Disney Channel's High School Musical DVD Board Game

The Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical is a combination of backstage action and Grease without the unwholesome habits. Scoring record ratings at the time of its January 2006 broadcast, it's a smash hit with tween audiences (ages 6 to 10), but appealing for all ages. At a New Year's Eve party, Troy (Zac Efron of the WB's Summerland) has a chance meeting with Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) when they share a karaoke song. Lo and behold, when school resumes, they discover that Gabriella has just transferred to Troy's East High School, a campus divided into tight cliques of jocks, cheerleaders, brainiacs, and skater dudes. Eager to recapture the magic they'd discovered during karaoke, Troy and Gabriella consider auditioning for the school's upcoming musical, much to the dismay of the school's frost queen/theater goddess, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody). Problem is, Troy is also the star of the basketball team and Gabrielle is being recruited to compete in the Scholastic Decathlon. Will they give up their cliques to start something new, or will they do as the show's first big anthem urges and "Stick to the Status Quo"? Well, this is a Disney movie, so maybe the sacrifices won't be that hard, and even the hints of romance are mild.
The bestselling soundtrack is catchy in that Disney-pop kind of way, mixing in a dash of hip-hop ("Getcha Head in the Game," punctuated by squeaky basketball shoes and other sound effects), salsa ("Bop to the Top"), and the endearingly hammy ("What I've Been Looking For" performed by Sharpay and her brother, Ryan, played by Lucas Gabreel). It's not hard to imagine High School Musical becoming a semi-staple for high school groups to perform themselves. DVD bonus features include sing-along subtitles; a 9-minute featurette discussing casting, recording sessions, and rehearsals; a multi-angle look at a rehearsal of "Bop to the Top"; and music videos for "We're All in This Together" and a song that didn't make it into the final film, "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," performed by Efron, Hudgens, Tisdale, and Gabreel. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
Great Musical.......2007-09-15
This was a great movie. I had heard Kelly talk about it on Regis and Kelly many times and kept ignoring it. I figured that at my age it was a little young, but i rented it and thought it was great and immediately became addicted! I had seen Zac Efron on Summerland and never saw what was so great about him, but he is really great in this role and he can sing really well! As far as people stating that he is too short to be a basketball star, he is in high school and the average height and weight varies. I went to school with a very short person on our varsity team as a freshman because he was just really good, so it isnt impossible. i didnt find it too hard to believe except that he wasnt very built. In the second one though he looks more the basketball star. The rest of the cast does and great job and Vanessa has an amazing job. Look past what happened recently in her personal life leaking to the public, and think of it as just that something in a teenagers life that wasnt suppose to be said to everyone in the world. She is still a role model and a great singer.
A Must Have.......2007-09-08
All in All the very best musical Ever!Im 48 and think these Actors/Singers Out did Grease 110 percent! My fav being Vanessa Anne Hudgens,Ashley Tisdale and the Talented Lucas Grabeel who plays Ryan. For you Grease Fans you should update your musical because this is a must have and really trully better.
A Whiff of Fascism.......2007-09-06
I know, this is a very popular movie and the music is OK. But the story is stridently insipid: winners win because that's what winners do, and losers lose because there's something wrong with anyone who's not a winner...and don't talk to me about underdogs. Despite the best efforts of its heroically perky cast, the film is nearly humorless. It was suggested that we stage this at our high school, but I've black-balled it.
Bring Back Grease!.......2007-09-01
I finally saw this movie after months of hearing about how unexpectedly brilliant it was, and I have to say I disagree completely. Nothing about this movie was unexpected; everything from the cheesy dialogue to the cliched plot to the corny songs to the caricatures, I mean characters, were predictable to the point of being campy and over-the-top. And not in a good way. Why exactly is a scrawny, short kid the star of the basketball team? What reasonable people are that frenetically obsessed with maintaining the status quo? And what's up with Sharpay and her brother starring in every school show *together*? Incest, that's a new one for Disney. I'd also like to point out that no one would name their two children "Ryan" and "Sharpay." As a disclaimer, I do love bad karaoke, Disney Channel Original Movies, Grease, but I can't see what the fuss is all about with this one. This movie's only redeeming qualities were Gabriella, Kelsi, and that kid who bakes stuff, all of whom I thought were adorable. The only reason this is even getting 2 stars is because for whatever reason, I set my TiVo to record the second one.
Well, the story line was good..........2007-09-01
alright I know this is going to effect my reviewer rank but i can't leave this unsaid, I CAN'T STAND DISNEY ANYMORE!!!! I used to love disney before they got all the teenager relationships!!! It did have a good story line so I'll give some credit to disney for that. if you like teenager sappy romance I guess you"ll love this. I mean no offence to anyone who likes this movie so please don't say this was an unhelpful review. I am just saying what I think.

Religious DVD.......2007-09-17
This is my first Yoga DVD. I wasn't expecting all the chanting and strange tongue exercises. I'm not sure if I don't care for Yoga or if I don't care for this type of yoga. I'm Christian and felt like I was practicing some strange religious chant. The exercise itself was pretty good. My body felt good the next day. I doubt if I'd use it again because of counter Christian aspect.
All In One Yoga.......2007-09-15
This is the MVP of all my workout DVDs. It contains two 25 minute sets. The first set is Rise & Spine, which is a very good set to use as an introduction to kundalini yoga. It is the basic spinal series. Even though I don't consider myself a beginner yogi any more, I do Rise & Spine probably more than any other yoga set. It feels fantastic on the back and my energy and mood are sky high after a session! The second set on the DVD is Ravi & Ana's version of The Five Tibetan Rites. It is more challenging than the spinal series, but not overly hard. Thus it is more of an intermediate practice. If you are a beginner there is nothing in the second set you can't do. You just do as many repetitions of each exercise as you can and then rest and build up that way. They are terrific instructors and give modifications and tips to get you in and out of poses safely! Best of all - Ana & Ravi make every workout a great time with great music, inspirational instruction. Just great!
Phenomenal Yoga Workout.......2007-09-15
I have a pretty extensive yoga library and this definitely ranks as my number one most used DVD. It contains two sets that are both dynamic and invigorating and can be done on their own or together. The spinal set is great for loosening and stabilizing my back, It also gets me quickly connected to my core. After the spinal set I feel ready for anything and I usually go right into part 2 - The "5 Tibetan Set" (one of the best versions of the 5 Tibetans I have seen anywhere) which is an excellent well rounded strengthening and toning program. There are not many yoga studios in my town and it is wonderful to be able to study at home with such high caliber teachers. I am so grateful they take the time to put their workouts on DVD!
great work out.......2007-09-13
I like that it's split into two parts. Makes it more do-able for my hectic schedule and I find I look forward to the workouts.
I adore Ravi & Ana's version of the 5 tibetans.......2007-09-12
Probably my most used Ana & Ravi DVD. I like both the sets, and I like that they can be done together or separately depending on the time you have. I am lately doing this on my deck in the morning and love that the instruction on all the Ana & Ravi's is so clear that you can follow along without having to constantly watch the screen.
My back just loves the spinal section and I think the sets, particularly the 5 Tibetans, hit a little bit on all areas. The 5 Tibetans are also great for when I want quick energy and toning but don't have a lot of time. This is just a great all around DVD that I would recommend to absolute newbies and experienced yogis/yoginis alike

There seems to be no end to beating-the-odds football movies these days, and if they all peak with a breathless moment of anticipation during a clutch play, then We Are Marshall, based on a true story, has plenty of (mostly good) company. Matthew McConaughey plays Jack Lengyel, who becomes head coach--more or less by default--of Marshall University's rebuilding varsity football team in Huntington, W. Va., after the school's 37-member team and coaches (and a number of others) die in a plane crash in the Appalachian Mountains on Nov. 14, 1970. Facing an indifferent college president (David Strathairn) ready to shut the football program down, a morose assistant coach (Matthew Fox), and a charged-up player (Anthony Mackie) who missed the doomed flight due to an injury, Lengyel is faced with fielding a new team and putting the players through their paces. There are the usual, perhaps too-familiar, training montages and field action, but screenwriter Jamie Linden and director McG (Charlie's Angels) also draw some very good peformances from the likes of Kate Mara and Ian McShane, contributing to an emotional tapestry conveying a powerful sense of how such a sizable loss affects a small community. --Tom Keogh
Description
Football is a game that knocks you down, then expects you to get back up. Life hit the West Virginia town of Huntington and its Marshall University even harder. When it did, Jack Lengyel came by to help pull them onto their feet by taking the job no one wanted: rebuilding the Marshall football program only months after a plane crash wiped out Marshall's beloved Thundering Herd. Matthew McConaughey portrays Lengyel, the energetic, compassionate coach of inexperienced players whose chances of victory are slim and none. They'll go with the slim. And as they do, their true-life story of heart, healing, and football will thrill and inspire you. It's game day. Time to play till the whistle blows!

Stunning, simplistic, rewarding!.......2007-09-16
I remember clearly, as a high school junior, the shock and loss that the crash of the aircraft carrying the Marshall University football team invested on a nation. The town, the college, and those left behind must have suffered so. It has taken 25 years to portray that loss on film, and the December film, "We Are Marshall", while not living up to its promise as one of the years "awardable" movies, was nevertheless a moving film experience.
The film deals briefly with the events leading up to the crash, and then in depth with the different ways that those affiliated with the school grieve and start over again. Star athlete Nate Ruffin (Anthony Mackie) is stunned at the fact that he wasn't on the plane, due to injury, and that his legacy is to pick up where the team left off and start over again. His faith in that new start never waivers. Unlike Ruffin, the school's administration and its president Donald Dedmon (the always excellent David Strathairn)
are more realistic. They can't recruit, can't play freshman, can't rebuild right away. The school is small and although "The Thundering Herd" were important to students, alumni and faculty alike, the task is insurmountable. They will suspend the program for a few years to give everyone a chance to recover.
The student body has a different plan, and their outrage presents Dedmon with the need to try. He can't find a coach and has to settle for a virtual unknown from the College of Wooster. Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey, complete with greasy hair in an unlikely length and clothes of plaid polyester) accepts the challenge He's just savvy and stubborn enough to make it work, to reformat and refashion a team of sorts, and even to talk former recruiting scout, Red Dawson (Matthew Fox) into returning as an assistant coach.
The remainder of the film deals with both the practical matter of building the team, the difficulty in winning, and the way those in the town and at the school deal with the grief of what might have been.
Director McG, not a favorite of mine (he brought us BOTH Charlie's Angel's films) surprises with his light touch with the story and his ability to let the film find its own legs. It is a poignant tale. It bogs down between the decision to move forward with the team and the actual first game. The game sequences have an authentic feel, and the score moves well with the film. The film feels like authentic West Virginia and authentic 70's. It never attempts to be something it isn't; it's a sports film that treats the sport within the greater landscape of what was happening in the times and how emotions sometimes get in the way of moving on with your life. It deeply affected the crowd in the theater on the day I saw it.
McConaughey is goofy, offbeat and believable as Lengyel. Aside from his performance, everyone else in the film works well together as an ensemble, with few false notes but not much to remember about their contributions. There's no cliche here, just a simple story that will make you both sad and hopeful. Forget what the critics say, "We Are Marshall" will touch you.
Excellent Movie About Life.......2007-09-15
Aside from being a well-done movie about how a football coach literally rebuilt a program from the ashes, this movie's message is about how survivors cope with an overwhelming personal tragedy. Loss is a part of life, and how each person deals with their loss, and then decides to get on with their life, is the ultimate theme of the movie.
Very well done, and an entertaining (but not sappy or maudlin) movie. My family (wife, son, three daughters) enjoyed it from completely different perspectives.
Touches your soul.......2007-09-15
First of all, I am not a football fan nor do I live in West Virginia. In fact, I had never even heard of this tragedy before this film was advertised in the theatre. However, as soon as I saw it, I wanted to see it and I went the opening day as soon as I got off of work. Enough has already been commented on about the excellent casting for the film and I completely agree. The point is folks, this is a human story...a story that reaches deep inside you and grabs at your heart. It shows you their pain, which those individuals still bear today, and yet it shows their courage and spirit to continue despite adversity. I've no doubt it is true to life. I know it brought tears to my eyes, as I'm sure it will to yours. And you will admire them as I do.
Outstanding and Heart Felt.......2007-09-08
As a graduate of Marshall University and a life long resident of West Virginia, I was only 4 years old when this horrible accident took place. My father was on the scene and relived the memories throughout his life. The film is a inspiration to all who believe in overcoming obstacles.
Never thought this tragedy would be a movie.......2007-09-06
Nine months after the initial showing of "WE ARE MARSHALL" I still have to pinch myself to believe this movie really happened. I had great fortune to see it first time in Huntington while home for Xmas with my Father. He, my late Mother (she was retired MU professor) and other family loved the experience of being together to see it. Like everyone at MU at the time, I lost friends and parents of my friends. But....somehow we survived and so slowly put our lives back together but we always understood that life is precious, not to be taken for granted. The movie does a good job of acknowledging the deep pain we felt and how we all struggled with the loss. People seeing the movie who do not know MU Football history may not realize how long it took for MU Football to be competitive again and what determination everyone connected with MU showed in sticking with it. MU Football now has two consecutive losing seasons but I do not get too concerned about it. As Matthew Mc. said in an interview Marshall got "back into the game of life".....after all....that is all that really matters! Bring on the Herd! Let's Go Herd! We Are ....MARSHALL!

Customer Reviews:
This will ease you into yoga and a great workout.......2007-09-13
I Highly recommended this DVD to people looking to get into exercise, get some tone and some low impact aerobics and start to understand the benefits of yoga. I searched reviews before buying & I hope this will help you decide as well.I'm now the proud owner of 6 Ravi & Ana DVDs and have a rotating weekly schedule that way. I get an amazing buzz from them all but my main focus is weight loss and moods which is why Fat Free Yoga is my favorite . I appreciate the 20 minute sets - short and sweet and a total blast to do. Every set perks me up and leaves me bopping around afterwards full of energy.
PS. Also, I lost 3 lbs and 1/2 inch off my waist last week, so that's *really* helping the moods as well.
Fantastic, Amazing, Fun!.......2007-09-12
Fat Free Yoga is the most accessible yoga workout DVD I own. It is cut into useful mini-workouts. Very handy for short time windows. It is great at the end of a stressful day when you can't imagine doing anything. Just pop it in and the music starts and there is Ana dancing with that huge smile and you get drawn right in. I really feel so much better afterwards I could try to describe the effects but I don't think I would get the words right. Everyone should just try it. I can only say you will really feel different and maybe, like me, wonder how you did without it.
Something good to do for yourself.... .......2007-09-11
This is a wonderful thing to do for yourself...some stretching, toning, breathing, meditating and calming. A pleasant soundtrack, good verbal cues, excellent visual cues, and a flexible program you can organize for yourself. A real treat.
great stuff..........2007-08-28
I felt energized a few minutes after starting this DVD. It was my first time trying this type of yoga. After doing it a few times a week i did notice i could sleep better and i had less food cravings during the day. Im really happy with the DVD, i highly recommend it to anyone looking for more energy and an easy type of workout that will mnake you take a sweat though it may not seem like it when you first watch it because the moves are simple. Good luck to you all.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-08-07
I have just about all of ana and Ravi Dvd's. I enjoy all of the workouts. Fat Free Yoga is my favorite. I am constantly doing fire breaths throughout the whole workout. I have never been so calm. I use to have constipation problems, not anymore. I feel totally one with the universe. If you are having stress in your life, I recommendmend doing any of the ana and Ravi workouts. I don't do my aerobis anymore, because it wear and tears down my body. But ana and Ravi Dvd's gently get the body in shape without the wear and tear to the body. So I want to say thank you Ana and Ravi for creating a work out, that will heal you emotionally, physically and spirtiually. T.C from Detroit Mi

Most people didn't mind Gwyneth Paltrow's English accent in this charming, 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen's novel (which also inspired Clueless). But even if it doesn't sound quite right to you, there are plenty of authentic and wonderful Brit thespians in this film by screenwriter-turned-director Douglas McGrath (co-author of Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway), including Juliet Stevenson (Truly Madly Deeply), Alan Cumming (Buddy), Phyllida Law (Much Ado About Nothing), Ewan McGregor (the Scots star of Trainspotting), and Sophie Thompson, outstanding and finally heartbreaking as the chattering Miss Bates. Paltrow plays Austen's benign busybody, Emma Woodhouse--so busy trying to arrange the lives of others that she is sidestepping her own. McGrath brings a kind of pretty and light touch to the production, his best move the wise delegation of creative authority to the actors themselves. --Tom Keogh
Description
This delightfully fun and lighthearted comedy is based on the story that inspired the hit movie CLUELESS! Dazzling Gwyneth Paltrow (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS) shines as EMMA, a mischievous young beauty who sets up her single friends. Funny thing is ... she's not very good at it! So when Emma tries to find a man for Harriet (Toni Collette -- THE SIXTH SENSE, ABOUT A BOY), she makes a hilariously tangled mess of everyone's lives. You'll enjoy all the comic confusion ... until Emma herself falls in love, finally freeing everyone from her outrageously misguided attempts at matchmaking.
Customer Reviews:
Adorable!.......2007-08-21
I adore Jane Austen and this version of Emma is spot on. The acting is wonderful and the fact that Gwenyth Paltrow is not really british doesn't even come to play because she is fantastic in this. A very witty, charming fun movie that any Austen fan will love. And that Mr. Nightly..........................sigh
One of my favorites!.......2007-08-16
I absolutely adore Emma, it is witty, funny, and adorable. The costumes are excellent (I in fact made a replica of Emma's pink archery gown) and the set is absolutely amazing. Anyone will feel right at home in Highbury with Emma and her friends.
great fun............2007-08-11
I remember seeing this film on the big screen, when it was first released in 1996. I was on a total Jane Austen kick. I think I saw just about every film adaptation of her novels (with the exception of PERSUASION), and was looking forward to how this version would fare. I am happy to say that Gwyneth Paltrow embodies the title character of Emma charmingly. The upperclass matchmaker [and mischiefmaker] proceeds to set people up, shake up naysayers around her and has her share of misadventures. This film will make you smile and is very cleverly executed, and the supporting cast (James Cosmo, Greta Scacchi, and Alan Cumming, among others) are strong and play off of Paltrow's spritely and fiesty Emma delightfully. What's more, cinematographically, this film was shot like a beautiful English landscape and glows with life. Lovely......
Oh Gweneth, you have captured Emma!.......2007-07-22
I had saved this production of Emma for the last and was surprised at what I had missed when reading the book! This was so true to the book and so wonderfully done that I will watch it over and over I am sure. It made the book come alive for me and sparked even more of Jane's meaning for me. I could see how Emma felt through Gwyneth's wonderful portrayal. I have never known Gweneth to be such a perfectionist as this movie truely reveals. Thank you Gwyneth!
can't get enough.......2007-07-18
I finally bought this after renting it about five times. By now I've seen it more than any other movie, I'm sure, and will never tire of it. If I'm ever having a blah week, I pop it in, and like magic, I'm cheered up. It's truly delightful.

The Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Director Robert Zemeckis, and Best Actor Tom Hanks, this unlikely story of a slow-witted but good-hearted man somehow at the center of the pivotal events of the 20th century is a funny and heartwarming epic. Hanks plays the title character, a shy Southern boy in love with his childhood best friend (Robin Wright) who finds that his ability to run fast takes him places. As an All-Star football player he meets John F. Kennedy; as a soldier in Vietnam he's a war hero; and as a world champion Ping-Pong player he's hailed by Richard Nixon. Becoming a successful shrimp-boat captain, he still yearns for the love of his life, who takes a quite different and much sadder path in life. The visual effects incorporating Hanks into existing newsreel footage is both funny and impressive, but the heart of the film lies in its sweet love story and in the triumphant performance of Hanks as an unassuming soul who savors the most from his life and times. --Robert Lane
Customer Reviews:
Numersous Secrets to Success are Shown in "Forrest Gump".......2007-09-14
Year of release: 1994
Writers: Winston Groom (who wrote the novel) and Eric Roth
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Runtime: 2 hours 22 minutes
I haven't seen this film for about 7 years or so. Seeing it again I was reminded why this is one of my all-time favorite pictures.
THE PLOT: Tom Hanks plays Forrest Gump, a mildly retarded Alabaman who brushes shoulders with the key figures and events of the 50s through the early 80s. Due to hard work, focus and uncommon wisdom he is hugely successful at whatever he does (running, war hero, ping pong, shrimp fishing). Meanwhile, the one woman he loves in all the world, Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), flounders through life hopelessly trying to find fulfillment in the drug culture with all the wrong people.
"Forrest Gump" is hugely entertaining on every level. It's a drama that skillfully includes both lighter, comedic moments and serious, tragic elements. If you've never seen it, don't think for a second that this is some average romantic comedy or goofball comedy. Far from it. I don't watch the Acadamy Awards or give any creedance to their judgment ("American Beauty," best picture? Please) but "Forrest Gump" is one instance where they were absolutely right in regard to the Best Picture award.
Some have criticized the film as an imbecilic fantasy, arguing that a simpleton like Gump would never become successful. It's true that the picture exagerates Forrest's successes and experiences, and in that sense it's not realistic, but the film plainly reveals WHY he experienced continued success throughout his life. We can all learn from these little gems of wisdom:
-- Whatever your I.Q., zero in on the areas for which you have a real talant.
-- Focus on those gifts and master them. In other words, don't be a jack of all trades. This is in line with the Russian proverb: "If you chase 8 rabbits you'll catch none."
-- Mastering your talants will take HARD WORK (which explains why lazy people are never wealthy, unless they inherit it).
-- Whatever you do, do it WITH ALL YOUR HEART.
-- Love deeply and cultivate deep loyalties (e.g. Jenny, Bubba & Lt. Dan). Loyalty is underrated.
-- Be patient and slow to judge (unless someone abuses another person).
-- Allow others the freedom to choose and make mistakes, even if it seems like it takes forever for them to learn from them.
-- If something or someone STINKS, reject it and stay away from it (remember the prostitute?).
-- Keep your word.
-- Pray and have FAITH.
-- Keep a humble spirit no matter how successful or great you become.
We can also learn lessons from Jenny: Trying to attain fulfillment through loose sex and foreign substances is a LOST cause. Recognize and embrace those who have your best interests in mind (i.e. those who truly love you and are loyal to you); stay away from people who use and abuse you.
From Lt. Dan (Gary Sinise) we learn a potent lesson about struggling with God to find true peace, success and reconciliation. Dan's all-out fight with God on the shrimp boat in the storm is potent and REAL. The great men and women of the bible experienced intense struggles with God: Most of the book of Job shows Job arguing with the Almighty and wanting to put Him on trial for crimes against humanity (!!); When God finally answers him Job falls to his face in humility and reverence. Jacob fought with God all night; the next day the Lord changed his name to Israel, which means "struggles with God" (Genesis 32:22-30). Also, remember Jesus' struggle with God and His will in the Garden of Gethsemane?
Another thing we can learn from Lt. Dan is that he was able to recognize a "golden connection" in Forrest. No one makes it alone, no one. They had help. Despite Forrest's lack of academic smarts, Dan recognized his wisdom and greatness; it attracted him and he respected it. Because of his link to Gump he became hugely successful. Remember: "One day of favor is worth a lifetime of labor."
Late in the film you'll see Lt. Dan and his Asian fiance at Gump's wedding. Note how Dan LOOKS at Forrest when they greet each other. Dan shows the utmost love and respect for Gump and is in utter awe of his simple-minded greatness. (This is great acting on Sinise's part).
"Forrest Gump" is a film gem to be RELISHED on many levels. Not only will you be incredibly entertained, you may learn a thing or two.
Forrest Gump DVD.......2007-09-04
Another Classic Movie worth watching over many times. My old VHS needed some updating.
The American Dream meets the American Nightmare.......2007-08-10
Two people, Forrest Gump and Jenny Curran, form an unbreakable bond as children. Forrest, although lacking in the brains department, manages to witness and play his part in some of the greatest events in American history. He meets JFK, wins the Medal of Honor in Vietnam, and manages to accidentally start the Watergate investigation. Forrest lives the American dream whereas Jenny lives the American nightmare; she has an abusive father and grows up to have a string of abusive boyfriends, works as a stripper, takes narcotics and ultimately contracts AIDS. Despite the pair going in completely different directions in life, they are still drawn to each other and Forrest and Jenny's story is one that will make you smile, laugh and shed a tear.
Every once and while, you see lists of the worst films to win Best Picture Oscars, and usually Forrest Gump makes that list. I think the reason for this is that we live in quite a cynical world and the majority of people do not really warm to lead characters that are innocent and pure of heart. This should not be the case. We should adore characters that are completely honest and very insightful despite their low IQs, and Forrest Gump is one of those characters that we should love. People who watch this film should check their cynicism at the door and just enjoy a film that is about the everyman battling the world using only truth and a deep-seated sense of what he believes is right. After all, this film has a noble tradition, it follows in the footsteps of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and It's A Wonderful Life. If Frank Capra were alive today, he would make films like Forrest Gump (if he could come to grips with all the CGI) and that's all I have to say about that...
didn't really get it.......2007-07-12
when this came on tv a few weeks ago, i was excited to watch it b/c i knew it was an acclaimed movie, everyone loved it and it won oscars. i was shocked to find that it was just an ordinary movie. it was actually boring. i don't get the hype about this movie. it was a bit sad, and i was on the brink of tears, and tom hanks wasn't that bad in it, but i think it is not at all what people say it is. this is highly overrated.
Destiny in a box.... .......2007-07-10
This movie was and IS a classic. From the first moment to the last, this movie is touching, moving, action-packed, humorous and just plain unbelievable.
I can't add much to my review that hasn't already been said, but I like this collector's edition. I liked the extras and I loved watching the finished product. Tom Hanks brought this character to life. This movie isn't a script. It's a story that Tom Hanks took control over. It's a part that he was born to play. And he played it to the hilt!
I loved, loved, loved loved this movie!!!

Once intended as a feature for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating feature film adaptation of Marvel Comics' cult title Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a skull-faced angel of vengeance to battle the forces of evil. Though perhaps a bit too mature for the role, Cage brings a degree of humor to the outrageous proceedings; he's well matched by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly cast as Mephistopheles, the demon with whom Blaze strikes a bargain to save his father, and in turn, causes his transformation into Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is also fine as Blackheart, the rebellious offspring of Mephistopheles, and Blazes' chief opponent in the film. They're joined by a solid supporting cast which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their participation and a relentless barrage of CGI effects can't hide the fact that the story itself, though largely faithful to its comic origins, is rife with clichéd characterizations and glum B-movie dialogue. Fans of the venerable title may cry foul over this adaptation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson's previous comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but less stringent viewers may enjoy the fiery visuals and Cage's typically quirky performance. --Paul Gaita

Ghost Rider.......2007-09-17
This movie did not live up to my expectations. I was expecting funny but what I got was completely different. Still a good movie but another one I am glad I did not go to the theaters and see.
Not to Cheesie.......2007-09-10
This was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Special effects are not that bad, Mr Nic Cage does a great job with what it is.
Ghost Rider, fast paced.......2007-09-09
Nicholas Cage (Gone in 60 Seconds) and Sam Elliott (Conagher), two giants and persaonal favorites. Make a pact with the devil and pay the price as did Johnny Blaze. Super adventure movie.
Constantine meets the Prophecy trilogy.......2007-09-09
I have to say that I am not familiar with any Ghost Rider comics, games or had had any other contact with the character apart from this movie so I cannot compare the character to other sources, nor can I take part in discussing the technicalities and the specifics like other reviewers have. Therefore, coming from someone that did not "know" Johnny Blaze prior to the film I have to say that the movie was pretty good!
Ghost Rider brings to the screen the story of a young man who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for curing his father's cancer.
There are slight hints of the X-Files, and strong/obvious elements of the Ninth Gate (starring Johnny Depp), Constantine (starring Keanu Reeves), and the Prophecy trilogy (starring Christopher Walkin), so the movie falls into the action/adventure/mystery/thriller/horror type of category.
Nicolas Cage and most of the rest of the cast carry out their performances well (Blackheart and Mephistopheles could have been played much better).
The plot, the setting, the dialogues, the music, and the special effects, are all good.
Ghost Rider is a movie guaranteed to provide for an evening's entertainment.
In short, I would definitely line up to watch a sequel!
Nicely done!.......2007-09-07
I grew up reading the comics of the Ghost Rider and loved it. So, when Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes were cast in this, I was less than hopeful. Didn't even see it in the theatres since I was expecting something along the lines of Daredevil, ie. a horrible adaptation serving as nothing more than a vehicle for the actors in the movie. I gotta say, I was very surprised. It was faithful to the comic while giving the story it's own spin. The casting and the effects was great and they even tipped their hat to the original Ghost Rider comic which was a western. Nicely done!
Watching this in Blu-Ray was amazing!! The colors, clarity and sound sucked you right into the movie. I hope they make another and take full advantage of what a great character they have. Just make him a tad darker in the next one. I'd like to see the flaming skull head that laughs as he sears the souls of his enemies.

Hollywood's legendary "woman's director," George Cukor (The Women, The Philadelphia Story), transformed Audrey Hepburn into street-urchin-turned-proper-lady Eliza Doolittle in this film version of the Lerner and Loewe musical. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady stars Rex Harrison as linguist Henry Higgins (Harrison also played the role, opposite Julie Andrews, on stage), who draws Eliza into a social experiment that works almost too well. The letterbox edition of this film on video certainly pays tribute to the pageantry of Cukor's set, but it also underscores a certain visual stiffness that can slow viewer enthusiasm just a tad. But it's really star wattage that keeps this film exciting, that and such great songs as "On the Street Where You Live" and "I Could Have Danced All Night." Actor Jeremy Brett, who gained a huge following later in life portraying Sherlock Holmes, is quite electric as Eliza's determined suitor. --Tom Keogh

"Garn!".......2007-09-06
Such a delightful film! This is probably one of Audrey's best performance! It's just so disappointing that she wasn't even nominated for the Oscar! Huh! I feel bad for her!
Oh, So Loverly!.......2007-09-03
I have always loved musicals, growing up watching them all the time, but by far My Fair Lady was the best I have ever watched. I never tire of watching Audrey Hepburn transform from a common flower girl to a lady. Though I was dissappointed that Audrey's voice wasn't used in the songs, there are the original songs with Audrey's voice in the extra features. If you love musicals, this is a must-see!
My Favorite.......2007-08-03
This is my favorite movie ever. They did a good job with it two. The extra stuff stinks so buy it for the movie.
Probably the best movie of all time........2007-08-01
Excellent cast and wonderful music make this superb movie one of the best of all time. The Oh so true play based on the English social class distinction, as it used to be, and scenes and characters in Covent Garden just add richness to the whole story.
Featuring the characters from the Covent Garden fruit and vegetable market, of former times, together with the opera goers from the Covent Garden Opera House adds highlight to the cultural extreams that existed, "shoulder to shoulder" for so long.
The truly beautiful Audry Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway, Wilfred Hyde-White, Gladys Cooper and company, give us the richness and romanticism of a bygone era.......just wonderful.
A classic!.......2007-07-31
This movie is sure to be a favorite for anyone who loves Audrey Hepburn or who enjoys musicals. It is very entertaining!

--David Horiuchi
On the DVD
The two-disc Remix Edition of High School Musical retains all the bonus features of the original DVD and adds a Spanish audio track and 34 minutes of new features. Following a couple minutes of red-carpet interviews from the DVD release party, "High School Reunion" (6 min.) gathers the cast for some more interviews, glimpses of their other Disney Channel credits, and appearances on the Teen Choice Awards and in London and Sydney. The longest feature is the dance-along, in which the cast teaches the choreography for "Get'cha Head in the Game" and "We're All in This Together." At 16 minutes, it allows for move-by-move instruction followed by half- and full-speed runthroughs, though they're facing the camera, so home participants will have to figure out the mirror image or simply ignore the left-right directions and do it backward. And because this is the Remix Edition, there are videos of the remixed versions of "Breaking Free" and "We're All in This Together" as well as a video of "Eres Tu," a Spanish version of "What I've Been Looking For" (the Ryan and Sharpay version) by Mexican band Belanova. Retained from the original DVD are the sing-along subtitles, the making-of featurette, the "Bop to the Top" rehearsal, and the music videos for "We're All in This Together" and "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You." Not included in this version: the trivia-packed "pop-up edition" that debuted on the Disney Channel on Thanksgiving weekend 2006. So even if the Remix Edition is a little thin for two discs, fans will enjoy the new stuff while they wait for High School Musical 2. --David Horiuchi

Tragedy Re-Visited.......2007-09-07
Being a WV native, and Huntington resident from 1967-1992 as well as a student at MU 1969-71, I waited for this film with both curiosity and some fear of what the producers would do to the story.
Some of the landmarks have changed-the downtown bridge is long gone and the bridge in the final scene wasn't completed until the late 1980's. The restaurant scenes capture the essence of Wiggins' 16th Street altho' it is gone as well. However, the feelings and the emotions of the community were portrayed exactly as we remembered them, we being my wife, a Huntington native and Marshall graduate. It took many months if not years before the community began to understand the impact of the trajedy. I believe it was to the University's, the Board of Regent's, and the Collegiante Athletics Commission's credit that MU was allowed to return to play and field a team, no matter how makeshift.
Following the Young Thundering Herd gave us cause to begin the healing process. Failing to re-instate the football program would have forever left the plane crash as a final punctuation point to MU athletics.
Matt Macconaughey's portrayl of post-crash Coach Jack Lengyel seemed a little over the top to me, but there is no question that Coach Lengyel is indeed a character. That outrageous sports coat was actually only slightly out of fashion in the day.
I saw the film in Florida, 2 months after it's release. I was amazed that at the end of the film very few in the audience left. Most folks, including us, just sat quietly in their seats while the credits rolled and then very quietly got up and left the theatre.
That was exactly the atmosphere on the Marshall Campus following the crash in 1969. Well done!
Nicely done...........2007-07-06
Matthew McConaughey at his best. Not his usual studlike movie. A town struck into mourning by almost an entire football teams airplane crash. To re-cooperate a football coach is hired. The students get behind him when the faculty doesn't want to do a first season and he does a great job at pulling that first season, after the crash, together. Shows the contrast in the town and how they dealt with the pain. Some wanted their children to be remembered by not having them play the game again, some wanted the team to go on because they would have wanted them to. Others felt guilty because they weren't on the plane and got to go on living. Great movie...
