Product Description
Director Roger Young (JOSEPH AND JESUS) presents this dramatic television miniseries that recounts the life of Paul (Johannes Brandrup) the Apostle of Jesus Christ. Originally known as Paul of Tarsus, Paul tortured and persecuted Christians until he experienced a vision of Jesus that forever changed his life. After converting to Christianity, Paul suffered persecution and imprisonment, but never stopped trying to spread the teachings of Christ. Notably, this program was shot on location in the Moroccan desert.

Finally something...............2007-09-12
The best movie about Apostle Paul. It gave me complete image of Paul. The actors are great, especially Johannes. I love every part of this movie.I can watch over and over.
An Interesting Time in History.......2007-03-16
I enjoyed this DVD and found it to be pretty accurate over all. Some characters were added to help tell the story but they seemed to fit well.
Interesting Movie.......2007-01-31
The movie is very interesting. Saint Paul is a great Apostle. It is important to know about his life and his experience. I recommend the movie to any one who likes religious movies and anyone who wants to learn from the Saints experience. It gives detail about Saint Paul before he was converted, and it shows how he got converted, but it did not continue after he went to Rome. The movie ended right when he arrived in Rome. I think when he went to Rome, his life there was interesting experience, and it would be nice if there was second part. Overall, it is a good movie, and I think every one needs to view it.
Paul the Apostle.......2007-01-11
The Best Movie I have seen in years!! Moves the heart, makes you know how real Jesus is. This is the kind of movie you watch over and over and over. 3.5 hours of intense interest, definetly NOT BORING! True to scripture.
not like the Bible Collection in accuracy at all!.......2006-09-04
this video is nothing more than artistic license with the Scriptures. My family was amazed at how many points we found in the Scriptures that were DIFFERENT than what was said or acted out in this film. We REALLY enjoy other parts of the Bible Collection films, such as Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, Jeremiah, and Esther. BUT THIS ONE doesn't deserve to be named off with the B.C. set (nor the Sampson one). If you want to see some common yet erroneous doctrines presented, then this film won't bother you. The only part that was continously Biblical was the tension between the political religious parties. All else was corrupted and shoved together incorrectly. Finally, the "artistic license" taken where you see Saul/Paul go from being a wrestler, to the full naked backside of the characters, to a single nude breast of a woman later as her and hubby go to consumate, and the buttocks hanging out of a few others along the way....well, it was embarassing to see such unholy material guized under a holy subject and Biblical atmosphere. Simply put, the story of Saul/Paul was "hollywood-ized" in this film....great liberty was taken, inappropriately. Don't buy if you want Biblical.

The Story of the Twelve Apostles
This documentary from the History Channel does a fine job examining the lives of the 12 disciples chosen by Christ to carry his teachings to the world. Beginning by providing an historical overview of life in Jerusalem under Roman rule, it goes on to cogently explain the circumstances by which Jesus, having become recognized as a teacher, was able to recruit his apostles. Intelligently handled reenactments provide dramatizations of significant events in the lives of the disciples, and their diverse personalities and individual relationships with Jesus, as well as their lives following the crucifixion, are covered in some depth. Biblical scholars, including university professors and priests, appear throughout in interview segments to offer their insights, and the narration by actor Martin Sheen is understated but always interesting. The issue of separating fact from myth is dealt with at some length, and a discussion of how some accounts of the lives of the apostles came to be judged as the Apocrypha is of particular interest. The Story of the Twelve Apostles is a commendable look at some of history's most intriguing figures, 12 men who were considered outlaws but whose influence is today felt around the world. --Robert J. McNamara
The Story of Paul the Apostle
The impassioned life work of the devout Jew who persecuted Christians until he heard the voice of God is thoroughly examined in this 66-minute History Channel documentary. Drawing on the biblical writings of his friend Luke, his own Epistles, and the meager additional writings of the time, this film begins with Paul's conversion and follows his three decades of traveling missionary work, imprisonment, trials, and eventual martyrdom in Rome. Biblical scholars and historians augment Martin Sheen's narration of this secular look at his life. Lavish illustrations include artwork (stained glass, mosaics, paintings, sculpture), old black-and-white movies, contemporary reenactments, and footage of today's ruins of many of the temples and landmarks where Paul preached from Israel to Turkey to Athens. Always controversial in his day, Paul gets his due here, being credited as the single most influential person in taking Christianity from a fledgling sect to a worldwide church. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Good shows.......2007-01-24
Let's call this what this is, a show to help you understand who the Apostles were without having to sift through the New Testament. Not that the NT isn't a good read. Consider this sort of the Cliff Notes version. It allows you to get into their heads a little more to see the hows and whys of their following Jesus.
sounds fishy to me..........2006-05-09
The Beautiful Savior Jesus Christ who created you and me and alone is capable of forgiving our sins, undoubtedly doesn't want a famous liberal humanist who fights for abortion rights to be narrating anything about His story.
Jesus Is God.
Tell Him you're sorry for sinning,
believe that He can forgive your sins,
and you go to heaven to be with Him forever when you die!!
He took your punishment for you already.
That's what The Bible teaches us :)
PRAISE JESUS!!!
He is the greatest phenomenon to ever cross the horizon of this world.
Excellent production value.......2005-06-14
This A and E production for the History Channel is a summary of the history of the 12 Apostles and of Paul. Martin Sheen's narration makes this a powerful production: he gives the stories presented both flavour and emotion. The visual images are also quite dramatic: panning the location of many of the biblical events were to have occurred, snippets of audiovisual productions telling the Christian story, and artistic works inspired by biblical events.
The only drawback is that the content is not particularly enlightening as the production does not deviate greatly from the four gospels, the Acts, and Paul's letters from the NT. I would agree with the last reviewer: there is no political message in this material: it is merely reciting the historical events during the first century of the church.
Simply a Powerful Historical Angle.......2003-03-28
I completely disagree with Robin E. Simmons (a.k.a. "Top 1000 Reviewer") review of 3/24/03; I believe she has become bias in all her "reviewing"; perhaps you need to slow down Robin. I did not see ANY political or religious bias in this AT ALL - that's what, not only made this fascinating, but very informative. It is raw and it is very powerful; I felt it cuts straight to the heart of the history surrounding the Apostles. It certainly put the flesh on the skeleton for me. Definitely check them out!!
THE MEN WHO MARKETED CHRISTIANITY.......2003-03-25
A two disc set from the History Channel, THE APOSTLES includes "The Story of the Twelve Apostles" and "The Stoy of Paul the Apostle." Narrated by Martin Sheen, it's hard to disassociate the material from his high-profile Catholic and political bias. That said, the material is an OK primer on Jerusalem under Roman rule 2000 years ago and the fascinating identity of the men who promulgated what was to become the Christian religion, now embraced by well over a quarter of the world's population. St. Paul's message was simple: The free gift of God's grace to a broken world that needs healing and that "all are one in Christ." Look around; it's still a volatile message.
Description
He was originally a powerful and implacable enemy of Jesus, determined to stop the spread of Christ's message. But then his dramatic conversion changed him and changed the course of history.
From his education in Jerusalem under the Rabbi Gamaliel to his exhortations on behalf of Christianity throughout the Mediterranean, The Story of Paul the Apostle, presented by The History Channel, explores the life and legacy of the greatest missionary of the early church. Theologians reflect on the importance of his upbringing to his success in spreading the Word, and an in-depth analysis of his writings some of the earliest Christian documents extant shed light not just on the origins of Christianity, but on the man who helped ensure its survival.

Great Movie in spite of History Channel Dramatizations.......2007-05-16
For those wanting to gain better knowledge about Paul this is a good primer. It would have been a great film if the History Channel's production of it was less...History Channel. Martin Sheen narrates this movie that is part documentary, part history exposition, part speculation.
The film covers Paul's Pharisee origin, his encounter with Christ, his journeys, his controversies with Jews, limited portions of the Epistles and the time he wrote them, and even mentions his controversial death. While I would have appreciated more detail regarding the Epistles, this was decent enough to recommend to folks who have no knowledge of Paul. Biblical scholars could also appreciate this as it mentions Paul's latter years via other historical texts outside of the Holy Bible.
The only reason outside the limited discussion of all Epistles I rate it less than a 5 is because of the History Channel treatment via overdramatizations. The overdramatizations were some of the contemporary images of Paul, some of the music, and "reenactment footage", i.e. Paul being lowered over a wall to safety with the crowd was ready to kill him. All of these things at times detracted from the story. Also, while it is hard to tell any Biblical story sequentially and chronologically, this video made a serious attempt at least keeping the evangelical journeys in order.
Description
Apart from Jesus Himself, no person shaped the history of Christianity like the Apostle Paul. His personal encounter with Jesus Christ changed his life. He channeled his fierce intensity for the gospel. Ben Kinglsey narrates the story of how Paul preached for Christ throughout the Roman Empire on three missionary journeys. Follow in the footsteps of the Apostle to Jerusalem, Antioch, Philippi, Athens, Ephesus, Malta and Rome where he was executed for the faith he once denounced. Extra Feature: First Martys in Rome Christians were denounced everywhere by the Romans because they were such a threat to the Roman establishment. This film tells the story of four martyrs - Clement, Cecilia, Apollonius, and Agnes. Each made the ultimate sacrifice rather than deny their faith. Hosted by Joseph Campanella.
