Guilty pleasures don't come more guilty than The A-Team, television's only tongue-in-cheek drama about the exploits of renegade Vietnam vets. The primetime series' 1983 debut season, gathered here on The A-Team: Season One, was intentionally ludicrous, encouraging viewers to enjoy sundry talents of a colorful cast and laugh off storylines perhaps sillier than those on Charlie's Angels. Co-created by Stephen J. Cannell (Wiseguy) and Frank Lupo (Hunter), The A-Team introduced Lt. Col. John "Hannibal" Smith (George Peppard), the cocksure leader of a band of fugitive American soldiers framed for a crime in Vietnam and now thriving in Los Angeles. Hiring themselves out as soldiers of fortune, Hannibal's crew--including Lt. Templeton "Face" Peck (baby-faced Tim Dunigan in the pilot, Dirk Benedict thereafter), Sgt. Bosco Albert "B.A. (for 'Bad Attitude')" Baracus (Mr. T, outfitted with his trademark gold), and, most comically, Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock (Dwight Schultz)--assist (mostly) ordinary people having a problem with bad guys. The A-Team ostensibly charges large fees, but much of the time the guys seem to be doing pro bono work for the helpless.
Season One highlights include "Children of Jamestown," starring John Saxon as a Jim Jones-like religious cult leader who captures Hannibal, Face, B.A., and first-season sidekick Amy "Triple A" Allen (Melinda Culea). While the resourceful group invents a super-weapon out of farm equipment, crazy Murdock commandeers a helicopter and dynamite. Also good is "A Small and Deadly War," featuring Dean Stockwell as one of several uncontrolled L.A. cops committing murder-for-hire. "The Out-of-Towners" takes a page from the Death Wish movie series with a story about New York City shop owners harassed by a protection racketeer (Yaphet Kotto). Hannibal and company retaliate with machine guns (no one is ever seen killed in this series) and, more effectively, public humiliation of the villain. The best thing about The A-Team is the relationship between the four offbeat heroes, who may not always like each other (B.A. usually looks as if he'd like to leave Murdock in a shallow grave) but get the job done expertly. --Tom Keogh

awesome.......2007-07-21
i watched the a-team when i was around 5,when it reruned here in norway in the 90's, the quality of video is good to be a 80's show, audio is good to, dont expect HD quality, but it do look good on a 40" 1080p HDTV, the menu is a nice tuch, to bad it has little real bonuses, like comentary etc, the package the dvds are in, i do not like, they have put all of dvds in it and you have to take of a plastic cover, and roll it out both ways, but other than that the DVD build quality was better than Season Two's because they used DVD9 not DVD18, also Dual Layer (8GB) but not dual sided (2x8GB both sides)
Great fun for the whole family........2007-07-17
Must see TV, way before the phrase became household. The A-Team: Season One is a wholesome creative show that was unique and entertaining. Every episode is packed full of action although it lacked in special features, the pilot episode was included. A real treat, makes a great birthday gift.
Where It All Begins.......2007-04-05
Brings back great childhood memories. Fun seeing it through the lens of experience. Definitely need to suspend all critical faculties. If you do, Murdock is still as hilarious as ever--he wants to get out of asylum to "see E.T. just like everybody else." Hannibal is still "on the jazz," B.A. pities the fool, and Face's cheesy wise-guy comments seem clever.
Season one shows where it all begins, and why the A-Team is on the run. There's a different Face in the pilot--Dirk Benedict doesn't start until the second episode. The pilot features the introductory scenes used at the beginning of each episode.
It was funny reading some background on the actors on the Net. Apparently George Peppard (Hannibal) was jealous that Mr. T was most popular among viewers. Dwight Schultz (Murdock) has a blog on the Net--reading it, you wonder if the guy really is nuts.
funny if you are a preadolescent...........2007-03-24
I was 10 in the early 80's. At that time, Simon and Magnum were thursday night treats. People were actually shot in helping to take out villains and there was substance to those 2 shows. However, the A-Team was Cannell's defanged action show involving Nam vets who run from the government and anonymously help "clients." No one is ever shot despite tons of crashes and bullets. I was huge Hazzard fan and thought that show had more intellect and thought than the A-Team from a 10 year old mind at the time. Shows like the A-Team killed the best era of tv in the 70's and early 80's (Rockford, Starsky and Hutch, Magnum, Simon and Simon, etc) and subjected us to post PI and police creampuff hits like Cosby, Full House, etc. Here's an 80's analogy. Those 4 shows were to Judas Priest in metals prime, and A-Team was Poison who defanged and killed metal. If anyone prefers A-Team to those 4 shows, you probably preferred Winger to Judas Priest.
A PLAN COMES TOGETHER WITH "THE A-TEAM: SEASON ONE!".......2007-03-20
"The A-Team" is one of the greatest shows to come out of the 1980's. With its clever mix of great action, humor, and writing, the show was always great fun. Now, with season one of the show available on DVD, you can see the adventures from the very beginning. The two-hour premiere episode, "Mexican Slayride," is a great beginning, despite the fact that the guy playing Face is horrible in the role (Thank God this guy was replaced). Other standout episodes include "A Small and Deadly War," "Black Day at Bad Rock," and the season finale "A Nice Place to Visit," which partially serves as a tribute to the men who served in Vietnam.
While the picture is a bit grainy, it does little to detract from this great collection! If you're a fan of the show, or new to the series, then check out "The A-Team: Season One" on DVD. As Mr. T would say, you'll "have the jazz" when you do!

A Guy Thing wants so desperately to be a funny thing that it turns into almost nothing at all. This movie is like an annoying party guest who won't go home, although the most loyal devotees of Julia Stiles and Jason Lee are sure to get a few good laughs. Lee's awkwardly cast (and costumed) as a husband-to-be who's about to discover he's fallen in love with the free-spirited cousin (Stiles) of his comparatively straight-laced fiancée (Selma Blair). When all the who's-who gets figured out, this decidedly unromantic comedy shifts into auto-pilot with Lee trapped in a rote series of compromising positions. Every outcome is telegraphed far in advance, and true love takes its course with numbing efficiency. Lee barely squeaks by with his dignity intact; the fact that Stiles emerges buoyantly unscathed is further proof that this beguiling actress is deservedly a star on the rise. --Jeff Shannon

Funny Funny Funny.......2006-11-04
This is one of the funniest romantic comedies I have ever seen. It has heart, with quips about the actors and the situations that spiral out of control
hard to watch.......2006-01-08
i rented this movie because i love julia stiles and it looked like a cute, fun romantic comedy. i was wrong. it started out all right, for maybe the first five minuets. then the jokes went out of hand; dragging on and on and making you embarassed for the characters.
it wasnt just that it was predictable, a lot of movies are and are still good, but something was lacking. there wasnt enough build up between julia and jason. i found myself wondering why they fell for each other. and it was really hard to believe that selma wouldnt have found out about everything that was going on for such a long time. mainly the characters weren't developed and i found myself not really caring about the outcome.
i wouldnt recommend this, instead watch some other of julia stile's movie such as ten things i hate about you or save the last dance; both of which i loved.
Underrated but Frickin Hilarious.......2005-09-16
This is one of those movies that critics hate, but anyone who knows of the genious of Jason Lee will know that anything he touches turns into hilarious gold, even if it's supposed to be a romantic comedy. This easily one of the funniest and most quotable movies I have ever seen.
A Guy Thing dvd: Commentary With The Cast.......2005-09-13
"Hoo-lee-ah Stil-lez" makes a great remark, "You guys, why are we helping people make fun of our movie? That's my only question." I have watched the movie, bought the dvd today and managed to watch/listen to the "Commentary with Director & Cast" twice. Maybe I'm "too high to go to sleep" (Tom Lennon). It's one of the funniest things I've ever heard. Most commentaries make you want to turn it off after 8 minutes.
This commentary is basically Jason Lee, Julia Stiles, Selma Blair, Tom Lennon and Chris Koch sitting in a room, watching the movie and saying whatever comes to mind. It's hillarious. If you're a fan of "Mystery Science Theater 3000", you'll enjoy listening to this.

Description
Includes Original Music...Return to Hooterville and ..."Come ride the little train that is rolling down the track to the junction!" The long-running television classic Petticoat Junction (CBS-TV, 1963-1970) was one of the most successful and beloved situation comedies of the 1960s. Created by Paul Henning, the same mastermind behind The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction ranked as the fourth-highest rated series during its debut season. Set in the folksy farming community of Hooterville, Petticoat Junction centers on Kate Bradley, a widow who runs the charming Shady Rest Hotel with the help of her three beautiful young daughters - Billie Joe, Bobbie Joe and Betty Joe - along with the girls' Uncle Joe. Sam Drucker runs the local general store. Railroad engineers Charlie Pratt and Floyd Smoot operate the Cannonball, a steam engine train that runs through the valley and brings a host of interesting visitors and humorous mishaps to the Shady Rest. This Deluxe Collector's Set features 20 restored episodes complete with the original theme song from the show's first year. It also contains all-new, trivia-packed introductions by actress Linda Kaye Henning (Betty Joe Bradley). Additional bonus features include a special documentary, "The History of Paul Henning and Hooterville," with rare footage, photographs and cast interviews from Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres and more.=20 Vintage network promos and cast commercials round out the set, making it a must-have for any fan of classic TV. So..."Forget about your cares, it is time to relax at the junction."
Customer Reviews:
Love this show!!!!.......2007-06-09
I enjoyed watching these episodes so much I'll be glad when they release all of them. It was great to see some of the cast and what they are doing today. If you like sixties television then this collections is for you...
Good Fun.......2007-05-25
This dvd is good fun for the whole family. Brought back good memories.
Wonderful TV.......2007-01-20
To hear the theme song and to see the familiar characters again is a thrill, hearing the theme song brings tears to my eyes each time and the episodes are enduring for their charm. I remember them from my childhood and I grew up in an area wiyh people remarkably similar to those in Hooterville and also enjoyed the Hooterville documentary and the other added interviews. I can watch them over and over again,
I hope they bring the rest of the seasons episodes out on dvd SOON!!!
When will season 2 of DVDs debut?.......2006-10-29
When my daughter, now 17, was growing up, she loved watching the adventures of the Bradey girls, Uncle Joe's shenaningans and the gentle humor and wonderful characters of everyone associated with the Shady Rest. My wife and I loved the show, too, when we were growing up in the 1960s. This DVD was wonderful -- and for all the complaints about the Christmas episode missing -- well, someone's just trying to make an extra buck. (Order the inexpensive Petticoat Junction/Beverly Hillbillies Christmas DVD, and you'll be just fine.)
MY QUESTION: When is the second season of Petticoat coming out on DVD? I'd love to be able to watch the ENTIRE series, through the years. Can we get a campaign going? Linda Kaye Henning, can you help???? Surely we're not the only people who want more than just the initial season!
Great series, not so great talk before each episode.......2006-09-09
I'm only giving this four stars because of the commentary made before each episode. Putting that on a bonus track or something so it can be shut off would be helpful to those of us who just want to see the show. The talk got annoying as I just wanted to watch and enjoy the show. I also didn't know that there had been other Billie Jo's and Bobbie Jo's so this was a surpise but I look forward to other seasons so that I can see the actresses I grew up watching. This is a wonderful series and I look forward to more seasons in the future!

A real good comedy all the way. Many ups and downs and surprise ending.
