"Apoplectic" is the word to describe Lewis Black's 2006 engagement at Washington DC's Warner Theater. There's eye-crossing, teeth-gnashing, raspy-voiced yelling, and liberal use of the f-word. (As Black reveals, the Kennedy Center refused their facilities on the grounds that he used the word 42 times in his first hour-long HBO special.) Then again, George W. Bush's second term has given the comedian much to be apoplectic about--Dick Cheney's hunting mishap, airport (in)security, the president's support of creationism, and the inanity of 24-hour cable news. At one point, he admits, "I just can't keep up with all the...stuff," although that isn't his exact phrase. Lest potential viewers think Black (The Daily Show, Black on Broadway) is nothing but a blue state apologist, he makes his distaste for John Kerry clear, i.e. "The fact of the matter is for the Democrats not to be able to find somebody who could've defeated George Bush is beyond belief--it's stunning." Black also explores misconceptions about Judaism, the media obsession with Terry Schiavo, and myths about the "homosexual agenda," which is to say: there isn't one. A few too many excretory jokes aside, Black otherwise makes good points and produces hearty laughs--some from his proud parents, who are part of the audience. As for the extras, they're brief, but amusing, and English is the only audio option. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Black on the loose.......2007-08-13
This is a really nice DVD of Lewis Black...It is just like seeing him in concert. New material and growing all the time. If you are a Lewis Black fan, then you need this DVD.
Lewis Black Strikes Again.......2007-08-11
Once again Lewis Black brings his great humor to current events. I lived in DC when this performance was taped. I couldn't get tickets. He sold out in minutes. That is quite a testament to his popularity!!
More serious than expected!.......2007-07-03
I expected Lewis Black to be more out of control and raucous like he usually is, but he was more serious than expected, although he was still funny. Received DVD on time and in good shape but next time will seek out earlier, more raw Lewis Black.
This man is worthy of worship.......2007-06-25
In today's world, to see a man stand up and make these proud assertions on the side of all the races, orientations, and side-groups that he's not actually a member of, makes him wonderful. Not enough Americans stand up and speak out for the rights of those they aren't a part of. More need to.
Everything about his act I think voices liberal America to a tee, and puts salt into the gaping wounds of the conservative agenda, the holes in their ideas that they refuse to see. Team this man up with Margaret Cho, and you've got Cheney and Bush, Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly, running scared and screaming for their mommies.
Not as good as 'Broadway'.......2007-06-10
As soon as the first 10 minutes rolled by, I knew this DVD would not be as good as his 'Black on Broadway' show. I was laughing so hard my tummy hurt watching that one. This DVD though has some good laughs in it...especially towards the end.

Screwed was another nail in the coffin of former Saturday Night Live wisecracker Norm MacDonald, following his dismal previous film, Dirty Work. However, while Screwed isn't particularly funny (the jokes about dentures, dog poop, and dead bodies are pretty much as old as the hills), the plot exerts a perverse interest; for most of the movie, it's genuinely unpredictable. MacDonald plays Willard, the butler-chauffer, all-purpose flunky of Mrs. Crock, the wealthy, penny-pinching owner of a pastry company. Fed up with her abuse, Willard and his friend Rusty (David Chappelle from Blue Streak and 200 Cigarettes) connive to kidnap her dog Muffin. But Muffin escapes and returns home; the ransom note is assumed to be for Willard himself. Rusty and Willard run with the idea, sending in a videotape of himself being held prisoner. When a detective starts getting a little too close, they panic and decide to fake Willard's death... Okay, none of it makes much sense, but in a world of ridiculously formulaic movies that slavishly follow every screenwriting cliché, Screwed seems like a brief oasis of narrative invention. Of course, it still isn't funny. And by the end, it's lost whatever spark of imagination that got it started. Too bad. It's written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the screenwriters responsible for Problem Child, but also for Ed Wood and The People vs. Larry Flynt--they should stick to biographies. --Bret Fetzer

Slight edge over Dirty Work.......2007-04-06
Hilarious movie for anyone who loves Chappelle and McDonald. The old lady makes the movie though, perfect casting ther.e ;) ENJOY!
One of those films that's so stupid it's actually pretty funny!.......2007-03-12
Anyone who's ever worked for a tyrant should be able to appreciate this film. Norm McDonald plays a much abused 2nd generation servant for Ms. Crock, a mean old pie baroness. Dave Chapelle plays his equally dimwitted friend. Together these two bufoons concoct the idea to kidnap Ms. Crock's beloved dog. The plan goes awry and people think that her servant, Norm McDonald has been kidnapped. Chapelle and McDonald have to adapt to their scheme to convince Ms. Crock, who really couldn't care less, to pay the same ransom for a human. Things continue to go wrong and it's one hilarious blunder after another.
This is basically a very fun movie and I would recommend it for young children if not for some of the sexual references. I also think some female senior citizens might take umbrage at the copious use of derogatory appellatives such as: hag, prune, crone, etc.
dumb humor.......2007-01-25
but wirth the $4.00 I paid for it. I collect movies from 90's SNL stars so this was a must have for me
Not What I Expected..........2007-01-12
With the line up of funny guys in this movie I expected to be laughing all the way through. Well, it didn't turn out to be as funny as I thought. I think I laughed ONE time, when Danny Devito's character noticed all the wanted signs with his face on them....that was it as far as laugh out loud funny in my opinion. Norm McDonald is not at his comedic best in this movie. Rent it don't buy it is my best advice!
Some funny moments, but disappointing.......2006-02-05
Norm MacDonald plays Willard Fillmore, the lifelong manservant of Virginia Crock. Miss Crock owns a baking company, is extremely rich, and mistreats Willard in almost every way possible. Willard is willing to put up with it until he finds out Miss Crock is planning on firing him, and he decides to get together with his buddy, Rusty P. Hayes, played by Dave Chappelle, and kidnap her dog, Muffin. Well, the kidnapping goes awry and Willard ends up "kidnapping himself." From that point, in their quest to get the 5 million dollar ransom, Willard and Rusty meet up with Grover Cleaver, a worker a the local morgue, played by Danny DeVito in a disgusting role.
Screwed has quite a few extremely funny moments. Namely the fake kidnapping videotape that Willard and Rusty make at the local store. I think that Norm MacDonald is one of, if not THE, worst actors I have ever seen. That is why I love his movies. Dirty Work is one of my all-time favorites. Unfortunately, Screwed does not meet Dirty Work in the humor category. That is probably because the film is more dependent on the whole kidnapping story, whereas Dirty Work was pretty much just a vehicle for Norm to run with his role however he wanted to. I would recommend this movie for Norm fans, and also fans of Dave Chappelle. His role is limited, but he is still hilarious when on screen.

"Asano is something of a director's fantasy; he can look tough and threatening or sensitive and delicate in equal measure." - INTERVIEW
THE ULTIMATE JAPANESE CULT FILM!
What do you get when you bring together the King of Cult Movie Directors, the King of Underground Comic Books and the King of Independent Cinema? You get SCREWED! Long considered the primary force in the cinema of transgression, Director Teruo Ishii serves up a fever dream of psychedelic sexuality and hyperbolic insanity that could only come from the mind of Japanese Manga God Yoshiharu Tsuge. Tadanobu Asano (Ichi The Killer) stars in this sexy, bizarre, and hypnotic adaptation of Neji-shiki (Wind-Up Type) that helped establish his position in the firmament of Asian and global cinema.
PANIK HOUSE is proud to present SCREWED in a newly restored edition of the unedited director's cut. You have been warned!

Customer Reviews:
More like 'Loser'.......2007-01-24
I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting, but, either way, didn't get it. The movie opens up with a kind of weird fever dream full of naked people on a beach, which leads to... a very ordinary story about a young man whose life is falling apart, and who has absolutely no idea how to cope with it. A few of his failures are poignant, a few just pathetic, and yet his basic issue - detachment - ensures he stays at an arms length from the audience. You have a guy in a very slow, dull downward spiral with zero hope for redemption (or even an understanding of the concept) and horrible people skills, and then the inevitable triumphs.
Basically, if you're looking for sex (sure, there's some topless women, but nothing you wouldn't see in any R-rated American movie), violence or wacky hijinks, this isn't it. There's a few odd moments of strangeness (the entire hospital scene and the oddly-predictable ending), but they're just temporary segues from the basic, depressing core of the tale. If you're looking for a somewhat strange "this is where homeless people come from" message-movie, though, it works (a little).
