Arguing With Myself, a recorded live performance of ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, portrays a comedian whose revival of an old-fashioned art has made ventriloquism more relevant to modern societal concerns. Starring his six main characters, from Bubba Jay, a Nascar-obsessed hick, to Peanut, a flamboyant gay monkey, Dunham's puppets have dirty but relatively inoffensive senses of humor that mock the American Dream. One can easily see why Jay Leno champions Dunham, as his skits contain a similar sly sarcasm disguised as wholesome teasing aimed at men indebted to their ugly wives, for example, or people who live their lives working in cubicles. At times, though, Dunham's humor seems to lose its ironic distance, especially as he interacts with puppets like Jose Jalapeño, a Cuban chile pepper, or Sweet Daddy D, a Black pimp, both reliant on the antiquated humor once popularized in cartoons by racial caricature. Since the entire audience in the film is white, it is difficult to assess whether or not African-Americans or Latinos would find Dunham funny. In other words, Dunham's humor isn't overtly offensive enough to make fun of ethnic heritage. However, his skills as a ventriloquist alone make him a fascinating entertainer, and anyone interested in how puppetry and ventriloquism has progressed over the decades would benefit from watching Dunham bring life to his wooden friends. --Trinie Dalton
Description
Breathing life into an elderly curmudgeon, a purple human-like creature from the Micronesian islands, and a self-effacing talking jalapeno on a stick, Jeff Dunham is straight man to some of the funniest partners in show business! His comedic skill and impeccable technique serve as slight of hand however, drawing attention away from the fact that Dunham is a ventriloquist extraordinaire.
It's Jeff Dunham along with his outspoken and often edgy characters: Walter, Peanut, Jose Jalapeno ("...on a steeek!"), Bubba J, and Sweet Daddy Dee in their full, uncut, and uncensored live stage show that will leave you on the floor laughing like no other!

Laugh........2007-09-17
I love to watch this video... especially on a tough day. The humor is great and Jeff is truly talented.
Brilliant!!.......2007-09-16
I saw jeff back in the early 90's at The Laff Stop in Montclair CA. He was newly married and his wife was sitting just behind us a few seats down. I laughed so hard my brother was worried about me. He thought I would eventually pass out and die. It's true! I was bent over having laughing spasms. A new joke would be told before I finished laughing from the last one. I couldn't keep up...LOL!!
This DVD hit me the same way. Jeff uses all his best stuff to create an hour of non-stop laughter. You won't be disappointed and most of you will become big fans, if not already so. Enjoy!!
Jeff Dunham - Arguing With Myself.......2007-09-15
This is one funny video. One thing I must say first off put the kids to bed for this one. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. If I had to choose my favorite puppet it would be hard to choose. "Peanut" is a clear sign of someone hyped up on to much suger. Walter is sign of a bitter man. Both are VERY FUNNY. If you want a laugh get this. I like the idea that it has a bleeped version and non bleeped version. Enjoy this one.
Exellent.......2007-09-15
This show is awsome in every way possible. I started laughing at the menu, and dident stop til hour's later, after the show. He really knows what he is doing... This is worth every dollar, people. and then some...

E.B. White's classic tale gets a Babe-like makeover in Charlotte's Web, a delightful and well-made film that is sure to become a family classic. Directed by Gary Winick (13 Going on 30), the new version eschews the musical numbers of the 1973 cartoon and mixes CGI with live-action animals. Dakota Fanning brings the right amount of chutzpah to Fern, the young farm girl who rescues a runt, Wilbur, from death and visits him every day at her Uncle Homer's farm. But it's Wilbur's friendship with Charlotte the spider (voiced by Julia Roberts) that ultimately saves him from the "smoke house" (a kid-friendly alternative term to the slaughterhouse), for Charlotte's talent for weaving praiseworthy words about Wilbur into her web turns the Zuckerman farm into a tourist attraction. The more tragic elements of the book are handled sensitively by Winick, working from a script by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), and Roberts' soothing, maternal voice (who knew it would work so well?) makes it all go down easy. It turns out to be just one of many perfect celebrity voice-casting choices, for the farm animals, voiced by an all-star cast including Oprah Winfrey (the goose), Robert Redford (the horse), Steve Buscemi (Templeton the rat), and John Cleese (the sheep), lend plenty of sharp humor. But it's two corn-hungry crows, voiced by Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) and OutKast's Andre "3000" Benjamin who steal the show. (Ages 4 and older) -- Ellen A. Kim

Product Description
The classic story of loyalty, trust, and sacrifice comes to life in this live-action adaptation. Fern (Dakota Fanning) is one of only two living beings who sees that Wilbur is a special animal as she raises him, the runt of the litter, into a terrific and radiant pig. As Wilbur moves into a new barn, he begins a second profound friendship with the most unlikely of creatures - a spider named Charlotte - and their bond inspires the animals around them to come together as a family. When the word gets out that Wilbur's days are numbered, it seems that only a miracle will save his life. A determined Charlotte - who sees miracles in the ordinary - spins words into her web in an effort to convince the farmer that Wilbur is "some pig" and worth saving.

I thought this movie was nice and the animals look so real and they help out there friend .
Great Movie!.......2007-08-22
This movie is great for kids or adults of any age. Very good animal personalities and voices. Recommended!
One of the best kid movies ever.......2007-08-07
I like this movie even better than the original animated movie. It's a favorite for kids and adults in our house.
Cute!.......2007-08-03
Look, nothing beets the book, but this live action version is pretty good! I like that the pig isn't as whiny as in the cartoon. However if you've read the book Wilbur does come across as whiny and needy. A little too much for my taste. This version makes him much more enjoyable. Just my opinion.
Not just an itsy bitsh spider!.......2007-07-25
As a kid, CHARLOTTE'S WEB was my favorite story, and I vividly remember it making me cry (several times, in fact!). I was thrilled to hear that they were coming out with an ambitious theatrical release of the story. I was not disappointed!
The ensemble of voices is impressive, featuring Reba McIntyre, Cathy Bates, Steve Buscemi, Robert Redford, Oprah Winfrey, John Cleese and Julia Roberts as Charlotte. The CGI effects are wonderful and they bring all the barnyard animals to life.
If you're in the market for a family friendly movie, you would do well to pick this one up. They stick pretty close to the book w/out doing too much improvisation, and it's clear by the big names associated with the project that CHARLOTTE'S WEB is a story that is / was dear to the hearts of a great many people.

Amazon.com essential video
Winner of eight Academy Awards, including Best Director (Bob Fosse), Best Actress (Liza Minnelli), and Best Supporting Actor (Joel Grey), Cabaret would also have taken Best Picture if it hadn't been competing against The Godfather as the most acclaimed film of 1972. (Francis Ford Coppola would have to wait two years before winning Best Director, for The Godfather, Part II.) Brilliantly adapted from the acclaimed stage production, which was in turn inspired by Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories and the play and movie I Am a Camera, this remarkable musical turns the pre-war Berlin of 1931 into a sexually charged haven of decadence. Minnelli commands the screen as nightclub entertainer Sally Bowles, who radiantly goes on with the show as the Nazis rise to power, holding her many male admirers (including Michael York and Helmut Griem) at a distance that keeps her from having to bother with genuinely deep emotions. Joel Grey is the master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub who will guarantee a great show night after night as a way of staving off the inevitable effects of war and dictatorship. They're all living in a morally ambiguous vacuum of desperate anxiety, determined to keep up appearances as the real world--the world outside the comfortable sanctuary of the cabaret--prepares for the nightmarish chaos of war. Director-choreographer Fosse achieves a finely tuned combination of devastating drama and ebullient entertainment, and the result is one of the most substantial screen musicals ever made. The dual-layered Special Edition widescreen DVD includes an exclusive 25th-anniversary documentary, Cabaret: A Legend in the Making, a 1972 promotional featurette, a photo gallery, production notes, the theatrical trailer, and more. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to Cabaret. The winner of eight Academy Awards, it boasts a score by the legendary songwriting partnership behind another film that would energize the movie musical genre with equal razzle-dazzle 30 years later: Chicago's John Kander and Fred Ebb. Inside the Kit Kat Club of 1931 Berlin, starry-eyed singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) and an impish emcee (Joel Grey) sound the clarion call to decadent fun, while outside a certain political party grows into a brutal force. Cabaret caught lightning (and won Oscars) for Minnelli, Grey and director Bob Fosse, who shaped a triumph of style and substance. Come to this Cabaret, old chum. You'll never want to leave.

I'm going like Elsie!!!.......2007-07-05
This movie shows Berlin at it's finest/Darkest hour. Even with a war going on people still managed to have a great time and forget about the dark cloud above their heads. Liza as Sally Bowles was pure genius. Whenever you have self doubt watch this movie and u will have a whole new look on how u live ur life....
Cabaret.......2007-07-03
Fosse's groundbreaking "Cabaret," a Broadway musical-turned-showstopping film event, was itself based on a novel by Christopher Isherwood. While the film considers Germany's dark, historic slide from Weimar decadence into fascism from an intriguing angle, it's the effusive, stylishly choreographed song-sequences that elevate the film to classic status. Minnelli was never better as the brash, electrifying Sally, especially belting out "Money" or the Dietrich-like "Tomorrow Belongs to Me." And who can forget Joel Grey, the Kit Kat's eccentric, ghastly master of ceremonies? Winner of eight Oscars, "Cabaret" is a flamboyant knockout.
A flashy but ultimately unmoving film.......2007-06-22
Cabaret contains some great musical numbers - but the accompanying story is less compelling.
Michael York plays a stiff Englishman Brian Roberts newly arrived in 1930s Germany just as the Nazis are coming to power. He meets dancer/prostitute Sally Bowles played by Liza Minelli who works at the seedy Kit Kat club. Many of the musical numbers are set at the club and counterpoint the story.
Both York's and Minelli's characters are hard to like. They are morally corrupt and at the end of the film they end up right where they started - without seemingly having learning anything.
Minelli copped an Oscar for her performance and there is little doubt that in the musical numbers she is a knockout - as an actress, however, she is somewhat limited. Joel Grey also won an Oscar as the grotesque "Master of Proceedings" at the Kit Kat club.
Despite the trappings the film provides little atmosphere of 1930s Germany, no doubt hampered by its low budget. "Cabaret" is flashy but somewhat empty.
The picture on the DVD transfer is grainy but the sound is OK.
Cabaret DVD.......2007-05-07
After recently seeing the stage show version, I bought the DVD ...and I liked it better than the stage show. It was easier to understand.
Enduring entertainment.......2007-03-08
I saw Cabaret many years ago and loved it. After watching it again on DVD the other evening, I realized it's just as entertaining now as it was then because it hasn't lost its freshness. Another realization was that the anti-intolerance message is just as pertinent today as it was then. In fact, it may be even more important today to realize the danger in mob psychology. A message with great music and a love story!!! What a deal.

The penguins steal the show. In the sprightly Madagascar, a mid-life crisis inspires Marty the Zebra (voiced by Chris Rock) to escape from his lifelong home, a New York zoo. His equally pampered friends--Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer)--then escape to bring him back. Unfortunately, their attempt at damage control persuades zoo officials that the animals are unhappy, so all four get shipped to an animal preserve in Kenya...only a squad of maniacal penguins change the destination to Antarctica. The quartet end up on an island where, in addition to meeting some hedonistic lemurs, they learn about the food chain--and that Alex is a different link on the chain from the other three. Madagascar doesn't achieve the snappy perfection of a Pixar movie, but it tops most other computer-animated efforts; the collision of friendship and predator instincts makes for an unusually gripping conflict. The vocal performances of the central characters is serviceable, but Sacha Baron Cohen (Da Ali G Show) provides topnotch lunacy as the lemur king, and the penguins--voiced mostly by the animators themselves--are the best thing in the movie. --Bret Fetzer

Lived Up To Good Reputation .......2007-09-09
Here's another recently-made animated film that has two outstanding characteristics which make it a winner: 1 - consistently funny humor that adults can enjoy, and 2 - beautiful, bold colors.
When a movie is both fun to hear and to watch, I have very few complaints. This movie provides a lot of enjoyment with more jokes perhaps that adults would laugh at than the kids. I can't say that for sure, since I watched it by myself....but I sure got my share of laughs
The main thing is that all the characters, including supporting ones, are likable and funny in their own way. Every character is quite different. The story movies exceptionally fast so the hour-and-a-half is easy to watch.
Bad tape.......2007-08-06
this is the first used dvd item i bought from amazon that was terrible, i played it for a few minutes then it just stop playing. we was on a road trip and my kids was so mad. My husband said you should call that person and tell them them that he knew that dvd wasnt any good. After this i dont think i will buy anymore dvd's.
One of our family's all time favorite!.......2007-08-03
My teen girls and husband think this movie is hilarious! They are quoting lines from it all of the time. Great to watch together. Love the humor.
Not the best family film of all-time.......2007-08-01
I remember seeing "Madagascar" two years ago on the silver screen. I liked it a lot back then, but nowadays, I'm too critical over family films, whether or not if they are computer animation, claymation, 2D animation of live-action. But when it comes to family films, I go for the computer animated films -- ESPECIALLY the ones made by Pixar.
Even though "Madagascar" is a fun family film, clearly, we've seen better animated movies in our past, like "Ice Age," "Shrek" or "Finding Nemo." But the best ideas for animation films are usually the folks at Pixar. But they don't hit badly through most animated films out there in the real world.
"Madagascar" tells the story of the zoo animals Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer). One night on his 10th birthday, Marty wishes that he can go to the wild to meet the wildlife. This leads to trouble when he escapes that night. So, his friends Alex, Gloria and Melman all go out to find him by escaping the Central Park Zoo.
Immediately after trouble and chaos comes from New York City, the animals get shipped to the wild. All Alex really wants is to get home to still become the zoo's greatest king. But soon, they live life and realize that not everything turns out the way they think it is to be about.
The story is really short, and maybe at a few times the least, it can get confusing and weak. However, it's still a fun movie and can make a great lead to a better start for Dreamworks. Now, I'm also reviewing this movie, because I know that in November 2008, there's a sequel to this movie, "Madagascar: The Crate Escape," which I doubt will look better than the first. Although, I say it in this sort of matter, it's probably because the movie didn't really end that well for a sequel. But I can understand why kids like these movies a lot, and this can grow a little to me when I see it enough.
"Madagascar" isn't the best family film ever made, but it sure beats the pants off of "Robots" and "Shark Tale." You may not need anyone as irritating as Jack Black, Will Smith or Robin Williams. Instead, you get scene-stealing performances from Sacha Baron Cohen aka "My name-a Borat," and the director Tom McGrath as the penguin leader.
Ben Stiller can be funny as hell in most movies. However in "Madagascar," he can work for a few laughs but mostly through his corney dialogue, which actually turns out to be pretty good. Just different from his romantic comedies. Although, I, for some reason, don't really like Chris Rock, yet, he's got even more godawful dialogue, which turns out to be pretty good.
Overall except for story, you should enjoy "Madagascar." It's a nice family film and can grow onto me a few times whenever I see it. But the visual effects can also add in its lame, but it'll still work for a family film - not a sequel.

This semi-remake of Holiday Inn (the first movie in which Irving Berlin's perennial, Oscar-winning holiday anthem was featured) doesn't have much of a story, but what it does have is choice: Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, an all-Irving Berlin song score, classy direction by Hollywood vet Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood), VistaVision (the very first feature ever shot in that widescreen format), and ultrafestive Technicolor! Crosby and Kaye are song-and-dance men who hook up, romantically and professionally, with a "sister" act (Clooney and Vera-Ellen) to put on a Big Show to benefit the struggling ski-resort lodge run by the beloved old retired general (Dean Jagger) of their WWII Army outfit. Crosby is cool, Clooney is warm, Kaye is goofy, and Vera-Ellen is leggy. Songs include: "Sisters" (Crosby and Kaye do their own drag version, too), "Snow," "We'll Follow the Old Man," "Mandy," "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep," and more. Christmas would be unthinkable without White Christmas. --Jim Emerson

White Christmas.......2007-07-25
Aaaaaaaaaaaah more Bing. This movie reminds me of simpler times. It reminds of the Roger's & Hammersteins favorites. It is a wonderful movie for those who are young and old. Everyone's eyes glimmer with the thought of Christmas when the world is a little nicer and when everyone turns the other cheeck. Enjoy!!!
A personal favourite.......2007-05-26
Firstly, I should disclose that I've never seen IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE - I was never able to catch it when I was a kid, nor as an adult. I watched White Christmas when I was 12, and was completely enchanted by it. Twenty years later, and it still a film that holds tremendous charm for me.
We live in such a selfish postmodernist cynical world - optimism and hope are in short supply, especially in a generation of adults raised on a narrow-minded pop-culture diet. Don't get me wrong, Star Wars is great, but every now and then I need a reminder that being kind to another human being isn't something to be sneered at. White Christmas is that film.
Bing Crosby is paired with Danny Kaye, which surprised me initially considering he's usually seen with Bob Hope. There's a different energy there, but it's no less fun to watch. Bing Crosby brings his wonderful voice, and Danny Kaye brings his humour and sense of fun. Perfect. Rosemary Clooney and Vera Lynn are wonderful as the Haines sisters. And Dean Jagger is very dignified as General Waverley. Mary Wickes is also fun to watch as the nosy Emma Allen. The only jarring note (for me) is an odd modern dance number right in the middle of the film. Whuh? That sequence hasn't at all dated well.
For me, this is the film that I try and watch every Christmas. And with its appearance on DVD, I finally (at last!) have a permanent copy of my favourite Christmas film! Isn't technology wonderful?
A Christmas Classic..........2007-05-21
White Christmas is a classic that should not be missed. The singing and dancing is amazing, with stellar performances by all four of the leads. The story itself is cute, and if the final scene doesn't bring a tear to your eye you are heartless. It is nostalgic, touching, and you should definitely add it to your holiday movie collection. This one is not to be missed!
Holiday Favorite.......2007-04-03
This is a holiday favorite in our house. However, we watch it even when the holiday is gone. I has amazing actors like Bing Crosby and his wonderful voice. The story is sweet and definatley a favorite. I love old movies and this one is on the top of my list.
last minute x-mas gift.......2007-03-08

Generally considered the first sound feature, this 1927 film is pretty much silent except for a few lines of dialogue and Al Jolson's songs. The story finds Jolson playing the son of a cantor who wants him to follow in his footsteps, but the singer prefers secular music. Except for its historical value, the film isn't all that interesting, though it is great to get a sense of why people considered Jolson to be a hugely exciting entertainer at the time. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
God Bless Warner Home Video!.......2007-08-06
First, ignore the old comments in this string that refer to the old VHS release and have nothing to do with this truly awesome new 3 DVD set. The content is awesome. Even if you have no interest in the feature (which has been completely restored with sound direct from origina discs and a new print). The fact this set contains 26 early, never on DVD (most never on video) Vitaphone vaudeville and music shorts from 1926-30, a new feature length documentary on the coming of sound, a dozen more shorts, and loads more extras ---- for less than $30 on Amazon --- makes this a must have for any film buff.
Recognize that NO other studio is releasing this kind of early talkie material, nor shorts. WHV is to be congratulated for assembling a first class package in a first class way. Please spread the word on this set. If it does well, perhaps more early stuff will emerge from the vaults!
Producer George Feltenstein deserves special recogition for sticking his neck out and producing a stellar set. Thanks!
It could have been so much better!.......2007-07-13
Excellent news but it could have been so much better. It has taken a long time for The Jazz Singer to be released on DVD and I can't wait to get my hands on the restored film and all of extras, particularly "Plantation Act" where the Jolson of 1926 sings "Rock-A-Bye your Baby", When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along" and "April Showers" WOW!
We should have had much more of Jolson. Al Jolson was and is "The Jazz Singer".
If any of the artists in the Vitaphone music shorts, or ANYBODY else, had stared in "The Jazz Singer" it would not be remembered as "the first sound film", the film that revolutionized the industry. Warner's realised this when they asked him to collect their special Oscar at the first Academy Awards ceremony. "I don't know what Jack Warner's going to do with this statue. It can't say yes".
So Jolson wasn't tall or handsome, he wasn't an actor but he could present a song and he could move an audience. Whilst today's DVD buyer might not appreciate Jolson's later films in their entirety what a great fourth disc it would have been to include all of his songs from his Warner films. (As we are promised with Judy Garland in the Rooney, Garland five disc set to be released end of September). Another unbelievable extra would have been the screen tests that Al Jolson made in 1948 before the shooting of "Jolson Sings Again". Either to convince the studio that he was still young enough to play himself or as a guide for Larry Parks, as if!
I can only hope the there is more to come and that "We ain't seen nothin' yet".
A great and legendary film!.......2007-07-13
Those who know the film and history need not hear anymore from me. But I have to say, I'm glad I already own this movie in a great condition VHS tape, because I don't care to pay nearly $40.00 retail for a deluxe edition with two extra discs that I don't really care about. Perhaps if they re-release it later as just a single disc with the film only, then I'll purchase it.
poor quality.......2007-02-04
The quality of the video is poor. It looks like either the original movie was not preserved adeqately or the process of converting it to VHS was inadequate.
80th Anniversary Edition features announced.......2006-12-21
In 1926 Sam Warner of the Warner Brothers decided to invest in the Vitaphone sound system. Don Juan was their first Vitaphone film, but it only contained music and sound effects. In 1927 Warner adapted the Samson Raphaelson Broadway hit The Jazz Singer into a movie and, this time, they incorporated vocal musical numbers in what was still a silent film for all but twenty minutes. Contrary to popular belief, audiences had heard music on film before, and they had heard dialogue on film before. What they had not heard or seen before were either of these things being particularly entertaining. When Jolson sings "Blue Skies" to his mother while adlibbing humorous comments, it all came across as so completely natural that people suddenly realized that sound on film could be entertaining and not just some novelty act. Despite its many shortcomings, including the predictable storyline, The Jazz Singer was a box-office success and a cinema milestone.
This new 80th Anniversary Edition of the Jazz Singer due in October 2007 contains three discs of extras and appears to be just as much a tribute to the birth of the talking picture as a fully digitized release of the Jazz Singer. Disc 1 is dedicated to the film itself, and includes a commentary track. "A Plantation Act" is also included. This is a 1926 Vitaphone short also starring Jolson. Disc 2 is dedicated to the silent to sound transition and includes a documentary on this subject along with shorter featurettes. The real jewel in the crown of this disc is the excerpt from "The Gold Diggers of Broadway". That was the top-grossing picture of 1929 and is an example of a very good all-Technicolor musical of the pre-Depression era. Unfortunately, it was considered lost for years and only a little over two reels (about 20 minutes) survive. Disc 3 contains almost four hours of Vitaphone shorts. These films run the gamut from musical theater legends and vaudeville acts, to dramatic vignettes and classical music performances from the most prestigious artists of the era. Most of these were shorts considered lost for decades, until a consortium of archivists and historians joined forces with a goal to restore these time capsules of entertainment history. Up until now, contemporary audiences have only been able to see these shorts via rare retrospective showings in a few large cities, or through the limited release of a restored handful of the earliest subjects, which were part of a 1996 laserdisc set. This new collection will finally make these films available on DVD. The actual Vitaphone shorts are included in the product description. Seems like a must buy for anyone interested in the film itself or the dawn of sound.

This is Kathy AT HER UNCENSORED BEST ! .......2007-07-03
Kathy Griffin's Life is D-list - only according to her. To her fans, she is A -list all the way, and this DVD proves it! 'Allegedly' is Kathy at her uncensored, straight-up, no-holds-barred, un-bleeped best. This a stand-up routine from 2004 that is just as hysterical today, and it's definately something you'll watch over and over. Whether she's dishing on Brooke Sheild's mom, Gwyneth, Barbara Walters and the ladies of The View or any other random celebrity in Hollywood, Kathy shoots straight from the hip, and takes aim at everyone! No one is safe from her razor sharp wit or her acid tongue...even if it is only 'allegedly' true! This lady is amazing to watch onstage. You can almost see her mind racing from one hot topic to another, and she'll make you laugh so hard, your sides will hurt. When was the last time that happened? Pick this one up NOW, and enjoy it. You won't regret it.

But the visual effects can also add in its lame, but it'll still work for a family film - not a sequel.
movie mania.......2007-07-24
Wonderful movie and my grandsons love watching it. The shipping was fairly fast and the price was terrific.

James Cagney thrills in a rare (and limber) song-and-dance performance as composer-entertainer George M. Cohan. This nostalgic biography is told in flashbacks, covering Cohan's formative years becoming Broadway's brightest star and touching upon his loves, musicals, and artistic triumphs. Director Michael Curtiz (The Adventures of Robin Hood) offers Cagney ample opportunities to invent an utterly charming performance in what is practically a one-man show. If you've never seen Cagney as a hoofer, you're in for a treat: his dancing is as dynamic as anything else he's ever done on screen. --Tom Keogh
Description
A nostalgic view of the golden era of show business and the man who made it glitter--George M. Cohan. His early days, triumphs, songs, musicals and romances.
Customer Reviews:
Yankee Doodle Dandy.......2007-08-22
This movie is an all time classic. The second disc was entertaining as well with reviews from other actors.
James Cagney-All American.......2007-08-17
First about James Cagney, as an actor one of the best ever, may be top five male actors. He was as comfortable as a gangster as a song and dance man. Read about his life, very remarkable. As for the movie, it seems the older I get the more I enjoyed it. Several people in my life said it was their favorite movie, I think it is now mine. I guess they knew what they were talking about. Not the best movie just the favorite. Don't try and analyze the movie just sit back and enjoy it. My favorite part is when Cagney is playing FDR and he keeps singing along and saying this is "off the record" and that is "off the record" but there is one part that he says "IS ON THE RECORD". Watch the movie (or listen to the disc) and see what he says is on the record. Every song is a classic. If you ever go to Broadway see the George M. Cohan statue, Broadway and 45th I think. With all the construction there it might have temporarily been moved. If you enjoyed the movie get the disc. I always listen to it when I drive. Will we ever see another James Cagney or George M. Cohan?
Yankee Doodle Dandy (Two-Disc Special Edition).......2007-08-15
There is nothing like James Cagney singing and dancing his way across the screen! If you love James Cagney, then this is a must-have DVD for your Cagney collection. I wish he had done more musicals.
Cagney and the Music.......2007-08-04
A very "red, white and blue" George M. Cohan film biography produced during WW2. For the Baby Boomer generation, most of these songs are probably pretty familiar. James Cagney sings and dances through the entire movie - some of his best efforts in both areas. And as for the acting - it's Cagney, what do your expect? Good addition for anyone who likes 40's and 50's musicals.
Outstanding Warner's DVD edition .......2007-07-04
The merits of this film are well known - James Cagney's legendary performance, superb direction by Michal Curtiz, an excellent if colourless supporting cast and outstanding production values. As a wartime valentine to American patriotism, the film was a total success even if the schmaltz is laid on mighty thick but what makes this DVD set so special is the generous extras with which Warner Brothers have presented one of their most famous films. Try this for starters:
- a detailed documentary on Cagney presented by Michael Fox full of film clips and including comments from his daughter and Joan Leslie, among others.
- a detailed documentary on the film itself and a commentary to be played with the film by the pleasantly spoken Rudy Behlmer. Behlmer had access to the daily production notes and he tracks the filming in minute detail.
- a superb short film starring Cagney with Ann Sothern but showcasing little Margaret O'Brien. Cagney plays a family man who imagines the effect of an air raid on his daughter if they lived in parts of the world which were being bombed, unlike America. The short is more powerful than any number of war films which came out of Hollywood during this period and O'Brien is extraordinary.
- audio outtakes and rehearsals from the film's soundtrack
This is only part of what is here. It is overwhelming and any purchaser could not fail to become an expert on the film after viewing/listening to all the extras. This DVD is outstanding value.
