With its modest special effects, lean plot, and small cast of lesser stars, this 1951 thriller remains a sturdy blueprint for fusing horror and science fiction. The formula has been employed countless times since, fleshed out with more extensive and elaborate production values, and manned by higher profiled marquee names, but the results have yet to improve on The Thing from Another World, Howard Hawks's lone foray into sci-fi.
The story begins as military airmen are dispatched to a remote Arctic research station where scientists have detected the crash of a spacecraft. An effort to retrieve the saucer-shaped vehicle fails, but the team returns to the station with the frozen body of its sole occupant. When the extraterrestrial pilot is accidentally thawed, the crew, headed by a tough-talking pilot (Kenneth Tobey), grapples with a massive, chlorophyll-based humanoid (James Arness) thirsty for blood and in no mood for galactic diplomacy.
Hawks takes only a production credit for this low-budget exercise, but his filmmaking style transcends Christian Nyby's nominal direction: rapid-fire, overlapping dialogue, an ensemble of comrades whose professionalism is tempered by wisecracks, and unsentimental female characters (embodied by feisty romantic interest Margaret Sheridan) recall Hawks's signature works, while propelling the plot over any potential gaps in credibility. One of the 'Best of the Best'........2007-09-12
'The Thing' (from another world) will always be considered one of the finest sci-fi flicks ever produced. It's just too bad that it was not made in color, but black & white. But, then again, the 'purest' will always use that medium, as variations in 'contrast' and 'tone' are more readily apparent. The story line is 'plausible', the acting pretty good, the special effects VERY good, and the 'message' to the world...? The only question I would have with this film is: If the 'Thing' was so intelligent, why did 'it' regard another 'alien' life-form (humans) so inferior? I know that if I ever met a 'walking carrot or cabbage', I'd certainly would want to know more about it, and not just think of it as a part of my evening's meal salad! But, considering the era it was produced, it certainly is, and will remain, a classic motion picture. And of course, two of the actors 'continued' their careers, one BIG TIME; James Arness of 'Gunsmoke' fame. The other actor who 'popped up' a year or two later was 'Scotty', the newsman who appeared as 'The Monitor' in the Sci-fi classic 'This Island Earth'.

Most movie buffs nowadays argue about who really directed this movie. Who cares? He did a marvellous job, creating the first great alien invasion movie. Right from the famous opening with the radioactive titles, the sudden appearance of a figure lurching in the snow, the music,everything. The tight writing, close interaction of the cast (they never seem to be merely acting" and great black & white photography combine. Yes, the aircrew are too flip in the face of a monster invader, but it has allready been made clear that they have faced death many times before in air raids over Germany. Keneth Tobey is entirely believable as the captain responsible for his crews and everyone elses survival. And yes, I would fly to the north pole to meet Margaret Sheridan. Her character is allmost unique in sf, she doesn't screm once, and even assists the men in their fight. The only - is that there are no special features on the dvd, and there must be fantastic material out there to make one!

The Thing is one of the all-time great sci fi films. It's also one of the greatest horror films! Watch in awe of the fast-paced, overlapped dialogue that Howard Hawks made famous and that Steven Spielberg emulates. This is how real people talk--butting in, talking over each other, lots of people talking at the same time--not fake "movie talk" where everyone politely waits their turn to deliver an obviously memorized line. Though The Thing has Howard Hawks' fingerprints all over it, it is not actually directed by Howard Hawks, contrary to what many believe (he was the producer). The look and feel of this film is amazing. It's uncanny how well the film holds up, as well as how creepy it still is. I love the sounds the "Thing" makes: "I was shooting it and it just kept mewing like a cat!" Famous scenes from this film appear in both John Carpenter's Halloween (characters are watching it on TV) and in Rob Zombie's (horrendous) remake. Carpenter of course later remade The Thing, providing one of the best horror remakes in history (though the original is still much better). In this original the scene where they try to burn the "Thing" is one of the most effective in movie history. Carpenter tried to match it with his famous "blood testing" scene, which is also very creepy stuff. Incidentally, Carpenter's is a more faithful adaptation of the story the movie is based on (called "Who Goes There?"), which was also used in Horror Express starring horror greats Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as well as in an X Files episode. This film is a masterpiece all around and is as good as it gets folks. The characters are great and the banter and humor are flawless. Think Stalag 17 as horror/sci fi and you'll have an idea as to what the amazing quality of this production is. Watch and enjoy! This belongs in any self-respecting sci fi fan's collection right next to The Day the Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet.
Even Better In The Winter!.......2007-09-03
The only times I will watch this great flick is in Winter. And I try to pick a bitter cold day (or night), open a window or two, and keep the coffee flowing ("...anyone for some coffee?"). This plus the realistic,
overlapping dialogue that Mr Hawks is known for, only adds to the great viewing of this excellent film.

The DVD is of superb quality. An original theme at the time it was made, just a few years after the Roswell espisode, it's a great sci-fi horror movie. A truely historical post-war time piece that paved the way for many UFO and alien movies to come.

"Cannibal Holocaust" showed up in the mail this week and as I got into the movie I found myself wondering why this was in my queue, and then I remembered. In some online discussion regarding the relative merits of the torture-porn films that are presenting themselves as the cutting edge of contemporary horror cinema, there was a consensus of sorts among those who had seen "Cannibal Holocaust" that this was the film that would get you if you had never been gotten by a horror film. By that standard, this 1980 film delivers as promised. The advertisements for this film back then lauded it as the movie that goes all the way, and most viewers will agree that is indeed the case. For some that will be the gruesome deaths of some of the native women and for others it will be what happens to the turtle. What it probably will not be is the death of the faux documentary film crew, because what you see pretty much convinces you that they get what is coming to them.
Professor Harold Monroe (Robert Kerman) is persuaded to go to the jungles of the Amazon and lead the search for a missing documentary film crew that consists of director Alan Yates (Gabriel Yorke), his girlfriend and script girl Faye Daniels (Francesca Ciardi), and their friends cameramen Jack Anders (Perry Pirkanen) and Mark Tomaso (Luca Barbareschi). Monroe travels to the rainforest and in the first half of the film is eventually able to recover the equipment and footage taken by the missing team. The second half of the film takes place back in New York City where the Pan American Broadcast Company wants Monroe to host the broadcast of the found footage. However, Monroe insists on seeing all of the footage first and is informed that Yates and his crew were award-winning documentarians who often staged their most exciting footage. In that context we see both the footage the network wants to air and that which they did not want Monroe to see. The footage proves to be shockingly graphic and reveals not only what happened to Yates and the others, but why.
Yes, I can appreciate that the people who came up with "The Blair Witch Project" probably saw this film. You do have the whole bit about a documentary film crew disappearing and finding the film that reveals what happens to them, but in the end "Blair Witch" proved to be almost a shaggy dog story, because you never really see anything, and that is most certainly not the case with "Cannibal Holocaust." What gave "Blair Witch" its power was that it was constantly giving the audience cinematic clues that something was about to happen, without getting to that moment. Essentially the audience is as taunt as can be for over an hour while watching that film. "Cannibal Holocaust" gives you amply opportunity to lose your lunch, and the film of recent vintage that I was remind of more was "Vacancy," specifically the snuff films that we see on the videos on the television (and which are a bonus feature on the DVD). Both have the same grainy, cinema veritie quality, and both produce disquiet because of their style as well as their substance.
I know that I came across this film because it was mentioned as being superior to "Hostel," "Wolf Creek," and other torture-porn films, but clearly it is more of an exploitation film than a horror film. I am also old enough to remember "Mondo Cane," which they actually showed us in high school, and clearly "Cannibal Holocaust" is in that tradition. It has been three decades since I saw "Mondo Cane" and I still remember the guy with the machete decapitating the bull, people eating insects, and the Oscar nominated song "More." However, nothing in that film compares to what happens when the "documentarians" drag a turtle from the river in the scene that could make you eject the film from your DVD player before it is even half over. This becomes the most disquieting scene in the film because it is totally real. What happens to the human beings in this film might look real, and Ruggero Deodato was actually accused of making a snuff film (he made his actors sign contracts to "disappear" for a year to maintain the illusion they were real people who were killed and not just actors), but it is all faked, albeit in an extremely effective manner.
While I am convinced "Cannibal Holocaust" is rightfully considered an exploitation film rather than a horror film, the harder question to graphic with is whether it should also be considered social commentary. The documentary film crew goes to the Amazon rainforests to show the barbarity of these cannibal tribes, but it is the Americans who are revealed to be the monsters. Is this social criticism or a convenient excuse for all the blood and gore? After all, when Monroe goes to South America he sees evidence of how brutal the natives can be when he sees a man punishing to death is wife for adultery. It is telling that what happens to Yates and the others does not bother us as much as the atrocities these supposedly civilized people inflict on the "cannibals." The conclusion of the film ultimately convinces me that the social criticism aspects are just to allow Deodato to get away with the blood and gore. This film might be in a class by itself as an exploitation film, but that is what it is in the end, and by that standard it belongs on the dubious A-list that exists for such movies.
"Cannibal Holocaust" is an unforgettable film, which might be why some of you will never want to see it, and hopefully those of you who need to be warned have been. This 2-disc DVD certainly tries to defend, if not explain, its place in the history of exploitation cinema. There is a commentary track and a different on camera commentary version of the film, so you can just listen to Deodato or you can watch him watch the film and listen to him. There is an Animal Cruelty-Free Version of the film that you can see, but while I can understand wanting to refrain from seeing the turtle scene ever again, it is, of course, impossible to judge "Cannibal Holocaust" on its own terms if you see an edited version (even if the deletions reflect the regrets of the director and others for having included them in the first place). The shooting script is also available as a DVD-Rom extra so that you can see how much "worse the film could have been." "Inside the Green Inferno" continues the conceit with title card the biographies of the filmmakers, the search team, the three cannibal tribes, and an alternative version of "Last Road to Hell," the film-within-the-film viewed by Professor Monroe before he goes off in search of the lost documentarians.
Overhyped, Cruel BORING.......2007-09-01
Even if you cut the sadistic and immoral animal kill/torture scenes from this turkey, this video would be unwatchable for several reasons. The premise is weak, actors subpar, the soundtrack sounds more 1950's than 1970's.Worse, there is very lttle suspense, it's basic filler material of a group traveling through the rain forest and the "meat" in this malnourishing stew are a few scenes of gore, some with real and live animals.
I love my prime rib rare. I don't care about how Mr.Chicken makes his way into my frying pan. However I don't appreciate cowards killing helpless creatures as a substitute for good gore FX or suspenseful filmmaking.
Makes any other horror movie look like Barney..........2007-08-28
Let me just say this. This movie goes over the limits of any horror movie i've ever seen, and then some. The realism of this film is terrifying, the aspect is disturbing, and the special effects are great. At some points in the movie, you think it's very interesting, and at other points you try to find out why on earth your watching it. This film is also very draining, which I found very unique for a horror movie. After you watch this, the images of it stick in your mind. You basically feel like your mind was raped. This film is DEFINATELY NOT for the weak at heart. I have a very strong stomach when it comes to horror movies, and this even made me squirm. From animal cruelty, to rape, to forced abortion, this film's every aspect will have a great effect on your mind. Forget what you ever thought about films. This may be the first horror movie to ACTUALLY go over the limits. Enjoy it, if you dare to watch it, and let the nightmarish thoughts kick in...
Warning on what to expect. - **Defense of The Blair Witch Project**.......2007-08-16
I've heard a lot about this movie over the years and tonight I saw it for the first time. It is not an enjoyable horror film at all and I will probably never watch it again, the graphic disturbing images and sequences stick with the person long after viewing it. Now, this could be taken as a compliment being were talking about horror film.
If your into horror and heard of this and are on the fence about seeing it let me give you a heads up of what you'll see. Brutal, humiliating, and degrading rape scenes filmed at length.
Killing of animals again filmed at length one of a large turtle who's little legs flap around as he is mutilated and killed in an exploitive way. Perry Pirkanen cried after filming the infamous turtle scene, which is kind of comforting. A cute monkey has the top of his head cut off and then the natives drink it's brains, another starts eating its face in a corner which we get a close up of. Originally, Deodato had a fake monkey head with fake brains in it to have the natives eat instead of actually killing and eating a monkey. The natives talked him out of it, however, as monkey brains were a delicacy to them. Also there were two takes needed so two monkeys were killed. That's just nameing a couple of the animals killed.
I am not a hypocrite and I do eat meat and in the same situation in the woods to survive I would kill an animal. I also realize there are a lot more disturbing things in the world like the war in Iraq and other such things, and I'm not a member of Peta. However this is a film, so real animals did not need to be killed and in such brutal ways. The turtle scene made me sick.
There is another scene where a baby fetus is basically ripped from this natives womb as she is standing, then bloody baby umbilical cord and all are tossed in a muddy hole and dirt is kicked over it.
The Internet Movie Database trivia says "Though uncaring towards the nature of his film during shooting, Ruggero Deodato now regrets everything he did, mostly the actual animal killings. He said once that he wishes now that he never made the movie." I believe my point is made if the director himself wishes he hadn't done this.
The movie is trying to say something and has a message if it wasn't and there was no message then I'd hate this film and find it pointless. It is said that Deodato was inspired to make the movie after seeing his son watching the violent news on TV, and thinking about how the journalists focus on the violence. I'd agree the news is violent and that statement rings true today as it did when the film was made and probably every decade before and since. Another film that tackled the media was Network (Two-Disc Special Edition) by the great Sidney Lumet which is on Afi's top 100 films of all time and has reached much more audiences to get it's point across, so I'd say more effective.
As for the Blair Witch Project yes in both movies filmmakers go into a wooded area that never come out and there footage was found. However they have totally different plots. Cannibal Holocaust uses horrible images to make the viewer sick whereas The Blair Witch Project leaves it up to your imagination, both are effective. However I would say what you don't see is almost always scarier, leaving it to your imagination. Although with Cannibal Holocaust I don't really see your imagination making it anymore brutal. This movie to me was more disgusting, disturbing and brutal, then scary.
Also what horror film hasn't in some way consciously or subconsciously been influenced by others. Nearly any movie you point out, you could think of something that had that in it or was influenced in some way by another film. I mean it's a compliment to call a film Hitchockian.
The movie is well made and the transfer looked really good also the sound and the score were very effective.
If someone asked me to recommend something disturbing or disgusting and something that pushes the envelope, as i did, then this would be the film. If you want to be shocked or are a huge fan of gore and like being grossed out, or a fan of slowing down when there is an accident on the other side of the highway (which i'm not) to get a glimpse of carnage this is for you. However, I'm not insinuating that everyone who likes this would enjoy seeing a car crash.
I debated on what to give this movie for a rating and tried to be biased. I didn't enjoy this film however the genre is called horror and this is a horrifying movie. However if you witnessed a surveillance camera catching a robbery where the thieves brutally kill and dismember the store clerk, that's not exactly great film making, yet it's still horror.
This is a hard film to review and doing this right after watching something like this is even harder.
Most disturbing movie I've ever seen. .......2007-08-03
I recently purchased this movie based off of the rave and disturbing reviews I heard about it. Having liked disgusting horror movies in the past I thought I'd give this one a try to test my mettle. I had heard about the animal killings and rape scenes and nudity galore, so I figuerd what the heck. This movie, by far was the most disturbing film I've witnessed. I have a very strong stomach, but even I found myself becoming sick when watching the "turtle" scene.
The rape scenes are rather outrageous and a little too long for my liking(any amount of raping in movies disturbs me, but this was asinine). The countless bashings in the head and dimemberments were nicely done and were what I was expecting all along. But nevertheless, the animal killings will get to you the most, especially if you love the little critters like I do. Rightfully so, I believe the crew that went filming this "documentary" got what they had coming to them. With their torturing of the animals and the tribes' people,I kind of enjoyed watching these sick pukes get what they deserved. What goes around comes around, I suppose.
While this movie did disturb me, I can't help thinking what possesed me to buy it in the first place. I guess I just wanted to see what a true "shockumentary" looked like, and I definitely got it with the film. This flick and the revolting scenes of torture, killings, cannibalism, and animal cruelty will fry your senses. Not for the faint of heart or queazy, this film will stay embedded in your brain for quite some time. I'm nervous to bring this home to my wife once I return from Iraq. She would probably throw up all over me if I made her view it. Maybe it's best if I just sell it to the next private or sergeant coming in. LOL.
I gave this movie 4 stars opposed to five as I found the acting very laughable and cheesy, as well as the voice-overs to be quite bad at times. But that is expected in a film such as this. The gory parts are suprisingly realistic and very well done for that time period. No CGI, so kudos on that to the filmmakers. Overall, you get what you pay for-a sick, twisted, haunting depiction of cannibalism and torture, mixed in with rape and animal cruelty scenes aplenty. If you want a film that will stick with you and make your skin crawl for weeks and weeks to come, this is your scene. Pleasantly disturbing, but one viewing is enough for me. Enjoy.

Recorded on a single night in June 2000, In the Flesh: Live is a thrilling live testament to the strength of Roger Waters's peculiar artistic vision. (See the lavish but impersonal Pulse for a healthy dose of Gilmour's Floyd.) The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix is massive, presenting both the music's inherent spaciousness and the favorable acoustics in Portland, Oregon's Rose Garden Arena. The DVD's 18-minute documentary is long on downtime and short on musical interplay. Stunning.......2007-07-27
This is easily one of the most spectacular, most thoroughly entertaining concert videos I've ever seen. I enjoyed Pink Floyd's "Pulse" concert (which finally made it to DVD recently) but I have to admit that Roger Waters put together a band that is not only every bit as good as Pink Floyd but in some ways surpasses it. The treatments of venerable classics like "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" and "Money" are livelier and bluesier than David Gilmour's more formal, true-to-the-studio versions. The three female vocalists are stunning: I never liked "Mother" that much until I heard the soloist perform here, proving once again that it's the singer, not the song. The guitar heroics are absolutely spectacular and there's real chemistry among the band members.
I know nothing about the bitter feud between Roger Waters and his former band, and it hardly matters to me, but if playing well is the best revenge, Waters triumphs here. The band is clearly having a good time and has worked hard, and the concert is as engrossing as a suspense novel. If you're even a casual fan of the Waters/Pink Floyd musical style, you'll want to see this show.

When I bought this DVD I didn't really know what to expect from Waters, being more of a David Gilmour fan I was a bit skeptical, but totally blown away nonetheless. This is a must have for anyone who loves the late seventies/early eighties Floyd. I hate to admit this, but I actually enjoyed it even more than PULSE.

Being a fan of Pink Floyd's music in the early 80's, this DVD was a real treat! For the first time, seeing Roger Waters singled out was a real eye opener for me. I had only really thought of Pink Floyd as a sum of its parts; not as unique musicians coming together to be a part of something very special.
Seeing Roger on stage, behind the scenes and interacting with his fellow band mates made everything seem more "real", better understood.
I whole-heartedly recommend this DVD for those who are only even partially interested in Pink Floyd's music. The sound quality is unbelieveable and the video quality is at least as good.

Waters the Pink Floyd's Soul & Brain comes back with this amazing concert, a real masterpiece, the only sad thing is that is not a DTS sound in the DVD but that's not a impediment to enjoy it.

Despite the usual symptoms of sequelitis, Jeepers Creepers 2 delivers the goods for those who enjoyed the 2001 original--a group large enough to propel this sequel to a record-setting opening in August 2003. While establishing the flesh-eating "Creeper" as a new horror icon with frantic action and more elaborate special effects, writer-director Victor Salva follows the traditional formula, dispensing with plot almost altogether and focusing entirely on threat, menace, mayhem, and gore. That's likely to disappoint horror fans hoping for a more revealing exploration of the Creeper's origins (room for another sequel, perhaps?), and by trapping nondescript teens in a school bus attacked by the Creeper, Salva severely limits the movie's overall potential. After a nice first film this series has died very quickly after this complete waste of time and money. The whole thing is really very flat and unwatchable

After watching the original Jeepers Creepers and knowing the potential it could have had, I decided to watch the second movie in hopes that the previous movie's mistakes would be corrected. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
So what's this movie about? A group of kids are on a bus presumably coming from or going to a sports function. The bus gets a flat tire and that's when the chaos begins. Ultimately, they learn that there's a monster outside the bus and he's carefully choosing which kids to take. And once he has chosen his prey, there's no stopping him. The rest of the movie has the kids finding a way to survive.
Let's talk about the positives first. First, if you're the type of person that thinks "monsters" are scary (I'm not one of those people), I'd say that the monster in Jeepers Creepers is fairly "scary" looking. Second, although the storyline is nothing special, the fact that the kids can do nothing to prevent their death once the monster chooses them is rather creepy and in some ways it aids the movement of the movie in general.
And now for the negatives. Without giving too much away, after the bus scene is over, the movie goes downhill. There's no buildup/climax. The supposed "scary" parts of the film did nothing to instill fear in me. Rather, I was completely bored and waiting for something, ANYTHING that would potentially spice up the movie a bit. To make matters worse, the vulnerable, yet appetizing characters that are so typical in scary movies make me want to vomit. There's only so much I can take with the complete overuse of profanity and sexual innuendo. The only thing this did was make me dislike the characters and scream at the screen "Just kill them already!"
If you liked the first Jeepers Creepers, you might like the second movie. If you didn't like the first one, I'd star far, far away from Jeepers Creepers 2.

Acceptable sequel that hasn't learnt from the originals flaws........2007-02-16
I was quite excited to hear that "Jeepers Creepers" was getting the sequel treatment. The Creeper is a great character and deserves to get some more screen time, and while the first one certainly had its flaws, it was entertaining throughout, particularly during the first half. I was even more eager when I found out Victor Salva was directing once again, yet none of the original cast (apart from a cameo from Darry) took part this time round. Now that I've seen "Jeepers Creepers II" a couple of times, I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed. There's no doubt that Victor Salva knows how to shoot some intensely gripping scenes, but he hasn't learnt from any of the mistakes he made the first time round.
Once again, the movie starts off well enough. The opening scene is filmed really well and gives us a very good idea why Jack Taggart (played by the ever dependable Ray Wise) dedicates the rest of his life to bringing down The Creeper. From here we move to a bus carrying a gridiron team as they make their way home from the state championships. And that's where we stay for pretty much the next hour and a bit. The football team is filled with clichés. Tough guys, bimbo cheerleaders, racial tensions etc. etc. The movie becomes as much about the real-life bonding of the team for survival as it is about The Creeper's unstoppable killing resolve.
The best parts of "Jeepers Creepers 2" all involve The Creeper being on screen. He looks fantastically horrific and takes out victims quickly and efficiently. When he's there, things are exciting and unpredictable. But when he's not on screen, things drag out, with the constant bickering between characters and clunky dialogue really testing patience. But my biggest gripes are the same as they were in the first film. While The Creeper doesn't whistle the theme song this time round, the scene where he winks at intended victims and licks his lips just doesn't sit well with me. There's always this underlying sense of humour that I feel this series could do without. And then there's the psychic cheerleader! The psychic woman in Jeepers Creepers pushed the realms of cheap storytelling, but the cheerleader scenario crosses the line. One minute she's a normal, everyday cheerleader and the next she's a psychic that knows everything there is to know about The Creeper, his history and his purpose. Surely the writers could come up with a more realistic device for getting the story across.
Flaws aside, "Jeepers Creepers II" is an ok sequel. It's not as good as the first film but then not many sequels are, particularly in this genre. Some of the set pieces are enjoyable and worthwhile, but I still feel there's a better movie to be made with the story and The Creeper. In the meantime, this is acceptable, if not essential viewing.

If you are a fan of the first Jeepers Creepers then this movie won't disappoint you at all. The special effects have improved as well as the look of Creepers too. The story is pretty cool and once again Jonathan Breck pulls off the part of "Creepers" playing him as a highly intelligent gargoyle that has a sense of humor!
Anyone that doesn't understand these movies or doesn't appreciate them for what they are is over-analyzing them. I give this movie 5 stars - it was totally entertaining!

We can hardly imagine how shocking this film was when it first broke into the film scene in 1968. There's never been anything quite like it again, though there have been numerous pale imitations. Part of the terror lies in the fact that it is shot in such a raw and unadorned fashion that it feels like a home movie, and is all the more authentic because of that. It draws us into its world gradually, content to establish a merely spooky atmosphere before leading us through a horrifically logical progression that we hardly could have anticipated. The story is simple: Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and hunger for human flesh. Once bitten, you become one of them. And the only way to kill one is by a shot or blow to the head. We follow a group holed up in a small farmhouse who are trying to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead. The tension between the members of this unstable, makeshift community drives the film. Night of the Living Dead establishes savagery as a necessary condition of life. Okay sorry, I'm jacking around with this review, but I assure you this movie is no joke. It does have a level of humor, ("they're coming for you Barbara!") but it's a far cry from Shaun of the Dead. It shows some extremely brutal scenes, zombies devouring human flesh and a young girl zombie getting crazy with a shovel. The ending is also a disturbing suprise, especially for a film made in "68.
My horror collection feels more respectable now that I've added this to it! The gorehound led me to gory glory.

This is the movie that turned me into an obssesed horror fan. My friend told me about it and let me borrow it and I had no idea this movie would effect me the way it did. Ever since Iv'e been trying to get my hands on any old/underground horror flick I could find. At the beginning of the movie I was thinking "oh god,this is going to suck" and by the end I was convinced that this was one of the best horror films ever made.(*Spoilers*)The idea of somebody making a movie where a little girl eats her mother in 1968 was unbelievable to me. The extremely ironic ending was the icing on the cake and IMO is one of the best endings in horror history. My favorite in the "dead" trilogy by far.
When I first seen this colored version on Amazon I thought it was a disgrace(this movie is made to be watched in B&W and should be watched that way for the first time)but when I realized it contained both versions I had to have it. The commentary is pretty annoying and very insulting to fans of the movie(its done by the guy from "mystery science theater" and he doesn't take the movie seriously at all,it really pisses me off)but if your a fan of the movie and always thought "I wonder what color barbara's shirt is,what color is the car" ect.,ect. I highly recommend this version. If you've never seen this movie I still recommend this version but WATCH THE B&W VERSION FIRST, I repeat WATCH THE B&W VERSION FIRST, its the way it was meant to be seen for the first time.

Okay sorry, I'm jacking around with this review, but I assure you this movie is no joke. It does have a level of humor, ("they're coming for you Barbara!") but it's a far cry from Shaun of the Dead. It shows some extremely brutal scenes, zombies devouring human flesh and a young girl zombie getting crazy with a shovel. The ending is also a disturbing suprise, especially for a film made in "68.
My horror collection feels more respectable now that I've added this to it! The gorehound led me to gory glory.
The one ,the only........2007-07-14
This is the movie that turned me into an obssesed horror fan. My friend told me about it and let me borrow it and I had no idea this movie would effect me the way it did. Ever since Iv'e been trying to get my hands on any old/underground horror flick I could find. At the beginning of the movie I was thinking "oh god,this is going to suck" and by the end I was convinced that this was one of the best horror films ever made.(*Spoilers*)The idea of somebody making a movie where a little girl eats her mother in 1968 was unbelievable to me. The extremely ironic ending was the icing on the cake and IMO is one of the best endings in horror history. My favorite in the "dead" trilogy by far.
When I first seen this colored version on Amazon I thought it was a disgrace(this movie is made to be watched in B&W and should be watched that way for the first time)but when I realized it contained both versions I had to have it. The commentary is pretty annoying and very insulting to fans of the movie(its done by the guy from "mystery science theater" and he doesn't take the movie seriously at all,it really pisses me off)but if your a fan of the movie and always thought "I wonder what color barbara's shirt is,what color is the car" ect.,ect. I highly recommend this version. If you've never seen this movie I still recommend this version but WATCH THE B&W VERSION FIRST, I repeat WATCH THE B&W VERSION FIRST, its the way it was meant to be seen for the first time.

Christopher Lambert, with white hair and a full-length leather duster, looks a little bored, but he's still his competent brooding action-hero self. Ok, where to start with this piece of junk. Christopher Lambert sleep-walks through his scenes and the other actors take their queue from him. The soundtrack his pure heavy metal with no real link to the scenes. The set is minimalist to say the least - pipes and natural gas flames do not make a set. Writing was atrocious, directing was even worse if that is possible.
This movie is just one more reason that Hollywood should not be allowed to touch a classic written story. Read the classic Anglo-Saxon story, but don't get this movie. Avoid at all cost.

Christopher Lambert hasn't done a good movie since the original Highlander movie. This movie is lame. Bad acting, bad special effect, bad diologue. Yep, must be a Christopher Lambert film. If you want to see a good movie based off the Beowulf legend, watch "THE 13th WARRIOR."
Poem to Screen........2006-09-19
a motion picture based on the classic saxon poem. christofer labert is beowulf, a lone warrior contracted to kill a demon feeding on lone outpost under siege. i was realy suprised to see how well this independant film did, its one of my favorites. spending most of its money on casting Lambert. this films special effects are mostly makeup with a small FX scene. it was very good on keeping the story and also remaking it into a film. i was very happy when it was released in the US on dvd. i first saw it at a rental store in england. its fun film, so go check it out.

Bad special effects. Lambert looked bored at times. The plot has a few holes. Too much cleavage. Bad fight scenes. Beowulf can do multiple black flips and spin in the air and yet the monsters can still hit him! The fact that Grendel's mother is pregnant doesn't really play into the movie, but they keep bringing it up. It is not the worst movie I have ever seen and I pretty much got what I expected so I'm not completely trashing it. The weapons were cool.

We can hardly imagine how shocking this film was when it first broke into the film scene in 1968. There's never been anything quite like it again, though there have been numerous pale imitations. Part of the terror lies in the fact that it is shot in such a raw and unadorned fashion that it feels like a home movie, and is all the more authentic because of that. Bellocchio refers to this as a mainly political movie, a description of the revolutionary movement in Italy, but that seems more metaphor than reality. Well, almost everything in the movie seems like metaphor. The revolutionaries, of whom we see and about whom we learn very little, might as well be mafiosi. Out with the old and in with the new.
Andrea's Papa, a psychoanalyst, seems to stand for the usual traditional bourgeois values -- morally upright, unperturbed, clean and tidy, thoroughly ritualized.
Giullia, the girlfriend of a revolutionary, seems to represent what can happen to someone who needs very badly a cause to support but is unable to muster up the kind of devotion such a commitment demands. (I'm guessing here.) Andrea, the adolescent boy, seems to be the only guy in the movie who is not in some unquiet way "upatz." He's respectful of his father but disobedient too. He loves Giullia, or
