Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a rollicking voyage in the same spirit of the two earlier Pirates films, yet far darker in spots (and nearly three hours to boot). The action, largely revolving around a pirate alliance against the ruthless East India Trading Company, doesn't disappoint, though the violence is probably too harsh for young children. Through it all, the plucky cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush) are buffeted by battle, maelstroms, betrayal, treachery, a ferocious Caribbean weather goddess, and that gnarly voyage back from the world's end--but with their wit intact. As always, Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow tosses off great lines ; he chastises "a woman scorned, like which hell hath no fury than!" He insults an opponent with a string of epithets, ending in "yeasty codpiece."!
In the previous Dead Man's Chest, Sparrow was killed--sent to Davy Jones' Locker. In the opening scenes, the viewer sees that death has not been kind to Sparrow--but that's not to say he hasn't found endless ways to amuse himself, cavorting with dozens of hallucinated versions of himself on the deck of the Black Pearl. But Sparrow is needed in this world, so a daring rescue brings him back. Keith Richards' much ballyhooed appearance as Jack's dad is little more than a cameo, though he does play a wistful guitar. But the action, as always, is more than satisfying, held together by Depp, who, outsmarting the far-better-armed British yet again, causes a bewigged commander to muse: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?" As far as fans are concerned, it matters not. --A.T. Hurley

Pirates 3 = great movie!.......2007-09-11
I have to admit.....when the first Pirates came out I was one of those people saying it would be stupid and I would never watch it, but after some persuasion from my sister-in-law, thought I would give it a chance and you know what....I LOVED IT! I was hooked. I loved Dead Man's Chest and I could not wait until At World's End came out. It turned out to be just as adventurous and fun as the first 2! I am now PIRATES OBSESSED! And I loved that they kept the same characters through all 3 movies. I recommend this movie and the first 2 to everyone!
Writer Commentary??.......2007-09-06
All I have to say is that I sure hope this DVD has feature-length writer commentary from Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio like the previous films did, as it truly turned out to be a MAJOR highlight with those DVDs. I've read that they have not yet recorded any commentary, but they give so much needed insight (needed especially for this film in particular) that their commentary is a MUST. It would be a bit of a disappointment without.
This Is Why Pirates Suck.......2007-09-05
Pirates have always made a terrible theme for a movie. You don't see a lot of big hits based on them do you? I enjoyed the first installment of the trilogy. The second took a sharp dive in the wrong direction. Now, if you took someone who had never seen the movies and told them to watch part one and then watch part 3 right after that, they would be disgusted with how awful the acting has gotten and worse how dull and dry the dialog as well as the story-line had gotten. If you watch all 3 in order you would hardly notice this, take out part two and it becomes more evident that the creators were in a rush to finish a story and get their pay checks.
Why many people hate this movie.......2007-09-04
I think that i know the reason that many people say that the 3rd pirates movie was horrible. I think that it is because people don't watch after the credits!!! After the credits in the 1st movie it shows the monkey grabbing a coin from the chest, and becoming immortal, after the second movie it shows the dog on a throne with a crown, and a big bone in his mouth plus all of the island people are worshipping him!! and of course after the 3rd movie it shows Elizabeth walking towards the beach with her nine or 10 year old daughter, and then it shows Will appearing on davy Jone's (sorry if i spelled that wrong!) ship, and meeting Elizabeth and his daughter. SO IT ISN'T A SAD ENDING LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE THOUGHT IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also if people couldn't follow the plot then maybe they should pay more attention!!!
Pirates 3=Worst Movie of ALL TIME!.......2007-09-04
After being truly engrossed by the first two Pirates movies I was all set for the third movie but I could never have anticipated the letdown. I was stunned at the utter lack of a story in this truly awful movie. The Pirate Lords???? Hallucinatory Jack seeing multple Jack Sparrows??? Swann as Pirate King???? Keith Richards never looked so uncool and silly. What trash. Don't listen to the people who start their reviews of this movie with "I don't care what people say, I loved this movie" It's a lie. Nobody could love this movie and I was a HUGE fan of the first 2. I have never got up and walked out of a movie but I never came closer than this garbage. I couldn't wait for it to be over it was so stupid. Not only will I not buy this DVD to complete the trilogy, but At World's End was so horrid it actually lowered my opinion of the first two. Stay away and hope Depp & Co. actually try with the next one.

It's the greatest work of literature, but nobody had ever filmed Hamlet uncut--until Kenneth Branagh went about the task for his lavish 1996 production. The result is a sumptuous, star-studded version that scores a palpable hit on its avowed goal: to make the text as clear and urgent as possible. Branagh himself plays the melancholy son of the Danish court, caught in a famous muddle about whether to seek revenge against his royal father's presumed slayer
the man who now sits on the throne and shares the bed of Hamlet's mother. (Or, as the song "That's Entertainment" summarizes the plot: "A ghost and a prince meet / And everyone winds up mincemeat.") As a director, Branagh (who shot the movie in 70 mm.) uses the vast, cold interiors of a vaguely 19th-century manor to gorgeous effect; the story might scurry down this hallway, into that back chamber, or sprawl out into the enormous main room. With its endless collection of mirrors, the place is as big and empty as Citizen Kane's Xanadu.
That all works; what doesn't work is Branagh's tendency to over-direct the big dramatic moments. He indulges in quick cutting and flashbacks as though to fend off the audience's objections to the four-hour running time, and the style sometimes looks like wasted energy. The experienced Shakespearians in the cast come off nicely; Derek Jacobi's Claudius, Richard Briers' Polonius, and Michael Maloney's Laertes are just terrific. Julie Christie is a suitably attractive Gertrude, and Kate Winslet makes the most of Ophelia's mad scenes. Branagh's habit of folding in unexpected American performers is on the mark, too: Billy Crystal is surprisingly good as the Gravedigger, Robin Williams predictably camps up Osric, and Charlton Heston is an inspired choice as the grandiloquent Player King. The biggest irony here is that Branagh himself is not quite spot-on as Hamlet. Of course he speaks the lines beautifully, but Branagh's screen personality radiates certainty and clarity of vision; there's little of the doubt that might make him Hamlet-esque. Still, tremendous credit for fending off slings and arrows to get the movie made. --Robert Horton

Greatest Movie of the Greatest Play Ever Written.......2007-09-15
I have taught Hamlet in an inner city high school at least 15-20 times. This film does for Shakespeare what no other film has ever done: it deeply engages your emotions. You care about Hamlet. For all his faults, the kids ended up loving him and missing him when it was over. That is the only way to get people to engage intellectually with the play. The play and film, when studied together, are the equivalent of the Krell Brain-Booster if you know Forbidden Planet. I've seen all the other available Hamlet films from Olivier to Burton to Gibson to Kline to Jacoby. With the exception of Jacoby, whose interpretation is at least interesting, don't bother with the others. Is Branaugh's Hamlet perfect? No, but that is like asking Creation to be perfect. Imperfection is, paradoxically, what makes the play so great. One 's view of it changes every time it is read or viewed in this film. One can never pluck out the heart of its mystery. If there is only one Shakespeare film you ever watch, make it this one.
Best version of Hamlet.......2007-09-15
Firstly thanks to Warner Home video for finally getting this onto DVD, only took 10 years.
Ken Branagh has outdone himself in this production. Simply an Excellent adaption of Hamlet. Probably THE BEST EVER. Superb cast, Great sets and the musical score just puts in all together.
If you liked Branagh's Henry V or Othello You have to see this
Methinks Kenneth doth overact too much.......2007-09-12
Im a huge fan of KB. He made shakespeare real, brought meaning to the dialog in a way that no other actor has or perhaps will. Henry V is the finest on screen portrayal of a any shakespearean play. I adored Hamlet, but I felt it was slightly OTT, vaudevillian and camp. However, I hate to be critical of a piece that reaches for perfection. Mel Gibson's Hamlet was in my opinion much better in terms of the complete piece (although KB's own portrayal is on a different level) and more compelling a movie.
So much praise..........2007-09-10
The juxtaposition of the late 19th century settings and Shakespearian English creates an air of a Broadway musical. For the first 15 minutes it seemed the actors would burst into some uncontrollable dancing and singing of silly verses. Hamlet's gesticulation, facial expression and manners (throwing his mother-queen in her bedroom like a ball) are more suitable for a hotdog vendor than a prince. Plenty of innovation such as a politically-correct multi-racial court and army. Aside from the aforementioned 19th century set, Ophelia's flashback of sex with Hamlet, nearly Siberian-deep snow (was it cheaper to rent the facilities in the winter?), pursuing the ghost across a battlefield, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern riding a locomotive - those are real gems. Lots of group fencing (some other Olympic sport or a football game would be very refreshing too). Ophelia in a straightjacket leaves no room for doubt - yes, she's insane. But the best one is the entire Norwegian army discretely approaching the palace and storming it while the unaware royals and unsuspecting courtiers enjoy a brawl complete with falls off a balcony and swinging chandeliers. And of course, Branagh lying in state is a great sight.
He must be given credit for his strict adherence to the original text though.
Lavish Production.......2007-09-10
I have seen Olivier's and Gibson's renditions of Hamlet and each has much to recommend it, but this is my absolute favorite. I purchased the VHS as a used copy from the video store and carefully preserved it as I anxiously awaited the DVD release. The dvd tranfer looks great. I have a 36" Sony TV, but no high definition. The music is beautiful and suited to each act, the sets spectacular, and the main characters are excellent in their portrayals. I love the intense passion Branagh gives to his Hamlet, the period setting he uses, the fact that the entire play is included and his attention to detail. The only weakness for me is in the performance of a couple of the secondary characters.

No HD DVD version.......2007-08-23
If I were the same as all the Blu-Ray fanboys, I'd rate this movie 1 star and complain that it's not on HD DVD and say how Sony has Disney in their pocket etc and swear I'll never buy any version of this movie until it comes out on HD DVD and secretly go buy the standard def version and have it packaged in discreet brown packaging.
That being said, Dead Man's Chest was not as good as the Curse of the Black Pearl, and only slightly better than the 3rd movie.
Disney delivers magic on Blu-ray.......2007-08-06
This movie was simply amazing in picture quality and sound. I had already owned Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest on standard DVD. When I compared the standard DVD with the Blu-ray version the Blu-ray outperforms on all levels. The scenes in the movie where you see the islands and ships sailing the ocean were very beautiful. Dead Man's Chest on Blu-ray delivers such sharp crisp picture quality. The people, plants, grass, and trees looked so real it was like you could reach out and touch them. Simply put everything looks life like in this Blu-ray movie. Also when watching Blu-ray scenes Davy Jones and his crew look very real. Unlike the standard version DVD you can actually tell Davy Jones crew have facial features. The sound quality of this Blu-ray movie was also very great as well. For all you Blu-ray naysayers when I compared watching the standard DVD versus Blu-ray the standard dvd looked like a bootleg movie. Yeah I couldn't believe myself but there it was. I could not believe how much I was missing out from the Blu-ray movie. Oh did I mention that I received an amazing Blu-ray experience with a outdated setup. I used my 1080i HDTV ,component cables, and Playstaion 3. Imagine how much better this Dead Man's Chest Blu-ray movie would look on a 1080p hdmi setup with surround sound! Overall this Dead Man's Chest Blu-ray was amazing and is the best Blu-ray movie out right now. I finally want to say that Disney you truly delivered a magical masterpiece on Blu-ray. Great job Disney keep delivering the Blu-ray magic : ) :) :)
Solid movie with brilliant picture and crisp sound make this a must-buy for Blu-Ray owners!.......2007-08-04
If you own a Blu-Ray player, this is a must-buy movie! If you're just a fan of great movies overall, this is a must-buy movie! Johnny Depp delivers in this non-stop action/adventure film, with loads of laughs as well. You all should know what this flick is about, so I will not go into details on that. If you are thinking of getting this movie on Blu-Ray but you already own it on SD-DVD, then that choice is up to you. The picture is pristine on BD-DVD, and the audio quality is very clean and crisp.
I own a very cheap HDTV and sound system that I purchaed for my 15-month tour here in Iraq and am blown away by the quality and differance compared to the standard-def version of this movie. Simply put, if you own this movie already, it is entirely up to you if you wish to purchase and view it in high-def. But for those of you who do not own any version of this flick then the decision should be a no-brainer-buy this now!
Disney did a flawless job with this one, loaded with extras and bonus material galore. I'm not really big on the extras and junk, but all Blu-Ray releases should be as jam packed as this one. Way to go Disney and I look forward to future releases from you guys in the future!
Wow, amazing picture!!.......2007-08-04
I did a comparison with my 720p HDTV with this in my PS3 and my original DVD in my DVD player, and the picture quality is amazing in this Blu-Ray release. I would find a screen with a lot of detail and pause it and flip back and forth, and I can see details on Blu-Ray of things that I just couldn't make out on the DVD release. Add that to the fact that the Pirates series is, to date, one of the biggest and best trilogies since 2000, makes this Blu-Ray release a must have for any owner of a Blu-Ray player. I am really glad that I repurchased this in HD format. Thanks for picking my format side Disney!
Great Quality.......2007-07-25
Much in the same way movies like Top Gun were "show off" movies for the DVD format this movie really shows the quality in Blu-Ray.
The difference is very apparant in darker scenes where on a DVD the picture might not show everything as well as it does on the BD.
Plus the extra disc includes very interesting stuff. The little thing that shows Captain Jack and explains every detail that went into making the costume really shows off what some of the people in the credits go through to make Jack look the way he does. And shows how much of a primadonna Johnny Depp is!

Customer Reviews:
Buy the DVD version instead - until Disney re-release it........2007-09-08
Disney will be re-releasing this version as it contains 9 minutes of incorrectly framed footage. In this Blu-ray version people are being decapitated, and not by pirates! For those 9 minutes, the framing is about 12% lower than it should be.
The DVD version is framed 100% correctly - so buy that one until Disney issues a new Blu-ray release of this title.
Buyer beware! Heads lopped off!.......2007-09-05
There is a serious framing problem for 9 minutes of the movie, where the frame is lower than it should be. So you will be looking at groins and torsos instead of full faces.
Misframed for 10 min.......2007-09-03
About 9 or 10 min of this film is framed incorrectly. The sequence in question is the sword fight between Jack Sparrow and Will Turner in the blacksmith's shop. The image is shifted down so at some points the actors are actually delivering dialog with their heads cut off. I would avoid ordering this title until Disney issues a corrected version.
Big framing problem on Blu-ray version.......2007-08-30
Disney made some mistakes on the Blu-ray release and some scenes are misframed. The original film was shot using the Super 35 process (1.85:1) and cut to a 2:35:1 ratio for theaters and home release. Some scenes that required framing at the top of the film image were center cut instead, so heads are cut off, and there are numerous revealing mistakes such as exposed floorboards when they should be fighting on rafters 10 ft off the ground! I would wait for a corrected version.
Problems with Playback.......2007-08-25
I have a Samsung BDP 1000 - in the BD package from Disney you get 2 disks, one special features and the game and the movie itself. The movie is unplayable even with the latest firmware update for the player but strangely the Special features disk is fine. Unfortunately I am returning these 2 disney Pirates BD's

Customer Reviews:
So, why was this panned?.......2007-09-09
A quick glance at the Rotten Tomatoes website, where various critics across the country review new releases and DVDs, shows that the third "Pirates" film received a measly 45% of positive reviews from national and internet critics. A good majority of the top critics at various newspapers and media outlines panned it. I and the millions of others who packed the box office can hardly imagine why. Maybe because the movie isn't an artsy-fartsy independent film or an incomprehensible foreign flick that deludes itself into thinking it speaks intelligently on geopolitical matters. These movies are now considered the "cream of the crop" in cinema, while the public almost ignores them, including myself. Instead of watching them, I'd like to give a hearty "Yo Ho!" and a strong pat on the back to director Gore Verbinski and his terrific cast, especially the insatiable Johnny Depp, for a sea-faring voyage better than practically anything Hollywood has dished out since 2005's "King Kong". "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" is just as wonderful as the previous two, and it would be a shame to see it end here, but the filmmakers know how to quit while they're ahead. I cannot say the same for "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars".
Picking up where the twisty storylines of "Dead Man's Chest" left off, "At World's End" follows Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) as the crew of the "Black Pearl" sail through Singapore and icy northern waters to rescue the devious Captain Jack Sparrow, cursed away to the depths of Davy Jones' (Bill Nighy) Locker. Meanwhile, the grim fate of the pirates grows even darker now that Davy Jones has teamed up with Lord Beckett, the notorious leader of the East India Trading Company, hellbent on world domination. Out on a sea of countless directions and dangers, the pirates must unite to save their lootin' skins from a nasty mass extinction. Nonetheless, this doesn't stop a few dastardly landlubbers from trying to save their own skins, that which include the conniving Jack.
One of the main criticisms this film received was its supposedly confusing plotline. If critics can understand something like the Brad Pitt art film "Babel", "Pirates" should be like a piece of cake to follow, which in fact it is. As long as you pay at least some attention and actively engage what you're saying (no dozing off!), the story is a breeze to discern. However, it is best to recall a few of the details found in "Dead Man's Chest" and even of the first film, because there are some humorous asides which harken back to the original. A second mistaken criticism was the movie's length. Well, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" was about 138 minutes, yet still felt like a miserable 4-hour slog, while "Pirates" is 168 minutes and feels like a slim 90 minutes. Of course, I was more focused on the excitement of this movie than the drudgery of "Potter", which betrayed its predecessors' spirits. "Pirates" enriches its predecessors.
Many people felt disappointed with the second movie, but I thought that movie was a blast, even more than the first one. "At World's End" is in some respects even better than "DMC". It is significantly more sinister, but not always, and there are still deft touches of humor and the occasional lighthearted performances from the supporting pirates. The lead actors also do a magnificent job: Depp is Depp, of course. Geoffrey Rush is true to form as Barbossa, a much welcomed surprise, and even Keira Knightley delivers her strongest take yet as the strong-willed Elizabeth. Yes, Orlando Bloom does a good job also, but some people don't usually enjoy hearing that. But Legolas can indeed act.
Yo Ho, Yo Ho, epic moviemaking returns with a vengeance. A pirate's life for me.
Arrgh!.......2007-09-08
Like the other two sequels that came out earlier this month, I was very eager to see "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" this weekend. I was actually dying to see this movie more than any other movie than I can possibly have think about seeing throughout the entire year. "The Curse of the Black Pearl" was a classic. It has some great action sequences and led a significant impact for a Disney PG-13 rated film. The first sequel, "Dead Man's Chest" had a similiar plot, but it still had the chance to live up to its predecessor, and for the most part, it did.
So does it mean that the new Pirates movie opening this weekend, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," lives up to its predecessors or not? The answer to that is, it does.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" leaves off where the previous Pirates movie, "Dead Man's Chest," leaves off with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) getting eaten by the Kraken. With the help of the strongest, but yet grew out of evil, pirate, Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), his friends Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightley) go to World's End to free him back along with his ship, the Black Pearl.
Now, evil has come through its way. A samurai by the name of Captain Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat) tries to take the battle between the pirates, who take over the Black Pearl. But then after he dies, it leads to Elizabeth Swann to take over as captain of his ship, The Empress. Although with orders from the East Indian Trading Company, Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann and Hector Barbossa must fight along against Davy Jones and Cutler Beckett to restore peace. Yet, Will Turner needs the chance to rescue his father, Bootstrap Bill, from Davy Jones's locker.
The story is very long. Obviously, it can get a little confusing, but that's nothing to worry about, even though it's a new problem. It's actually quite decent, and it does fit well for a 3 hour movie. But yes, Disney does say enough for it to be a PG-13 rating film. Although, it sure makes sense to feature half the story in "Dead Man's Chest" and the remaining half here. But the last hour was definitely worth it for a 3 hour movie.
The actors were really good -- even Kiera Knightly as Elizabeth Swann. The movie does feature really cool actors like Johnny Depp. Usually, when I think of Depp as one thing, I think of him as Captain Sparrow. I know that a lot of ladies would die to see this, because of Orlando Bloom. He sure fits the role for Will Turner, the boyfriend of Elizabeth Swann as well as Jack Sparrow's sidekick.
Everyone steps aside as we meet new actors, and we all know about Chow Yun-Fat, previously seen in "The Curse of the Golden Flower," in this film as Captain Sao Feng. Chow Yun-Fat leads a turning point for this movie, especially with all those chinese fighting costumes and nice costume designs. But however, Chow Yun-Fat did a great job playing Captain Sao Feng, and he sure delivers the new goods for the movie.
To sum it all up, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" was so much better than its predecessor, "Dead Man's Chest," and it lives up to its predecessors. If I think of Johnny Depp as one thing, I'd think of him as Captain Jack Sparrow, and that's what he's best for. I would see this movie many times, and that wouldn't be a thing in me when they come close to 3 hours.
Not To Be MISSED!!!.......2007-09-03
Oh this movie is not to missed if you're a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. The ending is exciting, breathtaking, poignant, and bittersweet on so many levels but yet I think all the arrivals of each charater in their journey's destination was well written and thought out, not to mention well acted.
These movies have everything a person could want in a good movie: action, adventure, romance, humor and great memorable characters you can root for or love to hate!
What is there not to love about Pirates of the Caribbean? Do yourself a favor and watch the trilogy if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed if you love each of the things I listed above.
the end of a saga.......2007-08-26
Pirates 3 brings the series to an end and with great adventure, action and characters.
I simply liked it.......2007-08-24
Some people tend to over analyze movies. This movie was entertaining and fun. I loved the ending after the credits.

Fantastic Hi Def .......2007-08-29
This film in Blu Ray format is a must have for any Hi def fan.
The transfer & detail is fantastic.
The only word of advice is make sure your player has the latest firmware update or it won't play.
Buy it !!!
A pretty good addition to the series..........2007-07-28
While the first pirates was amazing and caught the eye of many many people the second one in most peoples eyes was a dissapointment. However, it is always hard to make a great sequel. However in hindsight, after watching the 3rd pirates it makes the second much better because the 3rd one will explain many things that left us questioning things in the 2nd pirates. That'd being said i can't wait to pick this up on blu-ray

Product Description
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer (PEARL HARBOR) comes PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, the thrilling high-seas adventure with a mysterious twist. The roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow's (Academy Award(R) Nominee Johnny Depp) idyllic pirate life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the governor's beautiful daughter Elizabeth (Keira Knightley). In a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl, Elizabeth's childhood friend Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) joins forces with Jack. What Will doesn't know is that a cursed treasure has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead. Rich in suspense-filled adventure, sword-clashing action, mystery, humor, unforgettable characters, and never-before-seen special effects, PIRATES is a must-have epic on the grandest scale ever.

You won't need a bottle of rum to enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, especially if you've experienced the Disneyland theme-park ride that inspired it. There's a galleon's worth of fun in watching Johnny Depp's androgynous performance as Captain Jack Sparrow, a roguish pirate who could pass for the illegitimate spawn of rockers Keith Richards and Chrissie Hynde. Depp gets all the good lines and steals the show, recruiting Orlando Bloom (a blacksmith and expert swordsman) and Keira Knightley (a lovely governor's daughter) on an adventurous quest to recapture the notorious Black Pearl, a ghost ship commandeered by Jack's nemesis Capt. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), a mutineer desperate to reverse the curse that left him and his (literally) skeleton crew in a state of eternal, undead damnation. Director Gore Verbinski (The Ring) repeats the redundant mayhem that marred his debut film Mouse Hunt, but with the writers of Shrek he's made Pirates into a special-effects thrill-ride that plays like a Halloween party on the open seas. Aye, matey, we've come a long way since Jason and the Argonauts! --Jeff Shannon

GREAT.......2007-09-16
This is the #1 movie of the centry. Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth, and every one else are very beleivable characters that you can hitch your emotional wagons to. YO HO A PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME!!!!!
Swashbuckling is back........2007-09-15
I didn't expect much from a movie that was made after an amusement park ride, but I must say I was more than pleasantly surprised. This is one of my favorite movies. It has everything. A great cast, a great story, great action, and wonderful visuals. You'll believe you are back in time and living with cutthroats. But wait there's more, you also have a supernatural element that makes this like Lord of the Rings meets Black Beard the pirate.
The whole idea seems rediculous, but with Johnny Depp as CAPTIAN Jack Sparrow, he makes it all work. Too be fare Orlando Bloom as Will Turner is the actual hero of the story, but without a doubt Depp is the star. The movie would not work without him at such a great level.
Then there is Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann, who is as lovely as she is adventrous. Knightley really is a great actress and her character is essential to the story so she isn't just another pretty girl in an action movie, though undoubtedly she is absolutely beautiful.
I won't go into the story since others here have already, but I will say that if you love pirate movies or action movies or comedies or romance or horror movies, this movie has it all and it's all top notch. This is a must see and one of the best in the decade it was made.
A nice popcorn film.......2007-09-08
The first of the three Pirates movie was a nice summer popcorn film, which recalled not only the Pirates movies of classic Hollywood but also those great George Pal and Ray Harryhausen stop-motion monster epics of a later time. It wasn't until the second movie, when suddenly the filmmakers decided audiences had been taking Pirates seriously, did the story begin to get bogged down in complicated mythologies and convoluted sci-fi goofiness.
sounded like a bad idea.......2007-09-04
This movie was a nice surprise; any movie based on a Disney World ride is automatically suspect, but this one transcends its bizarre inspiration and ends up being a fun action movie, largely due to the strength of the performances of Depp and Rush. Unfortunately, the other actors in the movie are rather bland compared to those two and the movie feels kind of flat when they are not onscreen.

Depp's big payday.......2007-09-04
I really enjoyed Johnny Depp's mid-1990s work, particularly "Ed Wood," "Dead Man" and "Donnie Brasco." Much has been made of his "Keith Richards meets Pepe Le Peu"-inspired riff in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, but the truth is that Depp is clearly slumming here (perhaps deservedly so after two decades of assiduously avoiding the big payday-style blockbuster).
A lot of other good talent is going to waste at the service of these amusement-park ride driven plots, particularly Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley (who, if she loses more weight, runs the risk of being mistaken for one of the skeletons on Rush's ghost ship).
Intermittently entertaining but ultimately unsatisfying.

Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the strong suit of the franchise, as the film excels during its stunt pieces, which are impressively extravagant (in particular a three-way swordfight atop a mill wheel). It may help to know that Dead Man's Chest was filmed simultaneously with some of Pirates 3, so don't expect a complete resolution (think more The Empire Strikes Back) or the movie will feel a lot longer than it really is.

Bloom shows a tad bit more brawn this time around, but he's still every bit as pretty as the tomboyish Knightley. (Seriously, sometimes you think they could swap roles.) Bill Nighy (Love, Actually) weighs in as Davy Jones and Stellan Skarsgård appears as Will's undead father. But the film still belongs wholly to Depp, who in a reprise of his Oscar-nominated role gets all the belly laughs with a single widened eyeliner-ed gaze. He still runs like a cartoon hen and slurs like Keith Richards--and he's still one of the most fascinating movie characters in recent history. --Ellen A. Kim

JOHNNY DEPP! yep........2007-09-15
Johnny looks so good in this movie, however I don't get why he talks like he is drunk. But hes a good pirate. very different to other pirate movies though, with the introduction of the "dead/gohst" pirates. Not suitable for children. Good movie
A great sequel.......2007-09-04
This is one of those rare sequels which surpasses the original in quality. It reminded me of Godfather 2 in this respect. It also features some of the best CGI I have ever seen; Davy Jones is so realistic-looking that I thought he was an animatronic mask rather than computer graphics.

Aye Aye Cap'n Jack.......2007-09-03
Good movie, but let's face it, even if it sucked, I would love it because Johnny and Orlando make some YUMMY PIRATES!!!!!!!
Captain Jack Sparrow.......2007-09-01
Of the three, my least favorite - action scenes were a bit long for my taste - but still loved it - especially the character of Captain Jack Sparrow!
Product Description
Ever since she was a young girl, Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) has been able to see and talk to dead people--earth bound spirits who have yet to cross over to the other side and who seek her help in communicating and resolving unfinished business with the living. Melinda sometimes has a hard time accepting her "gift," especially now that she's a newlywed and looking forward to starting her new life with her husband, Jim Clancy (David Conrad), a paramedic. Her friend and business partner in the antique store, Andrea Moreno (Aisha Tyler), is fascinated by Melinda's talent. Although Melinda embraces her unique "abilities" as a blessing and sometimes a curse, she always helps her clients--alive or dead--find emotional closure.

Good,Clean, Fun entertainment.......2007-09-16
The best part of The Ghost Whisperer is that it doesn't try to be anything other than what is; fun, entertaining escapism. That's what TV should be. No show on the air is for everyone, I couldn't stand 'Friends' the entire time it was on the air. We need more shows like this. No Issues, No statements just escapism......remember those days? Threes Company, Frasier, My Wife and Kids, Cheers..........So many great shows.
There is too much mindless junk on TV these days and shows like The Ghost Whisperer are, for me anyway, an oasis in a desert of low brow programming.
Ghost Whisperer.......2007-08-22
Its funny, scary at times and sexy thanks to Miss Hewitt. It is enjoyable without being overly gory.
Ghost Whisperer.......2007-08-21
I started watching this show from the very beginning, mainly because it was a chance to sit and stare at Jennifer Love Hewitt for an hour each week. But, each succeeding episode raised the show in my eyes, and then with the shocking (well, I never saw it coming) ending of the first season, it became one of my "can't miss" shows each week.
Season two got even better. Sure, there were some episodes that didn't really contribute to the drama, but all were well done, and then the surprise ending of Season Two (again, I never saw it coming) made me wish the summer would end so we could get to Season Three.
Love this show :-).......2007-07-22
Ghost Whisperer is still a favourite of mine even though it's dropped from Australian TV radar (for whatever reason). Through the magic of technology, I've now seen this whole season and I found it as great as the first season.
My favourite episodes are Love Still Won't Die (where Melinda has to deal with an ex, plus a shoplifting teen who's not sure why he's committing the crime), The Woman Of His Dreams (where a dream sends Melinda to her mother on the eve of surgery, but the dream transfers to Jim and he must find a way to help a ghost he can't see while Melinda is out of town) and also The Collector (Melinda comes across another ghost whisperer, and he may have some answers for her about shifts in the spirit world, but the information comes at a price).
You definately have to suspend your belief of reality when you watch this. It's good escapism (although it's not always best to watch it right before bedtime), and I love the characters and I also love her husband Jim. Overall, it's such a fun show to watch and I can't wait to get my copy ASAP.
GHOST WHISPERER SEASON 2.......2007-07-12
BROUGHT IT FOR MY SISTER I'M STILL WAITING FOR IT BECAUSE IT OUT ON SEPTEMBER.

Once intended as a feature for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating feature film adaptation of Marvel Comics' cult title Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a skull-faced angel of vengeance to battle the forces of evil. Though perhaps a bit too mature for the role, Cage brings a degree of humor to the outrageous proceedings; he's well matched by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly cast as Mephistopheles, the demon with whom Blaze strikes a bargain to save his father, and in turn, causes his transformation into Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is also fine as Blackheart, the rebellious offspring of Mephistopheles, and Blazes' chief opponent in the film. They're joined by a solid supporting cast which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their participation and a relentless barrage of CGI effects can't hide the fact that the story itself, though largely faithful to its comic origins, is rife with clichéd characterizations and glum B-movie dialogue. Fans of the venerable title may cry foul over this adaptation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson's previous comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but less stringent viewers may enjoy the fiery visuals and Cage's typically quirky performance. --Paul Gaita

Ghost Rider.......2007-09-17
This movie did not live up to my expectations. I was expecting funny but what I got was completely different. Still a good movie but another one I am glad I did not go to the theaters and see.
Not to Cheesie.......2007-09-10
This was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Special effects are not that bad, Mr Nic Cage does a great job with what it is.
Ghost Rider, fast paced.......2007-09-09
Nicholas Cage (Gone in 60 Seconds) and Sam Elliott (Conagher), two giants and persaonal favorites. Make a pact with the devil and pay the price as did Johnny Blaze. Super adventure movie.
Constantine meets the Prophecy trilogy.......2007-09-09
I have to say that I am not familiar with any Ghost Rider comics, games or had had any other contact with the character apart from this movie so I cannot compare the character to other sources, nor can I take part in discussing the technicalities and the specifics like other reviewers have. Therefore, coming from someone that did not "know" Johnny Blaze prior to the film I have to say that the movie was pretty good!
Ghost Rider brings to the screen the story of a young man who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for curing his father's cancer.
There are slight hints of the X-Files, and strong/obvious elements of the Ninth Gate (starring Johnny Depp), Constantine (starring Keanu Reeves), and the Prophecy trilogy (starring Christopher Walkin), so the movie falls into the action/adventure/mystery/thriller/horror type of category.
Nicolas Cage and most of the rest of the cast carry out their performances well (Blackheart and Mephistopheles could have been played much better).
The plot, the setting, the dialogues, the music, and the special effects, are all good.
Ghost Rider is a movie guaranteed to provide for an evening's entertainment.
In short, I would definitely line up to watch a sequel!
Nicely done!.......2007-09-07
I grew up reading the comics of the Ghost Rider and loved it. So, when Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes were cast in this, I was less than hopeful. Didn't even see it in the theatres since I was expecting something along the lines of Daredevil, ie. a horrible adaptation serving as nothing more than a vehicle for the actors in the movie. I gotta say, I was very surprised. It was faithful to the comic while giving the story it's own spin. The casting and the effects was great and they even tipped their hat to the original Ghost Rider comic which was a western. Nicely done!
Watching this in Blu-Ray was amazing!! The colors, clarity and sound sucked you right into the movie. I hope they make another and take full advantage of what a great character they have. Just make him a tad darker in the next one. I'd like to see the flaming skull head that laughs as he sears the souls of his enemies.
