The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with Monsters, Inc., the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (Toy Story) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. By the last heart-tugging shot, kids may never look at monsters the same, nor artists at what computer animation can do in the hands of magicians. --Doug Thomas

Description

From the Academy Award(R)-winning creators of TOY STORY comes the computer-animated film that captured the hearts of fans and critics everywhere. MONSTERS, INC., is "visually dazzling, action-packed, and hilarious" (Boston Herald), featuring groundbreaking animation, imaginative storytelling, and unforgettable voice talent. John Goodman stars as the lovable James P. Sullivan (Sulley) and Billy Crystal as his wisecracking best friend, Mike Wazowski. Top scarer Sulley and his enthusiastic Scare Assistant Mike work at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. The main power source of the monster world is the collected screams of human children. Monsters believe children are dangerous and toxic, however, and they are scared silly when a little girl wanders into their world. Sulley and Mike do their best to return the girl home, but they face monstrous intrigue and some hilarious misadventures along the way. MONSTERS, INC., is "supremely clever -- fun for kids and adults alike" (CBS-TV). Treat yourself to the most entertaining movie of the year with all-new exclusive bonus features and animation for monster laughs and monster fun.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Wish there were a sequel!.......2007-06-28

It was that good! Unfortunately they didn't leave a door open for a sequel. Great story about the Monsters all little kids fear in their bed at night, and their interaction with those kids. It gives you the persepective from the other side of your closet door where the Monsters live. The characters are very lovable. Great, great comedy sequences, you will be laughing out loud! Unique story line. "Loving" out-come. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars WOW!! What a great movie.. This movie should live on FOREVER!!!.......2007-06-22

This movie was great and it was really enjoyable and funny. I have had this movie since it came out as I went to see it in the movie theater. This would be my favorite movie of all time. Sulley(James P. Sullivan) and Mike Wazowski (the main characters of this movie) are my favorite characters in this movie and are my two favorite characters in any movie. Randall Boggs would be my third favorite character in the movie because he makes me LAUGH!! But he gets destroyed into a trailor during my favorite part of the movie which is when Mike and Sulley are hanging or flying on doors to try to get Boo home. Boo is my least favorite character in this movie because she CRIES a lot during the movie and just not my favorite. Celia, who Mike is in love with isn't all that great too. But I think Roz is great. She makes me laugh when she tells Mike that he didn't turn in his paperwork. and Mr. Waternoose would be my 5th and last most favorite character in this movie till he gets arrested by the CDA. Also, the part where Mike and Sulley go to Himalayas is great because they're in a BLIZZARD!! The worst part of the movie is when Sulley and Mike take Boo home that's when I feel to cry. But overall, this is a really great movie which I wish I could give this 10 stars. Please get this movie but Shrek s$cked!!!
Best film of the year.

5 out of 5 stars Power-ful Kiddie Entertainment.......2007-06-21

Some of the best stories for children have presented their worst fears only to have the menace brought down to size. "Jack and the Beanstalk" works that way perfectly. 'Monsters, Inc.' helps to tuck the kiddies in and give them the giggles, too. Taking near day-glow colors, the Monsters in this fluid Pixar picture are hideously cute. They live in a "green" world where the renewable resource of children's fright powers the Monster community. Looking like the sorts in (Lucas Films, Ltd. is credited here) a 'Star Wars' bar scene, the film's focus is on the power company where the employees go through magic doors, their portals to children's bedrooms where the fright factor generates their power plant.

Heading the troops is big blue "Sully" (John Goodman) a good natured monster, proud of his ability to be the equivalent of "Employee of the Month". Keeping track of his generating power, he is out to set a plant record. His green, one-eyed sidekick, Mike Wazowski, (Billy Crystal) has a Martian appearance, but his voice couldn't scare a mouse. He is smitten by one-eyed purple princess, Shroopsy with hydra hair (snake braids). They all face their competition with rascally Randall, (perfectly villainous, Steve Buscemi) the salamander-like monster with invisible capabilities. Pivotal to the plot is Mr. Waternoose, (James Coburn) a tycoon who resembles a tarantula in a three-piece suit. In the causality is 'Silkwood'-like contamination if any child or remnant remains in the Monster world. (In other words: Just like parents often say about insects or some animals: "They're more afraid of [children], than [they] are of them.") Sully and James come across "Boo" whom they find in their best interests to return to the dark realm of her own bedroom.

Formidable to the fore, 'Monsters,..." takes a premise that could have been a dumb non-starter, and provides supporting plot structures with enough heft to turn the adventure on. With Pixar animation, the movement is flowing enough to take the technological edge off the look, and Andrew Stanton and Daniel Gerson's screenplay keep the dialogue fresh and funny. Director Pete Docter gives the movie proper assembly. 'Monsters, Inc.' is therapeutically good for children's dreamscapes as well as their funny bones. (Highly recommended to rent and to own.)

5 out of 5 stars Pixar Created A Classic!.......2007-06-14

Monsters Inc is a great piece that your family will love! Loveable monsters are brought to life and make you laugh a lot! Laughter is more powerful than screams you know. A loveable classic for any collection!

5 out of 5 stars Great movie.......2007-06-13

Hey it's Mike,
Wow!! What a great movie this is. This is by far my favorite movie due to the presence of Mike and Sulley. There is not a lot of great movies out there, but this one is one of the very best!! Sulley, Mike, Randall, Roz, and Waternoose are all great characters and 3 of them are really funny! Boo and Celia are my two least favorite characters in the film. The best part of this movie is the Flying on Doors part where Randall gets destroyed.
The end is the saddest part of the movie when Sulley and Mike take Boo home.

Well this movie is the best as I wish that I can give this much more than 5 stars like a million stars. Please buy.

3 out of 5 stars Not for a toddler who is learning spanish.......2007-08-30

I rated this item in the lower range because I though my 2 1/2 year old could learn more spanish with this video. Definitely is designed for kids that are already fluent in the language. The conversation is quite difficult to follow for a 2 1/2 year old who is just learning spanish. Perhaps is for older kids 4 or 5. However, it does entertain my toddler and she likes all the characters in the video. For the beginner learner i found that Brainy Baby - Spanish was a better choice.

4 out of 5 stars Me Gusta!.......2007-06-18

I bought quite a few of the Plaza Sesamo DVD's and my daughter has been fairly interested in them. She was afraid of a couple of the characters at first, but now they don't even phase her.

4 out of 5 stars cute spanish dvd.......2007-06-14

this is a cute spanish dvd, my daughter seems to enjoy it at the age of 2, but she loves any tv. it's cute to see the spanish versions of sesame street though. i'm sure my daughter will learn a few spanish words.

5 out of 5 stars A hit with daughter.......2007-05-18

My daughter is hypnotized by anything Sesame Street. This Spanish-language version is no different.

4 out of 5 stars Good DVD.......2007-05-16

I bought this DVD for my niece who has moved away from her Spanish speaking grandmother. The first time I played it she sat enthralled: danced, clapped, laughed. She is only 1yr, but it is a great time to keep her introduced to a second language. I watched the video with her and it was just like the sesame street I remember, but it is ALL Spanish. Maybe I'll learn something too.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle is a big, fun, bubble-brained mess of a movie, and that's exactly as it should be. Its popular 2000 predecessor got the formula right: gorgeous babes, throwaway plots, and as many current pop-cultural trends as you could stuff into a candy-coated dollop of Hollywood mayhem. This sequel goes one "better": The plot's even more disposable (if that's possible), the babes, cars, and fashions even more outlandish, and the stuntwork (heavily digital, heavily absurd) reaches astonishing heights of cartoon silliness. Reprising their titular (and shamelessly titillating) roles, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu are having the time of their lives, especially when sparring with ultra-buff rogue angel Demi Moore (looking better at 40 than most women half her age) and Justin Theroux as a sleazy Irish mobster. Bernie Mac replaces Bill Murray as angel-sidekick Bosley (they're step-brothers, don'cha know), which is one more indication of McG's intentionally reckless stewardship of an intentionally reckless franchise. Our advice: sit back, relax, and get jiggly with it. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A really good sequel worth watching........2007-08-23

I can't believe this movie was panned. I liked this so much I saw it in theaters twice. Demi Moore was perfect as the "angel-turned-bad" villian. The unrated dvd contains more of the harbor fight scene. The plot revolves around two titanium rings that contain all people in the witness protection program on them being stolen. The suspected is an Irish-American mob family that many people in the program have testified against. After some of the people start turning up dead, the Angels start to investigate. The case takes a toll when Dylan becomes hugely involved and a dark secret from her past starts to haunt her. The film has a much bigger comic charm due to Bernie Mac joining the cast as Bosley. His character is funny and lovable.

5 out of 5 stars Greatness.......2007-02-21

It makes Citizen Kane look amateurish. The finest most profound film of our time. "Proof" that TV writers are our greatest artistes.

1 out of 5 stars The Worst Movie in the History of Cinema.......2007-01-26

A few months ago I was channel surfing when I stumbled across Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle. This movie is light years beyond awful. I believe it was the worst movie of 2003, the worst movie of the decade, the worst movie in the history of cinema.

Some Amazon vendors are selling used DVDs of this film for one penny, but even that price is far too high. The only good thing about this movie is that it would make an effective alternative to water boarding.

1 out of 5 stars Hey remember when movies used to be about plot and story lines?.......2007-01-02

-This spectacular piece of poop is about the three angels stopping a former angel from taking over the world or whatever. So the angels must stop her and whiles they're busy doing that they run into such amazing adventures like stripping for no reason and delivering lines so terrible they almost blew out my center speaker. In the incredibly predictable and crappy end they save the day and they all give us a constipated smile to suggest that they live happily ever after. Wow that has never been done before. I always thought that foolscreen DVD's were the worst thing to happen to cinema but it turns out I was wrong, that crown goes to the master filmmaker McG. How the hell he keeps getting his movies green lit is perhaps the greatest mystery since "why Paris Hilton is famous". I'm really glad that he dropped out of the new "Superman" movie and let the supremely talented Bryan Singer direct, because if he had directed it then "Batman Begins" would have been the first and only great DC comics movie.

-I really hate this movie. Usually there's something decent about every movie but this movie had NOTHING. Much like that dog poop "House of the Dead" this movie is devout of any form of entertainment what so ever. There are potholes so big you can drive a tank through them. Then there's the lines, my god this movie has pound for pound some of the worst dialog ever to invade my ears. Whoever was the DP on this movie needs to beaten severely because the look of this crap gave me a headache. The colors are so bright and so "look at me" that it causes nausea, and the lights are so heavy on the actors that their faces look like it has had too much make up applied to it.

-The fights are also incredibly stupid. You can tell that these women are on a wire so much that it borders on the idiotic. McG's attitude in this crap was that the angles can do anything, and that includes sliding under tables and doing cartwheels with a chair. Another thing that drove me insane is that these girls are suppose to be intelligent and yet they keep acting stupid in every scene that we see them in. There is one scene in which the angels must retrieve a key from a man and instead of waiting for him in a parking lot and knocking him down to steal the key, they instead opt to do a striptease and distract him. I'm sure some horny 14 year old may find that entertaining but if you're not horny, and 14 then you'll find it as pointless as everyone else did. The music is bland and the jokes go down faster than Jenna Jameson at work. If you look up deplorable in the dictionary you'll see a picture of this movie

-If you have a party and you want to clear out the room then pop this movie in and surely everyone will leave your house so you can clean up, but if you're not having a party and want to clear the room then please by all means avoid this with all your might. it is really dreadful and painful, kinda like my jokes.

1 out of 5 stars Loud, obnoxious, pathetic attempt at entertainment for morons........2006-08-07

This film has plenty of mindless action, impossible (to the point of laughable) stunts, and a healthy supply of sexual inuendo. It has all of the ingredients of a large scale "jane bond" (times three) but the finished product will still leave you feeling like you just ate some really bad fast food. A pounding headache is also quite normal after a viewing since complete suspension of disbelief is required.

The "camp" level is turned up so high that it doesn't mix well with the seriousness of the violence and action. Or is it the other way around? Something "fun" could have been done with this material, these actors, and the money spent on FX. But instead we're treated to a collection of loud, mind numbing, rediculous stunts all held together by smirks, quips, winks, and a plot as thick as dental floss. It all comes down to a horrible script lacking any true sense of "fun". For those who argue that this film actually lives up to every "simple" thing that it's "supposed to be" - let me refine my review to just one "simple" sentence:

This movie is a big piece of crap for really, really stupid people!

Bob Hope returned to the wild West in Son of Paleface, mining the rootin' shootin' genre for gag after gag. Hope plays Junior Potter--another variation on his lascivious, cowardly, yet somehow endearing persona--a college boy who's come to California seeking his father's hidden gold. What he finds is an empty treasure chest, a pile of unpaid bills, vengeful Indians, buxom Jane Russell (as a saloon girl by day, wily bandit by night), and singing cowboy Roy Rogers. It's prime silliness, an ancestor to movies like Airplane! that never let a moment go by without an absurd joke. Russell sashays about in spectacular form-fitting outfits, Rogers yodels a few tunes, and Hope snivels and wheedles his way out of endless scrapes. Good-natured slapstick (though its depiction of Native Americans will raise the hackles on politically correct viewers). --Bret Fetzer

Four years after his hit comedy "The Palface 1948" , Bob Hope (1903-2003) returned to the screen as Junior Potter , Son of Painless Peter Potter , the hapless hero of the first film (The Palface 1948) . The Harvard-bred Junior heads out West to claim his fathers inheritance .Returning for the sequel , but in a different role , is Jane Russell (1921 - ) as a outlaw named "Mike" who continually has to save this our hapless hero . Also starring in the sequel is the king of the Cowboys himself, Roy Rogers (1911-1998) and his horse trigger (1932-1965) who portray themselves . Hope teams with the pair to get to the bottom of a gold shipment robbery . Also for the sequel is the oscar-winning song "Buttons and Bows" .Cowriter and director Frank Tashlin (1913-1972) , a former cartoonist and screenwriter of the first (The Palface 1948) . High Quality transfer ! Recommended

4 out of 5 stars Very Funny Western Farce With Bob Hope And Trigger The Wonder Horse In Top Form .......2006-04-06

After the huge success of 1948's "The Paleface", which starred Bob Hope and the very beautiful Jane Russell in a hilarious farce set in the old west a sequel was a logical idea and this time around the jokes and genral scenerio were even better. Relying on the usual Hope format of jokes about current events (for 1952), a good natured jibe at pal Bing Crosby, and with him often stepping out of character during the story, to deliver some of his memorable quips, "Son of Paleface", is one sequel that really does work better than its parent. Apart from the beautiful Jane Russell returning in this sequel playing a different character from the first film, Bob Hope is teamed here also with western star Roy Rogers and his wonder horse Trigger. This makes for some great comedy and the laughs come thick and fast as Bob Hope good naturedly sends up Roy Roger's squeaky clean image and also has some memorable run ins with Trigger that have to be seen to be believed. I generally love the Bob Hope humour of his best films and while this effort comes much later in his illustrious career than such classics as "The Ghost Breakers", and "My Favourite Blonde", it is a memorable effort nevertheless that deserves the classic status that audiences have bestowed on it.

You certainly never go into a Bob Hope comedy like "Son of Paleface", expecting realism and nor should you. What we do get here however is a laugh filled few hours of great comedy, tremendous gags, and often quite a bit of adlibbing. By the early 1950's Bob Hope had his cowardly, wise cracking persona down pat and his Juniour Potter character here is one of his best ever ready with a fast one liner or wry observation about his own cowardly manner. Silly and not to be taken seriously for one minute "Son of Paleface", may be but it is just the movie experience guaranteed to drive away any blues you may be feeling. It's been a very long time since a movie experience has been capable of really doing that and great credit must go to Hope, Jane Russell, Roy Rogers and Trigger for this great piece of old fashioned comedy entertainment that is always worth another viewing of. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Great movie!!!!!!!.......2005-09-07

For me I love Bob Hope so I loved this movie!I also really admire Jane Russell with her eyes that really speak for themselves! I recommend this movie to anyone and I cannot forget Roy Rogers and his sidekick Trigger the horse! Trigger really makes this movie, what a talented animal!!!!!
The story is cute and kind of corny but it's Bob Hope and he can get away with about anything!Oh and of course Bing also has a cameo!!!!!
So to all who read this, the movie is well worth seeing!

Bob Hope brings his own brand of laughing gas to the Wild West as a would-be "painless" dentist lassoed into marrying Jane Russell. She's a shapely outlaw turned undercover agent on the trail of some varmints selling guns to a hostile Indian tribe, and he's her unwitting cover. Hope cowers and cracks self-effacing jokes while bodies fall around him ("Brave men run in my family," he quips, then runs), but he's even funnier swaggering and sneering like a kid playing cowboy in a flamboyant costume apparently stolen from the Oklahoma! road show. The Paleface is one of his best films, and the unflappable Russell is a great match. Theme song "Buttons and Bows" (which Hope delivers with a clowning mock twang) won an Oscar ®, and the 1948 film spawned a sequel (Son of Paleface, costarring Roy Rogers and Trigger) and a remake (The Shakiest Gun in the West with Don Knotts). --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars The Paleface 1948.......2006-04-19

The wild west has never been wilder or funnier , than in this classic six-shoting farce which introduced the Academy award winning song "Buttons and Bows" . Bob Hope (1903-2003) in one of his most populare roles , hi plays "Painless" Peter Potter , a timmid corrspondence school dentist earning a shaky living in the lawless West . When "Painless" seduced into agreeing t a quickie marriege by the voluptous Jane Russell (1921- ) , hi thinks his luck changed . Little does hi suspect that Russell is actually sharpshooter Calamity Jane (1848-1903) , hot on trail of dangerous renegade gang and that she simply using "Painless" as her cover and unwitting dupe . This old west burlesque , brightened by Tehnicolor and Uproarious slapstick went to become one of Bob Hopes best loved . Vehicles and his biggest box office hit .Saddle up for athe wild comic ride . Marvelous movie with many laughts . Super transfer in High Quality pictures . Recommended .

don't be tempted. hope was funny on his shows in a different format, where spontaneity was his forte. executing someone else's scripted directions and dialogue, he's average...wouldn't even make second string on the stooges.

pure junk.

4 out of 5 stars Hope Hit.......2003-04-06

My favorite Bob Hope moment of all time comes from this film. Not his amazing facility with a gag or a prop but when he sings "Buttons and Bows" in an attempt to seduce Jane Russell. It's a great song and wonderfully done. Hope never got to work with the great directors for some reason so his work is often overlooked today, but shouldn't be. Otherwise he'd be recognized as the most influential American comic actor of the sound era.

Another thing that drove me insane is that these girls are suppose to be intelligent and yet they keep acting stupid in every scene that we see them in. Shirley Temple, the original dancing baby, sings her signature song, "On the Good Ship Lollipop," in this heart-rending drama, one of eight films she made in 1934 (!) at the ripe age of 6, and for which she was honored with a special pint-sized Academy Award. Temple stars as Shirley, the curly-headed "gosh, oh gee"-adorable mascot to a group of aviators since her pilot father "cracked up and went to heaven." Get out your handkerchiefs when Shirley's mother is also killed, setting up a custody battle between the nasty, highfalutin Joy Smythe's curmudgeon uncle Ned; Loop, another pilot; and the society girl who once left Loop grounded at the altar.

Temple's movies are today marketed as children's films, but, like the classic Warner Bros. cartoons, they were made for adults. Her plucky, indomitable spirit helped America get through the Depression. She's perky and precocious to beat the band, but she suffers so on the way to the inevitable happy ending. When she gushes, "It's the best day I've ever had in my whole life," you know tragedy is imminent.

In Bright Eyes she is also at the mercy of bratty Smythe (scene-stealing Jane Withers), a pint-sized tantrum-throwing terror who makes Linda Blair in The Exorcist look like a Teletubbie. A further parental advisory in these politically correct times: Joy's eagerly awaited comeuppance is a real slap in the face. --Donald Liebenson

Description

The first big film created especially for her, Bright Eyes helped make Shirley Temple a huge box-office star and features her most famous song: "On The Good Ship Lollipop".

The little darling of a group of aviators, Shirley splits her time between her pilot godfather Loop (James Dunn) and her long-suffering mother (Lois Wilson), housemaid for a selfish, wealthy family. When a tragic accident suddenly leaves Shirley orphaned, Loop sets out to adopt Shirley- until he learns he's not the only one determined to keep the adorable youngster.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEMPLE FILMS.......2007-03-26

This is an early Shirley that is hard to resist. The movies features Shirley singing "On the Good Ship Lolli Pop" and shows off her talents as a very young actress. There are only a hand full of her films that I will always remember and this is one of them. Heidi,Curly Top and The Little Colonel were the others. The DVD has both Black and White and Colorized version. I am not a fan of colorizing anything, but since they kept the original intact, I did enjoy watching both.

4 out of 5 stars Next generation of Shirley Temple watchers.......2006-11-06

My three-year old daughter was recently dancing around and someone told her she looked like Shirley Temple. Of course, she kept asking me who Shirley Temple was. I showed her photos on the internet and decided to get her "Bright Eyes" because I knew it had the song "On the Good Ship Lollipop." What's nice about this DVD is that you have the option of watching it in black and white or color. My daughter often asks to watch "the gray one"!!! It's a cute movie but obviously dated. But a good movie to introduce the young ones to Shirley Temple.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful trip back in time........2006-08-19

Shirly Temple started early in films and at age six was a box office sensation where even Santa Claus wanted her autograph. My wife's great grandmother stated that Shirley got her through the depression. I can believe it. Shirley is an idealistic child that finds her way through unbelievable odds without ever shedding a tear or even a pout. The plots are all the same. Shirley starts off with either being an orphan or will be one when her parents (or parent) inevidably dies in the film giving Shirley that sad crying scene. The death sequence is always after a peppy musical number where everything just seems great at the time. The rest of the film finds Shirley trapped with vial caretakers who find her worthless and a burden (sort of an Oliver Twist scenario). Naturally there is always someone there to rescue her from the cruelty that she endures and finds herself off into the sunset with a new father or mother who is as idealistic as one can be. Throughout Shirley endures and provides us with whimsical and lively facial expressions that will break your heart. You feel manipulated and don't care because Shirley is a master with the camera. Bright Eyes is one of her best and of course includes "The Good Ship" song that's in many ways her signature piece.

4 out of 5 stars One Of Shirley Temple's Best Early Films !.......2006-06-14

The year was 1934.America was wheeling from the devastation of the Great Depression and economic woes. Then came a young actress that helped bring movie patrons back to theatres and also helped an upcoming studio that nearly faced bankruptcy.Shirley Temple was just six years old when she made nearly eight feature films in 1934,but the most beloved and well made of those eight was her second Fox feature film "Bright Eyes" and it definitely shows!

"Bright Eyes" is the simple story of a young girl (Temple) who ends up becoming fascinated with her aviator stepdad pilot (James Dunn) and also facing the hardships of life such as death, adoption and her unquestionable future. Her life is combined with that of a rich family named the Smythe's and their bratty daughter (Jane Withers) and her stepdad's friends. But when tragedy strikes Shirley's mom,it brings her and her stepdad closer than ever.Directed by David Butler and featuring Temple's signature song "On The Good Ship Lollipop",and a standout hilarious performance by Withers,"Bright Eyes" is definitely at times sad,but hilarious, and enjoyable film that has a strong central story mixed with comedy and child-like mischief that will appeal to any family member and adults old or new.Recommended for all !

ABOUT THE DVD:
Originally released as part of a short-lived three movie collection of Temple's films to DVD in 2002,it's easy to see why this version is such a big improvement over the '02 release. This version has been digitally restored to its original black & white version with very few specks, dirt, and contrast boosting that plagued the earlier DVD version and also the main intrusion of this new DVD is a brand-new,digitally restored, and enhanced colorized version. The '02 release simply took a lousy-looking and poor color version done in the late '80's and the results were just poor and unnatural-looking compared to today's technology.Speaking of which, this new color version was produced by Legend Films as with previous new Temple DVD releases and the new technology brings out the film's color appeal than the previous incarnation.Purists will definitely stick to the original restored b&w and very little extras (hence the four star rating) round out the disc. All you get is an unrestored trailer for "Heidi" and a trailer for "Little Miss Broadway" which is missing its text and narration (note that the two same trailers both appear on most of the recent Fox Temple DVD's).Finally,Fox has put out a very decent and well-deserved presentation of one of Shirley's best-loved films and far superior to the version beforehand.Highly recommended for classic film buffs and fans alike !

4 out of 5 stars You will thank the filmmakers in 20 years........2007-09-16

This film spends almost as much time on the attendees as it does the artists, and that's the way it should be. The filmmakers make a point of noting that the whole deal about festivals such as these is that everyone gets to come together as one, a rare occurrence in Bush USA 2007 . The performances are inspired and there's a good cross section of varied kinds of groups here.

More than anything else, I think that this will be an excellent document of what the music scene was like in 200X.

Beautiful camera work, editing, and twirling redhead.

5 out of 5 stars Disagree with the lemmings.......2007-07-23

So wrong! This DVD is excellent. Sure it captures more than the performances from the likes of Arcade Fire (unbelievable), Red Hot Chili's (Californication done righteous), Pixies, Mars Volta, and much more...It reveals the audience side in short, concise, and poignant glimpses. The performances are uncut and excellent in both video and audio production. The reviewers must have crappy sound systems, too much mommy and daddy, and no life. This ensemble reflects Coachella as perfect as possible for a DVD. HighSierraBassPlayer Five Stars!!!

1 out of 5 stars Man does this suck.......2007-04-10

This was just painful. This scatters back and forth between clips of music, clips of interviews with the artists, clips of festival performers, and clips of the audience who are out to prove that they're there for everything but the music, and yet will tell you over and over again that they're there only for the music. You don't get enough of the music or performances to care about them. You don't get enough of the interviews with the artists to know if you care about anything that they're saying. And you get way too much of the audience, so you do know beyond any shadow of doubt that you don't care about them.

The highlight of the film, if there is one, is a back and forth montage between a member of Oasis and some idealistic performer I can't recall the name of. Our cynical little Gallagher brother drones on and on that the idea that music can change the world is dead, that it can't be done anymore, it's simply a dead idea of a bygone era. It's actually the greatest thing any member of Oasis has ever said in any forum, and probably the only true thing they've ever said. Anyway, the clip goes back and forth between his cynical view of music and the bright eyed ambition of an artist that still believes he can change the world, even if one person at a time. I have to think when he watches the movie, the humiliation is unreal. Of course, I have to think anyone that sees themselves on this film would be humiliated beyond words.

1 out of 5 stars Perry Farrell, why have you forsaken us?.......2006-07-12

... Heck, I'd settle for John Popper and the return of HORDEfest.

Sweet Jesus, there are not enough words in the English language to describe how painful this DVD is. Apparently produced by hyperactive 22 year olds drinking caseloads of Red Bull, this DVD pretty much encapsulates what is wrong with the empty TV of MTV. Pandering to the ADD crowd, the camera never lingers for more than 2.4 seconds on any one scene. What the hell, were they paying their camera guys by the minute? Performances are interspersed with spoken interviews and the camera occassionally focuses on a concertgoer who is singing along with the band onstage ('cause, man, you know... everyone was having so much fun!).

If you've ever been to a concert and felt embarrassed for having something in common with your fellow concertgoers, then you should definitely not watch this DVD. Callous youth have never seemed so vapid. It would be excusable if these kids were stoned or drunk or under SOME chemical influence while making so many stupid comments but I'm sorry to say that they appeared quite straightedge.

As other reviewers have noted, this is the crux of the issue. The DVD attempts to give the crowd their fifteen minutes of fame rather than focus on the music performances. (People, it's about you! You're all stars! You have the power to make a difference and you're young and beautiful and edgy and fun! Now go buy a $40 t-shirt and a $10 bottle of Smart Water!)

Note to the girl dancing onstage during the Belle and Sebastian performance: you should really sue the producers for raping you of your dignity.

3 out of 5 stars In the days of the box set,.......2006-06-10

Yeah it's got the mood there fella but really lacks the fullness I was looking for. A great video would have at least had 3 songs per performance. Morrissey's song was cut and that was dissapointing. I got the film to see that and it was like 2 min 25 seconds long. OK.

This video is really just a preview of what could have been and isn't. Rent. Don't buy.
