Description
Filmed on location at the Family Dog Ballroom in San Francisco in September, 1970, the show captures the heyday and diversity of the San Francisco sound with three of the most well known bands to emerge from the scene: Santana, who would release their second album at the end of 1970; The Grateful Dead, including original band member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, who were making a name for themselves with their jam-filled performances; and Jefferson Airplane, who were at the time the biggest of the bands from the area.
San Francisco was an area of artistic creation during the mid-to-late 60's. Whether it was art, poetry or music, the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco was the place for like-minded individuals to explore and create. Noted jazz columnist Ralph J. Gleason took note of the exploding rock music scene and produced several television specials and documentaries spotlighting the music emerging from San Francisco. A Night At The Family Dog is one part of a two-part series (the other is Go Ride The Music) that aired on The National Educational Television Network in 1970.
The audio for this program has been extrapolated up to Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound mixes from their original mono source! This show has never sounded or looked so good!

the dead at the dog.......2007-09-09
This is a little piece of history captured for our viewing pleasure...
It only makes you wish there were more old vintage performances available
on dvd... Cheers to eaglevision for keeping the past alive and relevent..
Excellent time capsule.......2007-09-04
this is an approx. 1-hour color videotape, 16-track recorded snapshot of February 1970 performances by these three bands at The Family Dog in San Francisco. Originally produced at the time for public television broadcast; see the review entitled "Amazing Performances" for details ... also disagree w/ "It's Not the 60's" review comment: Grateful Dead were still to break new musical ground from 1970-74 esp. after 1971 when Keith Godchaux joined on piano, as was Santana with even more jazz-oriented 1972-74 albums and lineups (powerhouse drumming from Michael Shrieve here).
for 58 minutes you'll be transported to a time and place in music which can't come back - savor it.
A night at the family dog.......2007-09-01

SAN FRANCISCO'S FINEST HOUR.......2007-09-01
Beyond the film quality which is 1970's average at best, this DVD is Rock essential. Santana, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, the light show and hippie dancers is short in length, but still worth every penny. SANTANA - Carlos Santana in recent years admitted the original band was his best. They follow the Woodstock performance here playing two instrumetals proving they were no one hit wonders. "Abraxas" was not out yet, so it was still a work in progress. The musicianship is better than Woodstock, though not the fire. Gregg Rolie, "Chepito" and the rest made this more of a group than in the later years when the guitar hero was backed by... "Who's He Got This Year"? THE GRATEFUL DEAD - Why was this band never the same after Ron "Pigpen" McKernan died? He was the group's premier showstopper. Jerry Garcia was the leader, "Pigpen" the spark plug. He lets it all go on the R&B "Hard To Handle" lifting the room to peak level. The jam on "China Cat" is just a notch bellow "Europe 72". Still doggone good. The drummers sizzle. JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - Jack Casady's blistering bass solo alone on "The Ballad Of You & Me & Pooneil" is something to watch and hear. The guy is wired. Grace Slick, vocals and Jorma Kaukonen, guitar are in sync on "Eskimo Blue Day" even though after the song, it's apparent Slick is loaded. This was a great 60's band that splintered later into three parts. The Airplane is better here than at Woodstock and Monterey. THE ALLSTAR JAM is good only for watching. Carlos, Jerry and Jorma seem to respect each other too much rather than trying to top each other. Which band steals the show? It's a three way tie, all having shining moments that will never again will be dupliated. Now that "A Night At The Family Dog" is finally available, I hope next to follow will be the "Fillmore: Last Days" movie on DVD.
I WANT MORE.......2007-08-30
Musically this dvd is 5 star material, If it were a cd this would be a 5 star review. Problem being the brevity and editing. This dvd is much too short (about one hour). The editing flaws include slo-mo shots of a chick hippie-dancing in a sheer dress w/out a bra (even as I type this I feel wrong complaining) the problem is it'll be during peak jams where I would rather see Jerry or Santana's hands or even facial expressions than borderline soft-core porn. The material is great though, Pigpen on video alone is worth the price. It's obvious the cameraman got into the "special punch" that night and just shot whatever the hell he felt like tripping on. For completionists.

Simply cant' beat this one.......2007-09-05
Having been around since the beginning with these guys, this maybe one of the best concerts I've ever seen period. The music is great and the vocals are out of this world. I figured it would be good but it was great instead. 5 Stars is reserved for Beatle music only, so I had to go with 4. Don't waste any more time and buy this one.
Truly enjoyable!.......2007-07-17
I'm not a huge fan of the Bee Gees, although I grew up with their music and think they are amazing songwriters. My whole life, the Bee Gees have always had a song on the radio, so for me, they are part of my personal soundtrack. I picked up this DVD on a whim, and enjoyed it so much I think I watched it three times in one weekend. It's still in the player, ready to go again. Simply wonderful! Love them!
THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF THE BEE GEES!.......2007-07-04
I will be writing a review on the legendary historic DVD concert performance entitled "BEE GEES, ONE NIGHT ONLY" by one of Rock's all-time greatest bands ever. I give you one of Australia's and England's pride and joy's and one of Britain's and Australia's favorite sons, T-H-E B-E-E G-E-E-S! "BEE GEES, ONE NIGHT ONLY" was originally released on DVD in 1997 on Eagle Vision. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary historic concert or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.
There isn't anything new or different that I can say or add about THE BEE GEES that hasn't already been said. THE BEE GEES will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for composing and recording some of Rock's all-time greatest most sacred anthems ever. And get this, THE BEE GEES are in the TOP 5 MOST SUCCESSFUL BANDS IN THE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC! When brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb joined forces, THE BEE GEES would be born and Rock n' Roll would NEVER be the same again. Prior to 1997, THE BEE GEES were still releasing great albums to highly critically acclaim but their impact and popularity in the music world was slowing down and becoming very quiet. Perhaps it was because the album PR or promoting was not as effective as it should have been. However, 1997 would change all of that. 1997 would soon prove to be one of the greatest moments in THE BEE GEES careers as well as their lives. 1997 would also prove to be one of Rock n' Roll's greatest shining moments during one of Rock's finest hours for THE BEE GEES.
Just read what the back cover of this legendary concert DVD had to say: 1997 was an amazing year for THE BEE GEES, with inductions into The Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, plus Lifetime Achievement Awards from the British, American and World Music Awards, the Australian Record Industry, and the German Bambi Awards topped off by a 'ONE NIGHT ONLY' concert at the famed MGM Grand Garden Arena at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Neveda, THEIR ONLY LIVE CONCERT IN 1997 AND FIRST U.S. CONCERT IN NEARLY 10 YEARS.
The brothers Gibb perform their greatest hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, including many songs written for and made hits by other artists but never recorded by THE BEE GEES. PLEASE NOTE: You can hear the songs written for and made hits by other artists that WERE RECORDED
BY THE BEE GEES on the 2-CD set greatest hits compilation album entitled "BEE GEES, THEIR GREATEST HITS, THE RECORD." If you would like, you can refer to and read my review on this legendary compilation album when time permits.
And the audio never sounded better! This concert DVD edition is released in a special DTS Surround Sound so you can hear this concert the way it was truly intended to be heard or listened to. The DTS Surround Sound is like 3-D in sound that actually makes you feel like you are actually there in the audience.
As for THE BEE GEES music, I guess that you can say that their music speaks for itself. In my opinion, the "BEE GEES, ONE NIGHT ONLY" DVD concert is without a doubt, a true testament of the greatness, genius and musical creativity of three masterminded brothers. This legendary concert is also a fine fitting tribute to a great band that was truly indeed, way far ahead of their time. This concert is a trip down memory lane for all of us. This legendary historic concert is the story of THE BEE GEES, their music is their story. And now without further delay, it gives me great pleasure in taking all of you back in time to the MGM Grand Garden Arena at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1997 where THE BEE GEES are about to take the stage and make music history AGAIN!
It is now time to let the sound and music of THE BEE GEES to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking musically as it was originally and truly intended. "BEE GEES, ONE NIGHT ONLY" has and contains 32 legendary hits in all. This legendary concert begins with the forever BEE GEES brilliantly stamped trademark classic anthems "You Should Be Dancing," "Alone," "Massachusetts," the beautifully slow soothing "To Love Somebody," "I've Gotta Get A Message To You," "Words," "Closer Than Close," the beautifully slow "Islands In The Stream," "One," THE BEE GEES tribute to their late brother Andy Gibb, "Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away)," the electrifying "Night Fever," the beautifully and incredibly well arranged falsetto sung number "More Than A Woman," "Still Waters," "Lonely Days," "Morning Of My Life," "New York Mining Disaster 1941," the beautifully slow and angelic "Too Much Heaven," "I Can't See Nobody," "Run To Me," "And The Sun Will Shine," the amazing "Nights On Broadway," the beautifully slow soothing anthem "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart," "Heartbreaker," the beautifully slow and breathtaking anthem "Guilty," "Immortality," "Tragedy," "I Started A Joke," "Grease," the funkish "Jive Talkin'," one of the most beautifully slow orchestrated anthems ever, "How Deep Is Your Love," the legendary theme from Saturday Night Fever, "Stayin' Alive" and the explosive ending just like the way this legendary concert began, "You Should Be Dancing."
All in all, this is one hell of a concert that everyone of all ages should own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal DVD music collection. This legendary concert has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, after this legendary historic 1997 concert performance, THE BEE GEES were back on top and on top of the world where they truly belonged. Everything was fine in THE BEE GEES world until tragedy struck once again. On 12 January 2003, Maurice Gibb, one of the original founding members of THE BEE GEES would pass away and perhaps silence one of the all-time greatest bands in Rock n' Roll history forever. I realize that it would truly be extremely hard for the remaining two brothers to carry on without without their beloved brother. All I can say in this matter is that time slowly heals and only time will tell what will become of this legendary band in the future. One thing that is certain and for sure is that THE BEE GEES have forever left their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and their contributions, accomplishments and achievements will never be forgotten or denied. So here's to you Barry, Robin, the late great Maurice, and the late great Andy. Thanks for the great memories and moments. MAURICE GIBB LIVES! ANDY GIBB LIVES! And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I truly hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have truly enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also deeply hope that all of you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. THE BEE GEES FOREVER! R.I.P. MAURICE ERNEST GIBB, Born 22 December 1949, Died 12 January 2003 at age 54. Also R.I.P ANDREW ROY GIBB, Born 5 March 1958, Died 10 March 1988 at age 30. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.
Bee Gees - One Night Only - DTS.......2007-07-02
I love the Bee Gees, always have. The DTS version gives you that fantastic Bee Gees music as it should be heard ... no problem there, loved it. My only beef is the FULL SCREEN presentation ... UGH! I don't know if this thing ever came out in a WIDESCREEN version, but never saw it available.
Superb!.......2007-05-23
The BeeGees consistently awe and amaze me. The performance is incredible. I would highly recommend this dvd. The only disappointing thing is that my favorite BeeGees song (Love You Inside Out) is missing. But the songs that are here are so well done that I don't hesitate to give 5 stars.

Taped at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia on June 28, 2003, Matchbox Twenty's Show depicts a hard-working rock band in its prime and in its element. The full spectacle of Matchbox Twenty's More Than You Think You Are tour comes across, from the band's world-class lights to its lock-tight playing, recorded and mixed for 5.1-channel surround and shot in gloriously film-like high-definition video under the direction of Hamish Hamilton (Madonna, U2, Jennifer Lopez).
As on record, Matchbox Twenty's acute sensitivity to pop dynamics carries the day, showcasing drummer Paul Doucette's propulsive attacks, lead guitarist Kyle Cook's vocals and fretwork, and the soulful belting of lead singer-songwriter Rob Thomas. (The less said of Thomas's occasional piano playing, the better.) The concert itself is free from interview footage and other distractions, and the 45-minute documentary included on disc 2 is candid and focused, revealing the effort required to mount and execute an arena tour.
Dolby Digital 5.1 is the best way to hear the concert, even if you collapse it to stereo, as the Dolby 2.0 tracks are marred by matrixed SRS Circle Surround 5.1 encoding. The presence of the SRS processing is confusing, given the superior Dolby-only sound and the broad household penetration of Dolby-based AV receivers. Alas, there's no DTS surround mix (as advertised in print) or CD-quality PCM stereo mix. --Michael Mikesell

Simply Awesome.......2007-08-12
I have never been to a MB20 concert - not because I don't want to, but because I have only recently (this year) "discovered" what a talented band Matchbox Twenty are. If they tour in Oz in the future, hey I'm there!
This DVD really highlights several things for me (as a newbie of this band):
- Rob Thomas is a truly soulful, emotional singer with an astounding vocal depth who is able to rock the stadium with his strong, gritty voice, but also to bring tenderness to the simply brilliant "If you're gone" track with Kyle on the guitar
- Rob Thomas is a truly remarkable songwriter who is able to convey simple but meaningful themes of every day life in songs through melodies and words that just work!
- Kyle Cook's guitar skills are up there. You can see he really knows what he's doing, and he sounds awesome.
- Paul Doucette is a real creative powerhouse, and his vision for the lighting for the concert really made a difference to the vibe and enjoyment of the show for all.
- Adam Gaynor and Brian Yale were the other band members, but apart from playing their respective instruments during the concert, I could'nt tell what other contributions they made.
Overall, I really enjoyed this DVD. The music from their CDs really came alive with this performance for me. Rob clearly can sing live, not like some artists who are less than impressive outside of a controlled recording studio.
Kudos to Matchbox Twenty. Long live Matchbox Twenty.
Awesome.......2007-01-04
Matchbox Twenty is one of our favorite bands and my son's favorite rock star is Rob Thomas.
Sound Problems?.......2006-12-17
I don't have any special sound system, simply a standard television and cheapo DVD player but I had no problems with the sound on the DVD as others have mentioned. With that said, this is an essential for any Matchbox 20 fan. In fact, I'm bringing it home at Christmas for my aunt who also enjoys their music but has never been to a Matchbox 20 concert.
Great music.......2006-11-20
I loved the concert but the crowd noise was a little much, kind of drowned out the music at times. Loved the songs on the DVD...Rob Thomas is a musical wonder. I also ordered the VH1 Storytellers at the same time. I liked it better. Way cool.
Not a huge fan of concerts DVD's..........2006-11-15
I'm a lover of concerts, but not live CDs and DVDs just because it usually doesn't feel the same. That said, I've been meaning to purchase one of Jason Mraz's live DVD's because I've recently become a fan. All the reviews said the sound was horrible, so I wondered if maybe it was the people reviewing it that didn't get the whole live experience. I hopped over here because SHOW is my VERY FAVORITE live DVD and I figured I'd read great reviews. You're here, so you've read all the takes on the sound being horrible and whatnot. I'm wondering what DVD they were playing because I turn it up super loud and clean my house, feeling like I'm at a real Matchbox 20 concert--and I've seen them play once, Rob Thomas himself twice--yet there are complaints.
Listen, if you like Matchbox 20, this DVD is awesome. If you don't, this DVD is still awesome. I became a real Matchbox 20 fan after seeing 'em live. Maybe people are annoyed with sound because they're jealous they weren't there screaming their heads off too...
I'm about to get that Jason Mraz live. You can tell me this wasn't helpful, but I wish I would read more reviews like this...

Customer Reviews:
A great behind the scenes dvd.......2007-09-08
If you like this album and are interested in the technical details of how it was made, you'll love this dvd. Nice footage of Brian sitting behind the mixing board listening to, and separating the tracks he and Queen recorded so long ago. The average person might find this quite boring, but it's very enjoyable from a musicians standpoint.
An Excellent, In-Depth Look at a Queen Masterpiece (4.5 stars).......2006-11-08
In 1975, Queen were a band on the rise. They just had a hit single with "Killer Queen" off the "Sheer Heart Attack" and were set to release their 4th studio album. "A Night at the Opera" marked Queen's breakthrough, which spawned 2 hit singles, one of them being one of the most popular singles of all time. This song of course was "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie Mercury's epic, 6 minute long operatic force. John Deacon also contributed a delightful pop hit with "You're My Best Friend." It wasn't just these two singles that made this album so classic though.
Brian May and Roger Taylor give excellent, detailed descriptions of the work that went into recording and writing many of the songs off the album. "Death on Two Legs" was Freddie's heavy opener, and the DVD takes an excellent excerpt of a Mercury interview where he describes the idea behind the song. Brian May goes through his song structures and writing techniques for "The Prophet's Song", "'39", "Good Company" and "Sweet Lady." Roger Taylor explains the drum-work for "I'm in Love With My Car." However, John Deacon doesn't participate in any interviews, and Roger and Brian discuss how he wishes to live the "quiet life." If you are a Queen fan, this is great footage of the band members detailing the work done on these songs, and along with in-depth analysis and summaries of every song on the album, there are extras. Included is a live version of "Sweet Lady" at Hyde Park, Brian May's performance of "'39" and "Love of My Life", performed by Freddie and Brian.
This a worthwhile DVD if you are a Queen fan who loves this particular album, and are interested in how it was composed so brilliantly. Highly recommended to all fans of Queen.
A Great Companion for any Queen CD Collection.......2006-11-05
I'm a big fan of the 'Classic Albums' DVD series. As a fan, I'd rather see and hear about my favorite musicians' triumphs rather than their personal failures (ala' "Behind the Music"). If you're a fan of the group being profiled, you're going to enjoy the behind-the-scenes look at the making of their best-known album. I'm a Queen fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
There's a lot of archival footage of Queen's mid-70s stage act (though not of the footage shows the band in the studio actually recording their music). Brand-new interviews with both Brian May and Roger Taylor comprise the bulk of this DVD's running time. Brian and Roger are as soft-spoken and thoughtful as always and I've always appreciated their dry sense of humor. Roy Thomas Baker, the album's producer, also appears sporadically as do a handful of executves who were in power at Elektra Records when Queen were under contract there. (Elektra were Queen's American distributors at one time; I am surprised no one from EMI was interviewed as this was Queen's British label). There are some rock journalists and British DJs. A variety of minor rock celebrities (Nuno Bettencourt, Joe Perry) pop in but provide very little. Freddie Mercury, of course, only appears in grainy vintage TV interviews from the early 1980s. John Deacon apparently is letting his bass work speak for itself as he declined requests to be interviewed for this project.
There are many, many highlights to both Brian's and Roger's interviews. Brian, in particular, gently reminds us that although 'A Night at the Opera' was considered Queen's breakthrough album, it really exists in a continuity of musical styles and techniques going back to Queen's first album. Brian plays us excerpts of 'March of the Black Queen' and 'Procession' to bring the point home. It's always a delight to see Brian play his Red Special guitar (or an Ovation) to make a musical point, and Brian freely credits Freddie Mercury for authoring some of Queen's heaviest riffs. It's also a treat to hear Brian's solo acoustic takes on both '39' and 'Love of my Life.' Roger shares a wonderful story in which Groucho Marx gave his blessing to Queen's appropriation of the Marx Brothers' film title to their album, and its an anecdote that isn't often retold.
There are also a series of 'extras' which were apparently cut from the TV Special version of this DVD. For what it's worth, I would have prefered if these sequences were simply re-edited into the continuity of the video. Still, they are great to have and the DVD is stronger for their inclusion.
If you're a Queen fan (especially of the 1970s material), you'll definitely want to own this DVD. While Queen experts may already know most or all of the stories included here, it's a great tribute to one of rock music's most adventurous bands.
A Cool Masterpiece!..........2006-10-02
It was really a pleasure to see this DVD and realise the renewed personalities of drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May. If you remember after that Freddie passed away (RIP), they were really in a dark, gloomy mood. I don't remember their tranquility and peace of mind in an interview, since all happened, 6 years ago.
This DVD really is illustrative with an extensive analysis of the recording process song by song with Roy Thomas Baker and Brian May (I don't know if it had would been better to add the comments of Roy Thomas Baker about the making of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that appear in "THE MAGIC YEARS" vol. I), special Roger's drum demostration (almost a clinic!... If you aren't a drummer, with these tips you can understand better the Roger Taylor style), with good introspective interviews (and the reason of the John Deacon's disappearing of the musical scene), with people that lived the bankrup of the band in '74, and finally, the making of an extraordinary masterpiece: the A NIGHT AT THE OPERA album. It's interesting see the live footage and performances between one and another interview, and a good example of this is the live track "SWEET LADY" from the DVD LIVE AT THE HYDE PARK, '76... Good Luck!
very weak audio.......2006-09-07
I think their original intention was to give you an insight to the behind the scenes making of the album...what you end up with is a very light overview of what happened. Lacking the presence of Freddie and John Deacon...most of what you're hearing and seeing are assumptions and opinions of half a band. They really aren't sharing any secret studio tricks with you that hadn't been made available at earlier dates.
I agree with the other reviewer who commented....since when are Joe Perry...Nuno Bettencord and Ian Hunter considered Queen experts.....at least Ian was playing the same local London bar circuit back in the pre-fame days as Queen were..and was classified as "glam rock"..so they climbed up from the same streets.
I wasn't very pleased with the audio.....very weak output.
My bottom line opinion is: The remainer of Queen are just cashing in on anything they can use to generate more income. This video is just a trip down memory lane with some of the people involved in the making of a great album. Just as they are doing by touring with Paul Rodgers and billing themselves as Queen and Paul Rodgers....They need to come up with a new name to represent their project...Queen died when Freddie did....and John Deacon pretty much made his mind known when he refused to be a part of any further musical projects. Sometimes you need to let go and move on.

One Night Only (DTS)
Taped as a lavish cable television special in 1997, One Night Only trades on the Bee Gees' shape-shifting career as pop survivors. Over the course of 111 minutes, this straightforward concert, produced at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and groomed for both video and CD posterity, sprints through 31 songs from their past three decades. Even after the inevitable disco jokes are expended, and the jaundiced viewer contemplates the role hats, hairspray, and comb-overs now play in dressing the once stylishly long-haired troika, the Gibb brothers' signature vocal harmonies and hook-laden song craft beg respect. Casual listeners can't be blamed for equating the Bee Gees with the dance floor bonanza they reaped through 1978's Saturday Night Fever, yet that commercial zenith was actually the culmination of a comeback for a group that had seemed washed up by the early '70s. One Night Only thankfully takes an even-handed view of both their original late '60s hits ("Massachusetts," "To Love Somebody," "Lonely Days"), building from a cannily Beatle-browed vocal sound, and the '70s blue-eyed soul ("Jive Talkin'," "Nights on Broadway") that led them naturally into disco. The Fever hits are here, as are Gibb originals that clicked for other acts; the family circle also widens for a posthumous duet with their late brother, Andy Gibb, while Celine Dion gets star billing in the collaborative "Immortality." --Sam Sutherland
This Is Where I Came In: The Official Story of the Bee Gees
There have been a lot of durable family groups in popular music over the years, but it would be hard to name one that has lasted longer, and succeeded as consistently, as the Bee Gees. Barry Gibb and his younger twin brothers, Robin and Maurice, were making TV and radio appearances in Australia as early as 1960 before returning to their native England and joining the Beatles-led British Invasion, and they're still at it more than 40 years later. All of that is duly chronicled in this two-hour documentary (produced in 2000), along with a great deal more: the personal problems that led to a breakup in the early '70s; the unparalleled success of the Saturday Night Fever era; their occasional missteps and failures (e.g., the abominable Sgt. Pepper movie); the rise and tragic fall of brother Andy; the respect their success finally earned them in the '90s; and so on. The format is pretty standard; interviews, photos, home movies, and concert footage all contribute to a straight, chronological telling of the Bee Gees' tale. But no stone is left unturned, and the Gibb Brothers (not to mention everyone else who's interviewed) have plenty to say. Best of all, there's lots of the Bee Gees' music, including a video of the title track of the 2001 album This Is Where I Came In, after which the film is named. In the end, we're left with the impression the Bee Gees would probably want us to have: that these guys have written, recorded, produced, and performed literally hundreds of great songs. --Sam Graham

Absolutely Loved it.......2007-06-27
For fans of any era of the Bee Gees, this is an awesome selection to purchase. The live concert was great, it even contained a few songs not usually found on other albums, such as them singing Grease instead of that other guy on the soundtrack. Also includes Run To Me and Heartbreaker, both of which I don't have yet on CD, but will soon.
The biography story was especially great, maybe a bit long for some, (two hours I think), but really great for the devoted fan. This was recorded before Maurice died, so it's also interesting to hear them speak of each other and their love even before the tragedy. Also included on the DVD is their new video, This Is Where I Came In.
I shared the set with my mom who was a bit skeptical at first and doesn't often find time to watch such things, but she really loved it too, every minute of it she said. She's gonna buy her own copy asap, you should too.
The Official Story - Extraordinary experience.......2007-04-10
The previous reviews we read before getting this production fell short to what we got...not only a flashback to our 'Saturday Night Fever' times but also the lasting impression of knowing the real insights of their career, the toll in their family and the perseverance that still lasts. The B.G's have confirmed once more they are the greatest group ever (even beyond the Beatles). They cannot only sing but turn into lyrics the best of our human nature. Absolutely EXTRAORDINARY!
Bee Gees fan should buy........2007-01-16
This is a great combination of two dvd's with one chronicling the group's history and background and the other is one of their final live performances. One Night Only has many touching moments that span from their early music, their family, and their many movie soundtracks. A display of different generations who enjoy their music.
EXTRAORDINARY!.......2007-01-03
NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE WATCHED THIS DVD, I TRULY APPRECIATE THE QUALITY OF THE DVD PRODUCTION FORMAT AND THE PHENOMENALLY TALENTED BEEGEES
Great Music - Great Story.......2006-07-12
With this DVD/CD set you get a great concert by one of the greatest song writing and performing groups ever. Having enjoyed the music of the Bee Gees for almost 40 years, and never seeing them in concert, it was a real treat.
While I have enjoyed their music I was never aware of their story. Learning about the many profesional and personal ups and downs and the impact these events had on their music and lives, and in many cases resulting in some of their best songs, gave me a greater appreciation for their music.
Get this set.

On August 20th, 2005, on what would have been his 56th birthday, a statue of Phil Lynott was unveiled in Dublin's Grafton Street by his mother. There to witness the event were members of Thin Lizzy from throughout the band's career. Later that evening they joined forces under the leadership of Gary Moore for a concert that paid tribute to Lynott's memory. The core band of Moore, Jethro Tull bass player Jonathan Noyce and Thin Lizzy's one and only drummer, Brian Downey were joined by the stellar guitar talents of Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham and Eric Bell for a set of Lizzy and Gary Moore classics.

Lizzy fan.......2007-06-27
This one is worth it. Very good all the way around. Only problem is, you miss Phil so much listening to the songs. I loved it.
Gary is the man........2007-06-12
Only Gary Moore could do this right, and he does. Nice to see Brian Robertson, although he's not looking so good these days and was a little stiff on the guitar. Very enjoyable though!
Great moments, strange moments, bad moments.......2007-06-07
As with almost everything that Gary Moore releases, this DVD has great moments, strange decisions and bad moments. Let's check them:
1) Good factors: sound quality is excellent. Crisp, loud and clear. Brian Downey is playing very steady, as strong a drummer as ever. Gary is playing like hell. Man, this guy is s master of the six-strings. Scott Gorham: the Black Rose instrumental part is breathtaking. The guy played with conviction and hit every note right, enjoying the moment.
2) Strange: Gary beginning the show with a solo tune. Maybe he just wanted to warm up the audience... Also, maybe because the concert was an homage to Lynott, the bass player was extremely low profile, even vclearly being clearly professional and a great player. Not bringing Sykes was weird.
3) Bad moments: Brian Robertson. It hurted me to see the guy barely being capable of playing, It was clear he was going through the motions. An embarassing moment.
Gary singing at the top of his lungs. Subtlety is not a virtue of him... He sings the songs in a harsh and "brutal" manner, totally devoid of any of the nuances used by Lynott. This is annoying at sometimes.
In genereal, however, this ia a very worth purchase.
Scott Gorham Steals the Show.......2007-04-11
This is a great DVD if you like Thin Lizzy. Gary Moore, as always, performed impressively. His vocal & guitar performances were a top-notch. Robbo's guitar playing was, however, very poor. It was embarrassing to see him playing like that. He looked so uncomfortable on stage and he even suddenly stopped playing. In comparison, Eric Bell, now 60 years old, still has the chop and performed very well.
The highlight of the show was when Scott Gorham joined Moore. At 56, he still got that beautiful look! He smiled all the time, interacted with the crowd and never missed a note. He was so full of energy. I wish he had brought his Les Paul instead of the black Strat.
Full tilt guitar fest.......2007-03-21
This is the best sounding DVD I ever bought. Gary Moore is not IMO the best vocalist around but the dude can ROCK.. Pop open some FROSTY'S and twist a few up and Rock BTW play in in DTS it sounds awesome

Forboding Xmas Shocker.......2006-07-01
"Silent Night, Bloody Night" is a low-budget, poorly edited but compulsively watchable 70s horror flick concerning the escape of a maniac from a mental institution, with an ax (figuratively and literally) to grind with the citizens of a small community that has more dirty little secrets than Peyton Place. An abandoned mansion sits, menacingly in the dark of night, luring some of the town's most prominent members via whispering, creepy phone calls. But who is it? And why? The sheriff's daughter, Diane (Mary Woronov) meets the grandson of the home's original owner, Jeffrey Butler (James Patterson), and the two set out to investigate what is going on. It turns out that both of them are closer to the mystery than they would care to be - with many frightening turns and revelations that I wouldn't think of giving away. One thing about the film that is irritating (besides the choppy editing), is that the top-billed performer, Patrick O'Neal, has a brief bit early on as a real estate agent who, along with his attractive girlfriend (Astrid Hereen) is brutally butchered in the Victorian style bedroom of the ancestral home. Why wouldn't Patterson and Woronov be first in the credits, since their roles are far more prominent? John Carradine gives a very effective performance as the town mute who also has a past entangled with Jeffrey's grandfather, Wilfred Butler.
The shoestring budget can be frustrating at times, particularly during the flashback sequences, and the late night darkness makes viewing more difficult, but it also adds to the atmospheric quality of the production.
And if you know what's good for you, watch when you're not alone - or every noise you hear will make you think that you are the murderer's next target!
Very cheerful Christmas movie.......2004-08-06
I saw this back in 82 when WOR out of New York use to have their 'Fright Night' movies on Saturday nights at 12:00 midnight. I've always loved this movie and still think it's scary to this day. The phone calls and sepia toned flasback scene are especially creepy. This will probably sound totally stupid to most people but I like the way this looks on the DVD release. Yes the picture quality is murky and sometimes its hard to see whats going on in a few of the scenes but that's the way these movies looked back when I use to catch them on those late night fright shows and I kinda like remebering them that way.
One of the best horror movies you've never heard of.......2004-08-05
I purchased Silent Night Bloody Night as part of a Horror Classics set at Best Buy, and I've got to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Not that it was a perfect movie, but one of the better "b" movies that I've seen. Maybe not quite as good as movies like Black Christmas, Terror Train, etc., but not bad.
First, the bad things. The movie honestly is pretty slow moving, mediocre acting (but no worse than most other "b" movies), and lousy picture & sound quality. Also, the ending to the movie wasn't overly dramatic (but it was acceptable), but I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the movie.
But, despite these few criticisms, the movie was well directed, and the creator of the movie definitely knows what "horror" is. Creepy score, suspenseful in that the killer's identity is hadden until the end of the movie and you don't get to see too much of the killer too soon in the movie, and a couple of graphic scenes in the film that got my attention. Just enough gore to be effective, but not over the top.
If you don't like slow moving, low budget movies, then you probably won't like Silent Night Bloody Night, but for most of you, I think it's definitely worth watching at least once.
Silent Night , Sort of Bloody night.......2004-04-29
This was an interesting film that was par for the time it was made. The filming was sort of interesting especially when showing the view of the serial killer(The First person view sort of speak). The story was pretty good yet a tad over the top but as you know most horror films are a bit over the top. There is one really bloody scene at the beggining of the film that was graphic but after that don't espect too much blood. I thought this scene was done well and pretty graphic even for today's times. The music in this film is a bit hokey on certain parts but not too bad. The acting was not horrible but it was'nt great either. The part of the film that really stands out to me is the flashback scene. This really made the film spooky. The strange filming it used and the crazy story it explaned helped me like the movie alot more than I otherwise would have. The dvd version I saw came in a four horror film pack called horror classic's. I thought the sound could have been improved and certain scenes could have been transfered more clearly to the dvd but I guess I should just be glad it was even made into dvd format. Overall I think the film is worth a watch or two late at night.
Watchable...kinda........2004-03-26
SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT is one of the earliest of the "slasher" flicks. It inspired such movies as BLACK CHRISTMAS and to a lesser extent, SCREAM. There are a lot of things in this movie that have become staples of slasher films, such as the maniac calling the victims on the phone, and keeping the viewers guessing as to the identity of the killer.
The plot for this movie is a good, albeit simple one. The killer calls the eventual victims and lures them to a house where they meet their eventual demise. However, there are a lot of sub plots (rivaling the nighttime soaps Dallas and Dynasty!) that I found a little difficult to keep up with. Like EVIL DEAD, almost the entire movie takes place in a single night (with the exception of flashbacks, obviously). But unlike EVIL DEAD, there isn't really enough action to sustain it.
The cast is pretty well stocked, with early scream queen Mary Woronov, Patrick O'Neal and John Carradine (who was pretty much wasted in his role). The acting is sufficient to above average, but don't look for anything outstanding here. And although the writing suffers a little in my opinion, there is a lot of well-written dialogue in this film.
The base plot is as follows: Wilfred Butler dies, and leaves his house, grounds and all the belongings (which was used as an insane asylum for a few years) to his only surviving relative (isn't it always that way?), Jeff Butler. The only condition is that he has to keep the house in the same state that it was when he owned it. Jeff adheres to his grandfather's wishes for twenty years, but finally decides to sell it. PLOT POINT: The news travels to a local insane asylum, where we see an escape, but we don't know who it is that escapes. I don't think the writers did, either.
Shortly afterwards, Jeff's lawyer and his mistress arrive to sell the house, and decide to stay in the house overnight. Big mistake. They're the first victims in this new round of killings. Their murders are both violent and bloody. The rest of the film shows the killer luring the victims to the house over the phone. The killer goes by the name Mary Ann, who happens to be Jeff's mother, who as far as he knows died in childbirth. And his father turns out to be none other than his grandfather! The ending itself could have been written a lot better, but the person who turns out to be the killer is a bit of a surprise. But alas, that too turned into a letdown.
The biggest problem with this film is the lighting, or lack thereof. Almost the entire movie is filmed at night, and there seems to be little, if any lighting. There's a scene in the local newspaper office (run by Carradine) where the entire shot seems to be lighted by the single lightbulb hanging from the ceiling! Even the flashlights aren't powerful on this movie (the scene from BLAIR WITCH PROJECT with Heather holding the flashlight to her face is reminiscent of this).
Overall, it's watchable. But the poor lighting, confusing sub-plots and the bad ending pulls it down from a three to a two.

einstein.......2006-11-10
This is an excellent and entertaining DVD. Only people in England know what this is - and it is for charity - with lots of rockers - including Clapton donating their time for a fun night of great music. In Surrey, it is done annual on the estate of a very wealthy man - and the dress is tuxes and gowns - and lots of champagne.
Great music - a show - fun! Definitely worth the price if you like classic rock, new rock and those English rockers!
a biased review.......2006-11-05
As I'm a huge fan of EC's I had no doubt of buying this DVD as it shows a not very known side of EC's, with him usual collaboration through Band Du Lac's mates....
Of course the best songs are the ones leaded by...Eric...very good ones are the tracks sang by Paul Carrack....However, The set list could be much better...two famous drummers Ringo Starr and Rogert Taylor should restrict themselves to their initial instrument, not singing...Overall, it is a good DVD, specially for huge fans of EC, like me.
classy union of great musicians........2006-08-01
Clapton, Brooker, Carrack, and others...and such a nice and talented young musician,Katie Melua...atmosphere of concert
area..well performed blues and rock samples.
Features of this DVD in all aspects is CLASSY.
Not very good..........2006-07-13
yes Clapton is there and Gary Booker but the venue sucks - although the widescreen video quality looks pretty good on an HDTV - I wish I could get my $$$$ back..............
GREAT MUSICIANS, BAD PRODUCTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-25
I WILL BEGIN BY SAYING THAT I OWN OVE 250 DVD CONCERTS. OF THOSE 250 DVD'S , THIS RANKS AS THE WORST VIDEO PRODUCTION I'VE EVER SEEN.I WOULD GIVE THIS DVD -0 STARS IF POSSIBLE. THE CAMERA WORK IS HORRID. I'M SO TIRED OF SAYING THE SAME OLD STATEMENTS ABOUT VIDEO PRODUCERS. I'M ALSO TIRED OF PAYING GOOD MONEY FOR CRAP LIKE THIS. HASN'T THE MTV GENERATION VIDEO PRODUCERS GONE TO REST HOMES BY NOW OR BECOME CAR SALESMEN. I GUESS NOT BECAUSE HERE IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF 2 SECOND VIDEO EDITING WITH IN AND OUT OF FOCUS CAMERAS WITH MULTIPLE CROWD SHOTS FROM 600 FEET AWAY TO 6 INCH CLOSE UPS OF PEOPLES FACES
IN 2 SECONDS. HAS ANY OF THESE PRODUCERS AND VIDEO EDITORS EVER BEEN TO A CONCERT AS A FAN? NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CRAP !!!

Mostly classic.......2007-07-05
Unlike many of the budget priced DVD sets, FRIGHT NIGHT CLASSICS features one movie per disc. Thus, eight films = eight DVDs. There's only a single clunker in this set-- one of those "shot in a week" Philippino specials. The rest range in quality from not bad to really good. Film-to-DVD transfers of ST. CLAIR DVDs tends to be quite fine.
For the ultimate in fright films, check out the HORROR 100 MOVIE PACK. It's a monumental collection of monsters, freaks and the undead.
