I love Sailor Moon. I have about a ton of merchandise. I got this DVD for my birthday. I was so happy! I watched the Japanese versions of these epoisodes and absolutley loved them. I thought, the english version must be pretty good too, right? Wrong!!! Although I like the dubbed version, these epoisodes absolutley stunk. They cut and edited tons of scenes. The script was terrible also. I recommend getting something else. I only gave this DVD 3 stars because it's Sailor Moon.

The Netherwoods (Keith Carradine and Daryl Hannah) are bad parents. They break into people's homes and steal food, leaving their daughter Janie (Julia Devin) in the car to occupy herself. So the state takes Janie away from them and puts her up for adoption. Unfortunately for Janie's new parents, the Cliftons (Moira Kelly and Vincent Spano), the state didn't catch the Netherwoods, and the bad parents want their daughter back. This summary, though accurate, isn't fair to The Tie That Binds; despite the broad strokes of the plot, the movie is surprisingly successful at creating suspense. The violent scenes are both effectively brutal and effectively restrained--what we see looks like it hurts, but the most gruesome violence happens offscreen. The performances aren't subtle, but like the movie itself, they're grounded enough in reality to sustain the suspense. The gorgeous cinematography lends itself to some beautiful images (a sheet blown away by the wind, fireflies flickering in front of an unfinished house) that create a unusually graceful sense of impending danger. This may not have played as well on the big screen, but in the intimacy of your own home The Tie That Binds has an accumulating creepiness that will last longer than the jagged shocks and jolts of most recent thrillers. --Bret Fetzer

"I thought this movie was great, I remember I watched it some years back, but never got the movie. The two outlaw parents were crazy people and proved that they would'nt let anything get in their way to get their daughter."

DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY TIES.......2005-02-05

Lovely little Julia Devin as Janie, the little girl in this well crafted thriller, is the soul of this movie, and her plight and situation forms the crux of this movie. Director Wesley Strick has added some beautiful visual scenes: a sheet blowing in the wind; fireflies flickering in front of the vacant house; little Janie framed in a window with curtains blowing and a picturesque night sky. Daryl Hannah and Keith Carradine are ominously evil in their roles as Janie's real criminal parents; Vincent Spano and Moira Kelly offer a nice counterpoint to these evil duo and display a strong, nurturing relationship for Janie. There are a couple of plot holes: why didn't they ever find the social worker after her demise? What makes Hannah turn on Carradine? But, as far as this type of thriller goes, THE TIE THAT BINDS is a worthy entry.

"The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" was a little better than
"The Tie That Binds" but this movie is a good movie.After a couple break into a house to steal some food for their daughter and the cops show up their little daughter Janie is taken to an orphanage by the Cliftons,a decent couple who don't have any children.Problem is the Cliftons don't know that Janie's parents are outlaws and are trying to find her and will stop at nothing to do so.Even if they have to kill everyone they know to do it.
The movie has pretty good performances by Daryl Hannah and Keith Carradine.Don't listen to the other reviews on the internet,this is a pretty good movie.B for the movie,B for the acting.Enjoy!!!

Disappointing.......2002-01-29

I watched it coz it wasfrom the same maker(s) of "The hand that rocks the cradle" & I had high expectations. All I can say is it's no near to that movie & this film is such a disappointment.

Watch it for Vincent Spano.......1999-10-29

Thrills, suspense, violence...All this with a sweet undertone of an innocent child. Carradine and Hannah played two psychotic killers...a great stretch for their normal roles. They were both convincingly scary, and I wouldn't want to come across them in the middle of the night. Sour story of spree killing. Not recommended for young children. If you love Vincent Spano, he does an excellent job in this movie. I watched this movie because he was in it. He gets 100 stars from me.

The Unsaid (Tom McLoughlin, 2001)

Here's a rule of thumb for you: any time the description of a piece of media, be it a book, a movie, a radio program, a scribble, what have you, begins with the words "in the tradition of," that piece of media is going to be bad. Very, very bad. Still, I was overly fond of Andy Garcia (before he got mixed up with Steven Soderbergh, anyway), so I had to see this movie. Which is "in the tradition of Primal Fear", according to the box. Ay caramba.

Garcia plays Michael Hunter, a therapist who goes into early retirement after the suicide of his son and the breakup of his family, coming into public only for the odd lecture now and then. After one of them, he is approached by Barbara Wagner (Teri Polo of The West Wing), a former student of his now a caseworker, and asks him to look over the case of a teenage boy who has everyone but her fooled. You know where this is going, right?

To its credit, I did see a few places where it looked as if it were going to veer off into the territory of slick, complex psychological thriller. It manages to avoid doing so, however, at every turn. The film makes regular reference to Thomas (Angel's Vincent Kartheiser) resembling Hunter's son Kyle, and at one point, it looks as if Thomas is going to try and play on that. There's one reference...and then that entire line of thinking disappears from the script. It's as if they tried to do it one way, decided to do it another way, didn't quite get everything revised out of the script from the first way, and then failed to catch the error. At least, I hope that's the case; if it was actually meant to come off like this, screenwriter Miguel Tejada-Flores' heart wasn't really in it. (After checking his recent credits, which include such timeless fare as Darkness and Rottweiler, however, I find I could also be incorrect in that. He could, really, just be that bad.)

There is a rule I have with "In the tradition of..." films most of the time: you're better off watching the movie that the coattail-riding dog is in the tradition of. In this case, the rule holds up. Maybe even better than most times. Garcia isn't enough to save this one. There's some serious eye candy in the triple-threat of Polo, a young Linda Cardellini, and Chelsea Field, but that's about it. * ½

This movie is a boring waste of time. Remember to set your alarm clock before you start the movie! Yes, It could have been a good movie with the cast, but is wasn't. Not done well, but acted well-OK! This movies script should have had rewrite all over it. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like it.

Andy Garcia is at his best. This movie, although not a true story, which is 99.9% of what I buy, was so good I just had to add it to my collection.

the unspeakable.......2007-03-26

Utterly predictable plot and indulgently plodding direction sink this movie. I happened to watch it soon after seeing MYSTERIOUS SKIN, which features the same issue, same state (Dorothy wouldn't recognize Kansas, though the various Capote movies would), some similarly indulgent editing in the cereal scene, but in contrast to THE UNSAID is worth a visit. HUFF blows this paltry meller out of the water.

I brought the DVD because of VINCENT KARTHEISER, he is my favorite movie star. This is a very high quality film. Both Vincent Kartheiser and Andy Garcia performed excellent. I did got a strong feeling for the the scene and air in it, and highly recommend this great indie film.
