This town drama from Ted Demme centers on former classmates coming together for their 10-year reunion. Scott Rosenberg's (Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead) script thoughtfully passes over the usual grumblings of young adults who can't believe they still live in the same snowbound town. They accept--even welcome--their blue-collar jobs, whether plowing snow or cutting hair. Willie (Timothy Hutton), the lone wanderer, returns to his listless house in a state of flux, the piano-bar circuit wearing thin as is his relationship with Tracy, a well-off attorney (Annabeth Gish). He isn't the only one with problems. Tommy (Matt Dillon) occasionally sleeps with his now-married high school sweetheart Darian (Lauren Holly) while the earnest Sharon (Mira Sorvino) is left to wait. Paul (another thickheaded role for Michael Rapaport) refuses to commit to Jan (Martha Plimpton) until it's too late. Paul is enamored with the idea of the supermodel (the title's "beautiful girls") that, he believes, can make life perfect. It's a very satisfying comedy, with some forced poignancy (Willie's description of Tracy as a "seven and a half" comes off as a death sentence). Rosie O'Donnell's dissertation on why Playboy and Penthouse have ruined males' expectations is much like Meg Ryan's orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally...: it's hilarious, even memorable, never wholly believable.
The two wild cards thrown into Beautiful Girls give the film its kick. Uma Thurman enters as the local barkeep's (Pruitt Taylor Vince) radiant cousin. From the big city, she can flirt with the awestruck guys and still keep her head. Willie's real emotional tug is from Marty, the precocious 13-year-old neighbor. If you didn't see Natalie Portman's sophisticated work in the The Professional, her performance here will come as a revelation. You deeply believe that Willie and Marty are connected despite their age difference. Their courtship will never come to be, but the way the two talk (and talk some more) about their lives is the most insightful part of Rosenberg's script. Everyone's so comfortable in his or her roles that you may truly feel sad when the film ends. --Doug Thomas

A comical and insightful jaunt.......2007-04-15
Beautiful Girls is a very light-hearted comedy about a small town class reunion. It does hover dangerously close to some dark, abstract notions that frequently threaten the overall good vibes. That makes the movie entertaining and realistic. Luckily it teeters on the positive side and never falters at any point.
It's directed by Ted Demme(Blow)and it won a CEC award for Best Screenplay. Its completely filled with clever dialogue. At times it might seem a little glib, but it covers its tracks with responses from it's characters, like when one says "you stay awake nights thinking up this (stuff)".
Many of the characters do fall into stereotypes, but this is inconsequential because it doesn't feel forced. Everyone has their odd little quirks that make them unusual and interesting.
Matt Dillon is great in a typecast role as the kinda shady womanizer. Michael Rappaport is awesome as his annoying buddy. Timothy Hutton is the one guy who realizes he doesn't need a drastic change. And a young Natalie Portman steals the show as the "little neighborhood Lolita".
There are many scenes with buddies drinking, saying stupid stuff, drooling over beautiful girls. Almost all the guy's dreams seem somewhat quixotic.
I think this is one of the most underrated comedies ever. I always feel better after watching it.
Willie C! Stay cool! Stay cool forever.......2007-04-11
One of the best and a collectible & worth watching the movie for just this part
"Supermodels are beautiful girls, Will. A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you've been drinking Jack and Coke all morning. Se can make you feel high with the single greatest commodity known to man--promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the gaze of a beautiful girl. In her smile, in her soul, how she makes every rotten little thing about life seem like it's going to be okay. The supermodels are bottled promise. A beautiful girl is all powerful, and that's as good as love"
This movie is just ok...........2007-02-01
Frankly, I bought this DVD only because Natalie Portman is in it. The movie has this prevailing forced quality to it: Ms.Portman's performance is good, but seeems forced(=unconvincing as 13 year old) The same goes for Uma Thurman(watch the dancing scean with Paul). The jokes and dialogues are funny, yet not really fresh even thouth it's not recycled materials. I think this is the director Ted Demme's first ensemble cast movie, and it kinda shows.
I beg to differ (a little).......2006-11-15
This is a fine film. The characters are older young adults, barely young enough to be able to characterize this as a "rite-of-passage" film. I disagree with those who suggest that the characters ultimately give up on the dreams of their youth and "settle" for an inevitable and dull adulthood. From my 58 year old vantage point, they are leaving their shallow and immature adolescence for the deeper and more meaningful commitments to mature, real (not mythologized) partners who love them for who they are. They are ready to embrace their lives both present and future and let go of the ever more distant and irrelevant past.
The Hutton character is certainly tempted by Thurman. Though he admires and cares for the 13 yr old Portman character, he is always aware that her desire for him will not be returned by him. He relates to her impatience to grow up, recognizes her puppylove feelings for him, but never considers abusing her affection for him.
This is a wonderful ensemble cast. Though more polished than its predecessor, this film reminds me of the early John Sayles film "Return Of The Secaucus Seven".
Willie and Marty.......2006-10-08
This movie is about the growing relationship between a surprised, smitten Willie and beautiful girl Marty. It's all we care about. Everything else is window dressing to these two.

This movie rings true!.......2007-09-10
I was lucky enough to preview a pre-production DVD and shared it with a friend who lived this life for years. She said it was spot-on and skewered every stereotype and cliche (and what is L.A. if not stereotypes and cliches?) of the Hollywood party scene. But so much of it is universal. The scene where they drive home the morning after, as the public is just beginning their day, really rang true with me, and I grew up in a city on the east coast. Watch for the very cool 1960's convertible!
EXCELLENT.......2007-08-28
I first saw this at the Hamptons Film Festival. I begged the producer for a copy of the film to show all my friends. I thought the movie was excellent and very well done. A must see!
Debauchery @ its finest.......2007-08-27
Totally one of a kind. Not a big budget, over-produced, concept comedy - but a great little adventure one night in Hollywood. We follow a handful of 20/30 somethings on a typical weekend night, all on the prowl to have a good time. There's the bitchy girls, the dorky guys, the punk rockers, the hipster boys, and the 80's rappers.... who all flow in and out of one another's storylines. There are trippy graphics/narration that reminds you of a government how-to guide from the 60's. We are taught how to get into a club, how to find a good house party, how to score drugs, why scoring drugs can lead to heart attacks, how to avoid that boy or girl that you really shouldn't hook up with, and generally how to navigate a successful night on the town.
The Freshest, Funkiest Party Flick Ever!.......2007-07-31
This movie is a must see! It's a crazy comedy like no other. Part satire poking fun at the L.A. Hipster bar scene and part party guide, the Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down is a fresh flick! Young, hip actors - awesome wirting and direction by paul sapiano - sweet graphics by [...]. Watch this movie!!
Possibly the best modern Party Movie of All-Time.......2007-07-24
I'm a total film nut and have seen just about every movie out there. I saw The Boys & Girls Guide to Getting Down several months ago at a special screening in Hollywood...
It totally blew me away. Raw, hillarious, true to the lifestyle. One of the best party films ever. Brilliantly directed and shot, some great unknown actors, and a clever narration vehicle to move the story forward at an upbeat pace. It's like I was watching a collection of the funniest stories from my nightlife experiences in LA. And honestly, for those green newbies to the LA scene...Very informative. Almost educational. You will probably never see this film in a major theatre, but great gem for the personal DVD collection. I'm def putting it on in the background next time we have a rager.
As an indie filmmaker myself, this is the kind of film that keeps me inspired.
Glad you guys finally got this bad boy to DVD.
Good Luck with the Film.

GGW does it right.......2007-07-18
I'm writing this mainly to raise the overall star value; I'd say it actually deserves four. I've only seen half a dozen GGW DVDs, but this is as good as any of the better ones. I recommend it! The only thing more exciting than seeing cute gals get partially/nearly naked is when they're smiling & laughing while doing so!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, NEVER BUY FROM GGW!.......2006-04-22
I bought a set of GGW videos a few months ago and I COMPLETELY regret it. This is the worst purchasing experience I've ever had. Many people have complained about the horrible customer service at GGW. In my case, I paid extra on my order for speedy delivery. The charge went against my credit card, so they got immediate payment from me. My videos were supposed to have been delivered within a couple days, but it wound up taking a couple MONTHS instead! And only after I complained did they finally deliver them. But they still didn't reimburse me for the extra expense I had paid for the speedy delivery that never happened. And if that isn't bad enough, for the last month these jerks have been calling me every day, several times a day. I get calls at home, I get calls at work. They called me three times just today. This is harrassment! I'm right now researching what my legal options are because their incessant phone calls are making me crazy. Can you imagine having to explain unsolicited calls you're receiving at work from GGW? Unless you want to go through the hell I'm being put through, do yourself a favor and please avoid these sorry jerks!

if you thought go-fish was bad.......2006-01-21
well then you haven't seen this!!! I saw this in a crowded art theater with quite a few other lesbians present. At one point the two main characters begin a dialogue about how they love each other. Trite enough in itself. Then one says to the other, "Well actually I don't always love you in fact sometimes I don't even like you." When finally my film going companion had enough and yelled out, "Well, I hate you both!" bringing the house down in a roar of laughter. She pretty much summed up my feeling. I hate this film. If you like bad movies and like to laugh at how stupid everyone can be then definitely watch this. Although it lacks the wonderful camp of showgirls. Which is another terrible film but at least its good-bad ya know? For a decent lesbian film When Night is Falling comes to mind or Bound for that matter.
Kinda cheesy, but enjoyable nonetheless.......2005-02-11
"Bar Girls" is an enjoyable little romantic comedy about an obsessive, incredibly funny cartoonist, Loretta, who is continually looking for that perfect significant other. When she actually finds her, she thinks it's too perfect and all her neurotic, but hilarious, self-sabotage tendencies kick in. Clever dialogue between Loretta and her best friend, tension-filled moments between Loretta and the film's stereotypical "bad girl", as well as tender moments of self-awareness make up for the film's obviously lacking depth. The intermittent scenes of Loretta's cartoon and the cartoon's heroine are hilarious! In all, "Bar Girls" is kinda cheesy, but an enjoyable 90-minutes nonetheless.
Glad I didn't buy it.......2004-08-05
I had thought about buying this DVD for a long time then it appeared on The Movie Channel, so I could see it for free. I almost couldn't stand to watch it even then. The acting is terrible and the situations between the women are even worse. I don't know why any of these characters would be considered attractive to anyone. If this is what is being used to represent lesbian culture, we're in worse shape than ever. Don't buy this. In fact, don't watch it.....even for free. Too bad I couldn't give it zero stars.
What I want to know is..........2004-08-02
what happened to the gorgeous, husky-voiced, luscious, deliciously dykey Camila Griggs who plays the agressive cop J.R. Now, she is hot. My "ultimate dream girl" fantasy to quote her character in the movie. You could cast her as the Xena uber in any of those fan inspired novels with no leap of imagination whatsoever. Someone should've starred her in her own lesbian indie. The woman has got to have a following. It was great to see a strong, totally believable (and very attractive) amazon gay woman portrayed for a change.
avoid it!.......2004-04-18
I was terribly disappointed by this film. The sound, screenplay, acting and direction are all terrible. Everything about it just screams low budget. It has the quality of a home video created in someone's basement. This is a film to avoid!

An O.K. Pro Am Wrestling movie.......2006-08-20
This truly is an alright movie about bar room wrestling, no real plot or story but good fun. Justin Whalin, main character, plays a teenage guy who works at a sports bar and wants to be a pro wrestler, so he can seek fortune, fame, and that one special girl. His partner, Zachary Thomas I think (the older kid from Home Improvement), wants it all as well and does what he can to put Justin in the spotlight. In order to do so he must defeat his rival and be trained by his idol and hero (Sasha Mitchell), you know Cody from the 90's sitcom Step By Step, that's how I will always see him. But the movie is OKAY for real, lots of T&A nudity and cheesy jokes, eye candy and wrestling BTS exposure. WRESTLING IS PREDETERMINED NOT A WAY TO SETTLE BEEF !? A must rent for indie underground wrestling fans, who dream of wrestling one day see where must wrestlers really start !!
Description
Raising a teenage daughter in Manhattan can be a scary proposition. For a single father in a mid-life crisis things are outright dicey. Hank (Kinney) has kept his private life mostly away from his teenage daughter Constance (Muth), who most of the time lives with her mother. When Constance's mother leaves the country for awhile, she moves in with her father and the two are in for a surprise. Constance is a beautiful mass of crazy contradictions, with eating habits careening between starvation and gorging. With her long, thin legs twisting like straws she tells dirty jokes and develops boy crushes almost daily. Hank, a successful war news photographer has hidden his work out of sight to protect his daughter just as he has kept his occasional girlfriends (Avital) stored in the closet as well. As their worlds collide amidst cosmic mood swings, the two rediscover their father-daughter relationship to realize that they like each other as much as they are alike.
Customer Reviews:
Pretty good.......2002-12-27
I watched this movie like last night on HBO, and I thought it was good. Unfortunately, I can't remember enough to give what would be a good review.
It's about a divorced father whose daughter lives with him, and stuff happens. He's a photojournalist that goes to war stricken areas, which seems to upset his daughter. She is thirteen years old, very emotional, somewhat weird (hmm...I think that's why I liked the movie, being 14 yrs old and all). He had been in a relationship for about a year, but had kept it a secret from his daughter.
Overall, good to watch.
Description
A man meets a woman in a bar and goes home with her for what he expects to be a night of wild sex. As they sit back to watch her home porno movies, the woman slips something in his drink and the man passes out. Hours later, he wakes to find himself strapped to a dentist chair and the woman and her accomplice hovering around him. An unrelenting film of true horror that poses disturbing questions that everyone has thought of at one time or another.
Customer Reviews:
Contrived and Confused. What a mess........2005-05-24
I had been hearing about this movie for years. It is often spoken of along side films such as "Henry: Portait of a Serial Killer," "Man Bites Dog," "I Stand Alone" "Funny Games," and other works of profoundly disturbing cinema. Being, Myself, a fan of such feel-bad films, I could not help but indulge my curiosity and give it a rent.
What a disappointment. I guess the first thing I want to point out is that this film is not scary or suspenseful or even the slightest bit psychologically disturbing. Not that it doesn't try. In fact, when one considers the basic premise of the movie (torture) and its content (scenes of torture), it becomes achingly apparent just how horribly it fails in its purpose.
You ask for particulars? The script is a meandering, self-conscious mess. Despite all the juvenile psycho-babble, "Boy Meets Girl" has absolutely no philosophy. If Brady was going for nihilism, he should have trimmed his talky script considerably.
Due to the clunky dialogue, it is hard to judge the actor's performances. There wasn't much any actor could have done to salvage this script.
The extra star is for some decent production values (for a low-budget) and for the attempt, however flawed, to do something provocative.
Fairly Wretched........2004-12-04
What begins as an interesting enough premise soon collapses - horribly so - under its own weight. The acting seems particularly amateurish - and an internet search turns up almost no acting credentials for anyone. It shows.
The extended scenes of torture grow weary. One can almost "smell" the desparation of the filmmakers and actors as they try to play a game of "one-upping" it with themselves - only to loose every round.
Anne Marie's performing surgery on Tevin - has to rank as one of the worst scenes ever filmed. Seriously. So-called "actress" Danielle Sanderson's miserable attempt at "over the top" is so underdone I almost nodded off.
Actually credit must be given to Tim Pool who agonizingly manages somehow to sustain the anguish of Tevin's terror and who manages- while strapped to a chair for most of the film's 93 minutes - to show us a broad range of emotion from initial "pissed of" through defiance, to helplessness to rage until he's utterly broken. Neither of the females come even remotely close to this level.
Some will find the subject matter disturbing (actually, everyone should) and there's a decent idea here, but this thing just sinks and has "stinker" written all over it.
Yucky.......2004-06-04
"Boy Meets Girl" came to me highly recommended by a fan of extreme horror movies. I figured I would give it a shot based solely on his opinion. Well, sometimes you hit it big when a pal gives you tip and sometimes you don't. This 1994 movie from British director Ray Brady falls somewhere in between. As I watched the dark scenes slowly unfold on the television screen, I couldn't help but draw a parallel to what I was seeing with what George Orwell described in his novel "1984." Remember when Winston went into that dreaded room that contained the darkest fears of each individual who went there? Remember how his persecutor tormented him so long and so horribly that he eventually modified his thinking to blindly accept whatever Big Brother wanted him to believe? When he actually begged his tormentor to put him out of his misery rather than endure another electric shock? That's essentially what happens in "Boy meets Girl." One of the extras on the disc is a commentary track from the director; I should have listened to it to see if he got his inspiration from Orwell's dystopian classic.
The film starts innocuously enough. A guy named Tevin (Tim Poole) meets a stunning French beauty, Anne Marie (Margot Steinberg) in a crowded bar. He strikes up a conversation that soon leads to the pair heading to her apartment for a nightcap and probably much more. After a bit of small talk at the apartment, the French gal offers her new boyfriend a drink to relax. The next thing Tevin knows, he's not feeling well at all and his conquest is hovering over him with concern. Flash forward through unconsciousness and Tevin finds himself waking up strapped into a dentist's chair in a very dark room. All types of unpleasant looking tools, including an innocent looking video camera, clutter the room. The French girl is here too, except she suddenly has no accent and seems to be quite upset with Tevin. This poor chap does what anyone would do in a similar situation: screams (no one can hear him), struggles futilely against his bonds, and tries to reason with his captor. All to no avail. She's not letting him go no matter what he does, although she occasionally dangles references to freedom in front of him just to torment him. What happens then is a real shocker.
Tevin's first tormentor disappears, replaced by another woman named Julia (Danielle Sanderson). This woman isn't as overtly dangerous as the first gal, at least not at first. She seems to exhibit real concern for Tevin's condition until he slowly begins to realize this is just another phase of the game. Then the tortures start, hideous tortures involving weird things like microwave ovens (didn't Paul Atreides in "Dune" undergo this test?) and things placed over the head. I won't go into detail about what Julia does to Tevin except to say the implications are decidedly unpleasant. Moreover, Julia likes to talk to Tevin, telling him how much of a jerk he is and how he deserves everything he gets. She reveals that she knows everything about his life and his job, all the bad things he's done to his family and friends. It's obvious this abduction has been planned out well in advance. This lady even has photographs of his family. As time progresses and Tevin grows weaker from the endless shocks to his system, Julia reveals what she's been doing in this little dark room for a long, long time. Can a woman be a serial killer? Apparently so in the world in which this movie is set. The conclusion, I almost hesitate to say because it should be so obvious, is not a pretty one.
"Boy Meets Girl" will probably leave a bad taste in your mouth. It's designed that way. The English film censors banned this film for over eight years due to the subject matter. I usually don't take too much stock in the British cinema police, though. Many of the films on the "video nasties" list are so tame it's laughable that any government could have defined them as subversive or too graphic. Brady's film probably does fit certain criteria, though. The dialogue, even more than the violence, is perverse and degrading. The philosophy of "Boy Meets Girl" is sickening too, a mix of the Marquis de Sade with a form of ultra feminism that any decent human being should find repellent. Brady mixes things up by switching perspectives frequently, from what the video camera in the torture chamber is showing back to film showing the whole room. Perhaps a not too subtle rumination on the public's love for violence shown in the media? Who knows, but I suspect someone like Aileen Wuornos would have loved this film.
The biggest problem I had with "Boy Meets Girl" was the picture quality on the DVD version. So much haze clouded the picture that I felt like I was watching a second-generation VHS dupe. Such a bad quality transfer is a real problem when most of the film takes place in a darkened room. Still, the movie is an interesting one even if it does feel highly derivative. Poole does a wonderful job as the terrified Tevin. Margot Steinberg and Danielle Sanderson both turn in strong performances as women willing to carry things over the edge. A nihilistic, cynical film destined to be a minor cult classic; "Boy Meets Girl" needs a decent picture transfer more than it needs a bigger distributor. Oh, trailers on the disc include one for "Flower of Flesh and Blood." That ought to tell you a bit more about what this film is like.
pure crap.......2004-06-03
This movie tried to be something. the touble is I don't think anyone knew or had any plan of what this movie was supposed to be about. Nothing happens in the movie. Maybe that would have been a good start. Have something happen in the movie. Put that as the first line. pure crap. I'd give it a zero!

Constant flashing at clubs.......2004-09-01
The "Girls Gone Wild" bus goes on tour looking for girls to flash their T&A. They mostly go to various clubs (bars...dance clubs) to find girls that are willing to pull up their top and show their stuff, or flash their thong, etc. You get your money's worth, I liked it. It's typical "Girls Gone Wild" stuff...find girls, ask them to flash to get a free T-shirt, and enjoy seeing the girls naked. I already bought Volumes I and II, and they were good, so now I will also buy Volumes III and IV.
I've seen some "Girls Gone Wild" movies that are better than this one, so I almost rated this movie 4 stars, but compared with what else is available from other companies, its still 5 stars.

Not Bad!.......2005-05-31
This movie was OK. It has it's moments were its funny and were it's corny. Slammed has a lot of faces people seen on TV and movies. so you can say it has a good cast of faces in acting, for a B-movie. Sasha Mitchell was the reason I got the movie He was cool in (step by step and in the Kickboxer movies)
he looks in top shape in this movie. The women in the movie
all look hot as hell from the playboy models to the girl from the VIP TV show. The acting is not all that good, but he movie is all right.
