mr anderson is a wrong!!!.......2007-09-06
This documentary is very well done.Faster than light is possble IF you know about micro wave technology, megnetic wave technology, and and infra red wave technology. We have barely scrached the surface of these power emiting technologies. This documentary is a ver good, sober and thought provoking subject. We disbielieve the govermant on iraq but accept what they say about UFO'S!!??
4 Definitive Reasons..........2007-09-04
...why aliens have never visited us:
1. The laws of physics don't allow it
Folks, the nearest star is 4 light years away. This means it takes light 4 years to travel from there to Earth. In order for space travel to be realistic you would need a craft that travels greater than the speed of light. Unfortunately, in order for matter to travel AT the speed of light you would need an infinite amount of energy. Apparently the aliens have a gas tank that holds multiple infinite amounts of energy.
2. The Federal Government is one of the most incompetent entities ever created
One argument for lack of evidence is due to the government's ability to keep people from talking. Gee, why don't the feds use this fabulous influence they have over people to stop murder, rape, robbery, etc. They couldn't keep Watergate or Iran-Contra a secret, but somehow they are able to keep a lid on the greatest story in human history (for 60-some years, no less)?
3. MONEY!!!
People risk their lives & freedom every day for relatively paltry amounts of money compared to what could be earned being the first person to come forward with credible evidence of itelligent alien life. Successful theives, robbers, embezzlers, spies and the like are paupers compared to these potential riches.
4. YouTube
The use of video & photographic technology has ballooned in the past 30 years. You'd think at the very least a chance encounter would have been captured by now; certainly there are enough people walking around with the technology right in their pockets to make this happen, yet there is still no *definitive* evidence of aliens or their spaceships.
When a documentary like this appears on 60 Minutes instead of the SciFi Channel then I'll start paying attention.
Brilliant Film.......2007-04-12
This documentary has some interviews that I'm amazed took place at all. In fact, 2 of the people interviewed died shortly after. *Spooky Music Plays*
For those of you who are looking at the $239 price tag on this thing, don't worry, because this film is being re-made as we speak. New soundtrack, new interviews, and I'm sure a few other goodies to boot.
This DVD is well worth seeing. If you have an abundance of cash, go ahead and buy this original version. If not, hold on a while and get the updated version once it hits the scene.
UFO: reality bites.......2007-02-11
"Out of the Blue" is a really interesting doco presenting both a worldwide collated visual data on UFO, and political games surrounding the phenomena unexplained.
A DVD set of "The KGB Secret Files" about space abductions, UFO and alliances is a logical extension to info this film has provided.
a review from a discerning Christian's perspective.......2007-02-02
This was a pretty intriguing video. Anytime you have a collection of testimony of UFO's from generals, presidents, and astronauts, along with footage of "UFO's", you got a darned entertaining video.
A few knocks against it before I make the faint theoretical biblical tie-in. This ting is way expensive and hard to track down for cheap (I've never seen a DVD go from like 15 bucks to $120 used!!! What's up? Can't the producers, or discovery channel, or whoever make some more of these if they're so popular? The government doesn't really give a hoot, methinks, do they?)
Another bone I have to pick: Don't the supposed "UFO" sightings in Bejing, China and the Miami skyline LOOK REMARKABLY LIKE BLIMPS REFLECTING LIGHT!!!?????
I find it hard to believe that they're anything else considering that like only one guy with a camera took the time to spot this thing if it really was a UFO when there's like millions of people around these two areas, especially.
Anywho, the Phoenix deal is very compelling; it would help if the video focused a little more on the many more photos of that deal that I think exist,... and to be balanced perhaps question military officials on what else it could be, like some type of holographic weapons design or something.
As for "UFO's" in the bible? Well, there are a number of far left theories about the "cloud of fire" that traveled around Moses and the like. I've also seen documentaries in which fairly dated paintings of the Virgin Mary and the Christ child have what appear to be a metallic disc in the air in the background. The vision of Ezekiel (Ezekiel chapter 1) is certainly a compelling story about beings looking out from windows of discs, "wheels within the wheels", in which the bible declares that "the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels" -- a clear indication that these supposedly angelic beings were operating in some type of mechanical transport. If Godly angels operate using these things... then what about the fallen angels taking advantage of technology? That of course is where the extreme right church view comes in: that all UFO's are either demonic deception or actually demons themselves in transport.
For an open, yet not-too-fanatical biblical debate on the matter, I suggest checking out Pastor Chuck Missler (of Calvary Chapel) and some of his teachings, which include a video entitled "Return of the Nephilim" I believe. This biblical theory suggests that the flood came because angels (the sons of God) came into the "daughters of men" (Genesis 6) producing a race of supposed supernatural beings denoted as the nephilim (which are actually the UFO aliens). Pretty interesting theories; many in the Calvary Chapel movement, for the record, totally despise the guy.
And while you're there on Missler's site, you can check out stuff about Jesus. He's pretty interesting too, you know.
Speaking of, one reviewer (John Marvel) states that people who follow this stuff are doing so out of ignorance and boredom. I suggest looking at that cat's reviews. Yeah, .....sleepers. And most of his reviews are on stuff he himself gave a one star rating!!! How sad is that? Who's got the mundane life now, buddy?

If you're a ten-year-old girl, this sequel to Disney's 2001 hit will completely transfix you. How could it not? Bubbly Mia (Anne Hathaway), the American teenager who in the first film learned she was actually European royalty, finishes college and--whoosh!--heads off to Genovia, where he's given a closet full of fabulous clothes and jewelry in preparation to rule the kingdom under the tutelage of grandmother Julie Andrews. Throw in a horse and a volatile but innocent romantic attraction to the dreamy young stud (Chris Pine) who's also vying for the throne, and you have the kind of stuff that prepubescent girls rhapsodize about at slumber parties. Oh--and there's a slumber party here, too, featuring a bevy of cute, international young princesses mattress-surfing down a giant slide. Resistance is futile. For the rest of us, though, director Garry Marshall has managed to make his Laverne & Shirley days seem positively Shakespearean in comparison. The movie is precious, padded (two hours!), and pandering twaddle; Andrews, in her role as Queen Mother, is even shoehorned into a faux-hip-hop duet with Disney Channel favorite Raven (one of many, many grueling moments intended to sell the soundtrack). Then the film takes a maddening left turn three-quarters of the way into the plot and decides that, despite all the preceding consumption and connubial fantasies to the contrary, it's really about feminine emancipation. But don't worry--what causes you to smack your forehead in frustration will go right over the heads of its hypnotized target market. --Steve Wiecking
Description
Starring the irresistible Anne Hathaway (ELLA ENCHANTED) and Academy Award(R) winner Julie Andrews (Best Actress, MARY POPPINS, 1964), this modern-day fairy tale picks up right where THE PRINCESS DIARIES left off! As future queen of Genovia, Princess Mia (Hathaway) has everything a girl could want -- except the magical romance she's always dreamed of. But soon, Mia's shocked to discover that she needs to get married right now or her family will lose the crown! Comic complications rule the day in this delightful family story about finding out who you really are and discovering what it takes to make your dreams come true!

Princess Becomes a Princess.......2007-03-28
A wonderful, enjoyable sequel to the original Princess Diaries. The characters exhibted the same lovable qualities, i.e. they stayed in character. A marvelous rags to riches story which really brought a conclusion to the lives and loves of the characters, especially
the Queen.
2nd in series of modern fairy tale.......2007-03-19
This 2nd movie about the geek turned princess is almost as good as the first. She's 5 years older and nearly ready to take the throne of Genovia but needs a few more lessons from her grandmother the Queen. She also has to deal with the fact that before she can be Queen herself she has to marry. In 30 days. It's hilarious to watch as she tries to become more sophistocated and elegant like her grandmother and goes through suitors to find Mr. Right. Anne Hathaway is even more stunning and has some great moments. Julie Andrews is fantastic and the guys are pretty cute.
A sequel that works!.......2007-03-16
The Disney Studios still have that magic touch, with Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway how could it not? An enjoyable modern-day fairly tale perfect for tweens and the elderly.
The Prncess Diaries 2.......2007-03-09
The disc are in excellent condition. They arrived on time. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Excuse me--what century is this?.......2007-02-11
My mom likes movies that have happy endings. She doesn't care if they're dumb: they just have to fulfill her little escapist fantasies. Often I wish that I could be like that, myself; that I could just watch an idiotic, fluffy chick flick and not roll my eyes at every scene or gag at the bad writing; that I, too, could have found this movie silly but enjoyable. You see, though, I have a problem: I cannot turn off my brain. If you share my deficiency, perhaps you should read my review and take my warnings into account. If you CAN turn off your brain, well, enjoy the movie.
For the record, I haven't read the books. I tried to read a Meg Cabot novel once and gave up after about the third page of the girl going "Oooh, I'm SO INDEPENDENT AND SASSY. I am truly the heroine to root for!"
I tried to find reasons for it. I mean, I like a lot of predictable chick flicks. Heck, before my mom turned on the Princess Diaries 2 I had been rewatching the Kim Possible movie that was airing on the Disney Channel. What was different about this movie? Why was I just not getting into it? Surely, there must have been SOME reasons.
First off, I blame the romances. It wasn't a good sign when the movie wrote off Michael like a bad Mary Sue fanfic: I mean come on, only ONE line that was just "Oh, the supposed love of my life is off touring with his band. And I'm totally fine with it, because it's not like the first movie stressed that I was head-over-heels in love with him... oh, wait." I'm not going to be like the girls here who absolutely hate that he wasn't in it, because I wasn't that fond of the romance in the first movie, but I absolutely hate when sequels do that. It was like Pocahontas 2 (another terrible sequel): "Hey, guess what, John Smith? I like John Rolfe now, even though the first movie basically said that we were soul mates and completely meant for each other!" At least, though, Pocahontas 2 didn't relegate John Smith to being written off in ONE LINE. That's just sloppy writing. If I'd cared about the couple, I would probably be pretty mad.
Anyway, sorry for my tangent. The problem is that we're introduced to two new guys: hot British Guy (Andrew,) and Pretty Boy Who's Being Puppeteered by His Machiavellian Uncle But Is Actually Really Nice Deep Down (Nicholas.) Mia has no chemistry with hot British guy (possibly due to the writing, because, like David Boreanz, if the guy is cute enough he can have chemistry with ANYONE.) This is okay though, because she's not supposed to. But then there's Pretty Boy, who is supposed to make Mia realize that while her pairing with Hot British Guy is a lot more practical and useful, she needs true romance in her life. (A sidenote: Oh God, please Disney, STOP with the arranged marriage crap. Mulan 2's premise was based entirely on the notion that "Arranged Marriages are BAD even though they actually had a pretty high success rate!" And poor Mia, having to marry a cute prince of her choice! I TRULY felt for her.) The problem is, Mia had no chemistry with that guy! And let me stress something: when the plot involves Mia cheating on someone with someone else, that someone else had better be someone who, when he is with her, heats up the screen. The whole love/hate premise, too, relies on how much chemistry they have. When they were arguing, I never got the feeling "Oh, just make out already!" I'm serious. You need Monica and Richard from Friends-level chemistry, or at least something more than "He's cute so I guess I'll like him." I don't even know why Mia liked him. I never did.
Next, I blame the plot. I already got into the arranged marriage issue, but when they introduced the villain, Pretty Boy's Uncle, he says something like "You wouldn't want to lose that crown: other people may grab it." We are subtly given the message that this guy is someone on whom we should keep an eye. But then the writers, thinking that its audience is absolutely stupid, makes him add "Like me." Oh, thanks writers, I NEVER would have gotten that. So nice that you took the time to clear that up. Then there are all of these references to The Prince (no, not the guy who performed at the Super Bowl Half Time Show) just to fool those of us above the age of 11 into thinking that we were watching something remotely intelligent. Nice try, movie.
Next is the movie's fatal flaw: the happy kingdom of Genovia. First off, what the heck kind of government does Genovia have? If it's a constitutional monarchy, Mia's going to be pretty disappointed in what she can all do. If it's not, which I think it is because I sort of got that Monarchy vibe, is this not the 21st century? Is our need for princesses so great that we'll take a leaf out of Hobbes's book? And what kind of name is Genovia, anyway? Couldn't Ms. Cabot have chosen a name that didn't sound completely made up? And couldn't they at least chose one uniform accent? I think Italian would have worked; Genovia seemed more Italian than anything. Anyway, we're supposed to believe that Genovians are these happy people who just LOVE having a Queen and even better if she's a 21-year-old (that's barely even legal to drink back in the USA) foreigner whom they barely know! YAY! And servants are also happy people with no needs of their own, who will do anything to please their princess, including tap routines? Again, this is probably because of that problem of not being able to turn off my brain that I have, but what kind of message is that? Even in the 18th century people were writing about servants who were wittier and more cunning than their masters, who had more of a purpose than just to serve them. Is such a gigantic step backwards necessary just to give a young girl a happy princess fantasy?
Basically, Genovia in this movie reminded me so much of Ancien Regime France vibe that all I could do was wonder when the people would get fed up enough and the Revolution would happen. I can see it now: Princess Diaries 3: Off With Her Head! Wouldn't that make a good movie? At least it'd have a REAL plot instead of some tripe chick flick-arranged marriage nonsense. Really, I'd watch it. In fact, if you're reading this, Disney, give me a call. I truly think that I have something here. Also, with the way Mia was spending money (People are poor here? Oh, we must help them even though my closet is probably bigger than most Genovians' kitchens! And they must be orphans! Everyone LOVES orphans!) I'm not sure how long those royal funds will last.
Another issue I think is that, well, we know nothing about Genovia other than that they have a lucrative pear industry. And, the audience probably being mostly American, we're most likely not apt to buy into that patriotic royalist stuff. Honestly, even most British people that I know insult their own monarchy on a regular basis. What is the Genovian history? What has kept them so placated? Have they tried other government systems before and decided that this one worked best? Surely not all of the rulers have been Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway's deceased father; there must have been some inept and possibly tyrannical Kings and/or Queens beforehand. And surely some years there must have been some meager pear harvests, which if we take the impression from the lavicious palaces and suites in which the royalty reside, would not have hampered royal spending. Come on, even in Aladdin the people were shown as impoverished and pretty miserable while the Sultan sat in the palace playing with his toys. Must Disney shelter its audiences to the point where it's ridiculous? All we're shown in this movie as to the darker side of Genovia are orphans. Please, Disney, I'm begging you: dig a LITTLE deeper. Or at least ditch the stereotypical "eager-to-please" servants; while I know you intended them to be humorous, the portrayal was stupid and in truth maybe even a little offensive.
I won't skewer the "Girl Power" moments in the film because, honestly, they really do it to themselves. I did, however, laugh when they had Raven Simone in it. And she was singing. Every Disney show/movie MUST have Raven in it, and at some point she must sing. It's a given. I was infuriated though that she got to sing with Julie freaking Andrews. That was like Michael Bolton singing "O soave fanciulla" from La Boheme with Renee Fleming on his CD. Sad.
Anyway, like I said, if you can turn off your brain and not analyze things to death like I do, you might enjoy this movie. If you are more like me though, you should probably avoid it. Especially if someone who likes it is watching it, because at some point she'll probably kick you out of the room after one too many snarky comments.

Jack Campbell (Nicolas Cage) is the quintessential Wall Street shark, scoring killer deals by day and shallow escort sex by night. His round-the-clock routine of empty luxuries is disturbed one lonely Christmas Eve when a gun-packing punk (Don Cheadle)--perhaps an angel of mercy--responds to an altruistic gesture from Jack by giving him "a glimpse" of the life he could have had. Could have, that is, if he had married the girlfriend (Téa Leoni) he'd abandoned 13 years earlier, raised two adorable children, worked in his father-in-law's retail tire outlet, and lived happily ever after in suburban New Jersey. Thrust into this "glimpse" of the path not taken, Jack's a single-malt man in a lite-brew world, wondering if he'll ever return to his "better" life of callous wealth and solitude--or if he even wants to.
Carp all you want about this derivative premise, with its marginal stereotypes and biased embrace of domestic bliss and dirty diapers. The simple fact is, The Family Man works like a charm. Under the assured direction of Brett Ratner (Rush Hour), this holiday crowd-pleaser offers comedy and chemistry in equal measure, making the hilarity of Jack's predicament a smooth catalyst for that rarest of movie romances: the marital love story. Leoni is Cage's perfect match as Jack's idealized but imperfect wife, and the movie's appeal largely derives from its awareness that any life has its pleasures and pains. While it only flirts with the dark desperation that makes It's a Wonderful Life a classic predecessor, The Family Man is an irresistible what-if fantasy, and even its debatable ending rides on a wave of genuine warmth and sentiment. --Jeff Shannon

feel good movie.......2007-07-22
I love watching this movie when I feel sentimental. I first saw it in theaters, then would catch it on t.v. at the holiday time. I decided I should own my own copy for viewing whenever I wanted and I do not regret buying it. This movie is funny and warm. Nicolas Cage is very believable and funny. Tea Leoni is warm and witty and the kids are too cute for words. This movie always makes my husband want to hold my hand when we watch it. The story has the ability to make you feel happy with a mundane life of paying bills and raising kids.
movie.......2007-07-17
i'm sure it's a great movie, but i wouldn't know because it was a gift for a friend. the package did arrive pretty early, so no complaints there.
A good movie for the family.......2007-06-06
This is an inspriation movie that helps you take pause in your life and consider possibility. Nicolas Cage has once again done an excellent job of taking the character and making them real. This is a movie that I share with my family and that we all enjoy and talk about. It's in my library and shall remain their for quite some time.
Truly disappointing; leaves a bad taste.......2007-03-26
This is the typical film that looks uplifting when you see it, but that when afterwards you start thinking about it, you realize how phony and manipulative it is. Here, Nicolas Cage is an arrogant yuppie businessman in Manhattan, who one day wakes up and finds himself in a paralell world, living a supposedly dreadful life in suburban New Jersey with his wife (her former girlfriend, in his previous life) and his (previously non existent) kids. The beautiful Tea Leoni, as the wife, deserved better than to be in this movie. The movie chastises the main character for not raising a family, yet the film shows family life as dreadful. The idea that Nicolas Cage had to sacrifice a family in order to get ahead in business is also phony. Most male yuppies are married; it's the women that usually have to made those sacrifices. Also, this movie is supposedly critical of heartless capitalism, yet it ends up celebrating it.
Family First - Always.......2007-03-19
"Don't screw up the best thing in your life just because you're a little unsure about who you are."
I don't know how many married guys can recall it, but I know the exact time I decided to finally take the plunge with my then-girlfriend (now my wife). It was about an hour after I watched Nicolas Cage's Family Man, a full-wonder story about a wealthy Wall Street guy, Jack, given a glimpse of the non-wealthy life he could have lived had he not gotten on a plane and be separated from his then-girlfriend almost 2 decades ago.
The transitional moments, from big-time dealer to small-time salesman, are hilarious. Used to waking up alone or with girls he just met, Jack wakes up with a wife and two kids and a dog jumping all over him. He rushes away to his sky-scraper to see his name - next to President - replaced by his junior. He tries to get into premium condo but the doorman doesn't recognize him and blocks his entrance. He struggles to change his baby son's, Josh, diapers. He has to ask his daugher, Annie, what the after-school S.O.Ps' are. He curses when his junior appears on TV shaking hands with a two corporate presidents whose merger his (ex-)company has arranged.
But then Jack learns - or discovers - the joy of loving and living in spite of financial want, in spite of the no-cushion savings, in spite of not having that suit which makes him "feel like a man" (but which requires taking out his kids' education fund). He misses his trappings of status but grows to love Kate, Annie and Josh more than anything in the world. The quote at the start, by Arnie his friend, captures Jack's seizing and holding on to a family he knows he loves without having to figure out entirely this new world he's been thrown into.
Sorrow beckons, though, when he realises he has to 'leave' this dream-like alternate reality which he started out hating but ended up cherishing. When the moment comes, it's full of dread, because he's back to his old super-wealthy but no-family life. He drives to the house belong to "him and Kate" but there's just a guy there who doesn't know any Kate. The real Kate is now a hot-shot lawyer, who's just packing up and about to transfer to Paris.
Final drama arrives when Jack rushes to the airport looking for Kate, and trying to stop her before she flies off. Remember we are already in the "real world" and Jack has stopped 'dreaming'.
He creates some commotion because Kate is already at the departure gate and about to board, and she keeps saying, "Jack, do you need closure?" which is probably what any woman would say if her boyfriend from 15 years ago, started pestering her about what "could have been". Kate then turns towards the gate and walks away. Jack is about to give up when he suddenly turns to Kate and desperately cries out to describe the alternate reality he's lived through with an alternate her:
"We have a house in Jersey. We have two kids, Annie and Josh. Annie's not much of a violin player, but she tries real hard. She's a little precocious, but that's only because she says what's on her mind. And when she smiles...
"And Josh, he has your eyes. He doesn't say much, but we know he's smart. He's always got his eyes open, he's always watching us. Sometimes you can look at him and you just know he's learning something new. It's like witnessing a miracle.
"The house is a mess but it's ours. After 122 more payments, it's going to be ours. And you, you're a non-profit lawyer. That's right, you're completely non-profit, but that doesn't seem to bother you.
"And we're in love. After 13 years of marriage we're still unbelievably in love. You won't even let me touch you until I've said it. I sing to you. Not all the time, but definitely on special occasions. We've dealt with our share of surprises and made a lot of sacrifices but we've stayed together.
"You see, you're a better person than I am. And it made me a better person to be around you. I don't know, maybe it was just all a dream. Maybe I went to bed one lonely night in December and I imagined it all. But I swear, nothing has ever felt more real.
"And if you get on that plane right now, it'll disappear forever. I know we could both go on with our lives and we'd both be fine, but I've seen what we could be like together. And I choose us."
Little did Cage & Co. know that six years later, there would be another movie with another husband, another wife and another two kids (plus another dog which looked like the dog in Family Man). This movie is also about family and getting a glimpse into a major What-If. Whilst Cage started out in a scenario he did enjoy and ended back in the same situation he later detested, the main character of this movie starts out being "tired with his life", but ends back in the same situation an entirely changed man, thoroughly grateful for the life he has (as opposed to the life he thought he had lost).
I'm talking about Adam Sandler's Click. But I won't ruin two movies at one go (smile), so I'll end with the theme which unites these two masterpieces: Family is first, the job is completely secondary. Never take for granted the ones who love you, no matter what riches beckon and no matter how attractive alternatives may appear to be.

A must for every classroom.......2007-09-07
Michael Hoffman was able to catch the exact essence of what it takes to be successful, not only on the blue turf, but in life itself. Through interviews with the players, their families and members of the BSU staff, we get a priviledged view of the makings of a true to life dream team. This documentary should be shown in every classroom in this country. It's about overcoming adversity, the American work ethic, what character and integrity is all about, and the building of confidence. You can't watch this show without feeling like you learned a life lesson just by watching it. Highly recommend it even if you're not a huge football fan.
Does our Broncos proud!.......2007-09-05
Of course, I'm a bit biased. This film, however, is wonderful. Upon first hearing about this, I thought it would be another cheesy documentary that will be forgotten in 6 months. Michael Hoffman is a great filmmaker, and his use of all aspects of production is superb. It doesn't hurt that the scenery, players, coach, and, of course, our beloved Blue are there to make things (even) more interesting.
If you loved the Fiesta Bowl as much as the Boise, Idaho fans, you will enjoy this for both the story and the doc itself.
GO BRONCOS!
Out of the Blue.......2007-08-28
What an inspirational show. This documentary proves that through a combination of heart, attitide and the belief in one another-now this is ultimate gift! Everyone can learn from these life lessons and experiences. Thank you Boise State for offering to share your vision- to never give up and never let anyone tell you that you don't belong.
GO BRONCOS.
Blue is UP not down.......2007-08-25
"Out Of The Blue" Is a story of more than just football, it's a story of building character, pride and personal responsability. Who we are off the football field, after the game is over,is every bit as important as playing the games themselves. Very few of our beloved Bronco's go on to the N.F.L, yet all of our beloved Bronco's become Pro's in life of one form or another after the stands are empty and the lights go out. The insperation is genuine, the story true, so sit back and enjoy the blue collar hard work it takes to build a nation, the Bronco nation. From the coaches and staff, to the players and fans. There's a little bit of 'Bronco' in all of us.
From two fans to you

Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a Gentleman) directed this 1993 epic about Chicano gang wars in the California prison system and the differing and tragic paths of three boyhood friends. Half-brothers Paco and Cruz grow up with their cousin Miklo in Chicano Los Angeles, and each in turn is influenced by their violent environment and the prevalence of drugs on their streets. Cruz becomes an artist but winds up tragically addicted to heroin, while Miklo serves time for murder and Paco becomes a cop, setting the stage for a confrontation between the two when Miklo is released from prison. The film strives for an epic feel but takes too long to set up its interweaving stories. It is notable, however, for some fine acting on the part of Benjamin Bratt and Damian Chiapa, as well as smaller roles by Billy Bob Thornton, Ving Rhames and Delroy Lindo. Its depictions of life in the California prison system are harrowing and powerful, and serve as the centerpiece of this urban drama. --Robert Lane
Description
Now, from the director of AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN and the producer of LA BAMBA comes BLOOD IN ... BLOOD OUT, a critically acclaimed modern-day epic. Within the rich and colorful Chicano culture of East Los Angeles, three cousins raised as brothers fiercely live by a generations-old tradition of family -- a power stronger than law, a force deeper than friendship. In one life-shattering moment, the trio is torn apart, forcing them to follow three separate paths: one searching for truth in the law, one expressing his passion through art, and one finding power in prison. Yet through it all, family and honor keep their lives intertwined as each strives for survival and power!

BLOOD OUT!!!.......2007-08-12
This movie was lame! Bag acting, bad dialogue, bad directing, just bad! Who said chicanos like benjiman bratt should look like jewish homies, and Meklo are a typical chicano name, Ha Ha! the only positive thing I can say about this flick is it does end.
Blood in( my cash) Blood out( should have killed myself for watching it)

Get everything situated, because this is a long one.But it's worth watching.I enjoyed this movie a lot.
Finally! A prison drama with something to say........2007-04-03
I think what seperates this movie from other prison movies is there's a much bigger message to be learned, and it's not just stay away from prison (we all know that by now). However, there's more to it, and this movie shows you that. Don't get me wrong, you still have the same violent, death by shankings, and rioting scenes, but that's just not the primary focus of the whole movie. Let me just say that I am glad that it wasn't as violent and graphic in nature with the rape scenes as it's fellow Chicano prison film.. American Me. American Me was good, but it's so dark throughout. There were no happy moments in that movie from start to finish. Frankly, after watching that I went from calm and cool to sick and depressed. However, with Blood in Blood Out, this was the first time they tried to actually give you a happy ending. This movie is about much more than drugs and prison rape scenes. It's about family, loyalty, coming of age, and finding forgiveness. The man that Paco started out as, is not who he grew up to be, which was inspirational in a way. It just shows that just because your life starts off bad that doesn't always mean that you can't change who you are, and become something more than just a common street thug. This movie shows you that family is family, and no matter what your family does it's never too late to forgive them and start over. However, I do have 2 pet peeves about this movie. First of all, in my opinion, the movie was entirely too long. Secondly, Miklo didn't learn a damn thing. It's sad that even though he lost a limb he never changed his mentality or his ways, and he ultimately ended up the way he started out. There was no growth with his character period. At least the 2 brothers finally grew up, and became the men they were suppose to be. I guess that just goes to show that some people get it, and some people don't. Overall, I don't think this movie was perfect, but if you give it a chance it is pretty good. Certainly, better than what I was expecting to begin with.

THIS MOVIE WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE. NOT A CLASSIC BUT IT'S OKAY. THE TITLE IS HOTTER THEN THE MOVIE. LOL

Robin Trower Living Out Of Time.......2007-08-16
Finally Trower On DVD! He's not a young man any more ,But he still sounds great.Davey Pattison does a fine job on vocals . This is one any Trower fan would be glad to have . I Know I am .
BEST.......2007-07-01
If you like music....if you like guitar...if you like loud rock....then quit reading and buy.
If you're a Trower fan, DO NOT MISS THIS ONE.......2007-06-15
He's only gotten better as he's gotten older (and wiser). This is a pretty intimate club show in Europe (Germany?) recorded for television, but the production quality is pretty good and the audio outstanding. He's flawless, through new material and old, and the trio is tight for all but one very brief couple of measures on one tune. I've always been a huge fan of his music, but have had limited exposure to video of it. I'm even more of a fan now, having seen this. There is a pretty interesting interview segment after the show as well.
Excellent Dvd for Robin Trower fans.......2007-05-25
Robin is older, but still rockin out. He plays some old and new music.
Excellent.......2007-05-23
Sound, Vision, and Song-List are all great. Well balanced 5.1 sound and 16 x 9 widescreen. New songs and old favorites all sound fantastic. The singer is well matched to the sound of the 1970's live album.
Robin Trower is in my top 10 guitar legends, along with Gilmour and Clapton.

Faith can move mountains--and change men's lives. The inspirational tale in The Second Chance weaves the foundation of faith subtly but deeply through the lives of its characters, the Rev. Ethan Jenkins and the Rev. Jake Sanders. Though the two have known each other since they were kids, but their worlds are, well, worlds apart. Ethan (gospel-singing phenom Michael W. Smith) is on staff at the Rock, a wealthy suburban mega-church, and sees a bright future for himself as the head pastor there someday. But his real journey of faith begins when he starts working alongside Jake (an incredibly charismatic Jeff Obafemi Carr) at the Rock's sister church in the poor part of town. The stellar, grounded performances of both Smith and Carr, as well as the brisk direction and soul-stirring music, keep The Second Chance from being too predictable--even though when Ethan first appears in the 'hood, he makes a few rich-guy gaffes, like accidentally ordering a barbecue platter (at the God Almighty chicken restaurant!) that's way too spicy for his white-bread palate. But the film's full-on embrace of faith as a normal part of life makes it bracingly refreshing, and if you can see the characters' redemption coming, it doesn't make it any less uplifting. The DVD is absolutely packed with extras, including interviews with director Steve Taylor as well as stars Smith and Carr; a music video, All in the Serve, by Smith; director's commentary; deleted scenes; and more. --A.T. Hurley
Description
Ethan Jenkins (Michael W. Smith) and Jake Sanders (introducing Jeff Obafemi Carr) are both passionate pastors who worship the same God from the same book--but that's where the similarity ends. White and well-to-do Ethan is comfortable in his music ministry at the media-savvy suburban mega-church, The Rock; Jake is a street smart African-American who ministers to the gang members, teen mothers, and drug addicts of the urban Second Chance. When they are suddenly thrown together in a tough neighborhood and forced to work side by side, Ethan discovers there is no boundary between the streets and the sanctuary. But can the faith these two men share overcome the prejudices that divide them to give themselves and a struggling urban church a second chance?

Second Chance Review.......2007-09-15
The Second Chance gives an interesting view of the Church in America today. A mega-church being operated as a business loses all sense of reality of what a church is and does. The pastor and his son are rudely awakened by the actions of one of their mission church projects whose pastor see a widenly divide between business-minded church leaders and the needs of the people who are the Church. Discipline turns into discipleship as the pastor's son faces ministry one on one as Jesus did.
The Second Chance.......2007-09-07
This is a really great movie. It should be viewed by everyone, to give them hope and trust in mankind.
What were they thinking?.......2007-08-20
The story in this movie needs to be told. Unfortunately they attempted to be just like mainstream productions and interjected several UNNECESSARY curses. I am involved with several grass roots programs that are trying to make a point to the mainstream media that worthwhile movies CAN be made without all the profanity, and a movie geared toward Christians (and hopefully a lost and hungry world) cannot seem to break free of that nasty habit. I am very disappointed to see that. How will we ever get word to Hollywood or any other movie producing entity that profanity is not necessary to make a good movie if Christian movies use the same language? I wouldn't recommend anyone see this movie because of that very reason. What a twisted and mixed message that leaves. Michael W. Smith, I am very disappointed sir.
The Second Chance.......2007-08-13
Entertaining movie with a very good message. Highly recommend watching this especially in these times.
Well intentioned low key Christian drama.......2007-07-23
In execution this movie tries in turns to be edgy (gang turf issues! Prostitutes needing help!) and hip (Michael W Smith sings!) but the underlying message is actually quite low key, as is the acting.
Michael W Smith plays the son of a highly successful pastor, being groomed to take over a large affluent church, with its large international outreach program. He helps the pastor of their sister church, called Second Chance, which is where his father started - it is in the slums, with outreaches to the poor and needy, the prostitutes and gang victims. He is admonished for giving the pastor of the poor church a chance to speak his mind on live television, and as discipline, is sent to the Second Chance church for a time, to observe and report. Naturally, in doing so, he starts to gain a realization of his distance from real life and genuine outreach, and becomes a better person..
Some of the efforts at getting a message across are a bit clumsy - Michael Smith has his fancy BMW damaged and trades it in for a small cheap car and is happier as a result. However, some of the underlying themes of where church politics can lead are prescient and worth raising. Should affluent churches from wealthy neighbourhoods really invest so heavily in African outreach, when poverty and destitution are creating huge problems on their doorstep?
In answering these questions, the movie comes across a little one sided and heavy handed, but the point is well made, if lacking punch in the finale.
A worthy effort and well shot and acted. Michael W Smith won't win any Oscars and still looks happiest when singing rather than acting, but the end result is well worth a view, and good family entertainment. In fact, it occurs to me, that with the interesting milieu of characters, this would have made a better TV series!

The idea is clever but the movie can't seem to pull its comic weight: Steve Martin plays a mob informer who is placed in the witness-protection program and doesn't fit into the suburban California life the Feds have picked out for him. Rick Moranis is the FBI agent assigned to protect him. Martin mugs his way through the role of an Italian wise guy from the New York streets, but his performance is never more than an impersonation. The script leaves a lot to be desired, as well. Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) brings some gloss to the production, but he can't seem to do much else with the material. --Tom Keogh

guaranteed giggles.......2006-11-16
i bought my own copy because i need it Right Now when i get the blues. steve martin's 'seduction' of carol kane is worth a whole quart of ice cream.
Funny movie........2006-05-29
This movie is great especilly when someone's turtle flows down the drain of a sink.Rated PG-13 for some language. This movie is suitble for children.
Brilliant Steve Martin vehicle! Don't miss the gangster and his nerdy FBI handler (Moranis).......2006-01-15
My Blue Heaven is a movie I enjoyed as a kid (when my parents rented it) and have introduced to many of my friends in the ensuing years. If only comedy was still this good! Despite it's PG-13 rating, this movie is truly tam(er) compared to today's top-grossing comedy titles, and it still packs laugh after laugh.
There's no need for a detailed plot summary--Steve Martin is a NY Italian mafia member turned federal witness, so he's undercover in suburban San Diego with Rick Moranis as his straight-edge FBI babysitter (the man has a system for everything, including the eating of pancakes). Martin's monologues and pontifications and brilliant excuses for his petty thefts are worth the price of admission alone. Martin's mafia-cool influence on the nerdy Moranis is also absolutely priceless, full of laughs through-and-through. Joan Cusak gives an excellent performance as the uptight local DA (complete with Army shoes) who butts heads with Martin's petty crimes again and again.
Don't miss out on one of the most underrated and delicious comedy flicks of the 1980's (okay, so it did come out in 1990, but it rings 80's comedy all throughout). The DVD is certainly priced right!
The funny sequel to GOODFELLAS.......2005-12-31
Steve Martin does an excellent work in what I believe to be his best inpersonation so far. My blue heaven could be a sequel for Goodfellas where he could portray Henry Hill (The character played by Ray Liotta) after he got in the witness protection program. This movie is hilarious and one of Steve Martin's best. One of my 10 best comedies but unfortunately largely underated.
Actually, FBI men love this film!.......2005-11-23
My Blue Heaven is Director Herb Ross' fish out of water story of a New York mafioso (Steve Martin) relocated to suburban San Diego under the watchful eye of neurotic FBI agent Rick Moranis.
Martin, a broad actor, is perfectly suited to play the flamboyant ganster trying to adapt to the whitebread wholesomeness of suburbia and Moranis' comedic talents are well-suited to the role, as he and Martin learn from one another.
The film is consistently, continuously side-splittingly funny without ever descending into bad camp. Many critics thought the depiction of mafiosi and witness relocation was over the top but I've read interviews where FBI men involved in the program say this side-splitting tale is the most realistic.
This is an upbeat, cleverly-written, and nicely edited film with a light soundtrack and some subtle dynamics.
Don't miss a chance to put this one in your collection for regular viewings!

Just what the world needs: an all-musical roach revue. What worked as an MTV short film does not work as a feature-length movie. Intelligent cockroaches with lives of their own may seem outré and amusing on the small screen, but are disgusting and eventually boring when we have to spend 80 long minutes with them. Scruffy Jerry O'Connell is the Iowa farm boy who moves to the Big Apple and rents a filthy, bug-infested flat. Turns out those bugs are his only friends. Also turns out that the animated vermin are a whole lot more interesting than the human cast. This is just silly and gross enough for adolescent boys, or those with adolescent tastes. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Description
Fresh off the bus from iowa, Joe (Jerry O'Connell) is just trying to make it in New York, but he's got no job, no girl and no place to live. But life changes for Joe as he finds an apartment, along with 50,000 singing, dancing roach roommates who teach

Joe's apartment.......2007-08-08
I saw this movies years ago & just wanted to laugh again at the obsurdity of it all. If you want a good silly laugh, then buy it, rent it, steal it just watch it!!
a blast from the past.......2007-05-09
i really forgot just how much i loved this movie, this was MTV's first movie and they did a very great job in creating this! this was a cult classic movie, and one i really had to add to my collection!
excellent.......2007-04-02
From back when Mtv was till about the music and sick humor! LOved it then and now.
Possibly unique.......2006-05-19
I agree with Alex Meyer's earlier review that there is no other movie quite like "Joe's Apartment." The roaches sing and dance, and engage in dialogue with Joe. In fact, the most important roach characters, the ones with the biggest speaking parts, and so on, get mentioned in the credits. I don't know of another film where an insect gets an actual film credit. :-)
So if you're squeamish about cockroaches, this movie isn't for you, as they're quite realistically done, there are literally thousands of them scurrying around a lot of the time (can you spell Raid?), and they're really the stars of the whole movie. The fun-loving roaches that infest Joe's New York apartment are the biggest (or littlest) party animals in the Big Apple, and their musical nu
