For better or worse, David Mamet's hit play Sexual Perversity in Chicago is watered down into this romantic comedy about a couple (played by Rob Lowe and Demi Moore) who get together and then fall apart due to Lowe's character's inability to commit. Jim Belushi is on hand as the gratuitously swinish best friend who looks at women as meat, and Elizabeth Perkins is entertainingly arch as Moore's gal pal and Belushi's nemesis. There's nothing about this 1986 film by Edward Zwick (cocreator of TV's thirtysomething and director of Glory and Courage Under Fire) that is at all reminiscent of Mamet, but that doesn't make it bad or dull. While one can feel the script straining to fill in gaps where chunks of the original play have disappeared, Zwick often successfully tells the story without words at all, relying on the actors to convey pure emotion. Lowe is good, and the then-willowy Moore's understated performance reminds one of the actress she might have been before she became a spectacle. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Danny & Debbie hook up & break up; repeat & sprinkle over Chicago.......2007-07-12

I would have loved to see the play by "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" by David Mamet, so I can have a comparison to the movie adapted version named "About Last Night..." From what I heard the movie is pretty diluted in juxtaposition to the play, which is surprising because unlike modern times, the 1980s didn't really worry about movie ratings to fit a PG-13 versus R rating to make money and/or moral values.

As for the movie itself, it lacks any real plot. Young man in his early twenties named Danny (Rob Lowe) meets a young woman in her early twenties named Debbie (Demi Moore) in a bar in Chicago. After several dates, Danny and Debbie decide to move in together and give love a shot. The result is very moody, precarious, sexual, devoted, aloof and griping relationship. As a matter of fact, the relationship could probably be considered the first bipolar couple captured on film. With all the ups and downs and "should I be with this person or shouldn't I?" between Danny and Debbie. These "tender moments" create some major laughs, many that are totally both intentional and unintentional by the movie makers. However, I really didn't care if Danny and Debbie stayed together or not. Mainly because they both go through fits of being very vexing and it takes a toll on my soul. Therefore my mind kept wondering when McDonald's was going to bring back 2 for 2 Big Macs.

Rob Lowe does a great job as the young (and somewhat dumb) stud who doesn't want to grow up. I think that his hair should have also received billing in this movie, but that is just me. Demi Moore was adorable but kind of idiotic. I really found her character both naïve and vapid. In defense of Demi, she makes the character work, really. You will also discover many, many sex scenes with Rob and Demi. They both show plenty of skin. Also Rob watches strange cartoons and Demi sports her trademark raspy voice.

As for the supporting cast, Elizabeth Perkins gives a solid performance as Debbie's surly and caustic best friend Joan. That former description is supposed to be an oxymoron. Joan basically hates all men and goes through fits of imagined and real rejection throughout the entire movie. I really wanted to slap her in the face a couple of times. This shows that Liz Perkins did great job acting. Jim Belushi was great as Bernie. Bernie is the staple guy's guy. With plenty of crud/sexist humor and one liners like "Pull this leg and it plays Jingle Bells", he really is a guy you can see yourself having a pizza and some beer with. In contrast he is also the only character who doesn't come off fake or have some personality hang ups. Debbie has a sordid affair with her boss Steve, who by the way is awesome. Joan hates men but has no problem picking the worse out of the lot and takes no ownership of her selection of mates. Danny likes to sleep with married women and has a hard time with "real emotions". In other words, Bernie has no disillusions about who he is and there is no deception about his motives.

There are about six music videos in this movie. This is where music is played to show the elapse of time pass. I believe the term is a montage. This technique is something that isn't seen much in movies today. However in "About Last Night...", it totally works. There are certain montages where I just want to get up and dance while the DVD is playing. The music in this movie is also bipolar. It is either pop bubble gum or so dramatic the earth should stop. I am also happy to say a copy of the entire motion picture soundtrack is in my house. LONG LIVE SHEENA EASTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"About Last Night..." does a wonderful job portraying the fundamental differences between men and women. Even though this movie was made in 1986 and is over twenty years old changes nothing. Despite fashion and plenty of hair spray of 1986, men and women go through the same dating rituals (bar hoping & mind games to note a few) now that they went through then. So even though the movie might not have the most complex plot, it has plenty of character and characters!

It might appear that I don't like this movie. Believe me I do. I have seen this movie so many times that I feel like I have the privilege to rip it apart, since it holds such a place in the land of nostalgia for me. I almost have a love, hate, love, hate relationship with this movie. This relationship of mine really mirrors Danny and Debbie's connection to one and other.

My favorite part of this movie is the opening scene between Danny (Rob) and Bernie (Jim). Bernie is telling Danny a story about this night of wild sex he had with this girl. The conversation between both Bernie and Danny is constant, but during the dialogue the scene fades to black. This fade allows for the opening credits to be shown. When the credits are shown the dialogue is still present but when the camera comes back onto Bernie and Danny they are in a different place. For instance, they are speaking on subway (or the EL/L as it is called in Chicago), then fade to black and credits and cut back to them talking in a bar, the scenes change several times. Mind you the scenes change but not the dialogue. I thought it was a pretty cool and dare I say trendy opening for a movie.

This artistic opening was something that wouldn't be out of place in the film "Memento". Nevertheless, Guy Pearce was in "Memento" with Joe Pantoliano. Joe Pantoliano was in "U.S. Marshalls" with Robert Downey Jr. Robert Downey Jr. was in "Wonder Boys" with Michael Douglas. Michael Douglas was in "Disclosure" with Demi Moore. And yes, Demi Moore was in "About Last Night..." with Jim Belushi, Elizabeth Perkins and Rob Lowe. I know I shouldn't have made the connection, but I had to. I know somewhere out there Kevin Bacon is proud.

5 out of 5 stars Better every time!.......2007-05-31

Having first viewed this film on the big screen and watched it again recently I am struck at how current this film remains. Although touted as a romantic comedy it also highlights the importance of following one's dream as the character Danny ultimately opens his own 'joint' and only then can he commit to the woman of his dreams. It is a must see for any single successful guy or any woman who wishes to glimpse ever so slightly into the single guy's mind.

One of my absolute favorite movies from the 80's! I could watch it over and over, so cute and funny! The music is cute too.

5 out of 5 stars near and dear to my heart, one of my all time favorites.......2007-01-15

I absolutely love rob lowe in this movie. His boyish innocence lets me fall in love with him in this movie every time. Ahhhhh that smile. I can remember seeing this movie over twenty years ago, and watching it feels so good. Its a nice walk down memory lane. I recently saw this on tv, and remembered how much I really love this movie, so I decided to purchase the dvd so I can watch it anytime I want to take that walk down memory lane. This one will always be one of my favorites of all time, a truly great movie that shows the sometimes realistic side of being in love.

1 out of 5 stars Not happy at all - DVD not working properly although suppose to be new.......2006-08-28

Although I purchased a brand new DVD and expected it to be brand new I have to report that I am extremely unhappy as the DVD is not working properly and stalls frequently during the middle part of the movie.
I was really looking forward to the movie as it cannot be purchased in SOuth Africa and I have been searching for it for a long time and therefore decided to get it from overseas, purchasing it through Amazon but am now really unhappy and would like you to send me a replacement as soon as possible or refund the money I paid for it.

Product Description

At the stroke of midnight, the world is going to end. With time running out, a crazy group of big-city dwellers is determined to go out with a bang. Terminally shy guy Patrick Wheeler (Don McKellar) lets a beautiful stranger (Sandra Oh) use his phone and quickly makes a love connection. Craig, his over-sexed best friend, auditions half the girls in town for the ultimate one night stand -- and winds up with his former French teacher. And while a droning gas company representative calls every last customer to sincerely thank them for their patronage, everyone else goes wild in the streets. It's the party to end all others when one man's romantic rebirth collides with the last night on earth.

    Apocalyptic visions can take many forms, from atomic to cosmic disaster, from cautionary tale to sardonic despair, comets, asteroids, plague. But when it comes to the end of the world, one expects fire or ice, bang or whimper. Rarely does this genre focus on the area between those two extremes, as it does brilliantly in Don McKellar's Last Night, a wry tale exploring the effects of the world's imminent demise on a group of characters in Toronto. No panic ensues, no looting, no gnashing of teeth or elaborate schemes to forestall disaster. Well, that may be happening somewhere, but certainly not in Toronto. Here the radio counts down the top 500 hits of all time. The clock ticks by the evening hours while daylight fails to wane. Everywhere, people prepare for the end in ways that range from the mundane to the winsome. The principal action throws together Patrick (McKellar), a dejected young man who plans on spending the end alone listening to music, with Sandra (Sandra Oh), whose plans to spend the end with her husband (David Cronenberg) are thwarted by lack of transportation. Meanwhile, Patrick's friend Craig (Callum Keith Rennie) is fulfilling every sexual fantasy he's ever had. Love the one you're with is the message here. The real star is the tone of the picture, which is distanced and ironic and masterfully maintained throughout. Sarah Polley and Geneviève Bujold appear in supporting roles. It's the directorial debut of actor McKellar (Exotica, eXistenZ), who also scripted The Red Violin. --Jim Gay

    5 out of 5 stars Different from other EOTW films.......2007-07-28

    EOTW meaning End of the World, of course. In this one, it's not like Miracle Mile, where there's lots of depression along with the mayhem. Last Night focuses more on human contact in the last few hours of humanity's reign on Earth. People are with others at the end here even if they hadn't planned to be, simply because we need one another. That's the whole point of the film. Quirky and Canadian and very entertaining.

    3 out of 5 stars No Drama, No Hysterics, No...Soul........2007-07-13

    That's what it boils down to. A soul-less movie with quite a lot to say but with no emotion to say it with.

    We never do find out why the world is ending. Yes, this would have benefited by making us actually CARE about the people in the film. If we don't know why it's happening, then we don't really care. Dead end.

    Why 3 stars then? Believe it or not, for the soundtrack.

    During the film a radio station counts down the top 500 songs of all time and boy is it refreshing. This is the soundtrack of the life of humanity. It's NOT the top 500 critically acclaimed songs by those "in the know" or those who consider themselves better than everyone else; but the songs that most of humanity listens to... in other words, songs typically trashed by the critics but loved by the rest of the world to the tune of millions of records sold.

    Nice touch to the end of the world.

    4 out of 5 stars What Would You Do If The Earth Was Ending Tonight?.......2006-12-24

    Prayer, drinking, suicide, sex?

    Everyone has their own way of "going out" and all the above are spotlighted in this low budget but well done Sci-Fi. The story focuses on a family and a couple of fringe characters who interact with the family during the countdown to the end of the world. The acting is ok and we never really find out exactly why the world is ending but it has to do with the sun.

    Like most disaster movies you get street riots and violence and intense drama. So it does sort of follow a "formula" for movies of these types. But overall it is well done.

    4 out of 5 stars Perfect Scenes.......2006-12-16

    There really aren't many perfect scenes. These are the scenes that stop you in your tracks. Usually good camera angles, poignant music and misty-eyed expressions of love and humanity in the face of annihilation make it happen (think of the closing scenes from Paths of Glory). We have a movie of stark, dark humored gloom, of engaging Canadians (aren't they always) allowing some humanity, love and glibness to crush the normal anarchy and depraved chaos the end of the world may cause. Sandra Oh's car isn't just vandalized, it leans on its hind quarters against the store. The vandals put some thought into it.
    Throughout the film you realize it's not puzzling at all as to why we go on living until we can't, why there is such a fine line from wanting to live and wanting to die that most of us won't cross with a train about to squash us. And for the final scene to unfold with Pete Seeger's version of doomed Cuban revolutionary Jose Marti's "Guantanamera" providing the perfect soundtrack of love and humanity in the scope of doom, coupling with the final couple's decision to let love conquer all, it left this viewer unable to speak or interact with others for days, simply because where I come from the singleminded status infected hordes refuse to get it. After all, we watch brainless hollywood stenographed screenplays regurgitated in our faces. This scene has never left my head for the last 8 years and probably never will, even if the DVD is released with no extras and no letterboxes. It's still rewarding to let these characters reveal their truths and be "the poor people of this earth who want to share their fates". I was never the same after that final scene and that makes a perfect scene.

    4 out of 5 stars It's The End Of The World As We Know It--And This Apocalypse Drama Feels Fine.......2006-11-20

    This small Canadian picture from writer/director/star Don McKellar came as a huge surprise. As it begins, there are six hours left before the end of the world. It's never divulged just what has transpired to bring about this catastrophe, but that's completely secondary to the very real and human stories unfolding. As people confront the end in different ways--some dignified, some anarchic--this picture connects with small moments and believable characterizations.

    Far from typical Apocalyptic representations, this is a refreshing story about human interactions. There is some looting and rioting, to be sure, but much of that is a backdrop to normal people facing the inevitable. They all have different ways they want to face the end--attend a last concert, be alone, have an impromptu Christmas, watch home movies, go to a party, have sex. Realistic and small observances are what will make this film linger in my mind.

    McKellar is great as a man who just wants to be left alone, having already lost the woman he loves. Sandra Oh probably has the showiest role as a woman trying to get across town so that she may fulfill a suicide pact with her husband. She is understated and powerful. The rest of the cast is a virtual Who's Who of Canadian cinema including Sarah Polley, Genevieve Bujold, director David Cronenberg, Egoyan regular Arsinee Khanjian, and many other recognizable faces.

    I really enjoyed this picture. It never tries to manipulate your feelings, it's all so matter of fact--that is its strongest point! It would have been easy to manufacture this tale as a weeper. But that doesn't mean it won't connect with you emotionally, it just isn't obvious about it. The end was surprisingly touching and moving--all the more so because I didn't know I was so drawn in. Mind you, however, this isn't slick--it's low budget and small. Maybe it's not for everyone, but if you enjoy a character driven story--this could be a nice surprise. It was for me. KGHarris, 11/06.

    5 out of 5 stars A Special Tribute to Sir Andrew Davis.......2007-07-09

    This 2000 version of Last Night at the Proms pays a special tribute to Sir Andrew Davis, who held the role of conductor of the BBC Symphony & Orchestra from 1988 to 2000.

    As a frequent visitor to Great Britain, I have watched the BBC broadcast of previous years of the Last Night of the Proms, and found myself very much a part of the celebrations of British Heritage!

    Watching the 2000 version on this DVD was no exception, it is wonderful having the option of playing the individual tracks such as Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem! Another option the DVD allows is to watch the full program with or without some limited commentary.

    Enjoy!!

    5 out of 5 stars The Proms have to say: thank you Hilary.......2006-03-08

    Yes, everybody from Andrew Davis to the last person in Hyde Park listening to the concert has to say this words: thank you Hilary Hahn. Her performance, in my opinion, has been the most beautiful, touching, measured moment through all the event. While everybody screamed on any other piece, demonstrating that in this kind of events the most important thing is the SHOW (the "english" show...), during Hilary Hahn's performance (half an hour with Mozart violin concerto n.4 and Bach's presto from sonata n.1 as encore) nobody spoke. everybody stopped and stared at an angel playing the violin. only Hilary Hahn can do that in a Hall with more than 6000 people inside whatching her.
    a religious silence covered the royal albert hall that night, when she started playing. the other pieces in the program are the symbol of english music, of UK's military power; but every orchestra plays this kind of music in the same way.
    nothing to do with miss Hahn: no one plays like her.
    conductor...2 stars (he's not precise...); orchestra 4 stars;5 stars to Hilary (is it possible to put 10 stars...?).

    5 out of 5 stars Hahn & The Best Mozart D Major and Bach G min Presto I've Ever Heard or Seen.......2005-08-14

    I didn't know about this dvd until a few months ago when I was browsing Hilary's website and I found a link to this dvd. The person who reviewed this dvd before me didn't even mention that Hilary Hahn plays on this. I was delighted when I finally bought this and went home to play it.

    I've been a huge fan of Hilary Hahn ever since her debut Bach cd came out. Alot of people were arguing that the Chaconne was too slow but I loved it. When I heard the Brahms, I was totally blown away. Well this performance of Mozart Concerto 4 with the Bach G min Presto as an encore really blew me away again.

    First of all, Hilary has the most perfect bow arm I've seen since Milstein, not alot of bow pressure but alot of speed and a deadly accurate sense of timing, she also plays clear articulate legatos and a spiccato that is always dead on. Like Milstein, her vibrato is very modest and never overstated but at times approaches the romanticness of Mr. Szeryng: always in good taste but never overly so.

    I would have preferred a dvd of the Brahms because the cd really blew me away but this is equally impressive. According to her web journal she has been playing concertos by Paganini, Spohr, Vieuxtemps 4, Bruch and Korngold. I'm trying to imagine watching those concerts on video as well. Hey Hilary, please keep the videos coming!

    3 out of 5 stars Taste the Last Night excitement!.......2004-10-04

    If you thought classical music lovers all over the world came neatly dressed and sat quietly during the concerts, here is a concert that will change all such impressions. This is the Last Night of the Proms concert conducted by Sir Andrew Davis.

    The music on this DVD is a bit British oriented, which is a norm for the Last Night, I guess. There is an orchestral arrangement of Bach's prelude by Elgar. And then there is Rule Britannia by Arne, Pomp and Circumstance March by Elgar, Fantasia on Sea Songs by Sir Henry Wood, Jerusalem etc accompanied by claps, baloon bursts, taxi horns and what not! The musical arrangment of Sir Andrew's farewel speech is a nice curiosity in addition to the "traditional" pieces performed in a Proms' finale.

    I have two reservations about this DVD before recommending this disc to anyone:

    1) The layer switch on this dual layer DVD happens towards the last note of the Shostakovich's Jazz Suite. On some DVD players like mine, this causes a momentary pause and drains all the excitement away from such a piece. I am sure the DVD specifications allow the data files on the disc to be organized in such a way to avoid the layer switch in the middle of a track.

    2) The programme is interwoven with interviews and announcements, which is good for the first time, but boring on repeated listenings.

    But I'd still recommend this disc to anyone who would like to sample the excitement of the Last Night, but could never be there yet.

    5 out of 5 stars She's Back..........again!.......2005-10-17

    If you are a horror buff that loves ALL horror movies, and not JUST the ones with the '05 special effects, you'll love this one,I did. The humor is a little dry, but I still loved it.

    5 out of 5 stars BOTH ARE FUN AND GOOD FLICKS!!!!!!.......2005-09-12

    Prom Night 3 is awesome has a hot sexy cast and the story is the same as Prom Night 2!!!!!! Mary Lou is back in action killing students and teachers again,but this time she is in love with Zach Gillian!!!!!!!! Prom Night 3 is a five star movie and as far as the other one i would have to give it a four star it wasn't as good as the other one!!!!!!! Check them out!!!!

    3 out of 5 stars It's Not Who You Come WIth, It's Who Takes You Home.......2005-07-12

    ~~~~~Prom Night 3 (*** 3 Stars)~~~~~
    Prom Night 3 takes the character from Part 2, Mary Lou and does an interesting thing with her character for this film. Mary Lou has gotten her revenge and shes still floting around the school. And with nothing to do and no one left to kill who needs killing she falls in love with one of the students and helps him go from a nobody to an honour student and his grades and ppopularity increase. However, anybody that keeps trying to get in the way, interfear with him, or find out whats really going on, there fate is dealt with by Mary Lou.
    However he is not too happy with her killings, she cant stop and he's doubhting it will work out.... will he work it out with Mary Lou? or will he tell her it's over and turn his life upside down? ...duh
    Overall I thought it was pretty interesting. I thought for a moment it's pretty original for a ghost to fall in love with a human, but then I thought a film called High Spirits and a few others, but this one is unique in it's own way. This is done more in a Horror way. However, keep in mind that this is a Horror/Comedy. So blood and gore fans who just wanna see brutality, or those who dont like comedy with there decapatations might not like this film.
    I guess maybe if you like Night Of The Living Dead or Sean Of The Dead kind of movies, you might enjoy this movie.
    Theres no bonus features at all. I think this movie is still better then the 1st, but it's not as good as part 2. But it's in 2nd place of all 4 movies for me!
    ~~~~~Prom Night 4 (* One Star)~~~~~~

    This time Prom Night hasnt got anything to do with Mary Lou. Which I think is the wrong direction. I find it pretty stale, humorless, goreless and pretty boring at times. Suprsingly it does come with a trailer which is more then any of the others can say. But this film just shouldnt have been added to the Prom Night saga. It's the typical horney teenagers, unsupervised, haunted house thing. Seen it, zzzzz. I can see why it was added with part 3.

    Tho I give it 1 star, I kind of lean more to just below 2 stars.. kind of a one and a half star rating. I've seen alot worse, but I would probably give those films -1 stars. But this film just needed blood and guts to be affective rather then a done-to-death already senario.

    4 out of 5 stars 2 fun movies for a late night weekend watch.......2003-11-17

    Prom night 3 (1989)Was in fact rather fun, comedic and shall I dare say, semi creepy? It wasn't like part 1, or even 2, but it was still decent, while the 1991 'finale' deliver us from evil takes us into a very similar direction as the cheap yet scary 'HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS' Director's cut...but that one at least has pace. I actually thought they were both decent, especially part 3, the transfer on part 3 was pretty good, fullscreen, but it looked sharper then the VHS, yet part 4, not so much...it looked the same as a VHS except less speckling and no backround film sound (like old vhs's have)I liked the fact that it was realy cheap and it's 2 movies for 1 low price, part 3 was about mary lou like part 2, except this one takes a dark humor route, part 4 had some semi suspense in it but was pretty cheap. Overall quality isn't that spectacular, but admit it, neither were these sequels...

    5 out of 5 stars A FANTASTIC EXAMPLE OF OPERA THEATER.......2007-08-21

    I've always wanted to be an opera director. I would choose that profession over being a super star tenor. In years of being a super for the Metropolitan and San Francisco Operas, I rehearsed with some of the best directors in the business in the late 50's and 60's. I was in awe with their abilities to create musical magic. When I now attend an opera performance my ears are for the singing and my eyes on what's going on the stage. I usually come up with "I could have done that" or "I wish I had thought of that!". FAUSTUS falls in the "I wish I thought of that" category. It is truly a perfect blend of singing and acting in a knock out production. The concept of placing the story on the face of a clock is nothing but genius. The fact the singers were able to move about on this constantly moving set and singing difficult music is astonishing. The clock and hands of the clock spin and move upright which at times gives the feeling of vertigo. The action matches the music every note of the way - or is it the other way around? You will not come away humming any of the music but the score works superby in the context of this opera. With an excellent five member cast and note perfect orchestra conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer, you will not be disappointed purchasing this DVD unless anything composed after Puccini is a complete turn off to you.

    4 out of 5 stars Another great find of contempory opera.......2007-04-29

    Wow! A powerhouse from an unknown (to me) composer. The five singers set a standard for future productions of this marvelous work. They deal with a difficult but interesting stage set and provide a clarity of the english libretto seldom realized on disc. The orchestra is up to the demands of the score adding to the total realization of this powerfull work. A short filmed commentary by the composer and conductor are all that is necessary to complete the overpowering experience of this work.

    2 out of 5 stars Remember last night again?.......2005-08-06

    Steven Weber is one of my favorite funny man and if you ever seen him in Wings, you know his persona. He tries to cheer his buddy Dan (played by Emilio Estevez) up after his wife left him. They go into this night club and that is where the fun begins. He bring these two bar girls back to his room and they dance to the music by Blondie on top of the coffee table before falling off is very sexy and funny at the same time. All hell breaks loose after that and Dan tries to mend with his wife after a night of woo hooo fun.

    Not a very good movie and probably shouldn't be watch if your have a break up either.

    5 out of 5 stars It depends on you.......2002-01-11

    It depends on you; it depends on your experiences.

    This movie might be good for you; you can find something very similar to you...

    If you have ever been one of this guy, or if you have ever spent a night like this.

    I like it very much.

    3 out of 5 stars not great but kept me entertained.......2001-04-20

    I saw this movie when it premired on starz. That's right it's a starz original. It has it's bad parts (the cop) it's good parts (golf course and psycholigist) and slow parts but through it all it kept me entertained even though it was uneven. It is a pretty good plot that took some bad turns. Weber was funny though.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent movie!!.......2000-08-05

    Yet the beginning of this movie does seem to sort of remind you of Swingers, the movie turns itself around. It turns out to be a great movie in total. I do have to say that if you like this movie, then you will also like Swingers. This movie really deserved more credit.

    4 out of 5 stars Bizarre yet alluring..........2000-07-17

    I didn't expect to watch the entire film - but I identified with the characters. It is very much a male-bonding sort of thing - but that's not always a bad thing. If you're a male in your late 20s or early-mid 30s, you'll find yourself enthralled with some of the decisions these guys make throughout the film.

    The writing and acting is solid. It takes some peculiar twists and turns because it doesn't have a plot. Like the typical male-bonding film, LLL meanders through different parties, different friends, different drugs, all during the course of one evening. But you never know where it'll take you next. Those who live in LA will identify with the film even more than the average joe, since it goes in and out of locales we angelinos frequent day in/day out. Check it out - it's worth 90 minutes of your time, especially if you live in LA.

--Jim Gay

    Customer Reviews:

      Product Description

      Five 'Titanic' films compiled on to one DVD. Over the years these films have become public domain. They have been digitized and enhanced from copies obtained by the production company. The quality is less than is standard today, however, the entertainment value is excellent. This disc includes: Alcoa Aluminum Presents: ONE STEP BEYOND - "Night of April 14th" (1959) - A young bride is plagued by nightmares of drowning with a thousand other people, as she honeymoons on the 'Titanic'. (25:43) "The Last Great Human Adventure" (1979) A mock documentary chronicling efforts to raise the Titanic. Created to promote Lord Grade's epic new film "Raise the Titanic". (23:09) Hal Roach Presents: Telephone Time: "Molly Brown" (1957) Aired in February 1957 as part of the anthology series 'Telephone Time'. This is the story of the 'Unsinkable' Molly Brown. (10:48) 1912 Newsreel (1912) No formal film press was established at the time of the Titanic disaster. These films were shown in nickelodeon theatres to anxious crowds wanting to see the Titanic. In actuality, most of the images are of her sister ship, the Olympic, but the enthusiasm remained the same. (9:18) Theatrical Trailer for "Titanic" (1953) 20th Century Fox presented this movie trailer in theaters to promote their upcoming film "Titanic" starring Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Wagner and Thelma Ritter.

      4 out of 5 stars Titanic in Content.......2007-09-11

      This DVD kept my interest all the way through. Two films are 1950's era television shows, which my son even thought was interesting. The "documentary" for the movie 'Raise the Titanic' was also quite entertaining. I had seen the newsreel before, but not on DVD, the quality is better than the VHS copy I bought twenty years ago. The overall quality is decent, considering it is all public domain footage. Well worth it for any Titanic Historian looking to expand their collection.
