I won't buy this version.......2007-08-30
MGM did a great job on "Creature" which I just purchased. I will wait and buy "Beast" when a decent production is released on DVD. This won't see any of my dollars.
This dvd version I rated 3 stars because it in cut and not the entire movie.......2007-08-23
I really loved this movie in its original TV mini series form which was played in two days when it was first shown on TV. This dvd shows that is it 120 mins, which means it is the direct transfer from the vhs version and has some really good scenes cut out of it. Like when William Petersen's character Whip Dalton gets drunk. They also cut out most of the relationship between Whip Dalton and Lt. Kathryn Marcus played by Karen Sillas which added to the story to make it well rounded. Thus, my rating of 3 stars instead of 5 stars. It is more choppy and you can see something is missing from the story.
**** To Those who distrabute and own the rights to the movie please release the UNCUT version for those of us who enjoy a well rounded story. ****
Thank you. I hope this review helps.
Lots of Adventure.......2007-08-16
I can't beleive this movie was released so under the radar. I've been waiting for it to come out on DVD for ages.
It doen't even have a picture on this website and there was no effort made to premote it; even with "CSI'S" William Petersen as the main character.
I love this movie or mini series as it may be. There is so much action and adventure in it and it is just a lot of fun.
I live in Australia where the film was made and still have to wait for the DVD to come out here but American's should totally come on board and Buy this DVD.
There is so much suspense and so much great acting, you'll be hanging till the last moment.
The idea of the beast is so exciting and you'll never look at the ocean the same way again.
The Beast is the coolest Tv mini-series ever!

Scooby-Doo and the loch Ness Monster.......2007-05-07
My kids love Scooby! They watch this over and over again. They especially like the music and that everyone talks with a Scottish accent.
If your kid is a fan of Scooby Doo, this movie is great.......2006-07-05
My 5 year old picked this movie as well as another Scooby Doo DVD when spending his gift certificate. He and his brother have watched it at least 20 times since then. It's not as scary as some of the others, and the DVD extras are pretty cool. He loves it, and actually quotes it on occasion!
Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster.......2006-02-20
My daughter is 4 and she LOVES this movie. While some of the newer Scooby Doo movies can be scary for her, this one isn't and is a constant source of entertainment. I have seen a few of the Scooby Doo movies from this time period and think this is the best I have seen so far. Great movie, highly recommended!
fun movie for scooby fans!.......2006-01-25
I was reading the previous reviews for Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster, and I think most of them are pretty harsh! My three young children have just discovered Scooby Doo, and I've rediscovered it through them. I like the new Scooby movies and this one is one of our favorites. We really enjoy the music on this Scooby outing! My daughter often likes to listen to the song that plays over the main menu screen and wants me to let her listen to it all the way through before I start the movie for her! I was actually perusing Amazon to see if I could find the soundtrack for her. (I can't, unfortunately!) This is a fun movie that your kids will enjoy watching again and again.
Scooby not at his best.......2005-12-06
I personally thought this video was lacking. My children are avid Scooby fans and they weren't that fond of this one. There have been better Scooby Doo's made. I think they should have put a little more thought and effort into this one before releasing it.

This 1970 Billy Wilder comedy-drama about a major defeat in the career of Sherlock Holmes may have little to do with the legacy of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but in its uncut form it happens to be one of the finest films of the decade. Robert Stephens makes a perfectly splendid Holmes, brilliant, sophisticated, and deeply flawed, while Colin Blakely plays Dr. Watson as a drinker and ladies' man with more personality and intelligence than is often granted him by filmmakers. The case (which has some echoes of Doyle's story "The Bruce-Partington Plans") begins with Holmes aiding the distressed Madame Valladon (Geneviève Page), who is searching for her missing husband. The inquiry shifts to Scotland, and despite a stern warning from the hero's brother, Mycroft Holmes (Christopher Lee), Sherlock pursues events that reveal a top-secret government plan. Lush, energetic, funny, gorgeous to look at, and ultimately tragic, the film is layered with Wilder's familiar collision of cynicism and yearning, hope and betrayal, grace and isolation. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:
Classic tongue in cheek comedy!.......2007-08-07
This was very well done but better suited to SH fans. Christopher Lee was unrecognisable in his part as Microft! I think he is the highlight of the Special Features section where he gives a talk about his career, the cinema, directors and Billy Wilder. Such a fine gentleman, he has always supported the cinema. He's the only actor to have played both Sherlock and Microft. Amazingly he acted free of charge in "The Wicker Man"---one of his very best parts. I recommend both of these films.
Wilder missed the BOAT !.......2007-05-23
For all true Sherlock Holmes affectionados ala Rathbone and Brett, this flick with Robert Stephens, (Holmes) and Colin Blake, (Dr. Watson) fails to fulfill its promise. Written, produced and directed by Billy Wilder (normally 5 star work)Lengthy viewing time (125 minutes). When trying to extend the work of masters, as often happens in the past, over done, over acting and over plotted. Not what Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had in mind, I think?
Fans of Holmes should like it, others not so sure.......2007-03-17
There are many stories about the making of this movie. Some say the final result was far from the great Billy Wilder's vision as the "evil" studio heads drove him to tears by chopping up the film to create a shorter, theater-friendly version. Others say Wilder became disenchanted with the film as time went on and the end result proves he just wanted to get it over and done with. Whatever the truth may be, I think fans of the novels and Wilder may find some enjoyment in this. Others may turn it off after the first 20 minutes.
The finished film is really two stories. The first has to do with Wilder attempting to make light of the "real" relationship between Holmes and Watson. In 1970, this "Are they gay?" storyline was something daring. Today, it is tame and boring. Hence the idea those first 20 minutes may be tough to sit through even if a few laughs are provided along the way. But fortunately the main story kicks into gear and provides what I think is everlasting enjoyment. The characters and mystery all come to vivid life and though, as some have mentioned, the ending may not be for everyone's taste, the ride is an awful lot of fun.
EXTRAS: I found the extras hard to sit through. Christopher Lee is interviewed and does have some tidbits about the shooting of the film but for the most part talks about his previous incarnations of Holmes. There is also an interview with an editor that drones on and on. I tried sitting thru the attempt to rebuild the so called "lost footage" using storyboards, pictures, and script lines but alas, after a while I hit the stop button on this as well. I guess it is nice these were included but what I felt was missing was the actual story of what Wilder was really trying to accomplish with this movie. Others may get it, I just did not.
I would say buy this movie if you are a Holmes fan just to see something a bit unusual. Although this film may not completely come together, this may be an example of a movie where the parts are indeed better than the whole.
The Real Sherlock.......2007-01-09
Very funny if a little uneven comedy with a rather weak ending. The scene between Holmes and the Prima Ballerina is brilliantly funny as is the fall-out from this with Dr. Watson. This movie for me is really underated and is a classic. The plot is driven by Holmes ambivalent sexuality never quite being defined. Irene Handl's Mrs Hudson "Mrs Hudson go downstairs find a cloth and wipe that look of disapproval off your face" - is a great comedic performance
A neglected Billy Wilder gem.......2006-09-02
In Billy Wilder's melancholy THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (1970), Robert Stephens is Holmes and Colin Blakely is Dr. Watson. It is a wonderful creation by Wilder--a mysterious woman (Genevieve Page) calling herself Gabrielle Valledon arrives at 221B Baker Street having pulled out of the Thames. Obviously not whom she claims to be, which is half the fun here and all of the romance in a very romantic Wilder film, Madame Valledon leads Holmes and Watson by train into the Scottish highlands. There they will tangle with midget anarchists and seemingly the Loch Ness monster; Queen Victoria makes a memorable cameo. Oh, and of course there is the 7% cocaine solution never to be found in a Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes movie.
This is a gorgeously made movie, from the art direction and Panavision cinematography, to a towering score by Miklos Rozsa. Stephens and Blakely seem born to play Holmes and Watson. The movie was conceived, in a roadshow movie age, at 200 minutes. Several mini stories would be like entrees before the Loch Ness monster main course. But Wilder and editor Ernest Walter sensibly and skillfully pruned the finished movie to a tight 125 minutes with just one "entree" before the main action.
The DVD is a "must own" for all Sherlock Holmes devotees because of its bonuses--a chat with Christopher Lee, who plays Mycroft Holmes; an in-depth conversation with editor Walter on what the original roadshow movie was really like; and, most of all, a Deleted Scenes section that is at least 90 minutes long, making it longer than the entire cut footage. In this bonus section MGM Home Entertainment has done a masterful job of re-creating the 200 minute movie with existing footage, production stills, and screenplay pages where nothing else exists. Missing are the soundtrack of the Case of the Naked Honeymooners---the visual exists and subtitles supply the missing soundtrack. Production stills and screenplay pages make up a totally extraneous and boring original prologue. A five minute flashback to Holmes at Oxford is a mixture of existing visual and screenplay pages; it was cut near the end of the movie and missed by me. And the rather silly Case of the Upside-Down Room has production stills and screenplay pages for footage totally lost.
I'm of the minority opinion that Wilder and Walter created a masterpiece in trimming away the extraneous stories, leaving one intact with Clive Revill and Russian dancers, and focusing entirely on the mystery of Gabrielle Valledon and the Loch Ness monster. THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is another Billy Wilder masterpiece. one with a haunting sadness and melancholy romance to make it very special. And Rozsa's score is one of his absolute greatest. Totally neglected in 1970, the movie deserves major rediscovery a quarter of a century later.

Nothing is quite as it seems in Incident at Loch Ness, an entertaining pseudo-documentary comment on cinematic fakery. Conceived and directed by Hollywood screenwriter Zak Penn, this half-clever ruse begins with a master-stroke by casting German director Werner Herzog as himself, preparing to film a documentary about Scotland's mysterious Loch Ness monster. As this film-within-a-film is chronicled by a documentary crew led by renowned cinematographer John Bailey, "producer" Penn rises to apparently impossible heights of ineptitude, until it becomes obvious (indeed, it's the film's near-fatal flaw) that there is no "reality" here at all--just a very amusing pile-up of falsehoods. Penn's onto something good here, and Herzog is by far the film's greatest asset, maintaining a credible commitment to the ruse with a hilarious and fiercely believable performance. Still, the ideas at play are better than Penn's execution of them, so you'll have to play along, in Blair Witch fashion, even after the film's ploy becomes clear. Penn and Herzog provide a worthwhile commentary track, adding another layer of observation to Penn's multilayered con game. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Incident at Loch Ness chronicles the story of the making (an unmaking) of acclaimed director, Werner Herzog's film. Herzog's stated intent was "to explore the origin and the necessity of the monster" rather than to look for the creature itself. Shocking, controversial and strangely humorous, the film raises many questions about where reality ends and fiction begins.
Customer Reviews:
"In Search Of" meets "This is Spinal Tap".......2007-08-10
The one thing that kept me from giving this film four stars was the "Blair Witch"-like sense of doom hanging over the survivors clinging to the sinking boat in the last sequences. (I'm not giving anything away: one of the first shots is of floating wreckage and a body at the beginning). The last scenes made me wonder what a serious film of a darker threat under Loch Ness would play like.
But otherwise, this is still a pretty funny mockumentary that had laugh-outloud moments, usually involving the obnoxious "producer" making incredibly stupid statements or clashing with film director Werner Herzog. That Herzog has dealt with crazy people on film before--like maniac Klaus Kinski in "My Best Fiend" and nutjob Timothy Treadwell in "Grizzly Man"--makes him a perfect choice as the harried voice of reason trying to work with someone way over their head. Herzog's reactions to super babe Kitana jumping into the loch in a string bikini or walking in on the producers with their fake monster are hilarious.
Is this for everyone? I have no idea. The sudden shifts in tone, from serious documentary in the first third, to Spinal Tap-like hilarity on the loch in the middle, to the final third in a foggy danger, might throw off most people...but I liked it.
(It might help if you see "My Best Fiend" and "Grizzly Man" first, although both of those films are serious documentaries--and funny in their own way!)
Ink Plot Test Movie.......2007-07-29
This film is a test of the viewer's intelligence and insider knowledge of the movie business. You can chart yours by just when you figure it out. I was watching on the Independent Cinema Channel and it seemed to be a legitimate documentary until they were out on the water, which is to say I would not chart very high.
It's Blair Witch made by intelligent honest talents, basically. And as with that film there may be some who would believe it until the circus music credits. And others who are insulted that Herzog and his director are saying, yes you are exactly that stupid.
Hopefully they will make a mockumentary on the last two national elections too.
Herzog would not make much of King Lear but playing himself he is largely brilliant.
Unwatchable.......2006-11-26
Never have I seen a film so painfully unenjoyable as *Incident at Loch Ness,* and I say this as a fan of Werner Herzog's oeuvre. *Aguirre, the Wrath of God* and *The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser are magisterial works, and Herzog's performance in Harmony Korine's Julien Donkey-boy is mesmerizing.
But this film, I'm afraid to say, is an unendurable bore. Overwhelmed by its rather maladroit attempt at postmodern cheekiness, obvious in its staging, derivative in its conceit, this film I turned off right at the point, some thirty minutes into the film, when a bizarre -- and, for someone of Herzog's stature, embarrassing -- stab at some sort of sophomoric humor involving a Bikini Team bimbo occured.
I have not the slightest idea how or why Herzog came to involve himself in this debacle, but, I have to say, it was quite sad to see his trading on his fame this way.
Therefore, if you know little about Herzog and his films, but are interested in knowing more, see *Grizzly Man,* see *The Burden of Dreams,* see *My Best Fiend,* and, for heaven's sake, stay far, far away from *Incident at Loch Ness,* lest you form a low opinion of an otherwise brilliant filmmaker.
So Bizarre It Works.......2006-08-12
I'm NOT a fan of mockumentaries however `Incident At Loch Ness' is the type of humor so very twisted it works. If anyone had told me what this film was about I wouldn't have seen it. But I'm glad I did. Have no fear, `Incident At Loch Ness' is hysterical!!!
I'm NOT a fan of "reality" TV either. `Incident' works because it is so very silly and knows it, mocking itself. While "reality" shows never embrace their own humor. The fact that `Survivor' was fake yet the audience didn't get it and still defends it as "real" proves mockumentaries are a risky genre. (For those of you still hanging on to the "reality" of `Survivor', please explain how more than one actor played the same character.)
The plot: Artsy German filmmaker Werner Herzog teams up with GenXer Zak Penn to film a documentary in Scotland about the Loch Ness monster, `Enigma of Loch Ness'. Werner takes the art of film very seriously approaching the project with great professionalism. This puts him at great odds with Zak who is treating everything as a joke.
Out on the lake hero Werner and villain Zak come to deadly blows when Werner realizes the ship's sonar operator is a Playmate, their scientist is an unpaid actor, and Zak has created animatronic monsters to appear in the lake. Werner is disgusted that Zak has betrayed the art of his documentary.
But Zak defends his actions to the grave, literally when the ship is attacked by the real Loch Ness monster and kills two crew members.
The humor doesn't end there! A totally separate second film exists in the audio commentary and Werner and Zak look back and argue anew. The two pretend they are in a lawsuit.
`Incident at Loch Ness' goes down as a risky film with very dark humor. Werner takes the situation seriously, making us laugh at how absurd this all is. Zak takes the situation as a joke, making us laugh at how anyone could take the (fictional) seriousness of the situation as a joke.
As a final mind fxxx, `Incident at Loch Ness' was marketed as a REAL documentary NOT a comedy. My video store had it under listed un "documentary."
HIlarious Spoof.......2006-07-29
This has to be one of the most hilariously perplexing, obviously phony movies I've ever stumbled across. So much more intriguing than your average run-of-the-mill mockumentary. Werner Herzog is so engaging a personality, when he says he's going to "hunt down" Zak and strangle him with his two hands, the statement is so simple and delivered with such a deadpan expression, the irony of Zak pulling a gun on Herzog, the bikini clad "sonar operator", and Herzog's sheer magnetism makes the film worth seeing. Any "fan" would love the opportunity to watch Herzog schlumping across the sinking bow of a boat, hosting a pre-production dinner party while worrying that the exotic tuber he has prepared may still be too toxic to eat, or simply listen to him speak, in the finale, about the film as "a stillborn child that simply didn't want to come to life". "The truth...seemed vulgar and pointless."
The film itself I found myself laughing out loud to - anyone who takes this thing seriously enough to write a poor review of it simply doesn't have a sense of the absurd. When I think of all the acclaim for something as insipid as (the previously mentioned) "Blair Witch Project", I have to admit I just don't get those kind of viewers at all.

Sweet family film.......2007-09-13
I happened to catch this film on television on a cool, rainy Sunday Afternoon and knew I had to buy it for my "keepers" collection of DVDs to watch again and share with others. My heart really resides in the U.K. - only my body is here in the U.S. to carry on day to day. This is a sweet story -- the little girl charmed me so. Ted Danson is just Ted Danson, okay, nothing spectacular there. The scenery is heart-warming, and the Scot's accents cheered my soul. A nice family film.

Great Family Film!.......2007-05-12
I saw this movie first on broadcast TV, a place many discover great "B" movies for the first time.
But beyond the plot, beyond the charming photography of Loch Ness locales, beyond the excellent roles played by everyone in the cast, the thing that made me HAVE to own this movie is the unexpectedly charming accent and mannerisms of the real "star" of this movie, "Isabel Mary McFetridge" played by Kirsty Graham. So winsome is this bright red-haired girl of eight years in this film, it is hard to imagine the movie having the same charm with any other child actor. And the fact that Kirsty was not a professional actress prior to being cast in the film may be why all of her dear mannerisms are unlikely to have been "directed," she is just winsome naturally.
Ted Danson played a somewhat disgraced professor/researcher and "seeker of unusual phenomena." He is the man who COULDN'T find Sasquatch, proof of UFOS or any other of the "quests" he pursued. His reputation is more as a laughing stock at this point, and he only reluctantly agrees to go searching after "one more folly," (the Loch Ness Monster) when he is told he only has to prove it "ISN'T there." He is to take state of the art sonar and imaging equipment, scan the Loch with it, and prove the Loch Ness monster is a complete fable. He figures it should be easy to prove this type of negative, and heads for Scotland to "do his job, then get out of Dodge."
Performances by Ian Holm (Lord of the Rings) as the "Water Bailiff" and Joely Richardson (playing mother of Isabel) round out the main roles, but the large blue eyed "Isabel" steals the show.
This is a "must see" film that leaves you cheering at the end. You'll want to buy this one because you're going to want to re-savor the sweet gaelic charm of this film many times over. It's a "keeper."
A captivating film about Loch Ness that will make you Believe .......2007-04-15
I first saw the movie "Loch Ness" when it was on TV and I have to say that it looks so much better on DVD especially without the commercial interruptions in between scenes and the picture is much clearer than when I first saw it on TV in 1996. The film stars Ted Danson as a down on his luck cryptozoologist who despite several failed attempts to find other mysterious legends in the world and in the mist of a bad marriage with a lawsuit thrown in, he is finally given the one in a million chance to redeem himself professionally by going to Loch Ness at the request of his employer to prove that the legendary monster that haunts the Loch is a ridiculous hoax. After arriving there he discovers that there's more to his plum assignment that first meets the eye, literally. Throughout his quest to find the mysterious monster that the world has come to know as "Nessie" Danson's character John Dempsey comes across wacky and sometimes completely irate locals who appose his study of the lake and his bad bedside manner. However, along the way there is no shortage of adventure for Dr. Dempsey in the form of unexpected clashes with other boats on the loch and the rather violent sinking of his research vessel by a territorial Nessie who miraculously saves him from a near drowning in one harrowing scene in the movie. But there are a few friendly and charming characters in the film to help keep Dempsey from going off the deep end in his pursuit for answers. One of the most memorable was the little girl Isabell and her mother played by Joey Richardson who help open John's eyes and his heart in very unique ways to the mysteries of their home and the haunting lake that serves as the family's backyard. In 1998 my dad and I took a trip to Scotland to tour Loch Ness and what I found interesting when I went there was that only fifteen minutes of the film was actually shot on location at Loch Ness. The rest of the film was shot at another loch nearby called Loch Torridan. The filmmakers thought that Loch Torridan looked more like Loch Ness than Loch Ness does itself. I'm not going to comment on their decision to do so, even though after seeing the real Loch Ness and comparing the scenery in the film, it's easy to see that they were shooting in different locations for the film but that's beside the point. In conclusion, Loch Ness is definitely worth a look you won't be disappointed. The story is good, the scenery in the film is beautiful, the acting behind each of the characters was excellent and the animatronic dinosaurs for the film were the most believable Lake monsters that I've ever seen portrayed in a movie of this genre. If you're lucky the film might just inspire you to go see the real Loch Ness and if you're hoping to snap a photo of Nessie just remember what the little girl says in the film, "You have to believe in it before you can see it." After seeing this film with an open mind I assure you that you won't have any trouble believing what's there for yourself.
Good, solid Nessie movie.......2006-10-19
Funny. I find a lot of nice little films by just being my lazy self and watching TV. Awesome. So I ended up surfing around and came upon......LOCH NESS! Now I'm a fan of anything with monsters in it, big, small, fat, stupid, smart ect. I also think Danson is a great actor. So when I saw this I decided to watch it. It was actually pretty good. Now I came in about 10 minutes into the movie and had no idea who directed it. I was pretty surprised I was entertained. I liked the twist on it, they don't portray Nessie as most movies would, i.e. a giant monster eating everything in sight.
The acting's pretty good along with the direction. The effects are not bad either. One thing I deeply Disliked was the ending. I was in a bad mood which didn't help, but I was kinda hoping for the government and Nessie to go blow to blow.......I know. I'm a horrid person. I felt it was a bit of a cop-out, but that doesn't detract everything from this movie.
Overall if you want a good, family film that you and the kids can watch get this. It isn't as good as some of the other family films out there, but its a heck of a lot better than most.

An Interestng 70s documentary.......2007-09-01
We don't see many like this anymore. It is in the same vein as some of the old Schick Sunn Classic films like Mysterious Monsters. If what we see is right then there is something worthy of investigation there. This film shows some good starts on that road
Product Description
Narrator Arthur Franz takes you on journey of exploration and discovery, in The Legend Of Loch Ness. This in-depth documentary examines all things "Nessie", with interviews, little known facts, and rare images of the elusive creature. You'll meet people who have spent countless hours attempting to prove the existence of the beast - those who have made it their hobby, and some who have made it their life's work. Theories which might explain the mystery of the creature are explained by experts in the field. And at the conclusion, you will see motion picture images which the producers claim to be authentic footage of Nessie: the only such film in known existence!
Description
To most of us, the Loch Ness Monster is little more than a fairy tale, a product of overactive imaginations and the Scottish tourist industry. Not so for the thousands of local residents who've reported seeing a mysterious animal in the loch, nor for the generations of investigators and scientists who've used the latest technology to probe the cold, murky depths of Britain's largest lake. Twenty-five years ago, MIT-trained investigators Bob Rines and Charlie Wyckoff used side sonar and strobe photography to produce the most intriguing evidence yet for the monster's existence. Now, disappointed by the lack of follow-up by professional scientists, they return to Scotland for one last go at "Nessie." Join NOVA as it follows this latest expedition and conducts its own investigation into a mystery that has fascinated millions for more than 60 years. As Rines and Wyckoff scour the loch with today's sophisticated sonar, scientists explore the loch's ecosystem and geological history for clues, and the most famous photo of Nessie is put to the test, with surprising results. Decide for yourself: Is Nessie an optical illusion, a fantastic hoax - or a species undiscovered by science?
Product Description
They appear in ancient myths from around the world. The ultimate figure of power and destruction, dragons surely reside only in fairy tales and the pages of novels like The Hobbit.
But if this is so, how can we explain the sighting of "dragons" by people like the explorer Marco Polo and the ancient Greek historian Herodotus? Take a remarkable journey into the myths and legends of dragons. Ancient art and writings reveal the many sightings and stories that have propelled the legend of these awesome beasts through the ages. Meet scientists who contend that "dragons" were in fact real, now-familiar beasts, and others who suggest a more incredible explanation. Could dragons have actually existed, and could they still remain hidden in some remote corner of the earth?
The latest research, astonishing expert interviews and stunning art from around the world combine in DRAGONS.

dragons international.......2007-06-22
Cultures all over the globe and for centuries have described dragons. This film shows many beautiful paintings and statues from dragons across the globe. They are so widespread, I'm surprised they are not mentioned as Jungian archetypes. Unlike researchers that may treat one civilization as better than another, this work spoke of dragons in Europe, China, and the Americas with equal respect. Still, one interviewee said Occidental and Oriental dragons did not have the same characteristics or reputation. This reminded me of how others have said Wicca and Yoruba religions have nothing in common even though they may seem to.
The work never assumes that dragons did not or do not exist. In the same way that many have hypotheses about Atlantis, this work explores some hypotheses on dragons. Still, I thought it went far from exhausting ideas. On "Sagwa: the Siamese-Chinese Cat," they said dragons were metaphors for rivers; others say they are phallic metaphors.
When Leonard Nimoy narrates, he first asks a question then tries to answer it. I thought this was redundant and just meant to kill time. It certainly dumbs down the program. I appreciated the diverse interviewees seen in the work. One interviewee looked like he was Leonard Nimoy with a long beard.
Should this program win an Oscar for documentary? Of course not! Is it a cute thing to watch when you have some free time? Yes. I think parents whose children love dragons may want to get this or make sure their curious, young ones see it.

Horrible Movie.......2005-03-14
This movie is bad. It has bad acting and speacial effects that look like they're from a Nintendo game. The only person with a good scottish accent dies in the beginning of the movie. It also doesn't make sense. A security guard in the movie doesn't belive in Nessie even when he knows they have one in captivity! If you want a good Nessie flick, see Loch Ness (Ted Danson?)
LOCH MESS MONSTER.......2004-07-21
Director Chuck Comisky might have been good with the visual effects mentioned in the Amazon review, but his talents as a director are minimal to say the least. BENEATH LOCH NESS is one of the slowest moving "thrillers" to come along in quite some time and there's just not enough dealings with the monster. Who cares that Brian Wimmer and Lysette Anthony were once married; they're both still pretty obnoxious and self-centered. And why the cliche of the crusty old seaman (this time the ubiquitous but not necessarily talented Patrick Bergin)? The subplots with the fishermen and the web site Nessies is also underdeveloped and nothing really happens on screen with them. Vernon Wells as the constable is so wooden, it's a wonder he didn't have wood lice. The Scottish scenery, however, is gorgeous and that's why a three and not any lower.
Yes...another bad review!.......2004-07-20
Well, i'll make this short and sweet and easy for you to understand then you can make your own decision on wheither you wanna rent, buy or totally avoid this film.
First the story...not bad, but it's about the loch ness monster so it wasn't that hard to come up with a script.
The acting...laughable, can't believe that some of these actors were actually in some good mainstream movies (guess they aren't working enough and need the money)
The special effects...yes,the famous CGI technology that was supposed to be used in this movie, must of been the first and untested version. The monster looks like a nintendo (ok, playstation) character that you have to defeat to get to the next level. If you have to buy or rent this film, get it for this reason alone...it's really that funny!
...Ok, that's all i can say, i don't wanna spoil all the fun for you but if you want to take my advice, AVOID this movie like the plague..it's not what you wanna see, trust me..you can do something better with your life and money.
If your that into The Loch Ness, then go to the library or buy a film documentary!
SHAME ON YOU DIMENSION FILMS FOR THIS MOVIE!!
Story line lacking.......2004-05-11
This movie was supposed to be another silly monster movie. there are no reviews for it. What it is is a group of so-called researchers who all try to outdo each other with bad language. Have the mute button handy. This is best watched with TV gaurdian on.
There is Something in the Loch.......2003-10-03
As you can guess from the title, this is a sea monster movie. But this one doesn't seem to know what direction to take. It is almost like there were several script treatments that were jumbled together in the end.
The Explorer Channel has funded a study of Loch Ness but the scientist in charge disappears during an earthquake. A new scientist is brought in to finish the story.
The scientist is portrayed both as an incompetent figurehead as well as a knowledgeable researcher.
The assistant bounces back and forth from complaining about the scientist's boorishness and being even more boorish.
The local constable claims that anyone who has seen the monster is a total nut job (even after he has a monster in custody).
In the end we wonder if they will run the story or not, and we really don't care.
There are plenty of nagging details such as just how many hours can the diving gear be operated, sudden changes in day/night, and places where it seems someone edited out some critical scenes.
The underlying concept is one that could have made a great film (I can't tell you without spoiling it) but the odd acting, lousy script, characters with no substance or history, and some very outdated CGI (looks like early computer game graphics) all combine to into one big dud.
If you want a better film about Loch Ness, check out the Ted Danson version (Loch Ness).
