Dave Foley plays a shallow, self-absorbed, and really, really stupid corporate executive who hits the lonely road as a clueless fugitive running from a murder he didn't commit. In fact, despite his best efforts to incriminate himself, he's not even a suspect. Not that you could convince him of that. The Wrong Guy is a slow starter--Foley's obsequious idiot is not a particularly likeable chap--but once he falls for narcoleptic small-town sweetie Jennifer Tilly (who has surprisingly good chemistry with Foley) the film slows to his lazy comic pace and the laughs start to come. Colm Feore costars as the stone cold killer who pegs Foley's slack-jawed half-wit as a cunning master detective dogging his trail. As you can see this is hardly sophisticated stuff, but fans of Foley's understated reactions to absurd situations will get a kick out of this utter silliness. --Sean Axmaker

Description

Comic sensation Dave Foley (TV's NEWS RADIO, ON THE LINE) hands over a hilarious performance as Nelson Hibbert, a bungling executive furious over missing a "promised" promotion. Confronting his boss on the matter, he finds him murdered. Panicking, tripping and screaming his way out of the office, Nelson, covered in "evidence," is sure he'll be pinned with the deed -- even though video proves who-really- dunit. The getaway scheme's a scream as Hibbert crosses paths with the ruthless killer and clumsy cops. A series of on-the-lam mishaps and outrageous misfortunes finally lead him to coy cutie Lynn (Jennifer Tilly, MONSTERS, INC., THE CREW, who convinces him he's the right guy to put the wacky disaster to rest.

5 out of 5 stars Dave Foley - Funniest Canadian...Ever!.......2007-05-22

Dave has a good, paranoid time where ever he goes while running from the law in a case of mistaken (?) identity. The memories that flood back from the sombrerro picture...ahhh. If you like Dave (even a little bit) you will love this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Tiny's...The ULTIMATE in miniature golf...........2007-04-19

I gave this movie top rating for two reasons: Colm Feore and David Anthony Higgins.

Foley is cute though not consistently funny (some of his material felt a bit forced to me, ) however, there were many laugh-out-loud scenes that nearly had me strangled ( feeding on forest food, jumping the train, getting water at the filling station, ALL interactions with the Killer, and many more..) His fugitive flight puts him into contact with several off-key characters, and the poor guy keeps running into one piece of bad luck or bad timing again and again. For the life of me I kept thinking, " That's exactly MY luck.." ( mine and all the OTHER "ordinary guys" out there...) Joe Flaherty's character of the bank owner shares the same fate as George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life (with slight comic variations,) and Jennifer Tilley is adorable and alluring as ever as Foley's narcoleptic girlfriend.

Higgins' romp through the states using the FBI's "unlimited resources" is hilarious. ( If the name does not ring a bell, you may remember him from the old "Ellen" show - he worked at the book store's coffee shop, Cup-a-Joe's, and served more comic relief than lattes.) He tracks his fugitive through some of the country's best restaurants, strip clubs and Musical revues, ( ! ) while maintaining the integrity of his investigation.

The real scene stealer though is Colm. His Killer is brilliant. I loved the constant wardrobe changes( best scene? the surgeon ) and the magical coincidences that kept bringing him into contact with Foley. His Killer is single-minded, militant in his mission, and seemingly superhuman, ( some of the Killer's escapes are very John Woo, but...soooo funny ) It is hard to explain but there is a humor about this character that is hard to ignore and impossible not to love.. The best moments in the movie belong to Colm and his straight-faced delivery of some of its funniest lines...( after all the Killer puts himself through it is wonderfully ironic to hear him whine at the end " I fell on my keys!) There are dozens of scenes that I would love to talk about but I don't want to ruin the laughs for those who have not seen the flick.

I can't guarantee that everyone will find this movie as entertaining as some, but I CAN bet that if you buy it you will not feel badly that you did.

Best regards...

Watch out - make sure you are buying the widescreen version and not the so-called "fullscreen" version - I have submitted a product update and hopefully Amazon will fix this so nobody else gets stuck with a lousy "fullscreen" DVD unless they are stupid enough to prefer that.

5 out of 5 stars The Right Guys!.......2002-07-09

Hi, movie fans! If you like movies, watch this hilarious comedy! It stars Louie Anderson (of TV's Family Feud), and is about 5 guys who were cub scouts as kids that meet again for the 1st time since then, and go on a camping trip, chased by two men who were cub scouts along with 'em who steal their engine and 1 thinks it is just SMALL!, 3 killers (the leader played by John Goodman) who think they are the FBI, and a SQUIRREL, with lots of laughs along the way. The 5 stars names in the movie are all the same as their names in real life, and these guys were not the wrong guys, but the RIGHT guys to make this film a GREAT comedy! Filmed in 1987 and released in early 1988, this movie was very underrated. It was poor at the box office, but is very rich with me! Get it! It'll be rich with you 2!

5 out of 5 stars The Wrong Guys are the Right Guys!.......2002-03-26

When I first sat in front of the Tv to watch this, it was on a cable station and I just happend upon it by mistake. However, it turned out it was far from a mistake!! If your looking for a good laugh and a good, clean fun movie, than this is what your looking for. It's slapstick at it's best when these 5 friends reunite after years of seperation and pick up where they left off as kids. AS they set off on their final camping trip to redeem their last chance for a cub scout badge they missed out on as kids, they run in to a wild ride as they encounter an escaped convict on their travels and they are mistaken for FBI agents on his pursuit and hijinks ensue. The combination of comedic star power is wonderful....they compliment each other and feed off of one another to creat a hilarious movie. Not everyone would agree with me but this has to be one of my top 10 all time favorites for comedy.

5 out of 5 stars FUN ENTERTAINMENT.......2002-02-13

The Wrong Guys is just a fun movie. If you like slapstick, wrye humor and an improbable plot, this movie is for you. The cast of comics do their signature things and bring it all of seamlessly. It is a humorous look at the journey from boyhood to adult and back again.

1 out of 5 stars The absolute worst performance from a large group of stars.......2001-12-14

I find this film, right? And I'm thinking, "Hey! Look at all the famous people in it!! It's probably going to be really funny!" After enduring this film, I'm left wondering "What in the world was the director/scriptwriter/producer thinking?!?!?". Let me just give you the basic plotline here. Grown men want to play cub scouts (You can see the obvious opportunity for gags and jokes here, folks. Oh goodie!!). The movie contains all your favorite hodge-podge of camp mishaps (ax head flies off, tent peg bends, cot snaps up on someone, etc.) made all the more mind-numbingly stupid by the fact that you know what's going to happen about 5 minutes before they actually do. Combine that with the horrid "acting" abilities (I use the term loosely) of Louie Anderson (main character) and several "I-wish-I-could-do-standup" routines from Richard Lewis. Toss in a bad guy (John Goodman, the only redeeming performance in the movie) who can shoot a flagpole down at 300 yards, but can't hit ANY of seven (count them, seven) fully grown (and in Louie's case, fully overgrown) men floating on a raft not ten feet from him. And what do you have? (...)

Save you money for something more worthwhile. Like a pooper scooper.
