The Lone Gunmen was the short-lived spin-off series starring those scene-stealing conspiracy theorists from The X-Files. To recap, there is buttoned-down Byers (the bearded, relatively normal-looking one, played by Bruce Harwood), the "man of action" Frohike (the short one who had the hots for Scully, played by Tom Braidwood), and master hacker Langly (the one with the long blond hair, played by Dean Haglund). They also meet some new characters who both help and hinder: a female agent calling herself Yves Adele Harlow (and other anagrams for Lee Harvey Oswald, played by Zuleikha Robinson), who always seems a step ahead of them, and James "Jimmy" Bond (Stephen Snedden), the dimwitted benefactor who thinks that the Gunmen give him a purpose in life.
The series lasted a mere 13 episodes, and in retrospect probably plays better now than it did in the spring of 2001 when the peak years of The X-Files were still fresh in the memory. Thanks to direction and writing by the same creative talent and music by Mark Snow, The Lone Gunmen has the feel of Chris Carter's signature series, though without the impenetrable mythology and the sexual tension (Robinson is beautiful, but let's be serious). The episodes are generally stand-alone affairs reflecting the goofy humor that made the trio part of the comic relief in The X-Files. Light-hearted topics include a blind football team and a super-intelligent chimpanzee, but the closing episode dealt with the familiar themes of alien abduction and government cover-ups (a thread that after the series' cancellation had to be concluded in an episode of The X-Files, which is also included in this set). And particularly chilling is the pilot: aired six months before 9/11, it deals with an attempt to fly an airplane into the World Trade Center. The Lone Gunmen couldn't match the brilliant inspiration of The X-Files (few shows could), but for fans it might just be the next best thing. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
Another great show cancelled by FOX.......2007-09-08
Don't let its early demise fool you, The Lone Gunmen is a great series that flawlessly balanced dangerous missions with quirky humor. Lighter in mood and tone than the X-Files, the gunmen are perfectly cast as idealistic, paranoid, and fearless journalists ever searching for the truth. This DVD has some nice extras, although the commentary is a bit teasing as the actors keep mentioning deleted scenes and bloopers that they hope made the DVD--unfortunately there are no deleted scenes or bloopers in this collection, but the series is funny enough without it. The storylines, music, and guest stars, which include a few X-Files alums, are all brilliant. As for my favorite part, that would be Dean Haglund (who plays my favorite gunman, Langly) giving his own theory on whether or not the gunmen may be back.
X-Files: THE EXPANSION PACK.......2007-09-01
The comic relief of X-Files (not to mention the series' homage to us nerds and geeks that constituted its core fan-base) finally got their own series.
It started with the best of intentions - but you know what they say about exactly those paving the road to hell...
Bad and unimaginative writing, this is the story of a TV series left to roll on its hyped momentum. It did not roll far.
Another proof that the Best TV is ALWAYS based on great writing. Missing that, nothing can save a series.
Rent it for the memories. A fun weekend.
Awful scriptwriting, a disappointment .......2007-08-30
Took a chance on this since I enjoyed the Lone Gunmen on X-Files, but what a disappointment.
Don't bother to order. A waste of money.
The Lone Gunmen Not Alone In TV Land.......2007-08-28
These guys were very funny and I dont think the writer should have stopped the series because of 9/11
I think Chris Carter should again start this series on TV or at least make a movie.. same with The X-Files
They Were Interesting Sidekicks for Fox Mulder.......2007-08-24
The Lone Gunmen was a nice spin off of the X-files that fans should have enjoyed for what it was worth. If you were an X-Files fan and own the entire X-Files collection of box sets you should own this one as well. The short series made an excellent transfer to DVD.

BORED.......2005-02-22
I rented this movie from Hollywood Video. It was a struggle not to turn it off and watch the news. The movie was cheaply made and the acting is mediocre. It is insulting to our intelligence by trying to make us believe what is happening could be reality.
They try hard to conceal the identity of the vigilante for most of the picture. The vigilante knows when and where anything bad is about to happen.
Our detective hero finally catches up to the vigilante just after the vigilante wipes out a bad man. The detective having the drop on this killer and instead of revealing the identity of this super person says go away.
There are many sequences just as unbelievable as this.
Description
Never before available on home video, this 1950 suspense classic has been restored from the original 35mm fine grain masters with 7 censored shots reinstated for the first time since its release. Also known as "Gangster at Bay" and "Time Running Out," this gripping film noir boasts an all-star pedigree: director Frank Tuttle (This Gun For Hire, The Glass Key), stars Simone Signoret (Diabolique, Room at the Top) and Dane Clark (The Glass Key, Destination Tokyo), producer Victor Pahlen (Edgar Ulmer's "Pirates of Capri"), and cinematographer Eugen Schufftan (Ulmer's "Bluebeard," "Eyes Without a Face," "The Hustler"), filmed on location in Paris with a brilliant musical score by Joe Hajos. This film was remade in 1975 as "La Traque." Dane Clark plays an escaped gangster struggling to flee Paris as the police dragnet closes around him, with his former lover Simone Signoret caught in the crossfire. Another thrilling entry in All Day Entertainment's Pulp Cinema Collection, rescuing the lost treasures of film noir!
Customer Reviews:
good noir.......2005-03-30
Like in Borzage's Moonrise, Dane Clark plays an unlikable angry criminal named Eddy. Eddy is an escaped prisoner who goes to his girlfriend Simone Signoret (the excellent French actress who starred in such classics as Diabolique and Room at the Top) for financial help and a getaway. Since his capture Simone has tried to rebuild her life, even getting involved in a relationship with a reporter who got a false scoop from her. Despite the fact that the reporter respects her and she is nothing more than a doormat to Eddy, Simone finds to difficult to change.
This isn't a masterpiece of film noir but it's a nice example. It's directed moodily by Frank Tuttle (This Gun for Hire) but the fine performances by the leads is really the reason to watch.
Description
Is a sensitive and mysterious poet really an IRA gunman in hiding? Set in a Dublin tenement in the 1920's, The Shadow of a Gunman was the first part of Sean O'Casey's celebrated "Dublin Trilogy." Equal parts comedy and tragedy, this classic play is brilliantly performed by a stellar cast including Frank Converse, and Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, Mr. Holland's Opus).
Customer Reviews:
"I know what you are--a gunman on the run.".......2005-01-17
Starring Frank Converse as Donal Davoren, Jack MacGrowan as his friend Seumas Shields, Sandra Morgan as Minnie Powell, and a very young Richard Dreyfuss as Tommy Owens, this 1972 production of Sean O'Casey's 1923 play shows the work of a gifted but still inexperienced playwright. The first of Sean O'Casey's "Dublin Trilogy" to be produced (followed by Juno and the Paycock in 1924, and The Plough and the Stars in 1926), the play is set in 1920, after the Irish battle for independence has begun.
Minnie Powell, Seumas, and the other residents of a Dublin tenement all side with the rebels and assume that Davoren, a poet, is an IRA gunman on the run. Seumas is actively involved with the rebels, using his work as a peddler of second-hand goods to make connections and carry information. Gunfire is constant at night, bombs go off, citizens are killed, and the British police raid houses. During a disturbance the night of the action, Minnie takes a bag of bombs, left under the bed by one of Seumas's friends, into her own room to protect Donal, to whom she is attracted, only to face the police in a raid.
Walking the tight line between the absurd/satiric and the violent/tragic, the play has relatively little action onstage, with most of the play consisting of witty remarks, poetic commentary, and the dialogue of daily life. Converse as Davoren and MacGrowan as Shields work hard to give life to characters who have little dramatic action. Visits by the landlord, a young, hero-worshipping Tommy Owens (Dreyfuss), the flirting Minnie, an IRA bomb-maker, and other tenants change the mood throughout the act and establish the 1920 Dublin atmosphere, though they do not develop character significantly. The flirtation of Minnie (Morgan) and Davoren (Converse) looks and feels artificial.
Most of the first act is a setup for the second, which takes place at night, with gunfire in the distance and the British police raiding the house. The poetry of Davoren contrasts with the grim reality of the gun battle outside, and the elegantly poetic language of the always-sleepy Shields with the brutality of the police, as O'Casey features the men who engage in the chess game of rebellion while the women often make the sacrifices. O'Casey's message about the "excitement" of war is conveyed primarily through language, and not action, despite the actors' best efforts. Directed by Joseph Hardy, the play is a good introduction to the more complex and dramatically effective plays which follow it, and the cast is stellar. Mary Whipple

Mann plays Sebastian, a black-clad gunfighter searching for a killer in order to avenge his father's murder. While being dragged into a web of deceit, Sebastian falls in love with the beautiful Anna (Luciana Paluzzi), whose own past contains some startling revelations as well.
