Product Description

Do you learn better by watching rather than reading? Here is a chance to see how to transport your baby from screaming into serenity...in minutes. Watch as, step-by-step, Dr. Karp teaches new parent how to switch on their baby's powerful calming reflex. English and Spanish In "The Happiest Baby" Dr. Karp reveals a treasure sought by new parents for centuries... the "calming reflex" (the automatic "off-switch? for any baby?s crying). No wonder thousands of Los Angeles parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna and Michelle Pfeiffer have turned to Dr. Karp to learn his secrets for making babies happy. Elisabeth Bing author and co-founder of Lamaze International "The Happiest Baby on the Block is fun, fascinating and convincing. I highly recommend it to all new parents." (Running time - 38 minutes.) The DVD also contains 3 bonus chapters: 1) Dr. Karp answers 25 questions from parents about calming babies and helping them sleep. 2) A Spanish dubbed audio track of the entire 38 minute teaching video. 3) Three tracks of calming white-noise sound that is an extraordinary mix of womb sounds and a newly designed pulsation that babies love (even though it sounds a little odd to the ears of an adult) Each track can be played individually, played in sequence or repeated for hours to gently guide your baby into a deep level of relaxation. This video is designed in NTSC not PAL or SECAM. It is meant for use in most countries in the Western Hemisphere as well as Japan, South Korea, Greenland, Guam, Samoa, and the Philippines.

5 out of 5 stars Must have for new born.......2007-09-16

I am a mother of a triplets, needless to say, I need all the help I can get. This DVD was recommended by the babies' new PED. By then, my babies were already 2 months old but it still helped, I just wish that someone had told me about it earlier. The methods in the DVD defiantly work. My advise, get this BEFORE your baby is born and follow through with it from the first day, will save you time and make your life easier.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!.......2007-09-07

This video will introduce you to a way to make your infant sleep! There is no magic involved, but simple techniques that work to calm your baby. Our baby has been sleeping all night through since 7 weeks, some nights she sleeps 13 hours!!

5 out of 5 stars Making the first few months a little easier.......2007-09-07

We buy this as a baby shower gift for friends every time. It worked wonders. At last we had a peaceful car ride (our son would scream in the car seat anytime we went somewhere). Oh beloved static!
These techniques work if only people give them a chance. Too many parents say their kid hates to be swaddled. Well, they were more squished than that for nine months. These techniques make sense too.
I hear the book is great too but I think the DVD must be better, especially for those who don't have time to read the book. Watching Dr. Karp use these techniques with real babies is amazing. And the sounds included on the DVD are handy too.

5 out of 5 stars Good way to calm your baby from 0-3 months.......2007-09-06

I found Dr. Karp's techniques beneficial in calming our baby. It is also a great way for Dad to interact with the baby. This is a quick video to watch as well, in case you don't have time to read the book.

5 out of 5 stars THE HAPPIEST PARENTS ON THE BLOCK.......2007-09-04

Our son was not exactly colicky or high need during his "4th trimester" of his life however, a trusted friend recommended the dvd so highly we thought we'd watch it anyway and practice the 5 S's method to see what would happen. Well, our son went from being slightly fussy before bedtime with just a couple of wake ups throughout the night to drifting off to sleep without any drama and sleeping the whole night through from the age of 4 weeks until now at age of 10 months! We simply couldn't believe the transformation. Our family as well as other parents were shocked that our son was such a great sleeper during the night which made him very happy and rested during the day. My husband and I believe that Dr Karp's method was the key reason behind our baby's amazing new nighttime routine. We highly recommend the dvd or the book to any frustrated and sleep-deprived parents or even those parents who think that their baby doesn't need the 5 S's method. Dr Karp's method is simply a whole new level of peaceful nighttime routine for babies.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The perfect gift and now the perfect helper........2007-09-05

I originally bought this system for my brother when he and his wife were expecting their first as a baby shower gift. Turns out it was a hit. His wife said it was just the thing for new mums and although my brother was skeptical he soon was telling me how amazing it was to actually understand what Oscar was crying for and how to handle things. Now that my wife and I are expecting we've got our own copy. The amazing thing is how simple it is to learn. And while the 2 disc system might upset some, I think it makes sense as the lady says to learn the first few words and master them before trying to learn the others. I've seen it work for my brother and his wife and am so happy that I will be able to help my baby from day one and better meet their needs.

5 out of 5 stars WORTH EVERY PENNY!.......2007-08-30

My husband and I purchased the Dunstan Baby Language DVD after watching it on Oprah. It helped us through her first 3 months of life and gave us a calm baby that slept through the night since day one. We owe it all to this program and knowing what our daughter needed the minute she asked for it.
I do not think it was overpriced at all. I just saw it as paying a little less than $20 a month for three months. It really was a great deal for our sanity!

4 out of 5 stars Your baby is talking to you.......2007-08-23

We watched this video before and just after our little baby was born. It really helped. Some of the tips (she calls them "solutions") are pretty self-explanatory (eg if your baby says "neh", the word for hunger, feed him) Baby is now 7 weeks old, and I just watched again last night and really recognized the different cries. They were definitely familiar. It was fun to watch with my mom and see her enjoy learning to listen to him.

5 out of 5 stars A small price for our sanity!.......2007-08-21

As a first time mom I was nervous (to say the least) about the prospect of a crying baby. After watching the Dunstan Baby DVD I felt more confident and prepared. When my son came it was such a relief to know what he was crying about! My husband loved it too, and could even help to settle him. WOW! I couldn't recommend this more highly. Worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars We're all more relaxed now.......2007-08-21

The DVD is really good. It's ingenius that someone was actually able to determine what the sounds are. It enabled me not to just immediately try and feed her when she cried which is what I would think to do.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very Helpful.......2007-08-08

We've been working with our 16 month old daughter for several months on signing and this video really helps reinforce the concepts. She loves it. The signing has definitely provided a way to communicate that lowers frustration levels. If you're looking for a way to get started signing with your child, this is a good product.

1 out of 5 stars Dangerous- avoid!.......2007-08-07

From a recent study-

These products had the strongest detrimental effect on babies 8 to 16 months old, the age at which language skills are starting to form. "The more videos they watched, the fewer words they knew," says Christakis. "These babies scored about 10% lower on language skills than infants who had not watched these videos."

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD.......2007-07-31

My daughter has been watching this for months now. She knew some signs from a book I purchased but she learned more from this video. Even though she can now "say" all the words, she still likes to sign for them as well. This is still among one of her most favorite DVDs to watch.

3 out of 5 stars Quality problems.......2007-07-29

We ordered Baby Einstein - My First Signs and My Baby Can Talk - Sharing Signs at the same time. My son (9 mo old) likes both but likes My Baby Can Talk - Sharing Signs better. Both videos include a variety of helpful signs like mommy, daddy, bath, kiss, cereal, milk, drink, eat, change, sleep, etc. Both are well directed & scripted with cute music, but the Baby Einstein copy we received has big quality problems. In several spots the screen goes blurry (kind of like your TV does when cable is having problems.) Another thing, I especially like the enclosed quick reference signing card that comes with My Baby Can talk, but was not provided with Baby Einstein. Bottom line, if you are buying just one buy My Baby Can Talk Sharing Signs.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining for baby 3 months old.......2007-07-29

My baby found this dvd very entertaining, I thought it was boring to watch but she cant take her eyes off the tv when the dvd is on. It is great for babies, even as early as 3 months.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars National Geographic In the Womb.......2007-09-09

I LOVE this video. I teach pregnancy/childbirth classes at a Pregnancy Center and use this video as a tool while teaching fetal development. It helps the mom to bond with their baby. We are also a prolife center and this helps show that the developing baby is not just a clump of cells that can be aborted, but a human being!

5 out of 5 stars Review of "In the Womb" DVD.......2007-08-31

The film was excellent. Very informative and interesting at the same time. Opened up a whole new view of the growth and development of a baby & mother that happens during the nine months of pregnancy.

5 out of 5 stars Amazingly educational.......2007-08-24

This DVD goes beyond any other documentary I have ever seen. It gave a wonderful window into life in the womb.

4 out of 5 stars good information resource.......2007-08-09

this video gave a lot of information on the development of the fetus, much from the perspective of the fetus and its experiences and sense development. A lot of cutting-edge study and simulation. I would have liked to see a bit more actual footage, as opposed to computer graphics, but the graphics were well-done.

4 out of 5 stars Very informative.......2007-07-12

My wife and I bought this for some extra insight into her pregnancy and I must say that it is most informative.

I believe that many modern documentaries are looking for PG ratings so that young members of our world may watch without being afraid. The documentary does not go into details of what could go wrong or any issues such as that. Instead, it focuses on what happens in a typical pregnancy. They even show a birth and it happens to be a very pg-13 sort of birth. Great for introducing curious youngsters to how all of this works, though if I were reading this, I would preview it before showing my youngsters to see if it was right for me.

In my humble opinion, this is an excellent modern documentary.

Danny Kaye spoofs Robin Hood and Scaramouche in this inventive slapstick swashbuckler. Portraying the clownish but good-hearted entertainer Hawkins, he infiltrates the court of the corrupt Basil Rathbone (up to his usual brand of cruel villainy) disguised as the legendary king of jesters, Giacomo. After a court sorceress hypnotizes Hawkins into believing he is also a legendary assassin, Hawkins has more identities than he can keep straight, and Kaye zips back and forth between them at, literally, a snap of the fingers. Comic highlights include a wonderful sword fight with Rathbone in which he constantly switches identities, and the classic "chalice from the palace/vessel with pestle" wordplay as Hawkins plays "hide the poison" and forgets where it is. With comely Glynis Johns as his spy-in-arms love interest, Angela Lansbury as the scheming princess, and Mildred Natwick as the dotty spellcaster, this is Danny Kaye at his comic best. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars Great Classic Humor.......2007-09-10

Danny Kaye is terrific in this '50s movie of love and treachery in Old England. His comedy ranges from slapstick to subtle, and people of all ages (above 5-6) will be entertained. His backup by Basil Rathbone as the villian only serves to delight. Angela Lansbury and Glynis Johns round out the amorous adventures for "The Court Jester".

5 out of 5 stars The Court Jester 1956.......2007-08-19

This Spectacular production features the tremendous pageantry and color of 12th century England and considerable talents of Danny Kaye (1913-1987). Kaye plays the court jester who becomes involved with outlaws trying to overthrow the king (Cecil Parker 1897-1971). In between singing , dancing and clowning , he still finds time for some violent jousting with knights , dangerous duels with swordsmen , and Rescuiting damsels in distress . A Delightful comedy for the whole family . High Quality Transfer.

This movie most certainly stands out as Danny Kaye's masterpiece. Witty, musical and constantly amusing The Court Jester should be a cornerstone in every families DVD collection.

Amazon.com essential video

The Baby Einstein Company's "video board books" were designed as music-focused developmental tools to stimulate babies' brains (prompted by research proving that exposure to classical melodies can improve verbal ability, spatial intelligence, creativity, and memory in youngsters). Now the company is expanding into other art forms, including color and art. The idea remains the same--taking bold, beautiful objects (toys, puppets, nature scenes) and setting them to fun renditions of classical music (their recordings are easily the best in the crowded field of child development). A new puppet--Vincent Van Goat--introduces the six primary colors and associates them with Van Gogh's paintings--"The Starry Night" for blue, "Wheat Fields with Reaper" for yellow. The only misstep is the poetry written and read by creator Julie Aigner-Clark, which is strongly reminiscent of Dr. Seuss's My Many Colored Days.

The company suggests the program is for toddlers between the ages of 1 and 4. Harsh sounds between segments--such as balloons popping and tires screeching--will draw the attention of youngsters but will probably render the video inappropriate for babes in arms. The video can be purchased by itself or with a beautifully produced 28-page book featuring Van Gogh's paintings, screen shots from the video, and Clark's poems. The combination set may be the best way to engage 3- and 4-year-olds' interest; they can follow along in the text while watching the video. Music includes "The William Tell Overture," "The Blue Danube," "Bolero," and Brahms's "Lullaby." The video also provides information on the cool toys seen in the ending "Toy Chest" segment. --Doug Thomas

It's fun all the time! Not one part boring. My baby loves it and she watches with other kids who are older than her and they all give the mommies a break!!
I love to watch it too cause it's colorful and withn beautiful images... the puppet show is very cute too!

3 out of 5 stars stressfull music.......2007-08-05

My baby is 7 months old and loves Baby Einstein videos, but this one does not call her attention at all, especially with its music, it is so stressfull!!!! The toys are not as nice as on the other videos and whomever is telling the story when the "puppets" show up should speak louder...

4 out of 5 stars Bright colors and soft music.......2007-08-04

It's a nice video and I'm glad we got it, we use it a lot, but it isn't one of our best. For some reason it just doesn't hold his attention very long, though he does keep going back to it. I don't think it makes the color names important enough. It spells them out and says them quietly, but I don't think enough. The screen get painted with real life colors and scenes with those colors, balls, balloons, flowers, etc. It's a nice video to view before bed time because it is calming and relaxing where some videos tend to be more hyper. I sometimes put it on the laptop and let him watch and listen to it at bed time, in his crib. That's when he seems to like it the most.

I'm a big fan of Van Gogh's work so it was exciting for me to introduce this Baby Einstein DVD to my 11 month old daughter. She loves all the Baby Einstein DVD's and this one is no exception. The puppets are her favorite and they appear often.
As an adult, I love the poems, seeing van Gogh's work, the music (Ravel's Bolero) and the sheer joy it provides me daughter.

Little Einsteins is an exciting, educational program created by Disney and Baby Einstein that combines animation, real-life photography, and famous music and artwork with instantly likeable characters who have a passion for music and adventure. In this DVD prelude to the Playhouse Disney series (premier October 2005), Leo, June, Quincy, Annie, and Rocket set out to help a little caterpillar find the musical tree of many colors so that it can become a beautiful butterfly. The journey proves complex, but the ever-cheerful group uses their musical knowledge, careful listening skills, and ingenuity to ensure success. Beethoven's famous Ninth Symphony is featured extensively throughout the 61-minute program and viewers ages 3 to 7 are encouraged to sing and clap along as they learn about rhythm, melody, musical terms and careful listening skills. Viewers also delve, quite literally, into the artwork of masters that include Van Gogh and Monet, visit American cities and wildernesses, and get a first-hand look at the amazing butterfly migration down the East Coast of the United States to Mexico. DVD Bonus features include a "Navajo Maze Game" that tests listening skills; "DisneyPedia," a more in-depth look at Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the cities visited in the program, and the annual butterfly migration; and "Backstage Disney: Meet the Team" with more information about the show's main characters. --Tami Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship..........2007-03-27

Wow! is all that I can say about this entire series!!!! I have an 8 month old who will sit and watch this show over and over again if I let her. It amazes me that this show is actually fun and educational and even as an adult I enjoy to watch it unlike some other shows for babies that put both me and my daughter to sleep. I am pleased and highly recommend this any parent...

5 out of 5 stars I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!!!.......2007-03-15

This tape has been a lifesaver on more than one occassion. My boys LOVE Einsteins. Not to mention how much they learn from them. They move and jump and dance and sing...This is the next best thing to Sesame Street.
My son even has a rocket that he does EVERYTHING with - we are lucky if we can wash it.
It also helps children imagine and learn...(oops now I sound like a playhouse disney commercial) :-)

5 out of 5 stars A big adventure whetts the appitite of our little einstein.......2007-02-08

Our 2-year old daughter loved Baby Einstein and this dvd was plugged on those. We loved the fact it featured famous works of art and classical music in a contemporary way. Martha loves it and often fishes it out of the dvd crate for us to put on for her. The interactive part of the disc is a great hit with her.

A hit with little ones and grown up ones in our house at least.

4 out of 5 stars It gets their attention but you might need earplugs.......2007-02-08

I originally bought this for my youngest child, but it seems to be a hit with all the kids. I have to say I am sick of repetition of the few notes played over and over from Beethoven's 9th, but the kids like it and they'll probably never forget it. I give it 4 stars because of the annoyance factor.

John Waters's goofy, 1990 comedy about a Baltimore girl (Amy Locane) who can't decide if she should remain "good" in her 1954 world or hang out with the motorcycle boys is funny in a scene-by-scene way, but doesn't quite gel into the grand piece the director was hoping for. The cast is exceptionally likable, however, including Johnny Depp as an Elvis type and Iggy Pop as a chattering loony. The best material is set in a fringe world of bikers and losers on the outskirts of town, and Waters writes some hilarious sardonic dialogue for the characters. Cry-Baby is the last of Waters's more undisciplined features; he followed it with the glossier but no less perverse Serial Mom. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Who doesn't love this movie........2007-09-11

This is a classic for all ages, it has everything you could want in a movie. There is love, fighting, and the bad boys.

4 out of 5 stars Campy.......2007-09-03

True to form, Johnny Depp picks the campiest, goofiest, off-beat roles. "Cry Baby" is almost kind of sort of a take off of "Grease" but it's so silly and so fun that it's in a totally different genre. The ending drags a bit and the end itself leaves you going, "Huh?"; but all in all it's a fun flick, especially for Depp-aholics.

5 out of 5 stars love this movie.......2007-08-23

I'm a Johnny Depp fan and I love this movie. The entire cast does a really good job. The play is coming to San Diego later this year so I'm excited to see how it compares. If you're a Johnny fan like me then you need to get this movie

5 out of 5 stars Loved it for many years!.......2007-08-17

I still love watching this movie - I am glad to find the director's cut, because I heard that the one that I had watched on TV was not John Waters approved. I don't get the people who don't get this movie! They must be Squares.

3 out of 5 stars About as good as Hairspray.......2007-08-07

Generally, I'm not that into musicals, and I wasn't enthralled by this one. It's about as good as Hairspray. If you liked Hairspray, you'll probably like Cry Baby.

Product Description

In this exclusive 83 minute DVD premiere, featuring brand new, never before seen content, Stewie, the maniacal baby genius, is distracted from his plans for world domination when he sees a man who looks just like him on television. Convinced that this man must be his real father (after all, how could he possibly share genetic material with the dimwitted Peter?), Stewie sets off on a cross-country road trip to find him. But his incredible journey leads him to discoveries far more vile and shocking that anything found in his diaper.

Format: DVD MOVIE

Amazon.com

For Family Guy fans, there are no freakin' sweeter words than "Never Before Seen." A triumphant homecoming for the Griffins, Stewie Griffin is not so much a movie as it is a not-yet-aired three-episode story arc enhanced with a home-video-exclusive "red carpet premiere" prologue and an epilogue (capped, of course, with a fart joke). Family Guy's resurrection is a television miracle, and its creators have rewarded the faithful by picking up right where they left off, offending any and all sensibilities (recasting Jesus as comic magician Art Metrano), dissing the celebrity disenfranchised (Ellen Cleghorne references, anyone?), and generally taking potshots at anyone on their enemies list (Stewie breaks the neck of a reporter for Entertainment Weekly, the magazine that once called Family Guy "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). The Untold Story! is a star vehicle for Family Guy 's breakout character, in which the mega maniacal and matricidal infant has a Grinch-like change of heart after a near-death experience (and a disturbing encounter with Steve Allen in Hell) and, more life-altering, discovers a football-pated man who could be his father (the truth is more shocking!). As go the gags, so goes Family Guy, and there are enough good ones here to compensate for the many misfires. The Miller-esque (as in Dennis) penchant for channeling arcane pop culture can grow tiresome. But for those who do remember the words to the Who's the Boss theme song, know (or still care) who Steve Bartman is, and are always up for "a sexy party," this will be the greatest story ever untold. --Donald Liebenson

3 out of 5 stars Unfortunately..........2007-08-15

It is 3 episodes put together faking to be like a movie, but anyways, i thought it was good, but I didn't like once it came in the mail, the cover was different from the picture on here. I wanted the one with Stewie griffin, half his face showing and him saying "NEVER BEFORE SEEN!" but instead I got a boring black cover with the griffin family on it.

For the movie itself, it was funny and awesome, family guy-must see!
i was just disappointed in the cover art and how that picture lied to us all.

2 out of 5 stars Um, yeah..not so much.......2007-07-30

I am a rabid Family Guy fan. I was just like you guys staying up late at night watching Adult Swim watching re-runs and laughing at each joke as if they were new. When I heard the movie was coming come I was one of the first to order. I was completely excited, told all my friends. The movie finally came.

But then I put the DVD in.

Um, yeah..not so much. It was such a disappointment. It's like having two bad Family Guy episodes pasted together, and badly. I couldn't recommend it to anyone, but if you are a rabid fan you already have it anyway.

1 out of 5 stars one of the worst movies ever........2007-07-25

A full length Family Guy movie might sound like a good idea, and definitely a good financial move, considering how popular(and overrated imo) Family Guy is nowadays. But when I saw the results of this idea, I completely realized that Family Guy is not a show to make a feature film out of. Aqua Teen Hunger Force even worked better as a movie than Family Guy did. The whole thing is just 3 modern episodes tied together. And if you read my other Family Guy review, you'd know that I'm not a fan of alot of recent Family guy episodes. And many of the great flaws and negativities of recent episodes are all present in this movie. And even worse, I did not laugh even once throughout the whole movie. I laugh occasionally in every new family guy episode, but not once in this whole movie did I laugh.

3 out of 5 stars I got fooled. Content new at release time, but is a 'rerun' now.......2007-07-10

I am glad this was paid for by a gift certificate. That way I don't feel as foolish for spending money on something that has been shown on TV. This was released during a time when no new Family Guy was being shown on TV. Once it returned to TV, these episodes were aired.

Buy this if you like to 'own' what you see on TV.

I must admit, it is fun to watch them with the 'adult' language soundtrack. Cartoons that swear are worth a giggle. Don't worry, they do not swear a lot.

5 out of 5 stars Funny and Kool.......2007-07-06

This movie is hilarious its like as funny as the show itself like stewie goes back into time and sees he becomes a 35 year old virgin because he tried to kill a little boy by the swimming pool that 1 day.

Based on a couple of short stories (from The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven) by Sherman Alexie, Smoke Signals is a lean and assured feature that speaks well of its lengthy, rich evolution, including a development stint at Sundance. The first feature made by a Native American crew and creative team, the film concerns two young Idaho men with radically different memories of one Arnold Joseph (Gary Farmer), a former resident of the reservation who split years before and has just died in Phoenix. Arnold's strapping, popular son, Victor (Adam Beach), remembers him best as an alcoholic, occasionally abusive father who drove off one day and never came back. By contrast, Thomas Builds-the-Fire (Evan Adams), whom Arnold had saved from certain death years earlier, has chosen to exaggerate the man's life and deeds in a mythmaking fashion that drives Victor crazy. Circumstances bring the two together, however, in a bus ride to retrieve Arnold's ashes. There, in Phoenix, a confrontation with the reality of the dead man's fullest legacy has a profound effect on both characters. Alexie, who wrote the script and was personally involved in all aspects of the production, and first-time director Chris Eyre are so polished in their approach that you can barely feel the cinematic engine at work here. This is the kind of movie in which the characters seem to be driving everything forward, a captivating and pleasant experience that gets a little too tidy at the end (can we call a moratorium on scenes of human ashes lovingly disposed to the winds?), but which is undeniably moving. The cast, including Irene Bedard (the voice of and physical inspiration for Disney's Pocahontas) is outstanding. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A great Native American film.......2007-08-27

"Smoke Signals" is funny and poignant, one of my all-time favorite films. Not your typical "buddy flick", that's for sure.

5 out of 5 stars A POIGNANT TALE OF YOUTHFUL PAIN AND FORGIVENESS.......2007-08-25

"Celebrate the comedy that had audiences and critics cheering!" the CD jacket says ...
I have to ask - did the critic who wrote that see the same film I did?
What I saw was by no means a comedy. There was none of the cheap, cotton-candy, "feel good and forget it" humour that we as Americans associate with that word. What I saw wasn't..... funny....

What I did see was: a powerful, poignant, painful and extremely insightful tale of the unfortunate, haunted life of one young boy and his incorrigibly upbeat friend growing up on the Couer D'Alene Indian Reservation ("the Rez") - then leaving in search of closure to the pain of a father's abandonment ... and his son's tortured unforgiveness....

This movie was a soulish, inward look at what it means/feels like to be a Native American in today's society. It is, however, much more than that: This is a masterfully told story that thoughtfully touches such powerful themes as parental death and desertion, alcoholism and fatherlessness, life as a minority, and that wayward sense of unbelonging afflicting today's capable youth who've yet to find their place in society... I was deeply touched by this film. I'm also appreciative of the fact that there is no gratuituous violence, nor any sex: two elements which, it seems, are used today as a means to assure wide audience appeal. This story needed neither, and it's a tribute to the professionalism of the film's writer, Sherman Alexie, that neither was used.

Smoke Signals was lent to me by a close friend of mine as a means to a glimpse inside his world as a Native American. I found it an enlightening, thought provoking, and emotionally stirring experience.

The film ends with this poignant monologue:

"How do we forgive our fathers?
Maybe in a dream?
Do we forgive our fathers for leaving us too often
- or forever -
when we were little?
Maybe for scaring us with unexpected rage?
Or making us nervous because there never seemed to be
Any rage there at all?
Do we forgive our fathers
For marrying - or not marrying - our mothers?
Or divorcing - or not divorcing - our mothers?
And shall we forgive them for their excess of warmth - or coldness?
Shall we forgive them for pushing or leaning...
For shutting doors - for speaking through walls...
Or for never speaking at all... or never being silent?
Do we forgive our fathers in our age - or in theirs?
Or in their death, saying it to them - or not saying it?
If we forgive our fathers....
What is left..?

.

this is one of the most enjoyable movies I have seeen as far as being different and being in a world we know not much of-The Native American Indian world-and the characters were so unique and so delightful-this film brought out so much in the characters-it was so hysterical and then so touching-such an amazing, enjoyable piece of work ! I look forward to passing this on to all my friends and Family!
