, The Good Guy, The Surprisingly Tough Damsel, and The Overstated Evil Cattle Baron, all in the wilds of old Australia. Good Stuff!

My husband's favorite movie, there's nothing in the world like a Cubs fan, and this movie personify's the true meaning of a die hard fan. Great comedy for the entire family.

Best Waste of a Sunday Afternoon.......2006-05-11

The statement, "He wins a couple of baseball tickets by calling a radio quiz show," misleads the viewer from the best part about this film. He wins Cubs World Series tickets! Therefore, this should be a must see for any Cubs fan! There is also a cameo by one of the Cubs' greats and, not suprisingly, he has a major impact on the film. If there is a better movie about a guy breaking out of prison to see the Cubs in the World Series...I haven't seen it.

An oh-so-black comedy.......2007-05-04

I purchased this because of the rave reviews on Amazon and because I loved Aykbourn's brilliant The Norman Conquests. But this film, while it has its moments, is a studiously black comedy that doesn't come off. It works too hard at being completely off the wall, and ultimately disappoints. It's just mayhem, designed to draw laughs. Well, it does, but only occasionally. (Imagine playing Count Basie at the expiration of a villain. That's Mel Brooks country.) Yes, Helena Bonham Carter is an excellent actress. But it's all so contrived, complete with a wink at the camera at the end. Save your money.

Strangers on a Bridge.......2005-12-02

As the story begins, Henry (Sam Neill) has lost his job to an unscrupulous co-worker, and has decided to end it all by jumping off Tower Bridge. There he meets eccentric Karen (Helena Bonham Carter) who has just bungled her own suicide attempt (her lover went back to his wife). They start talking about how much they wish their enemies were dead and Karen gleefully suggests they each do the job for the other. Henry assumes she's kidding, of course, but the next morning he finds Karen has gone ahead with the plan.

If you think this plot sounds a lot like Hitchcock's thriller, "Strangers on a Train," you're right. The difference is this one's played for big laughs with dark humor that I really enjoyed. Neill is very good as the innocent man who gets caught up in the wacky plot hatched by Bonham Carter's character. She steals the show with her outrageous cheekiness. Kristin Scott Thomas is the lover's haughty wife, and no one plays the disdainful aristocrat better than she does. Comic actor Steve Coogan is hysterical as Henry's nemesis. If you like British comedies, you'll love "Sweet Revenge;" it's fast, funny, and loaded with droll upper-class humor. Excellent!

I generally enjoy British comedies and prefer a good, thoughtful snicker over slapstick fun. When I watched this, I wanted to like it. And when I read the reviews after watching it, I'm really trying to like it. But I can't entirely agree with the other reviews...not because they're wrong, just my taste differs.

I feel like the movie had so many great elements (including as others have said some excellent acting) and could have been truly hilarious, but it just went a little off kilter somewhere and couldn't quite stay on track. Just as you warmed up to one element, something else would spoil the moment.

My initial reaction was "what a crazy movie!" Karen appears to be a complete maniac and Henry is extremely slow to catch on in some ways (i.e., he realizes Karen is quite dangerous from the start but doesn't seem to have any other way of dealing with her than really unitelligent honesty). The brother Oliver is great and there are a lot of small scenes that the film does quite well (when the kippers cause an embarassing stain, the way the young maid Norma is treated, etc).

But I disagree that Imogen was affected and arrogant. She responded to the view of Karen (her husband's former mistress) with the cold fury of someone attempting to maintain composure in the face of great strain. If a spouse brought me to an outing with their former "lover", I'd be pretty mad too. Her first comment to Henry is indicative of her frustration and she says it without thinking.

But how would anyone like Karen or Imogen find Anthony appealing? I found it farfetched how quickly Imogen fell for Henry and vice versa, upon their second meeting he tries to kiss her. And it seems unlikely that someone who suffered from frequent asthma would not carry their ventilator in their pocket (but maybe I am uninformed on this score).

Towards the end, it began lacking a feeling of cohesion and felt more like random funny moments appended to each other. The ending didn't feel like you arrived at a destination, more like it just stopped somewhere when we ran out of time and patched on a quick finish. Anyway, some people liked this so it's definitely got a following, just didn't appeal to me. Maybe it will grow on me in time.

I loved every second of this film. I can't imagine how anyone could not like it. It's funny, full of talented actors esp Sam Neill. Thoroughly entertaining!! A great buy.

BONHAM CARTER & NEILL????.......2001-06-27

This is a true waste of talent! Talk about horrible flicks, this is a prime example! The only reason why I even BOTHERED to finish watching this film is because of the excellent acting of Bonham Carter and Neill. A complete no brainer comedy about the extremes in revenge. Good sleeping pill.

Sorry to say but the previous reviewer was correct. This really is one of the worst films ever made. I can't catalogue everything which is wrong with this but believe me it has no redeeming factors.

A real pity after quite enjoying "Gang of Roses", another "new wave" urban western. On this one however - save your money.

we rented this out along with Gunslingers Revenge and Brothers in Arms, all "B" movies, we stopped watching Ride Sweet Die Slow after 10 minutes, the acting was horrible, the story was undecipherable, and the actual film quality was poor.

I have piranhas and there was not a misfit piece of info in this entire documentory. Take it from a 13 year old piranha expert with three of his own, this is the best sorce for piranha info on all spieces.

basically this movie is a one hour documentary that looks like one of those shows you would see on the discovery channel or maybe in high school biology class. its not bad, but its not great. nothing suprised me in it. its scenes of the jungle while a narrator says something every few moments or so. if you think this video is something out of a horror film where the piranhas kill everything in sight then you will be disappointed. they only eat a catfish alive, everything else is already dead. if you own piranhas,like me, and can appreciate them, then buy this video. but if your just a regular person and want to see piranhas kill things then i wouldn't. the finish it up, this slow pace film is average and i think the producers got most of the footage by recording clips off the learning channel or maybe even animal planet with the crocodile hunter.

Good Video, Piranha as seen in the wild.......2000-01-19

This video was pritty good.It shows Piranha as they are in Brazil. I found this video worth the money. There are a few dry spots when they are talking about other animals, like birds and such. If you are interested in learning more about Piranha, this video is for you. This video is only for the Piranha lovers who appriciate them, and respect them.

I first saw this movie on the shelf and looking at the cast, felt that it would be an engaging event. Sorry to say, the copy looked like it was copied on a $ cheap machine, so the sound is barely audible at times and it winds up and down like a Godzilla horror festival. Sad to say that I will take this movie back to the store for a refund and write the distributor to let them know.. Good idea, bad copy....

STANDARD TV MOVIE FARE.......2005-09-05

SWEET REVENGE is a talky yet involving made for tv movie from the mid-80s. Kevin Dobson (Knots Landing) is cast against type as an opportunistic womanizing major who gets a young Helen Hunt pregnant and arranges for an abortion. When Hunt dies as a result, he shifts the blame to an earnest young soldier (Merritt Butrick) who comes to a tragic end. 14 years later we meet Butrick's sister (a young and engaging Kelly McGillis) who falls for Alec Baldwin, who just happens to be in Dobson's command. McGillis plans revenge on Dobson but when plans go awry, she must confront him from a different angle. Hindered by an amateurish transfer, the movie suffers from its datedness, but with its tight plot and some convincing acting, it manages to be mildly provocative entertainment.

Bridgette Wilson (AKA Mrs. Pete Sampras) stars as Jenny Clark, a woman with many problems. At a young age her parents died and we also learn she was abused by her foster parents. She becomes the Surrogate Mother to Mike and Naomi. My inital feeling was she just wanted the baby but it turns out something else is driving her to be Evil, perhaps it was a past dealing with Mike or Naomi?
