Light years before political correctness--1983 to be exact--or his comeback in tame Disney comedies, Eddie Murphy was a charismatic, wonderfully offensive, egocentric 22-year-old black comedian known for crude celebrity impersonations and often shockingly frank diatribes on racial and sexual politics. Dressed in a skin-tight red leather suit and delivering endless streams of obscenities faster than Richard Pryor ever did, Murphy is captured in this raunchy HBO special (a filmed document of his Grammy-winning album, Eddie Murphy, Comedian) at his confident, swaggering, comedic peak--a posture that soon disappeared after a string of bland Hollywood comedies. Here, however, his energy and sheer virtuosity command complete control over the audience for 107 minutes, whether he's mocking personalities like Elvis, James Brown, and Stevie Wonder, or spinning long, gag-filled personal anecdotes about the ice-cream man or dysfunctional family barbecues. There's no apologizing for the immature stereotyping, blatant homophobia, and sexism (though Murphy did so several years later) that surface during the routine. But, then again, unlike his much nastier, one-sided concert film, Raw, no topic here is safe from Murphy's uproarious tongue-lashings--including the comedian himself. --Dave McCoy

simply the best.......2007-09-05
a true must have for your collection.to me the best work Eddie has ever done.
Delirious.......2007-08-27
I have the original VHS tape once I knew they had it on DVD I rush to go get it being from them is safe and I recommend them to anybody, great deal!!!
EDDIE! Delirious.......2007-07-22
A seminal DVD that oughta be in everyone's DVD collection!
About time this baby got released in DVD form, probably to pay for Eddie Murphy's growing legal and child-support bills!
lol!
If you like irreverent, in-your-face humor, this is it. Eddie is a direct descendant of Richard Pyror's style and then many other comedians copied Eddie. Funny as hell and thoroughly enjoyable!
I laughed until I was sick at my stomach.......2007-07-22
WOW - this is the original Eddie Murphy that brought him to the attention of the world. This has a "raunchy" rating of about a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. You definitely do not want to watch this with your mother (or your gay friends or relatives). But I GUARANTEE that you will laugh until your sides hurt.
Eddie Murphy - Delirious.......2007-07-18
Simply hilarious!! Classic Eddie Murphy doing what he does best. I always said his stand-up comedy is so much better than his movies. You wont be disappointed.

Lost's Piper Perabo.......2007-07-21
I found this movie to be incredibly moving. I understand the struggle of loving someone that cannot be a major part of your life - its incredibly painful. Piper Perabo gave a striking performance.
Simply Amazing (no matter your sexual orientation).......2007-06-17
As a straight married man I found this movie to be so moving as to be heart-rendingly painful. I fully understand Paulie's frustration and rejection. I experienced something similar when I was twenty. My best friend(a girl)and I started to become a lot closer so I told her how I truly felt. Big mistake! The entire relationship unravelled instantly and I made an absolute fool of myself for the next six months trying to "win" her love. I was a neurotic wreck for two years afterwards not letting another woman get that close to me until I eventually met the woman that became my wife (and I thank God for her everyday!).
As a father of two daughters I realize that I can't control who they love, that's up to them. This movie has shown me not to be too judgmental about sexual issues. Like Paulie said - love just is.
I highly recommend this movie as an average straight joe because anyone with a heart that has ever been broken into a million pieces will fully understand this movie and have flashbacks during every heart-tugging scene between Paulie and Tori. Yes,I'm man enough to admit I cried at the end! It hit me that hard and profoundly.
This is not a purely lesbian love story/film by any means. This is a story about love and being loved. It's very powerful to say the least. There have been very few films to ever leave a mark on me, this is definitely one of them.
What an amazing piece of film!
strange..........2007-06-12
Sometimes there's a movie that gives you a feeling that no other movie has ever made you feel. This movie did that for me. I don't know if it was having felt a similar situation, but I felt more empathy towards these characters than I ever have for any in a film.
This movie was beautiful and painful to watch, not because it was bad, but because it made me feel so much for the girls.
I got this feeling that I can't quite name, but this movie struck me as unique and moving, a beautiful piece that I completely recommend.
girls in school.......2007-06-03
I wish Misha Barton had a more active part in the affair. Piper is yummy
Saved by the cast.......2007-04-25
This film about various forms of rejection is strange even by Canadian standards. It begins to fall apart about the time the boarding-school lesbian relationship falls apart. By then the writer(s) has resorted to melodramatic use of Shakespeare to demonstrate the crazed intensity of love -- a sign that the writer had exhausted her own resources.
There is a nude scene with the pretty and very-well-endowed Jessica Paré to recommend it to guys, and the school has a bucolic setting. However, the best thing about the film for me are the sightings of some amazing American and Candian actresses early in their careers. Besides Piper Perabo (American) and Jessica Paré (Canadian), the story's central character is played by a very young Mischa Barton -- already a willowy beauty. Also in the cast in a few scenes each are Canadian actresses Emily Van Camp and Caroline Dhavernas (she is especially pretty here, and is already speaking English without an accent).

You keep waiting for what should be a wild comedy to really take off, but this film sputters along without truly achieving liftoff. John Candy plays a writer for a TV soap opera whose life is as lovelorn as his show is packed with passion. A bump on the head, however, and it's Wizard of Oz time--except that Candy is now trapped in the world of his soap, with the advantage of knowing everyone's secrets, as well as what's going to happen next. Better yet, he's able to strike romantic sparks with characters whose actors (in real life) won't give him the time of day. But cuddly Candy isn't much of a romantic lead and the writing is too flat to let him really shine, even among a cast that includes Raymond Burr, David Rasche, and Emma Samms. --Marshall Fine
Description
Writer Jack Gable's (John Candy) soap opera has it all: deceit, trickery, sex, sex and more sex...and that's just behind the scenes! Candy (Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Splash) is hilarious in this laugh-a-minute daytime serial spoof that co-stars Mariel Hemingway (Manhattan), Emma Samms ("Dynasty"), Raymond Burr ("Perry Mason") and David Rasche ("Nurses"). When Jack clumsily bumps his head, he wakes up in the small town of Ashford Falls, the setting of his popular soap opera. But what begins as a nightmarish scenario turns into the opportunity of a lifetime as Jack finds he can control the events around him...by writing them! With typewriter at hand, Jack attempts to win the love of the show's beautiful "bad girl" (Samms), but while scripting his destiny with her, he keeps running intoliterallyan accident-prone "good girl" (Hemingway). Will he be able to win the coveted woman of his dreams? Will he win the coveted Daytime Emmy? Only one thing's for certain: His attempts to write his own ticket will leave you laughing Deliriously!

Funny funny stuff.......2007-07-27
I always watch this movie when I need a good laugh. Making fun of soap operas is always funny and they had a good time with this one. What a great cast of characters! and they're all so-0-ooo-0O funny!
One of Candy's better flicks.......2005-03-11
When I first saw this movie I was a little too young to grasp what was going on. I later rediscovered it on DVD, and thoroughly enjoyed it!
If you've ever awakened and found yourself in a Lucid Dream, then you'll have some kind of idea what you're in for when seeing this movie. Imagine awaking to find yourself on the set of the soap opera that you write for, only it's not a set, it's become REAL! And imagine being able to use your typewrite to write anything into existance! Need a taxi? Write one approachers your house, and go outside to get in.
A wonderful fantasy! Now if I can just get these black bars off my tv, on channels 2 and 7! And if you're looking for an italian version of this, just do a little research for a movie titled "Fuori Di Testa." The Italian dubs are great! :)
My Favourite Movie.......2002-09-13
This is the most hilarious movie, with John CAndy stuck inside a terrible soap opera!!HE can control events and turn himself into a hero by using his magic typewriter. It is sooooo funny, the characters are idiots, like the doctor who keeps yelling,"I..am a...medical..DOCTOR!!!',and the man whos being poisoned and his hair comes out and then he wipes his finger over his eyebrow and it comes off in his hand and then his teeth fall into the sink and then he tries to shoot his sister, who is poisoning him, only it isn't really his sister because she was swapped at birth so he accidentally shoots his real sister, and he cant talk properly anymore and so he says,"Ah,shthit." LOLOL.My mum is grossed out by the man who is losing his bits so she taped over the movie once.I love it!!!Its soooo funny!
form your own opinion.......2002-05-19
its easy to state facts when you talk about the quality of a power tool or a tv. but when it comes to things like movies and music, its all a mater of opinion. my idea of a great movie might be your idea of the worst movie ever made. so its not a good idea to buy or not buy a movie based on someones opinion of it. i liked this movie in fact i just watched this movie 5 min before writing this. if you are not sure if its your cup of tea rent it before buying it. i seen it 10 times over the years and i still like it.
A Cute Comedy........2002-02-23
John Candy was one of the true greats of modern comedy. Unfortunately, he spent most of his career performing in poorly written movies which did not allow him to display his comic genius. DELIRIOUS doesn't fit that bill, however, neither does it achieve the heights that it could have.
In DELIRIOUS, Candy plays a soap opera writer/producer of the hottest show on televsion. He finds himself constantly battling the other producers who always want to revamp the show and quite frankly would like to get rid of him. While driving in the country for a weekend vacation, Candy is in a car accident and awakens to find himself in a real version of the fictional town he helped create on his soap.
The movie is a lot of fun and toys with an interesting idea. However, much more could have been done with the "life in a soap opera" concept to have capitalized upon Candy's talent. The movie has an impressive cast including Mariel Hemingway, Robert Wagner, and Raymond Burr.
Overall a charming little movie that's a lot of fun. Great for an evening of escapist delight.
