2 out of 5 stars Beyond Jaynes opening "leg" shot...........2005-12-16

There's not much this film can offer, unless its some cool-looking British sedans and OK to decent character actors. Quyale is utterly wasted. Jayne is, well, Jayne, and the plot is pretty weak. As far as the picture & sound quality, let's not even go there....

2 out of 5 stars Jayne's brilliant acting talent carries this one ... yeah, right!.......2005-10-03

So you thought that the advent of DVD would give us beautiful, clear copies and eliminate the trash that was floating around on some of the budget VHS labels? Think again. Don't be fooled by that very slick and professional-looking sleeve art. This is perhaps the poorest quality DVD transfer I've ever seen. Any enjoyment that might have been in the movie is ruined by the atrociously low quality of the sound & picture. It is strictly for die-hard collectors which is the only reason I'd keep a copy of it. It has every appearance of a third generation tape transfer from a TV broadcast or a very bad original print. Both the opening titles and the ending are cut short. Nothing is in focus and the sound is out of sync. The sound quality is simply awful. I can't say for sure, but the film seems to start somewhere well into the plot. Instead of its original 89 minute running time, this version comes in at 78 minutes. 11 minutes is a lot to cut from such a short film. The movie itself is only so-so and just isn't able to get beyond some pretty bad acting from Jayne and her equally untalented co-star, Carl Mohner, though maybe some bad cutting should take much of the blame. A valiant effort by the great Anthony Quayle and a first-rate supporting cast of British character actors just can't save it. There's really nothing to recommend this picture. If you need it to round out a collection then I'd advise you to buy a used copy (a good used copy or a bad used copy - makes no difference here ... a very good clue to the value of this DVD is that there are oodles of new and used copies available for less than $5). BEWARE! (a.k.a "The Challenge")

5 out of 5 stars RJ Forever!.......2007-08-15

Absolutely the best tv fare of my pre-teen years. Please release this fab show on dvd--

5 out of 5 stars So ready to buy the whole series.......2007-07-22

The plots could be far out but "Thief" was done so well, I could just willingly go with it. Each episode seemed like a big production, almost movie quality. Universal has been sitting on a gold mine. This classic series stands apart from all the rest. There was action and danger, but it wasn't an hour devoted to murder or sickening violence. And the comic relief was superb.

5 out of 5 stars Great show where is the dvds.............2007-07-21

It Takes a Thief was a mid season replacement on the ABC network. I think it was replacing The Invaders. As an earlier reviewer commented ITAF was like the American version of The Saint. The show was smart, plots are always complex requiring Mundy's specialty - to steal something or someone. As always the humor was the most important part of the show. The show became much darker in its last season. The loss of Noah Bain was a big part of it,the interplay between Mundy & Bain was essential to the show. This show is better than the 2 later series Wagner appear in (Switch & Hart to Hart). So come on Universal bring on the dvds!!!

5 out of 5 stars Robert Wagner was and still is COOL DUDE!!!!!!!1.......2007-03-29

Growing up in the 70's, i can remember watching this show a lot. The scene that stays with me is in the pilot movie, Alexander Mundy(Robert Wagner always looking great, and he still does) decides he's ready to leave prison so dressed as a priest(you must see it to believe it) he walks out only to here that the Goverment wants to offer him a deal,so he breaks back into the prison! With great stuff like this the show was a blast to watch and always had cool scenes of the "break in". If we can get shows like lost in space(not a bad show but not as good as this one) then lets get this great show on DVD PLEASE!!!!!!!
