Description

The trials and tribulations of wealthy young Manhattanites and their sexual coming of age, a romantic comedy set at an Upper East Side prep school. Three young women come together in college and quickly determine that one has never had an orgasm, they quickly decide that they are going to make sure she has one. The three then set out on sexual adventures.

I teach this film and my students (18-21) love it. I find it hilarious as well.

You most likely have never seen this, or even heard of it, b/c it was burried by the MPAA ratings board. Although there is no nudity, no violence and little explicit sexuality, it is about women in search of an sexual pleasure and, thus, received a much harsher rating than American Pie. It is smarter and wittier than AP (not that hard to do) and the acting is solid. A very entertaining and progressive film.

This was a funny "coming of age" movie with today's modern teens. It was enjoying to watch.

So when you find it you must take advantage of the little time you have. when Shakira found Duane, her thoughts were of a perfect man but little did she know that the only way to be perfect is by making mistakes. Dissapointment arose on the horizon when her reflecyions of a flawless relationship turned out to be erroneous. The problems that made Duane weaker are the same exact issues that forced Shakira to become stronger but when Nick comes in the picture, he appears to be a life raft sent from heaven to rescue her. Did she confuse a coincidence with fate? How far will she let this life raft drift her into uncharted waters? Shakira could see her pain coming from a hundred miles away, but there was nothing she could do about it, except remain patient because love takes time.

Described as American Pie for girls, Coming Soon is a cute, sweet, but often bland and familiar coming-of-age sex comedy. Set in an exclusive New York prep school, where more time is spent in college admission strategies than actually going to class, it's about the quest for the elusive orgasm and true love, in that order. Bonnie Root is a real find as the spunky, naive high school virgin in a hurry to catch up with her worldly best friends (haughty Gaby Hoffmann and moody Tricia Vessey). There's a bit of Clueless tossed in when Root is attracted to a shaggy new-age beatnik and garage band musician (the amiable Ryan Reynolds, looking like a young Val Kilmer), a move her status-conscious classmates find decidedly uncool. The laughs come from easy targets: Mia Farrow as Root's distracted flower child mom, Ryan O'Neal the very image of midlife crisis as her yuppie father with a new young girlfriend (Yasmin Bleeth, laying on the immaturity a little thick), and Spalding Gray the master of understatement as a feel-good career counselor. It's nice to see the sex comedy formula from a girl's perspective, and Colette Burson seems to know her milieu, but it's the girls and their adolescent confusion that make it work. --Sean Axmaker

Their quest for satisfaction leads them through self-help books, their classmates, the personal ads, and a hot tub in this unusually frank and funny depiction of young women coming of age.

The young and talented Ms. Bonnie Root gives an all star performance in this coming of age comedy. She is a real find and I look forward to watching her career progress.

Cannot say enough about this movie. Came upon it by chance one night on cable, watched it, watched it again, bought it. Now, I admit that Henry and his songs to Stream have A LOT to do with it and the fact that you are rooting for her to stop listening to her friend with the really bad wig and 'tude and decide for herself... won't be disappointed. Is a great get-your-girls-together-and-watch movie!!!!!

Stale? Corny? Insular? NOT!.......2002-05-04

I'm astonished at the hostility this movie seems to have provoked in other viewers. Perhaps some of my younger brothers are feeling a little, um, insecure? The books that Stream reads will do you some good too...

This is a fine film. It's NOT "American Pie" -- the humor is not as consistent, the charm is not as strong, and the pacing does falter for a while in the middle. But it's still worth 4 stars for quirky humor, likeable characters, amusing cameos, and refreshing frankness. I've watched it a few times with enjoyment.

I really enjoyed the story, and found the cast to be excellent! This movie is really one for girls, since I'm pretty sure guys would have a hard time relating to the main theme. Also, the music from this movie was really good! I would definlately recommend this movie to any girl in high school or college!
