Great for beginner .......2007-08-15
Great variety- not too strenuous- might not work up a sweat but definitely you'll get a good stretch
Not yet received the product , it is over a month already!!.......2007-07-16
I have not yet received the product, It is already over a month since I purchased it online. Why am I being asked for the review without delivering the product?????
Great Value.......2007-06-11
I have to say this is probably one of the best purchases I have made on Amazon.com. Sara Ivanhoe is an absolutely charming instructor. I enjoy Yoga, but sometimes I just don't have time for a 45-60 minute routine. These routines fit perfectly into my workout schedule. I can do my cardio and then do a quick Yoga routine.
I would recommend this set to the advanced beginner and above. I really think you need to have mastered basic Yoga before attempting these workouts.
Great Yoga Workout DVD's!!!.......2007-05-18
I have bought a dozen (or more) workout tapes and dvd's in the past and used each of them maybe once or twice. But I LOVE these 20 minute workouts and do them faithfully nearly every day! I have a 5 disc dvd player, so I put them all in and alternate between them. I usually do 2 or 3 discs each time but sometimes if I have time I do all 5. I still try to go to the yoga studio at least once a week but when I can't these are perfect!
Takes you from beginner to advanced beginner.......2007-04-28
I've always been a bit skeptical of yoga, preferring instead to lift weights and run. But I got into yoga at a recommendation of a friend of mine in the military who says its one of his preferred activities. I found Rodney Yee's beginner DVD to be a little too slow. I've also tried live classes, but didn't dig the chanting and meditation too much.
Sara Ivanhoe's DVD's are a good solid introduction to yoga, and if you're in average shape, you can keep pushing yourself and notice real improvement in balance and flexibility. Now I'm totally hooked and do it several times a week. I would recommend her DVD's for someone who's looking to learn more about yoga and to push themselves into something a bit more challenging and that will help you build real strength and flexibility.

Edmond Rostand's ineffably romantic play about the big-nosed soldier and swordsman with a poet's soul looks stagey in this 1950 film adaptation. But, thanks to a heartfelt performance by Jose Ferrer (who won an Oscar for the role), the beauty of Rostand's words shines through. Ferrer plays Cyrano, who is in love with the beautiful Roxanne but is unable to tell her so for fear that she will reject him because of his extremely prominent nose. In a heart-breaking turn, she confesses her love to him--but it is love for another man, a soldier under his command named Christian. Christian, however, is a good-hearted but tongue-tied youngster, and so the older Cyrano woos Roxanne vicariously by supplying Christian with his own words of love, most famously in a balcony scene in which Cyrano speaks for himself while pretending to be Christian. Ferrer is tender, tough, and funny and single-handedly pulls this film to near-greatness. --Marshall Fine
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2007-07-21
This is a geart version of Cyrano. It features Jose Ferrer in the title role of Cyrano. Unlike some other swashbucklers Jose can really fence. The fencing scenes are fantastic and all the actors work to bring the tragic story of Cyrano to life in an amazing way. The only gripe I have is with the sound, but this is a fantastci movie.
Tale of Two Loves .......2007-05-26
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...or maybe it is in the ear of the beholder.
Jose Ferrer plays Cyrano de Bergerac, a witty, chivalrous swordsman who has a flair for quick quips and romantics. Cyrano's one insecurity is something he can do little about, his rather large nose, and this seems to make him reluctant to profess his love for a woman he desperately is in love with, Roxane. Roxane, however, has her love already set on another man (Christian) who has the looks that Cyrano has no hope of competing with.
In a classic story of lost love, and inner and outer beauty, the film Cyrano de Bergerac seems to highlight the idea that physical attraction can only go so far, and that sacrifice is a huge part of love. There is a significant point in the film when both major characters--Cyrano and Christian--have to sacrifice something. Christian's sacrifice in battle is parallel with Cyrano's sacrifice in trying to help Christian win the love of Roxane, and these sacrifices seem to underscore the various meanings of love in the film. While Roxane loves Christian for his outer handsomeness, it is the voice and words of Cyrano, unbeknownst to her, that she falls in love with. This seems to highlight the notion that physical attraction can only work so much magic before it falls flat, that there has to be something deeper.
Another interesting perspective is the two types of battles raging: both physical and emotional. The physical war that Cyrano and Christian fight in seems to coincide with the emotional battle within both of their hearts for Roxane. These seem to equate with both characters different kinds of wounds suffered: Cyrano (emotional, from the idea of not gaining Roxane's love) and Christian (physical, from being hurt in battle).
Clearly a sense of honor is there for Cyrano, and this makes the final climactic scene with Roxane perhaps the best scene in the film.
This is well-performed classic, albeit overlooked, shows that love has more than one dimension.
Great version...but a problem with audio.......2007-05-20
I love this movie. I think that Jose Ferrer is great a Cyrano. My students also liked this version and it was great for showing the consolidation of characters and plot lines. However, the audio inconsistencies tended to be a problem. My students missed lines. On the plus side, they were quiet throughout the movie.
Wonderful Wit.......2007-05-15
This version of Cyrano de Bergerac is timeless. Jose Ferrer embodies the character of Cyrano in a way that Steve Martin's "Roxanne" version of the story never did. I highly recommend this movie for entertainment, as well as, disscusion of wit and humor during the Renescience.
My own dear love I love you not............2007-04-13
Everytime I watched this movie when I was growing up on television, I would cry when he said that one line. Cyrano to me was the very picture of what this time period is like, this is the version that I love more than all others. I was in my local Half Price Books when I saw the book, I picked it up and was thumbing through it when I realized that the DVD of the Jose Ferrar version was attached all for $5.98, joy. I have seen every version of Cyrano, even the Steve Martin take on it in Roxanne. Jose's tenderness and beauty in this part is something that I must admit that I have read some of the reviews and they say that it doesn't seem realistic to them. There was a time when men actually courted women with sweet words and kindness, when being a poet was something that you were praised for. I suppose that there will be people who think that there is something fantasy like in this character but I also know that he is based on a real poet living at the time that it was written. I find that it was something that endeared the character to me. I love Cyrano, he taught me at a young age that it is important to look beyond someone's features and see who they are. I am like the young woman who offered him a feast at the beginning of the movie, my eyes would have held no mocking in them. Jose Ferrer is amazing in this part, this is the one that I looked for and when I found it that Sunday afternoon, I ran to watch it because it had been my one true search for so long. The quality of my DVD is fine, it has that haze of older film but everything can't be HD, get over it and watch the movie.

This is listed as color but it's actually black and white and on my DVD, there was an annoying broken white line at the top of the video. I love this film, I've seen it a number of times and I would have loved to have seen the color version, which I prefer.

When we sweat, it is a sign that our body is getting rid of unwanted toxins and fat cells- that calories are literally being burned. This is no ordinary sun salutation flow. Instead, it is a totally innovative program of arm balances, core strengthening and twisting postures that will aid in digestion and detoxification of the body. The end result - that radiant glow that we all want!
Customer Reviews:
Beginner Friendly.......2007-06-26
I give this DVD 5 stars. That said, I can see how other might not feel challenged enough by it. I'm a beginner and not in the greatest shape. This video was challenging for me, yet easiest enough that I could make it all the way through. Sara does give variations a few times for the more advanced yogi. I did break a small sweat and felt refreshed afterwards. I'll continue to do this DVD and recommend it to other beginner/intermediates. It's great when you're crunched for time.
Sara's quick workouts.......2007-02-09
I love this DVD. It is quick, and although it seems to be very easy, I have seen noticable, physical results from using her 20-minute videos 3 days a week.
For beginners who have decent muscle tone who want balance/twisting poses, not sweat.......2006-11-21
This is set on a glass in a tropical area with an ocean behind. Sara is alone teaching & no props are used. The dvd comes in 2.0 & 5.1 dolby & has health tips & for washing your mat.
After the 1 min intro, the warm up is simple seated side stretches & twisted sage for 2 min.
For 4 min, you then are kneeling on one leg & straight on the other, more side stretches & side plank (need good arm strength to hold whole body on one hand & sides of feet.)
Next for 3 min is wide legged forward bend, then some simple breathing with arm movements in mountain stance. Then a mountain stance w/arm movements of warrior II.
Next is twisted chair pose, then eagle for 3 min.
Next is downward dog, simple lunge, hamstring stretch, cow stretch which is like indian style butterfly stretch for 4 min.
Next is dolphin which is like downward dog on your elbows with raising one leg at a time for stretch & strengthening. Last is kinda a cobra & pulling on your feet for stretching your quads for 3 min.
It ends in a seated meditation/mudra with your fingers in a simple pose.
The hardest part for me was the side plank only on my left hand. I didn't sweat at all or barely work except for that. When she did mountain style w/warrior 2 hands, I did regular warrior 2 & seemed to do it more deeply then she showed. I have been doing yoga 1-2x/week for about 5 years & consider myself a beginner/intermediate in terms of strength but even better flexibility.
I had trouble with getting into this dvd because I could tell she seemed distracted & not into the routine & nor is she new with the camera. The whole point of yoga is the flexibility AND being more aware of the moment & your body.
You can see trailers of her 5 other yoga dvds on collagevideo com & see a trailer of this at guba com
Nice 20 minute yoga practice..........2006-11-20
Power Beauty Sweat is another video in Sara's 20 Minute Yoga Makeover series and it's my favorite of the ones that I have tried. I wouldn't necessarily agree with the title as other reviewers but I still enjoyed this practice quite a bit. I really enjoyed the scenery which is a backdrop of the mountains and ocean in Hawaii, very colorful.
You start by sitting on the floor in a cross legged position, you will first do a side lean to each side then a spinal twist. Then you will come onto your knees for gate pose, where one leg is extended out and you lean over it. You have the option of moving into stage 2 which is putting your arm behind you, I personally skip this. Then you move into a side plank pose with a straight arm, this was tough for me, I may do this one on my elbow next time. The option of moving into stage 2 by putting your arm behind you is given again here. Gate and plank are then repeated on the other side.
Then you will stand for fan pose, adding twists to each side before moving into a standing twist. This is followed by chair pose twist, and eagle pose with a shoulder stretch. You finish out with a nice series of poses such as downward facing dog, lunge stretch, hamstring stretch, cow pose, dolphin pose and a quadricep stretch while lying on your front. Then you will end up in a cross legged position with a Mudra hand gesture.
I would consider myself intermediate at best in yoga, I expected this practice to be harder than it was, though some poses were tougher for me than others. But overall a very nice practice, I like doing this one in the mornings especially. I like Sara Ivanhoe as an instructor and seem to click with her style of yoga. Overall I give this one 4 and a half stars.
Quick but powerful.......2006-10-07
I chose this separate DVD because of price, the instructor and the 20 minute factor. I have been doing Yoga on and off for the last couple of years but have recently been doing it twice a week. I liked this DVD because the moves were not the typical sun salutations taking up the beginning and the positions were challenging. As an intermediate on the lower end of the spectrum the 20 minutes worked. I did not sweat but I felt it in my legs the next day. The short session can almost guarantee that I will do this frequently by itself or along with a 30 minute cardio. I will probably look for the set to see what the others are like.
