Intense and Off Kilter Mystery.......2004-09-06

While maybe the episodes just a little padded, this dvd is still a stunner. Robson Green and Hermione Norris manage to pull off that difficult job of tightly leashed sexual attraction in a story that revolves around a pedaephile's return to the community and a mysterious series of deaths.

The story never lets down it's emotional high pitch whether it is the police dealing with one another or the community demanding justice or Robson's character, a psychologist working with the police, working out the feelings of the killer in his own mind.

The suspense is sustained and Robson and Norris' characters are fascinating if off kilter.

I find it really irritating that, after I buy the first Wire in the Blood DVD, that they release all three in a set - at a much cheaper price than if bought individually.

This gritty British TV series plays like a cunning hybrid of Cracker, Prime Suspect, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, starring Robson Green as clinical psychologist Tony Hill, whose intimate understanding of the criminal mind gives him an uncanny knack for profiling killers based on scant physical evidence. In the two-part episode "Shadows Rising," Hill and Detective Inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris) unravel the twisting (and twisted) plot of a celebrity stalker who's terrorizing a talk-show hostess and leaving a trail of young, female corpses in his wake. The motivation for these killings provides the episode's unpredictable revelation, spinning this engrossing mystery in an entirely unexpected direction. With a suspenseful climax, sharp performances, and high standards of writing and direction, Wire in the Blood is easily recommended for Brits and Anglophiles everywhere. --Jeff Shannon

Tormented, Off Kilter, and Strange-- and That's the Hero.......2004-07-29

Robson Green may hold the patent on tormented detective types. He does not play an official policeman in this adaptation of the book of the same title. He is a psychologist who is drawn into the mad world of the sociopath by his relationship with the police.

This adapation is actually better than the novel it is based on. In the novel there is very little suspense as to who the killer is, the television show is far more convoluted and atmospheric with some very clever camara work. I take leave to doubt that the opening sequence could actually happen but it is horrifically effetive.

Fans of Prime Suspect or Patricia Cornwell's early novels should take note.

Creepy, Fascinating Crime Drama.......2005-02-05

Robson Green creates yet another fascinating, quirky crime solver, this time as Dr. Tony Hill, a criminal psychologist with a penchant for seeing his criminals as all too human, in a system that wants to brand them all monsters. His views and work methods frustrate, infuriate and fascinate his fellow case workers. All three "Wire in the Blood" episodes make for powerful, hair raising crime drama and the first installment "The Mermaids Singing" may well be its creepiest. Fun stuff for crime buffs!

If you are a Robson Greene or a mystery fan looking for an intelligent story, then this is dvd worth owning. It will keep you on the edge of your seat,and make you cringe as you examine the clues and evidence. The criminal pyschologist and detective try to profile and apprehend a serial killer who seems to prey on gay men with inexplicable ease. To make matters worse, a supervisory detective tries to thwart Tony Hill (psychologist) and take matters into his own hands while another detective leaks information to the news media in exchange for sexual favors....will they catch the killer? Will Tony Hill survive the confrontation or will he become the next unfortunate victim!
