Arguably the most interesting and compelling feature in the Left Behind trilogy, Left Behind II: Tribulation Force finds the series' major characters--television journalist Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron), passenger jet captain Rayford Steele (Brad Johnson), his daughter Chloe (Janaya Stephens), and Pastor Bruce Barnes (Clarence Gilyard)--forming the core of a group dedicated to infiltrating and disrupting operations of the Anti-Christ, i.e., Nicolae Carpathia (a scary Gordon Currie), who has become leader of a world government. Meanwhile, humankind looks increasingly desolate and bleak, as the reality sinks in that hundreds of millions of people who suddenly vanished--including all the world's children--in the last film are not coming back. Veteran television director Bill Corcoran makes much of his scant resources to paint an apocalyptic vision, and when the film gets to indulge in some nifty effects (a pair of fire-breathing prophets--literally), the result is powerful. Drama, relationships, character development, and performances are quite smooth and should appeal to Christian and non-Christian viewers alike. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
What has happened to Hebrew in this film?.......2007-06-29
Just before Buck and Rabbi Ben-Yehuda cross over to the sealed teritory of the Western Wall in Jerusalem, we get a glimpse at a big red warning sign saying in English "Do not cross. Violators will be shot." Above the warning in English we get also what seems to be the Hebrew translation to that same warning. However, this is not the case. Someone has decided to either play a prank or just got it all wrong. The letters are in Hebrew but the words mean nothing except for phonetically copy the warning in English backwards. What's wrong? Not enough Jews in NY to translate it correctly? Not funny, just sick.
As to the movie itself, the film suffers from too much missionary mumbo-jumbo and makes very little logic if at all. It also covers all possible racist remarks and inuendos: the Muslims are portrayed as clumsy war-seekers that play into the hands of the Antichrist, whereas the Jews are the genius fools that can be manipulated by both good and evil only to finally witness and confess their historical mistake and sin respectfully.
All other religions are either forgotten or just gathered under the infamous "they will perish" kind of exclamation. Interestingly, The State of Israel is portrayed as a passive, impotent entity for it cannot defend itself in any way. When the Arab joined air forces surprise attack Israel in the first film, the IDF is practically paralysed. In the second film, it is the Antichrist who calls the shots as he orders complete siege of the Western Wall untill his arrival there.
Missionary could have been acceptable and maybe even convincing, in my opinion, if it would have followed some good sense and showed less ignorance. Otherwise, I prefer other positions.

I have heard that this story condones killing anyone that does not want to be converted to Christianity, or at least the video game 'Left Behind' does. This kind of stuff is not Christianity. This is not what Jesus did to those that were not interested in him 'converting' them- he forgave everyone and loved everyone unconditionally.

Customer Reviews:
Is the movie closed captioned??.......2007-08-25
Hi, I saw the movie at my church about 6 years ago and enjoyed it. Granted, it could be better but see if you can get the point of the story. We know movies are expected to be well done so it's worth the cost of admission to see, but never mind this due to what the movie is about. I cannot say enough how really, extremely important this movie is.
I was about to watch it again with my girlfriend at her home on DVD, but it didn't seem to be closed captioned at all. I didn't even think to check for subtitles as that was before I got familiar with how DVDs work, etc. Anyway, I'd like to know if this movie is indeed closed captioned, so is it??
To find out, assuming your TV isn't more than 14 years old, see if you can enable closed captioning somewhere on the menu, then play your copy and see if the captions appear, usually white text on black background. If you see it, then the answer to my question is yes. I'd like to order a copy if it is, so thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
Sincerely,
Darren
I almost missed it.......2007-03-23
I have had this movie for about 6 years, and just
watched it the other day. I almost missed it and it was
such a good movie. I didn't see anything contrary to
the Bible and it held my interest throughout the whole
movie. I don't see how anyone could give this less than
4 stars unless they are just expecting something really
"mainstream media". I found it to be pretty accurate and
entertaining.
"Sleeping Beauty" misses the rapture ... .......2007-01-01
Moving performances by Busey & Mandel (& especially Busey -- he made it seem real). Continues the sci-fi/virtual reality angle that was set up in the previous installment ("Revelation") with a much heavier emphasis on horror/supernatural warfare (which the inexperienced will probably find offensive).
I actually enjoyed this one -- although some of the situations didn't ring true for me (eg. the Antichrist's reaction to the last Hater "uplink") & the post-rapture world seemed a little too out-dated & hokey (who uses payphones any more?!) ...
But it's always interesting to me to see how Helen Hannah (played by Leigh Lewis) gets "woven" in & out of the storyline time & time again, even though she's not the star ... Her character is a little on the one-dimensional side (SOOOOPER-SAINT!), but likeable nonetheless.
Sony panders to fundie crowd, releases ponderous schlock.......2006-12-01
I can't believe Sony would have anything to do with this dreck. Yes I watched the entire movie, and it felt like it was four hours long. I don't know where to start, in describing this film's lameness. I kept hoping for some unintentional laughs, but they were only to be found in the occasional action scene in which Gary Busey had to move his enormous gut from one side of the set to the other. Howie Mandel manages to remember all his lines and avoid touching any of the other characters, so his germ-phobia was probably not too much of a factor, but he has little or no screen presence in his role. Margot Kidder manages to say all her lines without her dentures falling out, but the lines she is given to say are pretty stale. Nick Mancuso is a standout here, simply because he looks cool and has a strong screen presence, but it is not enough to save the movie. One gets the feeling that the Biblical message (or rather Bible-believer agenda) came first, and the screenplay was cobbled together to try to convey it. This is always a recipe for a ponderous film experience, unless the film is The Ten Commandments, or the story of Jesus' life or something directly from the Bible. Oh, and by the way, this movie was funded by fundies.. televangelists in fact. So even if you are not the type who would give donations directly to some shady TV preacher, by buying this DVD, you are putting some of the money into their pockets. So since the movie is dull and amateurishly put together, just skip it altogether.
I like this movie, because............2006-10-07
I like this movie, because, even tho it's a little cheesey, and not scary at all, I just felt kinda endeared to Gary and Margot & Howie- I think they did a great job of stirring my emotions. I think Margot Kidder is quite a trooper; she's been thru a lot since her Superman the Movie days, and every bit of it shows on her face. I really think she's a good person, and I would like to meet her someday if I ever get the opportunity.(yea, right, like that'll happen!) The one thing that cracks me up about this flick, tho, is even after waking up after at least a year long coma, Gary's character has got very long shaggy hair, and matching beard, but he didn't lose one ounce of that excessive belly fat! Hilarious! I still love this movie, tho.
Description
Tracking four Scrabble fanatics as they travel from tournament to tournament and eventually reach the U.S. nationals in San Diego, the film is a thoroughly entertaining and hilarious look at a board game that's an occasional amusement for some-and a serious obsession (or disturbing addiction) for others.
Customer Reviews:
a fun look at the quirkiness of Scrabble players.......2007-08-08
It's really amazing that people take Scrabble as seriously as they do in this film. These guys are really brilliant, and this movie is at times humorous, and at times very moving in its portrayal of their lives as they pursue the championchip. It's a good documentary and definitely worth watching.
Obsession . . ........2007-08-04
A movie about Scrabble that needs an R rating? For language and drug use, this one qualifies. That mild-mannered national champion on the Today Show who looks like an accountant? Would you believe he's an obsessed man, living on Maalox and pumped up on whatever is the Scrabbler's form of steroids? This amusing and informative documentary reveals the shadowy underside of what looks like a pretty harmless, even rarified pastime. But leave your assumptions and stereotypes at the door.
The four Division 1 players that the filmmakers follow for 9 months are not somebody you'd probably like to know in real life. Lacking social skills (let alone social graces) they live in a twilight zone of words, words, words (forget what they mean, as long as they're in the official dictionary) and the inability to focus on anything else. When it's all over, you can shake your head and thank your lucky stars you never got hooked on this drug yourself. Not that the Game is the only addictive substance in the film. One player happily blunts his anxieties with whatever he's smoking in that pipe plus a trip to Tijuana for dubious R&R. In spite of it all, you'll find yourself cheering along with everyone else for the winner of the national championship. It's that kind of movie.
word warriors.......2007-06-14
Unlike its linguistic cousins about the national spelling bee (Spellbound) and crossword puzzles (Word Play), this documentary film never rises to the level of the mighty social phenomenon that it describes--Scrabble. My mother played Scrabble every day during her lunch hour; her battered board game was the one momento from her estate that I wanted. The film tries to build anticipation by tracking the nine months leading up to the 2002 US National championship in San Diego where 700 scrabblers compete for a first prize of $25,000. The narrative follows four word warriors who are not only uninteresting but unlikable: Matt Graham (ranked #7 in the country), Joel Sherman (#13), Marlon Hill (#29), and Joe Edey (#1). Except for Edey, none of these guys has anything like a normal life or job; they play Scrabble all day and are penniless. Hill sports dread locks and a foul mouth. Sherman is a college drop out obsessed by his acid reflux. Graham uses brain boosters. The film could have done more with average players like the neighbors who play outside in NYC's Washington Square, the Scrabble club at an elementary school, or people like my mom. Unfortunately, this is a mediocre film about a great game.
Best Scrabble Documentary!.......2007-05-13
If you enjoy puzzle games or strategic competition, you should definitely see this movie; and, of course, if you're a Scrabble fan, too. This film does a great job depicting both the game, the brand, and the individual players involved.
Needs more Fatsis, but still a fascinating film of an obsessive subculture.......2007-02-17
'Word Wars' quite obviously has its genesis in Stefan Fatsis' outstanding book 'Word Freak,' a fascinating look at the Scrabble subculture. That said, I wish the movie used more of Fatsis. He appears here with some commentary, and the filmmakers note Fatsis' book and his immersion into the playing circuit. His observations on the game and its personalities at the tournament circuit's upper echelons are the best part of the movie. Additionally, Fatsis' book and this movie have resulted in ESPN now showing some of these tournaments. Fatsis is the analyst on these telecasts. His journalism background + his Scrabble cultural immersion make his commentary fascinating.
Fatsis does have his own Scrabble movie ('Scrabylon'), and that may have played a part. In truth, Fatsis' smaller role is probably due to the filmmakers' treasure trove of material resulting from its coverage of four of the nationally-ranked players. Frankly - and these guys would be the first to admit it - these are four less-than-fully-formed human beings. That's the fascination of the movie. Only one of the four has anything nearly resembling a 'job' as the general public would see it. These gentlemen have filled their lives with their Scrabble obsession.
It's of extremely good fortune for the filmmakers that one of the four featured individuals eventually triumphs that year - in front of the cameras - at the Nationals.
By the way, for viewers of the film, here's a neat kick: go to Stefan Fatsis' 'Word Freak' here on these pages and you'll see the spotlight review written by none other than G.I. Joel himself, Joel Sherman.
Description
Upon its release in 1991, TRIBULATION 99 became an instant counter-culture classic. Baldwin's "pseudo-pseudo-documentary" presents a factual chronicle of US intervention in Latin America in the form of the ultimate far-right conspiracy theory, combining space aliens, environmental catastrophe, cattle mutilations, killer bees, religious prophecy, covert action, and just about every other crackpot theory under the sun. A juggernaut of hard truths, deadpan irony, and found-footage - industrials, graphs, cartoons, movies from Hollywood B to Mexican Z - TRIBULATION 99 constructs a truly perverse vision of American colonialism.

Product Description
Audio/Visual Slide Presentation. The Book of Daniel provides a prophetic look at all of history from his time until the time of the end. Although there are several "separate" prophecies, they all are about the same series of events. Daniel describes all of the world Empires from his time to the present time, and they have been proven accurate by secular history. Daniel describes 490 years of tribulation decreed against Israel, 483 were completed when Christ was crucified. The remaining 7 years is the future Great Tribulation described by Jesus in Matthew 24,25 and the book of Revelation 11-13 and 17-18. Daniel and Revelation give the exact number of days between events from the Antichrist signing the covenant to the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom.

Product Description
Audio/Visual Slide Presentation. "Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later." Revelation 1:19.
The book of Revelation is the book of endings whereas the book of Genesis is the book of beginnings. Revelation completes the Bible. It reveals both Jesus and His program for the end times. The book commences and ends with a blessing and a stern warning to those who change the words and/or the meaning of the Scriptures. The book is divided into three distinct parts, -- the past, the present and the future. This presentation describes the chronology of events dictated by the book of Revelation.
