5 out of 5 stars Will Be A Cult Classic!!!!.......2007-08-10

Hello World,
I seen twisted sisters and chambermaid which star alot of the same cast, same director etc and are really great as well. Then I searched this gem out. Unbelieveable story and cast which reminds me of works by David Lynch and Peter Jackson. This film jumps around but always centers on the ever amazingly beautiful Fiona Horsey who is one hell of an actress I cant wait to see more from her. Really entertaining film, funny, gorey, sexy, suspenseful it has all the elements of a cult classic. Buy it rent it just check it out and I garantee you will not be dissapointed.

1 out of 5 stars I quote Dr. Smith from the TV show 'Lost in Space'..."Oh, the pain, the pain!".......2005-07-26

On the DVD case for National Lampoon's Movie Madness (1983) aka National Lampoon Goes to the Movies it states `The Film That Hollywood Doesn't Want You To See.'...and after watching it last night, I understood why...because it was truly awful...89 minutes of pure, cinematic Hell, following on the heels of their first, and most successful, film, Animal House (1978)...talk about the sophomore jinx. The film is made of a trio of stories, and features two directors, one in Bob Giraldi, whose main body of work following this film consists of Pat Benatar music videos, and Henry Jaglom (Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?). The cast features a whole bum load of actors I doubt would count this film among the highlights of their careers including Peter Riegert (Animal House), Candy Clark (American Graffiti), Diane Lane (Streets of Fire), Teresa Ganzel (The Toy), Ann Dusenberry (Jaws 2), Robert Culp ("The Greatest American Hero"), Joe Spinell (Losin' It), Fred Willard (Best in Show), Olympia Dukakis (Mr. Holland's Opus), Mary Woronov (Motorama), Dick Miller (Demon Knight), Elisha Cook Jr. (Salem's Lot), Henny Youngman (Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood), Julie Kavner (Radio Days), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Robby Benson (MXP: Most Xtreme Primate), and legendary actor Richard Widmark (Panic in the Streets, Warlock), whom I have a lot of respect for, and still do, but I couldn't help feel a little of it may have died last night...

As I mentioned earlier, the film is comprised of three parts, all supposedly spoofs on popular films or genres at the time. The first bit is titled `Growing Yourself', and features Peter Riegert as corporate lawyer who chucks his wife (Clark) out on the street, and then quits his job in order to `find' himself. In the process of doing so he opens a plant orphanage, dates a 14 year old model (Lane), loses a couple of his kids (I mean they actually wander off, never to be seen again), and so on...the only worthwhile aspect of this piece is when bosomy blonde Teresa Ganzel pops her top...the second bit is titled `Success Wanters' and features Ann Dusenberry as recent college graduate Dominique Corsaire, struggling to get a job, finally accepting a position as a stripper. After being victimized during a national butter council convention (she got butter banged), Dominique vows revenge, and does so by climbing the corporate ladder of a margarine company (eventually becoming president and CEO and crushing the butter industry), marries a wealthy Greek tycoon, and then becomes involved with the president of the United States (Willard), attaining the status of the most powerful woman in the world...all in the course of three days...this is intended to be a spoof of those films where a woman is wronged somehow, and carefully plots her revenge by spending years climbing and clawing her way to the top, strategically using , and then destroying those who done her wrong...the only worthy aspect of this piece is the numerous scenes of nekkidness featuring Ms. Dusenberry. The third and final bit is titled `Municipalians' and features Benson as an idealistic, naive rookie cop named Brent Falcone, partnered with the jaded, crusty veteran Stan Nagurski, played by Widmark, and tries to spoof the film The New Centurions (1972). While trying to track down a psycho killer (Lloyd), the rough and unforgiving streets transform Falcone into a hard and uncaring figure, much like his partner...there are no worthy aspects of this last piece, at least in the form of any nekkidness...

It's pretty rare I give out one or five star ratings as I like to reserve those for items truly deserving, and this is definitely one of those situations as this has to be one of the worst films I've seen in a long time, coupled with the fact that whoever was responsible for this dreck wasted a really strong cast of actors (with, perhaps, the exception being Robbie Benson, whom I've never really cared much for). That, in and of itself, is something I find offensive in the wasting of talent that could have been somewhere else, doing something much, much better. I was astounded that an organization like the National Lampoon, which prided itself on its ability to distill usually tasteless humor with regards to pop culture and politics in general, could spew forth something so awful in the wake of what would be its greatest achievement to date in that of Animal House. Seriously, the so-called comedy here is truly abysmal. There was a sense that the writers were trying to be smartly clever, cerebral and topical, but then this was contradicted by various scenes of nekkidness as if to say, `Look, we're smart, but we've haven't lost our sense of tackiness'. Universal Studios, sensing how truly awful the film was, actually shelved the film here in the states. It did get released in the UK (hey, it's not good enough for us, but those limeys will eat it up), possibly in an insidious effort to undermine American/British relations. You know, I can sit through almost any cinematic stink bomb and, at the very least, entertain myself with the sheer audaciousness of the levels of awfulness displayed, but here I just couldn't wait for the movie to end...are there worse things than an unfunny comedy? Sure, I suppose (being drawn and quartered seems like something I'd not want to have done to me) but really, there wasn't anything even mildly humorous about this movie...it stunk, it stunk on ice...

The picture on this DVD, provided both in widescreen (1.85:1), enhanced for 16 X 9 TVs, along with the pan and scan fullscreen format, looks clean and clear, and I had no complaints. The mono audio provided for the film wasn't as good, as some of the audio, specifically the dialog, felt very soft, compared to the musical score which came through much louder. The only extra on this DVD is an original theatrical trailer. You see, now this is a film where one might want to hear a commentary track only to learn what someone was thinking when they made the film...but that would mean having to watch the film for a second time, and once was more than enough for me...

3 out of 5 stars Leonard Maltin is wrong!.......1999-06-09

What is wrong with him? The movie's not that bad. The last segment, Municipalians, is confusing sometimes, but it's also pretty funny. Fred Willard, Robby Benson, Robert Culp, and Barry Diamond are all awesome!! Besides, you get to see Ann Dusenberry naked, and that's almost worth the price right there. The first two segments are very good. Any fan of the National Lampoon should enjoy this.

This is a good dvd which features 3 different story lines with some of the Best Japanese Actresses out there. The stories are entertaining and you don't really have to understand Japanese to understand what is going on in each of them. This is a sign of a good director. All three stories differ in characters and themes but there is one which contains Kei Mizutani called "TWO WOMEN NAMED MARIKO". So if you are a fan of Kei you can get it just for her but you won't be disappointed with the other stories.

1 out of 5 stars Tokyo Decameron: Three Tails of Madness & Sensuality.......2002-12-19

This movie had an excellant chance to display it's female cast in all their Asian wonders. Some of the more interesting moments in this movie are down played by a lack of a correct camera angle or plot development. The "Rose Holder" is one that could have been something more than it was. Yet you see nothing that would make you believe that it was erotic. I love Asian movies but this one is not one to be added to anyone's collection.

4 out of 5 stars Surprising But Unsettling.......2002-01-12

This film is, firstly, very well done. However, you should be forewarned that there is an uncomfortable level of brutality portrayed. While the physical portrayals of the violence and/or promiscuity are less graphic than I have seen in "R" rated films, it is the mental and emotional subjugaton, along with abuse, that is unsettling. What makes this especially unnerving is the productions refusal to take sides in what is being portrayed. The characters are neither right or wrong in their behavior.
This is why I rated it four stars. While I rather doubt it was the intention of the producers, this film forced me to look at things in a way I hadn't before. A prime example of this is from the first part of "Decamaron" in which a woman who's very attracted to a man (who's very attrached to her) tells him that if he loves her he will continue with a savage beating she receiving at the hands of another. There is a terrible prolonged moment as this guy teeters between giving the woman he loves what she wants and savagely whipping the woman he loves with a riding crop.
The entire tenure of this film runs along these lines. There is some fascinating camera work with light to add more of a depth than might otherwise be there. Just be ready, this is not like some late sixties/early seventies Marquis de Sade knock off, this is an assualt

Product Description

"In the 30s, sexually transmitted diseases were rampant among people in America. One in every 10 persons was affected with syphilis. Yet there was little awareness about the ravages of the disease. Medical science too, was inadequately equipped to test and treat the disease. Under these circumstances, prevention seemed to be the best cure. This film was made with a mission to educate youth about the dangers of pre-marital sex and the crippling effects of the dreaded diseases they could contract from their sexual partners. The story of a young man and a girl who became victims of the disease and the drastic effect the disease had on the whole family is told in a moving manner."

5 out of 5 stars Nice.......2006-05-06

I gave this to my brother after he started dating his skanky girlfriend to make sure he protects himself.

I made him watch it so that he realizes what kind of trash is out there and how dangerous bad girls can be.

I hope that he thinks long and hard about the consequences of his actions.

The movie is very well done and would scare anyone into playing safe.

5 out of 5 stars Common Sense.......2006-05-05

What do you expect to have happen if you sleep around? Of course you will get sick and perhaps make yourself a parent before you expect it.

These films are common sense and it's sad that even today people don't realize they should keep it in their pants.

These motion pictures tell you exactly why you need to wait until marriage and respect your body.

They are as true today as they were 50 years ago.

5 out of 5 stars Wow is this scary!!!.......2006-04-27

In the modern age when you think about unsafe sex you think about AIDS which is a fairly modern phenomenon.

Then you see this disk and realize that sex has been killing people for years. OMG! This is one scary movie that does its best to make people not want to have any kind of sex before marriage.

It documents in more detail than you would expect exactly what can happen if you get syphalis or the clap and in the days before antibiotics this was not a pretty site.

Scary. Scary. Scary. Scary.

Did I mention that it's scary!

For those of you who don't like the fact that low budget filmmakers
resort to obvious low-budget special effects, be advised that director
Aiden Dillard got the idea for this film from his wish to create a
moving image of a papier mache cow, which is indeed one of the most
important scenes in the opening of the film. No cheap effects caused by
a lack of budget, but made intentionally the way they look. How I would
love to see Aiden Dillard making a film on a huge budget, he would
probably hand in the film under budget, like that other maestro Mario
Bava. No need to spend huge amounts of money if a fantastic imagination
is at hand! The rest of this film is just as imaginative, one of the
most original films from the last few years for those who (like me) get
sick of the ridiculously expensive but ever-so-uninteresting so-called
entertainment that Hollywood keeps vomiting out over us. It is
impossible to explain in a few lines what is going on in MEAT WEED
MADNESS, but if you are even remotely interested in film-making that is
a bit different you cannot afford not to buy this one. The DVD is also
loaded with extra's, amongst which is one of the most entertaining
audio-commentaries I have heard in a long time.

5 out of 5 stars The craziest movie in the world!.......2006-04-27

I've seen a lot of erotic horror comedy movies in my day and this one takes the cake. This Aiden Dillard guy who directed the movie must have been smoking a lot of meatweed when he wrote the script. I haven't seen such an amazing piece of trash filmmaking since Pink Flamingos. The nude scenes in this movie are worth the price alone. I'm not talking about normal nude scenes. The female stars of this movie are rarely dressed and when they are covered they're covered in blood. This movie makes me sick. I'm choking back the vomit right now. I loved it.

"Style is the answer to everything," intones skid row poet Charles Serking, played by the suitably grizzled and worn Ben Gazarra, to his somnambulistic audience. Serking is, of course, a not-at-all veiled stand-in for beat legend Charles Bukowksi, whose autobiographical short stories were the basis for this film. But Serking, in many ways, comes off more like a gin-soaked fantasy of a skid row Hemingway whose sports of choice are alcohol, women, and sex. Behind the salt-and-pepper beard and rummy eyes lies an actor too poised to allow himself to fully sink into the alcoholic sloppiness that Mickey Rourke so easily brought to the screen in the less pretentious and more concise Barfly, which Bukowski himself scripted. But if Italian-born director Marco Ferreri stumbles over the self-conscious dialogue, he's right at home capturing the seedy atmosphere of dim, run-down apartments and underlit bars in the real Hollywood Serking calls home. When Serking's fling with the stunning, self-mutilating Italian hooker Cass (Ornella Muti, who puts her oversized safety pin to some rather startling uses) becomes too emotional, he takes the anonymous safety of the streets--crashing in a flophouse, passing around a bottle with a listless knot of derelicts. Serking melds right in with the littered streets and lost souls, a real man of the people. Suddenly you see it: he's got style. --Sean Axmaker

Description

Charles Serking, loosely based on the infamous poet Charles Bukowski, rejects a conventional lifestyle to journey through the underbelly of Los Angeles in "Tales of Ordinary Madness." He indulges an insatiable appetite for sex and booze in what the Hollywood Reporter calls "a cinematic walk on the wild side." Directed by Marco Ferreri, this 1981 film won four Italian Academy Awards and the San Sebastian Film Festival Grand Prize. Compelling, sometimes shocking, and explicit.

5 out of 5 stars Must we - dear friends - die in our sleep ?.......2006-12-26

Marco Ferreri made a devastatingly lyrical, sinister and cruel portrait about the existence of Charles Bukowski, the poet of hopeless, the excesses, the alcohol; the legitimate sex' sybarite into a crude environment of loneliness and disillusion. Ben Gazzara is fabulous in this role as well the divine: Ornella Muti as Cass.

The final sequence in the beach embracing an unknown young girl in a visible childish attitude, dedicating her a free poetry is still haunting even the years, becoming a classic.

The poetry is a God that it doesn't go in the body; and that's why it scatter outside from it, and assumes multiple aspects.

`Some people never go crazy, what truly horrible lives they must live'-Charles Bukowski

To understand Bukowski, one cannot separate his life from his writings, you must understand that they both depended on each other and created an insane, incestuous bond that drove his writings to such an incredible level of contained madness. Ferreri understands that, a poet of the excesses of human nature, just as Bukowski was the poet of his own excesses, he is the gutter anarchistic artist, the People's symbolist, whose films are ventures into the darkest parts of man's existence (and eventual self-destruction). His films all have a single theme: man's inability to make the world in harmony with his desires. Bukowski's eternal theme was to live with art, and he argued that banality was the most depressing thing that could happen to someone. In `Tales Of Ordinary Madness' Ferreri does not make a film in the conventional sense but a drunken poem in the form of a film, a venture into complete insanity. Something happens in a Ferreri film, something a little uncertain and inexplicable but ultimately moving, just as something happens in Bukowski's writings, which carry the whole universe with them in unpretentious attempts to describe futile things, the words break through the page, and suddenly art is there, an insane god-like feeling of immortality is present and nothing else matters, it is with the power of a genius that Bukowski can contain nirvana with such simplicity, such straight-forwardness. Just as Ferreri can make important philosophical statements in such un-stylized context. `Tales Of Ordinary Madness' is a masterpiece and the greatest film about the actual process of art ever made because it does not separate the art from the reality, in fact, it unites them, and argues that one depends on the other. Bukowski could not have written what he has written if he had not lived what he had lived, Ferreri understands that true art is born out of despair, demystified and separated of all its futile banalities. When the character inspired by Bukowski, in one of the film's most moving passages, is recruited by an organization to write for them and more or less sentenced to bourgeois acceptance if he settles into the conformity that they offer him, he declines, gets drunk and throws beer bottles at them, forever the anarchist, that scene alone is perhaps the greatest comment anyone has ever made on Bukowski. The film ends, tragically and hauntingly, in an act of utter desperation and eventual rebirth and Ferreri once again uses the sea as a metaphor for man's ultimate destiny, ending so quietly on that deserted beach, dirtied by the universe and carried away to die, forever alone but not dead, not yet, and not forgotten.

I just first saw 'Tales Of Ordinary Madness' yesterday. I like this film. At times living through the eyes of Charlie seems gluemy and useless, but I'm constantly fascinated and wondering the outcome. I only brought this film because I'm a hugh fan and LOVE Ornella Muti, but I'm glad I've had the chance to see this film. I recommend this film. And not just because Ornella is in it.Although it does't hurt because Ornella is really good in this film. Ornella is just beautiful as always but her acting always leaves me wanting/craving for more. If your a Ornella Muti fan this should definitely be in your collection. But other than that this film is fascinating but if you havn't seen this film don't expect a uplifting, happy film. This film may not be for every one.

This movie works only if you let your imagination sulk to the very Id of one's being. This is not commonplace material and is only for a limited audience. One needs to understand that madness is more norm than exception, and the beautiful almost lost art of self destruction is just below the surface of many of us.

"Tales..." actually makes Bukowski sympathetic as he tries to find love and sex in the L.A. underground. His harrowing adventures are interesting because he brings them all on himself. Some of the scenes get too dark and go too long, but Gazzara is great. "Barfly" was tedious and dull, this is much better.

    Description

"Down through the ages has rushed a menace more dangerous than the worst criminal. SYPHILIS. Let us seize this monster and stamp out forever its horrible influence. Syphilis must no longer play its deadly part in our lives preventing marriages... breaking up families... and resulting in innocent offspring born blind, diseased and maimed... doomed to a life of misery. The subject of syphilis must no longer remain hushed, but must be fought in the open like any other dangerous contagious disease... humanity must be enlightened! Ignorance must be abolished! Young and old... rich and poor... They must be told!" -- On Screen PrefaceA progressive and positive propaganda film of the first half of the last century, Sex Madness (also known as They Must Be Told and Human Wreckage) earnestly chronicles the downfall of an innocent girl-next-door whose single night of passionate pleasure has disasterous consequences for her and her loved ones as she contracts the dreaded scourge - syphilis. With a strong message that ignorance is the only thing to be ashamed of and that youth must be educated in order to evolve into sexually responsible adults, Sex Madness stands beside it's better-known sister film, Reefer Madness, in depicting the dire consequences of debauchery and self-indulgence.Includes two bonus features: Hygiene For Men (1964) and Hygiene For Women (1969).

2 out of 5 stars Meet Wendell, the world's biggest loser...... ever.......2005-12-16

If you're like me, you got hooked onto these 1930's government exploitation movies after watching `Reefer Madness'. Well none of them are as good and Sex Madness is pretty bad. It's even worse than `Assassin of Youth' which although pretty forgettable, has its moments. In Reefer Madness it is the `Demon Weed' marihuana that destroys the mind, body, and soul. In Sex Madness the killer is the dreaded Syphilis. Like the other films, Sex Madness starts out with a reeling, choppily moving paragraph that warns the viewer of this deadly `social disease'.

The camera work on this flick is by far the worst you'll ever see. Some of it is looked like it was actually filmed by a Disney World tourist with a handheld camcorder. That and it has some extremely cut scenes where it looks like whole parts were removed, in mid dialog!

Sex Madness has two stories that loosely fit together, but never really entwine. Millicent, a young beauty contest winner, goes to New York in search of `fame and fortune', and a son of a doctor attends a wild party.

Millicent contracts syphilis while attending a party trying to get contacts to enhance and further her career. To make matters worse she has a boyfriend back home named, now get this, Wendell. This guy is a complete loser and is the only real joy in watching the movie. He never gets mad, he never gets upset, and is totally committed to Millicent. More about him later.

The young playboy attends an orgy after a night out with the boys at a burlesque show. Just to let the viewer know, it is the lamest show I've ever scene. A bunch of women dancing with what appears to be black cardboard dumbbells. There is a pervert who watches the show and he rapes a girl afterward too. Well the playboy gets syphilis, and after seeing and paying several quacks, he finally seeks help from his father. It just so happens that his father is trying to fight syphilis through education and his son does a little speech about how he screwed up.

Millicent meanwhile is lead through a hospital to see late stage syphilis victims. One woman who's face you never see has lesions on her legs and hands. They looked more like paint chips to me, and her fingernails were made to look especially gory. There is a quick segment where they show some psycho sick dude with a cane who is all screwed up, again syphilis.

Well poor Millicent doesn't listen to her doctor and ends up with a quack who promises a quick cure. She infects her new husband Wendell and gives birth to a sick syphilis child. The baby gets close to death and Wendell is going blind before Millicent finally admits to having syphilis. Does Wendell get mad? Oh no, not Wendell. His girlfriend went to New York, got syphilis, infected him and his baby, and is soon on his deathbed. But he tells Millicent that his only thought is her happiness. This guy is just unreal. You could chop off both his hands, cut off his leg and beat him with it, and he'll tell you that you're his best friend.

Millicent is about to put her entire family out of misery with poison, but at the last minute gets a phone call from an old New York girlfriend (who also has syphilis). She explains to her that she'll be cured in 12 months and that she is getting married. Millicent is so happy about the news, that the final scene is her throwing herself onto the chest of her dying husband exclaiming "Everything is going to be all right!"
