Amazon.com essential video
After creating the last great traditionally animated film of the 20th century, The Iron Giant, filmmaker Brad Bird joined top-drawer studio Pixar to create this exciting, completely entertaining computer-animated film. Bird gives us a family of "supers," a brood of five with special powers desperately trying to fit in with the 9-to-5 suburban lifestyle. Of course, in a more innocent world, Bob and Helen Parr were superheroes, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. But blasted lawsuits and public disapproval forced them and other supers to go incognito, making it even tougher for their school-age kids, the shy Violet and the aptly named Dash. When a stranger named Mirage (voiced by Elizabeth Pena) secretly recruits Bob for a potential mission, the old glory days spin in his head, even if his body is a bit too plump for his old super suit.
Bird has his cake and eats it, too. He and the Pixar wizards send up superhero and James Bond movies while delivering a thrilling, supercool action movie that rivals Spider-Man 2 for 2004's best onscreen thrills. While it's just as funny as the previous Pixar films, The Incredibles has a far wider-ranging emotional palette (it's Pixar's first PG film). Bird takes several jabs, including some juicy commentary on domestic life ("It's not graduation, he's moving from the fourth to fifth grade!").
The animated Parrs look and act a bit like the actors portraying them, Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter. Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee also have a grand old time as, respectively, superhero Frozone and bad guy Syndrome. Nearly stealing the show is Bird himself, voicing the eccentric designer of superhero outfits ("No capes!"), Edna Mode.
Nominated for four Oscars, The Incredibles won for Best Animated Film and, in an unprecedented win for non-live-action films, Sound Editing.
The Presentation
This two-disc set is (shall we say it?), incredible. The digital-to-digital transfer pops off the screen and the 5.1 Dolby sound will knock the socks off most systems. But like any superhero, it has an Achilles heel. This marks the first Pixar release that doesn't include both the widescreen and full-screen versions in the same DVD set, which was a great bargaining chip for those cinephiles who still want a full-frame presentation for other family members. With a 2.39:1 widescreen ratio (that's big black bars, folks, à la Dr. Zhivago), a few more viewers may decide to go with the full-frame presentation. Fortunately, Pixar reformats their full-frame presentation so the action remains in frame.
The Extras
The most-repeated segments will be the two animated shorts. Newly created for this DVD is the hilarious "Jack-Jack Attack," filling the gap in the film during which the Parr baby is left with the talkative babysitter, Kari. "Boundin'," which played in front of the film theatrically, was created by Pixar character designer Bud Luckey. This easygoing take on a dancing sheep gets better with multiple viewings (be sure to watch the featurette on the short).

Brad Bird still sounds like a bit of an outsider in his commentary track, recorded before the movie opened. Pixar captain John Lasseter brought him in to shake things up, to make sure the wildly successful studio would not get complacent. And while Bird is certainly likable, he does not exude Lasseter's teddy-bear persona. As one animator states, "He's like strong coffee; I happen to like strong coffee." Besides a resilient stance to be the best, Bird threw in an amazing number of challenges, most of which go unnoticed unless you delve into the 70 minutes of making-of features plus two commentary tracks (Bird with producer John Walker, the other from a dozen animators). We hear about the numerous sets, why you go to "the Spaniards" if you're dealing with animation physics, costume problems (there's a reason why previous Pixar films dealt with single- or uncostumed characters), and horror stories about all that animated hair. Bird's commentary throws out too many names of the animators even after he warns himself not to do so, but it's a lively enough time. The animator commentary is of greatest interest to those interested in the occupation.
There is a 30-minute segment on deleted scenes with temporary vocals and crude drawings, including a new opening (thankfully dropped). The "secret files" contain a "lost" animated short from the superheroes' glory days. This fake cartoon (Frozone and Mr. Incredible are teamed with a pink bunny) wears thin, but play it with the commentary track by the two superheroes and it's another sharp comedy sketch. There are also NSA "files" on the other superheroes alluded to in the film with dossiers and curiously fun sound bits. "Vowellet" is the only footage about the well-known cast (there aren't even any obligatory shots of the cast recording their lines). Author/cast member Sarah Vowell (NPR's This American Life) talks about her first foray into movie voice-overs--daughter Violet--and the unlikelihood of her being a superhero. The feature is unlike anything we've seen on a Disney or Pixar DVD extra, but who else would consider Abe Lincoln an action figure? --Doug Thomas

Expect the Incredible..........2007-09-05
Imagine we lived in a world where superheroes actually existed. What would that world be like? It would probably be pretty nice. But what if something happened, an accident of some sort that was inadvertently caused by these same heroes that put many in jeopardy, and maybe even cost innocent lives. Would we shun these heroes who had saved our lives countless other times over one incident when fate didn't go our way? Well, that's probably what would happen given the state of our society, and is exactly what happens in Disney/Pixar's computer animated hit movie "The Incredibles".
"The Incredibles" is about a family of heroes who find themselves trying to fit into normal everyday life, after the government was forced to put them into a sort of witness protection program designed for those with extraordinary abilities. Bob Parr (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and his wife Helen (Holly Hunter) are doing their best to raise their anything but normal family and stay out of the media spotlight. Their oldest child Violet, is a somewhat depressed, introverted young girl who possesses the ability to become invisible, which she does whenever a cute boy is around. The middle child, Dash, is the exact opposite of his sister, as he is a hyperactive kid who definitely lives up to his name with his ability of super-speed. Then there's Jack-Jack, the baby, his power is to drool on everything and look cute. Living the life of a normal person doesn't set too well with Bob though, as he is constantly drawn to the glory days, when heroes were honored by the people and depended upon to right the wrongs. So when a mysterious offer is made that could give Bob the excuse he needs to use his powers again, he of course leaps at the opportunity, but what he soon discovers is that often times if the offer is too good to be true, then it probably is. Now, Bob finds himself in a fight for not only his life, but also that of his family and friends in the hidden superhero community.
Just when I thought that Pixar couldn't possibly do any better than their classics, "Finding Nemo" and "Toy Story", those creative gurus go and deliver what is quite possibly their best film to date. Now, I'll admit I may be a bit more biased towards this movie since it is a superhero themed movie, a subject matter that I enjoy due to my interest in comic books and their movie adaptations, but aside from that I believe that this is a truly well put together piece of cinema that the entire family can sit back and enjoy on multiple levels. That's the glorious thing about Pixar films, is that they actually strive to contain a little something for everyone to enjoy. For instance, in this movie their is thrilling action sequences (for the action buffs), family drama (for the dramatic types), a little romance (for you mushy people out there), and of course, comedy (which is where the movie truly shines by having comedy that hits all sorts of age ranges).
The story for "The Incredibles" is a perfect superhero tale that is so well-developed that it can easily go toe-to-toe with it's live action counterparts, even besting some of them. It was an interesting approach to take by having the world go from essentially worshiping these heroes to shunning them the instant things didn't go smoothly, to turning back around and needing them again. Even though it was an animated movie full of comedy and adventure, the story is actually one that would probably be fairly true to life if this was to all take place in the real world. Which shows the depth that the creative teams at Pixar are willing to take their movies to in order to achieve the most entertaining experience possible for audiences. One final note regarding the story for "The Incredibles" is that this is the type of storytelling that I wish Marvel and 20th Century Fox would have taken with their film "Fantastic Four". Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed that movie as well, as my review stated, but I would have preferred a little more serious tone in the film. Which is why "The Incredibles" was a little bit better of a movie, in my opinion.
Another outstanding feature for most Pixar movies is their terrific vocal performances from all of their actors. A key component to making any successful animated movie is to have the best actors possible to bring these 2-D or 3-D characters to life. It's something that Disney has always strived for, and it's nice to see that Pixar is carrying on the tradition in order to continue making excellent family-friendly films. The voice actors gathered together for this film all turn in fun, engaging performances bringing each of their characters to life, in such a realistic way that balances perfectly with the beautifully rendered computer generated imagery. Which brings me to my final praise of the movie, the animation. As always the folks at Pixar deliver another awesome looking 3-D animated film that features CGI that rivals even the biggest live action blockbuster film.
All of these factors combined together are the prime examples for why Pixar remains the best of the best in animated films of any kind, and their hit film "The Incredibles" is no exception.
"The Incredibles" is rated PG for violence.
INCREDIBLE MOVIE.......2007-08-10
I must confess i loved this movie, it is very well conceived. The computer animation is amazing and the dialogue is very funny. I laughed my a** off at the Edith Head character, it was genius to channel her for this movie, she was the beginning and the end for movie fashion in her time. This movie represents one of the rare instances when adults will enjoy a kids movie at least as much if not more than the children it is intended for. Highly recommended on so many levels.
A little long.......2007-08-06
but my kids love it. Watched it once in the morning with them, then at night when their daddy came home from work. The characters are good, and there is lots of funny stuff going on.
REALLY read the lousy reviews..........2007-07-24
To understand why there are lousy reviews for this film, you have to read a few of them. For one thing, anyone that has chronic spelling problems may not be suited to review a movie with a sense of humor. Some of the material might be a little too much for their intellects. For another, the complaints that this isn't exactly a children's film come from the reviewers that must have missed the fact that it is rated PG not G. Big difference, don't you think? Finally, I would like these same boors to name me one 'wholesome' Disney picture that did NOT contain any frightening images. From the evil queen in the first Disney classic asking the huntsman to bring back Snow White's heart in a box, to Nemo and Marlin barely escaping their respective undersea terrors there are scary life lessons in all Disney films. Nothing my children had seen prepared them for the horrors they saw on the news on September 11th. This stuff pales by comparison. For the record, I am replacing my children's copy of The Incredibles as it is scratched from wear.
Worth Every Penny.......2007-07-15
Anybody who enjoys Pixar movies will enjoy this one. It has everything... action, suspense, comedy and a good story. I love the whole retro look of everything in the movie, it's great. The movie would not be complete without "Edna" the clothing designer. The character inter-action is outstanding. This is one of my all-time favorites from the Pixar files.

More than a few critics hailed Spider-Man 2 as "the best superhero movie ever," and there's no compelling reason to argue--thanks to a bigger budget, better special effects, and a dynamic, character-driven plot, it's a notch above Spider-Man in terms of emotional depth and rich comic-book sensibility. Ordinary People Oscar-winner Alvin Sargent received screenplay credit, and celebrated author and comic-book expert Michael Chabon worked on the story, but it's director Sam Raimi's affinity for the material that brings Spidey 2 to vivid life. When a fusion experiment goes terribly wrong, a brilliant physicist (Alfred Molina) is turned into Spidey's newest nemesis, the deranged, mechanically tentacled "Doctor Octopus," obsessed with completing his experiment and killing Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) in the process. Even more compelling is Peter Parker's urgent dilemma: continue his burdensome, lonely life of crime-fighting as Spider-Man, or pursue love and happiness with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst)? Molina's outstanding as a tragic villain controlled by his own invention, and the action sequences are nothing less than breathtaking, but the real success of Spider-Man 2 is its sense of priorities. With all of Hollywood's biggest and best toys at his disposal, Raimi and his writers stay true to the Marvel mythology, honoring Spider-Man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and setting the bar impressively high for the challenge of Spider-Man 3. --Jeff Shannon

Is it better than Spiderman 2?.......2007-08-24
I think this is a nice addition to the Spiderman movies but I personally liked the original Spiderman 2 a little better because some of the new scenes were different than the original and were not as good. I wish they just would have added new scenes without getting rid of some of the original scenes. For example, when Spiderman is riding the elevator, the original sequence is much better. In Spiderman 2.1 this scene is replaced with a similar scene that is not as funny. But the completely new scenes are good. Overall, a good addition to the Spiderman library.
Great movie!.......2007-07-23
I thought it was a great movie. Personally i think it's the best out of the three out today.
The Extended Version Should Be Release as Theaterical.......2007-06-27
I didn't know that this movie has it's extended version and when i saw the movie, i kept thinking that this extended version should be release as Theaterical release worldwide. Nuff said.
Spiderman 3.......2007-06-15
Spiderman 3 is an incredible movie with outstanding effects. The effets are a compliment to the amazing graphics!! Starring Toby Maguire as Peter Parker/Spiderman, and James Franco as the new Goblin/Harry Osborn. Which side will Harry and spidey be on joining. Will they reunite or rebel?
Was flint marko the true killer of uncle ben parker?who is the sandman? Many questions only to be answered if you see this movie yourself!!
This movie is unbelievable!! It is the best spiderman yet, I cant wait forthe 4th movie.Like i said the affects arent even comparible to the other spidermans. This is my favorite movie ever! Spiderman 3 waswas released may 4th with a rating of pg-13. It got this rating because of intense action violence. The movie lasted about two hours long.
I would probably reccomend this movie to anyone who likes the other spidermen. If you havent seen them, then if you like action you would love it!
Ok.......2007-06-12
I bought the special edition as well. The new scenes are cool. I wish they came out with this first.

Fans of the stylized Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and their subsequent feature-length releases (Batman: Mask of the Phantasm) will be pleased to note that the same creative team responsible for those efforts have reunited for this action-filled adventure, which pits the Dark Knight against a fetching vigilante in Bat-gear. Kyra Sedgwick voices Batwoman, whose struggle to bring down the Penguin's illegal arms trade gets her in hot water with his hired muscle, Bane (Hector Elizondo), and prompts Batman (Kevin Conroy) to swing into action. Curt Geda's fast-paced, noir-influenced direction, a solid script by Michael Reaves that stays true to the comic book mythos, and a talented voice cast (which includes Kelly Ripa and David Ogden Stiers) help make Batwoman a welcome addition to the Batman DVD library. The Warner DVD's 45 minutes of extras include an original short ("Chase Me"), nine character bios, behind-the-scenes footage, an interview with Geda, and other audience-pleasing supplements. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-09-06
A great movie for a Batman: The Animated Series fan (like me). The plot is clearly consistent with the rest of the series and the story of this 'movie' is excellent. Almost as good as Mask of the Phantasm, worth every penny.
One side note, is it just me, or is a 30-odd-year-old Bruce Wayne picking up a 15-year-old kid in this movie? I guess that's just an artifact of the animation style, but I found it a bit creepy.
Decent Movie That Keeps You Guessing.......2007-08-31
The movie was pretty decent and it keeps you guessing who batwoman is, with a big surprise in the end. great movie to own.
An adequate, just short of great, valentine to the B:TAS fans.........2007-08-29
I finally got to see this direct-to-DVD release. Fans will recognize it as not just another Batman cartoon, but a near feature-length release from the team that brought the superior Batman: The Animated Series to the small screen in the 90's (quick swipe: not to be confused with the atrocious "The Batman" cartoon that currently airs).
This DVD features the animations & character designs from the last season of B:TAS (aka "Gotham Knights")---Batman is in grey and black. Robin is Tim Drake. The Penguin is a "legitimate" businessman. I liked this incarnation probably the best for some reason and was glad to see it continued here, but they changed the voices for both Robin and Penguin, and it's jolting. Of course, Kevin Conroy is still Batman, which is the most essential aspect I suppose.
This little film is fun, heavy on action. The actual Mystery of The Batwoman may or may not keep you guessing. Bane even shows up to bedevil Batman, which to me is always welcome.
My question is: why can't this team assemble to give us one of these animated flicks every couple of years (this is from what, 2003?) I'm really greedy for more B:TAS goodness. After you check this out, you'll see why. Light years more sophisticated than the average kiddie fare, just like the show was.
Batman - Mystery of the Batwoman (Keepcase).......2007-08-16
I never received this product! Never buy anything from the infocaimon people on here. They suck with their customer service and try to play games on how and when an item should be shipped.
Some Good Stuff..........2007-05-26
Alot more girly than you'd expect, but hey, it is Batwoman after all. She wears a silver and pink suit. Not exactly the best colors. But anyway, this is a great movie. Not epic, but I think what brought it from 4 stars to 5 stars is the addition of Bane. Bane is a great Batman villain. Spoilers: He beat the snot outta' Batman. It was great. What's up with Babs and Bruce?? Well if you watched the Batman Beyond series you know they had a relationship behind the scenes. But that's only hinted at in this. I think Batwoman, or should I say the Batwomans, were cool. Their stories were nice to. But I still think Bane put the icing on the cake, or else I woulda'gave this a 4. Still good though. But wait, that short film 'Chase Me' was great.I think it was Hilarious at the end when Catwoman, thinking Batman finally gave in to her seduction, really was only a distraction so he could cuff her...or was it? Bruce's look at the end may make you think different. Though not the greatest Batman Animated Movie, still some good stuff. Pick it up.

Animation studio Pixar (creators of Finding Nemo and Toy Story) reigns supreme: The Incredibles is another stunning example of their inspired storytelling and technical prowess. In a world where superheroes have been outlawed, the former Mr. Incredible (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) struggle to raise a family (with a teenager daughter who turns invisible and a super-speedy boy) while keeping their powers under wraps--but into their lives comes a supervillain with a particular grudge against Mr. Incredible. The Incredibles mixes comic book battles with middle-age crisis to daffy, delightful effect. Not only is the movie a dazzling visual experience, but the same care Pixar and writer/director Brad Bird (The Iron Giant) pay to visual details gets applied to the narrative as well. It's deeply satifying to see a movie where every turn of plot has been given as much attention as the blazing explosions. --Bret Fetzer

The Incredibles.......2007-08-10
this movie goes with my starting collection of umd movies and was delivered as promised
what else do you want from a movie?.......2007-04-07
my grand children liked it, my son liked it, and i like it.
This movie is entertaining, funny, clever, intelligent, well voiced, and well animated.
i am a 64 year old man who has been loving movies since starting with cinderella, fantasia, ivanhoe, shane, treasure island, miracle worker, high noon, to kill a mockingbird, ivan the terrible, strangers on a train, (don't) shoot the piano player, irma la douce, diabolique, casablanca, singin' in the rain, sullivan's travels, witness, seven samurai, yojimbo, david copperfield, 39 steps, amadeus, chariots of fire, deer hunter, good morning vietnam, mississippi burning, true believer, real genius, tootsie, (malcolm) X, philadelphia, gladiator, the american president, don juan de marco, cars, .....
i am puzzled by people who denigrate an enjoyable movie like this, but evidently most do not.
to find a stupid movie watch a mel gibson or bruce willis movie, not this one. ( I enjoy those too, even if they are uninteligent. E.g anyone who thinks the battle of stirling bridge was fought in an open field and won by mooning the opposition can enjoy a mel gibson movie.)
Incredibly stupid.......2006-10-27
The Incredibles is a totally stupid animated film. The story is stupid, the voiceover stupid, the whole thing stupid.
AN ANIMATED FAMILY OF X-MEN -- COMPLETE WITH SPANDEX.......2005-12-14
AN ANIMATED FAMILY OF X-MEN -- COMPLETE WITH SPANDEX & IT ALL TURNS OUT PRETTY - - WELL - - INCREDIBLE:
Pixar and Disney have made six exceptional films together, but I find myself reaching for this one almost every time.
Needless to say, superhero films are no longer novelties, yet this film seems to have new angles on seemingly cliched themes. The lawsuits that put the "Supers" out of business is certainly a real gem and it gives Brad Bird who wrote and directed "The Incredibles" some unexplored avenues to try, which he does and it turned out, well - - PRETTY INCREDIBLE!
WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT:
First we have the husband and wife superhero team that never has a chance to team up as "Supers" and instead turns into Mr. & Mrs. Average American after the lawsuits that ended the "Supers" crime fighting dynasty. Along the way they had three very different yet "Super" offspring! Wow, that's enough right there to keep us busy.
We also have sub-plots which include each one of the 3 children's coming of age in a "Super" way, but as ordinary kids. The kids, like their parents, struggle all the way through the film to get to where they go and they grow in the process individually and as a family.
We have Bob Parr [Mr. Incredible] going through what appears to be a mid-life crisis, and his confused wife, Helen, who just wants them all to fit in like everybody else. But, after all, how can "Elastigirl" be just another soccer mom? We have the return of a hostile and dysfunctional former fan [Buddy] who turns "The Incredibles" lives upside-down and inside-out. For the first time, the "Supers" are the underdogs!
EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS - SATISFYING FAMILY ISSUES & MUCH MORE:
After these elements are set into motion, we have EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS, and it is fascinating to see all the Incredibles' family issues worked out like any other family's, but with many interesting twists. "The Incredibles" is a SUPER film!
DVD FEATURES: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.39:1 [very widescreen] Digital to Digital Transfer is the sharpest I have seen yet!
Lots of features and deleted scenes as well as some early concepts for different ways of introducing the characters make me grateful they made it the way they did.
The "Jack-Jack Attack" is probably the high point of the features and illustrates what we did not see going on between "Jack-Jack" and the baby-sitter. I just wish it was longer. The behind the scenes "Featurettes" are worth watching as are the blooper scenes, though they seem a bit contrived.
There are two commentary tracks, one with Brad Bird [writer/director] and John Walker [producer]. and another with the animators. I could not watch the entire movie with either track on. Maybe you can. The files about the "Supers" are interesting. There is lots more. If you like to go in for it, you can spend the day with the features alone.
For me, however, there is the film. This is the best animated film, in my opinion, and is perfect for all members of the family (of all ages) to connect with in a fun-filled, family sort of way.
a big time marvel rip off.......2005-05-27
well, this family is in the fedreal witness relocation program hiding out due to their super powers.theres the dad who has super strength like the thing from the fantastic four.his wife has powers much like those of mr fantastic from the ff.she stretches and stuff.the daughter can create invisible shields a lot like the invisible girl from the ff.the son runs really fast like quicksilverv from .........hahaha....the x-men.but,oh well,i guess theres only so many super powers to go around.the dad secretly goes about helping out anyhow and the ol lady finds out.of course she intervenes and makes everything way worse.the kids even get involved.the characters and the portrayal of thier unique abilities is done fantasticly.[hahaha].the part i liked was the super fast son, zipping through the jungle to escape the bad guys.i know that does it little justice but its the best part.trust me.its really cool for the kiddies and is thankfully free from the poop, fart, and puke humor the kid movies are so prone to these days.

KILLER FILM!.......2007-02-06
If you enjoy beautiful asian women, action, and as good as Hollywood filmmaking... this film is for you! A breath of fresh air. A ton of fun without going cheese. The acting was surprisingly right on the money. Get this movie if you like Seagal, Van Damme, Bruce Lee, etc., but without much of the sympathy, vengeance filled plots that are the same ol' same ol'. Chinawood is here to stay.
Half Amazing.......2006-11-08
Like most other reviewers have stated Silver Hawk is a entertaining movie with great stunts and fight sequences but with a weak story. The movie is about woman (Michelle Yeoh) who leads a double life, by day she is a popular model and by night she is Silver Hawk, a vigilante feared by most criminals. The story gets in gear when Yeoh must save a man who was kidnapped by some crazy villain. The man invented an Artificial Intelligence program that he intends to use for good but his nappers want it to take over the world. Now already the movie sounds like a comic book cliché and trust me it is in every way but somehow Michelle was talented enough to keep interest in the movie until the very end. I knew Michelle had skills but man she really killed this movie, the fight choreography was amazing and the stunts were also nice. One notable scene is when Silver Hawk is in the middle of a warehouse full of guys hanging from the sealing on bungee cords trying to hit her from every direction. Sounds like Tomb Raider but I like this bungee scene a lot more. Basically the best way to put it is Silver Hawk is worth seeing but only for its great fight and action scenes because at the end it's the only thing you'll remember.
Silver Hawk is a decent film but Michelle Yeoh is reason enough to see this........2006-10-19
I've been always fascinating with Asian action movies. So when I spotted this, I had to check it out. This was a good action movie, with several nifty fights and some funny parts. In this movie, Michelle Yeoh plays Lulu Wong, a much-idolised rock star and philanthropist by day, and a super heroine, Silver Hawk, who fights injustice with her skin-tight black leather outfit as her alter-ego. Richie Ren plays police detective Richman, who has an uncanny instinct and incredible wit, but he hates Silver Hawk for being always two steps ahead of the police. Both of them, however join hands to fight a baddie, Wolfe (Luke Goss) who wants to dominate the world through a special microchip in mobile phones, which will broadcast subliminal message to users.
Directed by cinematographer-turned-director Jingle Ma (Hot War, Tokyo Raiders, Summer Holiday, Goodbye,Mr.Cool and Para Para Sakura), the action scenes are beautifully choreographed, especially the one where a group of bungee jumpers armed with hockey sticks attacking our heroine in an outdoor arena. The opening sequence is also great with Yeoh riding a motorcycle and jumping over the Great Wall of China. There's also ample use of CGI to enhance the action sequences throughout the movie. Although the script is straight forward, Ma succeeds in presenting the story in an entertaining way with constant flashbacks to the past when Lulu and Richman were studying at a Shaolin Temple. The two kids who play them are excellent, especially the boy.
Yeoh is great to watch and executes her fighting scenes with style and finesse. Her experience in martial arts helped tremendously. Providing comic relief is Brandon Chang, who plays a computer whiz kid who constantly pops up to annoy Richie Ren. Wolfe's role was downplayed. Instead his two assassins played by Bingbing Li and Michael Jai White (Universal Soldier: The Return and Spawn) got most of the action. Surprisingly, both of them had no dialogue in the movie.
Nonetheless, `Silver Hawk' is an entertaining enough with some good laughs and nice visual effects, but not to take seriously most of the time.
a sweet king fu action flic.......2006-07-13
I loved this movie! Maybe it is a feminist action flic-- it has great values. I was surprised by these reviews. Michelle Yeoh looks better than ever and her fighting is gorgeous. The movie has a bit of a campy feel to it, which I loved. Martial arts movies that take themselves too seriously can be so excruciating. There is a lot of kindness and tenderness in the movie. The characters are adorable in their deficiencies and even the bad guys have real love relationships. I don't think anybody is actually killed in the movie. Silverhawk is a great heroine, subversive and generous. I love it that she seems to have so much fun kickin a**-- do all crime fighters need to have such grim attitudes? And she has a fantastic superstar wardrobe.
Slightly painful to watch, but it had Michelle Yeoh and a panda!.......2006-04-01
Someone else said they were embarassed to see Michelle Yeoh in this film. I would have to agree. What's worse is that she produced it too(with her production company Mythical Films). I'm quite a fan of Michelle, and I love her movies, but this was indeed pretty painful to watch. I've always believed she was such a great actress, but the acting in this movie really suprised me: it was terrible. It was very forced, even Michelle's. I felt like I was watching a High School play where everybody had just learned how to memorize and read lines! I was shocked, because Michelle has done a great job in her other movies(see "Ah Kam", "Memoirs of a Geisha", and ESPECIALLY "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"), but this was just not good. Plus, if I have to hear the wonderful Michelle say a line like "Totally fab!!" again I'm going to pull my hair out.
Michelle herself did say that this was no award winner. It was a movie that you could watch without having to think(that's what she said!). I would have to agree with you there, Michelle. I think if I was 10 or 11 I would have enjoyed this a little more.
The stunts and fight scenes were okay. I've seen better. Michelle is like no other woman on this planet, however, when it comes to kicking ass and doing her own stunts. She is incredible and an absolute Legend. Anyway, back to the film...
The outfits Michelle wore were just...wow. Like someone else said, the cheese is laid on very thick. It's corny as all get out, and again, the stunts were nothing special. If you want to see Michelle really kicking ass, go for "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" or some of her Hong Kong classics like "The Heroic Trio" or "Wing Chun" or something of the sort.
The only saving grace to this film(other than the fact that Michelle was in fact in it) were the two children who played young Lulu and young Richman. They were absolutely precious beyond words and did such a fantastic job! I wished the movie would have had more of them in it, because I think it would have been better! The panda was pretty cute too, although it only appeared for a brief minute or so at the beginning of the movie.
Was it worth the $7 that I spent on Ebay to buy this? Probably not, but as a fan of Michelle I feel compelled to watch as many of her movies as I can, even the crappy ones. This would probably be one of those decent movies to watch when you're watching it with a bunch of friends and you feel like poking fun at it and making sarcastic commentary.

Description
The Dark Knight is back in this all-new feature-length thriller featuring the voices of Kelly Ripa (Live! With Regis and Kelly), Kyra Sedgwick (Born on the Fourth of July) and Hector Elizondo (The Princess Diaries). The Penguin and Rupert Thorn are criminal cohorts with a scheme to sell illegal weapons? But there's a new super hero in Gotham City who has other plans for the evil entrepreneurs - Batwoman! With high-tech gadgets and powerful punches, Batwoman proves to be a formidable crimefighter - the only problem is that the Dark Knight has no clue who she is! And when Batwoman crosses the criminal line, Batman must identify whether or not this new player is really an ally! Join the world's greatest detective in this exciting new adventure that will keep you guessing until the mask is pulled off! The DVD includes an exclusive Batman animated short, "Chase Me" from the Emmy(R) Award winning writers Alan Burnett and Paul Dini.
Pick it up.
