Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) made his first English-language film with this 1984 fantasy about a boy (Barret Oliver) visualizing the stories of a book he's reading. The imagined tale involves another boy, a warrior (Noah Hathaway), and his efforts to save the empire of Fantasia from a nemesis called the Nothing. Whether or not the scenario sticks in the memory, what does linger are the unique effects, which are not quite like anything else. Plenty of good fairy-tale characters and memorable scenes, and the film even encourages kids to read. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Imaginative story that keeps our child's interest.......2007-08-25
This movie is great for kids who have no problem with imagination and who like to READ. Our four-year old can get bored with some movies since they are not as good as a book (his words!) but this movie keeps his attention just fine. It does have some rather scary parts in it but nothing graphic or poor language and as long as you are watching TOGETHER and explain what is happening, there should be no problem with fright or nightmares. We bought the three-part movie series to our delight.
Neverending Enjoyment.......2007-08-24
The Neverending Story has been a perfect childhood movie since it's induction into the greatest kids' movies of all time. I've watched this movie growing up and continue to share it with the younger friends and family.
Love this movie, but where's the special treatment.......2007-08-17
This was a seminal movie for me in my childhood (along with The Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Goonies and others) and I love it to this day. The only thing I'm disgrunteled about is it's poor treatment on DVD. I want a special edition: with a making of documentary highlighting the whole process from the actual book to the script, character sketches and concepts, set design, creature design and building, and all the goodies real film enthusiasts love to watch. And interviews! I mean, even if there is no older footage of the process of making the film can't the people responsible put something together to honor this film. Atleast a director's commentary or something. I love this film and I will continue to watch it from time to time...I just wish that the DVD editions had just a lil' bit extra for all the fans and enthusiasts of this wonderful fantasy.
Great movie.......2007-07-28
Great movie, one that you can watch over and over for many years. But if you want the full experience, you should read the book by Micheal Ende.
They don't make movies like this anymore...........2007-07-06
Remember that moment at the end of Wizard of Oz when the Good Witch tells Dorothy she's had the power to go home all along? Remember the collective "What the (BLEEP)..." from everyone watching, regardless of their age?
I had a very similar reaction when I reached the end of this movie.
That's not to say I was disappointed. Quite the contrary. It was like a slap in the face of "why didn't I think of that?" Often times the best endings are so obvious you overlook them and this movie is a testament to that fact.
That having been said it's also one of the best fantasy rides you'll ever take in 2 hours. A turtle whose shell is an island. A talking wolf. A luck dragon. Two sets of sphinx like characters, both offering riddles. A horse whose own sadness nearly is is undoing... oh and a rock biter.
These are just a few of the fanciful elements that make this very under-celebrated movie worth high praise!
If you saw it as a child and you now have children, show it to your children. Make it something you share for generations. You'll be glad you did.
They don't make movies like this any more. The more we can teach our children to have imaginations, the more likely they are to dream big dreams... and the more likely they are to turn those dreams into reality.

This film actually began with the idea of remaking A Star Is Born with the then-hot couple James Taylor and Carly Simon. Eventually, it evolved into this vanity production for Barbra Streisand, with Kris Kristofferson as the designated stud muffin. The story remains the same: A superstar on the decline meets a young singer on the way up. They marry as their career trajectories intersect, and his eventual demise is meant as a sacrifice to further boost her career by ridding her of the burden of him. Kristofferson's rock & roll numbers are decidedly lousy--Hollywood's idea of rock music--and Streisand looks good and always sounds fine (she won an Oscar for cowriting the song "Evergreen"). But you can feel her heavy hand guiding every shot; she seems to serve as puppet master for director Frank Pierson, framing every image of herself for maximum glow. The ultimate date flick (if the guy can sit still through it). --Marshall Fine
Description
The fire of Barbra Streisand. The magnetism of Kris Kristofferson. The reckless world of big-time rock 'n' roll. All three bring a new passion and timeliness to A Star Is Born, one of the screen's classic love stories (previously filmed in 1937 and 1954) and winner of five Golden GlobeO Awards, including Best Picture, Actress and Actor (Musical/Comedy). Paul Williams, Kenny Loggins, Leon Russell and others worked with Streisand on one of the most popular song scores ever, topped by the Streisand/Williams Evergreen winning the Academy AwardO and Golden GlobeO Award as 1976's Best Original Song. Their teamwork resulted in a box-office triumph as well as "a considerable achievement" (Clive Hirschhorn, The Hollywood Musical).

Customer Reviews:
It's Baraba.......what else would you expect !.......2007-08-30
To be known anywhere in the world with just a first name mentioned, makes you realize that Barbara Streisand is an icon of her profession.
After purchasing this CD I was pleasantly surprised with the selection on the CD where Barbara follows the viewer through the entire movie with interesting comments and insider information. Barbara's comments make you realize that she is sincere and dedicated to her audience.
john.......2007-07-14
been waiting for this epic film of streisand at her best to come out on dvd for ages, finally I've got it!.
dosen't dissapoint, Streisand at her best, evergreen is as fresh and beautiful as when i first heard it. the emotion that comes across is touching.
Fans of Streisand will love this classic.
Prefer the Judy Garland one.......2007-06-30
I am a great fan of Barbara Streisand but I prefer the Judy Garland version.
Evergreen..........2007-05-30
Barbra Streisand plays a singer who is discovered by a superstar, performed by Kris Kristofferson, whose career is going down the tubes because of his alcohol and drug dependency, combined with a reckless personality.
They soon initiate a relationship and fall madly in love with one another. They get married but he continues to diminish his stature while she gains in popularity. While his songs and music are decreasing in popularity and quality, her voice is capturing the hearts of fans everywhere, and the melodies she produces start to win awards.
Both performances are superb and the magnetism of both stars makes this movie a rather interesting story to watch. Evergreen shall forever enchant audiences, and owning a DVD where it is performed by Barbra Streisand and then hummed by her is simply... magnificent. Don't miss it!
Barbara is amazing.......2007-05-12
The films in itself isn't the best, but her singing simply draws you into the story in such a way that in the end, I cried! snif. Yep, it was gooooooooood.
Go babara!

Customer Reviews:
A More Complete Picture.......2007-08-15
This DVD has THE NEVERENDING STORY on one side and the other side of the disc has THE NEVERENDING STORY II.
In THE NEVERENDING STORY, Bastian Bux (Barret Oliver) is an average student who finds himself repeatedly being abused by bullies who like to steal his money and throw him into dumpsters. Bastian's mother is dead and both he and his father are still trying to cope with the loss. However, Bastian's father is a realist and thinks that Bastian spends too much time drawing pictures, reading books, and daydreaming. He wants his son to buckle down and get serious about school and life. He means well, but his advice doesn't do much to improve Bastian's condition. Eventually Bastian ends up meeting a strange bookstore owner that leaves a book, "The Neverending Story", where Bastian is able to borrow it. Bastian sneaks away to the attic of his school, locks himself in, and begins reading. The story is a fascinating tale about a place called Fantasia, a seeming endless world filled with countless creatures of every shape and size. Fantasia is under attack by an unknown force known as the Nothing that destroys everything in its path. The Childlike Empress (Tami Stronach) selects the mighty warrior from the plains people, Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) to go on a journey and find the one person who can save Fantasia from total annihilation. Atreyu sets forth on a long, difficult journey, traveling all over Fantasia, but no one seems capable of helping him. As Atreyu journeys, Bastian secretly accompanies him and shares in all of his adventures. The book reads like none other that Bastian has ever read and it seems that he is a part of the story. As the Nothing grows stronger, Bastian has to decide if he will give into reality of what he sees around him or allow his imagination take control.
In THE NEVERENDING STORY II Bastian (Jonathan Brandis) is once again transported to Fantasia. Bastian is no longer threatened by bullies, but is instead taunted by his classmates when he joins the dive team. His father (John Wesley Shipp) misguidedly prods Bastian into overcoming his fears. Frustrated, Bastian returns to Mr. Koreander's bookstore and though he is warned that the story in "The Neverending Story" doesn't remain the same, Bastian borrows the book and ends up returning to Fantasia. Upon entering Fantasia, Bastian finds that he has the symbol of the childlike Empress, Auryn, around his neck. He is informed by the giant bird Nimbly (Martin Umbach) that anytime he makes a wish, the power in Auryn will make the wish come true. However, there is a dark secret to Auryn. To save Fantasia, Bastian must find out Auryn's secret, defeat the evil witch Xayide, and stop the Emptiness from consuming Fantasia.
Of the two movies, THE NEVERENDING STORY is a far superior film that its sequel.
The DVD doesn't offer many extras. On THE NEVERENDING STORY side of the disc, there are some notes about the book and characters and a trailer for the film. THE NEVERENDING STORY II side has a trailer, cast & crew list, and a word scramble game called "Bastian's Challenge." Also, both movies are shown in full screen and not widescreen.
FOOLSCREEN - Obscene Hack Job of a Double Feature.......2007-08-06
Yes, I have to agree with the reviewers above, FOOLSCREEN is better overall if YOU ARE RETARDED! They REALLY need to throw away their 10inch B&W televisions and step into the present. Widescreen HDTV in Hi Def. We dont need to hack the art to make it fit the frame folks, you CAN buy a frame to match the size of the art :) Do yourselves a favor and go out and purchase both of these films seperately and watch them in glorious widescreen, as the Director's made them. When you watch FOOLSCREEN videos, you are missing the sides and top and bottom of the picture!
Jeez, you'd think reviews on Amazon were from WalMart customers!
The First was Great the Second was Okay.......2007-06-01
The first movie was fantastic!!! Something that I like to see over and over again. It is about a boy who gets this weird book from the library, starts reading it and that's where the story begins.
The second and third aren't really enjoyable but... they are okay.
NeverEnding Story.......2007-05-23
Every kid should watch this movie. It's good fantasy fun. I really liked this movie as a child.
Very Happy.......2007-05-12
I am really happy with the product. My niece wanted the movie for her birthday. It was nice that it was actually a 2 disk set. The price was great. The product was shipped very quickly without having to pay for expedited services. Thank you.

Fresh-faced Nickelodeon starlet Amanda Bynes stars in What a Girl Wants as Daphne, a 17-year-old girl in New York City who's spent her life pining for her absent father, a British lord named Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth) whom her mother (Kelly Preston) met during wilder days in Morocco. Tired of waiting for him to come to her, she decides to head to London where Dashwood is launching his political career--which could be derailed by her fun-loving, free-spirited attitude. Will her father choose the daughter he's never known or a position in Parliament? The plot of What a Girl Wants is ridiculously contrived, but the movie rides on the chemistry between Bynes and Firth. When, under Daphne's influence, Dashwood tries to break out of his stuffy shell and rediscover his inner rebel, the movie really starts to have fun. --Bret Fetzer
Description
Coming-of-Age Comedy. Daphne (Amanda Bynes), a spirited young American girl, travels to London in search of her long-lost father (Colin Firth), an influential aristocratic politician. As Daphne attempts to prove that love can conquer all, her impulsive behavior creates an uproar in high society, where her unique style threatens to undermine the relationship she has waited her whole life to experience.
Customer Reviews:
"THANK YOU LONDON!!" ~ "No Hugs, We're British".......2007-08-27
Synopsis: Daphne Reynolds (Amanda Bynes) is a cute, energetic 17 year old American girl who leaves her Mother (Kelly Preston) New York behind and travels to jolly old England to finally meet her Father Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), a wealthy, aristocratic nobleman and potential candidate for Prime Minister. As you might expect Daphne's outgoing personality and unconventional ways of expressing herself cause an instant stir in the British elite and jeopardize her Father's chances of political success.
Critique: Released in '03 `What A Girl Wants' is a predictable "chick flick" that exploits all the expected scenarios and pushes all the right emotional buttons that we've come to expect from this genre of film. Having that said you ask why then does it receive a -5 Star- rating? I can answer that in two words, Amanda Bynes. Nobody lights up the screen like the enchanting and talented Amanda. Add to that a delightful cast consisting of the popular Colin Firth, the lovely Kelly Preston and teen heartthrob Oliver James and you've got a movie that you'll never get tired of watching. When you're in the mood for something light, cute and heart warming this is it.
Funny.......2007-08-25
this is definately a must see if u like comedies and of course the pretty Amanda Bynes! she's just so cool and talented. this movie is greattt

This product is awesome! I love that movie and watch it all the time! The movie is in great, excellent condition with no scratches, no problems viewing, etc.
Great Movie!!.......2007-06-27
I saw this movie on a referral and was very apprehensive because I had never heard of it. I loved it!! It is one of my favorites now. It's about a teenage girl whose mom married an Englishman in Morocco, while on vacation, but because of his family and political issues, became separated. Her mother leaves him without telling him she is pregnant. So the girl has never met her dad. She goes to Europe to find him, knowing he is Lord Dashwood who is running for Prime Minister. His life is turned upside down by this young American girl. But, he pulls it all together in the end. What a great story!! Great acting. I loved the interviews in the specials section too!

movie is brilliant. Colin firth and amanda bynes are very funny. Oliver james is amazing as an actor and singer. the film as well as the soundtrack are well worth having in any collection

Melanie Griffith had a fling with stardom in this Mike Nichols comedy about an executive secretary (Griffith) who can't get her deserved shot at upward mobility in the brokerage industry. Hardly taken seriously by male bosses, things aren't really any better for her once she starts working for a female exec (Sigourney Weaver, never more delightful), a narcissist with a boy-toy banker (Harrison Ford) and a tendency to steal the best ideas from her underlings. When Weaver's character is laid up with a broken leg, Griffith poses as a replacement wheeler-dealer, flirting with Ford and working on a new client who doesn't suspect the deception. Nichols brings a lot of snap and sass to Kevin Wade's smart script about chafing against class restrictions and perceptions. Sundry scenes are played quite charmingly, especially those of Griffith and Ford's mutual pickup in a bar and Joan Cusack's championing of Griffith's crusade. Nominated for Best Picture, Director, Actress (Griffith), and two Supporting Actress awards (Weaver, Cusack); Carly Simon's song "Let the River Run" won the Oscar. --Tom Keogh
Description
Nominated for 6 Academy Awards; director Mike Nichols' witty, romantic look at life in the corporate jungle stars Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary with a unique approach for climbing the ladder to success. When her classy, but villainous boss (Sigourneey Weaver) Breaks a leg skiing, Tess simply takes over her office, her apartment, even her wardrobe. She then creates a deal with a handsome investment banker (Harrison Ford) that will either take her straight to the top - or finish her off for good.
Customer Reviews:
the good "gal" wins .......2007-05-26
this is a movie for a dank night, when you're feeling down about your job, employer, or simply at things you can't control.
Delight in a farfetched but very well written and acted plot, where the "bad" witch is a successful woman, the heroine is a feisty and spunky smartass who knows what she needs to do to succeed but lacks the credentials to get there, and Harrison Ford being his romantic lead best.
Good wins over evil, the right woman wins the guy of many of our dreams, and perhaps best yet...woman are equal to men in the power plays of business. Its worth watching again and again!
Smashing the Glass Ceiling.......2007-03-21
What I love about Mike Nichols' Working Girl, each time that I view the DVD, is that the film reminds me of the Cinderella fairytale re-envisioned as a corporate fable. While there are no evil stepmoms and stepsisters here, Tess McGill (Melanie Griffith) finds herself in just as miserable a situation, with a conniving boss (portrayed by a perfectly lanky Sigourney Weaver) and a duplicitous boyfriend (portrayed with an adequate balance of arrogance and warmth by Alec Baldwin).
Instead of a glass slipper, Tess slips into a little black dress with plenty of persuasion by her fairy godmother, Cynthia (played by John's big sister, Joan Cusack). The dress and the hair are key to hooking the corporate Prince (portrayed by a dapper Harrison Ford). It is the larger-than-life Cusack as "Cyn" -- Tess' nickname for her best friend from their Staten Island 'hood -- who rules in Working Girl.
Best Supporting Actress Cusack steals more than one scene, such as the one in which she reacts to an expensive dress from the wardrobe of Tess' boss with the line: "It's not even leather," the last word emphatically pronounced "LEH-thuh" as if the price tag on the dress were a working-class faux pas. In that scene, Griffith as Tess nearly faints. Brilliant!
However, Tess delivers my most favorite line in the movie, in a scene with Harrison Ford's character, Jack Trainor: "I've got a head for business and a bod for sin." I must admit that it's not only what she says in that scene, but also how she says it. Griffith and Ford's chemistry is as electric in Working Girl as that of Bogie and Bergman or Grant and (Audrey) Hepburn in their own Hollywood classics.
If you buy this DVD, it certainly will not disappoint.
Working Girl, dvd.......2007-01-04
This is the story of an employee who is kept at the bottom of the corporate chain, as a secretary. Her ideas are taken by her boss, and passed off as her own. The secretary steps outside her group and runs an idea. Sigourney Weaver is good as the villainous squelcher. Melanie Griffith is good as the "take this job and shove it" secretary. Harrison Ford is always good as the romantic interest, of both women. Retribution is swift, but honesty conquers in the end.
4 stars for this fun and witty comedy.......2006-12-28
I had recently heard about this movie in the film "Little Black Book." I personally think that this is a fun, and very enjoyable comedy. It is about this secretery named Tess, who gets a job for this very important, big, and rich business woman named Katharine. After throwing an idea to Katharine to help the business, her boss steals her idea and takes credit for it. Left heartbroken and sad, she poses as Katharine after she is injured on vacation. She then works with and falls in love with Harrison Ford's character. The DVD features include two theatrical trailers, three televison spots, and theatrical trailers for other 20th Century Fox movies. Not too great of a DVD, but well worth the price, only $9.99, at most places
Great Story.......2006-10-28
I was on the edge of my seat - WILLING Melanie Griffith's character to MAKE IT in the business world. She was smart, pretty, and hard-working. She deserved a break.
Will she get it? Watch and see.

What a combo! Tobe Hooper, the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, teamed up with family-oriented producer Steven Spielberg to make Poltergeist. The film is about a haunted suburban tract home in a development very much like the Arizona one in which Spielberg was raised. (Because it came out the same summer as Spielberg's E.T., it was tempting to see both movies as representing Spielberg's ambivalent feelings about childhood in suburbia. One was a fantasy, the other a nightmare.) Spielberg also cowrote the screenplay, which taps into primal, childlike fears of monsters under the bed, monsters in the closet, sinister clown faces, and all manner of things that go bump in the night. At first, some of the odd happenings in the house are kind of funny and amusing, but they grow gradually creepier until the film climaxes in a terrifying special-effects extravaganza when 5-year-old Carole Anne (Heather O'Rourke) is kidnapped by the spooks and held hostage in another dimension. Though not nearly as frightening as Hooper's magnum opus, or the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, which came along two years later, Poltergeist is one of the smartest and most entertaining horror pictures of its time. --Jim Emerson

Classic.......2007-09-03
Poltergeist was a good movie. I really enjoyed the speical effects in this film. I really enjoyed the part where the mom is in the pool looking for her daughter and all the skeltons pop up. I thought the last 30 minutes of the movie were nonstop excitement.
On a side note, the TV show Family Guy spoofed this movie. It was really well done and very funny.
CLASIC!! ENOUGH SAID!.......2007-09-01
poltergeist, a very good movie. it's hard to make movies like this nowadays, so when it happens it's good to hear, but here's a movie that's old skool horror. a battle between good and evil. an innocent family on unholy ground. a little girl lured in by evil, parents must fight to get her back. this film has been around for a very long time and it's still scaring strong.
Finally....Special Edition in Oct. 07.......2007-08-17

Classic!.......2007-08-12
I've loved this movie ever since I saw it in the theatres. It's creepy without being gross or vulgar. Spoilers ahead, so if you've not seen the movie, stop here. I love the way it starts out slow, with just a few minor creepy details, such as sliding across the kitchen floor, or the "TV people". Who could ever forget the creepy tree or clown (YIKES!)? Then it picks up with the disappearance of Carol-Ann. Who could forget the classic lines, "There, here!" and, "Go into the light, Carol-Ann."? Also, how many scary movies are out there that are well-done where no one dies? "Watcher in the Woods" is another great example of creepy without vulgarity or death. The sequels are cheesy, leave out the character of Dana (the actress was murdered after this movie was made), and betray the plotline of this movie. So, as far as I'm concerned, this was the only poltergeist movie. This movie's timeless, and the special effects are still good by today's standards. Nice effects without CGI; well-done indeed.
Still scares me to this day, a classic!.......2007-07-10
Poltergeist is still one of the great '80s horror flicks. Directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg, Poltergeist still lives up to the hype 25 years later. I love this movie, it's still enjoyable, witty, and creepy as hell. If you never seen this film then boy you are missing out on a real treat. Buy this gem today!

Born Yesterday

Judy Holliday's Oscar-winning performance is just one of the reasons to watch this terrific 1950 comedy, which is equally acclaimed for its deliciously witty screenplay (based on Garson Kanin's long-running Broadway hit) and George Cukor's silky-smooth direction. Holliday plays Billie Dawn, the floozie fiancée of a junk-dealer millionaire (Broderick Crawford), who is trying to make a good impression among the Washington, D.C., politicos he's hoping to influence. To ensure that Billie gets properly "culturefied," the corrupt Crawford hires a D.C. journalist (William Holden) to give the seemingly dim-witted blonde a crash course in politics, history, literature, and--you guessed it--true love. Billie's not nearly as dumb as she seems, of course, and before long she's graduated from pawn to sassy queen on her husband's political chessboard.
Watching Born Yesterday is a crash course in itself--an object lesson in how low American screen comedy has fallen from these delirious heights. The movie's funny even when there's a pause in the golden dialogue, such as when Holliday tests Crawford's patience in a sublimely comedic round of gin rummy. There's not a single scene in which Holliday (reprising her Broadway role) isn't simply perfect, the cogs turning smoothly behind her dim expressions and coarsely high-pitched squeal. Suave as ever, Holden is her match made in heaven, and Crawford is a brute who's too stupid to be genuinely malevolent. Put 'em all together and you've got a timeless classic, so flawless that a 1993 remake was instantly doomed to pale comparisons. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Born Yesterday.......2007-06-25
New York-born comedienne Holliday had her first real film break the prior year as the wronged wife in the Tracy-Hepburn comedy "Adam's Rib" (1949), and her solid supporting turn helped her clinch the role of Billie, a role she'd done on Broadway. With its witty screenplay and "Pygmalion"-like story, the result was pure gold, netting Holliday the Best Actress Oscar for 1950, and jump-starting her film career in earnest. Broderick is wonderfully crude as her pre-occupied husband, and Holden performs the unheralded job of straight man with finesse. And Judy is fantastic. Smoothly paced comedy from master George Cukor.
Another classic to love.......2007-04-02
I remember seeing this film when I was 12 or so with my Mom. It left an impression and I knew I would have to add this to my classic movie collection. How I enjoyed watching Judy Holliday's performance, she was unique with a wonderful sense of comedic timing. Anyone who collects classic comedies should add this to the list.
What Learning Will Do to You.......2007-04-02
Born Yesterday begins with a narcissistic junk dealer Harry Brock (Broderick Crawford) who is planning a major merger with his company to make loads of money. He uses his dizzy girlfriend Billie (Judy Holliday) as a middleman, though he really controls everything she "owns." She is just content to accept his lavish gifts and be pretty. That is until Paul(William Holden) comes along. He is hired by Harry to educate Billie; she embarasses him in front of sophisticated company. In the process, she learns just how corrupt her fiancee is and why her father has disowned her. She also develops eyes for her teacher.
Holliday won the Oscar for her performance in this film against such professionals as Bette Davis and Gloria Swanson. Indeed, her performance is wonderful. One can watch her character transform before one's eyes from a gold digging chorus girl to an intelligent woman. Her relationship with Holden is believable and powerful. In fact, all of the roles are well developed. The dialogue is conversational but intelligent, making this a very worthwhile film.
Great Performance.......2006-12-04
I'm not a big Judy Holliday fan. She seems to have played the ditzy but smart squeaky-voice role over and over. This said, Born Yesterday is easily her best movie. The script is smart and sweet and she and William Holden have a natural, believable screen chemistry. The performances are excellent as is the Pygmalion like transformation of Holliday's character from mouse to lionness. A great comedy of manners and morality.
A Revival of Sorts........2006-09-11
This original Oscar-winning movie starring Judy Holliday was clever, witty and wise. It was shown on TCM with Nick Clooney guiding us with his winning ways into the mood of the Forties. He couldn't have seen the original at the theaters, either, as he and I are the same age, so I know I didn't see it when I was only ten. I thought the moll was ditzy and pretty dumb with a silly-sounding voice. In Pulaski, Nate Street from Hickman County, a radio personality who liked to be thought of as a drama critic as he always attended dress rehearsal of the college plays, voiced his like for this crazy dame. So, I thought that if he thought she was so good, as she was in "Bells Are Ringing," maybe he was right again.
Today, I saw a revival of "Born Yesterday" with my favorite local actor as the genius, Paul Verrall. He was splendid as I expected, though he did not have the Washington, D.C. accent. The whole performance was professionally done at the Clarence Brown Theater here. Previously, I was lucky to have stumbled into a performance in which Terry Weber was a one-man play about Abraham Lincoln/John Wilkes Booth and have never enjoyed a performance of any play more. He has an unusual talent to be serious, musical, and sometimes funny.
The play centers around political corruption in which Billie becomes unknowingly involved. That is, until Paul tutors her on proper ways of thinking and talking so as to 'fit in.' Judy played to the camera and acted as a silly, dumb blonde. Today, the actress was unusually clever in adopting Judy's unique way of speaking but showing how easy it is to change practically overnight into an educated woman who can fall in love and not just be used by a rich man. She was smart enough to take her furs when she left him. Broaderick Crawford, known for "Highway Patrol" on television, could not have been as brutal as Neil Friedman from Chicago as Harry Brock. He didn't even use his Chicago accent. That was good acting to say the least. Terry was the star of this revival of sorts, a revolution against violence and money laundering of any kind.

Customer Reviews:
not a standout in its genre and equally not hilarious.......2007-09-13
I saw this with a few people who, like myself, love various types of genres. We had garnered tickets at it's premier at a film festival and wasn't of course expecting Oscar material or even anything close to a Danny Boyles film. Around the 45 minute mark, we leaned over to each other several times wondering what we were doing here, and if we wanted to leave. Any comparison at all, like other reviewers, comparing this mess to a George A. Romero film or the 28 series is simply ludicrous and a disgrace to their work. (although if you are a fan of the Asia Argento mess, you will probably consider this one of the finest films of its kind, oh my.) This film is phony, it's characters are wooden and undeniably lackluster. I understand that the film is supposed to be a farce, but truly it must be for a certain type of film lover.
Other reviews talk about how funny it was, well no one laughed hardly at all in the packed theatre and I am assuming most of them were fanatics of this type of genre, unless they were given tickets and expected something like Out of Africa, but I hardly doubt that. Did Leslie Neilson accidentally direct this?
I have compiled a list of ideas for you other than waste your time on this stupid, adolescent cornucopia of absurdity:
1. rent 'Gummy', gouge your eyes out with lead pencils and gnaw on the rubber ends.
2. find a good book, perhaps Rosie's new toiletbowl trash and draw small figments of your imagination in the margins, realizing you would be actually creating something tangible, whereas your viewing of this movie will make you a prize idiot.
3. Go rent some equipment, get a student cinematographer, a few extras, take an add out in the paper, go get a permit to film in the sewers of manhattan, and a decent torch. Write a quick scenario in your head, throw it at the ensemble, get some fake blood, and a generator to play Silent Hill on on xbox for inspiration, do a few takes, have some talking zombie whores from the Port Authority bus terminal eating raw flesh from an Anne Coulter type, and you may just find yourself at a film festival.
A Zombie Masterpiece!!!.......2007-09-07
Zombie sheep that is. This movie is a masterpiece from somewhat of a sick point of view I guess. The creature effects are, without a question, top notch and the story is as ingenius as it is unique. Not often is a B movie concept like this one fleshed out so beautifully. Am I saying this movie is perfect? Of course not. But remember...for every great zombie film..there are probably at least fifty horrible ones. This one definitely belongs on the great shelf with the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake and 28 WEEKS LATER.
HIDE THE SHEEP .......2007-09-06
IF YOU ARE A FAN OF AUSSIE HORROR ( WHICH TENDS TO BE SPOTTY AT TIMES FROM GOOD "DEAD ALIVE " TO TERRIBLE "UNDEAD " )HERES A REALLY CLEVER TALE .
TYPICAL OF NATURE GONE MAD FILMS LIKE "FROGS" OR "FOOD OF THE GODS" THIS ONE REVOLVES AROUND A FAMILY / CORPORATION WHICH GENETICALLY TRIES TO IMPROVE THEIR SHEEP FARMING WITH DISASTEROUS RESULTS .
THE TRULY INSPIRED IDEA THAT SWEET LITTLE SHEEP CAN BE A THREAT DOESNT WEAR THIN IN EITHER THE LAUGHS OR THE GORE . THIS FILM SIMPLY IS FUN . THE LAUGHS ARE SELF SERVING AND SILLY SURE BUT IN AN EVIL DEAD 2 KINDA WAY .
BELIEVE ME IM NOT A BIG FAN OF HORROR PLAYED FOR LAUGHS (ITS WAY OVERDONE AND OFFENSIVE TO REAL HORROR FANS ) BUT THIS FILM REALLY IS SO OVER THE TOP ITS JUST WORKS .
BY THE TIME THE HERO QUAKES WITH TERROR AT THE SIGHT OF HUNDREDS OF SHEEP COMING OVER A HILL THE ABSURDITY AND HILARITY WILL SURELY OVERCOME YOU AS IT DID ME .
WELL WORTH A LOOK AND FOR THE COLLECTOR HORROR FAN A FINE ADDITION TO YOUR COLLECTION .A WINNER .

Hannahs neighborhood has just gotten a little weird. Ever since that new boy moved in next door. But when did he move in? Wasn't the house empty when Hannah went to sleep the night before? Why does it still look so deserted?
She's not getting any answers from her new neighbor. He just keeps disappearing in the oddest ways. And he's so pale....
Is Hannah being haunted by...the ghost next door???

WHO IS YOUR NEIGHBOR???.......2006-01-13
In this movie Hannah, a very weird girl goes around being ignored, she writes letters to this girl, her only friend who never replies back, her parents are never home and this leaves you wondering what is really going on? I wont give any spoilers but see this movie if you love the cheezy acting and fun horror!I laugh everytime! Great twist!
Favorite Part: The boys deaf Mom, and then hannah goes "Your mom makes me want to learn sign language"
This movie kicked ass, but they should really make a Monster Blood DVD!.......2005-10-29
This movie is good, but they should really make a Monster Blood DVD.
Good Episode.......2005-10-28
I think that The Ghost Next Door is a really good episode. It is kindof scary and I think its the best episode of the fourth season. It's also kind of creepy with the music and lighting in this movie.
A movie that tried to become scary, but failed.......2005-10-21
A movie that tried to become scary, but failed. Yep, that's what the Ghost Next Door did. It is a rather odd movie. The thing with Goosebumps movies... They never follow the book. Never. It is about a twisted child named Hannah Fairchild. She see's this black ghastly ( to her. But not to me) image. She dials September 11 ( 911). The phone doesn't work. She stupidly runs outside. A kid says boo. She screams. That's the movie. Sorry, but this movie didn't go excellent in my mind. See Chillogy if you want a goosebumps movie!
