Goldie Hawn plays a physical education teacher who gets a chance to coach an inner-city high school football team. If that sounds contrived, it is, but in the hands of director Michael Ritchie (Smile), the jokes all fire, and there's plenty of comedy teased out in details. (The cheerleading squad has some funny moments just belting out their morale-boosting chants.) The supporting cast has a couple of significant up-and-comers: Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. --Tom Keogh
Description
As the daughter of a legendary grid iron star, a young woman's greatest desire is to coach a team of her own. But when the chauvinistic powers-that-be assign her to an inner-city ghetto school, the spirited female has her work cut out for her.

Good Classic Movie.......2006-09-01
I forgot how funny this movie was. You don't stop laughing till the end of the movie. Even the credits are funny to watch.
Wildcats.......2006-08-30
Wildcats is an interesting movie although not very believeable. It was intertaining enough, I always enjoy Goldie Hawn in her movies.
Nipsey Russell??? RRRRIIIGHTT!!!! If it is Nipsey way cool.......2005-05-05
This is your typical bad music 80's film, but what a joy to watch. Everyone in it is awesome and funny. A great supporting cast including, Nipsey Russell, Woody harrelson, yum! Wesley Snipes & a hardly used Jan Hooks.
I must say though that my favorite part of the whole film is the ending credits with a Wildcats version of LL Cool J's Football song. Hilarious to the last huughhuhuhuhgh!
One of the Best of its Genre!.......2005-03-03
I first saw this when I was a child. I'm 27 now and just bought the DVD. For years I've had the film on a crummy video cassette but now I can enjoy it fully. This is like fine wine. It only gets better with age.
Molly McGrath, a school coach is hooked into going to Central High, a school full of underachieving, smart mouth criminals and losers to teach Central's failing football team. Unfortunately their best quarter back LeVander has turned street criminal so the principal ( Nipsie Russell ) hopes McGrath is the new blood needed to win some games. Of course Molly is confronted by the team's hostility at first but when they notice she has a real talent for football and grew up on the sport, they start to respect her. Molly never backs down proving once again that anything a man can do a woman can do better. The story moves smoothly except for the boring plot line dealing with Molly's eldest daughter, constantly acting out to get attention. Also the big plot hole is how Molly managed to turn the Central Wildcats into the Dallas Cowboys without explanation. One minute they're the worst team in the district, the next thing we know they're winning the championship! Go figure. Since this is a comedy overlooking plot holes won't slow up the fun. The highlights are Trumaine ( Wesley Snipes ) who is so disgustingly funny you'll be shocked at some of the things he says. Cerullo's uh...talent ( if you call flatulence a talent ). Flatulence in films wasn't over done in 86' when this is made so it was funny then. It may not be funny to people ( including myself ) who are sick of flatulance being relied on for films of today. And my number one favorite...Finch! The four-hundred pound genius with an attitude! All the actors have chemistry with each other and keep the ball rolling. James Keach is funny as Molly's ex-husband who's constantly sticking his nose where it doesn't belong.
Wildcats has all the components of a great film: cute jocks, humor, a witty actress and all around good clean 80's fun. What amazes me about this is that it doesn't seem that dated even though its nineteen years old. Some 80's films lose their spark but Wildcats is funnier than ever. I never tire of the football sequences or the players' funny catch lines such as: " If they're the cougars, how come they got a goat? " " What are we b------- about? We got a dog dressed like a cat."
Wildcats is Goldie's best movie in my opinion. I liked Overboard but with this Goldie really came into her own. There are a lot of emerging actors from this film such as Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson and not to mention the cute cameo from LL. Cool J. Also the man who plays Cerullo is a major hottie! And who can forget the cute little rap song the team does at the end? If you're into light humor or find yourself at home with nothing to do, Wildcats is the perfect movie to just throw in the DVD player and relax. There's no thinking required. The only thing you must have is a sense of humor and the need for two hours of fun-loving entertainment for the entire family ( despite a couple curse words ). Enjoy. And if you haven't seen it, BUY IT!
If you enjoy Wildcats you'll love other funny films of this genre:
Sunset Park
Hardball
The Bad News Bears
A League of their Own
All of these films are good but Wildcats is in a place all its own.
Essential 80s fare.......2003-07-08
In the age of "Porky's", "Revenge Of The Nerds", "Police Academy" (what were we thinking???), and "Airplane" came this underrated comedy gem.
You don't have to like Goldie Hawn, but the supporting cast makes it work--Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, Nipsey Russell, and James Keach--and the jokes still work a couple decades later. Dig LL Cool J's theme song (pre-dating his work on yet another football film--"Any Given Sunday), and let your memory work overtime.
Description
On March 19, 1966, Texas Western College, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), put an all-black starting five on the floor for the first time in an NCAA basketball championship. That night the Texas Western Miners, led by coach Don Haskins with star players David Lattin and Bobby Joe Hill, defeated coach Adolph Rupp's #1 ranked all-white Kentucky Wildcats, 72-65. Lattin set the tone early with a thunderous dunk, highlighting the strength of the Miners, while Hill's back to back steals showed their quickness. Other key players for the Miners included Harry Flournoy, Willie Cager, Willie Worsley and Nevil Shed. The Kentucky Wildcats featured Pat Riley, Louis Dampier and Larry Conley.

Great Story.......2007-05-26
This is one of the greatest humanistic stories of all times. It is the very beginning of what college sports represent today and I am thankfull for the inovative thinking of Coach Haskins and the young men of Texas Western University (University of Texas El Paso), if it wasn't for them, I would have never received a basketball scholarship and earned a degree.
FINALLY!!!.......2007-04-18
For YEARS I have been pleading with the NCAA, the university (UTEP), ESPN, and anyone else who would listen that this game, perhaps the most important and culturally significant contest ever played, should be remastered and released on DVD. At last, my wish has been granted. I've had an old VHS copy of this game that was made from the original master reel for a few years, but the picture quality is very poor and there's no audio.
While the picture quality is still not 100%, this digitally remastered version of the game is as good as could possibly be expected (since the master reel is over 40 years old). Another great feature is that the game finally has audio. They managed to find the original radio broadcast of the game and matched it to the video, so the play-calling is seamless and exact. Add to that the bonus features, which include player interviews, the game newsreel, and the NCAA highlight video aired after the game, and it truly is a piece of history not to be missed.
When "Glory Road" was released on DVD last year, one of my biggest complaints was that they didn't even attempt to include a bonus disc of the actual game. Now that this DVD has been produced, fans of UTEP basketball and basketball fans in general can see for themselves the game that changed collegiate sports forever.
It's been long overdue... but well worth the wait.

Customer Reviews:
Enjoyable movie.......2006-07-19
I enjoyed this family adventure movie. The scenery was really nice, and the plot and acting were ok as well. Not a blockbuster but an enjoyable family movie.
A movie that comes packed with adventure and realistic drama.......2002-11-02
A boy, Pete, is very close to his grandfather (Dennis Weaver). While Pete and his parents are visiting the old timer that has seen many good and bad times in years past, Pete hears some news that he didn't want to hear. To get away from the harsh reality of the bad news that life just threw them, Pete and his grandpa take a trip to the mountainous woods in order to spend some time quality time together. Never did they expect something bad to happen which would cause them to get lost in the upbeat wilderness that never rests.
To say the least, "Escape From Wildcat Canyon" is full of adventure once the two get lost. They'll have to deal with hungry wolves, frightening heights, fast flowing rivers that can chill you to the bone (not to mention that it's the cold season), and much more. It'll not only take teamwork, but a lot of luck will also come in handy for them to get through this expedition alive.
Granted, "Escape From Wildcat Canyon" doesn't have the best acting that anybody's ever seen (Dennis Weaver, the Grandpa, is great though), and it may be a little cliched, but it's still a good movie, especially for all you adventure fans out there. There's also a lot of nice scenery to take in while watching the film. So, regardless of the fact that you've probably never even heard of this movie (I hadn't till tonight), give it a shot by watching it on TV, or better yet, buy the movie. It's worth it.

Silent but deadly dull.......2007-03-15
I feel like a bit of a Philistine for not appreciating this silent German comedy more. Despite many interesting visual flairs, such as the inventive set designs and the use of offbeat framing techniques, I couldn't see it as anything more than a very slight, silly story that went on far longer than it needed to. It failed the most fundamental test for any comedy: I did not crack a smile even once.
And now for something completely different..........2007-03-03
Of the four DVDs in the `Lubitsch in Berlin' series, "The Wildcat" surely stands out as the most bizarre and uniquely different, especially when compared to all the other well-known German silent films with their seriousness and gloomy Expressionist styles. In total contrast to the work of his contemporaries, namely other legendary directors like Fritz Lang, FW Murnau and GW Pabst, Ernst Lubitsch had a style of his own, and "The Wildcat" is a prime example. Today this comedy can be compared to Monty Python, but "The Wildcat" in its introduction simply calls itself "A Grotesque", and this is exactly what comes to mind when seeing the very odd and even indescribable sets and interiors. The military fortress where much of the action takes place looks like something between a fairytale and a nightmare, and not satisfied with the effort to create such bizarre sets and props, Lubitsch takes the visual uniqueness even further with many scenes filmed through differently shaped frames. Not even round, oval or square were enough; many frames are zigzags, tear-outs and other weird cut-out forms, so that the viewer is constantly surprised and enthralled by the visual spectacle, while still being able to follow a logical plot. Pola Negri shows off her talent in `grotesque comedy' as the Wildcat, a member of a gang of thieves in the snowy mountains not far from the fort. It is, in fact, a love story between a Lieutenant and the Wildcat, but both are meant to marry someone else. Such a simple and true-to-life story is presented in this skilfully contorted style which should impress even those like me who are not such big fans of comedy or Monty Python-style humour. Putting "The Wildcat" into context in its time of the early 1920s in Germany where audiences had sophisticated exotic and artistic tastes, Lubitsch's expertise in creating bizarre comedies stands out even more. Two other outstanding examples of his comedies are also in the `Lubitsch in Berlin' series, namely "The Oyster Princess" and "I Don't Want to be a Man" both starring a very competent comedienne, Ossi Oswalda, and together they present a more complete picture of German silent cinema. Besides all these special features, this DVD has an exceptionally good orchestral musical accompaniment, and the picture quality is perfectly clear, making it fully deserving of all 5 stars.
Die Bergkatze.......2007-01-28
Alexis, a notorious soldier (Paul Heidemann), is sent away to get away from all the women that can't resist his charms. There he is handed the daughter of his commander, but he finds himself enchanted by a ruffian who stole his pants on his journey to his new home. Rischka (Pola Negri) has been brought up to give orders and to take what she wants. Her father and a band of theives target Alexis's new home, but little do they know that Rischka plans to start a romance with him.
This movie is very silly and is not meant to be taken seriously at all, though most people who seek out foreign films will expect something profound. It is artistic, however, due to the use of oddly shaped lenses for the entire film. This does not detract from the humor, though.
What makes this movie interesting to most silent movie fans is Pola Negri. Negri is notorious in film history as a vamp, but she is completely different in this film. One would never guess her reputation by her role as Rischka. She is a tomboy, carefree, rough, and lowbrow.
An Imaginative Film.......2006-12-29
Ernst Lubisch described this film as a "Grotesque in Four Acts" but it is probably more simply described as a satiric comedy. The subject of the film is the army and coming so soon after the First World War I wondered what audiences than made of indulged military life of the fort commander (whose main concern is to have his daughter married) and Lieutenant Alexis whose only occupation is womanizing. The plot is very simple: Lieutenant Alexis is being posted to the commander's fort (which is supposed to be a giant toy box but I thought looked like a bizarre battleship) and he leaves being hundreds of women he has seduced along with the hundred or so children who call him father. Along the way, the lieutenant is captured by a band of robbers whose leader is the father of Pola Negri, named Rischka, the wildcat of the title. She takes an immediate interest in the lieutenant who is likewise smitten. The lieutenant is robbed of his clothing (the robbers steal odd things such as clothing and a bed but seemingly nothing of any large value). The lieutenant escapes and walks into the fort in his long underwear. The commander immediately announces the lieutenant's engagement to his daughter and the wedding date is set. The Wildcat, in the meantime, breaks into the fort along with the robbers and bumps into the lieutenant. They are drawn to each other and Alexis is only stopped from taking off with the Rischka by the arrival of his fiancé. The Wildcat's father decides it is time for her to get married and she is paired up with the only member of the gang of robbers who is brave enough to put up with her. The film continues with another meeting between the newly married lieutenant but he and the Wildcat go their separate ways.
This film is notable for the use of expressionistic set designs and the various shapes given to the film frame, changing from long strips to ovals to ornate shapes, which adds to the outlandish character of the film. Wildcat is a unique film and one can easily detect the Lubitsch touch that made his later films like Ninotchka so funny. The film has some hilarious moments but the acting is a bit old-fashioned, however, Wildcat is also so imaginative that your interest is held throughout: you are wondering how this farcical comedy is going to end.

For all the exotic places depicted in his later films-- Monte Carlo, Venice, the mittel-European settings of The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg or The Shop Around the Corner, Stalin's Russia, Hitler-occupied Poland-- Lubitsch never returned to the wildly cartoonish style on evidence in these early comedies released by Kino, which are quite eye-opening, full of wild curlicues of plaster, fortresses that look like birthday cakes, staircases that descend a quarter-mile amid running water. They're undeniable visual treats, unlike anything you've seen before, even when the knockabout comedy is not up to the visual imagination on display-- or the abilities of star Pola Negri, for whom "wildcat" is the perfect role.
The Wildcat is a sort of burlesque on a genre of military romances buried so deeply in the mists of memory that they still seem familiar even when it's hard to think of an actual example of what's being parodied (The Desert Song?). There's a fortress on the edge of mountainous wilds, and there's a handsome young officer who's been exiled there because of his love life. And then there's a tribe of wild mountain people including a tempestuous daughter, played by Pola Negri, with whom the officer will fall in love.
As with the mistaken identity plot in The Oyster Princess, you can imagine the smart 30s comedy this would be the setup for, and it's nothing like this-- which mainly consists of running around and clowning broadly. Only occasional bits here and there-- a hilariously exaggerated depiction of the results of the officer's Casanova-like behavior, a delightful bit of comedy on the quarter-mile staircase that plays out with the purity and visual grace of Buster Keaton's single-take descent down six flights of stairs in The Cameraman-- are actually especially funny. But at least in Negri you have a recognizable comic human being, full of life and randiness-- and the ending, though still half-cartoon, has an emotional effect well beyond anything in The Oyster Princess just three years earlier.
Description
The defending champion Georgetown Hoyas were a likely team to make it to the championship game in 1985. They were the No.1 team in the country and had Co-Player of the Year Patrick Ewing at center. Villanova, on the other hand, wasn't even ranked and had lost to the Hoyas both times the two teams met in the Big East play. Nevertheless, the underdog Wildcats shot 78.6 percent (22 for 28) and won, 66-64.

intresting double feature.......2005-09-07
While I bought this originally for the "Swedish" side I found myself drawn to both movies. I was curious and ultimatly, quite satisfied with how the writers would "modernize" such a plot line. Highly adequete in using shadow in the frame for a more dramatic presentation in what could most easily be described as a silly auction. Chelsea Mundae shines in her melodramatisism of a Madame au Noir. J.P. Fedele was fantastic as a classical(though modernized) "greaser". These movies are more along the lines of quasi-nilhist+erotica moreso than straight forward erotica. Watch, but watch out there is a story too.
One on my favorite Joe Sarno films!.......2005-06-05
Aunt Marghareta (Diana Dors) runs an exotic brothel in Copenhagen that caters to customers of prurient tastes. Each night, "Marghareta's Maison" puts on a titillating show highlighting her menagerie of exquisite female beauties who are then offered up to the highest bidders for a night of unforgettable pleasures. Marghareta's sexy young nieces - sisters Susanna and Karin - are the most desired of her "performers." Made up in body paint as a pair of Swedish tigeresses, every man or woman pays handsomely to spend an unforgettable evening with them. But Susanna and Karin begin tiring of Marghareta's perverse clientele and their passionless sexual encounters. They long to experience true love and wonder if girls like them can ever find it. Keeping her real identity and profession a secret, Susanna meets Peter - a young Swedish test pilot who quickly falls for her. Will they find happiness together, or will Peter discover the shocking truth about Susanna...and the Swedish Wildcats?
Digitally re-mastered from the original film elements, Swedish Wildcats (16x9 Wide Screen) is Sarno at his most shocking and provocative. This long-awaited favorite is paired with the sexy 2004 remake, New York Wildcats, specially produced for this Double Feature release and starring popular `B' movie sisters Misty and Chelsea Mundae.

Description
Originally produced by Republic Pictures, the Red Ryder movies were based on the character created by Fred Harman for his newspaper comic strip, which ran from 1938 to 1964. Legends has it that Red Ryder and his faithful sidekick Little Beaver would go wherever needed, to defend the innocent, bring crooks to justice and restore the peace. There's plenty of double-barreled action in this double-feature starring Wild Bill Elliott as the Red Ryder and Bobby Blake as Little Beaver. In the first part of our double-bill,
San Antonio Kid (1944), greedy outlaws in pursuit of the coveted "black gold," frighten local ranchers into leaving their homesteads in order that they might buy up all the valuable land. Red Ryder comes to their aid. In the second half of the double-bill,
Cheyenne Wildcat (1947), Red Ryder is the unwilling object-of-desire caught between the love of two different ladies, but he still finds the time to outwit a gang of ornery outlaws.
Bonus Features: Photo Gallery of Posters and Comic Book Art| Actor Bios| Original Adventures of Red Ryder Serial Trailer| Scene Selection.
Specs: DVD5; Dolby Digital Mono; 108 minutes; B&W; 1.33.1 Aspect Ratio; MPAA - NR; Year - 1944 & 1947; SRP - $19.99.
Customer Reviews:
Little Don Plays Big Red.......2006-01-13
This is yet another adaptation of a popular comic strip. Yours truly regularly read Red Ryder comic books as a teen, and this is worthy translation. Don Barry is very good in the title role, although he really doesn't fit the comic book look of Red Ryder--Red is a tall gangly guy, and Barry is very short. It's comical (pun intended) to see him do a little hop when he mounts his horse in order to be able to jump up that high! Directors Witney and English couldn't stand working with Barry and his oversize ego (they called him "the midget"); apparently he constantly wanted to change things and write his own lines. Despite this, the relationship works very well indeed on the screen. Probably they gave him that huge hat to make him look taller.
Tommy Cook plays Red's buddy Little Beaver, and he does well with the silly "Indian lingo" lines they gave him. Noah Beery ("Overland Mail", "Zorro Rides Again") is an all-time favorite Western bad-guy, and William Farnum helps out. Hal Taliaferro, seen in lots of serials, is Red's pal Cherokee, and Maude Pierce Allen is terrific as Red's aunt, the Duchess. The indefatigible Davy Sharpe does the stunt work for Barry.
"Red Ryder B-Western Series ... Wild Bill Elliott as Red Ryder ... VCI Home Video" .......2004-09-12
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Gordon Elliott (6/15/1903 - 11/26/1965) from Pattonsburg, Mo, later known at William "Wild Bill" Elliott (the Peaceable Man) was the best Red Ryder on the big screen ~ he got the name of "Wild Bill" after starring in a Columbia serial "The Great Adventurers of Wild Bill Hickok" back in 1938, went on to make a multitude of westerns during the '40s and '50s ~ it was then Republic Studios was looking for a star to be featured in Fred Harman's Red Ryder comic strip series coming alive and on the big screen ~ it's no small wonder that William Elliott's name was at the top of the list ~ working with the top directors of the day Howard P. Bretherton, Spencer Gordon Bennett, Joseph Kane, Wallace A. Grissell, Leslie Selander and R.G. Springsteen all under Republic Pictures banner.
First up is "The San Antonio Kid" (1944-B&W-59 mins), featuring William Elliott as Red Ryder, Bobby Blake as Little Beaver, Alice Fleming as the Duchess (Reds Aunt), Duncan Renaldo (later to become The Cisco Kid, Robin Hood of the Old West) as Johnny Bennett (the San Antonio Kid), Glenn Strange as Ace Hanlon, LeRoy Mason as Walter Garfield, Linda Stirling (of Republic Serial fame) as Ann Taylor and Jack Kirk as Ben Taylor...with a cattle car full of Republics ace stuntmen Yakima Canutt (king of the stunt department), Henry Wills and Tom Steele (Ryder's stunt double) ~ plenty of action to go around ~ oil is discovered and it looks like some slick villainy is afoot to drive the Taylor's and neighboring ranchers off their land ~ time for Red and his horse Thunder to go into action.
Second on this double bill is "Cheyenne Wildcat" (1944-B&W-54 mins), again Elliott, Blake and Fleming star in a bank fraud involving some very savory characters, such as Tom London, Roy Barcroft (King of the Badmen) was so good at being Bad! ~ on the same bill is Peggy Stewart as the daughter of an honest deceased banker who was shot on the stage for mysterious reasons ~ it's up to Red Ryder and Little Beaver to see beyond such treachery ~ director Leslie Selander takes several turns in this delightful story, all of which involve the stuntwork of Republic's best in the business.

1940's Red Ryder and Little Beaver Volume 1, come to DVD!.......2002-11-08
Many now only relate to "Red Ryder's Genuine Carbine Action Two-Hundred Shot Lightning Loader Range Model Air Rifle" made famous in the 1983 Christmas movie, "A Christmas Story". This story was about a 10 year old boys obsession with getting Red Ryder's air rifle for Christmas.
Well now, we can all see this famous no-nonsense cowboy and his little sidekick Indian boy, Little Beaver in action. This was a perfect pair & their complete honorable taming of the west.
Red Ryder & Little Beaver adventures dominated the comic strips in the 1930's - 1950's. Late in the 30's REd Ryder came to the screen in a 12 action packed episode serial. Pretty good stuff and a sample coming attraction of this early Red Ryder serial is included on this double feature DVD.
The 1940's Red Ryder introduced the most popular Red Ryder with Wild Bill Elliot and Robert Blake an Little Beaver. This duo went on to make over a dozen Red Ryder movies in the 40's.
This Double Feature remastered DVD Full Screen Black/White includes 2 of thier movies.
An Antonio Kid (1944 / 52 minutes) - greedy outlaws pursuit of the coveted "Black Gold" by terrorizing ranchers.
Cheyenne Wildcat (1947 / 50 minutes) - Red becomes the object of desire of 2 ladies while he & Lil' Beaver pursue outlaws.
This is wholesome fun family entertainment. Red & Lil' Beaver compliment each other and there is genuine onscreen friendship chemistry between them. This is fun stuff. Nice addition to the old western DVD library. Also included is a movie billboard & comic strip montage extra.
Also, now we see why Ralphie Parker from "A Christmas Story" obsessed over Red Ryder!!! Enjoy.
Red Ryder-Memories.......2002-08-13
These two western "B" movies from the 40's are typical of the westerns of the war years. The second movie, "Cheyene Wildcat" is the best of the Elliott "Ryder" movies. A big plus is Robert Blake (Baretta) playing Little Beaver! Another big plus, is Roy Barcroft as the mean villian. As with all the old movies coming out in DVD, the quality is very good.
If you are over 60 you'll enjoy the memory-if you are under 60 you get to see a time when good triumphed over evil!
ADVENTURES OF RED RYDER.......2002-05-26
I don`t believe this one ever got to the U.K. when i was riding the range at Saturday cinema. One word. Wonderful. My memories of serials in the early 50`s here in U.K. were Blackhawk. Possibly the best ever. Jungle Girl, Captain Video,SirLancelot,Superman, and White Eagle. Now at almost 60 years old to be able to relive those happy years once again with a serial like Red Ryder plus a TV episode with one of my favorite cowboys Rocky Lane is beyond words. The D V D transfer is very good its a treat to be able to see a good quality picture at last. I`ve had enough of poor quality slow speed video copy`s and as for some of the material some people get away with on the net. I urge you forget the rubbish and go for D V D and make Red Ryder your first choice. Come on company`s lets have some more...
