4 out of 5 stars A Rare and Bizarre Film To Say The Least.......2007-04-28

Now, I've seen my share of oddball titles through the years, but this sucker really takes the cake. Not many films can make your jaw hit the floor in shock and amazement-especially one that's pretty much appropriate for any age-but this film might just do that on the strength of how insanely goofy it is. Plot is quite simple-Family moves into haunted house(the reason it's haunted is explained by some kinda crack in the earth that the house rests on, but that whole angle is never elaborated on or explained too well) and the son has to stop the evil ghosties from destroying his family, and the whole world. He has until Saturday the 14th to stop em. Naturally it's a comedy and bears no relation to the film Saturday the 14th. Same director though. It's rather lighthearted for a horror spoof, yet manages to be more out to lunch than alot of movies. It's nearly impossible to describe because I've never seen a film quite like it. Try to imagine if you can, if Lloyd Kauffman, the Zucker Bros, David Lynch and Ed Wood collaborated on a film, and you might get an idea of how this thing plays out. It's extremely cheap, the acting is hilariously awful, enormous gaps in logic, music numbers pop up, stock footage abound, and every character is insane. The family is so loony that when the ghosts and monsters arrive, they blend so seamlessly with the insanity that the family(and the viewer) barely notice any difference. I'd seen this movie numerous times back in the good ol' days of HBO, and I must say that for as downright awful as this movie is, I have always found it fascinating, entertaining and actually quite funny. It's worth checking out. You might hate it, but you can't deny it's unique.

2 out of 5 stars Saturday the 14th Strikes Back.......2001-10-17

Unfortunately, this movie was not as good as it's predecessor. Then again how many sequels really are? The movie was kind of bland with a boring story line. It produced a few decent laughs, but not really much more. A few good actors kind of kept this movie going, but there was only so much they could do to try to save this film. Personnaly, I would rate a low-budget movie much higher than this film.

5 out of 5 stars good movie.......2001-04-03

this is a really good and funny movie. i recommend that you if not buy it at least watch it.

Whenever a farm kid gets accepted to a fancy college, there is the potential for comedy (Loser) or for thriller-like tragedy (The Skulls). From the opening voice-over narration, Stonebrook opts to be the fish-out-of-water thriller. With the help of a friend of the family, 23-year-old Erik (Brad Rowe) gets a scholarship to the Ivy League-type school called Stonebrook. His dorm-mate is a nerdy hacker named Cornelius (Seth Green). When his scholarship is yanked, the two of them team up to pull increasingly ambitious scams to keep him in tuition money, eventually crossing paths with mob boss Mr. Tali (Stanley Kamel). While Rowe is perfectly fine playing off his Brad Pitt looks with his Brad Pitt style of indifferent acting, Green turns in a disappointing performance. The stronger actor of the two, Green has been consistently good in movies (Austin Powers) and on TV (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), but for some reason this time he decided to overplay his nerd characteristics as if he were a reject from Weird Science. Then there's the plot. With its scams within scams within scams, logic soon flies out the window and the question of who's scamming whom is quickly replaced with "Who cares?" In the end, Stonebrook wants to be a college version of The Usual Suspects but doesn't quite make the grade. --Andy Spletzer

Description

Higher education meets high-stakes crime in this inventive and taut thriller about what happens when the best of intentions go awry. Hot young actors Seth Green (Austin Powers: The Spy Who ShaggedMe, Buffy, The Vampire Slayer ) and Brad Rowe (Body Shots, Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss) star as two undergrads who decide to take on the mob just to stay in school! When Stonebrook freshman Erik Lansdon's (Rowe) scholarship is revoked, his roommate, Cornelius (Green), offers a solution: con for cash. When they land a job delivering packages that contain large sums of mob money, these two desperate students see it as the opportunity of a lifetime, and devise a risky scam to steal the loot right from under the crooks noses. But instead, they get a crash course in Survival 101 when they learn that their clever double-cross is being double-crossed!

1 out of 5 stars Terrible! I don't know what the other reviewers were thinking!.......2006-03-26

This movie is, in a word, awful. Unless you enjoy watching intelligent adults fall for incredibly inane schemes by giving away large sums of money and allowing the schemers in question access to their most private information without doing the slightest bit of research first, don't bother. Erik is annoying, unattractive, and a criminal at heart. It makes absolutely no sense that Londyn, who broke off relations with her mob father after learning of his activities, chooses to pursue a relationship with someone as greedy and ready to steal from others as Erik is. Finally, Cornelius is a bit too slick to be believable as a nerdy student.

I actually groaned aloud while watching this "film," it was so bad! Here is just one example: Erik makes a delivery for a mob boss to a man named Rosewood, and Rosewood is so grateful for a bit of advice in regard to his garden that he bakes cookies for Erik and later allows him to replace his keyboard (that connects to his computer with all his sensitive data) without doing the least bit of a background check on him. What makes that even harder to swallow is the fact that Erik works for the man whom Rosewood is blackmailing! Finally, Rosewood takes Erik's and Cornelius's (and keep in mind that Rosewood had not met Cornelius until this moment) claim on faith that the man he is blackmailing is out to get him and allows them to go in his stead--in his Porsche 911!--to make a pick-up for him. Meanwhile, he doesn't notice that Cornelius steals his disk of data and his briefcase full of money. I'm shaking my head even now in disbelief.

Bottom line: you can definitely find a million better things than this movie to do to waste your time.

4 out of 5 stars THE THREE "G'S".......2004-02-27

Good acting, good story and good price. The image and sound are fine, altough it does have that straight-to-video look about it. This is a movie I could rewatch. It is not exactly a classic, but it is entertaining. I do not regret viewing this.

3 out of 5 stars seth green kicks!!.......2003-09-22

Seth Green is my favorite actor, period. This movie is ok, but the shootout at the finale feels dumb but its uplifted by its striking sorta "The Usual Suspects" ending, which I liked in this movie. Green sorta dissapeared for like god knows how many minutes making people think hes dead but then comes back, great performance by him, in a geeky way. a must see for Green fans

4 out of 5 stars A Pleasanst Surprise.......2001-01-19

Some think this was a direct to video movie and it was not. I personally saw this movie at the theatre! I can say I was honestly surprised. It is very suspensful, with a number of unexpected twists. Brad Rowe is very believing in the character he plays. I personally saw a couple of the scenes in this movie being filmed in Chapel Hill, NC, and it is a professional flick, not amateur as stated by a couple of other reviews here. If you like suspense, thrillers, twists, catch this movie!
