Unbelievable Performances.......2006-02-05
I originally watched this movie when it came out on tv several years ago. I enjoyed it so much I copied it to a VHS tape, which at the time was the hot thing. When I noticed it had been released on DVD, I just had to buyt it. Besides the incredible portrals by the actors themselves. The soundtrack added an extra something to the movie. First you have Helen Hunt as the steamy seductive teacher. I don't remember having teachers that looked like that. I believe Hot For Teacher by Van Halen, had to be written while watching this story, lol. Chad Allen as the lovestruck or should I say lust struck teenager was excellent. Howard Hesseman the original Dr. Johnny Fever (Remember him from W.K.R.P in Cinncinatti!), playing a serious part of a lawyer and Larry Drake as the defendants backup. I have to admit if I would have been in the same situation, I might have done the same thing. Ok perhaps maybe not go as far as murder, but the thought probably would've crossed my mind. I've seen Helen in plenty of other movies. But her performance in this movie definitey steals the show and leaves a long lasting impression. I do agree that it makes long-haired headbangers look evil and such. But that's only if people don't open their minds to the possibilities. So if you're a fan of Helen Hunt and heavy metal, you'd probably really enjoy this movie. I know I have and no matter how many times I've seen it. The performances are still amazing. Check it out for yourself. I'm sure you won't be dissappointed.
A Helen Hunt triumph.......2005-03-02
If you're a Helen Hunt fan, you'll love this film. Personally I wanted to see it because it's a "down home in New Hampshire" flick. A true story set to film that's intriguing and has some excellent performances. The plot flows nicely and Helen Hunt is phenominal and believable as Pam Smart. In some true stories, for example, some of the Kennedy family movies, the actors just don't seem to "fit" the part. They're not "believable". In this movie, Helen hunt is very "believable" as Pam Smart. You wonder how a seemingly intelligent woman can want to be rid of a such a gorgiously handsome, sucessful husband for a mullet-wearing teen dude but hey, those raging hormones, right? I found that I had to keep reminding myself that this really is a true story. You shake your head in amazement as to why and how this could happen, but following the "dance" between Pam and Chad, you see the pieces fit. As in "The Mary Letorneau Story", you can also see after a while the how it could have happened even if it really makes no sense to the rational adult mind. Most people could never picture themselves in the same position, especially if they're a parent. As one who enjoys true life stories and being a huge fan of Helen Hunt, I highly reccomend 'Murder in New Hampshire' as a part of your DVD collection. I only had to see it on TV once to know that I had to buy it for my own collection.
MFTV Highs and Lows.......2003-02-14
A typical MFTV movie with a few interesting strenths, but tends to sag and go flat here and there, especially as it skips back and forth between the story and the trial. I bought the film mainly because it has a heavy metal theme. I'm a metal fan and longhair guy and I liked this aspect of the film, and I like seeing Helen Hunt as a headbanger chick. Some of you metalheads might enjoy a few of the cool '80's hair metal parts which are sprinkled throughout the film. The one thing that irritates me about this film besides it being dull here and there is that it indirectly portrays the typical, tired stereotype of the long haired metalheads as "bad" and "evil", something hollywood wrongly and unfairly always seemed to do with us. If heavy metal isn't your thing you probably won't like this film.
Pretty typical weak made for TV type flick.......2003-01-24
Honestly... I bought it cuz Chad Allen's in it. :) But the mullet... yikes.
movie.......2001-04-07
i thought the movie was pretty good but some parts were kind of boring. i would recommend this movie to people.

Everything you want in a dvd.......2007-01-04
This dvd is great! I wanted to learn something new on guitar but most videos are either chessy vague,or not my style. This dvd is for metal but is pretty universal, I really recommend it if you want to learn something new, and it's entertaining. I also suggest the other dvd's they have, and John Petrucci Rock Discipline dvd.
Advanced Metal.......2006-02-11
This instructional DVD was extremely helpful. Thanks to this DVD, I won first place in a contest of 15 people. My friend, whom I recommended this DVD to, won second place in a contest out of 10 people. My skill level increased immensely and I plan to continue to buy Rock House Method Products. "Advanced Metal" was the best instructional guitar DVD I have ever purchased.

There's nothin' wrong w/ this movie played right here.......2005-01-13
I hear the 1-star reviewer saids he hated it but I'ma give it 3.5 stars (C+ or C-) then just incase it was good. I kinda shocked when Shoop (Antonio Fargas) played a more Miles Davis role on the set. There's no reason of failure or dissapointment. This is a must-have if u like the sound of 'Mo Better Blues and Bird which I suggest.
Mo' Better Blues Wannabe!!!!!!!.......2003-09-17
The movie is extremely boring and the blind guy is just plain annoying, Antonio Fargas (Shoop) doesn't make the movie any better. I recomend that you see the movie only to lagh at how poorly it was displayed.

Good game, entertaining, but runs out of questions.......2006-12-08
This is an very good, fun, and entertaining game that plays well in singles or teams. The questions range from obscure to simple, covering pop, rock, dance, easy listening, even a little rap trivia. However, the questions do run out, repeat after about 5-6 games, so the own may have an unfair advantage. If you can get this at a low price, well worth it, nice design and playability, but can become obsolete quickly. still, this is a fun game while playing it. Enjoy.
I like this games effort, it is entertaining, but does run out of Questions.......2006-07-21
I got this game for christmas this year, and I must say it is very entertaining. I was hoping it was more rock/metal oriented, but it does throw in some other questions covering all modern pop and rock. It's easy to play and fun. The drawback is the fact that it does run out of questions and their are only so many set games, and then you will have to repeat. It would be nice if they came out with another edition of this game. I wish they could cram more questions on one disc though. Overall though, if your an average game player with friends on the weekend, and not one that will play the game just for the trivia by yourself once in a while (yes, guilty from time to time), the Game will last you about 10 sessions before you have to repeat stuff. But if you burn the questions yourself, then your left at group gametime knowing all the questions. So A great effort at the game, but just not enough trivia.
So You Think You Know Your Music Trivia?.......2006-04-25
For music lovers totally, of all genres...this game can be alot of fun. You think you know it all, but it really challenges you at times. We bought this game and were stumped a number of times, and we thought we knew it all! But RIFF showed us a thing or two! It's a fun game and you actually do learn things from it also. There are little quips included in it also. One thing we saw, under the answer "many people mistakenly think the lyrics to (bad moon on the rise are - there's a bathroom on the right"), it was so funny to see that, I thought my childhood friend was the only person to sing that, but now we know other people sing it that way too! Ha Ha! Very Cool Game, Hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I do.
its ok.......2006-01-18
my only real problem is that it asks the same questions over and over. Like if you place the game one time you know all the answers next time you play

Gets You There Faster -- Maybe.......2006-04-22
I agree with another reviewer who said the absence of Tab is a drawback to this instructional DVD. Tab is commonplace nowadays in instructional DVDs, so a good publisher like Hal Leonard should have and could have easily included it. I also agree with this reviewer's opinion that this DVD is for "advanced" players. But, if you are beyond beginner, and if your ear is good, and if you can track the fretboard moves, then you will like it. You can find all of these solos transcribed in numerous sources, but you can't get the visual information that the DVD provides. And, contrary to what the negative review said, I found the right-hand view very helpful. So, if you can figure out the riffs without the benefit of a written score, this DVD is quite helpful. If you CAN'T figure it out without a written score, then you can find the scores without too much difficulty, and use this DVD to help you master them. For me, written scores are never enough, so that's why I say this DVD may get you there faster, considering that the written score may never get you there at all. Tom Kolb is a good narrator, his playing is loose, relaxed, and accurate, and he does slow the licks down sufficiently for you to lift them, but you will definitely need to take advantage of the "loop" feature on your DVD player so that you can play the parts that puzzle you over and over as needed. For example, he plays the opening riff to "No Particular Place to Go" just once, and rather fast. It's a four-beat, three-strokes to the beat (triplet) strum of a D augmented chord at the 10th fret, but the way HE plays it, it MIGHT be eighth notes with a three-against-two rhythm (kinda like a rhumba). Later in the DVD he mentions the triplet rhythm as the basis of several riffs, and when you loop the opening riff, you can hear it that way, but here's where a written score would have resolved any doubts. Anyway, I got a lot out of this DVD, and for me, part of the fun was trying to figure things out without the score.
Maybe for experts but not for beginners.......2005-05-27
This is more of a demo of Tom Kolb's guitar skills rather than an intructional DVD for beginners. It only demos 8 riffs/solos. Here's the list:
1. No Particular Place to go (Chuck Berry)
2. Crossroads (Cream)
3. Hey Joe (Jimi Hendrix)
4. You Shook me (Led Zeppelin)
5. Iron Man (Black Sabbath)
6. Smoke on the Water (Deep Purple)
7. You Really Got Me (Van Halen)
8. Crossfire (Stevie Ray Vaughan)
This DVD does not show tabs!! I can't believe they show his left hand playing the fretboard and then they waste screen-space by showing his right hand in a PIP box. Whats more inportant, seeing his right hand pick/strum or seeing the tabs?!?!
Its hard to tell exactly where Tom is fretting. Its still a bit of a guess without the tabs. Especially when he's playing fast. Makes trying to learn from this DVD difficult. Tom does a lot of talking to tell you what he's doing, but that doesn't help an inexperienced player.
Overall, I'm being generous with the 2 out of 5 star rating. Would be better with more riffs/solos AND TABS!!!
Description
Bob Brozman's fascinating lesson will help acoustic guitarists of any style and genre look at the guitar in a whole new way. Bob explores the many aspects of rhythm guitar and what makes a good "groove." He helps you develop your coordination through a variety of drills, leading you in hand- and foot-tapping exercises so that accents, swing rhythm, polyrhythms, triplets in blues playing and other meters become second nature.
Moving the exercises to the guitar, Bob shows how to incorporate these techniques into songs using strumming patterns, string slapping, fret tapping, hammering, damping, and other devices that will put emphasis and movement into your music. Fingerstyle players will be especially intrigued by the ways that Bob works these subtleties into his blues and ragtime picking. Among other things, you'll learn how to incorporate blues, Caribbean, New Orleans, calypso and other rhythms into your picking and strumming style.
The ability to change and improve your instrumental arrangements through rhythmic variations is at the heart of this lesson. This is aptly demonstrated by the fact that Bob has improvised all of the music on this tape, proving the power and spontaneity of good rhythmic guitar playing.
A WORD FROM BOB BROZMAN
"In my life as a guitarist, I have found that rhythm and feeling is what captures the hearts of audiences, far more than all the scales in the world. Rhythm and intention of attack give life to guitar music. The best riffs and solos still tell a story, even if you remove the pitches and just hear the rhythm of the phrases. Paying attention to rhythm has, through increased muscle awareness, enabled me to continue my progress as a musician and take on more difficult musical challenges. It is a pleasure to share these ideas with you. Use them to make your own music more dynamic while learning to stay 'in the pocket' of the groove."
Customer Reviews:
alright for advanced guitarist.......2005-03-25
My best advice is if you can benefit from this DVD you don't need it. If that makes any since. Bob Brozman is a brilliant guitarist, not a teacher. The DVD is very short on instruction and long on watching him play full speed with very little explanation or break down of what he is doing. If your a beginner or intermediate guitar player you need to go with something a little more basic.
