Absolutely Worthless.......2007-07-06
Do not buy this garbage. The production value on this disc is horrible. You can't hear the instructor over the music. What you can hear is the strange heavy breathing of the cemeraman. The camera is never properly locked off and basically makes me dizzy with all the shaking. The instruction is incomprehensible and the material is consistently incomplete or incorrect. Anyone rating this item higher than one star must be someone with something to gain from selling this item. Do not fall for it.
very basic but just that.......2007-03-10
I was a little bit disappointed I expected that it would show more.
I LOVE this DVD!!!=).......2006-10-28
What else is there to say about The Art of Knitting!?! I love it! This dvd started it all for me. I learned to knit like a pro in no time and even though my knitting dvd library is much bigger now...this is definitely one of the dvd's I use the most. I can't say enough about it, just get it and see for yourself!!!
Hands Down.... I mean Hands UP Fantastic!.......2006-10-05
I am an expert knitter/designer and I also teach. I really expected very little from this DVD. I got this DVD because I am most comfortable knitting "continental" style, and I HOPED to: 1) get a refresher on American style, 2) pick up some alternative beginner techniques, and 3) find alternative/clearer language to improve my teaching.
I found all this and MORE. This is a marvelous teaching tool that I would highly recommend to any begginning knitter, and I will recommend it to anyone taking a knitting class to augment the hands on teaching with additional info.
If hands on teaching is not available, this should do it... going alongside a teacher and a novice knitter - it's a great set up. For me, the begginning steps got a bit tedious, but I expected that - I would expect it to be very comforting to someone who is new to it, and just the right pace for a begginner.
My only tiny qualm with this video (if you watch ALL the sections) is a focus in two segments on Buddism. I expect this from the author of THE ZEN OF KNITTING, but it was repeated in a knitting circle segment that was heavily religious. This CAN be informative as to how a knitting group can become an affinity group for people of a religion, but... it's off-putting in a begginning knitter class.
DO watch the extra features, the ones on the making and dying of yarns are so informative, and the artist who talks about color theory has wonderful things to think about that will influence the way you combine color and think about your knitting.
Simply fantastic. GET IT, and Get knitting!
SIX Stars If I Could!!!.......2006-09-23
The Art of Knitting was great for a beginner knitter like myself. A few minutes after popping in the DVD I was on my way to knitting my first hat. The Knitting Library was great for help w/ terms and abbreviations and the jazz selection to knit by was wonderful. This DVD is a great introduction to the world of knitting and has a ton of exciting projects for beginner and advanced knitters alike. If you feel overwhelmed when looking at knit book instructions and illustrations then I would highly reccmmend this DVD because the knitting lessons with Jennifer makes you feel like you have your very own personal instructor. There's so much on this DVD you just have to see it for yourself, I know you'll love it too! I can easily see why this is the #1 knitting DVD on the market. Go and buy it!

** PARENTING MAGAZINE MOM-TESTED VIDEO OF THE YEAR!!! **
** GOLD AWARD WINNER, 2003 National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA).**
** PREFERRED CHOICE AWARD, Creative Child Magazine **
The world's greatest art comes alive in time to a fully-orchestrated score on this one-of-a-kind educational video. Stunning visual effects, live footage and traditional animation allow children to watch goldfish morph into a Matisse, and their own paintings become masterworks. The onscreen choreography actively involves young viewers in the the rhythms, textures and patterns of the art and the music, stimulating their imagination and jumpstarting their creative learning capabilities.
The smallest viewers benefit from exposure to color, shapes, music and movement, while older kids learn about creativity and composition. Chinese, Japanese and African themes show art as a reflection of our world. And first-class production quality invites adults to make early learning a family affair!

An Engaging Visual Treat.......2007-02-07
This video presents gorgeous artwork in a creative way - moving images that sweep across the screen until it is filled. My children recognized the artwork from "Goodbye Moon" and others were new. My two boys, 3 and 20 months, love this video and it keeps their attention with lovely art, colors and music. I love to watch this video because it is so beautiful! I would have rated it higher except for "Star". Star Laureate seems to be disjointed from the art and doesn't present the artwork. My children love star anyway. I highly recommend this video.
still the best dvd .......2005-11-28
I bought the Little Laureate's for the Love of Art in February this year after reading all the reviews and I'm glad that I did. This is still the only dvd that can capture my 20-month-old daugther; she has been watching since she was eleven-month old and she is still watching today. The production is more tasteful and sophisticated than Baby Einstein. None of the other DVDs---Baby Einstein, Baby Prodigy or Brain Baby could keep her attention, not even five minutes; I'm glad that I didn't spend $$$ to purchase the Einstein DVD series because the production is so cheesy and cheap. I borrowed the other Litle Laureate's for the Love of World Travel from a local library but my daughter didn't like it as much. I highly recommend it.
The BEST video out there!!!!.......2005-08-27
I LOVE this video. My 6 month old loves it as well! She will sit and watch the entire 30 minutes without a peep. The music is fantastic and the artwork is amazing. Unlike other videos, the music isn't annoying to me. I could listen to the music over and over (which we do) while getting things done around the house while she is watching the beautiful artwork. The fact that the music and artwork presentation is choreographed so that the art hits the beats in the music is great!
This video is so much better and more appealing than the Baby Einstein videos. I don't feel like I am watching a home video of toys filmed in my basement, like I do when I watch the other baby videos out there.
I am pleased that there is a video that both my daughter and I can enjoy. Introducing her to such beautiful artwork at a young age will be much more beneficial to her than watching a toy duck being pulled across the screen. I highly recommend this video!
Good, but not Baby Einstein.......2005-08-11
Don't get me wrong; this video is good! The music is great, the artwork is lovely, and parents can enjoy it even though it's been played 100 times. However, the artwork/music presentation is like a piece of choreography that was overworked to hit everything in the music and ended up being less-than-pleasing. And then the makers slacked on editing the scenes/sounds of children talking and doing art. Also, each peice of artwork shown includes print of the title and artist on the lower corner ON the artwork (not off to the side), interrupting the enjoyment of the art. The print is very small and hard to read -- really distracting. Since the artists and titles should be shown somewhere, why not put that information at the end? This video tries but isn't quite the standard of Baby VanGogh.
Equally enjoyable for me too!.......2004-06-19
I'm thrilled when our two year old goes to the DVD cabinet, pulls this out and says, "I want Star!" Of all the DVDs in our library for our two year old, I prefer this one head and shoulders above the rest. In fact, I enjoy it myself. Unlike other childrens' DVDs, this is wonderful even if it's just playing in the background while the children play with blocks in the next room. The classical soundtrack is refreshing first thing in the morning. And the artwork! I'm glad that my child is being introduced to the beauty of Van Gogh and Picasso at a young age. It's very well done and the artworks chosen are appropriate and enjoyable for children, even including one from "Goodnight Moon", one of her favorite bedtime books. The only flaw might be that this is thirty minutes long. My two year old doesn't object to that, but when this DVD is over I find myself playing it again. I wish there was a 60 or 90 minute version for grown ups!

Customer Reviews:
Must have for new loomers.......2007-08-11
So glad I purchased this DVD after reading reviews by others here. If you have been struggling with written instructions and don't have access to lessons at Michaels or Joann this item is for you.
Round Loom Knitting Instructional DVD.......2007-03-20
This was an excellent product. I had purchased the Knifty Knitter round looms and was somewhat confused about how to begin working with them. This DVD was clear and easy to follow. Being able to rewind and repeat the instructions or to pause was a real plus.
Knitting instructor, Beth Hill, is a gifted teacher. She thoroughly showed each step of the loom knitting process and addressed some of the errors you might be making during your first projects.
I am much more confident with my abilities to create fun and attractive knitted items. Following other loom patterns should be easier now that I have learned the basics.
I am hoping that Hills Brother Studios will film a DVD on Long Loom Knitting next. I would definately purchase something on that subject.
Thanks to the Hill Brothers Studios for this wonderful DVD.
Round Loom Knitting Visual Instruction.......2007-01-20
For those of you for which the book instruction is not enough. This is a GREAT instructional dvd. This is a wonderful way to learn to knit on a round loom. You can stop, start, and slow down the dvd. The pace was slow enough for you to follow along, but not too slow. The speech was clear and concise. You learn at YOUR own pace. Repeat something as many times as you need to get it right. No pressure! It was great! When I completed my first project, I was so proud! This is a great dvd and a wonderfully pleasant way to learn. I would also like to highly recommend the Knitting with Needles dvd by the same company. [...] has a sample clip of a lesson.
This Is Great........2006-12-12
I am so glad that I ordered this DVD. I recently bought a Knifty Knitter set from Herschners online store and a couple of books here on Amazon on how to use them. While the books aren't that confusing, this video cleared up a lot of questions. It was great to see the priojects done in first person view. They are very easy to follow. :) The DVD gave me a better understanding of what was being done on the loom. I can now follow the books prett easily. Thanks.
Description
2 DVD Set. Captured in High Definition.
In this unique 6-hour mind/body program, master-teacher Ramel Rones instructs essential movements and training exercises, with a focus on four popular Tai Chi Patterns: Ward Off, Rollback, Press, and Push (Peng, Lu, Ji, An). You will learn to develop and utilize the internal (Qi) energy that can be found within all Tai Chi movements. The energy circulation, mental visualizations, extensive breathing techniques, and physical skills taught in this program can be applied to all Tai Chi styles. The principles taught in Tai Chi Energy Patterns, whether practiced during your Tai Chi exercise or throughout your daily activities, will help you to feel a deeper mind/body connection, and boost your immune system for excellent health and vitality.
Practice of the internal energy exercises in this program will help you to develop and circulate abundant energy in the two main energy centers and throughout your entire body. Once your energetic circulation is strong and flowing smoothly, you may then utilize this energy to achieve your goals - to improve your health, or enhance your martial art abilities.
Energy exchange exercises for 2-person partner training are included, with comprehensive instruction of their health and martial art applications.
The much-anticipated follow up from teacher Ramel Rones to the #1 best-selling instructional program, Sunrise Tai Chi DVD.
Customer Reviews:
Vital instruction for beginners and advanced students.......2006-08-08
I looked forward to the release of this video, having been very satisfied with the previous effort by Ramel Rones in Sunrise Tai Chi. I remember being somewhat skeptical when I first reviewed Sunrise Tai Chi. I thought it would be something akin to the light versions of Taijiquan that seem to be the latest flavor of the day. It turned out to be a very well produced and thought out study of Taijiquan, with some excellent demonstrations of issuing power using the techniques and applications of Taijiquan.
The latest effort by Ramel Rones, with the addition of David Silver's always present high production standards as well as his input in the writing of this DVD, has resulted in an excellent training guide for beginners and advanced students. Truly, the best offering of knowledge, through teaching or other methods, should be adaptable by both beginners and advanced students.
If you are just beginning to learn Taijiquan. If you have been studying and practicing Taijiquan for many years. Then this DVD will provide very relevant and usable knowledge. The most advanced knowledge is always to be found close at hand, in the basics of the art.
The DVD comes with two disks.

Now when I look at this list of moves to practice, it looks like a lot of work. In reality, there is even more material than expected, as the DVD covers sitting and standing versions of the techniques, as well as various applications using postures from the form to demonstrate the use of these techniques. Every one one of these exercises come from Taijiquan movements. The four main energies, Ward Off, Rollback, Press and Push, are four of the original thirteen postures. These four postures also represent the cardinal directions. The other four directions, the diagonals, are represented by the moves Pull Down, Split, Elbow Stroke and Shoulder Stroke. Add the directions forward, backward, left, right and center and you have the original thirteen postures of Taijiquan.
From what I've read and understood, as well as noticed during practice of the styles, is that Yang style focuses on the four cardinal moves, Ward Off, Rollback, Press and Push, and Chen style focuses on the diagonals, Pull Down, Split, Elbow Stroke and Shoulder Stroke. Both styles use all of the thirteen, but their focus is on a different set of moves than the other.
The next Section is a Partner Demonstration, showing numerous techniques and methods for practicing the four energies of Yang Taijiquan. The use of large and small balls also comes into play, reminiscent of some of the teaching in Taiji Ball Qigong, a DVD by Dr. Yang, Jwing Ming. Ramel Rones, being one of Dr. Yang's senior students, has obviously grasped well the use of the Taiji Ball.
As this section uses two people, applications are more easily and freely demonstrated. The use of the four energies is demonstrated using the partners as they attempt techniques on various parts of the body. The energies or four postures are then demonstrated being used in combination with each other.
The two person drills are excellent and help to make the learning of Taijiquan more interactive and enjoyable.
The totality of DISK 1 was shot outdoors with great scenery and natural sounds. At one point I thought I had a criticism of this DVD. During the demonstration of the movements in the grassy fields, it seemed like beginning students would have a difficult time to determine if Ramel was stepping to his heel, or toe, or flat footed. The long grass in the field made it difficult at times to see clearly the foot positions of Ramel as he demonstrated the movements. As the placing of one's feet and the root of the practitioner is such a vital part of correct Taijiquan, I was thinking this could be a problem. However, on DISK 2, when the moves are very clearly taught and broken down into their components, the setting is indoors and the feet positions and placement can be clearly discerned.
Now we are still on DISK 1 of this two disk set. DISK 1 then offers a choice of three different workouts to follow along with:
STANDING WORKOUT 33 MINUTES
SITTING WORKOUT 29 MINUTES
PARTNER WORKOUT 39 MINUTES
Do not dismiss the sitting workout, it is an excellent tool for learning how to move the upper body separate than the lower body. Many students have trouble separating the movement of the waist from the hips. Sitting down while doing these routines greatly speeds up the learning process for differentiating hip and waist movement. Sometimes they do move together, but to achieve the whip effect in Taijiquan, a supple and separate waist movement is essential.
DISK 2
This disk contains the classroom instruction for the techniques and exercises taught in the previous disk. The moves are well taught and teach learning to take pressure while practicing the move, using the wall as a training tool and using partner drills to hone in on the timing and working with another one's energy. The classroom section is well taught, as Ramel has a wonderful energy which comes through in his teaching of the skills presented on this DVD.
After working on all of the drills presented on the first disk, Ramel then presents the entire series as one continuous workout. The moves are first done slowly, and then the speed is increased until the issuing of power becomes manifest. Ramel gives precise breathing and energy location direction while doing these movements. The use of walls during the movements is clearly presented in a convincing manner.
Ramel discusses how standing next to a wall while doing these techniques forces one to use the bows of the body to avoid having part of their anatomy being hindered in its movement by the pesky wall. When one uses bows in the arms, legs front of the trunk and rear of the trunk, movement becomes circular and spiral, allowing more movement in less space.
The final section on DISK 2 is a demonstration of martial applications for the moves. The wonderful part is that after demonstrating the techniques slowly, and then at fighting speed, the final demo at fighting speed usually involves Ramel taking the move a little further in intensity and adding some extra technique. For example, when using one technique that employed a head lock while standing, in the final fighting speed demo of the move Ramel followed the student as he fell and applied a tight head lock type of maneuver as they both fell to the ground.
I firmly believe that if a student is just beginning their study of Taijiquan, then study this DVD before learning the form. If you have been studying Taijiquan for years, then study this DVD for one heck of a refresher course. In reality, an experienced practitioner will learn much from this DVD.
Kudos to Mr. Rones and Mr. Silver, as well as their teacher, Dr. Yang, Jwing Ming.
Outstanding! An exceptional program........2006-07-25
This new program from Master Rones is even better than his first, Sunrise Tai Chi. Unlike other videos, which just shows a Tai Chi form for you to follow along with, in this program you receive detailed private instruction from the teacher in a way I have never experienced. Its really like having a one-on-one class with him, and the Tai Chi postures are broken down into much more detail than I've ever seen.
Disc one is an outdoor demonstration of dozens of stretches, warm ups, meditations, visualizations, qigong exercises, and stationary postures for strengthening the body and developing the energetic circulation. Then he moves into teaching individual Tai Chi postures broken into many routines which are practiced sitting or standing. Eventually, the postures are sequenced together into a beautifully flowing form that can be done slowly for health, or more quickly with power for martial arts.
The program emphasizes that anyone at any level of fitness or Tai Chi experience can practice along, and recommends practicing the exercises sitting in a chair. I can see how someone who is injured or infirm could gain great benefits from these routines, and maybe regain the strength to stand and continue practing.
One great aspect is how computer animation is used to show how and where the Qi energy circulates in the body.
Then, later on Disc one there is a complete Partner section, for two-person training. This really helps you to understand what the original purpose of each of the Tai Chi postures are, but again they can be practiced slowly for health, or more quickly for martial arts use.
Disc two is a classroom segment, in which he teaches each of the exercises in more detail, and shows variations for training.
I believe that this program can truly give someone a deep understanding of the art of Tai Chi Chuan, no matter what family style you practice, and that it offers powerful exercises for rejuvenation and exceptional wellness.
Bravo!

Good Stuff........2006-10-23
Marks presentation on the technical aspects of trading reveal 8 tools which are standard and the rest need more advanced trading systems like TC2000. If you've been around and know about RSI. Easy to understand for beginners or the experienced traders.......2006-02-22
This is a very productive seminar on learing the basics of technical analysis and learning the skills of chart reading. I would highly recomend this for any trader using a charting software program to trade with. I am glad I read Mark's book trade stocks online to become familiar with his trading style that is a rational approach to trading.
not woth the money.......2005-11-11
in order to use Larson's program , you need to use TC2005. Most of his seminar can be learned on any technical site such as Clearstation. Also, the CD advertises a method that works 90%
of the time-you must attend the seminar to discover how to set this up on TC2005.GO to TC2005 discussion board, do search for Larson, even the tc2005 people do not know how to combine TSV and RSi-this is the indicator Larson claims works 90% of the time.
This CD is merely an advertisement to buy more cds.I wasted $60.00. lynn
Excellent and Mark give you a clear understanding of charting.......2005-11-10
I have a much better appreciation for technical analysis and how to spot profitable potential in the charts on any time frame. Superb!!
some indicators are only available in TC2000.......2005-11-08
If you don't use TC2000, it wastes your time and money. Some key indicators he talks about are only available in TC2000.

On the run from the devine shadow & looking for a safe place. Stan the captain who is a coward,Zev love slave & half cluster lizard,790 robot head obsessed love of Zev who would like to get rid of Stan as he sees him in the way of his love for Zev which I saw as goofy & the only chacter I did not like. Kai dead assassin kills whoever Zev or Stan wants him to or to get them out of trouble there obsessions get the into. Finally Lexx the most powerful wheapon in the two known universes & a living bug ship who can destroy whole planets & does so at the whim of whoever is captain but needs organic matter to live. As good as the first in the series but expensive for an episode under two hours. Worth a look if you want to pay the price.

Patterns - PROVES GREED WAS GOOD BEFORE WALL STREET - AN AWESOME TRANSFER TOO!.......2006-11-05
This DVD proves that Greed Was Good in Big Business long before the Movie Wall Street's now infamous phrase "Greed Is Good!". Mr Ramsey of Ramsey Companies is a brutally driven man small in stature but gigantic in his business domain he rules like a tyrant! Flanked by his pocket shark an equally heartless cold fish head office manager named Ms Lannier whose job it is see things get done to Mr Ramseys liking. Ms Lannier is totally business like in ways ruthless and effcient also patrols the corporate executive halls of Ramsey Company making sure everyone is fully engaged in towing their part of the corporate load.
There's the rub, one member of Ramsey's executive staff one Mr. Briggs is definately NOT pulling what Ramsey feels is his part of the corporate load. Ramsey made sure something was done quietly to address the situation involving a faltering doddering unsatisfactory efforts of Mr Briggs. That nice Mr. Staples a from a factory out in the corn midwest somewheres a man who is an Industrial Engineer by profession and people person by instinct was hired to help failing Mr. Briggs supposedly as an assistant! But are things ever what they seem in business NOPE!
It is later revealed that Mr Staples is Mr. Briggs replacement and then the dye is cast. Mr Ramsey rides Briggs without mercy never letting up on beating down poor old Mr Briggs for even one moment. This is class corporate warfare where the object is to destroy your enemies with pen, ink and properly used words. Ramsey was ably helped by his hench-woman Ms lannier who spread thick the bloody chum of rumours that suggested that Briggs days at the Ramsey Company firm were numbered best in smaller single digits.
Ramsey the consumate corporate shark swim circles around old skool trusting kind Mr Briggs a throwback to the humane gentility of a bygone day. Ramsey an middle aged man himself embraced the new cut throat bigger is better and do anything to get bigger business mantality. To Ramsey Briggs was a fossil touting old world corporate virtues of loyal to workers when Ramsey wanted a hard cold bootom line oriented plan to grow the company andif workers had to suffer along the way so be it if their suffering makes the company bigger, stronger and hence more competitive.
Staples was the man with the plans Ramsey wanted to hear and Ramsey said so to Briggs at every turn. Ramsey really lays into Briggs with a gusto only a saddist could love, I mean this was mean so bad I think it would turn stomachs in todays borad rooms. Briggs body falling apart driven to hard drinking first thing in the morning and in secret at work and home is a broken man. Briggs however has a pair and as such will not let Ramswy just force him out like a used shoe. What happens next. Will Briggs finally get the message and leave. Will Mr Staples a genuinely nice man stay with Ramsey and company after seeing the perfectly evil things Ramsey will do to force Briggs out.
Man this is an awesome DVD and to find out all those things you mustbuy the DVD it is worth it and then some.
I will address the quality of the transfer before ending. the quality of this transfer is the best I have seen. I have seen the Kenetiscope version that was done for TV which is horrible, scratchy, too white uneven grainy beyond beleif and sound quality I would not wish on anyone. I saw a VHS version that was only barely passable. This DVD version is by FAR superior when compared to both the VHS and the Keniscope versions I have seen. This version of patterns is not perfect but it is so much better than everything else I have seen under this title that if I were you I'd grab this DVD of Patterns while it is available at Amazon.com like I did. I would not be a Happy Wolf Dude without a good qaulity DVD copy of patterns in my collection.
Excellent movie - a must see.......2006-09-25
I first heard of the story "Patterns" during a PBS documentary on the life and work of Rod Serling. The premise sounded quite interesting, so when I heard there was a film version of "Patterns" available on DVD, I just had to have it.
The Roan Group did an excellent job in putting together this DVD version of "Patterns." While the picture quality isn't perfect, it in no way distracts from the high quality of the acting, especially the roles played by Van Heflin, Ed Begley Sr. and Everett Sloane.
Unlike some films set in the corporate world, the characters in "Patterns" are not one-dimensional suits looking only to climb the corporate world. They're real people who are interesting to watch as they each live their lives and conduct their business. Even the secretaries are interesting.
Everett Sloane as Mr. Ramsey is by far, the best ruthless boss character I have ever seen in a movie, even more so than Lionel Barrymore as Mr. Potter in "It's A Wonderful Life." What makes Everett Sloane so convincing is that many people have likley had a work boss almost exactly like him. Someone who can't simply be described as greedy, but rather as hard-nosed and strict as a task master.
The ending of "Patterns" is fascinating, because it begs the question, if you were in the shoes of the Van Heflin character, what would you do?
The only reason I'm giving this DVD four stars instead of five, is that the Roan Group has added a few things in their extras which have practically nothing to do with the actual movie. Other than that, this DVD is excellent. Lou Lumenick and Lloyd Kaufman's commentaries about "Patterns" are first rate.
SEE THIS FILM IF YOU HAVEN'T!!! I promise, you won't be disappointed.
Patterns- the movie version.......2005-12-21
This film is a superb piece of work. The direction is solid and riveting, and the casting is excellent. Every actor contributes in a major way and adds to the tension and saddness as the story unfolds. Everett Sloane and Ed Begley are the foundation for this film, and I would say that this movie is probably Van Heflin's finest (as Fred Staples). I only wish the "live" television version (Kraft Television Theatre) was available, for Richard Kiley was the definitive Fred Staples. Since the television performance was "live," it added to the tension and intimacy of the actors, and the build-up from the beginning was electric.
Made Rod Serling A Name In Television.......2005-11-22
PATTERNS was Rod Serling's breakthrough in television, earning him a much deserved Emmy and industry recognition. This 1956 teleplay, directed by Fielder Cook, was so popular it was the first ever television show to be broadcast a second time.
PATTERNS is an uncompromising morality tale about the Machiavellian world of Big Business. Fred Staples (played by Van Heflin) is the new guy suddenly transferred from somewhere in Ohio to the company's New York headquarters. Staples soon discovers that the company head, Walter Ramsey (Everett Sloane), is intending to use him as a replacement for the kind-hearted-but-aging vice-president, William Briggs (Ed Begley). Ramsey places no value on the virtues of friendship or loyalty. The only things mattering to him is the company's production and profit. Staples sees things differently. Briggs had befriended him and he refuses to surrender his values to his ambition and go along with the cutthroat tactics of his boss. Unknown to Staples is that his wife, Nancy (Beatrice Straight), is not above compromising. Nancy Staples enjoys the prosperity and status of being the wife of a rising executive and is willing to work with the ruthless Ramsey to keep them.
The power to PATTERNS is Ramsey's fierce determination to edge out Briggs with Staples. It doesn't matter how obvious Staples makes it known he despises Ramsey and his worldview, even to the point of Staples giving him a warning and a threat that if he ever was to give in and take over from Briggs that his sole determination would be to thereafter edge him out, taking it all. Ramsey commends Staples hatred, for him such threats and desires confirm why he needs Staples for the company. Ramsey is a disciple for competitiveness unbound and will foster its spread and development even if he is to be one of its victims. Here we see what he truly depises in Briggs is the love he has for friends and family. Briggs' loyalty and duty to the memory of Ramsey's father and founder of this company stands for everything Ramsey finds maudlin and weak. For Ramsey, corrupting Staples is the same as corrupting his late father's cherished business ethics and firing Briggs is a symbol of replacing his father's world with his own.
This Roan Group edition features an interesting and informative introduction from New York Post film critic Lou Lumenick.
5 star film, 3 star reproduction, so I give it 4 star status.......2005-09-24
First saw 'Patterns' on one of the movie channels. I didn't know that Searling was involved at the time, though it came as no surprise. Others have given the storyline, so I'll not go there. But the Roan dvd needs to be discussed. All the extras are a waste of time. The 1960'd psychidelic presentation has little in common with the seriousness and social statement of 'Patterns." The quality of the film is a little better than fair (I'm spoiled by the stunning transfers of other films, so I'm being a bit hard on this transfer)but with that being said, if this is all that is available, buy it if you're a Searling fan or want this film on dvd format. I would compare this to '12 Angry Men' in its intensity and insight into human nature the the human condition. It goes over the edge (actingwise) at times, but that's a minor mention. 'Patterns' is one of the great classics of America's film heritage. If you like 'Twilight Zone' you will be happy with this purchase.

Surely THE BEST - Deserves 10 Stars !.......2007-08-08
Hi Friends,
I hope everything is well !
This is Kush from India. Just wanted to share my honest thoughts and experiences with Desi Serna's (Of Guitar-Music-Theory.com) DVDs(both PENTATONIC AND CAGED DVDs), so that anyone considering/wishing to purchase these DVDs will get an idea / guidance.
Firstly, I'd like to say that before buying Desi Serna's materials, I used to collect and purchase a lot of Guitar Instruction Books and DVDs - I almost own more than a 100 Books and DVDs on Guitar Instruction - and I honestly & truly say that Desi Serna's materials are truly THE BEST I've seen so far. (IMHO) - Truly no butterings intended to anyone ! I have really stopped buying and collecting all other Guitar materials after studying from these DVDs.
Actually, I own ALL the products of Desi Serna and I really cant choose the best out of them - each one is a REAL MASTERPIECE and will surely give a huge advantage to the student studying from them (again IMHO)
I'm writing this review as a common review for both the DVDs (CAGED and PENTATONIC)
Firstly I'd like to speak about the teaching Style on these DVDs - I own more than 60 DVDs on Guitar Instruction, and I can easily say that these DVDs have the BEST TEACHING, without any doubt. Desi Serna's playing is really inspiring and his way of teaching is far superior than others - infact I truly envy the students who are fortunate enough to learn from him in private classes... His approach is really so FRIENDLY and CLEAR, one really feels like learning from a Friend or a Brother.
If I may speak personally here, I have taken Desi Serna as my Guitar Idol and he's truly my inspiration. I have an aim in life - to becoming a good Guitar teacher and I feel that if I can become even 10% of Desi Serna, as a teacher - I would consider my Life and Career a success !
Ok, sorry if I'm boring you guys, I think I should cut it a little short (though I could write more and more about these DVDs) - so some of the other things that really make these DVDs different are -
1. REAL SONG EXAMPLES (The best Feature (IMHO), seen very-very rarely in Instruction Products)
2. GREAT TEACHING STYLE (Truly the best, I've seen so far)
3. Huge amount of Topics and knowledge covered - I learnt so much from these DVDs, that finally I have got the confidence in my self and my playing ! After learning from these DVDs, I have finally started teaching Guitar ( was reluctant for about 6 - 7 months !!!)
4. GREAT VIDEO and AUDIO Quality (I'd give it much more than 10 out of a 10 !!!)
5. Each covers the subject THOROUGHLY - (Honestly, I have not been able to find so much of QUALITY Instruction anywhere else)
I think I can go on and on....
Anyways, I honestly wish that my Review woud give you a basic idea of what these DVDs are about and their advantages over others. I can easily say that these are REALLY THE BEST Educational DVDs I've ever bought and they are MUCH-MUCH more worthy than what they are being charged for - I believe that these DVDs would be as successful as they are now, even if they were priced more ! I would DEFINITELY buy them even if they were Priced more than the current Price - These DVDs are a REAL VALUE FOR MONEY and A MUST FOR ANY GUITAR STUDENT (I feel that they are almost a necessity for any serious Guitar Student / Player)
One of the most important things I wanted to mention (but forgot to mention earlier) is that THE CUSTOMER SERVICE is SURELY THE BEST ON EARTH (I wish i could bold this sentence) - I truly mean this and I'm sure anybody who has ever bought anything from Desi Serna, Guitar-Music-Theory.com will easily agree. Desi Serna, is one of the kindest Teachers
I've ever contacted and he really CARES for his customers and students.
He really helped me with all my doubts and questions and replied to all my emails - If I may speak personally again, I consider myself gifted and blessed to have learnt from his materials.
Another GREAT THING about Desi Serna is the free Videos and Lessons that he sends you regularly thru email - Who does that these Days ? You hardly get what you pay for, but this is not the case here - YOU REALLY GET MUCH MORE THAN WHAT YOU PAY FOR - Just try these DVDS, I'm sure you will agree ! (again IMHO)
Anyways then, I sincerely and truly recommend Desi Serna's products to every serious Guitar student. Just have a look at the points I've mentioned above and decide for yourself... I'm sure you would easily agree with all of the above, once you study from these materials.
Another thing which I feel is very important to say here is - Please note that the above review / message is my own and honest thoughts about Desi serna's materials (which I truly love and I'm proud to say). Please also note that I dont intend to Butter-Up or Promote anybody's products (Why would I, I'm not even paid for this...lol (just kidding..)
I also understand the value of Money and I believe that anybody's money, is after all hard earned/saved money - i really wouldnt like to mis-guide anybody or encourage anybody to waste money on un-imporatnt things - I have done a lot on other materials. Considering all this, I honestly say that one can confidently invest in Desi Serna's DVDs and books - if you want GREAT EDUCATION, VALUE FOR MONEY etc all in a single package - YOU WILL GET IT and I'm sure you will agree...
Ok then, I hope all this helps - I also want to say that I'm sorry if I sound very excited or kiddish in this Review or if I've said anything wrong/ inappropriate - infact, I AM EXCITED about these DVDs and I'm grateful for them !
Thanks for Reading the review - I wish everybody all the best in their Musical careers and education !
Regards and Care
Kush (India)

Too easy!.......2007-06-25
I've been playing for about 10 years now... mostly electric...metal, blues, hard rock, etc. Jamming to power chords and playing blues rhythm riffs had become easy and I wanted to learn how to use the whole neck. I knew a blues scale in the key of Em so I always slid that chord shape up and down the neck to where it fit the key I was playing in, but the only other place I could use that fingering pattern was if I brought it up an octave. My lead work was obviously in a rutt. I've always heard the guitar Greats preach about learning the pentatonic scale, but I was kind of intimidated about learning it. I'm kicking myself now for not persuing it years ago.
Today I threw in the first DVD. The patterns were so easy to learn. After mastering them all, covering the whole neck, which took about an hour, I easily learned how to shift the pattern positions to work with different keys.
Needless to say, I threw in a favorite CD, figured out the key they played in and was shocked at how much I'd learned. It was like new phrases and different string bends that I didn't even know existed just became unlocked.
I didn't sound like SRV, but I can tell my playing style has already changed.
Looking forward to viewing the rest of Disc 1 as well Disc 2.
6 Stars!!!
Pentatonic Scale made easy.......2007-04-06
Another Great job by Desi Serna. Learnig the Pentatonic Scale couldn't have been easier. I can't believe it's actually me playing when I jam over chord progressions. My wife and kids can't believe it either. (lol) This is a lot of fun... The extra stuff on the DVD's are great as well. This is a must have if your a "strummer" and want to learn awesome leads, riffs and fills in no time. And, it will all make sense to you. You will know exactly what you are playing and why. It's just great. Thanks Desi!!
Good Product.......2007-02-16
It's a good DVD. Format is done well and you can change to different topics. IE You don't have to fast forward or rewind through the whole thing.
Covers everything it says and I'd say it's about four or more lessons, with an actual guitar teacher, worth of material. Being many instructors charge anywhere from 20, 30, or more bucks per hour this is well worth the money.
Excellent information.......2007-02-12
I'm pleased with the content of this DVD. From its pentatonic patterns to its songs and every aspect of this valueable information that helps a guitar player to play better. This DVD goes well with Desi Serna's book: Fretboard Theory. Another "must have" for the serious guitarist.
