The adventures of pint-sized secret agents Juni and Carmen Cortes (Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega) continue. As Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over opens, Juni has left the spy agency and launched a career as a private detective--but when he learns that his sister Carmen has disappeared into a nefarious multi-user computer game, he agrees to go in after her, with the assistance of his grandfather (Ricardo Montalban). Three-dimensional special effects launch us into a topsy-turvy world of battling robots, souped-up motorcycle races, frogs on pogo sticks, surfing on hot lava, and much, much more. The story is even more incoherent than an actual computer game--but the movie storms along, driven by writer/director/editor/everything-else Robert Rodriguez's sheer visual enthusiasm. Featuring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, and everyone else who appeared in the first two Spy Kids movies. --Bret Fetzer

3 out of 5 stars I guess it could be entertaining..........2007-08-22

And it's probably better than, let's say 85% of what Disney shows nowadays. It has alright characters from what I've watched and less than dazzling special effects. They were OK though, I guess.

The action is somewhat entertaining and the girls aren't over-stereotypically feminine and girly (which I liked) and it was a colorful movie.

No major complaints (didn't watch the whole movie) but wasn't blown away either.

Good for the kids.

5 out of 5 stars best kids action movie ever!.......2007-03-07

This has got to be the best kids action movie ever! I rented this movie
for a week and watched it 5 times and loved it. Believe me when you see this you are going to want to buy this like me! I have seen every one
except spy kids 2 {Island of Lost Dreams}. The basic outline of Spy Kids
Game Over is Carmon Cortez {Alexa Vega} gets stuck in a virtual reality
game trying to turn it off {to find out why you will need to watch it} and
Juni Cortez {Daryl Sabara} Must fight his way through the levels to save his sister and shut down the game at the same time. If he fails his mission,GAME OVER! I hope you will enjoy the dvd like I did!

5 out of 5 stars Spy Kids 3.......2007-02-07

The kids really loved this. We liked it too. Exciting. Nice to choose 3-D version or standard version.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST!.......2006-09-24

IN 3D I JUMPED BACK BECUSE HIS SWORD THING CAME OUT OF THE TV! YOU NEED TO GET THIS. MY MOM JUST GOT ME ONE FOR MY OWN JUST NOW. I CAN'T WAIT THE 3-4 DAYS!

OVER ALL: YOU NEED TO GET THIS!

1 out of 5 stars KILL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!.......2006-08-01

KILL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! THIS MOVIE IS THE WORST MOVIE OF ALL, ALL, ALL, TIME SINCE THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE AND BEFORE THAT! IN THEATERS I WAS THE ONLY ONE WATCHING THAT MOVIE AND I FELT LIKE WALKING OUT!! I WANTED TO CRY :( THE ACTORS STINK ALONG WITH THE PLOT AND 3-D EFFECTS!!!

All I can say is BOOOOOOOOOO THIS MOVIE SUCKS!

Carmen and Juni Cortez will soon find out that their favorite bedtime story, "The Spies Who Fell in Love," is really the story of their parents. So begins this affable fantasy, a James Bond adventure for wee ones with all the trimmings. When Dad and Mom (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) mess up their first mission after coming out of retirement, their kids must come to the rescue, equipped with some cool gadgets. The Cortez family gets involved in a bizarre plot hatched by a Pee-wee Herman-type entertainer named Fegan Floop (a wonderfully hammy Alan Cumming) that's as giddy as it is ridiculous. Needless to say there is plenty of derring-do concerning long-lost uncles, goofy monsters, double agents, evil robots, look-alikes, and energized chases. Did we mention the gadgets? Although Banderas and Gugino make terrific impressions, the movie is carried (as it should be) by the younger Cortezes, winningly played by Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara. Who would have thought an action/horror studio (Dimension) and writer-director Robert Rodriguez had this pleasing family film up their sleeves? Rodriquez (who produced with his wife Elizabeth Avellán) seemed to be mired in cheesy horror films but here breaks out by capitalizing on the talent that gave him instant status with his debut, El Mariachi (1992). Spy Kids has plenty of verve but never swerves into potty humor (OK, there is one good potty joke) or wicked gunplay. All 7-year-olds should have a film as fun as this in their movie-going lives. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars this movie is great!!!.......2005-11-25

but why did everyone else copy it? there's been like 3 movies that copied it! like:
1.agent cody banks
2.catch that kid
3.incredibles
yes the incredibles copied it. the WHOLE story!! i don't know why they did that? can't they leave movies alone? like shrek was copied with monsters inc. and ice age! i'm getting tired of that at least madagascar is original.

5 out of 5 stars Good movie for age appropiate children.......2005-09-29

Action packed and fun to watch. My kids loved it.

5 out of 5 stars Great kids movie.......2005-09-25

This movie is full of action, adventure and creative characters without being violent and scary. My two boys loved it. It was loads of fun for my husband and I as well as there is plenty of comedy that transends generations. We have seen Spy Kids 2 as well but can't reccomend it as it contains more violence and the characters were pretty scary.

This delightful sequel to Spy Kids demonstrates once again writer-director Robert Rodriguez's remarkable gift for wild invention. Carmen and Juni Cortez (Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara) are now regular operatives for a spy agency, but a couple of rival spy kids are making their lives difficult. When an important gadget gets stolen, Juni gets blamed and loses his job--but Carmen hacks into the agency computer, reinstates him, and sends them off on a high-security mission to a mysterious island to clear the boy's name. The pace is zippy, every situation is crammed with dazzling eye-candy, and the cast is great--Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino return as the kids' parents, Steve Buscemi plays a crackpot scientist, and Ricardo Montalban comes in as the kids' grandfather. Fans of the classic Sinbad adventure movies will particularly enjoy the elaborate creatures that Carmen and Juni battle on the island. Pure fun. --Bret Fetzer

We all enjoyed Spy Kids, Spy Kids2 and Spy Kids 3D. They are good family movies that we all can watch.

3 out of 5 stars I spy with my blue eye..........2007-06-16

Pint-sized OSS Junior agents, sister and brother Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni (Daryl Sabara) Cortez, are back for another spirited adventure in Spy Kids 2. Their newest and most dangerous mission takes them to a mysterious, hidden volcanic island where they meet a reclusive genetic scientist (Steve Buscemi) and his bizarre Noah's Ark of hybrid creatures which include the cat-fish, the bull-frog, and the Spork (sparrow / pork). Hot on their heels, eager to solve the mystery on the island and stop the world's imminent destruction first, are Carmen and Juni's rivals from OSS Junior, Gary (Matt O'Leary) and Gerti (Emily Osment) Giggles.

As the four kids head right into a perilous trap that could make them disappear forever, super spies Mom and Dad Cortez (Carla Gugino, Antonio Banderas) go after them, and their spy grandparents - "retired, but not tired" - played by Ricardo Montalban and Holland Taylor, round out the rescue party. But with their gadgets, gizmos and genetics, the Cortez kids don't need rescuing... or so they think.

Writer, director, editor, production designer, director of photography, re-recording mixer and composer (!) Robert Rodriguez has done something very unusual here: he's topped the popular original. Spy Kids 2 has a better plot, cooler special effects, and even more adventure than Spy Kids 1. It helps that all the same actors are back to play these likable characters, and Rodriguez was smart enough to add just enough new ones. Grandpa Cortez, in his high-tech wheelchair, is a not only a great role model, he's portrayed by the ideal actor for the role. The Giggles kids are perfectly annoying, and there's also a cavalcade of consistently cool character actors - Bucemi, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Bill Paxton, Mike Judge - that are sure to delight with their quirky portrayals.

The gadgets, such as the Dragon-Spy sub, the satellite linked watches that do everything but tell time, and the rocket powered hover shoes, are lots of fun, but it's the Ray Harryhausen-inspired creatures, mythic beasts and sword-fighting skeletons which are the most entertaining. Rodriguez walks the fine line of respecting without ripping off.

I guess it's not top secret; I heartily recommend that you treat the kids - or the kid in you - to Spy Kids 2 on the special edition DVD.

5 out of 5 stars spy kids 2.......2007-02-06

My daughter loves it, she is six and loves action kids movies. It is even entertaining enough for adults.

1 out of 5 stars One of the worst movies ever made.......2006-09-05

This movie is horrible. I even found the terror that was Jaws: the Revenge better than this. I'll list some of the things that made this movie bad.
1. The acting was horrible
2. the special effect were even worse than the acting
3. The kids were smarter than the adults (thats how you know its a corny kids movie)
4. The jokes fell flat every singal time
5. The script was horrible
6. 95% of the movie you could tell was on a blue screen
I know they were targeting this movie for younger audiences but get real I've seen alot of family movies that both kids, teenagers, and adults can enjoy. I felt tortured threw this entire movie. I was Praying that it would end and I could leave. Don't buy this movie. Hell don't even rent it. Its just that bad.

5 out of 5 stars Great HD Movie excellently cast.......2006-08-18

The first thing I noticed when watching the movie was the excellent picture quality - it was 'filmed' in High Definition.

Apart from really enjoying the movie (I haven't seen Spy Kids 1 or 3), I found the audio commentary by Robert Rodriguez fantastic. So much so, I plan on buying the DVD, just so I can listen to this again (I borrowed the DVD from our local library).

What a talented and imaginative man Robert Rodriguez is. I also found that alot of his comments are also appropriate in many other areas of ones life, and they don't only relate to the movie industry.

The DVD contains a lot of extra special features and I found them most interesting.

In summary it was a really enjoyable movie, and the special features were superb.

Mr. Bean meets Mr. Bond in Johnny English, a spy spoof that skewers the genre with Rowan Atkinson's trademark brand of veddy-British slapstick. It's a bit half-baked as a wannabe franchise, but Atkinson's creation of a new screen persona is just promising enough to warrant a sequel, despite critics' complaints that Austin Powers had already exhausted the spy-spoof's potential. Poppycock! Atkinson's gift for physical and, in this case, even verbal humor will surely please his devoted fans, even when a rather tepidly comedic screenplay prevents the British funnyman from reaching new heights of absurdity. As bumbling superspy Johnny English, who gains top-level MI-7 clearance after inadvertently causing a colleague's demise, Atkinson breathes life into gags that are too familiar to earn such an amusing revival. With John Malkovich as a smarmy Frenchman determined to overthrow the British monarchy, and Natalie Imbruglia as Johnny's comely comrade-in-arms, this slight but enjoyable comedy gives Atkinson plenty of opportunity to mug it up as only he can. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Rowan Atkinson is more than Mr. Bean...........2007-09-07

One of the things that makes Rowan Atkinson a comic genius is that he's a master at both spoken and physical comedy. While fans of Mr. Bean will see Atkinson's physical comedy, fans of the Black Adder series know his comic timing is truly a thing of beauty.

Johnny English is one of the very few pieces that shows Atkinson giving equal time to both. The scene at the funeral can go down as a comedy classic. This film is hilarious.

5 out of 5 stars My all-time favorite comedy.......2007-06-08

Johnny English is my favorite comedy of all time! I've seen it at least 20 times over he past 3 years and am still not tired of it, on the contrary, I find it extremely delightful every time! If you like Rowan Atkinson, make sure you don't miss this comedy! The role of a clumsy secret agent suits him to a T and this is British humor at its best! I've watched a lot of British comedies and this, along with the Blackadder series 1, 2, and 3, are my absolute favorites! Of course much of it is based on cliches, but Atkinson's way of dealing with these cliches is most unexpected and therefore very refreshing.

5 out of 5 stars 2nd James Bond 007.......2007-03-22

If you ever fall in love with Mr. Bean, the UK comedy television series, you should fall in love with Johnny English as well. It is one of an outstanding comedy films that combines the clumsiness, laughing out loud moments, and romantic scenes of Rowan Atkinson who is a director himself. It can be described as the combination of Mr. Bean and James Bond 007.

The film has some similarities in both Mr. Bean and James Bond 007. There are many moments in Johnny English that remind the viewers of Mr. Bean. One of them is when Atkinson is in the shower with a duck toy that babies usually play with when they take a shower. This film is different from Mr. Bean due to the fact that the viewers will not be able to hear audiences laughing when Atkinson does something stupid that we usually hear from watching Mr. Bean. It is a film not one of the series that ends in half an hour. The film itself takes about one hour and twenty-eight minutes. In Mr. Bean, the viewers can easily notice that Atkinson plays in the role of a mute person, but not in Johnny English. He speaks with his British Accent in Johnny English. It is also different from James Bonds 007 on account of the film being taken only in United Kingdom instead of all over the world.

4 out of 5 stars Johnny English.......2007-02-12

When I was in the mood for a spy spoof to watch with a certain James Bond film, I decided to give the Austin Powers films a miss, and sample Johnny English (other hopefuls would be Spy Hard, but my recollection of that film is that I wanted to walk out of the theatre--and then there's Spies Like Us, but, uh, no, not right now).

Johnny English stars George Lazenby--oh no wait, that's Rowan Atkinson--and an Australian with very little acting experience, George Lazenby--oh no wait that's Natalie Imruglia. It is Atkinson, as the title character, who helps make this a delightful surprise, along with some pretty funny sequences: for instance, Atkinson having trouble with his tie in a sushi bar, Atkinson involved in a car chase where the car he's in is hanging from the winch of a tow truck.

The knocks against this film, when they come, seem to be as follows: we've had too many spy spoofs, the plot involving John Malkovich as a Frenchman trying to become ruler of England is too ridiculous, and the film isn't that funny. To all this frippery I say: how many, exactly, is too many spy spoofs?, this is a comedy and the outrageous, shamefacedly contrived storyline is so brash and amorphous that it's a daring nonsensical joy, and finally, though not all the gags work perfectly, I found I was laughing most of the way through.

Uh, not to put too fine a point on it, but who is saying we have too many spy spoofs...fans of the TWENTY-ONE Bond films?

More thoughts on the gags: sure, Atkinson's intrusion on a funeral and its results goes on a bit long, and a buttocks-shot joke harks right back to Naked Gun 2(and a half), and the drawn-out results of our bumbling hero's parachute jump onto a skyscraper are only mildly amusing, but there are many more tidbits that I don't want to spoil. It's not true at all that this film is only funny the first time round; if You Only Watch Once, then you deny yourself repeated exposure to Malkovich's bad French accent, and the guy with the eyepatch, the banana-shaped scars, the bad teeth, and the frizzy orange hair.

I think that Johnny English is pretty consistent in doling out the laughs, and that makes it a success as far as I'm concerned. We probably won't see a sequel, so those who feel we have too many spy spoofs shall have their petty little victory, I suppose.

5 out of 5 stars Great comedy wrapped in a slick spy package.......2007-02-03

I've always enjoyed the world of suave spies and all of their gadgets. Giving Rowan Atkinson access to this world sets the stage for many laughs. I was struck by how creatively he can get himself into a variety of messes. The best mess of the movie is when is Aston Martin is towed and he highjacks the truck. His physical "Mr. Bean" humor tied to his "spy-ish" good looks makes his character one of the best that I've seen in a long time. Three cheers for a great, clean comedy.

Product Description

Davey Osborne is an imaginative youngster who loves role-playing games, and who often enlists the aid of his best friend, an imaginary super-spy named Jack Flack. One day he witnesses a real murder of an FBI agent who passes a videogame called "Cloak & Dagger" to him before he dies. When the police come, the body is gone, and no one will believe him, including his father, Col. Hal Osborne. Soon Davey finds himself up to his neck in hairbreadth escapes, real bullets, and slam-bang action as the hitmen close in. Can Jack save him before time runs out? Cloak & Dagger stars Henry Thomas of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Dabney Coleman in a dual role of Jack and Davey's father, and Michael Murphy.

Who should a kid's hero be? In this underrated adventure-comedy, that's the central issue. Henry Thomas, fresh from E.T., plays a San Antonio kid whose father (Dabney Coleman) doesn't spend nearly enough time with him. So the boy loses himself in video games--and even has an imaginary friend (also played by Coleman), a super-resourceful secret agent. When he accidentally comes into possession of a spy group's secret plans, and winds up on the run from them, he must learn to rely on himself (and his imaginary pal) to save his skin. But, in the end, Dad proves to be his real hero in this engaging and solid family film. --Marshall Fine

A James Bond-style action-adventure film for the tween and teen set based on Anthony Horowitz's book "Stormbreaker," Alex Rider--Operation Stormbreaker is a fast-paced action film shot in and around London that's bursting with suspense, intrigue, high-tech gadgetry, martial arts moves, and intense chase scenes featuring everything from cars and motorbikes to helicopters, quad bikes, bicycles, and horses. Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) thinks he's just an ordinary 14-year old kid, but when the uncle that raised him (Ewan McGregor) dies, he soon discovers that his uncle led a secret life as an intelligence agent and that he was secretly grooming Alex for a similar future with special intelligence division MI6. Motivated by revenge against his uncle's killers, Alex takes up where his uncle left off in the investigation of computer mogul Darrius Sayle (Mickey Rourke), delving into his seemingly philanthropic plan to supply a whole new breed of laptops to school children throughout the United Kingdom. Alex's undercover investigation quickly reveals Sayle's true motive and, without any real support or protection from his MI6 supervisors Alan Blunt (Bill Nighy) or Mrs. Jones (Sophie Okonedo) or his quirky housekeeper Jack Starbright (Alicia Silverstone), Alex must somehow prevail against the dangerous Mr. Sayle to safeguard the lives of thousands of innocent people. Comparable to Spy Kids and a step above Agent Cody Banks, Alex Rider--Operation Stormbreaker is an intense, believable film that will captivate viewers ages 10 and older. Bonus features include featurettes focusing on making the book into a film with author and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz, the extensive stunt work performed, the logistics involved in shooting a horse chase through Hyde Park and Piccadilly, visual effects by Baseblack, casting Alex, and the choreography of martial arts master Donnie Yen. --Tami Horiuchi

1 out of 5 stars ruins all the books for me.......2007-08-12

Let me start by saying I love the book series. I had high hopes this movie but since they tryed so hard to make it a family movie it was terrible. I am going to read the books but will probably stop seeing the movies. It was totaly unrealistic and was like Spy Kids. I am intrested to see if they can make Scorpia and Ark Angel under the PG-13 rateing though. Especially Ark Angel since Alex gives someone the finger in it lol.

    5 out of 5 stars Good,.......2007-07-07

clean family movie with a bit of excitment for all members. Spy in the making before he knew he could be a spy, Alex takes on the bad guys to find out who murdered his spy uncle.

    4 out of 5 stars A teenage 007 !.......2007-06-10

In this film, you see the life of a 14 yr old who has been trained in the world of spycraft. It is light and it is well done. Alex as a young actor has a future in the world of acting, and hopefully in the series of novels that have been written. Hopefully they too, will reach the film world.

I WATCHED THIS MOVIE PRIOR TO GIVING IT TO MY TEENAGE GRANDSON. IT'S A FUN MOVIE,ACTION PACKED, LOTS OF GADGETS, SPECIAL EFFECTS. VERY ENJOYABLE FOR ALL AGES.THANKS

4 out of 5 stars Excellent, But The Books Are Much Better!.......2007-01-31

I have read all the Alex Rider books, and I recommend them. Although the film was brilliant, I was a bit disappointed with it. The acting was mostly lousy, and the storyline is completely different to the original book. The film was exciting, with pretty good special effects, and heart-stopping stunts!

I would watch the film first, before reading the book.
I look forward to a sequel!

When fun-loving American agents Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner are called back from maternity leave for a special assignment in New Orleans, the spy parents decide to skip the sitter and give their bouncing baby girl the adventure of a lifetime. There's nothing to the dumb story about a deadly arms dealer (Fiona Shaw) in the Louisiana Bayou, but you'd be hard put to find a friskier pair of doting parents. Quaid is all dimpled grins and cocky cool and Turner is the most maternal martial arts mom you've ever seen, but Stanley Tucci almost steals the film as the hot-blooded threat thug Morty ("That's Muerte!"). His macho mission of vengeance becomes pure slapstick silliness punctuated by girlish squeals of alarm. Dumb? Sure, but the deft comic direction of Herbert Ross and bubbly chemistry of Quaid and Turner make Undercover Blues far more fun that it should be. --Sean Axmaker

    Description

Kathleen Turner and Dennis Quaid are "in top form [in] this winning comedy" (The Hollywood Reporter) about a couple of super spies persuaded out of maternity leave and into world-class espionage action! Co-starring Stanley Tucci, Park Overall and Tom Arnold, and set in atmospheric New Orleans, Undercover Blues is "guaranteed to leave you giddy and grateful" (The Houston Post)! Jeff and Jane Blue (Quaid and Turner) are the doting parents of a new baby girl. They also happen to be America's best chance at national security. Just as they embark on that perilous adventure known as parenting, they are asked to save the world from a treacherous arms embezzler. But are their martial-arts skills, cunning and high-tech know-how any match for a diabolic terrorist and aten-pound tyrant?

    5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2007-08-07

This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. If you like a good comedy, you'll love this. Everyone I know, who has seen this, gives it a thumbs up. You can't go wrong with this one.

    5 out of 5 stars A Keeper!.......2007-05-14

This is one of our favorite comedies. We quote lines from it all the time; "I saw it on PB-eus", "Tah-tah", "Mah name es Muerte-death". All the characters are cast well and the plot is fun. Where recent films are over once you've seen the trailer this one can be enjoyed over and over. It looks like everyone had a good time with it. The only sad thing is that it is set in New Orleans as it was before Katrina.

4 out of 5 stars Overlooked "Undercover Blues".......2007-04-30

1993's "Undercover Blues" pairs up Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner as recently retired spies and new parents, on maternity leave in New Orleans. Their characters seem unable, however, to avoid muggers, run-ins with skeptical police, and their former bosses, who want them to do one last mission. Despite their best efforts, they become enmeshed in an arms smuggling plot while juggling child care and the local police, who think they are criminals.

Lest this seem like a less than promising storyline, execution is everything. A persistant but hapless mugger, played to perfection by Stanley Tucci, tries to be a tough guy but repeatedly falls prey to the superior skills of Quaid and Turner and to his own clumsiness. Quaid and Turner thmeselves seem to a practiced routine down for every form of danger, from generating an instant but convincing cover story for each encounter with the police, to fending off muggers with martial arts and a baby carriage, to derailing the arms smuggling plot with comedic finese. Tom Arnold adds to the comedy in a nice supporting role.

This movie is highly recommended as an entertaining venture featuring lots of physical comedy and some believable chemistry between Quaid and Turner.

5 out of 5 stars The kind of movie you can see over and over again and it's still funny!.......2007-03-30

This is one of the funniest movies ever! My family and I watch it over and over again and we still laugh...and we've been watching it for years! I highly recommend this movie...I can't say enough good things about it.

    4 out of 5 stars Great movie.......2007-03-08

Easy watching flick. Not Turners greatest work. She seems very wooden at times. The running gag with Stanley Tucci is great. "My name is death. Don't you forget that scum hawks!" Tom Arnold is funny as the midwest dork. Watch for a bit part by Dave Chapplle as Ozzie the thief. Very enjoyable.

Packed with more than 750 dazzling visual effects, this $70 million adventure does more (and less) than give the 1965-68 TV series a state-of-the-art face-lift. Aimed at an audience that wasn't born when the series originally aired, the sci-fi extravaganza doesn't even require familiarity, despite cameo appearances by several of the TV show's original cast members. Instead it's a high-tech hybrid of the original premise with enough sensory overload to qualify as a spectacular big-screen video game, supported by a time-travel premise that's adequately clever but hardly original. It's certainly never boring, and visually it's an occasionally awesome demonstration of special effects technology. But in its attempt to be all things to all demographics, the movie's more of a marketing ploy than a satisfying adventure, thankfully dispensing with the TV show's cheesy camp but otherwise squandering a promising cast in favor of eye-candy and ephemeral storytelling. In keeping with the movie's high-tech appeal, the DVD is a feature-packed marvel, including two audio commentaries, deleted scenes, two featurettes covering special effects and the original TV series (featuring complete biographies and episode guides), the original screenplay, and interactive games. --Jeff Shannon

    2 out of 5 stars Good - Not Great.......2007-09-17

It could have been better, just by using story lines that have been used and re-used. That would have been more entertaining. Its based on the 1960's TV show and copies the events of the first episode, so they could have made a sequal that could have been better. The Robinson family launches into outerspace on a pro-longed foyage, only their course is altered because of excessive weight from a stow-away, the infamous, selfish and trouble making Dr. Smith. They wake early from stasis and know only that they don't know where they are. Great concept, just very poor execution.

3 out of 5 stars Would have been a good graphic novel.......2007-09-15

Keeping the same plot and dialog, and done in comic book form, Lost In Space would probably have been very good. Creatively, it had a lot on its side. Its vision of what future clothes and hardware will be like (besides the hyperdrive and the seemingly indestructable Jupiter 2) actually seems plausible and insightful. The time travel storyline may not be entirely consistent, but sets up some intruiging causality violation what-ifs, and the set design and lighting are interesting and occasionally evocative, if a bit too gloomy. The direction is efficient and fun and worthy of imitation and the score is worth buying. In other words, it had potential.

But then you hear the script spoken aloud and somehow it suddenly hits you how implausable large chunks of the story are and how badly the screenwriter's dialog translates to the screen. Also hindering the whole affair is the near ubiquitous bad acting. The only actors who truly do their jobs well are Gary Oldman and the two children. The film's computer generated space effects are imaginative but the technology of the time simply wasn't as good as model work, which is distracting. Meanwhile, the story plays havoc with physics, which is distracting to people who know anything above average about science, though this reviewer is willing to be forgiving with regards to that, simply because one gets the sense that the screenwriter at least thought he was doing the science justice.

Lost In Space isn't a bad movie and its not quite a good movie. So get some nachos, take it for what it is, and enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Big Budget Multi-Demographic.......2007-09-06

You have to judge this movie purely on it's own merits. Forget about what it's based on. I liked the actors but not the childish dialogue or the Mimi Rogers speeches. I liked the ambitious tone and look of the movie. The science is plausible tho highly improbable. Hyper space(higher dimensional space) and time travel(to the future) are theoretical concepts and most likely where they'll forever stay. Dr. Smith is an excellent scoundrel given contradictory lines. At first it's political belief and then it's 'evil knows evil'. Like I said, the dialogue in this film is very 'Hollywood'(catch phrases substituting for substance). The movie is too short. It never gives you a chance to savor. The cute little alien is never explained. Where did it come from ? How the heck did it get there ? The primary demographic is the 10 year old suburban kid but in targeting that demographic you also get the rest of the family because the kids can't drive themselves to the theatre. Ofcourse but through all it's obvious flaws, I still kind of like this movie. I also like the way the theme song was remade. Call it a visceral thing if you will but I won't be giving this one away anytime soon.

1 out of 5 stars Lost In The Re-write.......2007-04-12

I assume that at some point this project had a much better script than the final one in order to get William Hurt and others involved. I'll hold that in my mind as the only way they would get into this mess. It has action and special effects enough for 4 movies, but the plot i
