Don't look to Cook for satirical insights on politics, the war, or even pop culture. His world view is much narrower. In Vicious Circle he expounds on the pleasures and traps of lying, male crying, being sneezed on, his father's robe, bad relationships, and sundry sexual matters that cannot be printed here. Cook takes awhile to get where he's going, but his digressions are often funnier than the pay offs. He puts the brakes on one story during which he mimes driving a car to remark that if he were actually driving this way, he would be all over the road. During other bits, he parses the different spray modes on Windex, and takes the phrase "being cheated on" literally. And it takes some kind of associative genius to compare a certain female body part to a high school stage theatre curtain. The less than well received Employee of the Month aside, Cook is currently king of the comedy hill. Vicious Circle offers a time capsule look at these heady good times for the great Dane. As for where he goes from here, the good news is that Steve Martin once filled arenas like this. The bad news: So did Andrew Dice Clay. --Donald Liebenson

The question facing any viewer of the Japanese CG feature Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is: do you have to know the games on which it's based in order to understand the film? And the answer is: it certainly helps. But even complete novices (i.e., most parents) in the Final Fantasy world will find some entertainment in its wealth of fantasy-based action, and the animation never fails to astonish. Picking up two years after an epic battle between the forces of good (represented by brooding soldier Cloud) and evil (Cloud's former general, Sephiroth), FFVII opens in the devastated city of Midgard, whose youthful occupants suffer from a ghastly disease known as Geostigma. A trio of brothers arrives with what appears to be a cure for the plague, but their gesture conceals a more sinister purpose: to revive Sephiroth and bring about the end of the world. Cloud and his companions must once again rise to the occasion to stop the siblings and the revived Sephiroth from unleashing total destruction. Complex and self-referential to the point of occasional incomprehension, Final Fantasy VII will definitely be most appreciated by fans of the game series, but if others can look past the numbing dialogue and frenetic action (which is a bit too intense for very young children), the film offers a carefree and action-packed viewing experience. The two-disc set contains the original Japanese language version of the film as well as an English-dubbed edition (Rachel Leigh Cook and Christy Carlson Romano, among others, provide the vocal talent) and a version edited for the Venice Film Festival. A 30-minute featurette that recaps the Final Fantasy story up to VII, as well as a making-of documentary, deleted scenes, and promotions for future Final Fantasy VII games and products round out the extras. --Paul Gaita

Thank goodness for this!.......2007-08-11
Anything to fulfill the constant craving for all things Final Fantasy (especially VII) is always welcome. A fantastic movie in all senses. Recommended to movie lovers and video game lovers alike.
FF lovers must see it.......2007-08-10
This is a movie targeted at FF7 lovers. You will see your favorite heroes come back from retirement and battle an old evil.
The storytelling is not particularly elaborated, and casual fans might get completely lost on the plot. It, however, has some 5 minute, fast-track, mind-refresher video of the important events in the original FF7 game.
A good package.......2007-08-02
This is the latest special limited edition released in the US. Beautifully crafted, designed and packed as a collector's box-set. There are loads of extras in these 2 DVDs set. Scripts, books and exclusive postcards available only for this edition. The recording is in high-defination resolution. A must for all Final Fantasy and CG Animation fans. A 'value-for-money' package.

This B movie with noble aspirations is the work of a gifted filmmaker whose storytelling falls short of his considerable stylistic flair. While addressing crises of faith in the framework of an alien-invasion thriller, M. Night Shyamalan (in his follow-up to The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable) favors atmospheric tension over explanatory plotting. He injects subtle humor into expertly spooky scenes, but the story suffers from too many lapses in logic. The film's faults are greatly compensated by the performance of Mel Gibson as a widower whose own crisis of faith coincides with the appearance of mysterious crop circles in his Pennsylvania cornfield... and hundreds of UFOs around the globe. With his brother (Joaquin Phoenix) and two young children (Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin), the lapsed minister perceives this phenomenal occurrence as a series of signs and portents, while Shyamalan pursues a spookfest with War of the Worlds overtones. It's effective to a point, but vaguely hollow at its core. --Jeff Shannon
Description
From M. Night Shyamalan, the writer/director of THE SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE, comes the story of the Hess family in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, who wake up one morning to find a 500-foot crop circle in their backyard. Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his family are told extraterrestrials are responsible for the sign in their field. They watch, with growing dread, the news of crop circles being found all over the world. SIGNS is the emotional story of one family on one farm as they encounter the terrifying last moments of life as the world is being invaded. "It's easy for a filmmaker to blow up the world -- but what Shyamalan does is much riskier. He tries to blow our minds. I was engaged by every inch of SIGNS." - Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper.

THE WAY TO TELL THE WORLD THAT THEY'RE OUT THERE!!.......2007-09-02
i loved this movie, the whole deal. peaceful community, normal family, then bam, a huge crop circle right on thier farm. what is it? where did it come from? who made it? not human, they're watching, and they're coming, but not in peace. this movies got great suspense, good visual, and the aliens look crazy freaky. every time i watch it it still gets me. mostly because all this about crop circles is for real, it's based on real life events. so then what's going to happen in the future. who knows? mel gibson is a great actor no doubt and in this film it shows, as with joaquin phoenix great actor as well. love him. once again m. night shyamalan knows how to do it. he tries to bring more than others to the table through his films and he always succeeds. great job.
Great movie and some good extra features!.......2007-08-04
The movie was great. When I got a gift card for Christmas one year I knew this was the DVD I wanted to buy. It's one of M Night Shyamalan's best movies (I even think it was better than Sixth Sense).
The DVD has an neat bonus footage on it - like a movie made by MNS when he was a kid. It's great to see his vision as a child and how far he has grown. The DVD also has a nice story board to scene feature for certain parts of the movie. It's kinda neat to see how the finished product stacked up against the story boards.
However with a movie with this much humor I would have loved to seen some bloopers or outtakes. But then again I say that about every movie.
My favorite M. Night Shyamalan film........2007-07-31
I love thrillers, sci-fi, and spiritual/moral dilemma films and who would think that one film would have all that I grave.
Amazon gives a good snynopsis of the story, so no need to repeat it here, but I greatly disagree with their notion that this film is somewhat hollow or empty which I find ironic after they mention all this film is about and the crisis of faith that comes to a head with Mel Gibson's fallen minister character. This film is extremely well-written, outstandingly acted by all familiar actors who disappear into their roles, and effectively directed by Shyamalan who also wrote the film. James Newton Howard, ER and The Sixth Sense, created the memorable and haunting score which greatly added to the atmosphere of the film. In addition, the special effects and make-up team, guided by Shyamalan's vision and direction, created chills and believability without massive Spielberg-style (War of the Worlds) treatment which would have been only a distraction in this film.
My only real criticism is that this film has Shyamalan's trademark approach. That means that it's all rather contrived and he hammers us at the end for not seeing the ending coming (yet again, a la The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable). However, to pick on this element of his directorial/writing style is like picking on Hitchcock's use of suspense in his classic films.
This film has great repeat value even after knowing how the "signs" all add up. This is one of my absolute favorite films of all time. You may not enjoy it as much as I did, but I sincerely believe that most will enjoy this film for one reason or another.
Are you the type who sees signs?.......2007-06-18
Signs has much more to offer than Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds." In this reality, the world is populated with numerous signs seemingly hidden in plain sight.
Director M. Night Shyamalan divides people into two camps: The type who believes in miracles, sees signs; and those who think we just get lucky.
Shyamalan's carefully crafted universe has creatures that must resort to warring with other planets to survive... and there is us. Shyamalan's war pits technologically superior creatures against an unsuspecting world, and a shattered world occupied by a clergyman who questions his faith following the death of his wife. Shyamalan goes further than the Sixth Sense, the bone-chilling tale of a young boy ("I see dead people") haunted by ghosts who appear regularly in his life to enlist his help. In Signs, Shyamalan declares not only can we help the dead, the dead also help us.
Another way of putting it: There are no coincidences. From the son's asthma and the daughter's dreams to the brother's baseball prowess and the tragic instance in which a veterinarian's momentary lapse at the wheel claims a life. The plot is a masterpiece in misdirection. Signs opens to an aerial view of crop circles. More signs of the impending invasion appear as the story moves forward. But these are not the signs that we should be looking at. In the last reel, the dying wife who has but a moment to tell seems to be rambling. But it turns out, she was staring into the future, not her husband's eyes.
This movie says we are much more than we seem.
Mel Gibson's character, the grieving Rev. Graham Hess finds himself suddenly struggling to make sense of the many odd happenings at his farm. He already has isolated himself following his wife's death. Of course, his guard is up. But he finds himself awkwardly grasping to cling to his understanding of the new reality. He can dismiss the crop circles in his fields as mischief by pranksters. But, he soon can't deny the mounting evidence and nocturnal visits from unseen and unseeable intruders. Edgy, provocative and well-paced, Signs is a multilayered and intricately woven piece to try and digest in an afternoon at the theater.
I was first struck by Shyamalan's study of how his characters cope with the increasingly apparent threat. The no-nonsense son Morgan immediately seeks out a book and a curious and chilling element to this story, a baby monitor. The brother Merrill who has taken a room over the garage to help the family turns to the TV. The youngest, the girl who must be about kindergarten age, believes she is dreaming. It is the father, Graham, who is not coping well living in denial. But who can blame him?
"There is no one out there to help us. We're all alone," our resigned and frockless clergyman declares.
The final scenes are well-constructed to induce fear. Shyamalan masterfully pulls all the pieces together at the end. If you were impressed by Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, you will enjoy this offering... again and again.
An excellent film from theSci-Fi genre.......2007-06-13
This is one of those films that my wife dragged me kicking and screaming to see in the theater, but as has often been the case over our thirty-six year marriage, it turned out to be one that I would end up adding to my collection.
Normally, Science-Fiction films either bore me greatly, or scare me out of my wits, but this story is quite different. Not only is this a well-made, tense and exciting story of an attempted alien invasion of Earth, but it is also a very touching and actually inspirational story. Mel Gibson plays a former minister who totally lost his faith as the result of his wife's tragic death, but eventually finds it once again as a result of an exciting encounter with aliens. Beginning with the appearance of "crop circles" in his corn field, then in other locales around the world, followed soon by other strange "signs," Gibson finds himself trapped by the aliens in his home, with his two small children and his younger brother, played well by Joaquin Phoenix.
If you have not seen the film, do so. If you have not added it to your collection, do so. The climax alone is worth the purchase price, and it is surely a film you can watch with your children.

The television movie Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society (2006) continues the adventures of the cast of Stand Alone Complex, the TV series based on Mamoru Oshii's watershed feature. It's been two years since Major Kusanagi left Public Security Section 9 and struck out on her own. Batou pursues only investigations that interest him. Togusa is in charge of the Section, largely by default. All three characters, plus Chief Aramaki and the Tachikoma robots, join in the investigation of a string of suicides by agents of a foreign general. The trail leads them to a terrorist plot involving micro-machines created to release a deadly virus, and to the master-hacker known as the Puppeteer. The depiction of a corrupt politician using resources earmarked for the care of an aging population for his own ends reflects recent scandals in Japan. But Solid State Society feels derivative. The plot borrows heavily from the "Laughing Man" storyline, and the general lack of inspiration is evident in the failure to resolve the mystery satisfactorily.
The Limited Edition includes a music CD and a second DVD of extras, among them notes on designing the futuristic vehicles in the film, and an interview with Mitsuhisa Ishikawa of Production I.G., all packaged in a metal box. (Rated 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery) --Charles Solomon

Ghost In The Shell Is So Overrated.......2007-09-05
I keep hearing that GITS is one of the best, deepest, and most thought provoking animes of all time, and everytime I hear it, I keep wondering why.
The series does have its good points, but I've seen both this movie and the "2nd Gig" and they both feel like something is missing.
Just what makes GITS so appealing anyway? Is it good as a military series? Is it he Action? The characters? The themes and philosophical points behind it?
If that's what you're looking for, you should check out Full Metal Panic, especially The Second Raid; It will SMOKE Ghost in the Shell in all the aspects mentioned above, but most notably in the "characters" department -the characters from Full Metal Panic actually have charisma.
People keep talking about the depth and philosophical meaning behind Ghost in the Shell, but what does Solid State Society have to offer in these aspects? Mainly, it brings up the role that the elderly play in society, as well as the problem of child abuse...Okay.
Sounds more like political and social than philosophical.
That is precisely where I think Ghost in the Shell fails: It's supposed to be a military anime, but it doesn't feel like one.
Top notch!.......2007-08-28
I have always been a fan of Ghost in a shell since the very first movie. Solid State Society is an awesome movie, I think one of the best so far. The writing is good, follows the series very well. I loved the music. And if you get the limited edition version you get the sound track on CD, and an extras DVD, plus the main movie DVD. If you are a fan of the series this is a must have. I keep watching it over and over.
This is not a movie for young childern. It is violent, dramatic, and fast paced.
I think all anime fans would like it. As a fan I personally recomened it!
New Season perhaps....???.......2007-08-23
For any "Ghost in the Shell" fan, this is a must see, period. It really is pretty good. I don't like people giving things away so I won't either. Now I know it has a movie time frame already but I thought they could have gone longer even still... Not to say the ending seemed rushed but it downgraded the movie for me from 5 stars to 4. It Certainly wasn't the last "Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig" DVD(s). Those had more of a "Lord of the Rings" type of time frame/feel since the episodes were all interconnected. Also it seemed depressing to think, this was or could be the last Ghost in the Shell to come out... Hopefully not. They did set it up for another season/movie if they want to but no word from Japan as of yet that I know of... The DVD extras explain how they made the movie and how for the first time ever a major automobile manufacturer (Nissan/Infiniti) allowed prototypes to be put into an anime. That in turn created a large buzz in Japan when the movie came out so Nissan could show off the cars in real life. Being the Nissan Sport Concept & Infiniti Kuraza (2006).
a real Stand Alone Complex.......2007-08-03
This is the 3rd movie in the popular Japanese Anime serries, but it is far more like the 2 seasons of TV shows than the more artistic movies that came first, and that actually works. While not as artistically amazing as the movies, it's more down to earth and the plot is more comprehensible than the movies.
This is set in the mid 2030's when cyberware is commonly installed in people-imagine having your cell phone and i-pod built into you, and serious hard cases can replace limbs or even entire bodies. The heros are an elite counter terrorism squad, Public Security, Section 9.
Set 2 years after the end of the 2nd season of the TV show, Major Motoko Kusanagi has left the team and since Batou is in a funk, command falls to Togasa. The one time rookie is now the team's field commander and doing a credible job but as he starts to investigate a serries of professional hard cases committing suicide he starts to feel out of his depth.
The Major is floating around on the periphery of the case and suspicion starts to point in her direction. This forces the team to wonder is their trusted, one time leader, now on the other side?
The social commentary and resolution is particularly Japanese but still highly enjoyable. If you love the TV Shows, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, this is well worth the cost. If you like good anime but haven't had a chance to see GitS, then this is a great place to start. Sure it's set after the stuff already out there but it's a complete story and the serries don't over lap, so this truly is a STAND ALONE COMPLEX.
If you love the G.I.T. mangas and animes, or good animated sci-fi, this is for you..........2007-07-31
Ghost in The Shell - Solid State Society, is the latest production based on the "Ghost in the Shell" franchise, created by Masamune Shirow originally published as a manga by Kodansha (in Japan) and Dark Horse Comics in the U.S. It is available in two editions, the standard one and the "Limited Edition", targeted at collectiors and fans of the series.
For those of you that are not familiar with the franchise, it is set on a not-so-far future where mankind has embraced technologies to enhance the human beings in body and mind. Taking some characteristics from the "cyberpunk" genre of sci-fi, the series deal with the social repercursions of an "information era", the status-quo of prosthetics and other physical enhancements and, in esence, with the concepts and philosophies of existence, self-awareness, and the true meaning of the "human being" concept in a context where the so called cyborgs, normally cybernitically enhanced human brains in artificial bodies exist too. These are one of the many reasons of why the Ghost in the Shell series are considered one of the most influential works for the sci-fi genre and the anime/manga context.
However, each incarnation of the Ghost in the Shell franchise, has it's own story arch and approach. For example, the manga works are interesting but messy. The characters sometimes are deep, or sometimes are really light-hearted. Understanding them requires having some background of the cyberpunk theme (William Gibson, Bruce Sterling), some knowledge of the manga-as-a-comic-book concept (so you don't get lost within the strips), reading the many footnotes the author includes on them, and backreading. Solid State Society for instance, continues the plot and concepts showed in the anime series (more about it in a moment).
The anime feature movies (Ghost in the shell, Ghost in the shell II: Innocence) are based on the manga, however, they treat the themes on the manga in a totally cinematic and deep way, developing the characters far beyond the manga in some aspects and presenting the viewer with a full overview of the concept and main philosophy.
For instance, the anime series, Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex, take some aspects from the manga, but it's main focus is to deal with how the characters interact with their world, and the existential and social problems this future has for humanity. In this case, Solid State Society, continues the concept and plot established by this series, having little to do with the movies or manga. Consider it as an "long-play special episode" that fits after the end of the second season of Stand Alone Complex.
So, for those new to the series, I recommend you to get a glimpse of the other options to enter the world of Ghost in The Shell and its many differences, before buying it. Or get the Stand Alone Complex Season 1 and Season 2 for the matter. Otherwise, come on in!
Solid State Society, is a solid, complex, movie that doesn't waste its 120 minutes of running length. The plot is well constructed and the twists that compose it, far beyond of making it boring or difficult to understand, guide the viewer easily from start to finish. It flwalessly continues the events in Stand Alone Complex season 2, and also opens a new saga in the series. Character visual design and overall graphic presentation are quite polished, mixing CG 2D and 3D images flwalessly and in a natural way for the viewer. Full 16:9 aspect ratio makes Solid State Society a nice visual experience on SD televisions and displays and also on HD with the use of a DVD Player or A/V Receiver with an integrated upscaler. The use witihin the movie of "virtual" lens, and depth-of-view also make for a nice real-life approach to express something in animation instead of live-action. Voice dubbing in japanese and english is quite well done, in fact, I really suggest having a first view in english (if you're somewhat new to the series) then watching it in japanese with subtitles. 5.1 surround (Dolby) sound is supported on both languages and overall sound mixing is of high quality, considering the problems that lip-syncing usually has. The musical score, made by Yoko Kano, a famous japanese musician and composer, deepens the dark enviroment of the movie itself and enhances the plot and characters. Synthethisers, beats and woman-sung chorus, mixed with powerful sound effects also provide a great sound experience. Overall it's a great production worth of watching not just once, but many times.
The Limited Edition contains the movie disc, an extras disc with interviews, designs, and other bonus content, and a original soundtrack CD by Yoko Kano, all in a metal-like jewel box. However, I've rated it 4 stars since the soundtrack does not contains a printed playlist nor any additional info. Also it doesn't come with other value-adding bonus (like postcards, some kind of book, plastic figures...) aside from the noted above. For the hardcore fans and collectors I suggest you to wait for a re-edition or similar of it.
Overall, the movie itself is a must for the fans of the series. It is also a must for sci-fi lovers or anime lovers, but make sure you get Stand Alone Complex (S1 and S2) at least first (also I suggest that to those who have just watched the two first movies or read the manga only).

No one but madcap stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard can spin comic gold out of papal history, monkeys with guns, Jesus preaching to the dinosaurs, and cafeteria food on the Death Star. Circle, taken from his stand-up tour in 2000, doesn't have the astonishingly seamless free-associative flow of Glorious or Dress to Kill, his previous specials--which is to say, he's only intermittently brilliant, instead of supernaturally nonstop brilliant. We'll take what we can get, because Izzard can slip in surprisingly stinging commentary about international politics and religion, yet his impish smile suggests that he's only pointing out the obvious. He tosses out an idea and then plays with it like a cat plays with a mouse, flipping it around, teasing it out, pouncing, and then letting it go, only to sneak back up on it just when you'd forgetten it was there. Cheeky, subversive, and very, very funny. --Bret Fetzer

Not up to Izzard standards.......2007-06-12
We are huge Eddie Izzard fans, have all his cd's and dvd's of concerts, have seen him live twice, love The Riches, but..... This dvd concert is not up to his usual genius. It is funny in parts but he seems disinterested, distracted and almost annoyed with the show. So was I.
Izzard Rocks.......2007-04-21
Eddie Izzard has to be just about the best comic around. My upper division English teacher in college showed us some of "Dress to Kill," and the class was cracking up. I watch everything of his I can get my hands on.
izzard is the wizzard! .......2007-03-27
Eddie Izzard is the best comedian of this age, no doubt.
Is he smart? Yeah! Does he make you laugh for hours? Yeah!
The point is his intellectual capacity and quality makes his show even more interesting. Comedians are observes I belive, they observe things. Think of one and only Jerry Seinfeld. He is funny, he has lots of things to say about anything. So does Eddie. But Eddie loves to talk about politics, history, war, humanity etc. He sure observes moreover he reads, he writes, he questions, he searhes. Well, it's not a piece of cake make jokes about latin empire! This is what I like most about him. He is cultivated. You may get a quick survey to history and politcs; little details about daily life in Eddie style of comments and gestures.
The show "Circle" has cultivated smart funny stories.
You can come across with James Mason, Sean Connery, Jesus, The English and of course Hitler.
He sure gives more than you want....with a fantastic make up! :)
Eddie Izzard - Circle.......2007-01-15
Hilarious. Eddie Izzard is a very clever, intelligent comedian. Not a lot of cursing.
Very nice, but not quite up to the standards he set for himself..........2006-11-03
Eddie Izzard is my favorite comedian by far and just about everything out of the mans mouth gets at least a chuckle from me. Though if you are new to Izzard I reccomend buying any of his other DvD's first, as this dosn't quite live up to his other preformances (Though I have not seen Unrepetable or Sexie yet so I can't say anything about them). That said, if you own all the other Eddie DvD's or simply must hear the Star Wars bit this is still a very fine performance that got quite a few laughs out of me.

Based on a popular PS2 game, the broadcast series Xenosaga (2005) is set in the far future, 4,000 years after humanity abandoned Earth. Mankind is locked in a deadly struggle with the alien Gnosis over the possession of the mysterious monolith, the Zohar. Shion Uzuki runs a training program for anti-Gnosis fighters, whose ultimate weapon is KOS-MOS, a super-mecha that takes the form of a voluptuous woman. When the Gnosis attack the Federation fleet, KOS-MOS helps Shion and her friends escape. The mecha forces the wild 'n' crazy crew of a rogue salvage ship to pick up the refugees. At this point, the already tangled story simply falls apart. Characters appear and disappear as they hatch plots and counterplots involving ships, foundations, governments, secret research, military programs, and, of course, the Zohar. Xenosaga might make sense to fans of the game, but non-players will find themselves lost in a tangle of elements borrowed from Evangelion, Gundam, Outlaw Star, et al. Support your local Realians.......2007-09-01
Since I ordered this from an Amazon reseller, the anime corner store, it arrived before the release date that's advertised, hence this early review. Amazon shows it available as a pre-order. On the front cover it reads "Based on the bestselling video game". Well, from my viewing experience with this great looking dvd, it doesn't matter, to me anyway, what this was based on. I don't know if this has a manga (comic) version, maybe I should check it out, but I'm not at that "gotta have everything to do with this title' point. Yet. And I've never even heard of the game, but...
This animated version of Xenosaga is just fine as it is. My first look at female Chief Uzuki within the encephalon (brain) dive had me saying, alright, it looks like they had some money to spend on this one. Xenosaga, like a few of the other series I've started buying this year (Innocent Venus, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Melancholoy of...), has that level of quality that says give the series a chance and continue with the next and remaining volumes as they're released.
The universe of Xenosaga is set far into the future, humans have left their homeland, intergalactic space travel and engineered life forms are commonplace. The technology in this future may have evolved to a high degree, but it doesn't seem as if our human behavior has accomplished even a fraction of the same. From the Greek, "Xeno" or foreigner, we have Xenophobia. This basic fear and dislike of those we aren't familiar with serves as one of the themes presented as Lt. Virgil openly expresses his disdain for the Realians - engineered human products that come in two flavors, Observer or Combat (the two I know of based on this 1st vol). They've been mass produced for the benefit of humans, and as such, they seem to be considered as somewhat expendable as the humans take on the Gnosis.
To keep this short, again with the Greek, the character KOS-MOS, sounds like cosmos, looks every bit the name sake. She is cooler than everyone else, kicks major butt, and is logical to a fault. I'm curious to see how her role plays out. This volume includes: Episodes 1 thru 4, in standard tv format (4:3), clean open & closing animation sequences, six ADV previews (Innocent Venus, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, Pumpkin Scissors, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie 4, Best Student Council & Utawarerumono - try saying that last one five times really fast :).

Let's Teach Our Children Stereotypes.......2007-09-03
As a 4th generation Asian-American, I was extremely disappointed with this video! The Aristocats clip includes a horrendously derogatory stereotype in the "Siamese" cat. My children, to my horror, laughed and laughed when the character began singing in Charlie Chan speak. I was thrown back to my own youth when cruel children would pull back their eyelids and tease me with "Ching Chong Chinaman!" I expected more from Disney--do some editing!!!
my daughter gets bored.......2007-03-07
my daughter doesn't really like this one - she gets bored
Great fun!.......2007-01-20
My daughter adores this DVD. It has so many cute songs on it and she just dances and signs the whole time it is on. Very entertaining! A+++
Lion King sing along.......2006-02-01
It was wonderfully entertaining for my 3 year old and 18 month old. They can't read but they sang their hearts out anyway.
Circle Of Life- Extended.......2005-08-11
This Disney DVD Sing Along Songs is an extended version of the VHS tape that cuts out the original Jiminy Cricket intros. For a newer generation of kids it gets straight to it. The new additions are Jungle Rhythm, Hakuna Matata, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Yummy Yummy Yummy, W-I-L-D. I think it also cuts out Following The Leader that featured on the VHS edition.
Recommended for Lion King fans.

Classical Pilates Technique.......2007-08-26
Excellent DVD. I gave this one 5 stars. The Pilates technique is well implemented in this DVD. This DVD starts with the basic technique that is important to people who are starting out. It demonstrates perfect form, which is important when learning the technique. The intermediate has more exercises that are a little more advanced for people who just want a good workout. The season pro will love the advanced, and the super advanced reformer workout. This is a tough workout, and not for someone who does not have enough pilates background. Also the wonderful thing about this series is that it is demonstrated in real time. When the exercise is presented, it shows the name and the number of repetitions on the screen. This makes each exercise easy to understand. You will not be disappointed.
Not what I was hoping for.......2007-06-27
If you are used to the typical work out type video this is not for you. It's hard to explain - there is no real workout, it is one or two people demonstrating each move with a narrator. At the top of the screen they tell you how many reps to do. It goes way too fast to work out with the DVD, it is more educational to learn the moves and then do them on your own. If you already know the moves and form as I do, this will not give you a good workout.
Pilates DVD.......2007-05-17
Great DVD if you are looking to sharpen up your technique or learn new moves. It is very no frills with no music or fancy images. I would recommend for those intermediate level and above, it would be too easy to not do moves correctly if you were a beginner. Using the ring in almost all moves really changes the workout and can make even the most advanced practitioner very sore!
Magic Circle adds a lot to pilates workout.......2007-05-14
I'm new to the magic circle and love it. It has added more potential for toning to short pilates workouts. This DVD in particular is very good--the sequences are challenging while still being doable. You don't waste time between positions--they just flow one right into the other. I enjoy that there are different levels of workouts. Additionally, I would recommend the other Classical Pilates Technique DVDs.
Best out there!.......2007-04-28
I'm a pilates instructor but before I became certified, I looked very hard to find a tape that would be a no nonsence, straight pilates, no breaks workout. This was a very challenging task to accomplish until I found Classical Pilates. Every one of their tapes is excellent. It teaches REAL pilates and doesn't try sugar coating the exercises or changing them from the original method as Joseph Pilates designed. If you want to learn the real deal, Classical Pilates is the way to go!

A polished gem from 1995, this disarmingly sweet and dramatically insightful love story provided a charming showcase for Chris O'Donnell and, especially, then-newcomer Minnie Driver, whose performance drew critical raves and boosted her career to Hollywood. Smoothly adapted from the novel by Maeve Binchy and set in Ireland during the 1950s, the story focuses on Benny (Driver), a somewhat plump, plain-looking young woman attending university in Dublin who meets and quickly falls for Jack (O'Donnell), a handsome star of the university's rugby team who surprisingly reciprocates her glowing admiration. They're drawn together as soul mates, and their love is dramatically contrasted with a subplot involving Benny's more conventionally beautiful friend Nan (Saffron Burrows), whose appetite for older men leads her into a misguided and ultimately tragic relationship. A betrayal by Jack sets the stage for potential heartbreak, but director Pat O'Connor prevents these carefully drawn characters from resorting to sappy melodrama. They have lessons to learn about life and love, and Circle of Friends teaches those lessons with grace, humor, and heartfelt sincerity. --Jeff Shannon

Elements of Comedy and Sorrow.......2007-05-26
This is a movie that touches your heart.
Lush and green (of course) is the rich background of this Irish film, the girls are all dolls and it's an enriching film to watch.
Once you've watched it , you can't forget it as it starts with childhood and ends at the brim of adulthood, giving us, the viewers something we can all recognize, which is friendship.
Irish Luck in Love.......2006-04-14
Minnie Driver's star making film explores the 50's in Catholic Ireland and how the lives of three girls revolve around love, friendship, and choices. A semi-autobiographical tale from one of Ireland's most popular writers.
Nice movie; No one is saving the world........2006-02-14
That's basically it. It's a nice movie about learning how to grow up. I have a feeling that all over the world and all over the times people struggle at this age, at this time of their lives and with the same results. Not to give a Nietzsche quote but we learn from our mistakes and eventually the pain, the sting and the tears, end. And we are perhaps only imperceptibly, a little stronger. Love and broken hearts. One of the great, great plots. Maybe the greatest.
O'Donnell is a lot of fun. I haven't seen him lately but I am sure he will pop up; Minnie Driver is great and conveys a sense of innocence, quiet passion and a joie vivre.
The real star is Ireland. They say "post-war Ireland" but Ireland wasn't in the war. It was neutral. Still, the war raped Europe and Ireland suffered with the rest. A beautiful country; a nice story. 4 stars. Larry Scantlebury
Good Movie, Great Book.......2005-10-12
This is a very enjoyable movie with lots of familiar faces. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is the book tells the story better. Benny becomes a much stronger character in the book, and has some additional revelations about her worth and value.
The movie hits on most of the highlights of the book. This is for all those gals who have ever been slightly awkward or overweight-- there is more to life than just your looks.
Great characters.......2005-03-01
I think I loved the book so much that I enjoyed the movie just because it let me think about Binchy's characters in different situations.
Yes, the book is completely different from the Pat O'Connor film (esp the ending and the Coldagh/Fonsie storyline...which were two of the best things about the book for me) -- but it can still be enjoyed on its own. What made me want to own the movie was the scene between Eve and Nan in Eve's cottage kitchen. I loved Eve's monologue, and it still gives me chills. The casting for Eve, Nan, Sean and Benny was perfect.
The DVD itself does not offer much by way of extras. I was hoping to see some deleted scenes, but the only bonus features available were the trailer (which made the movie seem much more dynamic and interesting than it actually was) some promotional spots, and a mini "featurette".

Description
10 years into their career Rhapsody Of Fire finally deliver their long overdue and eagerly awaited DVD, entitled Visions From The Enchanted Lands. This superb double DVD not only shows the brilliant live skills of the band, but also allows the viewer a lush behind-the-scenes introspective thanks to the abundant bonus material. DVD 1 captures various tracks recorded live in Canada during the band's most recent tour. In between songs, there are interviews with the band members giving the viewer impressions of the great vibe during this tour.
The second DVD is packed with bonus material. The viewer gets a lot more behind-the-scenes impressions and documents about the collaboration with Christopher Lee, the orchestra, as well as with label mates Manowar and the management. Even a visit to Haus Wahnfried, Manowar's studio, where a rehearsal was cut for exclusive inclusion for the DVD. Moreover there are video clips of The Magic Of The Wizards Dream, Unholy Warcry, the Making Of and some different versions.
Customer Reviews:
A full concert would have been nice........2007-09-06
It should be noted that I am a huge Rhapsody (of Fire) fan and that no DVD release this year excited me more than this one.
The format of the DVD is such that both discs are essentially "behind the scenes" documentaries. The difference being that the first disc has a handful of live songs thrown in (eight I believe) where as the second one is entirely extra footage and documentary segments.
For a first commercial DVD release, it is rather disappointing to not have a complete set list that substantiates a full 90 minute concert. I can't imagine who made the decision to put the priority on self indulgent interviews and footage from shooting music videos, but they should be fired (or seriously rethink their position). I know I am not the only Rhapsody fan clambering for a complete live concert DVD experience (see Blind Guardian, Kamelot, and Nightwish for examples). Maybe one day we'll all get our wish.
Otherwise, the songs that are included are played well and all technical aspects of the DVD seem adequate.
Good, but was hoping for more live footage.......2007-08-29
Overall this DVD was very enjoyable. Since it's the only Rhapsody DVD available I can't complain too much but what really irks me is that I was hoping it would contain a complete concert. As a fan in the USA who has not had the chance to see Rhapsody live I was looking forward to the complete concert experience. The behind the scenes footage is interesting but I would've preferred it to have been treated as bonus footage accompanying a concert performance.
It's obvious this DVD was influenced a lot by label mate, Joey DeMaio of Manowar fame. The format is very similar to the Manowar DVD's. That's not necessarily a bad thing if there were other DVD's to choose from but alas I believe I'll have to keep waiting to see the real thing. I may have to schedule a European vacation soon if I can't satisfy my live Rhapsody cravings here in the States.
