5 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever.......2007-09-09

This is the most beautiful movie. It is so moving and profound. Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe are such amazing characters as well as the others.A true classic!

5 out of 5 stars It's about time!.......2007-09-07

I was SO happy to see this on DVD!!!! I've not watched it for years because I no longer have a VCR that works well. It's like I remembered and I'm in love with it all over again! The extras are GREAT!!!! The package came VERY quickly and in excellent condition! Thanks again for another great buying experience, Amazon!!!

5 out of 5 stars Every little girl should see these movies!.......2007-09-05

I have loved this story my whole life! My mom read me the books when I was younger and then taped the trilogy on the PBS specail when I was younger. I loved it so much and I have since lost the recordings so I purchesed them on DVD. I'm letting a friend of mines daughter who is 9 borrow them right now. She is the same age I was the first time I watched them.

5 out of 5 stars Magical journey into the Past.......2007-08-27

There is nothing not to like about this trilogy. The characters are charming and so dimensional that it's like being there. I vascillated between laughter and tears and the only part of the film that I didn't like was the fact that I wanted it to go on forever and of course, like all good stories, it had to end eventually. I have lent out the DVDs to several friends and they all had the same reaction that I did. I highly recommend this trilogy to people of all ages for a magical journey into the past.

5 out of 5 stars A Must For The DVD Library.......2007-08-17

This is a classic. My husband hates movies like this one, however, he fell in love with Anne with an "E". This is a treasure that will be kept and enjoyed in our DVD Library.

This gorgeous adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story is well worth watching with the whole family. Produced for Canadian television, it's one of those rare productions that actually sticks to the book and even enhances it through first-rate performances and an excellent script. Set on bucolic Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century, Anne of Green Gables is the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong orphan. When brother and sister Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help Matthew work the farm, they are astonished when Anne arrives at the train station by mistake. "What use is she to us?" grumbles the gruff Marilla. "We might be of some use to her," answers Matthew, who has taken an instant liking to the talkative Anne. As Anne grows up, her adventures are both hilarious and moving. It's a delight to watch as she forms a friendship with the beautiful Diana and her admirer--the dashing Gilbert Blythe--then dyes her hair green, cracks a slate over Gilbert's head when he calls her "Carrots," and finds a sympathetic teacher who encourages her to attend college.

Richard Farnsworth is perfect as the shy and gentle bachelor Matthew, who confides to Anne that he never went courting because "I would have had to say something." Colleen Dewhurst delivers a nuanced and powerful performance as Marilla, a seemingly cold-hearted spinster whose no-nonsense exterior conceals a warm heart. And as Anne, Megan Follows strikes the perfect note, maturing from freckle-faced orphan to elegant and poised young woman. --Elisabeth Keating

Solid story that teaches many important lessons. It's not just a movie for young girls. Richard Farnsworth was one of the best!

5 out of 5 stars A great experience.......2007-09-05

I love Anne of Green Gables and I ordered it off of Amazon with no problems. It arrived in the mail a week later. Perfect!

5 out of 5 stars Anne of Green Gables.......2007-09-02

Again I bought this DVD for my wife. I had given her Anne of Green Gables The Sequel several years ago and she had tried to find the original story of Anne of Green Gables but could not find it in local stores where we live. She loved it so much that after watching it she watched the sequel again and has now ordered the Continuing Story of Anne of Green Gables. It is nice to know there are still some nice, clean movies out there that have a good story and can entertain you without listening to vulgar language and watching violence.

1 out of 5 stars oh, lordy..........2007-08-27

This simpering little twit plodding her way through this series should be used as forced-viewing punishment for people who take organized sports too seriously. I suffered through an hour of this with my wife and I wished she's fall down a well and not come out. Or fall off a horse-drawn carriage that's going at full speed. Or, well, you get the idea.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful, intelligent and delightfully entertaining..............2007-08-26

This great 1985 production gloriously brings the characters from the "Anne" series, written by Canadian writer Lucy Maude Montgomery, to life. I remember well watching (and reading) this story as a small child. It was magical, then, and it remains so more than twenty years later. Anne (Megan Follows) is a lively and strong-willed orphan adopted by Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst) and Matthew (Richard Farnsworth) Cuthbert, siblings in need of a helper on their farm. Originally, they had expected to adopt a boy, but fate has other plans for them. Anne proves to be just what they needed. She brings them her youth, indomitable spirit and flare for getting into mischief. Along the way, Anne meets and befriends neighbor and classmate Diana Berry (Schuyler Grant) and butts heads with "would be" suitor Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie). Anne's slew of adventures and misadventures are a lot of fun to watch (especially an instance where she attempts to die her red hair auburn--turning it green instead!).

The strength of this wonderful film is in the engaging acting, warm direction from Kevin Sullivan and the luscious photography. You really feel like you have been transported to St. Edward Island in Canada, in the early 1900s. You'll laugh, you'll feel the pangs and poignance of Anne's trials and tribulations and you will absolutely lose yourself in the story.

This video is the sequel to the beloved children's book and video Anne of Green Gables. It continues the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong young orphan in 1890s Canada, whose hot temper matches her red hair. Anne of Green Gables told of Anne's adoption by an elderly brother and sister, Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst) and Matthew Cuthbert, and her childhood adventures in the idyllic village of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. Anne of Avonlea takes up the story soon after Matthew's death, when Anne has graduated from college. It follows her struggles and adventures as an aspiring writer and English teacher in a private school on the mainland. Girls seven and older, as well as adults, will enjoy this intelligent and beautifully made film, first shown on PBS. It's filled with themes parents can discuss with their daughters--including self-reliance, generosity, and perseverance. It also gives a realistic portrayal of the situation for women during this historical period, through characters that are multifaceted and human. Anne's struggle to find her voice as a writer, to handle difficult people maturely, to stay optimistic despite setbacks, and to nurture her students are both thought provoking and entertaining. Girls will also enjoy Anne's romantic travails, as she tries to decide between two suitors: her childhood friend Gilbert, and a rich, handsome, and mysterious widower. The film is beautifully filmed, and the costumes and settings portray an idyllic time and place. The cast is excellent. Megan Follows as the spirited Anne and Dewhurst as the gruff but tender Marilla give especially fine performances. --Elisabeth Keating

5 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE.......2007-09-10

Anne of Green Gables, The Sequel and The Continuing story is a trilogy that all families should have in their DVD library. The music alone brings you into the story of an orphan girl who touches the lives of many and without ever complaining where she has come from, she steams her way forward and accomplishes what she wills. It also has romance as well. It teaches one how not to stay bitter and how love conquers all. Producers and Directors of today should know that it doesn't take sex and foul language to produce such fine material to scope the imagination. :)

5 out of 5 stars a strong and engaging sequel............2007-08-27

This is the continuing story of Anne of Green Gables (Megan Follows) and proves to be a very strong sequel to the original film. This time, Anne is a little older and has aspirations to become a teacher, as well as a writer. This takes her away from Avonlea, in St. Edwards Island, to teach at an all girls preparatory school. She encounters snobbery as well as a handsome and influential widowed father (Frank Converse) of one of her pupils, and must deal with a very crotchety and almost sinister headmistress (Marilyn Lightstone). A more grown-up Anne must martial her strength, as well as her patience, in some very trying situations. All the while, keeping close to her heart the dear family and friends she left behind.

Megan Follows is radiant, cast as the title character. She skillfully and sensitively portrays a more mature Anne with spunk and grace. The supporting cast is wonderful, here, too, which features the legendary Dame Wendy Hiller as the cold, unfeeling and domineering old grandmother of one of Anne's students. This is a great family that viewers, young and old, can enjoy together. This is truly a wonderful film.

5 out of 5 stars Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel.......2007-08-06

DVD in great shape - Megan Follows makes this story worth viewing again and again.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent family movie.......2007-07-14

Makes me want to move to Prince Edwards Island. A movie worth watching often. A movie with good family values.

4 out of 5 stars not as good as the first.......2007-06-01

In a departure from L.M. Montgomery's book series, this third TV movie jumps ahead to World War I and puts Anne and her beloved Gilbert smack in the middle of it. Instead of marrying Gilbert after her teaching days--as she does in the books--Anne spends a disillusioning year with him in New York City, and then the couple quickly marries before the good doctor ships out to France. (In the book Rilla of Ingleside, Anne's sons go to war and her youngest daughter is separated from her sweetheart.) Impetuous as ever, Anne joins the Red Cross and crosses the pond to track down her husband when his letters are returned unread. What follows is an adventure that takes her through battle zones--where the bodies pile up faster than you can say Saving Private Ryan--and on to London with a half-orphaned baby, her best friend's injured husband, and a tangle of international intrigue. Fans of the 10-book series may balk at the divergences and the fact that very little time is spent on Prince Edward Island. But the book's unrestrained romanticism and unapologetic sentimentality remain intact, as well as the surviving cast of the prior two movies, most notably Megan Follows as Anne and Jonathan Crombie as Gilbert. This movie, produced in 2000, clocks in at 185 minutes and is suitable for ages 9 and older. --Kimberly Heinrichs

I completely enjoyed this but I seemed to have missed out on the years
from when Gil and Anne found love and the start of the war.

1 out of 5 stars Quite a Disappointment.......2007-09-10

I LOVE the Anne of Green Gables series, I own Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea on DVD and I cherish them both. I watched The Continuing Story when it first aired on television and I was heart-broken. It strays from the books, and it felt like such a departure from the other two stories. Even the actors reprising their roles didn't quite fit. I was so sad! I wanted to love it as completely as the first two stories, but I kept getting distracted by Anne's now raspy voice, as if she has smoked quite a few more cigarettes than she should, and by Gil's sickly appearance. I really worry for his health and lifestyle! I recommend buying the first two movies in the series without hesitation, but skip The Continuing Story for sure!

From the producer of "Anne of Green Gables":

"Family programming filled with warmth and charm...." - LOS ANGELES TIMES

This 4-Disc DVD Boxset is the complete third season of "Road to Avonlea" / "Avonlea" (as shown on the Disney channel). Olivia's (Mag Ruffman) simple wedding plans get out of hand as Hetty (Jackie Burroughs) takes over and manages to alienate everyone in the family including Sara (Sarah Polley). Felix's (Zachary Bennett) humorous attempt at making money turns tragic as his horse, Blackie, dies in an accident. Avonlea hires an effervescent and charming new schoolteacher (Christopher Lloyd), whose unorthodox approach to teaching, inspires the children, but leaves the parents suspicious. Sara trades places with Jo Pitts, a street-smart waif who passes as Sara's double. However, as Sara leaves PEI for adventure, she only finds danger and mystery alongside Gus Pike (Michael Mahonen); while Felicity (Gema Zamprogna) lies about her family background in order to gain admission into a prestigious ladies college. On a sad note, this volume ends with the death of one of Avonlea's most beloved townsfolk, Marilla Cuthbert (Colleen Dewhurst); tying this episode into "Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel" and "Anne of Green Gables - The Continuing Story."

5 out of 5 stars ROAD TO AVONLEA THE 3 SEASON.......2007-05-15

GREAT MOVIE YOU JUST WANT TO CONTINUE SEE THE SERIE

5 out of 5 stars Charming........2007-04-06

Charming children and adults get into fun predicaments. If you liked "Little House on the Prairie" or "Anne of Green Gables"; you should like this. Seasons 1-6 are excellent.

Beautiful scenery, farm, horses, period costumes, with women in pretty dresses, period sets, realistic characters, likeable characters, lively pace, and inviting activities, take you to a nicer place.

Christopher Reeve, from the movie "Superman", guest-stars in a melodrama, mysterious but lively episode "A Dark and Stormy Night" (Writer-Hart Hanson). Another good episode is where Sarah and Felicity babysit their little nephew who is a little terror; the "Friends & Relations" episode. Usually an episode is able to focus on just a few of the characters with depth; but in this unique episode, many of the characters interact, at a lively pace. Very creative that the writer (Heather Conkie) was able to involve everyone with depth (and I wonder if it was planned or just happened with the plot). The episode "Vows of Silence" has a scene that is very funny, and another quietly funny/charming scene (Writer-Hart Hanson).

Disney spared no expense to create warm and humorous escapades.

This series has been my best money value; dividing the 13-episodes by the cost: $51÷13 episodes = $3.92 per 46-minute episode. Sells new in Canada for $80.

5 out of 5 stars great season for a great show!.......2004-05-05

Road to Avonlea is my all-time favourite television show, and I'm so pleased that it's becoming available on DVD. Season 3 is an excellent season, and in my opinion, one of the best. There is great character development as the children (especially Felicity) begin to grow up. We also get to see another side of Aunt Janet (other than as Alec's wife), as well as more episodes with Gus Pike. The focus is becoming less on Sara Stanley (although she is still a main character) and more on the rest of the King family.
My only complaint with this DVD is the lack of bonus features. I hope the next RtA DVD includes features such as cast interviews, behind-the-scenes, and bonus footage.

episodes on this DVD (I put a * next to my favourites):

*The Ties that Bind - Olivia and Jasper's wedding! very funny, and very touching

Felix and Blackie - Felix starts a delivery service with his horse, Blackie.

*Another Point of View - Aunt Hetty resigns from teaching Avonlea School, and she is replaced by Professor Dimple, who introduces the students to modern ways of learning.

When she was bad...she was horrid (2 parts) - Sara gets fed up with Aunt Hetty controlling her life, so she runs away and leaves a double (Jo Pitts) in her place.

Aunt Janet Rebels - Aunt Janet campaigns for women's rights to vote.

A Dark and Stormy Night - Gus gets a job at the White Sands hotel and falls for a mysterious guest.

5 out of 5 stars Kevin Sullivan brings another L. M. Montgomery novel to life.......2005-12-16

I was always rather surprised that when Kevin Sullivan decided to turn to another Lucy Maud Montgomery novel after doing the first four Anne of Green Gables novels in a couple of celebrated mini-series he turned to "Jane of Lantern Hill." I would have thought the "Emily of New Moon" trilogy would come up next (it is currently a Canadian television series) and would not have minded seeing "Magic for Marigold" adapted, but Sullivan selected "Jane of Lantern Hill" instead.

Montgomery's novel is distinct from all of the others because both of the heroine's parents are still living. However, Jane Stuart is an emotional orphan because her overbearing maternal grandmother (Zoe Caldwell) has psychologically battered Jane's mother, Robin (Patricia Phillips) into submission and the family has led Jane to believe her father is dead. However, Andrew Stuart (Sam Waterston) is not only alive, he is insisting on his parental rights and wants Jane sent to him on Prince Edward Island. Despite the chasm between them, father and daughter quickly bond, and Jane begins to question why her parents having been living apart. Meanwhile, Jane becomes involved with the spunky young vagrant, Jody Turner (Sarah Polley), and old Hepzibah (Colleen Dewhurst), the local "witch" lady.

The adaptation of Montgomery's novel by Fiona McHugh holds true to the emotional center of the story while collapsing the narrative's period of time and jettisoning most of the domesticity as well. Unfortunately this means that one of my favorite scenes from the novel, where Jane finally gets in the face of Grandmother Kennedy, is lost. The performances in the production are so wonderfully understated except for Polley, who pours it on thick with the accent, although Dewhurst does get to ham it up a little bit at Hepzibah. Bennett gives a quiet performance that speaks to the fragility of Jane's relationship with her family while Waterston exhibits a simple, natural charm from start to finish with his estranged daughter that cannot help but win her over. In the end, it is Jane's simple determination to set her world in order that brings all the plot threads together in a satisfactory conclusion. Fans of Montgomery and/or Sullivan will not be disappointed by this quiet little film.

Note: Young Mairon Bennett did the audiotape version of "Jane of Lantern Hill" and did an exceptional job. Given how restrained her performance necessarily was in the film to suit Jane's character, Bennett shows marvelous interpretative range for someone who, at the time, was so young. If you enjoyed the television movie and stumble across the audiotape, then make a point of picking it up so you can give it a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Another winner from Lucy Maud Montgomery and Kevin Sullivan (in that order) ;-).......2005-10-23

If you enjoy, the Anne of Green Gables Trilogy, you will wanna buy this hard to find dvd. This film was produced by the same people as Anne, written by the same author and shown here originally on PBS' Wonderworks and then The Disney Channel. Mairon Bennett plays Jane Stuart who has been living a sheltered life with her Grandmother and mother when her father "allegedly" died. When she learns he is still alive, she does everything she can with the help of a mystic (Colleen Dewhurst of Anne of Green Gables 1 and 2 fame) to reunite her family. Sam Waterston (The Great Gatsby [1974] and Law and Order (1994 to the present) is great as her long last father, and future star of the Road to Avonlea (just Avonlea here) Sarah Polley stars as a young tramplike jill of all trades named Jody who helps Jane in her quest. This is enjoyable piece of work that you may have to order from the manufacturer themselves (Sullivan Boutique: the online home of all Kevin Sullivan films) but I was lucky to get it in the mail from an Amazon "client" today. If you own the Annes, the Avonlea Series, or any of Kevin Sullivan's stuff on dvd, order it now before it gets away.

5 out of 5 stars Family movie.......2007-08-09

There are not enough family type movies out there in this day & time. This is a heart warming story that you can watch with your kids or grandkids and not be embaressed. I love the Avonlea families.

2 out of 5 stars Not like seasons 1-5.......2007-07-08

"Avonlea Christmas" is missing the wonderful charm of the six seasons of "Road to Avonlea". I have not seen season-7.

I highly recommend seasons 1-5 of "Road to Avonlea", season-6 is good, but does not reach the heights of the earlier seasons. The episodes are written by different writers. The focus of the "Avonlea Christmas" episode, is one dispute to the next, rather than predicaments for the characters to display their personalities, and their ultimate warmth. The little kids are grown, so the same arguments are no longer cute. This episode-writer was unfamiliar with the true personalities of the characters previously established in the mind of the audience. My favorite episode writers of the early seasons of "Avonlea", Heather Conkie, Suzette Couture, and Hart Hanson, who set a high standard for the series, did not write "Avonlea Christmas".

Has the same technical proficiency in costumes, lighting, and good morals; but something is missing. It is not the same. Likewise, the first two "Anne of Green Gables" movies were great, (with the script lifted from the books) but the third Anne movie, during World-War-I, was unsatisfying, as here, written by a different writer, taking us to a place we did not wish to go, with characters we do not know.

If you do not expect to continue "Road to Avonlea", and do not mind more conflict, then you may enjoy this. Will be as good as anything on TV, but with characters who are not their old selves.

Another good period series is "Christy the Complete Series".

4 out of 5 stars A Family Friendly movie at a Great Price.......2006-12-15

I loved watching the Anne of Green Gables movies when they came out in the 80's.
When Road to Avonlea series aired on Australian TV in the 90's. I again loved watching the program. When I found out that the series was now on DVD. I purchased all the seasons.
I found Avonlea Christmas on Amazon at a very good price $9.99. I puchased it without a second thought.
I found the movie very enjoyable to watch. It is a clean family friendly movie with family values.
These days it is hard to find a movie that can actually be called a family movie.
I would recommend this DVD to anyone who loved watching Anne of Green Gables.

3 out of 5 stars A rather disappointing reunion for the "Avonlea" cast.......2004-01-23

Think of having a "Friends" reunion with only four of the characters (your pick) and you get an idea of why fans of "Avonlea" (a.k.a. "Road to Avonlea") were less than thrilled with this 1998 television movie. The premise of "Happy Christmas, Miss King" is that the King family has gathered together during the First World War to celebrate Christmas, but word comes that Felix has been listed as missing in action in France. Other plot lines have Aunt Hetty (Jackie Burroughs) hurting her back, Aunt Olivia (Mag Ruffman) thinking of moving back to Avonlea, and Felicity (Gema Zamprogna) trying to find a new career. The problem is that which each of these last three plotlines each character is missing their key counterpart from the series: Sara Stanley, Jasper Dale, and Gus Pike respectively. The Story Girl and the two husbands appear in old footage, but that just emphasizes the fact that they should have been there.

The story is by Raymond Storey, although those who have read the entire Lucy Maud Montgomery canon will recognize the son missing in action bit from "Rilla of Ingleside," the last of the Anne of Green Gables books. In a sense, that novel becomes my basis for comparison as much as the original series, because that is the one book I have read that really gave me a sense for what the First World War was like for the people of Canada. The war went on for years before the United States entered and Montgomery really gave a sense of how long it was, whereas "Happy Christmas, Miss King" takes place during the holiday season. However, to be fair, this story is not as disappointing as the "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story," which finds Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe still not married during the war years. Too bad, because "Rilla of Ingleside" was one of Montgomery's better novels because of its treatment of what happened during that time.

It was nice to see familiar faces, such as Cedric Smith as Alec King, and Patricia Hamilton as Mrs. Rachel Lynde, but if you are going to bring most of the cast back it should have been for something more special than this. Dealing with the war really should have been the dominant focus without the half-hearted efforts to get us up to date on some of the characters. Against the backdrop of a world war the petty marital squabbles of Olivia and Felicity seem rather childish. Besides, the television series ended with Felicity's marriage and it is just wrong to throw out that happy ending without serving some greater purpose than what we have here. "Happy Christmas, Miss King" will disappoint most viewers, simply because of the heightened expectations they will have based on their memories of the beloved series. Fans will want to see it, but they should do so with lowered expectations.

5 out of 5 stars Heartwarming Avonlea Christmas Story.......2003-01-01

Note: This DVD is the same movie as the earlier released "Happy Christmas, Miss King".

I really enjoyed this movie. From what I remember, it was filmed and released after the Road to Avonlea series had finished filming its 7 seasons. The movie stays true to the Avonlea characters and scenery.

For one of the reasons that Kevin Sullivan stopped the filming of the charming RTA series... the Christmas movie shows the time of war. The boys of Avonlea (including Felix King) go to war and all the innocence of Avonlea is temporarily lost.

However, this is a Christmas movie, and 'The Road to Avonalea Christmas' depicts the Christmas theme with all the charm and detail that the Road to Avonlea series has brought us.

I would definitely add this DVD to your personal or child's collection.

4 out of 5 stars Not Quite the best, but still better than most shows.......2007-08-26

Season 6 of "Avonlea" as we always knew it by in the US is not quite as excellent as its pervious seasons, but is still worth the purchase none the less. The season begins with one of the best episodes of the series, "The Return of Gus Pike." This episode finally resovles the story arc between Gus Pike, Captain Crane, Abe Pike, and Gus's Mother. In this episode we finally find out why exactly Gus ended up a orphan without a family, and what really happened to his mother Eliza. Janet-Laine Green does a amazing job of portraying Gus's mother and even somewhat resembles him.

The other episodes in this season are kind all over the place. Focusing on many of the different characters. Sara appears in only one episode, and it is basically the big goodbye for Sarah Polley who had, had her fill of the series. In this episode Sara must decide rather she is going to follow her own dreams or those of her Aunt Hetty or Nanny Louisa. The episode also brings back Arthur Pettibone who returns. Definately one of my favorite episodes of the series.

In this season the character of Cecily is replaced by actress Molly Atkinson. Atkinson brings new life and depth to the character that the previous actress was not able to. I'm not saying the prior actress was bad or anything, but Atkinson brings Cecily more in to adulthood. The third episode in the season is called "Christmas in June," and is probably one of the best stand alone stories of the series.

Also during this season, the character of Rachel Lynde suffers two seperate strokes. She must leave her beloved Avonlea and Green Gables and that leaves Hetty King to raise Davey and Dora Keith. It almost seems at this point that the writers were just trying to find something for the very talented Jackie Burroughs to do.

There are several good episodes and several ones that a individual could probably do without. We see less of Sara (again only in one episode), Felicity, and Gus(also only in one), but more of Felix, Hetty, Davey, Dora, Izzy, and Green Gables alum Miss Stacey. Definately a enjoyable season at the very least!

5 out of 5 stars ROAD TO AVONLEA THE COMPLETE SIX SEASON.......2007-05-15

THAT IS A GRAT MOVIE YOU JUST WANT TO SEE ALL OF IT.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasant........2007-04-06

Season-six weakens in episode consistency compared to earlier seasons. Out of 13-espisodes, 8 are pleasant, 2 break believability without the real Cecily, 2 are good, and 1 is excellent. The pleasant stories of Avonlea do continue. The episode, "A Fox Tale", where Felix and Izzy start a business, is excellent with bantering between Felicity and "that annoying boy" Nat Lester.

Sarah appears in one episode.

A different actress plays Cecily, appearing and starring in two episodes. The original actress, in spite of the small part, created a likeable and memorable Cecily with a distinct personality; that she could not be replaced without notice. The two emotional Cecily episodes depend on the audience remembering and liking the original Cecily, but then switch someone else as Cecily. Who's idea was that? If they were unable to sign the original actress for another season after flowers and gifts, they would have done better to leave Cecily out entirely.

This season has less scenic outdoor photography that was so appealing.

The touted "Behind-the-scenes" is only a "preview" of this DVD that you have already bought, and the producer saying it is a nice season.

The writers of my favorite episodes of the early seasons, Heather Conkie, Suzette Couture, and Hart Hanson are missing this season.

These disappointments should be forgiven, in light of this wonderful series. It really is a great series.

You should start with the first season; as seasons 1-5 are best. Charming children and adults get into fun predicaments. If you liked "Little House on the Prairie" or "Anne of Green Gables"; you will like this. The realistic, likeable, characters are people that I would like to know. Avonlea is a place that I would like to visit, with beautiful countryside, farm, horses, period costumes and sets, women in pretty dresses, charm, some humor, interesting activities, and a lively pace.

Disney spared no expense creating fun escapades.

4 out of 5 stars 2 episodes = 1 movie.......2006-06-26

If you haven't seen the Road to Avonlea series this would be a good way to find out if you are going to like it. I liked it and am now buying the series.

Basically, the movie is episodes 1 and 6 cut and edited together to make a reasonably coherent movie. There is a bit of a continuity jump in the middle but that is to be expected.

Road to Avonlea is based on L M Montgomery ('Anne of Green Gables' Fame )stories about Sara Stanley a "poor little rich girl" sent to live with relatives on Prince Edward Island.

It has all the charm and grace of "Anne of Green Gables" and all the humour too. If you are looking for a family friendly movie then this has a lot going for it.

The disk has a small extras section giving some backgound to the series. If you want to know more about the series have a look at the reviews for seasons 1-7.

5 out of 5 stars Sometimes Miracles are right under our nose all the time.......2007-07-18

It's 1935, Life for Ryan Delaney has been tough. His father is dead, his mother recuperating from tuberculosis, whom it has been his duty to take care of and try to survive without enough food. He is fresh out of high school at age 16. Trying to get a scholarship to go to college, and looking for a job to pay the remainder of his tuition, jobs just don't seem to be available. Ryan's pesky little brother Sullivan, whom he has never realy known, has been living with relatives throughout his mothers long illness. Sullivan is sent back home to live, and placed in Ryan's care while their mother works. In order to obtain a job as a camp counselor, Ryan manufactures an elaborate lie about his age and experience and bites off a bit more than he can chew. Ryan impresses the dean so much with his interview that he is not only given the job, but hired as HEAD COUNSELOR of the camp. The problem? Ryan knows nothing about leadership, is barely more than a child himself, can't swim, has never been to camp before and hates 10 year olds. He also has to find a way to go away for the summer and tend to his 10 year brother at the same time. He manages to get Sullivan into camp as well, but on an agreement that Sulli fends for himself. In addition to the challenges that wait ahead for Ryan, life gets really complicated and Sulli is unable to manage on his own. The two brothers are forced to get acquainted really for the first time in their lives. Ryan receives word while at camp, that his scolarship application has been denied. He needs a miracle in order to go to college and earn a good enough living to raise his family out of the squallers of poverty. Ryan however soon realizes that is not the only miracle he needs.
This is a very heart warming movie that I highly recommend to anyone. Emmy Award Winner (Best Actor) Greg Spottiswood, stars as Ryan Delaney. His performance is awesome, but he's not the only one stealing the show. The young man who plays as Sullivan does an outstanding job portraying his young character. All the acting in this film is wonderful and very believable. The casting is top notch and the story line is superb! Showcased in beautiful canadian surroundings, this film seems to have it all. The one hitch about "Looking for Miracles" that I found unsatisfactory, were a couple brief encounters with snakes. This would normally cause me to stop the movie and pull it out right there. If you're like me, you'll have to cover your eyes a couple minutes and wait until it's safe to look. The ending could have been much worse, and was really pretty good, but rather abrupt and I felt it could have been very powerful with another five minutes on the film. Includes a "behind the scenes" extra on the DVD. I loved this movie. This is one film that I would loved to have seen another hour of. You won't want it to end!

5 out of 5 stars Heartwarming, Real and Inspiring Family Entertainment.......2006-02-05

Timeless, heartwarming family entertainment that is real and not sugar-coated throughout. As the youngest male in a family of six boys, and the offspring of depression-era parents, this film touches my heart in magical ways. It continues to be one of my favorite films since first viewed over 10 years ago. I highly recommend it.
