Mickey Mouse and his pals Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, Goofy, and Pete invite toddlers and preschoolers to join them in Mickey's clubhouse for some playtime fun and adventure that emphasizes teamwork and aides in the development of logic and math skills. In "Mickey's Treat," Mickey and his pals are dressing up in costumes to attend Big Pete's Halloween party--the only catch is they have to make their way along a candy corn path and through the foggy woods to get to the tower before the moon is full. Only by working together and using the appropriate "mousketools" can the group make it to Pete's party on time. "Goofy the Great" finds magician Goofy desperately in need of some practice before a big magic show. Luckily, he can count on Mickey and his friends for lots of encouragement and some counting and patterning help. In "Doctor Daisy, M.D.," Daisy works toward earning her pretend doctor sticker by seeing an office full of willing patients and curing their ills with a little help from her friends and some handy mousketools. Also included is a bonus episode "Little Einstein's Halloween" in which the Little Einsteins' preparations for their Halloween party take them to castles around the world. The episode features art by the Lumbourg brothers and music by Edvard Grieg. (Ages 2 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Get it. It's a good one!.......2007-09-14

My three year old loves it. I like that some of the episodes are ones that have been on T.V. THat way if they come on and she wants to watch it again, we're all set (we are a rare household without dvr, tevo, etc). It's the best one yet.

5 out of 5 stars Have a Mousekerrific Halloween!.......2007-09-12

"Put on your costume, grab your goody bag and join Mickey and his pals for spooktacular Halloween fun. Mouskeready, mousekeset...here we go! Everyone's invited to Big Pete's Halloween pary. But the gang needs to reach Trick-or-Treat Tower before the moon is full, or the gates will lock and the party will be over before it even starts.

Can they get through the foggy woods, past the Candy Corn Patch and over the drawbridge in time? With your help--and the right mouseketools--they just might make it!" -- From the back cover

My son wanted this DVD for Halloween and he seems to enjoy it! With the run time of 72 minutes, this DVD features three episodes: Mickey's Treat, Dr. Daisy, and Goofy the Great.

Arguably one of the best aspects to this DVD is the Little Einsteins bonus episode! "A Little Einstein's Halloween" is fantastic, following the kids around to famous castles as they trick-or-treat!

There are some DVD-ROM Games and Activities on this DVD, but my son hasn't accessed those yet (Spooky Clubhouse Cookbook and Creepy Clubhouse Character Stencils).

This full screen DVD also has French and Spanish tracks, as well as subtitles.

Highly recommended for benign Halloween fun!

4 out of 5 stars The bonus is a nice bonus........2007-09-03

What is great about this DVD, besides the Mickey Mouse Halloween episode, is that it has a bonus episode of Little Einstiens, Halloween.

4 out of 5 stars No new Mickey!.......2007-08-30

I give all the other dvd's for this wonderful show 5 stars, not just because I love the show (for me and my daughter!) but because each dvd had a new episode to make it more than worth purchasing. This one only gets 4 stars because all of the episodes are previously seen one. I had come to expect at least one new episode on these dvds. Silly me.

5 out of 5 stars Oh Boy!.......2007-08-30

Just received this DVD today and like Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt and Mickey Saves Santa, this one is great and my 2 year old son loves it. There are two other episodes on the DVD that we have seen on Playhouse Disney. There is the Dr. Daisy episode where Daisy tries to earn her pretend dr. sticker and there is the Magician Goofy episode where the gang helps Goofy practice his magic tricks for the magic show. We've seen these several times before but my son still loves to watch them. The Halloween episode is cute. I just wish they would release more! If your little one is a Mickey Mouse lover then he/she will love this one as well, there is no doubt!!

An irresistible concept meets computer-generated wonders in Night at the Museum, inspired by a 1993 children's book by Milan Trenc. Ben Stiller stars as Larry Daley, an underachieving inventor waiting for his ship to come in while getting evicted from one apartment after another for lack of funds. Larry's son needs some stability, so the well-meaning ne'er-do-well takes a job as night watchman at New York City's Museum of Natural History. What the soon-to-retire guards (Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs) don't tell him is that an ancient pharaoh's tablet in the museum causes everything on display to come to life at night. Thus, Larry meets representations of Teddy Roosevelt, Attila the Hun, fire-worshipping cavemen, and Roman Empire soldiers, and learns to cope with an excitable T-Rex and man-eating, ancient animals. The film might have left things at that, but an added story element gives Night at the Museum some extra urgency and excitement, especially for kids: Larry becomes responsible for keeping this nightly miracle going and preventing anything in the museum from dying due to exposure to sunrise. Computer effects, as well as wildly imaginative costumes and makeup, help make the film appeal to the 8-year-old in everyone. Director Shawn Levy (The Pink Panther) works with a hugely talented cast, including Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, Carla Gugino, and Steve Coogan. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Funny movie, pretty good transfer.......2007-09-14

Pretty entertaining and funny movie. Transfer in general is pretty good, a few artifacts are noted however.

Overall, I would buy it if you want a good laugh for the family.

4 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-09-11

This was a cute story and I loved the special effects. Robin Williams is a scream. My son loves this movie and we've watched it at least 10 times by now!

4 out of 5 stars A little corny but funny........2007-09-11

So I thought Robin Williams would be funnier in this film than expected but hey it was more about Ben Stiller so I guess that makes sense. Anyways it is a good comic relief if you are into something a tad bit corny but has somewhat clean humor to it. Nothing terrible. Makes for a good film night.

Amazon.com essential video

Halloween is as pure and undiluted as its title. In the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, a teenage baby sitter tries to survive a Halloween night of relentless terror, during which a knife-wielding maniac goes after the town's hormonally charged youths. Director John Carpenter takes this simple situation and orchestrates a superbly mounted symphony of horrors. It's a movie much scarier for its dark spaces and ominous camera movements than for its explicit bloodletting (which is actually minimal). Composed by Carpenter himself, the movie's freaky music sets the tone; and his script (cowritten with Debra Hill) is laced with references to other horror pictures, especially Psycho. The baby sitter is played by Jamie Lee Curtis, the real-life daughter of Psycho victim Janet Leigh; and the obsessed policeman played by Donald Pleasence is named Sam Loomis, after John Gavin's character in Psycho. In the end, though, Halloween stands on its own as an uncannily frightening experience--it's one of those movies that had audiences literally jumping out of their seats and shouting at the screen. ("No! Don't drop that knife!") Produced on a low budget, the picture turned a monster profit, and spawned many sequels, none of which approached the 1978 original. Curtis returned for two more installments: 1981's dismal Halloween II, which picked up the story the day after the unfortunate events, and 1998's occasionally gripping Halloween H20, which proved the former baby sitter was still haunted after 20 years. --Robert Horton

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars You can't kill damnation mister!.......2007-09-13

I have always been a fan of the Halloween movie series. The original was w/o a doubt a true classic and masterpiece!

I recently saw Rob Zombie's version and was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty good. The Halloween series is the only horror series that I believe had a good story line.

Was that the Boogeyman? As a matter fact it was.

5 out of 5 stars Who's the one that let Rob Zombie get his hands on THIS?! .......2007-09-09

Ah, that little Tommy Doyle. If only more people listened to him about the reality of the Boogeyman.

Who's the Boogeyman in this horror classic? Two words: Michael Myers. No, not the comedian. Someone better, someone more sick and sadistic.

Granted, this is a horror movie, with the occasional nudity. So what makes this stand out and become the building block of modern horror movies? The execution.

The story is well known. Myers kills his sister and is sent away to Smith Grove for fifteen years. Dr. Loomis has been treating him and is perplexed with Myers. "He hasn't said a word in fifteen years," Loomis professes. "...the devil's eyes."

Myers' is on a war path, taking out any pubescent and overly sexed up teen that is in his way. Why? To find his sister, Laurie Strode, played by the amazing Jamie Lee Curtis who can effortlessly command a stage.

What's great about this classic is that it doesn't rely on gore but the element of surprise. The fact that Myers is an enigma, with no actually reason to kill his prey. Is it for the hunt? Is it for the way he was treated as a child? We don't know, and quite frankly it is best we don't. Do we really want to sympathize with someone who just stabbed someone into a wall? No.

The movie is directed in a dim lighting as well, which adds more chills up and down the spine. The score is also timeless; a simple piano with each key the suspense picks up. A movie like Halloween is art in it's rarest form. It flows beautifully; the pace of the movie; the story; the suspense; and finally; the war between the two siblings.

It's not actually a "war." Just a slight slice around the arm, a coat hanger to an eye. But what's great is that it is left on a cliffhanger. Myers shot off a balcony only to be on the run for the sequel.

It was really a shame that Rob Zombie has ruined this classic. Turning his biological mother and father, who were decent human beings into a prostitute and a worthless couch potato was just insulting. Well, at least Myers has a new victim to kill...Zombie! And we have an awesome horror movie to cherish the moment in!

2 out of 5 stars Puts the Horror in HORRIABLE.......2007-09-07

"What??? He gave this classic masterpiece 2 stars?!?" Is that whats racing through your so called brain? This film has been heralded as great horror, but its nearly as stupid, boring, and insulting to one's intelligence as some of todays worse slasher movies. This original version of the movie, unlike the Excorcist, does not stand the test of time. And why is that? Well, i hear time and time again, that this movie is a such a great essential classic. Being essential and classic doesnt apparently mean its truly great, becouse the acting is very bad in this movie. The script is dumb and the characters arent interesting or likeable. Its not as annoying and insulting as something like Halloween:Ressurection. ( a zero star movie) but its certainly NOT the great film its touted to be. And we hear "CLASSIC MASTERPIECE" over and over again in the same sentence as the title. But i honestly feel the people caling it that are just stuck on the fact that its suppost to be this "great classic" and dont or refuse to see it for what it is...a B-movie. Maybe it got popular becouse of the fact that in the late 70s, a movie with a killer in a mask like that, killing kids and people with a butcher knife was kind of a fresh idea. But as a movie, you cant deny how poor it is. It might be a classic old horror movie that sparked lots of trends, but this is NOT deserving of the word " MASTERPIECE ". Thats a complete lie. But people and critics keep saying it and saying it, but their words dont have meaning becouse it doesnt match up with the movie. The genre of "HORROR/SLASHER" movies hasnt been the most respected or acclaimed genres out there, to say the least. And i suppose within the relm of the endless sea of stupid gore fest slasher films, this must be the Father of them all and so its reveared as such a 'great' thing. But if you see it as a film, its not very good, and you dont even have to be some purist film critic snob. Anyone can see that fact. The music, the resounding piano theme is memorable and is classic. The legend that has become Michael Myers through out the years has grown beyond the depiction found in the original film. Michael Myers is not very impressive at all in this movie. He sounds allmost like an ape, how he breathes through the mask. And he just seems like he is mentally handicapped more than he is psychotic. And the 'teens' in this movie all look like they are allmost 30, like they should be outta college or something. Not convincing AT ALL as highschool kids. But all that is just side complaints. The movie itself is just boring, and i had to force myself almost to watch it in its entirity and give it a proper chance before i made final judgment of it. The image of Michael Myers and his theme music is what is truly legendary and haunting to this day....Not this film. Despite the 'popular critics' view, the recently re-telling of the film, directed by Rob Zombie, titled "HALLOWEEN". is far more superior film, that brings actual weight and respect to that legendary killer...MICHAEL MYERS. Out of respect for John Carpenter and his original film, watch this original movie made in 1978. But FIRST, if you have a choice for which to see first, id say see the Rob Zombie re-telling of "HALLOWEEN", first, that is a deep, emotional, and truly horrific piece of work, that captures the sheer intensity of what became the legend of Michael Myers that rises above and beyond the original, while stil giving it much respect. Rob Zombie delivers something awesome that truly and finally lives up to such a haunting legend...something neither the orginal or ANY of the sequals have EVER done, nor could do. Im no fancy critic, but im giving this 2 and half stars...the half is for its originality at the time, with its theme and character.

5 out of 5 stars the REAL Halloween.......2007-09-02

I recently got back from the worst remake and probably movie ever made, Rob Zombie's Halloween. After about twenty minutes or so of that movie, I longed for this movie. Everything in this movie was perfect: The score, the actors and actresses, the setting seemed like a real home town, the gore was minuim but effective, and the story was good. There is no reason on Earth that anyone would hate this movie. If you prefer the other film over this classic, then you need to grow up.

5 out of 5 stars MICHAEL MYERS IS HALLOWEEN!!!.......2007-09-01

halloween was and still is the movie everyone remembers and still talks about. enough said, john carpenter made you cringe and always look behind you with this one. he made babysitters all over the world lock their doors and keep a constant eye looking out the window. he made the boogyman real. this is a masterpiece. i'm hooked on this psychotic killer who just never dies. you can't kill evil, it just keeps on coming. and jaimie lee curtis, her breakout role, made a name for herself, great actress she has mad skills. this film is different from todays films but it still manages to scare you. you don't want to be alone, because he'll find you.

Groundbreaking on several counts, not the least of which was an innovative use of animation and stereophonic sound, this ambitious Disney feature has lost nothing to time since its release in 1940. Classical music was interpreted by Disney animators, resulting in surreal fantasy and playful escapism. Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra provided the music for eight segments by the composers Tchaikovsky, Moussorgsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Ponchielli, Bach, Dukas, and Schubert. Not all the sequences were created equally, but a few are simply glorious, such as "Night on Bald Mountain," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," and "The Nutcracker Suite." The animation ranges from subtly delicate to fiercely bold. The screen bursts with color and action as creatures transmute and convention is thrust aside. The painstaking detail and saturated hues are unique to this film, unmatched even by more advanced technology. --Rochelle O'Gorman

5 out of 5 stars Best Disney Movie Ever!.......2007-07-19

I loved this movie as a child and it still holds my interest today. Its a wonderful masterpiece of music and animation. I am disappointed its not the actual "uncut" movie (see other reviewers reviews), but its still a great movie.

4 out of 5 stars fantasia.......2007-07-17

The Fantasia vhs movie played as good as new. It has been and will continue to be a family favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Fantasia is fantastic...........2007-07-15

I had the pleasure of seeing FANTASIA on the big screen, when I was a little girl. I was enchanted by the imagery and the beautiful classical music soundtrack, from the opening credits, all the way to the last sequence. This was Walt Disney's way of bringing classical music to the younger generations, the children who went to the movie theaters to see his cartoons. This presentation of cartoons with classical repertoire succeeds brilliantly on many levels. For starters, the imagery compliments the mood of the musical pieces.

Some of my favorite sequences include: Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with a look at the changing seasons, featuring animated fairies, fish, flowers, mushrooms, and leaves, Symphony No. 6 by Ludwig van Beethoven with a mythical ancient Grecian world of centaurs, centaurettes (a Disney studio creation), a pegasus and his family, the gods of Mount Olympus, fauns, cherubs and other creatures and characters of classical mythology, and the Ave Maria by Franz Schubert, with subtle sunlight and naturalistic color. I should mention that the sequence with Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky is a vision of hell. It features a wicked demon, whose likeness was based on the features of Bela Lugosi (yes, the original Dracula in the 1930s films). I was pretty scared, as an eight year old, when watching it. Keep that in mind when watching it with really small children.

My verdict? This film is a beautiful introduction to classical music, for young viewers, and compelling enough for more mature ones. This is a throwback to another time, before the age of computer-generated graphics, and you will appreciate the great lengths the animators took to hand-draw every cell in this beautiful film.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-04-04

While it is not plot based or known for a memorable and charming story, it is a wonder to watch. Music creates images in most of us, whether they be memories of something prior, or something conjured up from the sound. Fantasia is based on that idea. Listening to this classic music, set to such elegant and wonderful images is a treat. One of the best of it's kind. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars A child's memories.......2007-03-09

This is the first movie I remember seeing as a child. I was probably about 7 years old at the time. I've never forgotten it, and now, after 59 years, I'm viewing it again. It's just as wonderful as it was when I saw it the first time, although there are a couple of "bits" that I don't remember from my first viewing. It keeps me company during my treadmill walks. It does a wonderful job of helping me to pass the time. It's a beautiful combination of art and classical music.

Usually it might seem a tad unfair to begin a review by referring to the director's missis. But then the missis in question wouldn't usually be Madonna--a woman whose ability to reinvent herself several times before breakfast seems in marked contrast to that of hubby Guy Ritchie. Certainly, this follow-up to the filmmaker's breakthrough film--the high-energy, expletive-strewn cockney-gangster movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels--hardly breaks new ground being, well, another high-energy, expletive-strewn cockney-gangster movie. OK, so there are some differences. This time around our low-rent hoodlums are battling over dodgy fights and stolen diamonds rather than dodgy card games and stolen drugs. There has been some minor reshuffling of the cast too, with Sting and Dexter Fletcher making way for the more bankable Benicio Del Toro and Brad Pitt, the latter pretty much stealing the whole shebang as an incomprehensible Irish gypsy. And, sure, people who really, really liked Lock, Stock--or have the memory of a goldfish--will really, really like this. The suspicion lingers, however, that if the director doesn't do something very different next time around then his career may prove to be considerably shorter than that of his missis. --Clark Collis

3 out of 5 stars Snatch - Review.......2007-08-16

Director Guy Ritchie returns to London's mean streets, rife again with characters such as Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) and Franky Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro). Several interlocking plots revolve around a scramble for a stolen 86-karat diamond, an attempt to fix a boxing match and ... pigs. Brad Pitt is a standout as a bare-knuckles fighter who speaks a gypsy dialect nobody understands.

4 out of 5 stars rock 'em, sock 'em fun.......2007-08-13

This movie is a fast-paced, fun movie. If you have watched Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (Widescreen Edition) and liked it, you will enjoy this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Snatch.......2007-07-25

Guy Ritchie's kinetic, ultra-stylish heist film is an amalgam of all the best caper films, rolled out with a punk attitude and bristling Cockney accent. The plot is outrageous but loads of fun (wait until a certain dog swallows a squeaky toy), and the ensemble cast--Statham, Graham, Del Toro, Ford, and Serbedzija--may not all be household names, but their cocky, fiercely funny performances will stay etched in your mind. Nearly stealing the show is Pitt, playing a crooked bruiser whose Gaelic brogue is hilariously incomprehensible to everyone. "Snatch" this punchy, black-humored romp through London's criminal underbelly--before someone else does.

4 out of 5 stars Stealin' stones and Breakin' Bones.......2007-06-27

What a follow-up to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels!" It's the closest thing to a sequel without being one. Some say that "Snatch" is a poor follow up of Ritchie's first film, I say that this is an improvement on his signature style, an aggressive and a supercharged 21-gun salute to Britain film/filmmakers. The deftness displayed in this writer/director's pacing and editing is at times electrifying and sometimes simply beautiful. The soundtrack is not only superb and includes one of my personal favorite bands, Oasis, and is used to great comic effect as an poignant accompaniment to certain scenes.

In the vein of Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting, and Fight Club, Snatch is a gritty dance with the criminal element, revolving around a stolen 86-karat diamond that any good crook would give his right arm for. (And in one case, I mean that literally.)After a boggling series of double-crosses, triple-crosses, and multi-crosses, Snatch becomes a game of who will end up with the gem -- and how will they get it? Ritchie keeps us guessing at every turn, with Russians hiring mercenary crooks to steal the jewel, hit men sent to kill the mercenaries, mobsters trying to outwit the hit men, Jewish jewelers scheming to undermine the mobsters, a crazed bare-knuckled boxer looking for his payday despite the chaos, and one dog who's lost his bark.

And every one of these stories is hilarious.

Vinnie Jones as Bullet Tooth Tony, a hunter/assassin who chills his prey with deadly stares; Benicio Del Toro (Traffic) is caught-in-the-middle robber/gambling addict; Dennis Farina, a stressed jeweler who can never catch a break; or any of two dozen other apt actors who fully own their roles. In the end, though, you have to give a hand to Brad Pitt, still buff from Fight Club, as a slur-mouthed Gypsy boxer who always manages to get one step ahead of the crowd.

"Snatch" is great. There are some funny lines, and some of the violence is quite inventive. Several times in this movie I was reminded of the "strange occurrences" theme seen in Magnolia. I wholeheartedly recommend this film if you haven't already snatch it.

5 out of 5 stars wish I would have seen this movie sooner........2007-06-21

Guy Ritche slid this one out a few years ago, and I missed it. A good cast including Jason Statham plays Turkish (the transporter, Crank) and Brad Pitt as mickey, the bare knuckle gypsy boxer. Essentially an Action Comedy. Turkish, a unlicenced boxing promoter, narrates the story as it revolves around and 84 carrot Diamond, and what eventually turns out to be a stuggle to try and save his own hide from Brick top, the underground promoter that "tells you what will happen". Its intriguing how thing and paths finally entertwine. Must see. If you like Lock, stock and two smoking barrels, this one I believe is better. And if You like Jason Statham, this movie is good as well. A good movie for any collection.

3 out of 5 stars Why not more stereo?.......2007-09-04

Been looking forward to a "Girl Crazy" DVD for years, but I'm disappointed that only one number will be issued in stereo. I recorded the film off the air years ago and replaced the soundtrack of all the numbers with the stereo versions from the Rhino CD, and it's amazing! Watching this film with all the numbers in stereo is really a joy - why couldn't WB Video have done the same thing and given us the option of watching it in stereo or mono? A big missed opportunity.

5 out of 5 stars Mickey Rooney & Judy Garland Collection.......2007-08-29

Mickey Rooney & Judy Garland are one of hollywood's winning pairing of two great stars. These musicals are very enjoyable to view. Great entertainment that will never be duplicated.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Finally.......2007-07-19

The first review was extremely thorough in your comments. One correction however, the first Mickey/July flick was actually "Thoroughbreds don't cry"

yes!. About time. The wonderful music in these films are worth it by themselves, Great actors in Mickey Rooney and Judy garland.
Great escapism from a serious world.
Wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars About Time.......2007-07-03

I too, have been waiting a long time for this. THANK YOU to follow-up reviewers for pointing out I was wrong about Mickey and Judy's first pairing. It was NOT "Love Finds Andy Hardy", it was "Thoroughbreds Don't Cry". I also second the reviewer who asks that the Hardy films need to be on DVD. Judy was only the best triple threat (dancer, singer, actor) in the history of the universe. HOWEVER, I stand by my assertion about her mother getting Judy hooked on pills. Sure the studio played a part, but her mother was the one feeding them to her.... Judy might still be alive.

Mickey and pals Donald Duck, Goofy, and Minnie Mouse share three adventures in Mickey Saves Santa, an engaging, computer-animated video that is mostly set within Mickey's Teletubbies-like dome of a home. The title story finds Mrs. Claus imploring Mickey's posse to help Santa down from Mistletoe Mountain, where he's stuck and can't deliver toys to all the children of the world. A second episode concerns a silly game of hide-and-seek, in which Donald proves a surprise master. Finally, Goofy needs help from Mickey in getting a lost baby bird back to its mother. The bright, chipper animation is full of little surprises, such as entire sections of Mickey's house that flip over, revealing sets beneath sets. Like Dora the Explorer, the action sometimes stops so Mickey can ask young viewers which of several "Mousketools" is the right one to complete a certain task. Bonus features include the "Hot Dog" dance-along and "Mickey's Picture Puzzle Game," in which kids can help unscramble a mixed-up picture. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars SO CUTE! .......2007-02-08

This is such a cute DVD for those little Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fans! My daughter recently started watching this show on Disney and loves it. I purchased this for Christmas for her and it really held her attention with the catchy songs and animation. We are pleased with this purchase!

4 out of 5 stars Disney Product.......2007-01-27

Well done but I really think you should get more for your $$ It's really one new episode and a couple others that are on TV. This is the same for the Little Einstein movies.

I'll digress for a minute. Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse on TV show the same episodes over and over and over and over. Even my 3 year old is tired of them and kids love repetition. Time for some new material - he's been watching some different shows now.

5 out of 5 stars By now we have it MEMORIZED!.......2007-01-25

My two-year old granddaughter loves this movie so much, it is the first thing she asks for when she comes to visit. I am now searching on Amazon for more Mickey Mouse Clubhouse movies and find that there is a new one coming out in March. I will pre-order now as we have this one memorized and are ready for some new episodes. Keep them coming, Disney!

4 out of 5 stars More Mickey!.......2007-01-12

Since Mickey Mouse Clubhouse began on The Disney Channel, my daughter has been a huge fan. She likes this DVD and I think it's responsible for helping her get over her fear of Santa! Unfortunately, there are no more Mickey movies out there right now, so this has fallen by the wayside now that Christmas has passed. I wouldn't say the show or this movie are as educational as others out there, but for pure entertainment purposes, we like it. I would recommend it as a decent holiday movie that most kids would enjoy.

Stanley Kramer's sprawling 1963 comedy about a search for buried treasure by at least a dozen people--all played by well-known entertainers of their day--is the kind of mass comedy that Hollywood hasn't made in many years. (Another example from around the same time is Blake Edwards's The Great Race.) After a number of strangers (including Milton Berle, Jonathan Winters, Sid Caesar, Phil Silvers, and others) witness a dying stranger (Jimmy Durante) identify the location of hidden money, a conflict-ridden hunt begins, watched over carefully by a suspicious cop (Spencer Tracy). The ensuing two and a half hours of mayhem has its ups and downs--some bits and performers are certainly funnier than others. But Kramer, who is better known for socially conscious, serious cinema (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?), is in a mood for broad comic characterization, and some of his jokes are so intentionally obvious (Durante literally kicks a bucket when he dies), they'd have a place in Airplane! Watch for lots of cameo appearances, including Jerry Lewis (who had called Kramer and asked him why he hadn't been invited to participate). --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars This DVD is flwed.......2007-09-01

Like many of you, this is one of my favorite movies of all times. I bought the DVD a couple of years ago, and although it wasn't a 'perfect' copy, it was suitable for my needs. Missing was the overture, color timing, and a number a 'jittering scenes' probably due to the conversion to DVD process. The extra 'behind the scenes' feature is well worth the price of the DVD, however, if you are looking for perfection- you will not find it here. Last week, 8/25/07, Turner Classic Movies Cable Channel did present the "PERFECT" COPY. Why this copy didn't make it to the DVD, I would like to know. This had the overture, intermission & exit music- along with all of the extra scenes that had been chopped out of the movie years ago. Colors in the opening credits were vibrant and changes as when presented in the theater- and is in Wide Screen. And although this was shown on the Cinerama Screens, it was not filmed in Cinerama- but in Ultra-Panavision (which is a different film technology altogether). I 'DVR"ed this copy and plan to transfer it to a DVD soon. If you love this movies as an event, as much as I, make sure you DVR this movie the next time it's on Turner Classic Movies. This is the 2nd time I've seen it so they probably run it again. Please check out this link for more info- and scrool down to VERSIONS:

5 out of 5 stars Glad it's Mad.......2007-08-10

If it isn't already, this is certainly destined to be a cult film.

Some of my favorite scenes:

Jerry Lewis running over Spencer Tracy's hat. Lewis' facial expressions are a delight.

Phil Silvers waving bye-bye in the rear view mirror to Jonathan Winters
after ditching him in the desert.

Jonathan Winters wrecking the service station.

A heavily hung-over Jim Backus on the pool table as Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett try to revive him.

And of course, beatniks Dick Shawn and the dead-pan Barrie Chase shakin'
it up to the Shirelles' kooky lyrics:

"Got a baby who can give me 31 flavors,
and we like tutti-frutti best,
I call him Ice Cream Joe,
he is the most delicious boy I know,
everytime his tasty lips are kissing mine,
he gives me 31 flavors,
and we like tutti-frutti best,
I just love him so,
he's my confectionary Ice Cream Joe,
everytime I kiss him I feel mighty fine,
I love his 31 flavors,
and we like tutti-frutti best,
pineapple fruit - coconut and banana, some of the fruit,
chocolate too, and tell him right that when we kiss,
he give me 31 flavors,
and we like tutti-frutty best..."

A truly Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad scene. Gotta love it!

5 out of 5 stars It's a funny funny funny funny movie.......2007-08-09

Think of a huge ensemble of the major comics of the day, throw in Spencer Tracy (in his last - a comical - role), situations that defy the imagination and you've got a great comedy. Never a dull moment and you get to see where some of the greats of the genre came from.

5 out of 5 stars It's a Mad, Mad, Mad... It's a Must... !.......2007-08-04

Although there are a few excellent Comedies made in the fifties and sixties, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" is unbeatable, unforgettable and a remarkable movie production identifying the many traditional American life and family values besides those not so respectable ones. Behavior, Ambition, Consciousness, Cheat & Trick... they are all there. A very funny story made in a very intelligent way. Does it sound too serious? Couldn't be so easy and amusing, yet fast going with something new and unexpected at every second scene!
Undoubtless my favorite movie ever!

4 out of 5 stars Love the laughs, but I agree the format needs improvement.......2007-08-01

I agree with everyone here, this is one of the funniest movies ever made. I'm with the other guy who said there was originally 192 minutes in the 1963 premiere - and the aspect ratio was 2.76:1. I have never seen a video release that was ever done correctly, with this running length and aspect ratio. MGM, let's do a full-on correct release finally of this great classic, with every frame restored and packed with special features. Maybe even a featurette on Cinerama and the overall history of widescreen movies would be a good addition on Disc 2. Hey fellow fans, how do we get a letter-writing campaign started at MGM? It worked for Superman II!

Amazon.com essential video

From the sun-dappled heartland, a young man (Robert Redford, in soft lighting) emerges as maybe the best baseball player anybody's ever seen. On his way to the majors, he is cut down by an enigmatic black widow (Barbara Hershey) and vanishes for many years. When he reemerges, a silent mystery, he lands a spot with the New York team and begins tearing up the league--he's still the natural. Fans of the Bernard Malamud novel will be dismayed at the pure mythical hokum of this film, but baseball fanatics have been known to watch and rewatch this one; after all, it's constructed as a kind of shrine to the national pastime. Barry Levinson (Rain Man) directs the movie with an unabashed devotion to the game, although the film could use more of the realities of chewing tobacco and pine tar. Redford is fine, and Kim Basinger and Oscar-nominated Glenn Close are effective as the women in his life. The crowning touch is the soaring, extraordinary music by Randy Newman, the singer-songwriter turned orchestral composer. --Robert Horton

Amazon.com

Director Barry Levinson mentions in his video introduction the 1984 movie was rushed to theaters and this 2007 DVD is more the film he originally intended. This "director's cut" adds about 15 minutes of footage and deletes 5. It tightens the first third of the film, yet any fan of the lyrical prologue set in perfect synchronization with Randy Newman's score will be disappointed. Now the beginning is told in flashback as the elder Hobbs returns home. (It's also confusing to keep track of which Hobbs story you are watching when they are both on a train.) The changes do not improve the story or character; it simply packs in more information before Hobbs enters the Knight's dugout. After that, there are a few new scenes and many extensions, most involving Memo (Kim Basinger) and Red (Richard Farnsworth). None of the additions are exceptional. One could hope there is an Easter egg with the remastered original edition. What is on the second disc are above-average featurettes with interviews from most of the major talent. The best little ditties includes Newman's playful "lyrics" to his theme music and Levinson's divulgence that he is the radio play-by-play man. There's a good discussion on adapting (and changing) the novel, the allegorical myths, and the real-life inspirations including a heart-felt segment on Eddie Waitkus, a baseball player who was shot by an obsessed fan. A 5.1 Dolby soundtrack is now available and compliments an excellent video upgrade. --Doug Thomas
