Say It Isn't So is touted as being from the Farelly brothers, who wrote and directed the movies Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and There's Something About Mary. And though they didn't write or direct this movie, it certainly has the same elements: charming lead actors (in this case, Heather Graham from Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Chris Klein from Election and American Pie) put through all sorts of comic grotesqueries, ranging from having an ear cut off to getting a hand stuck up a cow's rectum. Orphaned dogcatcher Gilly (Klein) and incompetent hairdresser Jo (Graham) fall in love, only to discover that Gilly's long-lost mother is Jo's own white trash momma (played with gusto by Sally Field). Unfortunately, they'd already slept together, so Jo flees in shame to go back to her ex-boyfriend in Beaver, Oregon. But when Jo's real brother shows up, Gilly sets out to win Jo back--only her mom wants her to marry the ex and tells the Beaver police that Gilly is a sexual predator. Say It Isn't So doesn't have the crude wit of There's Something About Mary, but there are several laugh-out-loud moments, and both Graham and Klein are sweet and engaging. Orlando Jones has a zestful turn as a legless seaplane pilot. --Bret Fetzer

Description

Boy meets girl. Boy loves girl. Boy discovers girl may be his sister. (Boy, this could be trouble.) To make matters worse, by the time he discovers "it isn't so," he has precious little time to stop the woman of his dreams from marrying another man. It's shameless romantic comedy at its finest produced by the twisted minds behind There's Something About Mary and Me Myself & Irene!

Despite all the gross-out jokes, this winds up being a fairly endearing romantic comedy. Though it is odd watching Sally Field in such a sleazy role.

5 out of 5 stars Good for a laugh.......2007-06-27

This movie is funny. Is it a classic? No. But good for a laugh from a person who is in need of putting the brain in neutral and laughing at visual and adult sexual material (not hard core). A person taking themselves very seriously would not enjoy this video, but someone with a sense of humor and open mind will laugh out loud at the antics.

We rented this movie the other day because we didnt know of anything else to rent and to my surprise, it was hilarious! I would definetly buy it!

How can anyone watch this piece of crap film? Yeah Heather Graham is hot but the film sucks and I don't like Chris Klein. This is the worst movie I ever seen. Do not watch it!

4 out of 5 stars Good Clean Incestuous Fun.......2005-10-08

"Say It Isn't So" isn't a non-stop laugh riot like "There's Something About Mary," but it's definitely right up there on the hilarity scale with Farrelly Brothers' films like "Dumb and Dumber" and "Kingpin." What really makes this movie is the supporting cast. Orlando Jones (a.k.a. The 7-up Guy) as "Dig," the pontoon plane-piloting double amputee, and Sally Field (a.k.a. Gidget) as Heather Graham's foul-mouthed, conniving mother, got me laughing out loud at least a dozen times. Heather Graham looks great, as usual, but is basically relegated to the "straight man's" role. Chris Klein, though, emotes exactly the bumbling, sympathetic humor that made his performance in "Election" so great. He has a real comedic talent for playing an unlucky, Chaplin-esque everyman that we can all love, even when he has his arm stuck up a cow's butt.

No More To Say & Nothing To Weep For - An Elegy For Allen Ginsberg 1926 - 1997

A portrait of the American Beat poet, Buddhist and counter-cultural hero, who died in New York in 1997, this revealing documentary includes his last television interview as well as extraordinary footage of his final days. Participants include his family and friends, fellow poets and performers, Patti Smith and Paul McCartney. Composer and collaborator Philip Glass also appears and there is a rare interview with Ginsberg's life-long partner Peter Orlovsky.

Ginsberg candidly discusses his personal life and literary career in the film and provides access to home movies of himself as a child. Archive footage provides a fascinating overview of the poet's eventful life: his 1965 reading at the Royal Albert Hall, his chanting at the 1968 Democratic Convention and at the Rocky Flats plutonium plant and TV interviews with William Buckley and Dick Cavett. There is also a chance to see previously unseen film of him in performance with Paul McCartney as well as Patti Smith's poignant New York memorial service tribute.

Ginsberg was always interested in the idea of death and invited Jonas Mekas (a leading light of the US underground cinema) to film his final moments. The last sequence shows Ginsberg on his deathbed in his loft in New York.

Allen Ginsberg was born in New Jersey in 1926, the son of a well-known poet and teacher. As a student at Columbia in the 1940s he struck up friendships with William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady. Ginsberg became associated with the Beat movement in the 1950s and published his first volume of poetry Howl and Other Poems in 1956. Howl overcame censorship trials to become one of the most widely read poems of the century. A great lover of music, Ginsberg collaborated with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Philip Glass.

Subtitles: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish

5 out of 5 stars An intimate and revealing picture of a legend.......2006-12-21

This documentary presents us with Allen Ginsberg in a very intimate manner, and by the end of it, you feel as if you know more of the man for the experience. Poetry is always subjective, but seeing and hearing about his life and death from his own lips and those of the people who loved him gives us a deeper insight into what his words meant, and what they meant to so many. You don't have to be a poet to apprecaite this portrait of a counter-culture icon, but for the poets who do watch it, there are a lot of very exciting and interesting features in the show itself. Just hearing about the beginnings of the Beat movement, and watching Ginsberg act/react to William Buckley and the politics of the day is invigorating. There are several clips of Ginsberg reciting his work, as well as clips of other poets and his life partner reading his poems threaded throughout, which make a solid backdrop to the rare footage and interviews the producer has put together. Add to that the chance to hear from Ferlinghetti, Kerouac, Snyder, and a plethora of other amazing writers, and this 50 minute doc becomes a riveting experience that is sure to leave you with a deeper respect for Ginsberg and his work.
Unfortunately there are no special features on the disc, but the people and things happening on screen in the body of the film are more than worth while. I especially enjoyed Ginsberg jamming the short version of "Ballad of the Skeletons" with Paul McCartney, and Patti Smith reading a tribute poem. All in all, this one is well worth watching. Take it home and have a copy of the collected works nearby when you watch it, because afterwards you'll be wanting to dig down with some more of his work!

3 out of 5 stars Nastassja Kinski, Nastassja Kinski, Nastassja Kinski.......2005-08-20

Well like I said in the title, she is the one. Still pretty, I remember the poster, the little girl in the seventies. But other than the sexy body. I saw a matured actress also in this movie. I don't know how many people noticed her acting ability in her performance in this movie. I don't how many directors even consider her for a movie for her acting capacity. She is extemely talented and I hope soon some one will exploit that talent than her body beauty.
William Baldwin, he did a remarkable job for what was given to him. I don't even know the actor who acted as Nastassja Kinski's husband and I don't think anyone will ever remember that actor for what he did with the role given to him. He was pathetic.
Overall, bad script and directing messed this movie up. One feels like the director did not had much idea of what to show after showing Nastassja Kinski naked for couple of shots. May be that was what he intended with the whole movie. In that area too he didn't do a good job.

3 out of 5 stars DEADLY SILENCE.......2005-01-05

The ever lovely Nastassja Kinski is the foundation for this derivative thriller, short on thrills, long on windy conversations. But Kinski puts her all into it, and makes this "Fatal Attraction" in reverse entertaining. William Baldwin, looking more like Alec every day, plays a powerful executive who tricks Kinski into a one night stand while she is off an a vacation. Her husband (played by the sturdy Hart Bochner) is going through a funk due to the loss of his job and he has started drinking. When Kinski returns home, she finds out that Baldwin was a little more than just a one night stand. The movie meanders on with Kinski having various things happen to her due to Baldwin's influence, and the ending culminates in a showdown. Baldwin's fate however is disappointing considering what he did.
Reminiscent of late night cable movies, SAY NOTHING offers nothing new, but Kinski shines again.

2 out of 5 stars What do you expect from a B flick?.......2003-07-15

Usually not much. Don't get me wrong, this one is another unabashed late-night cable skin flick, I make no excuses for it.
Horrible editing, lack of continuity in scene transitions, and the worse Hollywood mistake I've seen to date: A scene in the Miami hotel, (Kinski in a red dress) where the lighting is so bad, you can see every last mark on her face, and she looks 20 years older than she is...
OK.. Given all that: Some of the music is lush and powerful. I'm actually looking for the soundtrack (right, like there is one). Also, consider this: Why do some of us watch B flicks? Because that's where you usually find some of the more interesting plots and premises. Screenplays that are too cerebral for mass-market appeal, with some cool one-liners that quote existential philosophers... stuff like that.
Movies made by insomniacs for insomniacs...
Like the previous reviewer hinted, I'll say bluntly: Kinski naked, is the reason for making this movie and for watching it as well. For this kind of thing, but way higher budget, may I recommend (if ya ain't seen it yet) Sliver?

3 out of 5 stars I give it 3 stars, all for Nastassja Kinski. Period........2003-01-09

Let me start by saying that, at some point while watching Nastassja Kinski in this movie, I thought of Diane Lane. They're both stunningly beautiful, they both became celebrities at their young age, then they went through all kinds of ups and downs in their careers... Yet one appears to be luckier than the other...

....That being said, I honestly didn't expect a lot from this movie when I rented it, much less be fooled by its tagline "Think Fatal Attraction... in reverse." I didn't really care if William Baldwin acted well as a sweet stalker, or how Hart Bochner portrayed the character of a betrayed husband... Oh well, I had decided to be lenient with all the flaws of "Say Nothing" just to savour Nastassja's beauty (yes, she's still very attractive...and although I thought her ... body was somehow sexier in "Cold Heart", I felt compensated to enjoy the scene that featured her own famous poster -- remember, the one in which she posed with a python wrapped around her?. It's so nostalgic to me...) So here comes the bottom line: If you once loved Nastassja or still adore her, go watch her in "Say Nothing". The movie might let you down. She will not.
