Product Description

When danger looms in Townsville, the call goes out for Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup - The Powerpuff Girls! Under the watchful eye of their mentor Professor Utonium, the girls fly into action against a colorful gallery of nefarious villains -- saving the day before bedtime! Created by cartoonist Craig McCracken, the series began life as one of Cartoon Network's World Premiere Toons. A chance meeting gives Mojo Jojo, Him, Fuzzy Lumpkins and Princess the idea to team up to defeat The Powerpuff Girls. Together, they create the world's first criminal supergroup, the Beat-Alls, unleashing an eight-days-a-week wave of crime and mayhem in Townsville. The combined power of the Bad Four creates hard days and nights for Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, who find defeating the Beat Alls to be a long and winding road. Only by enlisting the help of Moko Jojo, a mysterious "performance criminal," are the Powerpuff Girls able to curtail the Brutish Invasion. DVD. Recorded in USA. Playtime 80 minutes.

Townsville's cutest cops curb a brutish invasion by a new breed of mop tops in Meet the Beat-Alls, a Powerpuff caper so packed with sly Beatles references it could sink a yellow submarine. Forget the under-15-minute running time--here, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom face the longest and windingest road of their crime-fighting careers, as Mojo Jojo, Him, Princess, and Fuzzy Lumpkins band together to become the Beat-Alls--the Bad Four--a collective that soars to the pole position on the most-wanted charts, sending girls screaming. When the police cry out for help--they need somebody--the girls gather their gumption and go forward with a plan to break up the Beat-Alls: They enlist Moko, a white-costumed monkey with seductive Asian flair, to pose as a performance criminal. Fellow simian Mojo Jojo, who thought he was a loner, goes bananas; soon the other Beat-Alls beat it and the girls bust in and break the news that Mojo's going nowhere, man. All that spoofing doesn't sap the Powerpuffs of their superheroine steam: In "Bought & Scold" they square off against Princess, whose daddy throws down the cash to crown her mayor; in "Bubblevision" they're a sight for sore eyes, even though one of them looks dorky in her new glasses, as a giant ant rips through town; "Jewel of the Aisle" finds them firing away at a gem thief posing as cereal hero Lucky Captain Rabbit King; and demented lout Lenny's plan to possess the Powerpuffs comes crashing down in "Collect Her." If you're old enough to get the gags, allow the title episode to edge out other potential Powerpuff purchases, it's that clever. Otherwise, whatever propels you, rest assured that not one of these episodes will let you down or leave you flat. For children ages 7 and up. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Meet the Beat-Alls.......2007-08-26

I have to admit that I have always had a soft spot for the Powerpuff Girls. I find the frequently tongue-in-cheek humour to be very witty and like most good cartoons are, this one is thoroughly entertaining for both kids and adults alike. My favourite Cartoon Network character is actually Dexter's Lab but until they release that on DVD I guess this will have to do as second best. This DVD has been very well thought out and designed and contains good bonus features as well as 10 great episodes. "Meet the Beat-alls" has got to be the best Powerpuff Girls episode ever. The spoof on the Beatles is extremely hilarious and is a real treat for Beatles fans as well. Highly recommended for a good laugh!

This has got to be the WORST of the PPG DVDs I've seen yet! Nothing original, nothing new, and just plain boring. Why does everybody like this trash? All they do is use other songs from an old British band from the 60s and it's not "Beat-Alls" it's Beatles! They'd probably be rolling in their graves if they knew about this! It's NOT one bit funny whatsoever! I don't know what Craig was smoking when he made this and I really don't want to know.

4 out of 5 stars Somewhat solid collection of PPG episodes.......2002-09-20

Fortunately, "Meet The Beat Alls" is one of the few shining moments. When Mojo, Princess, Fuzzy Lumpkins, and Him realize that the four together can defeat the Powerpuff Girls, they team up to become the Beat Alls. Be it album covers, song titles, or that one person blamed for breaking up the Fabs, there are more Beatles references than one can throw a power punch at. I found forty-five. (Rating: 5)

"Bought And Scold" has Princess Morebucks having her father buy her Townsville. Once becoming mayor, the Princess makes crime legal, to the chagrin of the Powerpuff Girls, who become unemployed, so to speak. Quick, what's that saying, "hoist by her own petard"? Or is it she who lives by the decree... whatever. (Rating: 4)

"Bubblevision" has Bubbles having eye trouble and having to wear glasses. Unfortunately, Blossom and Buttercup laugh and make fun of her. Crimony, stop picking on Bubbles, girls! Pop culture reference: giant ants and the Blondie song "Attack Of The Giant Ants." (Rating: 5)

Inbetween are a few goodies, such as a brief clip of Mojo on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, the Apples of Stereo video of "Signal In The Sky," featuring the Fish Balloon from "Uh Oh Dynamo," and a brief look at the making of the Powerpuff Girls movie with creator Craig McCracken and the talented ladies who do the Powerpuff voices. Cavadini, Strong, and Daily, keep it up! (Rating: 4)

"Jewel Of The Aisle" involves a thief who steals a jewel which he accidentally drops in a factory manufacturing Lucky Cap'n Rabbit King Nuggets, which are a cross between Trix and Captain Crunch. Guess who buys the cereal? There's an obvious reference to the Trix rabbit and the thief's failed attempts to get it is reminiscent of Warner Brothers cartoons. (Rating: 3.5)

"Collect Her" is an unpleasant piece of work about Lenny, an obsessed Powerpuff Girls memorabilia collector who discovers to his horror that his collection is--(gasp!) complete. What else is there to collect? I say unpleasant because of what some fan obsessions can lead to: can anyone say John Lennon or Rebecca Schaeffer? (Rating: 2)

The Time Squad bonus cartoon involves going back in time to help out Lincoln, who, fed up with being dubbed Honest Abe, becomes a jerk bent on playing practical jokes on people. Including these other cartoons is reminiscent of the B-feature after the A-picture done back in the 1930's. (Rating: 3)

Before swinging London and the rock & roll explosion took over English youths, Britain's first teen rebel didn't have much of a cause but plenty of attitude. Pouty art-school student Jennifer (teen sex kitten Gillian Hills, looking very much a British Bardot) is the Beat Girl of the title, an alienated teenager who hangs out in coffee shops and underground clubs with beatniks and teddy boys. When her self-absorbed father returns home with a sexy French bride, the picture warps into lurid melodrama as Jennifer tracks a suspicion about her stepmom to a sleazy strip club managed by an even sleazier Christopher Lee, whose salacious desires she realizes too late. Director Edmond T. Greville, a craftsman of the old school, brings an unexpected, edgy grit to the low-budget picture, injecting the callow clichés of lost youth with a nervous energy and a genuine sense of desperation. John Barry's growling score gives the film a rumbling undercurrent, and the cheap, claustrophobic sets (often hiding in darkness) only enhance the sleazy atmosphere. The mix of teenage desperation, rock & roll music, and lurid sensationalism (complete with teasing nudity in the strip club) creates a strange hybrid: a teen exploitation film with a film noir soul. Costar Adam Faith sings a couple of songs and Oliver Reed appears in a few scenes as a drugged-up, funked-out teddy boy. --Sean Axmaker

4 out of 5 stars BEAT GIRL BAD GIRL IS GOOD GIRL........2007-01-04

Tremendous fun. Tries to say that the Kids growing up in England after WWII all went off the rails but oh my how innocent it all was and it all works out that Mummy and Daddy know best!!!!!!!!! Noelle Adam plays a Frenchwoman who may have had a shady past before she marries the Rich Daddy of :BEAT GIRL: JENNIFER{A dead ringer for the 1950,s version of Brigitte Bardot} Jennifer hangs in the Beat clubs with her friends played by many of Englands VERY young and up and coming young stars. Sally Ann Field, Oliver Reed and Peter Mc Enery, Best known in the US for giving Haley Mills her first screen kiss in Disneys "THE MOONSPINNERS. Was Daddys new wife a stripper? And can I be one too. And just what does the Owner of the strip club { CHRISTOPHER LEE} have on his mind? He obviously likes biting necks even without fangs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    4 out of 5 stars Strip Like a Frenchie.......2006-05-31

Five stars if the DVD were put right.

This is the first DVD I've ever seen that is clearly an expurgated TV version. Not only are there the scenes missing, as mentioned in other reviews here, there is even a curse word blanked out near the end. Urg. And no one seems to have mentioned that the film is presented full-screen when it is clearly not that originally (since the credits are presented in something like 1:1.66 aspect ratio). Don't believe Amazon when they say it is widescreen.

And who would care except that this is a delightfully awful youth movie, perhaps the best ever made. It deserves the Criterion treatment. It is every bit as memorable as Band of Outsiders. And the musical sequences aren't any goofier than Pierrot le Fou.

In fact the musical number It's Legal is wonderfully silly. And I would like to correct another review here. The woman doing the lip syncing, Shirley Ann Field, was no more than twenty-two at the time, not at least thirty. Shirley appeared in significant roles in two truly great movies the same year she made BG, Saturday Night Sunday Morning, and The Entertainer. But in this movie she gets to bravely deliver most of the hilarious beat slang. And "Strip like a Frenchie!".

I would also point out that Oliver Reed cannot possibly be mistaken for a Ted in that flannel shirt. Half way to Grunge styles, if anything.

The film is a great antidote to all that nonsense about the same era that was made later, like American Graffiti and Grease, awful stuff that. Where were you in '62? Well, as Adam Faith says in the closing line of Beat Girl, "Only squares know where to go." Half way to Punk sensibilities, if anything.

4 out of 5 stars Beat Girl - my thoughts.......2004-11-02

It was great to see this film becoming available again on DVD. The movie is a classic featuring a British perspective on the beat era with lots of cheesy "hep" talk and is a real must for collectors of 1960's British black & white classic's. The one issue I have with the movie is that the DVD re-issue is missing the amazingly erotic strip scene from the original cinema release- a bit of a disappointment really. If however you have not seen the original movie then enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars TO STRIP OR NOT TO STRIP............2004-04-26

Lurid, low budget British exploitation JD flick about Jennifer (pouty Gillian Hills) a teen-age "beat girl" who is waiting to go completely wild. She's already sneaking out at night to join her beat friends much to the chagrin of her "square" archtitect father. But when Daddy brings home a much younger French wife named Nicole (Noelle Adam), Jennifer bristles like a porcupine. There's a strip club called Les Girls across the street from the Beat Club where Jenny's gang hangs out and it isn't long before she finds out that stepmom Nicole used to do something sleazy back in Paris. She gleans this information from a burned out stripper at Les Girls who used to "work" with Nicole. And it isn't long before Jenny wanders in to Les Girls and draws the attention of the sleazy owner (Christopher Lee, who's properly oily). Nicole frantically tries to prevent Jenny's father from finding out about her past and also to keep Jenny out of Lee's clutches. But, as plot lines go, things get out of hand. "Beat Girl" offers much in the way of cheesy entertainment. There's blaring music, a "chicken" drag race, cheap girls, lousy "rock-a-billy" songs, a wretched, obviously lip-synched number called "It's Legal" performed by pretty Shirley Anne Field ("Horrors of the Black Museum" and "Peeping Tom") who's one of the gang, some teasy strippers and an awful performance by French actress Noelle Adam who is obviously struggling with her English. Some familiar faces like Adam Faith and a young Oliver Reed as a beat guy called "Green Shirt" are here as well. Faith plays Jenny's wanna be boyfriend and he's responsible for the rock-a-billy numbers done ala Elvis. Frankly, you couldn't ask for a cheesier movie even though the film jumps in spots as though it were cut or censored. The print is pretty scratched up, too, but it's watchable. But I really liked Bardot look-a-like Hills as Jenny. She was perfectly snooty, catty and irritating to the point you couldn't wait to see her come to a bad end. If you're patient with the flaws, "Beat Girl" is a lot of trashy fun in the JD genre. As Jenny says, "Dig this and dig it real...". Enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Aussie Amazon Customer.......2004-04-01

It's a great film sure enough, but a terrible DVD. The print looks as though it was retrieved from a trash can and there are 12 important mintues missing. There is some important dialogue missing from the first scene with Christopher Lee. Next, the stripper scene is missing altogether. Then the ending is all but obliterated. Not good at all and detracts from the overall story.
