You'd expect a cavalcade of cuteness from any pairing of Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, but Two Weeks Notice admirably avoids the obvious. You get plenty of Bullock's pratfalls and feisty sex appeal, and Grant's snappy comebacks are never in short supply, but first-time writer-director Marc Lawrence (who wrote Bullock's previous hit, Miss Congeniality) adds just enough antagonism to keep this romantic comedy from being a completely foregone conclusion. Neurotic lawyer, environmentalist, and landmark-preservation activist Lucy Kelson (Bullock) is determined to thwart the efforts of billionaire developer and jet-setting playboy George Wade (Grant); of course, fate brings them together and then rips them apart, just as they're beginning to feel the panicky pangs of love. A replacement attorney (Alicia Witt) defies formula by being genuinely sweet, and Lawrence steers clear of the most familiar clichés. It's formulaic anyway, but in Two Weeks Notice it's a comforting formula, delivered by stars who thrive within their limitations. --Jeff Shannon

Sparks fly, well almost........2007-07-08
Two Weeks Notice starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant is a cute and safe romantic comedy. There are some funny scenes in this film but of course the chemistry is awkwardly steamy. Grant always seems lazy in the love department, his chemistry with Drew Barrymore in Music and Lyrics is on the breezy side as well. Bullock's appeal saves this film, the scenes where she is ordering gallons and gallons of chinese food is a riot. This film is an office romance so it does have some orginality to it but otherwise it's pretty much a standard love story. Two Weeks Notice is worth a notice or two though. Enjoy!
SO FUNNY.......2007-05-20
TWO WEEKS NOTICE is one of my favorite movies. There. I said it. Read on to see why I love this movie.
TWO WEEKS NOTICE is the story of Lucy (Sandra Bullock), a very. . . It's hard to describe her. She aspires to be a great lawyer - and in truth is - but she settles to work at Legal Aide and do pro-bono work instead of going and making money. Until she meets George Wade (Hugh Grant!).
George Wade is a multi-millionaire businessman, the face of Wade Corporations. He hires Lucy while he is in need of an assistant. They make a bargain - she'll work for him and help him get his building built, but he must keep the Coney Island Community Center. This works - for a while.
Lucy finally gets fed up with George's late night calls and strange demands and his lack of R-E-S-P-E-C-T (see movie for joke). So she gives him her two weeks' notice. But the thing is, Lucy is in love with George, but is too prideful to admit it.
This movie is so well written and well done overall. Hugh Grant does a wonderful job as George, whether you want to admit or not. He and Sandy Bullock may not have perfect chemistry, but they are so funny together. There are moments in the movie that make me laugh out loud. And I rarely laugh out loud.
LUCY: I think you are the most selfish person on the planet, George.
GEORGE: That's just silly. Have you met everyone on the planet?
See this movie. It's genuinely funny.
Excellent Movie.......2007-04-07
I rate this highly because it was an excellent movie. Your service was also excellent. Thank you! Mary Beth Harden
One of my absolute favorites!.......2007-01-19
This romantic comedy has the best of both worlds. It is really funny thanks to Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock. Plus, it is romantic without being sappy. Even my husband (a real guys guy) enjoys it.
Well-mannered but rather inert romantic comedy (spoilers).......2006-12-03
The creators of this civil, well-mannered comedy seem to cater to the old cliche of the impossible romantic pairing, but be warned: this is not a story of two opposite forces clashing against each other and, eventually, realizing how much they have always needed to get together. Here we have a rather aggressive lawyer and a rich, decent guy who falls for her. It's as simple and polite as that.
Bullock's self sufficiency doesn't seem to be needing Grant's decency for a minute. When she finally declares herself to him (he's been lovestruck all the while) it's only because he agreed to give her exactly what she wants. She must be falling as a 'thank you' gesture. Does she seem to really need Grant? The motivational arc seems to imply that she should only because a woman cannot live by herself.
There are other minor problems with this movie. We have a silly scene with a cellphone ringing in the middle of a wedding. The reasons of this are explained verbally in the subsequent scene. But there has been no set-up for the silliness, and the verbal explanation is pat and a cop-out.
Then we have a lot of scenes where people and cars move into the frame from right-field towards left. This is most annoying and signifying a backward pull in the visual development of the narration. The cinematography by Laszlo Kovacs is greyish and uninvolving. Kovacs is a master, and to be sure he manages to impart a consistently dull color tone to the whole proceedings. It must have been a stylistic requirement, yet the fact that all of the the natural daylight is cloudy doesn't sit well with this kind of stuff.
The director/writer succeeded especially in extracting two believable performances from the stars. "Two Weeks Notice" is pleasant enough. No big laughs, though, just polite smiles.

Get Real begins with a couple of hedgehogs having sex, and deals with a topic just as prickly: gay love in adolescence. Steve (Ben Silverstone) is a student at a British school where everyone wears classy uniforms, knows he's gay, and is pretty comfortable being so. John (Brad Gorton), a top athlete and all-around admired guy, is just getting an inkling and isn't sure how he feels about it. This, cleverly, is how the movie manages to explore coming-out issues and be over them at the same time. In fact, the whole movie is pretty clever--witty dialogue, deft direction, nimble pacing, and clean editing--in exploring the seriousness of adolescent life without taking it too seriously. The key is in Silverstone's performance; he's a completely convincing mixture of hesitation and recklessness, all the conflicts of high school in one sweet-faced package. As the movie follows Steve and John's relationship--their evasions at school, getting picked up by the police in a park, goofing around in a heated swimming pool, grappling with coming out to the world at large--it lays out a bit of contrast with Steve's best friend Linda (Charlotte Brittain), who's as unapologetically fat as Steve is gay, and who's having an affair with her driving instructor. Excellent performances all around, funny, sexy, charming--if only straight teen comedies were half this good. Get Real even demonstrates the proper etiquette when soliciting sex in public restrooms; what more can you ask for? --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
One of my very favorite movies.......2007-06-30
I love this movie. It's one of those magical little Brit flicks in which everything just works. It's also one of the very few films that I can watch again and again (with intervals of a few months in between) and still feel the same kind of emotional response.
No doubt much of my reaction is personal, and I suspect this movie is pretty much a gay thing. It may even be more specialized than that -- a gay thing for people who aren't American idiots, which would rule out much of the audience for teen-oriented entertainment, as evidenced by a couple of the more vapid reviews in this thread. So be warned if you are (a) straight, (b) stupid, (c) unable to tolerate non-Hollywood fare, or some ungodly combination of the above.
Another must have.......2007-06-26
What a great movie! Great acting. Humor where you wouldn't expect it. A movie that makes you think. And what a great line to almost end the movie with: "It's just love! What is everyone so afraid of?" Not only was it entertaining, but I bought it at an apropos point in my life, and it has helped me during a couple of struggles. Wonderful when a movie can be thoroughly entertaining, insightful, and personally helpful.
nice try.......2007-05-24
Almost hit the mark, deals with some serious issues, and funny in parts, but not extremly convincing. Still worth a spin, but needed some better casting.
Very very good movie.......2007-03-18
This movie is about sadness, love, lies, loneliness, rumors and abusive!! This movie got me heartache and I almost cry the whole time. If you have never seen this movie oh my my!! You should buy it and see it for yourself!!
A good coming out story.......2007-03-17
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit because it nicely depicted the complications that arise from being in the closet, ultimately coming out, and having to deal with the sad consequences of someone else's failure to be honest and truthful. Of course it's tough to be "real" when that is exactly what friends, family, and society often don't want to see, but in the long run it is just so much better than trying to live a lie and make yourself believe this is okay. In the film, I thought the writer did a nice job of showing how some people who appear to have everything actually end up with very little of true value while the "outcasts" often shine with true grit and integrity. Overall, this is a feel-good movie with a mostly good ending. The characters are great. You'll like it!

Description
Catherine Breillat's controversial first film centers around the sexual awakening of a young girl on summer vacation.
Customer Reviews:
This is Uncut? Your kidding me!?.......2007-03-11
This sure sounded like a hot movie when i read the overview. A young woman curious about sex and trying to get herself off. Boy,i sure was surprised at what this really is. A super softcore B-movie with terrible acting and almost no sex!!! You want nudity? Sorry. But this movie does have worms, thats right, worms! In one of the "Sex scenes" a guy puts live worms into the womans private area. Yeah,it's that bad. Stay far away from this one.
Product okay, movie itself, well. . . .......2007-01-10
The DVD promtly arrived and was of high quality. The movie itself was merely OK. Catherine Breillat is often talked about for her daring subject matter and explicit style, but, in this as in others, there is simply too much dead space for either enjoyment or eroticism. Don't watch this when you're tired, unless you are troubled by insomnia.
Fairly mediocre.......2007-01-07
This DVD would be shrugged of the shelves if produced today. I suspect it was a bit revolutionary in the day, but lacks the shock value it may have once had. Some of the scenes are mildly erotic, but many (can you say earthworms?) are simply gross.
Don't let the subject matter get your hopes up.......2006-12-06
Artsy French erotic drama is watchable but ultimately not very interesting and, worse, not very stimulating. A young heroine, home for the summer from boarding school, is soon bored hanging around her parents' farmhouse and starts having all manner of erotic dreams. As the film progresses, we see a mix of erotic dreams and actual erotic events, with the film leaving it up to the viewer which events are happening in the girl's head and which are actually taking place in her life. Toward the end, it's pretty clear that most of the events are actually happening. The trouble is, most of the girl's erotic dreams and/or experiences involve things like having earthworms rubbed into her nether regions and the girl playing with earwax, hardly the elements of classic erotica. There are other things going on, and the movie's not a total loss, but really... if you've seen one allegorical French erotic drama, you've seen them all.
Art Films vs Hot Films.......2006-10-28
A conclusion is where you let your mind stop thinking. This isn't a movie I'd have been comfortfortable watching next to my mother-inlaw in a theater. It's a film that gives you something to think about and remember your own rights of passage.
Art isn't supposed to avoid offending you. It's supposed to make you think and feel in ways you haven't before. Don't just think about the earthworms or bird feathers and then just stop thinking. Think about yourself at that time of life and the things you did when you were curious or in wonder.
