4 out of 5 stars SEE HOW THEY RUN.......2005-02-02

A complex but coherent script from Anne Gerard and Adam Greeman, based on bestselling novelist Ed McBain's book, THREE BLIND MICE is a made for Tv movie elevated by some puzzling twists and a good performance from Brian Dennehy. Dennehy plays a lawyer who is called upon to defend an old Vietnam buddy for the brutal slaying of three Vietnamese youths who supposedly attacked his wife and then were found not guilty. Dennehy's investigation leads to a coverup, and he works hard to find the real culprit. The identity is pretty unexpected.
Dennehy receives good support from Rosalind Chao as an interpreter he finds himself fancying; Mary Stuart Masterson as his opposing attorney; John Doman as the accused; Debrah Farentino as his distraught wife; and Glenn Plummer as his private investigator. Only Jason Beghe (Monkey Shines) as the state investigative attorney's performance is listless and not up to his co-stars standards.
Well directed by Christopher Leitch, THREE BLIND MICE is an involving little thriller.

4 out of 5 stars Magnificent movie! ........2004-07-11

Brian Denehy is a superb actor. He always seems to elevate the quality of every film he appears . (Remember him in The belly of an arquitect or Bestseller, for instance). Gifted with strong character , and charimatic personality he reminds very often me to Broderick Crawford , a hard actor of the fifties (All the king's men).
In this film he is an attorney who must to defend a man framed of murder.
The puzzle script is absorbing and deeply haunting ,specially in some sequences like instance that one in which we see stating the point that not all Vietnam veterans are murders by definition.
Christopher Leicht has made a punch movie and we expect new works from this consistent director . He reveals himself as a young promise in this hard competing office .
Jill Stuart Masterton gives a credible performance.
Acquire this one and please: the title is not related with Agatha Christie novel .

In this action-packed western, Assante is Canaan, a roving gunfighter, blinded in the Civil War. But justice isn't only blind, it's deadly. Canaan takes on the ruthless Alacran who is holding a small town hostage for a stash of government silver.

3 out of 5 stars blind justice.......2006-11-11

I have had this title on LD for years, but when it was available on DVD, decided to get it. It is unique in the content and I did like the soundtrack, it was unusual. There'I've Said a lot without giving too much away. Regards' Dewarren.

4 out of 5 stars There are no reinforcements!.......2004-10-03

Borrowing freely from westerns traditional and Italian, as well as from the Japanese Zatoichi series (blind swordfighter/masseur), BLIND JUSTICE works much better, and is a lot more enjoyable, than a mere plot description would indicate.
Armand Assante plays Canaan, a man blinded in Civil War. We see him first dressed in a black duster and wearing thick smoked glasses, walking across the desert with an infant bundled in his arms. Three Mexican banditos approach, whooping and hollering and firing their guns in the air. Canaan is dust, and if he manages to get out of this scrape he crawls into myth.
Although we're led to believe that Canaan retains some sight, his condition seems to have enhanced his other senses to a remarkable degree. Enough so that he's able to hear a scorpion walking across a hitching post from twenty feet and shoot it without touching the hand it was about to crawl onto.
The plot demands all of his super acute faculties. Canaan finds himself in a town under siege. A decimated U.S. Calvary unit is holed up in the local church, sitting on a wagon full of silver and threatened by the dreaded bandit king Alacran (Robert Davi) and his merciless minions. Oh, yeah, and there's that nurse Caroline (Elizabeth Shue) that he's got to kind of fall for, too.
Assante is a great actor, and makes his incredible character believable. The action is well choreographed and fast paced, save for a few flashblacks strategically thrown in to fill in Canaan's back story. I'm not sure we need to know how or why Canaan was blinded, but we find out anyway.
BLIND JUSTICE is compelling and an ingenious western.

4 out of 5 stars Superb western with great appeal.......2003-08-02

The plot of this 1994 HBO movie is fairly simple with a sprinkling of more complex sub-plots, but essentially this movie is about a blind man (played by Armand Assante) on a quest. This western works very well with the exception of one mediocre performance in the female role, but very few [if any] of us watch westerns for the love interest. The strength of this movie is in Assante's excellent performance, as well as the universal appeal this movie will have across the board for fans of traditional American westerns and European [spaghetti] westerns alike. The director seems to borrow heavily from earlier ideas of Corbucci, Garrone and Colizzi, with a healthy measure of John Ford and Howard Hawks influence combined, to create a unique film in the western genre. I have no idea what HBO intended when they funded this film, but in a 2003 era of Dungeons and Dragons and a post-democratic society a little grit, guns and gore goes a long way! Highly recommend.

4 out of 5 stars Richard Spence's Blind Justice.......2002-05-24

Although derivative of many Oriental films, this short little western still packs a punch.

Assante is a nearly blind gunfighter traveling with a baby. He is looking for the baby's mother, asking everyone he finds about the town she is supposed to be in. He stops in one town where a group of soldiers is guarding a shipment of silver, which is being eyed by the local banditos. The soldiers, trapped, send Assante out for help. All hell breaks loose.

Assante is very good as the embittered gunfighter (and often very funny). His blindness never becomes gimmicky, although one has to wonder how he can ride a horse. He uses his hearing and sense of smell to shoot, how does he know in which direction the horse is going? Adam Baldwin, as the soldier's sergeant, is great, as he distances himself even further from the Baldwin brothers (no, he is not one of them, he can act). Robert Davi has his best role since "Licence to Kill" as the main villain. The one cast liability here is Oscar nominee Elisabeth Shue.

Shue delivers all of her lines in a flat monotonal vaguely-Valley Girl accent. She should be banned from doing any period films ever again. She has one embarassing nude scene, if you can call it that. At one point, she is sitting on a bed in her corset, and you can see part of her nipple mashed up out of her undergarment. It does not look erotic, it looks painful. Assante and Shue's forced romance is also the weakest part of the script.

One scene to watch for is in the climax as a major character is blown through the doors of a building. I rewound that three times just to bask in an action shot I had never seen before.

This feels like the first film of a proposed series that never came to fruition, and with an 85 minute running time, you have to wonder what they cut out. However, I do recommend "Blind Justice."

This is rated (R) for physical violence, strong gun violence, some sexual violence, some gore, profanity, very brief female nudity, and some adult situations.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest Movie Ever Made.......2000-02-29

BLIND JUSTICE is, without a doubt, the greatest movie ever made. More color sequences than CITIZEN KANE, fewer Italian thugs than THE GODFATHER, and by far more horses than CHINATOWN. Above all, it is superbly written. Knauf is a genius.

Description

Brilliant, passionate and eccentric, clinical psychologist Dr. Tony Hill (Robson Green) has an extraordinary understanding of the criminal mind. It enables him to empathize with both victim and murderer - and even to visualize the crimes. Working alongside the ambitious and driven Detective Inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris), Dr. Hill helps the police profile and track down vicious killers in northern England. The brutal strangulation of a young woman bears shocking resemblance to the killing of 11-year-old Trudy Hibbert three years earlier. Paul Gregory, a known pedophile, was acquitted of the crime. Now, the police suspect him of murder once again. But when new evidence reveals a bizarre connection with Gregory's trial, Dr. Hill realizes that someone is trying to take justice into his or her own hands.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Intense and Off Kilter Mystery.......2004-09-06

While maybe the episodes just a little padded, this dvd is still a stunner. Robson Green and Hermione Norris manage to pull off that difficult job of tightly leashed sexual attraction in a story that revolves around a pedaephile's return to the community and a mysterious series of deaths.

The story never lets down it's emotional high pitch whether it is the police dealing with one another or the community demanding justice or Robson's character, a psychologist working with the police, working out the feelings of the killer in his own mind.

The suspense is sustained and Robson and Norris' characters are fascinating if off kilter.

4 out of 5 stars Show Great - DVD release not good.......2004-04-07

I find it really irritating that, after I buy the first Wire in the Blood DVD, that they release all three in a set - at a much cheaper price than if bought individually.

The show is really great but I am really unhappy about the way the DVD's were released!!

Yeah I Bought This Too And this one of the best dvd's you can get in the series. The Only ones that I Could say by any chance that is better would probadly be "Innoncence And Experince" and "Fire Relclium" and posibly "Heart of the Sword". sorry if I mispelled anything (LOL)!!

5 out of 5 stars The promised fight must occur...and it shall occur now..........2003-08-05

the first episode on this disc is the ending of Anji and Sanosuke's battle, Sanosuke shows that he has learned something from hanging around with Kenshin for so long

the second is Saito vs Usui, we get to see Saito's newest and most lethal variation of Gatotsu, the Zero shiki Gatotsu

the next two are Aoshi vs Kenshin, this is probubly the third best fight, though its mainly alot of talking, its got its good points

the last one is good, even though it was edited(do NOT watch it dubbed in english) and its more humorous than a serious fight....untill a guy named Fuji shows up....

all in all its good, and is necessary to know whats gonig on next...get the next two dvds (innocence and experience, and fire requium) so you don't miss anything for a second...

5 out of 5 stars Kyoto Arc moving toward climax..........2003-05-15

Ever since I first saw Rurouni Kenshin in fansubs 3-4 years ago, it has been my favorite anime series of all time, and to me, the Kyoto Arc is surely its pinnacle. I'm more interested in characterization than action, so I tend to dislike very combat-oriented animes, but the series of battles that resolves the Kyoto Arc is not only excellent action, but has such human interest behind it that it never fails to satisfy, even for a "chick flick" lover like me.

And that's what fills this tape, with episodes 48-52.
48 finishes Sanosuke's battle with Anji (begun in 47 on the previous tape). We learn of the tragic past that turned Anji into the vengeful "Myouou," and those memories are what brings the fight to resolution.
49 is Saitou vs. Usui ("Battle of the Creepy Guys" as I like to say ^_~;) and does a great job of showcasing both of them.
50 and 51 are Kenshin's promised rematch with Shinomori Aoshi. Another reviewer complained of this fight being talky, and they have a point, but I actually like that about it; this fight with all that talk effectively brings Aoshi's character the resolution that's been pending since episode 11, and pushes Kenshin to his limits as well.
The end of 51 and all of 52 are devoted to the battle at Aoiya: Yahiko vs. Henya, Kaoru and Misao vs. Kamatari, and the Aoiya Oniwabanshu vs. Iwanbou. Yahiko, Misao, and Kamatari especially have wonderful moments in here. (I do want to point out a pun in the original Japanese; two words for "scythe" and "gay" are both pronounced "kama", so the realization about Kamatari was "So it's not a kama-onna (scythe girl), it's a kama-otoko (gay man)." I've seen fansubbers try to keep the pun with horrid results, so I respect Anime Works just bowing out of it.)
The tape ends with Kenshin headed toward his battle with Soujiro, and with the appearance at Aoiya of the Juppon Gatana's "secret weapon"---quite a cliffhanger!
This tape also begins the "It's Gonna Rain!" end theme, which I think is RK's best.

Being used to some pretty lackluster fansubs, the picture quality of Anime Works' version, to me, was beautiful and refreshing, and despite some conspicuous "guest artist" episodes (notably 50), RK's art is always strong---notice especially the wonderfully varied lighting effects. The subtitling was good overall; the timing was perfect, but being an obsessed fan who knows a tiny smattering of Japanese, I did catch a few translation nits. For example, at the start of this tape (reiterating the end of ep 47), Sano tells Anji "It's too late to pray for me," when he actually said "it's still early", and the credits give Anji's surname as "Yukuyama" when it's actually "Yuukyuuzan", but after the first episode, I relaxed into it, and I don't think there are any translation problems to get worked up about.

All in all, I think Anime Works did a good job, and although I wouldn't suggest this tape as someone's first taste of RK, being that it's right in the middle of the show's largest, most complex story, this one has my hearty recommendation!

5 out of 5 stars Juppongatana Assembled.......2003-02-17

This DVD has five episodes. Sanosuke finishes his fight with Anji, Saito challenges Usui, and Kenshin fights Aoshi. Oh yeah, Kaoru, Yahiko, and the Oniwabanshu fight three other villians. Well, I have to say that Anji and Sanosuke's fight was poignant. Saito vs. Usui fight is pretty cool. At first, I though it was a boring fight, but it grew on me over time. Aoshi vs. Kenshin fight was ok, but Kenshin was talking too much. They both said "Shikijou, Hyotogo, Beshimi, and Hannya" so many times it gets really irritating. And last but not least the fight with oniwabashu and three juppongatana. That fight was good too. If you didn't buy faces of evil, than don't get this one. You have to see the whole Kyoto Arc, not just parts of it! If you can't afford the DVD, than buy the VHS subtitled in english verson. OK, BYE

I was dissapointed with this movie. The accents are inaccurate and the story line is not as good as the book on which it has been based.

4 out of 5 stars Gripping series.......2007-09-14

I didn't think I would care for this series but then couldn't stop watching it. I've seen Series 1 and 2 and the acting is superb. I'm saving Series 3 for when I can watch it all in one day.

5 out of 5 stars Wire in the Blood 1 & 2.......2007-01-11

This is a great and compelling series. I haven't watched the 3rd DVD yet but I expect to be just as good as the other two.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome show!!.......2007-01-10

I discovered this through BBC America during the 4th season and had to order the previous 3. Excellently written and acted. Robson Green is an amazing actor and should be better known in the US.

5 out of 5 stars FAR BETTER THAN MOST SUSPENSE MOVIES!.......2006-08-16

THE BBC IS BRILLIANT.HAVING PRODUCED SOME OF TV'S BEST AND BY FAR INTELLIGENT THRILLERS & MYSTERIES NOW BRING US "WIRE IN THE BLOOD" . INTRIGUEING PLOTS ,INTRICATE ,INDEPTH CHARACTORS SOO WELL WRITTEN AND DIRECTED THAT HOLLYWOOD SHOULD TAKE A GOOD LOOK,AS THEY CAN'T COME CLOSE ,NO MATTER HOW MUCH $ THEY SPEND.ROBSON GREEN STARRING AS DR. HILL ,A CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST AIDING THE BRADFORD POLICE'S DCI JORDAN{HERMIONE NORRIS} IN TRACKING DOWN SERIAL KILLERS WORK SPELINDLY TOGETHER.PAST IT'S THIRD SEASON & INTO A SPINOFF "TOUCHING EVIL"THERE IS NOT ONE BAD EPISODE.CSI IS GOOD YET THIS IS FAR THE SUPERIOR.

5 out of 5 stars British Crime Drama at its Very Best!.......2006-01-08

Based on the novels by Val McDermid, Wire in the Blood is a gritty, rivetting, suspenseful psychological crime drama; it is also, without a doubt, one of the best series of that genre around. Robson Green (Touching Evil, Reckless, Me & Mrs. Jones, The Student Prince, The Gambling Man, Grafters, Soldier Soldier) stars as Dr. Tony Hill, a clinical psychologist who moonlights as a criminal profiler for the police. Tony is brilliant in his ability to gain insights into the criminal mind, but his brilliance comes at a cost, compensated as it is by an equal degree of social ineptitude. Like an absent-minded professor, Tony has a mind so focused that he easily becomes oblivious to his surroundings and to those around him. It doesn't help matters that he talks to himself or that he finds it helpful to physically act out various aspects of the crime in question--things that are best NOT done in a public place! Though the storylines are very serious--even chilling--the very nature of Tony's character provides the occasional welcome moment of lightness and humour. Those familiar with Robson Green will know that this is the type of character at which he excels--characters which are, at the very least, just a little bit odd.

Tony's connection with the police is via Detective Chief Inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris--Cold Feet's Karen Marsden), a shrewd, hard-working cop, who is well aware of Tony's brilliant mind and of his value to the police. There exists almost from the start--and always beneath the surface--a mutual attraction between Tony and Carol, and it is here that Tony most poignantly feels his lack of social skills.

There are, at the time of writing, two sets on dvd (with set three due for release in February 2006). Set one contains three episodes (each presented as two back-to-back 50 minute episodes); set two contains four 100-minute episodes. DVD extras on set one are limited to brief text-based bios, but set two consists of interesting and informative interviews with Robson Green, Hermion Norris, author Val McDermid, and the production team.

Though this is a series, each episode is movie length, and I would challenge anyone to find a Hollywood crime drama as good as any one of the episodes in this outstanding series. If you enjoy top quality, impeccably-acted, gritty, dark, intelligent psychological crime drama which draws the viewer right in--shows like BBC's Waking the Dead, for example--you will definitely enjoy this series, and I recommend both sets without hesitation. I enjoyed the series so much that I bought McDermid's latest Tony Hill novel, The Torment of Others (2004), which I also thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. Personally, I can't wait for the release of set three, and I hope Koch Vision continues to release future sets as they become available!

Very highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Another great show cancelled because of slow start-up.......2007-08-26

I used to watch this show every week religiously. And just when I was starting to care about all of the charactors including the 'jerks' it gets cancelled. Basically the show is about a cop, Ron Eldard, who loses his sight (in the line of duty i think but this was on TV the last time I saw it), and the repercutions he has when he comes back to work.

How people aren't sure he can do his job anymore and so he gets partnered with a female cop, who gets just as much guff as he does which i couldnt figure out except for the fact that she's a woman and the writers were somewhat unimaginitive? All the same, great, great, show. RIP Blind Justice. I think I even saw it on one of the top lists of shows that were cancelled to soon.
