1 out of 5 stars A Stunninly Awful Movie!.......2005-08-07

There seems to be those who love this movie and those who hate it. I can honestly say, giving this movie every chance that it is a stunningly bad movie. Let me refer to the other reviews, The screenplay is NOT intelligent or powerful, it IS exceedingly boring. The LAST thing this movie is, is focused. The plot is almost nonexistent. What drama? There definitely is no "drama." The only drama is that we wait for something, anything to happen, and nothing does. Kathleen Robertson is very pretty, and she has one screaming, breaking things scene, but is that really great acting? The first thing you learn in acting school is that anyone can scream in a scene, some might think that's great acting, but really, it's not. A reviewer said this was similar to Sex Lies and Videotape, it's not even close. It's more like Smoking and Drinking without a plot. The other reveiwer is right, this is like a BAD documentary that goes nowhere. He hit it on the head, lots of smoking and drinking and "introspective" looks by the main charachters. But there's no substance. We never understand why Kathleen Robertson wants to drop one complete loser for another. The truth is I couldn't care less after watching this. There is NO depth to Norman Reddus performance, all he does is smoke and drink, there's no meaning to it at all. His drinking isn't even interesting in the way Nicholas Cage's was in Leaving Las Vegas. Sean Young's performance is nauseating. This movie is TRULY 100% horse manure.

5 out of 5 stars A Dark Introspective Masterpiece.......2005-08-02

I checked out Until The Night on a fluke. I hadn't heard of it and only stumbled across it after looking up Norman Reedus on IMDB.com after I saw him in Floating (another great film) at a friends house.

Anyway, what a film. Dark, depressing, intense, real and brilliantly acted. What raw and eye opening performances from the leads, Norman and Kathleen. I was riveted by every moment of this film.

I highly reccoment picking this film up. You won't be disappointed.

Fans of heavy drama will be very satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars A GREAT MOVIE!.......2005-08-01

This film represents the best of contemporary independent cinema: a mature, compelling dissection of very real and very flawed adults as they try to find their way through the world. Gregory Hatanaka's direction and screenplay is intelligent and powerful, and the performances (particularly Norman Reedus) are amazing for their depth and scope. This film should be seen by anyone who wants to experience a smart, focused and memorable motion picture.

1 out of 5 stars Pointless waste of time and no talent.......2005-07-30

The last reviewer must be insane. Intense drama? He's got to be kidding, there's no drama because NOTHING HAPPENS in this movie. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. I rented it because I like Kathleen Robertson. But in this movie she did nothing. I can't get into my review without saying this movie was very annoying because of all the smoking. I mean nonstop smoking. The male lead must have lit at least 50 cigarettes in this flick, he always had a butt going. One after another, after another. You what that means? That means they had nothing for this character to do. Get a clue Hollywood, smoking is not acting. I mean if he didn't smoke he would have just sat there for 3/4 of the movie doing absolutely nothing but sitting quietly in a corner, except for the endless drinking he did also. Smoking means the writing was lacking also and it surely was. THERE WAS NO PLOT, NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS MOVIE! It was like a meaningless documentary. You don't even get a CLUE as what's going on in his mind with all his "introspection." Here's what happened: You meet Kathleen Robertson who is a successful carrier girl. Doing what, we are never told. She goes home to her husband, who is apparently a deadbeat, and all this guy does, in every scene is smoke cigarettes and drink. She seems depressed by this. Then she meets up with this other guy, the guy who smokes ALL the time, who is apparently her former boyfriend.
Although her husband makes her sad with all his drinking she gravitates towards her old boyfriend, who does nothing but, I hate to keep repeating it, but smoking and drinking. She hangs with him but doesn't have an affair, which might have been interesting. Then the movie just ends, which I was thankful for. This movie is a horrible, pointless waste of time, avoid it at all costs. I hope the director NEVER makes another movie!

5 out of 5 stars A gem.......2005-05-06

A dark and intese drama, Until The Night is packed with top notch performances from a first rate cast. Kathleen Robertson turns in a pitch perfect performance that rivals work done by most working actresses today. I only wish we can see more of her soon. Norman Reedus is great as usual. Greg Hatanaka brings us an intemate haunting tale of heartbreak, love, and loss. Highly reccomended.
