Weirdly marketed as a right-wing screed upon its initial release in 1973, Walking Tall is really a tragic, shockingly violent post-noir film based on various legends surrounding real-life Southern sheriff Buford Pusser. Joe Don Baker (The Natural) gives a powerful performance as Pusser, who took on determined forces of crime and corruption in his town at great personal expense. Directed with an intentionally crude force by Phil Karlson (Kansas City Confidential), one of the toughest filmmakers of the 1950s, the film's grimness does not let up, but in the end it is more likely to break hearts than turn stomachs. --Tom Keogh

3 out of 5 stars The Best of the Redneck Roughies.......2007-07-27

Back in the early to mid 70's, there was a genre in film known as Redneck Roughies. Low budget films taking place in the South consisting of car chases, fist fights, coarse language and even a boob shot here and there. Films like Max Baer's (yes, that's Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies!)"Macon County Line", Roger Corman's "Jackson County Jail" among others fell into this genre.

But the undesputed king of these Roughies was Walking Tall. Very loosely based on the exploits of real life Alabama sheriff Buford Pusser, the story tells of a one man battle against corruption. Joe Don Baker gives a career-making (although one note) performance as the club wielding lawman ready to bash heads of anyone who gets in the way.

First he gets sliced up at a casino and lives, later he's shot in the face and lives, then he's shot all over the place by machine guns and still lives! Rasputin eat your heart out! Got to be a special kind of lawman to endure that! The film has it's share of grisly violence but no sex, just a few boob shots.

The film was a box-office sensation raking in about $17 million and made on a shoestring budget. All in all it's a good action fair but certainly no family pic. If you're into some good gritty Redneck films, this is one to see.

3 out of 5 stars GOOD SEMI TRUE MOVIE.......2007-03-23

I live in the same area where this story took place & most of the people here that knew pusser tell a much different story of what really happened than these movies . Still they are very good action movies !

5 out of 5 stars A True Story Turned into A Great Movie.......2007-01-30

This movie was the true story of the life of Buford Pusser who was a
nobody who run for sheriff against Al Thurman the current sheriff and
won. Joe Don Baker plays the role of Sheriff Buford Pusser, Elizabeth
Hartman plays the role of his wife Pauline Pusser and Gene Evans plays
the role of Sheriff Al Thurman. When Pussor is beaten to with in an
inch in his life that's when he decides to run for Sheriff. Pussor did
things different then Sheriff Thurman and the biggest thing was that he
didn't have a ***. When Pussor starts to clean up the town the mob gets
very upset and tries to get even with the sheriff. Does the mob go to
far in their effort to stop the sheriff from interfering in their own
personal business.

3 out of 5 stars Not My Cup of Tea.......2007-01-07

This movie was a little too graphic for my taste. Joe Don Baker moves to a small town and it doesn't take long for him to get into trouble. He participates in a bar fight and some thugs slice him open. Somehow he survives the attack, but he doesn't let anything slide. He campaigns to become the new sheriff and sure enough, it happens.

Baker busts a team of folks for making some surprisingly dangerous moonshine, and does bunch of other sheriff-type stuff. But there are way more bad guys in the town than we realize, and he gets shot point blank after falling for one of their traps. Once again, it's back to the hospital where he miraculously survives, again. His pursuit of criminals becomes even more aggressive, and he shoots a crooked lady at Christmas time.

I guess you can see where this is going. People keep sending Joe Don Baker to the hospital but he just keeps coming back. The movie gets more and more violent during this progression, and I was more depressed than inspired.

If you want a lighter Joe Don Baker movie, you can always watch his infamous performance as Mitchell, the policeman with no last name.

It frightens me that this was based on a true story. While it may not be my cup of tea, the public needs to know if stuff like this is actually happening.

4 out of 5 stars A All Time Classic.......2006-12-29

One of my top favorite movie's of all time. Many classic lines. Joe Don Bakers finest role. Holleywood always takes some liberties, but this film is brutal and realistic from what I've read. Even macho's will be wiping the eyes before the movie ends.

Legendary director/dancer/choreographer Bob Fosse may have been a consummate entertainer, responsible for popular productions on the Broadway stage, but he was also an uncompromising filmmaker who wasn't afraid to explore the dark side of humanity. After the autobiographical intensity of All That Jazz, Fosse's final film was this honest and painfully authentic biography about Dorothy Stratten, who was Playboy's Playmate of the Year for 1979 and had just begun a promising film career when her jealous boyfriend took a shotgun to her head. Fosse tackles this brutal reality head on, opening the film with the aftermath of murder and telling the story in flashback, beginning in Vancouver when slick charmer Paul Snider (Eric Roberts, in a chilling performance) discovers Dorothy (Mariel Hemingway) and makes her his ticket to fame and unearned glory. He's a loser and a user, and when Dorothy rises to success and glamour at the Playboy mansion, Hugh Hefner (Cliff Robertson, perfectly cast) urges the blonde beauty to drop her troublesome boyfriend. Jealousy and rejection push Paul over the edge, but Star 80 (the title is taken from Snider's vanity license plates) is no simple tale of male ego gone bad. Fosse explores the chasm between fame and obscurity, and the self-destructive lengths to which some people will go to bridge that gap. The film is a darker telling of the kind of story Boogie Nights would tell nearly 15 years later--both films are set in the late '70s and early '80s, and both deal with the inevitable loss of innocence in a world where innocence cannot survive. In a bleak but fascinating way, Star 80 is masterful in its refusal to look away from the tragedy of its true story. It's a farewell statement from a director who clearly understood the high cost of stardom. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Prepare to be transported to a life of glitter and brutality at the start of the 1980's.......2007-04-19

Director Bob Fosse made Star 80 in 1983, just over two years after the brutal murder of 1980 Playmate of the Year Dorothy Stratten at the hands of her husband/manager/wannabe-pimp Paul Sinder. The film is a gritty look at a beautiful tragedy. Modern viewers will be transported back two decades to the styles, colors, and attitudes of the late 1970's.

Stratten was a star for one short year. She was Playboy's Miss August for 1979, Playmate of the Year for 1980, enjoyed a brief acting career, and then had her life cut short by her obsessively jealous and controlling husband in August 1980. Paul Snider took the Diary Queen waitress from Vancouver, British Columbia to Hollywood to start her modeling career and worm his way into the Playboy Mansion. As Stratten's star grew brighter, Snider became more controlling, and his fits often interrupted her modeling and acting work. He was banned from sets, and after Stratten escaped to New York to film a movie by Peter Bogdanovich, she began an affair with the director and left Snider.

The film is told in flashback, opening with a blood-covered Snider talking aloud to an absent Stratten as he destroys pictures of his former wife. The viewer has no illusions about the outcome of the film and the vicious end to the life of a young starlet. On an interesting side note (not included in the film), Bogdanovich married Stratten's younger sister Louise after Dorothy was murdered.

I REALLY ENJOY WATCHING THIS MOVIE OVER AND OVER.I BELIEVE IT TO BE A POIGNANTLY WRITTEN SEMI-BIOGRAPHY OF A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY WHO BLESSED THOSE SHE MET WITH HER GRACE AND CHARM. MARIEL HEMINGWAY SHINES BRIGHTLY WITH HER PORTRAYAL OF DOROTHY STRATTEN FROM A NAIVE TEENAGER TO A GORGEOUS YOUNG ACTRESS READY TO START HER JOURNEY THROUGH 1980'S HOLLYWOOD. ERIC ROBERTS DOES SOME SHINING OF HIS OWN AS PAUL SNIDER DOROTHY'S AMBITIOUS, SOMEWHAT LECHEROUS HUSBAND. BEING A CHILD OF THE '70S & '80S I ALSO ENJOY THE SOUNDTRACK AND SOME OF THE COSTUMES. THIS IS CERTAINLY A FILM THAT MY FAMILY AND I WILL BE ENJOYING FOR YEARS TO COME.

5 out of 5 stars The Centerfold, the Pimp and the Pornographer.......2006-09-05

When I got married in Las Vegas in 1999, I chose the Silver Bell Wedding Chapel on the Strip because it offered a fun Elvis wedding. In the lobby were photos of famous people who'd also got married there (Rodney Dangerfield, sports figures) and next to the front door was a large photo of Dorothy Stratten standing outside the Silver Bell. All smiles, gorgeous, alone.
When I asked about the photo, I was told, "Yes, she got married here. Such a beautiful girl...we refuse to hang any photos of him."
The "him" whose name was never mentioned was Paul Snider, the man she married that day. He was also the monster who blew her head off with a shotgun and raped her dead body before killing himself in the summer of 1980.

STAR 80 is the unflinching movie about the life and horrible death of Dorothy Stratten. It's written and directed by Bob Fosse (he'd turned the same dazzling but bleak eye on his own life in 1979's ALL THAT JAZZ) and it feels at time exactly like a documentary. I believe the source material was a Village Voice article by Teresa Carpenter called "Life & Death of a Centerfold."

Mariel Hemingway has always been a competent actress but I didn't feel that she was beautiful enough to be Dorothy Stratten. I hate to say that. To be fair, I'm not sure any woman could've done Dorothy justice. If you've never seen her, do a web search or something. She really was one of the most naturally magnificent examples of beauty I've ever seen. I used to look at her pictorials and marvel at every curve on the woman.
I know Ms. Hemingway had a breast enhancement prior to the role--but I kept thinking of the real thing(s) and it (they) were distracting. Sorry. Everything about her--eyes, lips, hips, legs, everything--looked like finely-crafted perfection.

I don't remember if Eric Roberts was nominated for anything, but he definitely deserved some award for committing to film the most realistic depiction of a complete and utter scumbag up to that point. That Fosse could include scenes that even made Snider somewhat sympathetic--how far would you go to find fame?--makes the movie that much more powerful and even numbing.

Much was made at the time of the perfect casting of Cliff Robertson as Hugh M. Hefner. Robertson had been involved in a huge money scandal at Columbia Pictures and offers for roles quickly dried up for a while until Fosse cast him as Hef. A great move as well as a brave one. (Robertson went on to work more, most recently as Spider-man's Uncle Ben in that blockbuster franchise).
Plus, he's a great Hef.

Look fast for a young Keenen Ivory Wayans as a young comic and Liz Sheridan as a makeup girl (she went on to play Jerry Seinfeld's mom on "Seinfeld" and she's also claimed to be one of James Dean's lovers!).

This is a much better film than BOOGIE NIGHTS and WONDERLAND (both of those were based on the sordid life of John Holmes, a biography still waiting for a honest treatment as far as I'm concerned). Check it out.

By the way, the Silver Bell Wedding Chapel burned to the ground a couple of years ago. I don't know if the picture of Dorothy Stratten went with it.

5 out of 5 stars An unnerving, haunting film.....Eric Roberts gives a devastating performance..........2006-08-01

I went to see this film in the theatre literally a dozen times and over 20+ years I've watched it on VHS/DVD probably two dozen more times. With the exception of the films of James Dean and David Cronenberg's "Dead Ringers", I don't believe I've obsessed over any other films to the degree that I did with "Star 80". Admittedly, the film's subject matter is an awful thing to become fixated by, but it's haunting power and the terrible beauty of Eric Roberts' performance was & is a pretty potent combination. I remember being quite shaken and virtually unable to speak coming out of the movie theatre the first time I saw it. I spent the next several weeks chasing it all over central PA, from theatre to theatre, and dragging along anyone I could find to go with me.

Mariel Hemingway brings a spooky stillness to her portrayal of Dorothy Stratten, almost like a celluloid lullaby....which turns, contrary to Dorothy's best efforts, into her worst nightmare by the time the thing is over. She's almost too gentle & innocent and it's painful to watch the film knowing the gruesome ending to Dorothy Stratten's life. A unique, career-defining performance. The combination of Ms. Hemingway's performance and the flawless, sensitive direction of Bob Fosse give the film it's cushiony, dream-like layers.

The absolute centerpiece of the film is Eric Roberts' gut-wrenching, devastating performance as Paul Snider, Dorothy's starmaker/husband/killer. This was the first time I had ever seen Eric Roberts so it was very easy for me to not let his characterization be spoiled by recognizing the actor. Again, with the exception of James Dean, I have NEVER been so flabbergasted over an actor's performance as this. Why he wasn't nominated for and WIN the Best Actor Oscar is something I'll never understand. To this day, when I see the film I still feel deeply conflicted watching this character: he's the epitome of the sleazeball that everyone dislikes instantly but turns so pathetic that it's difficult not to feel some sympathy for him as a human being....but just when you're wishing someone would offer a helping hand, the brutal climax of the film hits like a tidal wave.

Eric Roberts got deeply into Paul Snider's head and it must have been a punishing experience. For the brutalization to his nervous system, Mr. Roberts has left us with a film role that will retain it's shockingly profound power as long as there are movies. Too bad there's no extras with the DVD; I'd love to hear Mr. Roberts recollections of playing this role.

The last 10 minutes of the film are incredibly powerful; they are also very disturbing and may leave you in stunned silence.
I personally consider "Star 80" to be a true classic and hope it will someday be rediscovered and re-evaluated as such; there's a direct line from the "Golden Age" of movie making in the 70s to this film. It's a difficult film to get out of your mind and actually grows more powerful with repeated viewings.

"Star 80" gets my absolute highest recommendation, but with it's sensitive subject matter and shockingly gruesome climax, please be advised the film is not for everyone.

Let's be honest: fans of the WWF love a good soap opera as much as, if not more than, the matches they produce. If that's the case, SummerSlam 2000 must rank as one of the great WWF pay-per-views in the last several years. At the center is the climax of the infamous love triangle that Vince McMahon and his gaggle of writers concocted during the year 2000. The main event here is a triple-threat match for the WWF title, held by the Rock, but really, his presence is secondary to the other two men involved, Triple H and Kurt Angle. For these two men, it's personal, as both are in love with the same woman, Triple H's wife, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. This DVD goes to great lengths to document the history leading up to the match, and it's essential to enjoying the PPV. Also, other histories are included, lending the soap-opera feel to all of the matches. While the tremendous main event is reason enough to buy this DVD, other smaller matches fortify it. For example, you get the boss's son, Shane McMahon, falling 50 feet from a support beam. You get an announcer getting involved in a match and smashing a glass jar in a wrestler's face. Oh yeah, and there's also some impressive old-school wrestling... but, really, who cares about wrestling when you're watching a wrestling match in the WWF? --Dave McCoy

4 out of 5 stars One Of The Best From 2000.......2007-06-05

Too Cool & Rikishi vs. Right To Censor - This was a good opener as the crowd loves to see the RTC get beat up. This was right around when the Godfather joined & became the Goodfather so Rikishi came out with his former "hos"...one who just happened to be the diva currently known as Victoria.

Road Dogg vs. X-Pac - This was a match to kill off whatever was left of D-Generation X and it was an decent match to watch but nothing really special or memorable.

Intercontinental Champion Val Venis & Trish Stratus vs. Eddie Guerrero & Chyna - This was the an intergender tag team match with the stipulation that whoever beats either Val or Trish becomes the I.C. Champion. This was a real good match here as all four worked well together. This was back when Trish was only hired for her looks & not training in the ring yet so her work is very limited but everyone did their job & the match came together well.

Tazz vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler - It's amazing how in less than a year, Tazz went from a big debut breaking Kurt Angle's undefeated streak to being the villian against a color commentator. Tazz for the most part kept taunting Jim Ross thoughout the entire match based off his involvement in this angle & it was put to a poetic finish in the end with Jim Ross getting involved.

Hardcore Champion Shane McMahon vs. Steve Blackman - This wasn't the Shane McMahon type match that we've seen him have with the likes of X-Pac or Kurt Angle but it was mostly him running away from Blackman while T&A (Test & Albert) were trying to beat up Blackman for Shane. The only memorable highlight was Shane McMahon taking an unbelievable backwards fall off the top of the set to the floor before Blackman dropped an elbow on him.

TLC Match: Tag Team Champions Edge & Christian vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz - The first TLC match and this was the one that topped their WrestleMania match months earlier. Again, this is one of those matches that I can't describe in words that you just have to watch.
(Also available on "The Ladder Match")

2 Out of 3 Falls Match: Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit - A technical classic here between these two. Unfortunally, this match gets overshadowed by their earlier & later matches throughout the WWF but you know you can never go wrong with these two in the same match.

Thong Stinkface Match: The T&A (I don't mean Test & Albert this time) segment of the night that wasn't really anything special past seeing these two in skimpy bikinis.

Undertaker vs. Kane - This was probably one of their weakest matches as it was just an out of control brawl with Taker trying to rip off Kane's mask before Kane backed off & ran away. Again, just a brawl & doesn't live up to their previous encounters.

WWF Champion The Rock vs. Triple H vs. Kurt Angle -
Triple H stated on his "That Damn Good" DVD that this was the most unusual match he's been in. It's more like HHH vs. The Rock featuring Kurt Angle because Kurt gets beat up & carried to the back before the match really starts. On the "Don't Try This At Home" promos before the start of any WWE video, you'll see a part where HHH tries to pedigree someone on a table but it breaks...this is where that clip came from. HHH & Rock go at it but after this, Kurt comes back & gets involved in the last 5 mins. along with Stephanie McMahon. Again, this match was unusual but every entertaining.
(Also available on Triple H "That Damn Good" & "History Of The WWE Championship")

This was one of the best PPV's from the year 2000 as it had a solid card from top to bottom. I recommend.

Im sure you know the scale 1-10 by now so lets get started.

Six Man Tag Match
Right TO Censor Vs. Too Cool and Rikishi

This was a pretty good opener for summerslam 2000. Even though most parts it was boring i thought they tried hard to entertain. Winner: Right to Censor. 6/10

Single Match
X-Pac Vs. Road Dog

This match was a little bit better than the first match. They can also be boring but this match was good. They did alot of moves i was not expecting them to do. Road dog tried to do a pump handle slam for the win but X-Pac comes back. Winner: X-Pac. 6.5/10

Intercontinental Championship Mixed Tag Match
Trish and Val Venis VS. Eddie Guerrero and Chyna

This match was a pretty good match. It is funny because of the Story-Line Eddie loves China but in this match he wants to win.(We all miss Eddie) They tag each other and pretty short match. Then Chyna pins Trish for the win. It is funny because Eddie wanted to win but Chyna did. Eddie still liked Chyna. Winner: Chyna 7/10

Single match
Taz VS. Jerry "The King" Lawyer

This match had a pretty good story line about Jr. and King hatting Taz. It was about Taz knocking out the window of the limo and glass getting in Jr.'s eye. King gets in the and they start to wrestle throughout the match Taz keeps calling Jr. a redneck. King hits a nice Piledriver in this match and does better than i thought. Another reason Jr. and King hate taz is because he is from ECW. I love ECW and still like Jr. and King still i dont care. But then Taz is Chocking out King and Jr. gets up and hits him with a candy jar glass in Taz's head. Then King pins him for the win. SOme people would of thought this match was boring but i liked it. Winner: Jerry Lawyer 8/10

Hardcore Championship Match
Shane McMahon VS. Steve Blackman

This was all out for me the awesome match this night. They start of with steve trying to hit shane with a kindo stick. Then they get in the crowd and fight with a trash can. Then Steve jumps off the stands and hits Shane with the trashcan in the head. They get back in the ring with alot of weapons. Then Test and Albert come to the ring and help out Shane. Shane hits steve with a sign right in the face and is awesome. Then they go to the stage where they come out and fight up there. Then Steve hits Test and Albert and knocks them out. Then Shane climbs the Stage Structure and goes 50-75 ft. in the air. Steve follows with a kindo stick. When he gets up there he hits Shane in the leg and shane falls 50-75 ft. off the structure to the stage!!! Then Blackman comes down and hits an elbow off the structure to Shane and Picks up the win. Winner: Steve Blackman 10/10

Two out of Three falls match all single
Chris Benoit VS. Chris Jericho

This match is a good clean awesome match if you like that. The crowd is still so pumped of what they just saw from Shane and Steves hardcore match which you have to see to believe that no one in the crowd at first cares about this match to much. Then the crowd gets involved more. They are so many suspenful parts in this match. Good wrestling. Chris Benoit pins Jericho 2-1 for the win. Winner: Chris Benoit 7/10

World Tag Team Championship TLC Match
Edge&Christian VS. Dudleys Vs. Hardys

This was an awesome match. I want tell you everything but i will tell you most parts. Jeff falls off a ladder that hits Matt in the face. 3d through a table. Matt falls backwards off a ladder through a table. Jeff does a leg drop over the ladder jumping off the turnbuckle. Jeff does a Swantom off a ladder on the outside but Bubba moves so Jeff hits and goes through the table and what impact. Jeff and D-Von hold on to the titles and the ladder falls so Jeff kicks D-von off the ladder and falls far and hits the ring hard. Everyone chanted Hardys because that is there home town. Then Edge and Christian throw a ladder at him and he falls off. Then they get a ladder and get the belts. Winners:Edge&Christian. 10/10

Stink Face Match
Terri VS. The Kat

The only reason i like this match is because of the laddies. The Kat stinks face terri for the win.
Winner:The Kat 6/10

Single Match
Undertaker VS. Kane

This match never got started but good outside wrestling. They go in the ring and fight but then undertaker rips off Kanes mask and kane runs leaving it nobody the winner. But good story line about kane turning against the Undertaker and chockslaming him through the ring. Good fighting. Winner: No one 8/10

WWE Championship Triple Threat Match No Dq at first
The Rock VS. Kurt Angle Vs Triple H

This match had a good storyline to it about Kurt and Stephanie. First Kurt comes out and talks about Steph and then Triple H comes out. They throw fist then go outside and Triple H puts kurt on the spanish announce table. Then when The Game Tries the Pedigree the table gives causing Kurts face to go right in the table really hurting him and he is out like a light. You can tell the Game was asking Kurt are you alright? Then The Game goes for a sledge and gets it then the rocks music hits. He comes and they fight in the ring while Kurt talks to medical people. Then Kurt goes backstage and the rock and the game fight now 1 on 1. Then later Kurt comes back out for Steph and fights. Good match too. The rock pulls off with the win. Winner:The rock 9.5/10

So that raps up this pay per view summerslam 2000. If you do not have this you need to get this. One of the best ever PPV ever in the History of the wwe. You will be glad you saw it. Thanks for your time and keep it real yall.

1. Too cool and Riksishi vs. Right to censor- This was an average match to kick off the show. I think the too cool always is a good way to kick off the show because they get the crowd off to a good start. This was nothing more than a 7 minute filler but it did its job. Winners right to censor. Match Rating 6/10.

2. X-Pac vs. Road Dog- This was another average match. It told an okay story but the thing that i did not like about this match was this is when DX started to break up. They were such a good tag team anyway i think this was decent but even i got a little bored just a filler i think. Winner X-Pac. Match Rating 6/10.

3. Trish and Val Venis vs. Eddie Guerrero and Chyna for the itc title- This was an above average match. Trish was never really involved in the match so it was basically a handicap match. It was still above average and it was with 3 good wrestlers and i liked how the match played out. Winners and new itc champ eddie guerrero and chyna. Mathc Rtaing 7/10.

4. Tazz vs. The king- This was more of a joke match. I never thought king could wrestle and maybe it used to be good back in the day but let me tell you it is not good anymore. This told a little bit of a storyline but the match was awful u can skip this one for sure. Winner Tazz. Match rating 2.5/10

5. Shane McMahon vs. Steve Blackman for the harcore title- This was a different hardcore match and it was not what i had in mind but it was still a great match for one spot. This was basically one man controlling the whole match untill test and albert ran in. It still had some decent hardcore action but u have to save yourself for this one spot were i would think shane was 45 feet in the air and fell off the structure. A very risky move but one u will only see by shane McMahon. Winner and new wwe hardcore champ Steve Blackman. match Rating 7.5/10.

6. Chris Beniot vs. Y2J 2 out of 3 falls for the itc title- This was a good match but i think i was expecting a little more form these two guys. This was some great work and told a great storyline but it was missing the little bit of extra touch that i was hoping for. Saying that both men came into the match with great intensity and kept it up a little bit of a week ending but still a great match. Winner and still wwe itc champ Chris Beniot. Match Rating 8/10.

7. Edge and Christian vs. The dudleys vs. The hardys for the wwe tag team titles in a TLC match- You take about a match that had non stop action this match was it. This was non stiop the whole way through and u do not want to get up from this. Way better than there match at wrestlemania 200 and some of the risks that these guys took was amazing. Got to give props to all men and just some great stuff. Winners and new wwe tag team champs Edge and Christian. Match Rating 10/10.

8. The cat vs. Terrie in a thong stink face amtch- This was a horraible match wrestling wise but it is awsome if u wanted to calm down from the last match because of how these divas looked. Not much to say except good for the looks. Winner the cat. Match Rating 3/10 for looks.

9. Kane vs. The Undertaker- This was deffenitly not as good as the matches that they have ahd in the past and that is for one reason. The match did not even start. There was some good action in the match but alot of it was trying to rip kanes mask off i think more people would have wanted to see a wrestling match than for the undertaker to go after kanes mask. Still some good parts but should have been given more time and a better ending. Winner no one. Match Rating 6.5/10.

10. Kurt Angle vs. HHH vs. The Rock for the wwe title- This was an awsome way to close off the show. All of these guys put alot into this match. Angle was accualty supposed to prentend to be knocked out in this match but instead he accualty got knocked out which makes this match even more impressive because i cant belive he came out and finished the match. This was non stop action and a way a ppv is supposed to end. goo stuuf. Winner and still wwe champ the rock. Match Rating 9/10.

Well that raps up another. I would give sumkmerslam 200 a grade of 66/100 which = a 66% which means this a good ppv. I would still pick tjis up it is still average for the most of the card but for the tlc match and the beniot and shane and the main event u should pick tthis up. If u can tell me if my review was helpful or not i would appericate that. Thanks for your time.

For more than two decades, Jackson Browne has been one of the most compelling artists in popular music. Going Home, a chronical of Jackson's remarkable history contains interviews, performances and rare footage spanning twenty-five years featuring Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, David Crosby, Graham Nash, The Eagles, David Lindley, Jennifer Warnes and many more. Songs include, Doctor My Eyes, Running On Empty, I'm Alive, These Days, and All Along The Watchtower among others.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Well worth the price of admission.......2004-07-14

Have long been a fan of Jackson Browne and David Lindley, the 22 "other" cuts and (over edited) selections are simply a bonus to the prelude by Don Henley and Jackson telling the story of the writing of "Take It Easy" and the duet in an apparent motel or meeting room (with the left over potato salad on the table. That single video alone, to me, made this purchase well worth the "price of admission".

5 out of 5 stars Christmas present for a true friend.......2003-11-27

For the true fan or even for the reasonably interested and sensitive person, this is the DVD to buy them for Christmas. Not just a pure concert recording but a beautifully crafted history of Jackson with personal interviews as each song is previewed and played together with older versions skilfully merged.

No one does melancholy like Jackson and this DVD has it all. In the words of the master, 'You know, I think that life is full of pain, it's painful for everybody, growing is painful, but I think that the only way through it, is through it, and anything that helps is a blessing, that's why we do what we do, that's why we do music' What more can anyone say? Just don't miss him when he's next in London, I'll be the one in the front row!

This is the one DVD I would grab from a collection of over 200 if the house is burning down!

3 out of 5 stars Great, but I want to hear the music.......2003-11-15

Don't get me wrong. I love Jackson Browne. I have many fond memories of listening to his classic albums over and over again--we would have Jackson Browne nights when I was in college. And yes, learning what we learn from the interviews about the way he makes his music, about his early beginnings as a musician, his political activism, etc. (by the way, as a parent I would love to hear his thoughts on parenthood), all is fascinating and is well worth watching. But I would have made one plea to the editors: don't sacrifice the music! I am one who finds it sacriligious to cut off a song early, or to enter a song late. A song is an organic whole: if not heard in its entirety one has not heard the song. But time and time again, this DVD cuts the songs off before their conclusion. In fact, there are only perhaps three songs (and I mean "perhaps" because of some very quick editing) that we hear in full. I expect this sort of thing from VH1 or MTV (for consumers who, at least many of them, don't hold music in such high regard over celebrity), but I don't expect this of a DVD. The model of excellence in concert and interview video, as the model for so much in film making, is Martin Scorsese's work with The Last Waltz (The Band). The interviews in that film are fascinating and informative, but separated from the music. The format worked well on film, but even more on DVD. One can listen to the interviews one wants, but also hear the music in full.

Here's a message for Jackson Browne (if ever he would listen to this). Jackson, there are a lot of middle aged, near to exhaustion, folks like me who would be revitalized by your music. Yes we would love to hear whatever you want to say. But we would more than love a concert from you, with all the unexpected moments, the spontaneous smiles (when you did it just right! or a sideman does a nice lick!), and just the great songs that you have written so consistently over the many years. Give us another DVD please! Your fans, believe me, will want to keep ahold of this DVD, but we would love that concert!

5 out of 5 stars Rare glimpe at a rare artist.......2003-07-18

Few members of the human race can effect others hearts the way JB does.
Simply put, he is sugar to this sometimes sour world.

4 out of 5 stars Glad I Bought This.......2003-07-14

After reading the reviews posted here, I wasn't sure I wanted to buy this DVD, as it wasn't strictly a concert. However, having just seen him perform at a concert, I wanted to have a visual reminder of his performance even though this DVD is not a full concert (and is nine years old, to boot). Yes, it's true that concert footage is interrupted with commentary by fellow musicians and by Jackson himself; however, perhaps because I was expecting the interruptions, it didn't irritate me. I found the comments quite interesting and a revealing look into the man himself. The sound was very good; however, at times, it seemed like the recording of the music was louder than the vocals. On his albums and CDs, you can almost always hear his lyrics clearly. On this DVD, the vocals seemed a bit low. Overall, the picture quality was excellent, but at some points, the picture stopped for a fraction of a second or seemed to skip. However, that may be because I watched from my computer DVD. Perhaps a "real" DVD player will have better playback. I highly recommend this DVD.

Amazon.com essential video

Nana (Anna Karina) is a Parisian salesgirl who drifts into prostitution. The story is told in the form of a documentary, separated into 12 tableaux. Godard has said that the division into tableaux was to emphasize the theatrical nature of the film, and also because when you look at something for too long you end up knowing less about it. Breaking it up into bite-size chunks can be helpful. What we see is a romantic portrait of womanhood caught between her own role (she wants to be an actress) and that which she is allowed or compelled to do. This is brought home most poignantly when Nana goes to a showing of Carl Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc and her tear-streaked face is intercut with that of Maria Falconetti playing Joan, about to be led to the stake. Add to that the further layer that we have a Danish actress (Karina) in a French film, watching a French actress (Falconetti) in a Danish film, and the implications play out grimly. This is one of Godard's finest films, both austere and compellingly watchable. --Jim Gay

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the very best of the French New Wave.......2007-02-12

My life to live is movie which breaks all of the rules of movies... From the opening shots the darkened profile of anna karina, to the opening scene in which the backs of the two characters in conversation are filmed.. this is Godard a man who loves to confront his audience and to challenge his audience.. But My Life to Live is more than just experimentation in celluloid, it is also a tale of a woman who falls into a life of prostitution.. and it delves into such topics as philosophy, religon, and poetry.. This is a perfectly paced film - each chapter illustrating something the director wants to tell us of the characters..
It is one of the rare gems of the new wave.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece; Truly, A Great Film........2006-12-17

Jean-Luc Godard's "My Life to Live" is a great film with a form of storytelling that has found its way into such films as "Edmond" and "Jesus' Son" (the latter more than the former, even though the latter was based on a book). It's a legendary film; usually a favorite of Godard's right behind "Breathless" and, to this day, it's still incredibly poignant and unique. It doesn't unfold like a regular film, but is separated into chapters. Vignettes, if you will, that are almost unconnected. Sure, it's got the same characters but there is never a reference to a previous chapter. It's like life and that's exactly how it unfolds. The main character is named Nana (played by Anna Karina, who was married to Godard at the time). In the beginning of the film she abruptly leaves her husband and child (brings to mind an early scene in "Edmond" actually) and plays pinball. She works in a record store. She tries to get some money. She tries to steal the key to her flat, but is frog-marched away. She goes to see "The Passion of Joan of Arc." Eventually, she becomes a prostitute which leads her to her violent end. And even that scene is brilliant; the camera work here is exquisite. The camera isn't used as a "recording device" here, but rather a "looking device." It's not, really, recording what Nana is doing but watching her. Every scene is right there, happening. No explanation, no character development needed. This is only the 2nd Godard film I've seen (the other was Weekend) and it's clear that he was an experimental director. Being experimental is not hard to do, but doing it this well is hard. I just compared this movie to two other films...Jesus' Son was highly acclaimed, but is now Out-of-Print on DVD...Still available in a lot of places, cheap, however. Edmond received O.K. reviews and audiences don't generally like it. Both those movies are more like this film for the way the story is strung together, not so much for camera angles and such. Why is it that movies like those aren't liked a lot, while this film still thrives? "My Life to Live" is a brilliant little piece of film that I think many people should check out. The only thing one can hope for is a better DVD release, possibly from The Criterion Collection or something. The picture and everything is fine, it'd just be nice to have some bonus features. See this movie, I can't stress it enough. One of the best movies ever made.

GRADE: A

5 out of 5 stars A Moving Picture Book.......2005-09-26

Originality at it's pinnacle, very enjoyable film about, Jean Luc Godard is to people what Tim Burton is to immagination, no one covers the true feelings and actions of people like Godard, this is probably my second favorite Godard film, BREATHLESS being the first.

5 out of 5 stars mortir sa morte.......2005-02-20

this movie has a lot of life in it. it's my favourite godard but i haven't seen 'em all so it's my favourite godard of the godard that i've seen.

5 out of 5 stars Landmark Film.......2004-12-20

I've enjoyed Godard before, especially "Breathless," but this film is Godard's most powerful. Anna Karina is an out of work Dutch actress in poverty. She slips from shop girl to streetwalker. The world of suave French pimps and sex workers of 1962 in black and white fascinates. Sex, sex for francs always fascinates. Nana is herself, and she is a prostitute. She has chosen this role because it is all the work she has been offered. It is the entertainment business after all. At first, the stranger that wants to kiss her disgusts, but before long she is making money and has a philosophical young pimp to show her the ropes. Nana entertains her John's every whim, as do all the streetwalkers of Paris. The result is a moralistic tragedy, but the telling of the tale in weird, faceless shots with a cold, winter Paris are the antitheses of films like the golden summers of "Gigi." I remember those streets from my travels in the mid-century. There is Goddard style and there is the seamy side of prostitution even if the whore is as young and beautiful as Anna Karina. The prettier, the more successful, in the sex trade.

I must tell the review reader that much of European prostitution, perhaps in America too is slavery - forced sex work. The victims are young East European girls from the old Iron Curtain, and don't kid yourself; they are slaves and many, if not all, have been beaten, gang raped, and disfigured. Many have venereal disease. Am I being over dramatic? I know -- they smile at a John, but don't be naive. Remember there is a man behind the curtain holding a gun. Remember I told you.
