Both my mother and I loved it. If you don't mind a little 'mature' female nudity the storyline is sweet and at time hysterical. The performances show a broad range of emotions. It's a great movie to watch when you just want to relax.

In Rylstone, a small village in North Yorkshire, John Baker, beloved husband of Angela Baker, dies of leukemia. Angela belongs to the Women's Institute, an organization not unlike the many women's garden clubs that are all over these United States (Visiting lecturers expound on the joys of broccoli). Ms. Baker, along with the other middle-aged women in her group, comes up with the bold new idea of printing a calendar of "nude, not naked" women to raise money for the local hospital in John's honor. After all he did say that the last stage of a woman's life is her most glorious-- sort of the last rose of summer motif-- because she will soon turn to seed. These good women became an overnight sensation as it was a photo shot heard around the world. Their story was the basis for the tasteful film "Calendar Girls," starring Helen Mirren as Chris Harper, "Miss January" and the driving force behind the concept in the first place, and Julie Walters as Annie Clark, and directed by Nigel Cole. The Brits do this sort of understated classy film so well. We need look no further than the recent "Mrs. Henderson Presents" and "The Queen" for evidence. The acting here is flawless, the photography is excellent and all the props the nude ladies use to make themselves less naked are appropriately placed.

Included on the DVD are interviews with both the director and the original twelve calendar ladies, neither of which should be missed.

This collection of athletes gets back on track as one of the best in this series after the rather akward 2006 installment. Once again, Francois Rousseau is not behind the camera, but the photo shoots seem to have their own feeling to them. There are still poses with some, um, equipment that can reflect past poses, but there is some freshness to the overall presentation. Many of the shoots are back on location, such as in a stadium, and many are absolutely scorching. Some of the poses given produce some great memorable images. One only has to look at the cover to know what's in store--and that is merely the tip of what you can expect when you watch. What's also great is that some of the athletes from the first two making of Dieux du Stade Calendar DVDs show up here after skipping the 2006 installment, like Julian Hans, and they all give new and highly memorable shoots. This version is mostly in black and white with some great blasts of color thrown in every so often, and the combination works really well. The music...well still leaves a lot to be desired, but I would say it is more tolerable than what was given in past installments.If you're a fan of the series, this is a no brainer purchase, as the series is back on track and headed for a hopefully equally scorching 2008 installment. I know I can't wait for this year to end already ;)

The Guys Are Gods.......2007-02-13

The male body and especially the face have never been so erotically photographed. And this entry outshines the rest. The main attraction is the faces, I would say, as they reveal a sensuality, sometimes French, sometimes Italian, that seems to have been bred out of the American male. It is fascinating to see these hunky European males so relaxed in poses that have been made famous by 50s pinups like Diana Dors, yet without any sense of shame or hint of cheapness or vice. The macho innocence in their expressions, at times confused, annoyed or even bored, adds to the fun. I do not know if women are buying these DVDs and calendars in droves. I suspect it is gay guys, but I maintain that not since Greece has the male body been presented so matter-of-factly as part human, and part divine.

One of the best DVD collections for what I paid.......2007-02-25

Well you get over 12 hours of content featuring 150 playmates. This collection includes as a bonus the 1987, 1988, and 1989 Video Playmate Calenders. The best thing about this is if you watch it in order you can see the progression of the years and playmates in the series. Also you can see the playmates at their height of their careers and body fitness (specifically before they got knocked up or babied). Early on you can can notice the natural beauty versus the fakeness, implants, and god awful tattoos that show up later. My favorite time is probably the mid to late 90s since I recognize most of the names and remembered having the magazines and video calendars back then. However, a downside is finding out what has happened to them since then (thanks a lot wikipedia). In terms of video, there are times you will notice minor quality loss in the transfers. For Audio-there's nothing really great here. You will most likely hear the same unlicensed, repetitive songs from one DVD to the next but that's not what you should really be paying attention to anyway. So,if you are looking for one of the most complete collections of women and B-level starlets (except maybe Pamela Anderson) then this is the right one for you.

Ton of content.......2007-01-09

Well what can you say, with this you can the best and worst of the 90's. As far as nude females are concerned. You get to see the early 90's with big hair in multiple places. And finally you get to the mid to late 90's my favorite period for Playmates. Pretty much all of my favorites were in there, Stacy Sanches, Victoria Silvstedt, Karen McDougal, and several others. If you can stomach the price then you'll realize that for what you pay for each of the years seperately you are getting one heck of a bargain. Granted I don't watch the first 2-3 years just because I don't find the Playmates of that period to be very attractive. Apart from that the movies are the same just thrown together so you get a couple of years on each disc. By the way, good luck being able to sit through 12 hours of this!

The fighting scene in this movie looks like a kids' play. The acting is laughable. The plot is full of logicall holes. This is the worst thing because it's supposed to be a detective movie. For example, the detective was able to predict what room of a building the murderer was going to kill a person by looking at the pictures of all the buildings where previous killings took place!

Intended First of a Series? I watched in complete disbelief........2007-04-30

In watching the movie, I began to wonder if it was supposed to be the first of a series. I kept thinking that it was trying to be an updated version of "The Thin Man" series and so this movie was trying to establish the characters. With that reasoning, it makes sense the there a number of sub-plots that remain undeveloped and that the characters have strange relationships that go unexplained.

However what I mostly wondered about was what they were thinking when they made this movie. This movie has done something that is truly unique. It has found ways to be bad that I have never seen in any other movie. The script is preposterous. The characters are artificial and their relationships make no sense. it is a comedy that is not funny. It is a mystery that is no suspenseful. It is thriller that is not exciting. Like others, I watched this movie in complete disbelief.

casting and the storey make this movie.......2007-02-18

inventive and clever, this storey comes to life with a truely all star cast. some strong language by one cast member is the only thing that i was disappointed in and, of course, it was written that way; not his fault... but the same effect could have been accomplished with a toned down version. but 60 seconds of ranting are far out weighed by the rest of the movie.

I watched this film for the first time because of Alan Rickman, and I can happily say that I wasn't disappointed. This film is meant to be a comedy-not to be taken as seriously as some people who have reviewed this film have done. (In response to one reviewer-no, I am NOT a friend of nor am I a family member of the filmmaker). The only thing that I was disappointed about was that there were so few scenes with Ed. Being Nick's sidekick and someone who helps him solve the case (along with Bernadette), I would have thought we would have seen him more - I just can't get enough of his milky baritone voice :)

First Moonstruck-Now Moonstink.......2006-01-14

Despite the talented cast this is perhaps the most ridiculous film ever.A goofy hippy copy laughs along the way trying to catch an eleven murder serial killer.This writer did Moonstruck, but this is Moonstink.Seeing Rod Steiger with this material is a tragedy.The case is a joke, the characters are impossibly lame, and the dialogue would gag a collie.This film is worth seeing only to gain appreciatiation for the value of screenwriters.No amount of acting talent can lift this turkey out of the Bankok privey.I just watched this film and at the conclusion I just sat there with my mouth open not believeing how bad the film was.Saradon, Keitel,KLine, Steiger, and Rickman....will try and forget this dog their entire lives. I cannot imagaine how any studio or distributing company let this turkey reach the public.Have I gotten the point accross that the film is weak....I hope so.If I could give it zero stars or even better, minus eleven stars, I would.

Non "sporty" guys .......2007-02-09

This edition of the making of the Dieux du Stade calendar is a bit lacking compared to what came before. Francois Rousseau is NOT the photographer here, and his absence is very noticeable.For one, the locations for the shoots are all in studio, therefore somewhat neglects what these guys do for a living. They're athletes, so you would expect some recogniton of that. There is some in some...um..."ball handling," but it's just not the same as when Francois Rousseau had his eye on those types of poses. It's as if the new photographer is trying to channel Rousseau's style, and it just doesn't work. Outdoor locations would have surely fit with the previous editions, allowing for the athletes to be more active.Another gripe is that there isn't as many shoots with multiple guys. Most are one athlete photo shoots, which isn't entirely bad, but some more "guys together" would have been fun to watch as in past editions.And the music, well, it fails here as well. Classical was the choice and it just seemed too boring for what's supposed to be a fun ride.There are some good shots in here, like the good use of a bed, and there are some new dreamy guys mixed with some old familiars (whom we get to hear as well), but this edition just didn't light my fire--hold my attention--as previous installments.I would recommend purchasing this only with previous installments of the "Dieux du Stade Making of," or with the 2007 edition, for the inclusion of memorable shots are few, and this edition would go well as a companion piece as opposed to a solo purchase.

Now in the 3rd generation the Dieux Du Stade calendar and inturn the DVD went with a studio based style. I like the approach and it was much better than last year's situations. Also I like that the DVD has gone back to black and white - much sexier than last year when it was in colour.

A little dissappointed that some of the guys for the first two DVDs didn't make a third showing but Julien Arias and the NZ guy did make up for it. As I tell my friends, I will be rooting (!) for the French Team in the next Rugby World Cup. Who knew rugby could be so sexy !!!

If you like the first two DVDs you will enjoy this one - I know that I did.

Another hit for Dieux Du Stade!.......2006-01-04

I don't know what the other two reviewers are griping about. This years DVD is in the same line as the previous two years. Artistic shots of the Stade team and a few friends. The DVD was never meant to be pornographical, as the previous two reviewers seem to have expected it to be. As far as only three guys dare to go bare - rubbish - they all strip down completely and pose for the camera. Just because you do not see their family jewels (with the exception of two or three) should not demean the beauty of this DVD. And, if you watch the previous two, they don't show them there either (again, with the exception of one or two). If you enjoyed the previous two, you will enjoy this one as well. It's artistic, it's fun, it's sexy, and very enjoyable. The only thing I would have liked would have been to see Michalak, Mege, Lode, and Deltour again. They are not on this DVD.

A disappointment this year.......2005-12-11

This 2006 edition is a disappointment compared to the previous two editions. It doesn't look like they put much effort into it this time around. The models are not posed in interesting locations, it is all done in a photo studio so the poses get repetetive - just standing in front of a screen or wall mostly. The music will put you to sleep - it's dainty classical French parlor music. ZZZZzzzzzzz. I suppose they don't have to pay royalties to anyone that way. The models this time around are uglier and heavier for the most part (Julien Arias being a delightful exception). Overall, they are not attractive. There is no music video this time around, either. I hope they put a little more effort into making next year's more interesting. They got very lazy this year.

This DVD of the making of the 2005 calendar presents a new look and more outdoor locals that made me thoroughly enjoy this collection of athletic wonders. This presentation is in color (with the exception of a bonus black and white segment that looks back at the 2004 making of), and I think it was a great move. You can see more details to the guys than in the previous making of. Some artistic flair might be missing with the absense of black and white, but there are still some great scenes of beauty here. A lot of the filming takes place outdoors, such as along a beach (sandy buns ahoy), that makes the shoots more visually pleasing. Though, I could have done without some camera work that does seem a bit erratic (zooming in and out). While there is lack of a lot of frontal nudity, I really didn't mind. I wouldn't mind seeing more of these guys, but for me less was just right; the sweet faces and great bodies are what keeps drawing me in. Perhaps because these guys are not professionals, they didn't want for all to be exposed. They still are sportsmen, and probably wanted to go the artistic route, for which the content pleasingly provides. More toned and sculpted guys (along with a couple of what I would call "rugged" ones) are greatly displayed, some returning from the previous installment, and they are breathtaking. My favorite, in Julian Hans (he has such a killer smile), finally gives a great photo shoot that's generally playful with Gregory Mahe that is fun to watch. This kind of playfullness extends to a lot of the photoshoots with more than one athlete; they seem like they're having fun and just aren't forced to pose together. Later when Julian and two other rugby players, Jerome Fillol and Clement Wattier, join him nude on the beach, they play a few moves from rugby. The overall tone of this compilation seems to just be: fun. The only misstep to all this great imagery is, once again, the choice in music. Why they don't go the route of simply orchestrated, I dunno, but better music needs to accompany the great scenes given. If you're a fan of the male form, you need to have this in your collection. Once again, the making of the Dieux du Stade calendar provides content that is a sight to behold and enjoy.

They are too shy to be real men.......2006-11-23

Out of the 48 models only 4 show full frontal nudity shots. You can look at genitals of another 5 if you use the zoom function creatively.

I thought these people were real men and thus not afraid to show their bodies. I was wrong. The models are extremely shy with few exceptions. Somebody should tell them that they are not judged by the size of the soft members. [...].

I found about 10% of the models attractive. Julian Hans was one of them but sadly he is as shy as most of them.

Alexis Driollet is one of the few good one who shows it all.

Terminally Boring.......2006-11-08

Here we see how many ways a naked man can cover his crotch (3, if holding a football-4). And we see them over and over and over again.
I assume the whole series sucks - I've fast-forwarded through two and that's plenty.
I'd rather watch the guys play rugby!

The models are obviously not embarrassed or shy and more than willing, on the contrary it is the producers/directors/editors that wanted to keep things G rated. I didn't expect [...] or sexual content, but I certainly didn't expect the film to stop when the pubic hair started. Judging from the BOOK, there was more [...] to be seen as it is a very important part of the male body and absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. I do understand these are real people but I can't believe they are all prudes.

This playmate video while nice is lacking in some areas. what i dont get about these playmate videos is that they give the lesser looking playmates the hotter segments while the hotter playmates get lame segments. take jamie westenhiser who is smoking hot. both of her sets while alright(just b/c she is so hot) are lacking. in the first part of jamies set, shes on a beach and deosnt even get naked. u only get quick glimpes of her naked body and barely get to check out her rearend. jamies next segment starts out alright with her stripping out of her suit dress but this extremely hot introduction is cut short so jamie can bathe. yeah she looks good bathing, but i wanted to see more of her buns walking around in garters. same type of stuff with destiny's segment. why cant playboy get a better director? this video is nice because the girls are hot, but a lot of the segments could be done better.

The DVD "Playmate VIDEO CALENDAR 2006" compared with previous Playboy's Video Calendars, seems a little poor: menu without music, lack of bonus material and the segments of Colleen Shannon and Tiffany Fallon already featured in previous DVDs.
However some scenes with Scarlett Keegan and Kara Monaco are very beautiful and artistic like a painting.
