Not bad.......2007-08-29
I enjoyed Facing the Giants, so I decided to rent Flywheel. It's not bad. Since it's Sherwood Baptist Church's first movie, and they were working with amateur cast and crew, I can forgive the camcorder type feel it has. Aside from the lack of technical proficiency (which improved greatly during Facing the Giants), it's a fairly decent movie. It felt a bit preachy (FTG was a lot preachier than this one), but I did like the fact that the main character's transformation seemed authentic. In addition, although I'm not for the "gospel of prosperity," it is refreshing to see a movie that shows that sometimes miracles can happen when one truly commits him/herself to their God (although I'm Christian, I believe there are other paths to God in addition to Christianity). I also felt refreshed to see a movie without profanity, sexual inuendos (or explicit sex), and so forth. I would feel comfortable showing this one (and FTG) to people of all ages. Even though I don't necessarily believe the message both movies try to send (I'm not fundamentalist, but am more moderate in my theology), I am still relieved to see a movie that sends a positive message. I hope their third film will have more of a mixed ending, instead of neat and tidy endings (like this one and FTG has), since life is more mixed than it is neat and tidy. Still, kudos to the congregation/movie team for two good efforts.
Excellent!.......2007-08-16
This is Alex Kendrick's first movie. It is obviously a low budget production, but it is amazingly GOOD!! The characters are very realistic and the movie has a good message. The world doesn't seem to understand the reality of the Christian culture. For me, Flywheel and Facing the Giants depicted every day life with its problems. I didn't realize Facing the Giants was done by the same group when I first saw it (or I would have seen it sooner). Considering the budget for Flywheel was probably almost non-existent, it's a great film. It's good to see that Kendrick was able to move onto Facing the Giants and do a first rate production in every way. I'm waiting for more.
for people who dont like movies ONLY!.......2007-08-04
first off, let kme say that i am a Christian. i am not a fundamentalist, though, and i certainly do not find any Christian culture to be of much value. if you just happen upon this film, then bear in mind that for most who watch this, and will be reviewing it, it is an agenda for them. if you do not believe that 'hollywood' is the cause of all world evil, and recognize that while the entertainment industry does churn out a lot of bad movies, there is a certain amount of thoughtful, intelligent, entertaining film and tv out there, then you will find nothing at all of value in this film except for a really REALLY adorable baby near the end, which is not enough motivation for most people to rent or buy this film.
fyi, the acting is bad, like reading the dialogue off cue cards bad. the plot is predictable, and the production value, well, of little value.
i dont want to hammer these people. i dont believe that Christianity necessarily dooms a project to poor quality, however, to people who have bought into the cultural extremism preached by fundamentalists over the years and believe that nonsense, then none of this will matter. they ONLY care about the values and themes in this thing. some will even tell you that it is better than anything 'hollywood' can make. dont believe it. this will only work on people who cry when they see someone praying. if there were some opwerful writing in this film, which there isnt, it would bve difficult for anyone w/o an agenda to be affected b/c of the poor acting and terrible sound.
for the target audience for this movie, none of it will matter. they will sit through it and cry and tell people things like 'the acting is great!' (remember, Christians are NOT supposed to bear false witness!) and wouldnt care if it were shot on a 1/2" vhs camcorder...funny, that puts them in the same category as people who watch porn, and there are similarities(so hungry for their material they could care less about quality)
this is a bad movie, amateurish in every respect, and worse than just about all student films you will see. however, i am certain the people involved are nice and have the best intentions. when people get all crazy and start comparing this with REAL movies, then i just find it necessary to step in and say 'HEY! acting, camerawork, sound, script, pacing, editing, and any other film craft...all of it IS important in a movie, no matter how much you liie what the movie is saying (and porn fans, you should be listening to this too!)
if you are not part of the agenda put forth by this film, or you dont personally know someone involved in the production, you will be hard pressed to make it through. if you are in those groups, then things like quality just wont matter, now, will they?
don't believe anypne who raves about this thing...they just hate movies. if you dont, then this is not for you.
EXCELLENT...BETTER THAN FACING THE GIANTS.......2007-07-29
This movie is wonderful and very inspiring! I liked it better than Facing the Giant and cried from beginning to end! I watched my dads but now want to buy one of my own.
Excellent Film.......2007-07-10
My husband and I have watched this film at least seven times in the past year and given the DVD as a gift to several others as well as loaned out our own copy. It is an excellent film, if the message is what makes it, and should be seen. Everyone we have shared this with has come back to thank us diligently.

Should be seen by everyone in sales........2007-09-17
As a real estate agent, I viewed this movie at the request of my husband who found it inspirational. As we all know, the real estate market is dropping more and more each day, but as I viewed the film, I realized that I am not going through this alone. As the main character turned to the bible for answers, I also did the same thing. And I believed. My phone began to ring and I started taking out buyers who were not concerned about the prices of homes. I started writing offers again. I love this film and I no longer go through my life's jouney alone. This film will make you laugh, cry, think and believe. Do not pass this film over, like I almost did. Watch it and implement the messages it delivers and your world will become a more positive and tranquil place to live.

This film should be seen by all - often. Like "Facing the Giants", it is a look at how we often attempt to plan and direct our own lives but, as is written in the book of Jeremiah:"O Lord, I know it is not within the power of man to map his life and plan his course-- so you correct me, Lord; but please be gentle. Don't do it in your anger, for I would die. Jer 10:23-24 (TLB). Enjoy...
