5 out of 5 stars Laugh evertime I see It.......2007-09-08

I have seen this movie a bunch of times and still laugh so hard no sound comes out I find different things each time this is a really truly funny movie.

4 out of 5 stars No Doubt about it.......2007-08-18

Robin Williams in one of his typical vehicles--manic with a soft side at the end. (See Good Morning Vietnam); Nothing spectacular about the movie, except for the San Francisco scenery. I liked the twist at the end; a more realistic presentation of what might actually happen.

5 out of 5 stars Mrs. Doubtfire.......2007-06-10

This movie is about a man, an immature, irresponsible kind of guy who loves his kids. How can you help but to love a dad who would do anything to be with his children, including dressing up as a woman in order to be their caregiver? It is refreshing to see a movie that shows a father's devotion and love in such a positive light. Robin Williams is a wonderful versatile actor and always gives a fantastic performance no matter what type of role he is playing. And Sally Field is adorable as usual. The family interaction is delightful throughout. This movie is funny, poignant, and entertaining for children and adults alike, a definite family movie sure to be enjoyed by all.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Movies EVER.......2007-04-07

This is one of Robert Williams best Movies ever because it has it all, Comedy, Drama, and it gets you all teary and mushy inside while making you laugh your head off. Deffinetely recommend to Robert William fans. Trust me you wont regret it. I sure didn't.

Perhaps if The Bishop's Wife had lapsed on its copyright and fallen into the public domain like It's a Wonderful Life, it would be as much a Christmas staple as that classic. It certainly deserves to be. Dudley (Cary Grant) is an angel sent down by the prayers of a new bishop (David Niven). The bishop is trying to build a new cathedral, and he's so entrenched in his fundraising that he's watching his own marriage crumble around him. Loretta Young is devoted, moist-eyed, and basically a great date for the tempted Dudley. They drink in the afternoon, go skating at night, and make impulse buys. The skating sequence beats mightily on one's suspension of disbelief, but the rest of the film is an absolute joy. Grant is suave, worldly, and enchanting. A wonderful present for anyone who has not seen it. --Keith Simanton

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Bishop's Wife.......2007-06-25

Nominated for Best Film at the 1947 Oscars, Henry Koster's sweet, thoroughly charming "Bishop's Wife" was a big crowd-pleaser in its day, and has since become one of our more cherished holiday films. Cary Grant was never smoother playing Dudley, the most debonair of angels. Co-starring David Niven and a dazzling Loretta Young as the title character, this joyful, witty film still has something to say about keeping the spirit of Christmas alive all year round.

5 out of 5 stars Touched by an Angel - A Heart Warming Story .......2007-06-05

If you are looking for a movie to watch on Christmas day with your family, you must include this heart warming story about an angel who intervene the busy lives of an Episcopalian bishop named Henry Brougham (David Niven) and his wife Julia (Loretta Young). This movie is set in Yuletide spirit with bells ringing, choir singing, Christmas wreaths decorating the walls of churches, homes, shops and buildings, and streets and neighborhoods covered with fresh snow. During this time, an angel named Dudley (Cary Grant) enters the lives of the bishop and his wife as an office assistant. At the Victorian home of Bishop Henry not everything is going well. Years of neglect about his own family left Julia on her own while the bishop is busy raising funds for a new cathedral. Dudley's attentiveness, charm, and sheer magical powers drive Julia to him, but Dudley is only interested in helping Henry to get back with Julia. The writers have cleverly crafted many moments between Dudley and Julia that would be purely romantic, but writers did not forget to remind us that Dudley is an angel and he is not romancing Julia. Several instances of walking down the street, driving in the country and having lunch at local cafeteria makes her feel that she is appreciated as a woman. The magical ice-skating scene where Dudley charms everyone with his skating ability, and helps Julia to glide on ice is a memorable scene of the movie.

Dudley's "angelic" effect is felt by many: He touches the lives of people he comes in contact with. As the friendship between Julia and Dudley becomes strong, Henry begins to feel that Dudley is a devil trying to steal his wife, but soon all ends well when Dudley completes his job by helping Henry to raise money for the cathedral. Cary Grant is spectacular and charms not only Julia but many viewers. I was most impressed by the performance of Julia who is attracted to Dudley; she is tender, romantic, and vulnerable, yet she also knows that she is a wife and a mother.

Slapstick humor gets a full-body workout in Christmas with the Kranks. Critics were unanimous in their derision, and John Grisham must have gnashed his teeth over what studio-boss-turned-director Joe Roth did to his bestselling novel Skipping Christmas, to which this broad-stroked comedy bears little or no resemblance. The title characters are played by Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, who decide to skip Christmas because their daughter's in Peru with the Peace Corps. Thus begins a rabid program of enforced conformity when their neighbors (led by Dan Aykroyd) coerce the Kranks into changing their holiday attitude--a change that comes easily when the daughter announces she'll be home for Christmas after all. Imagine if a suburban lynch mob said "Have a Merry Christmas or we'll kill you," and you'll get some idea of what spending Christmas with the Kranks is really like. And if you laughed at the frozen cat, you're probably on Santa's "naughty" list. --Jeff Shannon

Product Description

When their only daughter Blair leaves the family nest, Luther and Nora Krank (Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis) decide to book an island cruise to beat the yuletide blues and just skip the holidays. But their decision to boycott tradition has the whole neighborhood in an uproar, and when Blair callson Christmas Eve to announce a surprise visit with her new fiancée, the Kranks have just twelve hours to perform a miracle and pull themselves and their neighbors together to throw the best celebration ever.

2 out of 5 stars "Never say 'honey hickory ham' to me again".......2007-07-19

I find it amusing that, like the films of "Gone With the Wind" and "The Lord of the Rings", "Christmas with the Kranks" actually retains the final line of the book on which it's based, John Grisham's "Skipping Christmas". Clearly the filmmakers realized that most people, like me, didn't actually read "Skipping Christmas", but glanced at the last line in a bookstore at some point...

Yes, this is a mediocre movie. However, I think the level of vitriol in some of the reviews it has received, both on Amazon and elsewhere, is absurd. I love Roger Ebert and his books collecting negative reviews, but he reviewed "Christmas with the Kranks" as though it were a cultural document of the utmost significance. It's just a silly holiday movie!

One thing I certainly did not like about "Christmas with the Kranks" was the sequence of Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis visiting a tanning salon. People who use tanning salons greatly increase their risk of skin cancer, and I did not appreciate the depiction of this risky behavior on the part of responsible adult characters in a family comedy. But aside from that sequence, "Christmas with the Kranks" is a harmless piece of fun in which it hardly matters if the neighbors are in the wrong (as Ebert alleges), given that everyone teams up in the end anyway.

5 out of 5 stars a very funny.......2007-06-30

dis-functional family christmas movie that y9u can relate too. Huffman is at her frumpy best, but next to la jamie, who wouldnt be?? Rent it for some laugh out loud moments!!!

5 out of 5 stars Christmas movie - Excellent - Christmas with the Kranks.......2007-06-29

I was amazed at the humor in this movie. Awesome movie for Christmas season with lots of laughs for years to come.

1 out of 5 stars Christmas with the "Stanks".......2007-06-16

Boy was this a waste of money! I found myself talking over this movie either making fun of it or telling the characters to get a life. Why in the world is it selfish for a person to want to take a vacation for Christmas? The Kranks neighbors are annoying busy bodies especially Dan Ackroyds character. I like Tim Allen's Santa movies so I thought this might be good,Wrong. The only thing worth a star was Allen's character giving up his vacation for a struggling neighbor.

3 out of 5 stars Kristmas With the Chranks.......2007-02-27

What's with the review from December 29, 2006? Is this guy a newspaper reporter? Is this the style of reviewing movies now, the newspaper headline format?

Ok, I'll try one: "Loose lips sink ships"

No, wait: "Jamie Lee Curtis' best since Halloween"

Hmmm....nahhh. How 'bout: "Snow is fun. Eat cookies during Christmas"

Perfect!

Considering how lame this sequel could have been, The Santa Clause 2 makes for a pleasant holiday diversion. It's got the familiar smell of Disney marketeering, and more than a few parents will object to this further embellishment of the St. Nick legend, but Tim Allen's amiable presence provides ample compensation. As a divorced dad who inherited the jolly man's job in The Santa Clause, Allen now faces another Yuletide challenge. According to the "Missus Clause" in his North Pole contract, he can't continue to be the real Santa until he gets married. As luck and five credited screenwriters would have it, Allen falls for the Scrooge-y principal (Elizabeth Mitchell) of his son's school, while a phony, power-hungry duplicate Santa wreaks havoc on the North Pole's overworked elves. It's all as sweet as spiced eggnog, with that warmed-over feel of a mandated sequel, but the Christmas spirit does prevail with the sound of sleigh bells and Allen's rosy-cheeked ho, ho, ho! --Jeff Shannon

Description

Walt Disney Pictures presents an all-new comedy adventure overflowing with holiday cheer. Tim Allen reappears in SANTA CLAUSE 2, the hilarious sequel to everybody's holiday favorite. His son Charlie has landed on this year's "naughty" list, and if Scott doesn't marry by Christmas Eve -- one very, very short month away -- he'll stop being Santa forever. Embracing Christmas and the magic of family with heart, warmth, fun, and charm, SANTA CLAUSE 2 is classic holiday entertainment everybody will enjoy again and again

Considering that the 1st one was pretty good and the 3rd one sucked I honestly have to say that the second one in the series is the one I loved the best. It is destined to become a classic for my 8 year-old daughter!

All the elements of a long lasting Christmas traditional viewing are there!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2007-08-21

Not as good as the first movie, but still decent and one to add to your collection if you loved the first one.

Inspired by O. Henry's short story about a young bride and groom, each of whom foolishly--but quite lovingly--sacrifices a treasured possession to buy the perfect Christmas gift for their mate. Amid a flurry of bustling New Yorkers clad in early-20th-century garb, O. Henry himself (David Wayne) sets the scene: Beth, a teenage orphan (Marie Osmond), comes to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle (the latter played by Donald Moffat). Her friendship with a cheerful kitchen maid soon leads to a stormy encounter with a handsome Swiss immigrant, Rudy (Timothy Bottoms). Despite Beth and Rudy's conflicting social statuses, and Beth's arranged engagement to a sickly bird watcher (a young James Woods, who truly fits the bill), the two fall in love and miraculously overcome these obstacles--all in about 95 minutes. Old-fashioned romance, elegant costumes, and a happy ending make this predictable story completely irresistible to those who love a good fairy tale--or to Osmond fans who fondly remember watching the movie on TV in 1978. Produced by the Osmond Brothers for PBS's American Short Story series. --Liane Thomas

5 out of 5 stars The true spirit of Christmas.......2007-01-19

So often we think only of what we can get at Christmas. Here is a couple who think only of each other. What a different world it would be if we all thought that way.

5 out of 5 stars The Gift of Love.......2006-12-22

Great movie! I showed it to my students after reading O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi". It made for a great lesson on comparison/contrast after reading the story. My students had no clue who Marie Osmond was and were impressed with her singing. One student said, "She sure can sing!" Yes, she certainly can. She is also a delightful actress. It's a great DVD to show right before Christmas vacation.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it! You'll LOVE it!!.......2005-08-13

I am a Marie Osmond fan and that is how I found out about this movie...but I was even amazed at how good she really was in this movie! It is well made, very touching and I highly recommend it!!

5 out of 5 stars The warmest movie ever made.......2005-07-18

Chances are, if you are reading this review, you are already a fan of this movie, or a fan of Maire Osmond, either of which makes you a superbly fantastic person. Congratulations on the wonderfulness that is you. Now, onto the movie. . . While often passed off just as a Christmas movie (and, don't get me wrong it should be watched at least twice every Holiday season), I also just watch this movie when I am a little down or feeling really happy already. It will leave you warm and tingly for days. I truly don't think the story could be any sweeter, or acted any more lovingly. Now, it is easy to assume that such a sweet love story would be cheesy. It's not, not at all. However, it is the definition of innocence, which can be mistaken as cheesy. The acting, as stated before, is perfect for the story, the one song she sings is haunting and will stay with you, the filming technique (while dated and not high quality) actually adds a warmth and dimension to the film. Get this movie, share it with someone you can snuggle up close to and fall asleep with. Truly wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars Really, REALLY good... a definite MUST SEE! .......2004-12-14

I will admit that I heaved a sigh of disappointment when I saw Marie Osmond step out of the carriage. However, she quickly won me over and I loved every minute of this film after that. This story is wonderfully touching and in the end, their gifts to one another are funny but really felt. You KNOW that they are gifts from the heart. This movie really is about love at Christmastime and the actors in this version couldn't have been better chosen. They all do a great job and I would recommend this film to anyone! I plan to watch it time and again!

Much closer to Hello, Dolly! than your usual Christmas special, Mrs. Santa Claus joins two distinct genres: holiday family fare and the Broadway musical. This song-studded extravaganza was especially designed for TV by Broadway legend Jerry Herman, whose songs are just as incorrigibly catchy on the small screen as they are on the stage. Herman uses one of his favorite leading ladies from the theater, Angela Lansbury, in a tale of Santa's "invisible wife," who takes the reindeer off for an impulsive week-long adventure in New York City. Unexpectedly becoming a suffragette and labor organizer (it's set in the early 20th century), Mrs. Claus twinkles merrily at all who cross her path. This is a problem, dramatically speaking, because what's compelling about someone who twinkles all the time? The costumes are by Bob Mackie (duh), the choreography by Chicago director Rob Marshall. And just try to get the melodies out of your head. --Robert Horton

a must see film

5 out of 5 stars An Old Fashioned Christmas Movie.......2007-01-09

With absolutely no entertaining Christmas specials, shows , or movies in recent years, this movie is a wholesome, family film . Angela Lansbury is as delightful as ever, and the movie is visually exciting in an old fashioned way. We need more of this type of entertainment instead of the junk that Hollywood has produced lately.

5 out of 5 stars Angela Lansbury academy performance.......2006-11-10

Angela Lansbury is brilliant! She is truely a grand dam of our time! She only improves with age. Mrs. Santa Claus is truely a classic waiting to be discovered! The story line is believable, Mrs. Lansbury makes the movie. She gives (as usual) a flawless performance. I hope she does more projects.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Boring for the Under-20 crowd.......2007-02-04

Sweet, sentimental movie that intrigued my youngest three children and disappointed them at the end. They wanted the traditional happy ending. The mystery kept my husband and I curious and wondering, too. It is a well made film for people not jaded by video games and fast action flicks. It made me think quite a bit afterwards, about marriage, family, and loyalty.

1 out of 5 stars Worst movie ever!.......2006-12-27

This has remained the movie to laugh about. It's such a horrible movie with no plot. In the end, nothing happens. There is no action, no drama, and no comedy. What's left? Nothing. Watching grass grow would be more action filled than this sleeper.

5 out of 5 stars The Christmas Wife.......2002-04-16

The Christmas Wife has been one of my all time favorite movies for over 10 years now and I never get tired of watching it.
As a matter of fact I watch it at least 3 times every Christmas season and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes good sentimental movies.

4 out of 5 stars Understanding loss.......2001-12-17

This short drama was satisfying to watch even though there wasn't much action. It was almost like a two-person play. It tells how an apparently strong person copes with the dramatic change in his life caused by the death of his dear spouse. Christmas traditions are not the same, so the widower adapts by renting a companion. Jason Robards and Julie Harris are delightful to watch, so professional.

3 out of 5 stars sweet.......2001-11-11

The acting is good, however it does leave one guessing.

The actors are a delight and they do maintain the viewers interest. HOWEVER; The ending of this picture leaves one suspended above the play.
To me, this film is a fill in the blanks movie that leaves the viewer wondering if this is all there is. Still I found it a delight to watch and a very wholesome picture.

3 out of 5 stars Could be better.......2006-11-09

Saw these episodes when I was 12 % 14. Stories good...Of course theme music great...many memories... video quality questionable.

2 out of 5 stars Very disappointing video quality.......2006-09-07

First let me say that I love Ozzie and Harriet but this DVD is a major disappointment. One of the shows is so grainy and blurry that it could pretty much only be listened to as it was hard on the eyes to view. I hope in the future so see these shows digitally remastered and will check for that before purchasing any more DVDs of theirs. I gave it two stars for the stories but it did not deserve more due to the quality of the DVD picture.

3 out of 5 stars Only 1 episode is watchable!.......2006-01-08

This 2 episode DVD is really only 1 episode, since you can not watch the first episode. 'The Late Christmas Gift' which is from 1954 is so grainy that it is difficult to watch without getting eye strain or a headache! I was very disapointed to have spent the money on what I thought was 2 shows, and I could only watch the second episode from 1956. The one thing that makes this worth buying is a commerical by Ozzie & Harriet for the New York World's Fair (1965). Since I went as child, it brought back some found memories. Again let me stress the second episode is fine and very enjoyable. Even Ricky sings a Christmas song at the end, so it was not a total waste of money.
