Comprised of former members of Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell grew out of a 2006 reunion of post-Ozzy frontman Ronnie James Dio, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Vinny Appice for the purpose of recording new tracks for a Sabbath compilation called The Dio Years. Heaven & Hell then toured, drawing deep from the Dio-era Sabbath catalogue. The masterful Heaven & Hell: Live from Radio City Music Hall is one result of that rekindled partnership, a two-hour, Gothic metal marathon filmed in 2007 before a thrilled New York City audience. Largely comprised of classic Sabbath material, the show unfolds with a deceptive ease. The seasoned bandmates play with graceful concentration even as they plunge into the maw of doomstruck power chords and grinding riffs, the wiry Dio stalking Heaven & Hell's swampy sound like some fusion of a crow and benevolent overlord. At times, it's impossible not to contradict oneself while trying to describe the group's intricate, paradoxical sound: "Children of the Sea," for instance, is somehow both a snaking and watery mystery. "E5150/After All (The Dead)" is equally epic and nonchalant. "I" is a show-stopping, nightmarish blues that leans toward the anthemic, while "Falling Off the Edge" is highlighted by a molten rhythm and Dio's taut vocal. This is a fine outing from a historic ensemble. --Tom Keogh

Pure class...Top notch in every way!.......2007-09-15
All pistons were firing the night they shot this show as the band showcases their great songs from the past and present. DIO sounded fabulous and I loved how they warmed up the audience with the moody and powerful After All from Dehumanizer. When DIO unleashes his howl and they rip into Mob Rules the crowd just goes nuts. And why not? This historic band looks and sounds terrific and their stage set and lighting are brilliantly matched to the music. The second half of the show is even better than the first and Iommi just shreds on guitar. Lonely is the Word and Falling Off the Edge of the World were awesome. Geezer and Vinnie are also in fine form and perfectly in synch. We even get treated to an old fashioned drum solo from Vinnie, who still has a few tricks up his sleeve. Hats off to the director and video editor for allowing us to experience this show without cutting the action so fast. Beatifully planned out and put together. I'm 41, but felt like a teenager again jumping up after every song making the sign and howling, "YEAH!"
THE BEST METAL.......2007-09-13
THIS CD IS THE BEST HEAVY METAL LIVE CD RELEASED IN YEARS BY ANY BAND
THE SOUND OF DIO,APPICE,IOMMI AND BUTLER IS VINTAGE HARD ROCK AT ITS FINEST. YOUNGINS TAKE NOT THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT AND DO IT WELL!
WOW! True Metal is Back!!.......2007-09-10
Are you a fan of true heavy metal? Are you a fan of Black Sabbath with the great singer frontman Ronnie James Dio? If you are, buy this historic DVD. THis was the Dio led Sabbath's first show in the USA in 15 years. It was as if they never had separated. Dio's voice at 65+ is still one of the best rock and roll and heavy metal have ever heard. He can still hit the notes, high, low and menacing. This DVD is not only entertaining, but historic. We may never see this powerful lineup again on stage after this current Heaven and Hell tour. My suggestion is buy this DVD and if you get a chance to see them, DO IT!
Butler's bass work is fantastic, Appice is a master on the drums, and Iommi is a true metal god on the guitar. He is the master of heavy metal riffs. From the menacing and plodding After All ( The Dead) to the last track, the great Neon Knights, his talent shows through. One thing I enjoyed was that Dio is a true gentleman, unlike many modern metal singers,he shakes hands with the crowd, introduces the tracks, and gives his thanks and appreciation to the crowd. He related in the "Extras" section of the DVD that the fans are everything, and his and the rest of Sabbath's performance show it. Overall a great DVD.
They hold the key to the gates of hell.......2007-09-04
Saw Heaven & Hell "Live" at the Challenge Stadium in Perth, Australia on the 2nd of August. Their performance were brilliant and Dio's singing is worth the trip to hell. I am buying this DVD to re-live that moment in time. Give me Sabbath with Dio anytime.
YAH KNOW, IT'S NOT BAD AT ALL.......2007-09-03
I've been of the opinion (and many will disagree with me and try to run me off the planet) but Black Sabbath has always been about Ozzy. Until he was forced out of the band, Ozzy was the show. Sure, there were three guys behind him, but everyone watched Ozzy. So, when Ozzy left Black Sabbath, Iommi, Butler, and Ward knew they needed a frontman who was as engaging a presence as Ozzy. I guess they must have thanked their lucky stars when Ronnie James Dio got the boot from Rainbow. Dio is a dream of a frontman. With a powerful voice and a flare for the dramatic, Dio redefined that Black Sabbath and their music. However, when Dio sang the old Black Sabbath standards, they just didn't sound right. Those songs were Ozzy's and he owned them. By the same token, there's no way Ozzy could sing anything from the Heaven and Hell/Mob Rules era because Dio owns those songs in every respect. It was fitting that when this lineup regrouped as "Heaven and Hell", it was only the songs that had Dio's stamp on them that were played. This performance, like the one I saw, is pure power. I was skeptical about seeing another reunion of a bunch of guys cashing in on their former glory. I was wrong -- oh so wrong. From the opening shot of "The Mob Rules", Dio rips through these songs with Herculian strength. He is a passionate and energic performer with few rivals. As for Iommi, Butler, and the wildly under-rated Vinnie Appice, they deliver strong workmanlike performances that never fail to please.

It's hard to believe Ridley Scott's handsome epic won't become the cinematic touchstone of the Crusades for years to come. Kingdom of Heaven is greater than the sum of its parts, delivering a vital, mostly engrossing tale following Balian (Orlando Bloom), a lonely French blacksmith who discovers he's a noble heir and takes his father's (Liam Neeson) place in the center of the universe circa 1184: Jerusalem. Here, grand battles and backdoor politics are key as Scott and first-time screenwriter William Monahan fashion an excellent storyline to tackle the centuries-long conflict. Two forward-thinking kings, Baldwin (Edward Norton in an uncredited yet substantial role) and Saladin (Ghassan Massoud), hold an uneasy truce between Christians (who hold the city) and Muslims while factions champ at the bit for blood. There are good and evildoers on both sides, with the Knights Templar taking the brunt of the blame; Balian plans to find his soul while protecting Baldwin and the people. The look of the film, as nearly everything is from Scott, is impressive: his CGI-infused battle scenes rival the LOTR series and, with cinematographer John Mathieson, create postcard beauty with snowy French forests and the vast desert (filmed in Morocco and Spain). An excellent supporting cast, including Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and David Thewlis, also help make the head and heart of the film work. Many critics pointed out that Bloom doesn't have the gravitas of Russell Crowe in the lead (then again, who does?), but it's the underdeveloped character and not the actor that hurts the film and impacts its power. Balian isn't given much more to do than be sullen and give an occasional big speech, alongside his perplexing abilities for warfare tactics and his wandering moral compass (whose sole purpose seems to be to put a love scene in the movie). Note: all the major characters except Neeson's are based on fact, but many are heavily fictionalized. --Doug Thomas
On the DVD
The Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut is truly a DVD set of biblical proportions. If you are familiar with Ridley Scott's excellent, albeit massive, extended DVD sets for Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, you have a pretty good idea of what you are in for with this set. The biggest difference--unlike the Gladiator Director's Cut, which had some nice new scenes that really didn't add much to the film--is that this cut of Kingdom of Heaven is a drastic improvement over the theatrical release. This extensive 194-minute version brings the film back to Scott's original vision, maintaining an impressive balance of history, plot, and believable period reenactments and battle scenes. The best way to describe the improvements on the extended version is the film is now able to breathe a bit more, it's less choppy, and it has stronger character development. In addition to the extended scenes (which now span two discs in a clunky Road Show presentation), there is an exhaustive three-hour, six-part documentary detailing every aspect of filmmaking from the development of the "idea" through post-production and release. Also included are three feature-length commentary tracks, the best being the first with Ridley Scott, writer William Monahan, and actor Orlando Bloom. Included on the original release but missing from this set are the A&E/History Channel documentaries, the theatrical cut of the film, and "The Pilgrim's Guide," the fantastic text commentary which pointed out the historical anecdotes as the film played. Fans of the film and completists will probably want to hold onto both versions. However, those picking up Kingdom of Heaven for the first time need only to look to this definitive version. --Rob Bracco
Description
Among the best directors of our time, Ridley Scott (Gladiator), contributes generously to this extraordinary Collector's Edition of Kingdom of Heaven. Featuring his Director's Cut of the film and hours of fascinating extras ? including a six-part tour from conception to completion of filmmaking ? this definitive set makes what Variety called a "genuinely spectacular" film even more so!
An epic marvel that's as beautifully acted as it is visually awesome, Kingdom of Heaven stars Orlando Bloom as Balian, a Jerusalem blacksmith who has lost his family ? and his faith. But when his father (Liam Neeson) shows him his destiny, Balian vows to defend his country, and in the process, falls in love, becomes a formidable leader, and steps forever into history

Exceptional Movie.......2007-09-01
The extended DVD set is definitely more than worth the price. The acting, sets, and action are exceptional. Its a pity that the studio decided to shorten this movie for the cinematic release. But this extended version does justice to Sir Ridley Scott's brilliant creation. We have enjoyed this version immensely and we cannot say enough good things about it.

nice one.......2007-08-10
the BD version had a very nice and clear HD vision, it's really good about the physical side, but I am not quite like the story. it's just like other history movies.
Pristine.......2007-08-06
The blu ray version of this film is pristine! This is the director's cut version and well worth the price! This feature explains the story and background much better than the theatrical version. Plus you get the best possible sound there is. All in all this movie entertains and is historically accurate! Very nice eye candy!!!
Theatrical edits happen all the time..........2007-08-02
Theatrical edits happen all the time, the result often being that we feel a little lost. The story might make an abrupt jump from scene A to scene D, skipping B and C because those scenes just didn't make it into the time budget.
In most cases, I wait to buy the extended version or Director's Cut for that very reason. In this case, though, I'm glad I bought both. Together, they let me see what I believe is the most masterful theatrical edit ever done.
When you watch the Director's Cut, you'll discover a story arc completely left out in the theatrical release. It's not a trivial, throwaway story, either. It's absolutely critical to understanding the context and motivation for Guy de Lusignan's machinations and his obsession with marrying Sibylla.
That the story fell out in the edits does not surprise me. I am awed, though, by how surgically Scott handled things without leaving a glaring hole in the film. He stitched together dialogue, scenes, and transitions seamlessly, removing a line's original meaning while twisting it in the edit, bridging a gap so solidly that you don't notice its absence.
Even -after- watching the Director's Cut, I go back to the theatrical release and see it as its own movie, not just an incomplete, botched studio edit.
If you are only willing to buy one copy of this movie, buy the Director's Cut, by all means. It is worth every dime, and then some. If you're a student of film (amateur or professional, either one,) then I -urge- you to buy both and study them as an exemplar of the "graceful degradation" concept applied to cinema.
Perfect HD Transfer!.......2007-07-29
Although this Blu-Ray edition does not have the supplements as the normal DVD version, it is still worth the buy. If you are just getting into the Blu-Ray family, this movie will make you proud. Not only is the picture & sound quality amazing but the movie itself is great. I have notice not all Blu-Ray movie tranfers are amazing due to which studio is doing the transfers. So far in my experience, 20 Century Fox Blu-Ray movies look the best hands down! And this movie is by that studio. So do not be shy, get out there Blu-Ray family and purchase this film, well worth the Buck!

Waiting and Seeing.......2007-09-10
As much as I love 7th Heaven and want to get the entire series on DVD after being sorely disappointed by the cut scenes and horribly edited episodes on the Season 4 set, this time I am probably going to wait to buy this set, to make sure that this set has complete episodes.
Otherwise I will try to find all the season 5 episodes that I have on VHS tape and convert them to DVD. Whatever episodes I can't find, I will record them off TV instead, because even though the syndicated episodes, have cut scenes, at least the TV versions are edited in such a good way that its difficult to tell what is missing. UNLIKE on the Season 4 DVD where parts were cut off right in the middle of a sentence or just started in the middle of a scene.
I don't have much problem with removed or substituted music. But when they cut scenes - especially in such a shoddy way, I don't want to spend $30 - $40 for a DVD set like that.
Season 4 was a TOTAL disappointment. I really hope Season 5 is better. Till I know for sure that it is, I will NOT be rushing out and buying it like in the past.
Another Season.......2007-09-06
I read that Beverly Mitchell has written another which would be 12 there is a site for 7th heavens fans and that is where i read it out. I haven't seen much of season 5 so i can't wait until its released. i wish it was soon then december though. what would be awesome if the season 6 would come out right after that does.
Buzz-worthy season, that's for sure!.......2007-08-31
Most long-term fans of 7th Heaven had caught onto the show by this season in 2000-2001. Seeing Mary kicked out of the house, I had never seen this show cause so much buzz the next day (I was in high school that year) than that event! Here's to season 5!
7th Heaven's Best Season!.......2007-08-31
I am so happy to see that season 5 is going to be released this year! And just in time for the holiday season as well. This was definitely, in my opinion 7th Heaven's best season and my favorite. The show really started to 'test the waters' with more drama which I thought was a great move on their part.
I think that sometime next year we will start seeing the next couple of seasons come out as well. At least I hope we will. It really depends on how many people purchase this and the other 4 seasons of the show. Hopefully enough people will because this is one show that deserves to have every season out on DVD.
our beloved Camdens grow up and taste reality in 7th Heaven's finest hour.......2007-08-30
I always said that if the DVD manufacturers didn't get around to releasing all 11 seasons of 7th Heaven, I would be satisfied if they could just give us the first five. Well, not only is the series' (arguably) strongest and most credible season hitting stores in early December 2007 (just in time to stick it on your Christmas list if this is one of your favorites), but now that the show's run has finally been completed after 11 historical seasons, there's a good chance that the remaining 6 sets will find their way to DVD in time--and that is great news for the fans who have been loyally tuning in for all these years.
Although I continued watching this show to the very end, when the final episode officially aired in May 2007, it's the first five years that probably had the biggest impact. While Seasons 1-3 focused mainly on the young, fresh, and vibrant Camden family that we came to know and love, Season 4 started suggesting that their lives might be headed in a direction that wasn't yet pronounced in the lives of these tight-knit, generally sunny and optimistic characters. Sure, the 7th Heaven-style drama was never in short supply, but it's this fifth round that really got it down just right, creating pain and heartbreak for Eric, Annie and their 7-children brood without making it too off-the-wall (which started to happen in the show's later years, when plot ideas were scarce and repetition was forced to keep the story alive). I vividly remember this season airing on television, and being a high school sophomore at the time, it was plain to see that they had truly hit their stride, creating real-life emotion and depicting the lives of people who were good and loving Christians, yet vulnerable characters who did not always have all the answers.
The year opened in September 2001 with recent high school graduate Mary's decision to put college on hold for the time being, bumming around her parents' house and (occasionally) working for any employer who is patient enough to keep her around. "Get used to it, because I'm not going to college until I figure out what I'm going to college for," the headstrong 18-year-old tells her mother and father--and when she gets really foolish by purchasing a lavish sports car and ignoring the monthly payment bills, things get just a little bit messier. Loving mother Annie thinks it is best to coddle her through this difficult time and hope that she will eventually come to her senses, but good old Dad knows that it is not quite that simple, and as husband and wife's arguments over the situation grow more frequent, it becomes apparent that Mary's current lease on life might not be in the best interest of the entire family. As for the remainder of the Camden offspring, college student Matt may be reaching an unsettling break in his relationship with Heather, and as his current roommate moves on in his own life, Matt is forced to move back home. 17-year-old Lucy is determined to make her senior year "the best ever," complete with midriff-baring shirts (which Eric quickly remedies by stapling a blouse closed over them) and a Homecoming Queen nomination, but when her relationship with handsome Andrew doesn't work out, she builds a connection with formerly suicidal Mike Pierce, who is finally starting to piece his life back together. High school freshman Simon struggles to fit into his new surroundings, and fifth grader Ruthie (brassy as ever, but also quite a smart little cookie) becomes the first in her family to gain admittance to an elite private school.
Two-year-old twin boys Sam and David are also growing quickly and keeping the family on their toes, as toddlers tend to do, and Eric and Annie try their hardest to keep it all under control, but in the end, this entire season belongs to actress Jessica Biel, whose character undergoes a whole new metamorphosis after being arrested the previous year. Originally determined to work through these troubles and reinvent herself, Mary does what many a teenager in her exact position has done: she grows discouraged, gets stubborn, and risks losing herself to a world of laziness, deception, selfishness, and shockingly, even theft from her baby brothers' savings accounts. Oh yes, and this is also the year that we meet her new friends Frankie and Johnny, two teenage delinquents who work with Mary at the local pizza place, have a baby daughter that they can't seem to take care of, and threaten to pull once-innocent Mary into their own little land of alcohol and drugs.
The emotional power of this season is one that I could write about forever, but in short, if you enjoy this show and want to see it at its absolute best, then I would strongly recommend that you pick up this DVD. The characters are still as solid and loving as ever, but as a dramatic twist hits the plot, you get a glimpse of a real American family with real problems and intense reality to deal with on a regular basis. In addition, among this season's special guest stars are "Full House" prodigies Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who were about 15 at the time and appeared in one episode as the rebellious love interests of Simon and one of his buddies. As teenage girls on the brink of adding more spice to their careers and showing the public that they weren't little kids anymore, the Olsens appeared to have a great time playing two girls who steal from local convenience stores, run out on a restaurant check, and convince innocent Simon Camden to sneak into a nearby movie theater. In retrospect, this wasn't Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at their cutest or most likable, but regardless of that, it's fun to revisit them when they were a little younger.
All in all, it's a season that should not be missed, and although the clean and faith-centered quality of 7th Heaven held up during all those 11 years, this right here is the Camdens in all their glory--with all the drama and success that they strived for, before Ms. Biel exited the show (at least as a regular cast member), and way before a slew of new characters clouded the plot. Also included in this collection is the show's landmark 100th episode, which chronicles Eric's birthday celebration and includes some special surprises for the birthday boy from two of his cherished daughters. It's a genuinely sweet episode and a pleasure to watch--certainly a highlight from Season 5, and perhaps one of the best in the entire series.
My opinion is that the show's downhill descent threw out its first couple of hints in Season 6, but just the same, it remained wholesome television that isn't very prevalent in today's world, and for that, let's hope that the DVD's for the last 6 seasons are not too far behind!

Considered by many to represent a low point in Steven Spielberg's career, 1990's Always did suggest something of a temporary drift in the director's sensibility. A remake of the classic Spencer Tracy film A Guy Named Joe, Always stars Richard Dreyfuss as a Forest Service pilot who takes great risks with his own life to douse wildfires from a plane. After promising his frightened fiancée (Holly Hunter) to keep his feet on the ground and go into teaching, Dreyfuss's character is killed during one last flight. But his spirit wanders restlessly, hopelessly attached to and possessive of Hunter, who can't see or hear him. Then the real conflict begins: a trainee pilot (Brad Johnson), a likable doofus, begins wooing a not-unappreciative Hunter--and it becomes Dreyfuss's heavenly mandate to accept, and even assist in, their budding romance. The trouble with the film is a certain airlessness, a hyper-inventiveness in every scene and sequence that screams of Spielberg's self-education in Hollywood classicism. Unlike the masters he is constantly quoting and emulating in Always, he forgets to back off and let the movie breathe on its own sometimes, which would better serve his clockwork orchestration of suspense and comedy elsewhere. Still, there are lovely passages in this film, such as the unforgettable look on Dreyfuss's face a half-second before fate claims him. John Goodman contributes good supporting work, and Audrey Hepburn makes her final screen appearance as an angel. --Tom Keogh

I leanded how to pilot a plane at Hemet Ryan Field in Hemet, CA and I know that the PBY in this film belonged to Venable Flying Serive and that MAKES this film more special to me than anything........
Fantastic score... wish they left the oldies stuff off.......2007-03-20
I would have preferred more of the etherial Williams music and less of the oldies and country stuff. It's a very good score... very sedate stuff for the most part (and hushed, too... you have to crank the music to hear some of Williams' music)

Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra star in this visually stunning metaphysical tale of life after death. Neurologist Chris and artist Annie had the perfect life until they lost their children in an auto accident; they're just starting to recover when Chris meets an untimely death himself. He's met by a messenger named Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and taken to his own personal afterlife--a freshly drawn world reminiscent of Annie's own artwork, still dripping and wet with paint. Meanwhile a depressed Annie takes her own life, compelling Chris to traverse heaven and hell to save Annie from an eternity of despair.
The multitextured visuals seem to have been created from a lost fairy tale. Heaven recalls the landscape paintings of Thomas Cole and Renaissance architecture complete with floating cherubs, while hell is a massive shipwreck, an upside-down cathedral overgrown with thorns and a sea of groaning faces popping out of the ground (one of those faces is German director Werner Herzog). Williams is the perfect actor to play against the imaginative computer-generated imagery--he himself is a human special effect. But the lack of chemistry between Williams and Sciorra is painfully apparent, and the flashback plot structure flattens the story's impact despite its deeply felt examinations of the heart and the spirit. Still, there's no denying Eugenio Zanetti's triumphant production design and the Oscar-winning special effects, which create a fully formed universe that is at once beautiful, eerie, and a unique example of movie magic. --Shannon Gee

Very, Very Different.......2007-08-28
The cinematography and special effects are totally different than I had seen before. How did they do that? This movie keeps you guessing. Robin crosses the boundary between life and death for the love of his life and finds a life and death struggle. I believe you will either LOVE it or come away neutral towards it because of how different it is.

ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER.......2007-07-12
OK, this is an old review. I watched this movie a long time ago, but recently I watched it again with my girlfriend. She was crying from start to finish. It reminded me of what an amazing movie this is. I'm no big Robbin Williams fan. That's not an insult. I like him. I'm just not a "fan". Never would I have imagined a comedic actor like Williams could produce such an amazing performance. Making people laugh is hard. Making them cry (in a good way) is harder, in my opinion. Williams, and everyone involved in this movie, should be proud of the contribution they've made to this genre. This is one to stand the test of time. This is one to say "If I do nothing else with my life, I did this". Buy it, see it, this movie will touch you.

flat, unoriginal, and over-done.......2007-06-13
This is pretty bad: a guy dies and lives on in some bizarre afterworld, where he rights certain wrongs and gets an idiotically sentimental philosophical perspective on his life and love. Then, of course, he takes a dare and changes the destiny of his great love, etc.
The film totally failed to sweep me into some believable fastasy, but just came off as pretentious and emotionally flaccid. It is a total bore and there is nothing new whatsoever.
It seems that this is not a general opinion, given the other reviews, but this is how I saw iy and I cannot change that if I want to be honest. Not recommended.
Description
One-of-a-kind filmmaker-philosopher Terrence Malick has created some of the most visually arresting movies of the twentieth century, and his glorious period tragedy Days of Heaven, featuring Oscar-winning cinematography by Nestor Almendros, stands out among them. In 1910, a Chicago steel worker (Richard Gere) accidentally kills his supervisor and flees to the Texas panhandle with his girlfriend (Brooke Adams) and little sister (Linda Manz) to work harvesting wheat in the fields of a stoic farmer (Sam Shepard). A love triangle, a swarm of locusts, a hellish fireMalick captures it all with dreamlike authenticity, creating at once a timeless American idyll and a gritty evocation of turn-of-the-century labor.
Customer Reviews:
Great Movie!.......2007-09-12
This is a great movie made even better by being given the Criterion "treatment", so to speak. Wonderful story of love and family gone wrong with an unnerving - but also satisfying - ending. Even better is the fact that this movie is very, very pretty - everything from the main actress to its lavish vistas (which also speak volumes about the films themes/meaning as well - watch closely!). If you haven't seen this film stop reading my review, scroll to the top of the screen, click "Add to shopping cart" and then purchase this edition right away!
P.S. Where's the Criterion edition of Badlands?
Cinema at its Finest.......2007-08-20
Days of Heaven is one of the greatest masterpieces cinema has ever seen. From the cinematography to the pure lyrical nature of the story, this is an unforgettable film. Often cited as the most visually stunning film ever created, it is a suprise that it took Criterion this long to get the rights to distribute it. This is not a typical narrative. This is a Terrence Malick film, so expect it to be slow, moving, and poetic. It is not a plot driven film, it is a mosaic comprised of components such as nature shots, unreliable inner poetic narration, music, sounds of nature, etc. Malick is unique and wonderful, and cannot wait to see Criterion's restored version.
More Product Info Please.......2007-08-13
Malick's Days of Heaven may well be one of the most beautiful visions ever committed to celluloid. That said, though the film already exists on DVD under another label, a pristine Criterion re-issue could be just the ticket, however, I'm looking for some bells and whistles here. The looming question: is there a Malick commentary? (Now that would be a major coup!) What about secondary and background materials? And how many discs in the set? I would hope Criterion's motive in taking on Days of Heaven is to pull out all the stops and give the film the red carpet treatment it richly deserves (And hint, hint: Malick's Badlands, equally deserving, awaits as well) yet product info here is vague. Like alot of people, I'm intrigued - very intrigued - and would like to know more. This could be one of the most significant DVD releases of the year - and keep in mind, Criterion has done exceptionally good work this year with some stellar releases.
Should anyone have additional info, please post a comment.
A CRITERION EDITION! I CAN'T WAIT!.......2007-08-10
Days of Heaven is perhaps the most beautiful film ever made. The knockout cinematography cries out for a theatrical presentation. Watching it on the small screen simply won't do it justice.
The DVD exists, but I haven't purchased it knowing that only a crticial/director's edition will do it any justice in home video format. The Criterion edition should be a dream come true, and I can't wait to see it!

The millennial edition of TV's longest-running family drama gets off to a stressful start when Eric Camden (Stephen Collins) has a heart attack. It turns out to be a mild one, but sets the tone for much of the season. From now on, the minister and father of seven is going to try to take things easier. Suffice to say, the new touchy-feely dad drives the other Camdens crazy, but they do their best to support his recovery. Meanwhile, college sophomore Matt (Barry Watson) finally flies the coop and gets an apartment with family friend John (Chaz Lamar Shepherd, who becomes a regular cast member) and continues to see girlfriend Shana (Maureen Flannigan). Other developments include a spiky 'do for 13-year-old Simon (David Gallagher), community service for Mary (Jessica Biel) due to vandalism ("Sin and Expiation"), and a disappointing diagnosis for Annie's father ("Forget Me Not"). That leaves Lucy (Beverley Mitchell), who decides what to do with her life, Ruthie (Mackenzie Rosman), who gets her first boyfriend, and the twins (Myrinda and Zachary Brino), who celebrate birthday number one. The show also widens its scope to tackle concerns outside the home, like the treatment of women in Afghanistan ("Yak Sada") and the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II ("Dirty Laundry").
As with previous years, season four ends with some surprises. In this case, Matt and Mary make crucial decisions about their futures. Eric and Annie (Catherine Hicks) are particularly upset by Mary's choice, so much so that touchy-feely dad (briefly) becomes furious dad. Guest stars include Soul Food's Irma P. Hall ("All by Myself"), Moonlighting's Allyce Beasley ("Liar, Liar"), and 'N Sync's Lance Bass ("Who Do You Trust"). --Kathleen C. Fennessy

7TH HEAVEN?.......2007-08-24
THIS IS MOVIE IS GOOD FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY. IT HAS DO WITH EVERY DAY LIFE THAT EVERYONE GOES THROUGH
Unbelievably unbelievable.......2007-07-24
This show actually makes the Brady Bunch seem realistic.
The father somehow supports a bundle of children on the wages of a minister, while everyone else seem to do basically nothing to bring monetary stability to the household.
At least Mike Brady was an architect.
My wife quite rightly gets extremely annoyed if she ever sees clips or even five minutes of this show,as she works in an area where she helps people with real life problems.
To see the Camdens invite a friend over who has bulimia/anorexia and any other life threatening problem and defeat it with their love over a single weekend is an insult to anyone who has ever suffered such destructive diseases.
Should i go on,i dont think so as i find it stressful even thinking about this show, but to not say a few more words is irresponsible on my part.
What is most annoying of all is the fact that it is such a high rating show with a huge audience.
Please wake up America and any other country that is in love with this drivel.
It is fine with me if you do enjoy it,
however please remember that reality does not exist within this show,it is television, and in this case farther from reality than i would like to think that it should be,
it is irresponsible and much worse at times.
Too Worldy.......2007-05-28
I enjoy the show but, you cannot tell by looking at them that they are supposed to be christians, they look just like the world, and act just like the world, other than that it still beats the junk that is on TV today.
7th Heaven Season 4.......2007-05-25
Loved it and can't wait for the next one to come out.
Yes! 4th Season!!.......2007-05-24
LOVE this season! I watch the episodes over and over. Keep up the quick putting-out of the seasons, please hurry! I can't wait for 5th Season! I couldn't believe what Mary did though.......:)

Bad romantic comedies make you scoff at their absurdity; good ones make you wish your life was that absurd. Just Like Heaven is just smart and likable enough to trigger that wishing. David (Mark Ruffalo, Collateral, You Can Count On Me) finds an amazing apartment in San Francisco--only to discover it's haunted by the spirit of the previous tenant, an overachieving doctor named Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde, Election). There's something not quite right about Elizabeth's afterlife; against his better judgement, David agrees to help her investigate her life...but finds himself digging into his own as well. The plot takes a twist that some viewers will see coming, but Just Like Heaven doesn't rely on the surprise alone; the revelation takes the story in a new and just as entertaining direction. Witherspoon and Ruffalo are two of the best romantic leads around, but the surprise is how well their contrasting flavors (perky and moody, respectively) mesh, creating a sparky, engaging chemistry. Also featuring Dina Waters (Freaky Friday), Donal Logue (The Tao of Steve), Ben Shenkman (Angels in America), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). Crisply directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls), who carefully keeps the supernatural from getting silly and the romance from getting gooey. --Bret Fetzer

A Refreshing Romantic Comedy - FINALLY!.......2007-09-07
Just Like Heaven, starring the adorable Reece Witherspoon, is such a refreshing romantic comedy - free of so much of the cliche' "romcom" cheesiness found in many of those produced today.
I'll spare you the details of the movie as many other reviewers have already provided (more than) enough and just simply say: I LOVE IT! And I'm not even much of a "RomCom" kinda gal (see my other reviews to understand).
This is a chick flick, but guys will like it too (even if they won't admit it)! So....MAKE IT A (stay in and snuggle) DATE MOVIE! :)
AWESOME MOVIE.......2007-08-23
This movie is an all time favorite of mine. Its a romantic movie and its just wonderufl. I love it,
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES.......2007-08-09
I just loved this movie. Its about a girl who does`nt know what she is missing untill it is too late. When she meets the guy its fate. Only he can see her. He is the only one who can help her. I just loved this movie.
one for the girls.......2007-08-08
I loved this movie. It was just Reese being herself and who could ask for anything more. The movie shoes Marc Rafflo(sp) as this depressed man looking for the right apartment and all he asks is if the couch is right for him. you don't really know why he is depressed at first and I think that makes you wanting more. And he meets Reese and he is living in her apartment and she is trying to make him leave and well trust me, you need this movie in your collection A++++
Romance/adventure.......2007-07-03
Enjoyed this movie very much. The characters were believeable even though the story was not and they find each other in the end. A fun movie to
watch anytime.

Based on the bestseller by Mitch Albom (Tuesdays With Morrie), The Five People You Meet in Heaven takes up where It's A Wonderful Life left off. In the Capra classic, George Bailey gets a vision of life without him. In this Hallmark Hall of Fame production, Eddie (Jon Voight), an amusement park maintenance man and war veteran, ends up in Heaven after an accident takes his life. There he meets five people from his past: the Blue Man (Jeff Richards), the Captain (Michael Imperioli), Marguerite (Dagmara Dominczyk), Ruby (Ellen Burstyn), and Tala (Nicaela and Shelbie Weigel). Each shows him how he impacted their life or they his--and not always for the better. (In these flashbacks, Callahan Brebner and Steven Grayhm play the young Eddie.) The point may seem simplistic--everyone is connected--but The Five People You Meet in Heaven finds a unique and engaging way to make it. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

A Cinematic Achievement.......2007-09-12
Most movies these days are an appalling waste of time, and I never thought I would like one enough to review it or share my thoughts about it--until now. Far from being a treatise about death, it details the reexamination of life in a way that should comfort anyone facing his or a loved one's mortality.
Jon Voight, who never disappoints, is superbly understated in this thought-provoking, touching film. Sans the normal amount of gratuitous violence and offensive sexual content, this movie nevertheless conveys a love story as well as the journey of a man facing his flaws and failures while coming to terms with his role and purpose in life.
All of the performances are stellar, including that of the talented Jeff Daniels, whose initial appearance in blue skin and carnival garb render him nearly unrecognizable.
The greatest achievement of this film lies in successfully conveying imagery and concepts that are usually very difficult to depict in a screen adaptation.
I found the conclusion satisfying, wept tears of consolation for an hour after the movie ended, and contacted people who had recently lost loved ones to consider it a must-have. This is the way moviemaking could and should be.
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I'VE EVER WATCHED.......2007-09-12
This was a great movie, one of the best I've ever seen. Only after I read the book did I purchase the movie.
Having lost my sister, my grandmother and my mother, all in the span of a year, I felt compelled to read this book hoping to gain some insight as to whether I'd ever see them again in heaven. Of course, the book didn't answer that question, but seemed to give me a sense of calmness in dealing with the situation.
dvd.......2007-09-07
I wasn't satisfied with the ending of this movie.
Although I think Jon Voight did an excellent job of acting
Nice Movie.......2007-08-30
Its a good movie that teaches about life & death.
A good buy! But like most movies taken from the book, it can't beat the book.
The Five People You Meet in Heaven.......2007-08-12
Very good movie. Entertaining and thought provoking. There are not enough movies that do not contain trashy scenes and filthy language. Thank "Heaven" for Hallmark. I really enjoyed this movie.

Albert Brooks proves there's laughs after death with this almost heavenly comedy--almost heaven as in Judgment City, where recently perished Daniel Miller (Brooks) learns whether he is worthy of advancing to a higher plane of existence or will be sent back to earth for another incarnation.
His fate will be determined in a very special trial, during which scenes from his life are replayed on a giant screen. "Isn't it realistic?" a judge asks. "It makes some people nauseous." While the steely prosecutor (Lee Grant) will try to prove that Daniel failed in life to face his fears and insecurities, his glad-handing, reassuring defender (Rip Torn) will argue on behalf of this hapless "little brain" (a Judgment City term for residents of earth).
As Woody Allen did for the future in Sleeper, so does Brooks create an original vision of the afterlife. In Judgment City, white-robed residents can eat as much as they want without guilt or fear of gaining weight. They can also visit the Past Lives Pavilion, where they are greeted by a hologram of--who else--Shirley MacLaine.
Daniel finds himself touched by an angel. Meryl Streep gives an enchanting performance as Julia, whose exemplary life is in stark contrast to his. During her trial, the court watches in rapture as she saves not only children, but a cat from a burning building.
Daniel and Julia are a match made in Judgment City, but first Daniel must summon up the courage to express his true feelings for her, or she will surely advance without him.
Defending Your Life is Brooks's most ambitious film and, with Mother, his most accessible. --Donald Liebenson
Description

Customer Reviews:
Great movie........2007-09-16
This is a great movie. Not only is it funny, satirical, and romantic, but it also really made me think about my life, and how I can defend it! This movie is appropriate for audiences of all ages; I watched it with my boyfriend, my parents, and my younger brothers.
Yet Another Great Film from Albert Brooks.......2007-08-22
Albert Brooks may be compared to Woody Allen as film director/writer. But, I find that his style to be a little different. He is the smart talking guy who tries to show his strength with sarcasm and big talk. Yeah, we have heard this guy before. It's probably us in many situations but Brooks plays this exactly on the dot. Meryl Streep just sticks around for the ride since this is Brooks' act. Well, Streep is wonderful and makes acting seem effortless. The idea of Judgement City is just pure genius when you consider that everyone expects to go to heaven for just being a good samaritan. Brooks places this assumption upside with court like drama.
With this DVD, it's disappointing to just have the trailer. In this comedy, I expected outtakes and deleted scenes. Considering that this film was a sleeper, I guess it's not a surprise that Warner Brothers decided not to invest more into this film. Well, I am glad that other films like The Accidental Tourist gets the royal treatment from Warner Brothers.
A movie I watch every time it's on TV.......2007-07-17
I rarely watch movies I own on DVD, but if they come on TV, I'll watch it. This is one of those movies that every time it's on TV, I'll watch it.
I love the whole concept of the movie of moving on to a judgement period after you die, to decide to move on. Very original twist on the afterlife. Brooks is great as the somewhat hapless man who must defend his life's record. The real beauty of this movie is his time spent exploring Judgement City and his encounters with Meryl Streep. Brooks writing is very witty. I love the Hall of Previous lives where one can see what they were in previous lives. One of the best quotes is when Julia (Streep) asks Brooks what he was as they are each watching their own lives. Brooks previous life happens to be a native running from a lion. His answer is "Lunch."
The movie is full of wonderful dialogue, and clever little twists. There is a reason I watch it every time it's on. It's just fun and heartwarming.
DEFENDING ALBERT BROOKS.......2007-07-01
This is Mr. Brooks at his side-splittingest and most sardonic as he prepares to enter the afterlife and must defend the decisions he made in life. This film is clever on all levels. Casting Meryl Streep as someone who has nothing to defend was a stroke of genius. Watch for Shirley MacLaine in a howlingly funny cameo. I have watched this again and again to make up for all the people who didn't see it in the theaters. I have given it as a gift many, many times to people who have never heard of it. I hate to use the term "feel-good" as it is overworked with regard to film, but when this one ends, I'm happy that I watched it.
A Pleasant Comedy.......2007-06-27
I agree with most of what good things everyone says about this movie - I saw it in the theatre when it came out and bought it on DVD, although I'm a tad disappointed there aren't any extras on the DVD. Albert Brooks has always made me laugh but it's nice to see Meryl Streep possibly enjoying a film role for once - it seems like a good pairing of two cerebral actors - you may laff when you hear Brooks' name and the word cerebral in the same sentence but his movies have always made me think he has a good insight into the human psyche. The middle of the film where Lee Grant shows his various mistakes is hilarious and make you think that Brooks' character is just outside of being passed on to Heaven, until the last part of the movie - Rip Torn is his usual funny self, and his ambiguity and vagueness comes off as funny.
